oh dear, do i want to talk about cockles, i don't know...

OKAY.

a while back i answered a "top 3 no hetero explanation" moments ask, so let's count those as the first three to save me from repeating myself. i'll pull the rest from the masterlist, in no particular order.

4: jensen saying he and danneel both refer to misha as their boyfriend. it would take quite an effort to hetero that statement. bonus: my whole jenmisheel tag.

5: misha, possibly unaware he's on camera, casually calls jensen "sweetheart".

6: i don't have documentation of every time, but it's very common for jensen and misha to be significantly late to their panels/ops/autos, to change clothes in the middle of the day at cons, or be seen with... stains. 🤷‍♀️

misha tells fans it’s jensen’s fault he was late for photo ops

7: the ten year anniversary post, wherein they went back to the same restaurant they first went to dinner and sat at the same table. i mean, i've been with my qpp for 18 years and it would not even occur to us to do this lmao.

8: misha's "blanky" that he "kept in jensen's spare room", which led to fandom sleuths admitting it had long been covertly known that jensen and misha lived together in vancouver while filming spn from 2017-2020. @theyarebothgunshot did a brilliant post of a timeline of events surrounding their cohabitation.

9: misha wore a ring that jensen gave him during the time they lived together.

10: the casual but incredibly revealing intimacy with which they pose together, both publicly and privately. like, not to go on about body language, but i just can't buy this kind of closeness without something going on. there's a whole section of the masterlist devoted to moments of intimacy like these.

I THINK WE DO!!!!! here is MY JAMIE DRYSDALE/BRYCE HARPER CRINGE FLING PITCH. necessary background info for the non-hockeys:

jamie drysdale: canadian. often injured. scared of his own shadow. despite this, he is a defenseman. parents gave him a wine cabinet for christmas and he loved it. former bearer of the curse of playing professional sports in anaheim, california. one of those first round pandemic draft picks, so he's taking his sweet ass time to cook (i am not sure if this has also been the case for baseball, but every 2019-2021 draft pick in the nhl has had an uphill battle to play to the level they were projected at because the pandemic torqued their development both pre and post draft. jamie's definitely on his way, but imho he's still cooking.) most importantly: he's short but thick as fuck. boys meet him and they go CRAZYYYY

bryce harper: bryce harper.

now EYE think that jamie is the perfect candidate for bryce harper's cringe hockey fling, because he's a) SUPER young (a fresh 21 years old last april) and b) so fully canadian that he would not be starstruck by bryce harper. he would be full of anxiety because bryce is TALL and HOT (sorry i've been carrying that truth for a while) and PAYING ATTENTION TO HIM but he would not be like omg it's bryce harper. so i think bryce would love the level of anonymity this gives him. like yeah here's this nervous young bulldog who is going to give bryce the sloppiest, hottest blowie of his life BUT he isn't going to know who bryce is and if bryce introduces himself by saying "hi i'm bryce harper", jamie is going to apologize ten times for not knowing who bryce is and look like he's going to have a nervous breakdown until he can leave. ALSO because he is short but thick, he has the necessary center of gravity to throw bryce around once he stops apologizing for existing. bryce is going to love his 21yo horndog hockey frat boy energy combined with his severely under-treated anxiety disorder, and he is going to have the cringiest fling of his life. he is going to text trea pictures of him and jamie being soppy at an eagles game to show trea that he's SOOOOOO well-adjusted but accidentally include one of jamie on his knees. trea will block his number and finally know peace.

ALSO. for scene-setting purposes. potential future captain of the philadephia flyers joel farabee is a mainstay at phillies games in the summer and many people (two of my friends) are suggesting he might take jamie in and have jamie live in his basement (which is possibly where other rookies have but i am not a flyers scholar so i am not up on the lore.) anyway joelbee could very easily bring jamie along to a summer phillies game...haha and then what... (me imagining bryce freaking harper having to sneak into SOMEONE'S BASEMENT to hook up with his 21 year old boytoy.)

It’s been a while since the last one but finally I’m here for the last fic rec of the year :) 

I’m offering you ten of the best f1 fics I’ve read during the second half of the year (which I think you def cannot miss!!! )

so here we go...

- Sebastian and the Angel by Anonymous (Explicit)

This is a fic with an outstanding plot, an explicit and very detailed narrative that makes you feel like you’re whitnessing the story and all very ingenious characters. The emotional inteligence of the author is definitely something else.

- Every time I think the feelings fading I miss you (I miss you) by TheWiseOne12 (PG)

or a very sweet story about love, heartbreaking and refinding love even when everything is against you. It had me intrigued during all nineteen chapters and the strong point is definitely the hurt/comfort it offers, with a lot of angst but fluff on the same mesure.

I have a soft spot on Carlos/Lando/Charles fic but this one is unexpectedly Carlos centered! I’ve never read one like this and the author definitely nailed it, the building is great (better than my own ficI’ll admit) and the ending is as sweet and you can expect it to be.

I’m obssessed with this fic!!! It’s basically Sebchal falling in love in the 20th century and again, the building and the sexual tension is otherworldly. One of my favorites of the 2022.

Or piarles confessing each other and it’s so godamn goals! they talk their past, their present and their future and the fic has an even bigger meaning if you read the fic before in the saga (a saga I highly recomend as well, but this work is my favorite of them) so go check it out.

Or one of the hottest fics I got to read this year, and a very captivating sexting moment I have in my mind even after days of having read it. Definitely a sebchal ft Lewis jewel.

One of the most well thought plots I got to read, where Pierre is a scientist and Charles is a lifeguard and the sea is.... well, the sea conects them and It’s all I can say without spoiling because I really want people to read this. It’s wonderful.

- First Love/Late Spring by blackest_eyes (Explicit)

Or my favorite Piarles fic of the 2022. It’s sweet, sexy, sad, and all the good S in there ;) (sorry for the bad pun). I love the nostalgia and how you can reflect on the characters’ feelings, fears and decisions. An emotional story with a hopeful ending that will leave you smiling for days.

- we do not perish. by Laeana (T)

Or the fic where Pierre and Charles live and die again and again untill they get their happy ending. There’s a lot to outstand in this fic; the originality of the idea, the narration, how it comes and goes in time, how sentimental it gets... It’s beautiful not just the plot but the whole aesthetic you get from it.

Or Lando and Charles get drunk and married in Vegas. Charles panics about it but everyone reassures him so he doesn’t fuck it up. Everyone in this fic has a role, and no detail is left hanging. I love that it shows the path of someone realizing that even when things look bad, there’s always something good in it and you have to make the most of it. My favorite Charlando fic so far.

something i'm curious about, apart from hrpf have you ever read any published hockey romance books? i was looking through some lists on goodreads and there's more than i expected both mlm and hetero (didn't seem to find any wlw hockey romances)

i have read exactly one published hockey romance (mlm) and i absolutely hated it. one of the least enjoyable reading experiences i have ever had. it has over 4 stars on goodreads and that haunts me every day because i hated it so much.

now i know that one book is not a good sample size for the overall subgenre, but it has made me wary of diving in further 😂 i have some recs i might try eventually for mlm hockey romances both from hrpf friends whom i trust to have higher standards for hockey content, and from a coworker who loves romance novels and found out that i love hockey and was like, oh there's this gay hockey romance novel series that i love— (me smiling and nodding along like i don't log onto al gore's internet every day to read about real hockey players fucking raw)

the thing is, i'm not an avid romance reader. i like romance but i don't love romance, you know? i love a love story, but there are things that are inherent to or popular in the romance novel genre that i generally find tolerable at best. and i'm so aware this is a me problem and not a genre problem, but it does mean that i'm not quite the target audience for hockey romance novels anyway.

HOWEVER. my big hangups when it comes to published hockey romances (and sports romances in general) are

and b) if it's really obvious that the characters are just hrpf characters with their names changed, i cannot read it. i would rather just read the fic. writing fanfic and writing original fiction are two separate skills — that, yes, overlap in may places, but making the switch is way harder to do well than people anticipate, i think. if you just file the serial numbers off a hrpf fic, it is going to be so obvious and distracting to me and probably fall flat in the characterization department.

a) lack of knowledge and accuracy about the sport itself. obviously we all make stuff up and bend reality a bit for our horny fanfictions, but i have more patience for that stuff when you're posting stories for free on the internet, and also to be honest i've read so many inpeccably researched fics, published authors have no excuse. i feel like a lot of romance readers pick up a hockey romance for the romance and don't really care about the setting so much, but if i'm picking up a hockey romance it's because i'm a casual romance enjoyer who loves hockey, so if they hockey aspects of the book aren't strong or are blatantly wrong it's gonna get on my nerves so much. i don't need 100% accuracy, but i do need it to feel like the author understands the game and has a basic understanding of how hockey teams and leagues work

all of that being said, i would happily accept recommendations, for straight or gay hockey romance novels! i hope there are some really good ones out there!

F1 Fic Recs '22 pt.II

Hi everyone!

Five months have past since my last fic rec drop and it was damn time I made another one 'cause some great stuff has been posted so here you have the 10 best fics I've read in a while!

(Most of them are M or R rated so watch out for that :)

-A Thousand Shades of You by Tianvette (SEWIS AU)

I'm totally obsessed with soulmates AU and this one in particular is beautifully built up, because Lewis and Seb meet in the middle of the mountains and even though you think everything will be predictable... It's not! The story keeps you intrigued till the very last word and it's totally fluffy and sexy and worth of everybody's time.

-Enter at your own risk by formulacherry (or the f1 drivers' sex party)

okay idk how to start describing this fic... I was surprised I haven't recommended it before since it's one of the most well writen orgies in the f1 fandom. It's writen from different perspectives so that you don't miss a single second of what's going on around the place, and the thing I like the most about this one is that it's not just sex between drivers. Some of them have feelings for each other, some of them are just friends, some of them are fuckbuddies and some of them just decided to f* and that's it! My huge respects and admiration to this writer :')

-Learning a new language (Series) by kiwialicat (Piarles+ Arthur)

Okay I must advert you that this is not for everyone's piece of cake, it includes some very explicit sex between brothers. But if you don't mind ... This is a jewel you must read. The story is well developed, the smut is both romantic, shameless and not excessive and whats most important, it feels natural. It's something that (for being what it is, the developing of a three way relationship) doesn't weird you out, not even for a moment.

Or my favourite Piarles fic so far this year. It's sensual, but overall it's sooo sweet. Pure fluff and comfort between two people who even when they're just friends they love each other so bad you can feel it as you read the story. If you want butterflies in your stomach go the hell off to read this.

-Does dirty talk work? by Tetralea (Lestappen)

Or how Max tricks Charles into speaking filthy for him but ends up well... even filthier. As someone who adores to read Charles topping during sex this was delightful to read, it was also funny and the dynamic between them is just perfect.

-All You Gotta Do Is Trust Me by wafflesandpancakes (Michael/Daniel)

Or the fic that made me fall in love with this pairing! It has all the ingredients honestly... shyness, pride, virginal thoughts, dirty thoughts, Daniel being a sweetheart and Michael being the boyfriend we all wish we had. Simply lovely.

-McLaren Sandwich Shorts by BearWithAHat

Or a compilation of Carlos, Lando and Charles being the sweetest and most perfect Ot3. It's fluffy, but also tries out every outcome and posibility for the not-at-all easy life of three drivers from different teams dating each other. An underrated pairing and an underrated work.

-Em's Omegaverse adventures (Series) by CustardCreamies (Lanseb)

Or Lando and Seb being pack mates and the most adorable squishy pairing in the omegaverse my friend Em created. This is pure sweetness, and the perfect series of drabbles to read when you're feeling down.

-Welcome in the family!  by 12romy (Kimi/Antonio/Minttu)

ahhjhfjfg this is basically Antonio living the nanny's dream when he gets the job of daycare in the Raikkonen's house and both parents of the kids fall for him and try to get to him in the corniest ways possible. If you don't like the pairing then you can still read it for the vibes because the dynamic in the house and the interactions have no waste.

I'm kinda glad they broke my heart ('cause now it's yours) by TheWiseOne12 (Sewis/Charlando)

Or a Cottage fic AU where a pregnant Lando runs from his past to a small town far away and ends up renting in the sewis property. Soon, he meets Charles who used to rent there as well and even though Lando holds a lot of secrets Charles Seb and Lewis slowly make their way to Lando's heart and it's so beautiful it makes you cry ugh. Go read it. Now. And the other stuff this writer has posted because it's as wonderful as this.
