I think part of the reason People think rian Johnsons star wars sucked while loving his other work is the fact that he greatly relies on subverting expectations, which in standalone movies can be really great but when you do it in a franchise that has been greatly loved for decades you end up with half the fandom hating it. One can also make the argument that the last jedi ruined the sequel trilogy, tfa even if it wasnt a great movie was a good start. tlj threw it of its hinges and made a divide in the fandom of those Who loved it and those Who hate. They could have salvaged some of it by sticking to one of the sides but instead they wanted to please both sides forever ruining it and riqn Johnsons was the catalyst for that.
you're very right actually. what he did to KO/GO or even Jumper was surprising his audience. and it def works for original movies because he had total control from A to Z.
however, by killing snoke in TLJ, he completely ruined the rest of the trilogy because i think he forgot that those movies were supposed to be a trilogy. literally i still cannot believe he killed the big ass villain in the middle of his movie wtf was he thinking? i know people despise TROS (and i agree, some parts are just WTF) but i can never blame JJ for it because this movie was the direct consequence of RJ's TLJ. like most of the stuff in this movie is happening because snoke died. because RJ's mistreated Finn so badly and became thee comic relief that the audience wanted to make fun of etc. THE luke skywalker dying in TLJ was a crime jfc i can go on and on and on about how i do not like this movie 😩
TFA is honestly one of my faves lmao don't judge me. i think it was a typical star wars movie and they introduced characters which could have been great. i miss this feeling where we thought everything was going to be fine and we only had TFA and Rogue One

Hey, just wondering: could you give us a brief overview of your opinions of the Star Wars films? All trilogies, Rogue One and Solo included if you got to see them. :)
In the spirit of honesty I’ll say that I haven’t seen any of the older films in several years so it’s possible my reading of them would be harsher if I’d seen them as recently as the sequels.
original trilogy: good, solid space fairy tale. Not the best thing ever but it wasn’t trying to be and didn’t have to be. It was good for what it wanted to be.
prequels: not as bad as everyone says. Yeah, they’re kinda slow but they’re not trying to be the OT, they have a different kind of story to tell and that’s okay.
tfa: I want to say this one is a good movie on its own but it really can’t be taken on its own. It leaves so much open and establishes so little that it required a strong follow-up to work. It does, however, pull off the whole “keep the audience excited for two hours so they don’t notice the issues” thing, so it’s entertaining at least.
tlj: honestly one of the worst films I’ve ever seen. It doesn’t know what it’s about, it doesn’t know what it’s doing, it doesn’t know how to construct a narrative or a scene or even a shot (I’m looking at you, kiss scene) and on top of that it is wildly disrespectful of everything that preceded it.
ros: there was no way on God’s green earth I was ever gonna watch this film after how bad the last one was
rogue one: it’s pretty? It has some good stuff. You could gut it and make a good movie out of pieces of it. There’s just too many characters, too many “go here to do/get a thing” plots, and I honestly cannot tell you what Jyn’s arc is or why she changes.

SPOILERS AHOY (ISH)
It’s been like four years since I did a post like this, so here’s me dumping my thoughts on various, random things I’ve been into/thinking about lately.
I’ll be covering Miraculous Ladybug S3, Fire Emblem Three Houses, My Hero Academia, The MCU, Chocolate/Zen: Warrior Within, Pokemon SwSh, Victorious, BtVS/Angel, and Star Wars: RoS so just a warning for potential spoilers. Also, there will be salt and gushing, so proceed with caution.
Victorious
Tumblr media
--> Ok, so this show came out when I was already in high school, so I think some of my opinions and takes on the show are going to contrast with the general consensus.
--> But I’m firmly in the pro-Tori Vega camp. Do I agree with her kissing Beck in the pilot? No. But considering that Jade humiliated her in front of her class for a small misunderstanding that could have been easily cleared up if Jade took five seconds to hear Tori out, I find it difficult to feel bad for Jade. Plus, Tori gets called out for this a couple of times in later episodes anyway.
--> As for Cat’s BF, yeah, that was shitty too but A. He was originally Tori’s BF and they only broke up a year prior to the episode and B. Not only does Tori feel immediate remorse for what she does (spraying Cat with cheese and then kissing her bf in front of her), but she apologizes and never does anything like it again for the rest of the show. BTW, these are both season one incidents, so clearly Tori grows out of this.
--> Plus, I can relate to some of Tori’s awkward traits, like being kind of annoying, not having the best verbal comebacks and feeling pretty average.
--> On the other hand, I can’t stand Jade. Her attitude reminds me of a girl I used to be on and off friends with in middle school. She ended up embarrassing me in front of the cast of our fall play in eighth grade and never apologized for it. Plus she would say or do things that, in hindsight, made it clear she didn’t want me around.
--> But I mean, at least that girl didn’t steal a pint of my blood meant to be used in a mutual friend’s operation, so...
--> Although clearly, Rex the Puppet is the worst character on this show. Jade at least does stuff, why do we need to have Rex around...?
--> My ships are Tandre (Tori/Andre) and Catrina (Cat/Trina)! Tori and Andre always look like they have fun performing together or just hanging out, and their friendship is just so precious. I wish Cat and Trina had more scenes together, because I loved their road trip in “Tori the Zombie” and they’re both dysfunctional in their own ways, but trying their best!!
BtVS/Angel
Tumblr media
--> Nothing new really. But my Tandre feels reminded me how much I also loved Gunn/Fred and wished that they stayed together. Even their ship name, Funn, is precious and gahhhhhhh breaking them up was a mistake!
My Hero Academia
Tumblr media
--> It took me like 3-4 years after watching the first episode, but I finally watched it.
--> I’m surprised by how much I really like Izuku. Like, I normally like the protagonist fine, but Izuku just really stood out to me. He’s socially awkward, but in a pretty understandable way, intelligent and passionate without using any of it to put other people down, and ofc he cares about his friends and saving other people because what shonen protagonist doesn’t? The only thing I don’t like about him is his hero worship of Bakugo, but that’s just my bias.
--> Oh, yeah, I don’t like Bakugo.
--> Relating to Aizawa the most, and realizing that it’s because I’m getting older hukjdshfaskdnfj
--> I don’t have a ship I’m the most invested in, but I like Izuku with both Todoroki and Uraraka, and I also like Uraraka with Tsuyu. Erasermic is also really good.
--> Not a fan of Eraserjoke. I don’t like the way she continues to ask Aizawa out and then plays it off as a joke when he rejects her like. Like, it’s such a high school thing to do, it’s so weird seeing two grown adults do it. Just take the L and move on, Ms. Joke. Not only is it creepy to continue asking someone out when they say no, it’s annoying to pretend that you didn’t really mean it because it makes it difficult to read you in future scenarios.
Fire Emblem Three Houses
Tumblr media
--> Love it love it love it.
--> Like Fire Emblem has always been more of my brother’s thing, but with Awakening, Fates and Three Houses introducing easier difficulty options, I’ve found it much easier to get into the series. Like, I’m a pretty casual gamer so I’m not looking for anything too challenging most of the time.
--> Ofc I knew going in I was picking Golden Deer, and I was not disappointed. I love everyone every single student in there. The atmosphere was so chaotic, that I just knew recruiting everyone that I could to make it more so just had to be done.
--> Claude and Hilda are the best lord and “retainer” respectively, don’t @ me.
MCU
Tumblr media
--> Uh, I haven’t really kept up with MCU stuff since Endgame (which I didn’t care for tbh). I just wanted to remind everyone that I hate Tony Stark :)
Miraculous Ladybug S3
Tumblr media
(me @ this entire season tbh)
--> I don’t really post much about ML on this blog anymore because I ended up making a side blog (for salt mostly tbh). But in case anyone doesn’t keep up with what happens over there, I basically hated this entire season lol.
--> Ok, I loved Silencer. Best episode in the season period, no questions asked. I also really liked Kwamibuster and Startrain. Desperada grew on me over time, while Bakerix was... okay, I guess. And Felix was entertaining, even if I felt that the message that they were trying to get across was forced and meant to shut the fandom up. Oblivio was good until that ending, and once Silencer came along, I quickly learned I had no use for it anyway. It being an amnesia episode did it no favors, either.
--> Just as I feared, the season revolved more around humiliating or putting Marinette in really embarrassing situations for the same of “drama”. The Puppeteer 2 is a really good example of this. And it’s upsetting, because none of this actually does anything for Marinette’s character. She’s not even allowed to breakdown or be upset about anything that goes wrong for her until the end of “Heart Hunter” and even that only lasts, like, ten seconds.
--> Also, I don’t ship the Love Square anymore. Lukanette all the way, baby.
--> Let’s be real, Marinette/Happiness should be the real OTP of the show.
--> The fact that every episode of season 4 is supposed to be as dramatic as Chat Blanc does not leave me hopeful for the future. Like, really, you’re going to use an episode in which an entire timeline’s worth of events gets erased and leaves everyone with no memories of it as the basis of your emotional impact going forward? Um, thank you, next.
Rise of Skywalker
Tumblr media
--> Haven’t seen it and after seeing the spoilers, I don’t plan to. I really liked TFA, and was excited to see what they did with the Rey-Poe-Finn dynamic. I was not here for Kylo Ren or Reylo. I guess Finn/Rey is joining Tandre and Funn in my “missed opportunity OTPs” corner. D:
Chocolate/Zen: Warrior Within
Tumblr media
--> OMG one of my fave movies of all time. Like I appreciate it more and more with age. It’s basically everything I want in a movie.
--> The scene where Zen discovers that her mom’s hair is falling out and she blames herself for it always gets me. Like I always forget about it, so when I see it again, I can’t help but nearly breakdown myself, because I know exactly what Zen’s thought process is without her even having to say anything. I feel just as overwhelmed as she does in the moment and nearly cry every time watching it.
--> One of the few movies that I wish actually got a sequel. Like I have so many questions that could be answered. How do Zen and Moom adjust to living in Japan? How does Zen’s father try to relate to her and Moom? Do they make any other friends? Will Zen get access to resources that will help her? Will they be further ostracized because of their status as outsiders? As someone who already struggles verbally, how will Zen adapt to living in a country that primarily speaks another language?
Pokemon SwSh
Tumblr media
--> Multiplayer is so much fun and wayyyy more accessible than in the past imo. A bunch of people at my martial arts school would do raid battles before classes, so I would always leave to get there early and play with them. 10/10 experience, and it makes me excited to get Animal Crosssing to do the same thing.
--> But on the other hand, I feel like this game has a lot less going for it than SuMo. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but it feels like too much is missing. Like I still enjoy it, but it’s more for the gameplay and less for the story. I’m also not nearly as invested in my team like I was last time (I loved my Sun team so much, I basically kept it the same for US, minus one or two changes). I’m trying to change it fits a “Psychedelic Ocean” vibe (Water/Psychic), and then do an “Earth” themed team for my Shield run but I just haven’t picked it back up since beating the game.
--> The characters were alright. I wasn’t as attached to any of the rivals like I was in SuMo. Leon is my bro though.

Sequel hate from a sequel kid
Ok so like I was in 5th Grade when the Force Awakens was announced and I couldn't have been more excited. I literally cried. I was in that perfect age for Star Wars products, content etc. and I bought into it with full force. I was literally the most perfect example of a target audience for the series. Flash Forward to December of 2015 and I was already mad about the fact that the movie wasn't coming out in May (like every other previous live action movie.) so I was a bit turned off to the Force Awakens anyway. Still, I was super excited to see what my favorite series was going to do next with it's story. Were the characters of Rey and Kylo Ren going to be revealed to be the new cannon's version of the Solo twins? What is the First Order? Is the Resistance the same as the New Republic?- all these questions and more were running through my mind before we left my house to go to the theater on the opening night. (Fun Fact: my birthday was in June, but we did my birthday party literally 6 months later to correlate with the new movie.)
All things to say, even in 7th grade, I knew I didn't like this movie. I literally cried on the way home from the movies because I was the only one of my friends who hated it. I thought I was weird because of how angry I was and how the movie didn't correlate with the standards I had set for the series. That night, I went home and watched Clone Wars because even if I didn't like the "strong female protagonist" that Rey was, at least there was a well written and relatable one in Ahsoka waiting for me. (As a impressionable tween girl in 2015, Rey sevarly let me down... but that is a discussion for another time) In the years since the movie came out, I have only re-watched it like once, and I still can't bring myself to like it. It was just so disappointing for a really excited, Star Wars obsessed, kid.
The next year, Rogue One came out- and I loved it. Sure, the first half of the movie was kinda boring, and the uncanny valley factor of Peter Cushing literally digitally risen from the dead did throw me for a loop, but overall the film was fun and I enjoyed seeing a good Star Wars solo film that tied into the established universe well. Then came The Last Jedi.
I don't actually hate TLJ as much as TFA or Rise of Skywalker, but I still don't like it that much. It has some weird pacing issues and stuff like that, but I found that I still struggled to connect to Rey as a character. I think this has to do with the fact that her story feels like it isn't planned out and she has a lot of contradictions. For Rey, I actually loved the reveal that she was a nobody. It opened up the universe for me and reinforced the idea that anyone can be a Jedi. (I was team Rey Kenobi until this film) My least favorite character in this is Finn. Why does the former child soldier need to learn that war is bad? I think that Poe really should have been the one to learn this lesson. Aside from these character issues, I really only don't like the Holdo Maneuver, and that's because it contradicts the rules of hyperspace that were established in the series. Overall, TLJ is probably the only sequel trilogy movie I can stand to re-watch. (I am going to get so much hate for this!!)
The following May, my favorite Disney Star Wars movie was released- Solo. I'm not going to get into it here, but the quick summary of my opinions on this movie is basically that it ties in well with the other series (Clone Wars, OT, Rebels, etc.) This leaves us with one last movie to talk about- Rise of Skywalker.
At the time of release for Rise of Skywalker, literally all of my faith in the sequel trilogy actually sticking the landing was lost. I hated the Emperor Reveal in the trailer, and generally had no faith that it would be a good movie- and it isn't. Look, all of my problems with ROS have been said before. Blah blah blah. I think that my main problem, however, is that I feel like my time has been wasted by trying to care about these films. I've spent literally most of my time since 7th grade thinking about why I hate these movies and not on how good my favorite content from the series is. I think that what also doesn't help my opinion on ROS is how great both the Mandalorian and Clone Wars are and how they remind me of what good universe building Star Wars content is. I was so excited for the new season of Clone Wars that I couldn't care less about the Rise of Skywalker. One major problem I have with this that I don't think is mentioned enough is that this film feels super separated from the larger Star Wars series. They really could have referenced the prequel era or at least the Clone Wars. When Rey speaks to "all the Jedi" the subtitles (which usually identify characters when they first speak) do not identify any of the Jedi. A one off mention of a battle from the Clone Wars could have been a good way to tie the two trilogies together. Generally, this film was super disappointing and has only been rewatched by my family as fodder for the peanut gallery.
I guess to sum up everything I was really disappointed in this entire trilogy. I was, what I presume to be, a prime example of the target demographic for the newest trilogy, and even I don't like these films. I still appreciate and consider them to be Star Wars, I just don't think they'll ever hold the same place in my heart as the other 6 films and the animated series (I don't even want to talk about resistance because I can't even begin to tell everyone how much I don't like that trash heap.) I'm still super young for a Star Wars fan, and I honestly hope these films grow on me. Anyway, I'm sorry that this is so long, I just really needed a place to vent my general frustrations and I wanted to see if anyone feels the same way as me. If you've made it this far- thanks for reading!

Amanda I wanted to clear upa few things about IX’s shooting and John’s post ect and it’s going to be too damn long for your inbox, so here’s to hoping tumblr’s tagging decides to work.
(Also @vaderey)
Re: the tag FN2187 on John’s photo.
I’m sorry to say that that “only” signifies that it’s about Finn. John is a very inconsistent tagger who rarely tags at all and only at times where he finds whatever tag very central to the post. FN2187 have been his go to tag for Finn since TFA came out, probably because it’s the only truly unique identifier for Finn. If he just tagged #Finn it would drown in the thousands upon thousands of other Finns on Instagram, but there’s only one FN-2187.
So I hate to rain on everyone’s theories about a Stormtrooper uprising - including my own - but all that means is that whatever badassery was going on Finn was central to it, but with no indication of what kind of badassery it was.
Finn’s injuries:
As for the lack of plasma burns indicating anything can I just remind everyone that lightsaber injury to hands tend to result in not plasma burns but lost hands?
I mean look at all the plasma burns that Luke got in his duel with Vader at Cloud City?
Tumblr media
Oh wait, that’s more cuts and bruises because Vader was throwing shit at him. Not to mention all we’ve seen was John’s hands. Nice jumping to conclusions there Anon.
Finally I have a very hard time seeing John being excited for a scene that kills off Finn. Not to mention, they’re nearly done shooting and given JJ’s preference for shooting as chronologically as possible this is likely something at the end of the movie. That John is still this excited about it all makes it look like IX might treat Finn well. Obviously nothing is certain and JJ may still end up butchering Finn’s storyline as much as Rian did, but that John even dares to display this level of confidence this late in the game make it seem to me that we may get an Episode IX that’s worth watching.
Re: Yavin IV.
Here people are really beginning to pass of complete speculations as facts :/
Yes IX is currently shooting at Cardington Air Sheds which was used as the sound stage for the Rebel base in both ANH and RO because it’s the biggest damned sounds stage in the UK and they needed the cavernous feel of the big interior of the Massassi temple. All them being at Cardington means it that they need a huge freaking sound stage, which given that all we’ve heard is that the sake on IX is massive doesn’t sound unlikely for say a really big battle.
Also the shooting at Cardington is done by Vic which means it’s scenery shoots or big battle panoramas, which again fits with the only named actor being spotted at Cardington being Joonas, the Finnish guy who’s inside Chewie.
And everything we’ve heard from Kevin Smith’s visit to the IX set as well as a goodly assortment of rumors says that IX is huge even for Star Wars, that we’re looking at something at a heretofore unprecedented scale. So big panorama shots and overviews of a gigantic ground battle does not sound implausible. It may or may not involve Yavin but we don’t know either way, personally I think it doesn’t and it’s all about size :P (for once).
Re: Rose and Loan.
This one is purely on that Anon leaping to the assumption that she’s not important, especially as John said “the entire crew” and they automatically assumed that wouldn’t include her. I know there’s not been much reports on her, but lets be real it’s because both fandom and media couldn’t care less about her or any of the characters of color. Come on, the only reason we occasionally hear anything about John is that he’s the only one still on social media apart from Mark (who for the record appears to have a minuscule role in IX) because media and fandom could on the whole not give fewer shits about anyone who isn’t Rey or Kylo.
That said I finally managed to dig out a good source of info on Loan and her movements on twitter (for those interested it’s named @dailytranloan). Between that and my own Googlemancy this is what it looks like:
Loan was spotted on multiple occasions in London in August and September, i.e. while IX was shooting at Pinewood. She drops out of sight about the time where the shooting moved to Wadi Rum but we have no clue if she went with them or not. She was only spotted in London once after the return of the shooting to England and New Year, but have been confirmed seen (photo evidence) three times between New Year and today.
So it looks like Rose may have a much bigger role in IX than anyone suspected and that she’s making it all the way to the end and beyond it.
I think that covers most of the things your anons have been throwing at you.
tl;dr John have been excited about IX since they started shooting, in fact before they started and his excitement and enthusiasm have only gone one way, up. If people are disinclined to trust him I’m not going to argue with them further but I’m beginning to believe that all those doomsday anons are not all in good faith and that a certain group of someones have begun trolling because it’s becoming increasingly clear that Finn is going to be the male lead in IX and be treated as such by the story. Which spells nothing but doom and judgement for a certain other character and we know how much they all only tolerate Finn when he’s safely ensconced as a side character.
I understand being worried about IX, damn bitch me too, but this constant cry of doom when we get something positive rings false to me.
Personally I’m going to take John’s word on it unless we get solid indications otherwise.

Ok I said I wouldn’t ask but your TFA answer was so awesome I’m curious - things you liked/disliked about TLJ?
Oh boy, oh boy
Liked:
_ Uuuh. Kylo becoming Supreme Leader and cementing himself as the true villain I guess since it’s interesting to work on it’s gonna the political & military landscape of the FO??
_ Kylo being shown off again as a good tactician when fucking up the Raddus.
_I’m glad Phasma’s gone.
-Finn & Rey hugging at the end of the movie that’s it.
That’s it.
Dislikes:
_ The worldbuilding has been fucked up just to respond to Rian’s whims when he have barely any explications about the context.
_ Fucking bad designs everywhere.
_Boring cinematography except a few times.
_ The fucking zooms-in and Kylo looking like he’s stuck in a washing machines when he barrels rolls around the TIE Silencer.
_ The FO is suddendly overpowered with money and personnal. The loss of SKB has like no impact on the organization. This episode should have explored to their backstory but Rian simply didn’t care.
_ Everybody in this movie shut off their brains.
_ Hux went from “officer didn’t had not much battle experience” to a total joke. His traumas due to his upbringing are ignored and his sufferings are reduced into supposed moments of comedy .And it’s not like Rian didn’t knows his past, he even gave him a first name. Hell he didn’ even bother explain Hux’s past to Domhnall and he discovered that his character had a first name when an interviewer asked him about it (Domnhall seemed pretty angry about it since he invest himself a lot in reserches and stuff for the characters he plays.) Knowing how Domhnall had to improvise the blaster scene, i’m sure he would have objected even more of Rian’s decisions.  His purpose half of the movie is to do Huxposition on the bridge, being totally incompetent and thrown around. It’s gonna be hard for JJ to repair this and have the audience take him seriously as a villain.
_ Poe, well, I never cared much about his character. I even tried to read the comics but I felt barely nothing about him. But I was hoping TLJ would help but instead they managed to makes me hate his character. The Poe/Holdo arc was badly written. There was many ways to make an arc like that make sense but also more emotionnal for these two characters. I hate how one second they makes him this macho man who keeps understimating lady officers but a second after, the female characters are “haha, I like him ;)”   Yeah sure.
_Finn’s arc who is reduced as total coward and a joke and where war has to be explained to him (a fucking child-soldier) by a woman that constantly think about hurting him when he mentions Rey, the person he is close to the most and then is forced as a potential love-interest to him for some reasons. The DJ explanations are just bad (of course, the Resistance has to buy weapons. We knows that Rian, thx) The suicide run was also pretty stupid. Also the fact that him and Rey didn’t reuniting on the Supremacy screams so much Rian wanting them to interact as less as possible in the movie. Finn deserves better.
_ Rey’s arc. Can we even talk about an arc? Her character regressed. As if she didn’t dealt with years of abuse and survival on Jakku and as if Kylo never tortured her and hurt her closed ones. Hell she even get tortured twice in the space of two days because of Kylo. The Force-skype stuff feels so forced. Adam & Daisy only have good chemistry when their characters are set against each other. Rey talks about how she is scared of the Force within her but we see her then has no problem to deal with it and master everything in one second (rendering the existence of jedi school pretty useless like you just have to download the Force-powers of a master jedi and that’s it. The Force.exe is installed. ) The small training scene where she cut the rock looks pretty stupid, her sword fighting position is pretty bad during it. Going to the dark side has no consequences on her. She has no agency. Replace the word “Force” by the plot and you’ll see what I mean.
_ Luke. Has someone who has to deal with depression, I think showing Luke as irritated and stuff can makes sense. I kinda relate since my temper changed a lot. I had a lot of patience & kindness but now, everything irritate me (from a member of my family intruding in my space to hearing the ringing of the phone) I’m scared to see my friends, I feel like a walking failure that I will never be satisfied about myself or will satisfy my parents, I just want to be left alone & if this lead me to die that way, then so be it. The problem is how wonky the writing leading-up to this Luke is bad. Everything is about to make us feels sad for Kylo (I don’t). Kylo’s turning against his family upon learning that he is the grandson of one of the most dangerous war criminal would makes senses. Luke blaming himself because he felt he failed to help his nephew after years of work instead of randomly popping his lightsaber would have made more sense. Luke’s grieving all his others students would make more sense. Luke attempting to reason Kylo after the massacre but still failing would make sense. Luke looking for a solution on the island and then failing to find one, thus made him feel unable to see his sister face to face would makes more sense. There’s is barely any emotionnal moments for Luke and the Final holographic showdown feels like they absolutely wanted to avoid Kylo to kill Luke directly (like c’mon, he’s been committing war crimes since the first minutes of TFA)
_ Kylo. TLJ is a bad attempt at Kylo’s pity fest. It’s interesting that his traumas are acknowledged while the other character’s are pretty ignored despite having a tragic’s past that should impact them as well. Everything is about him. Most of his actions are pretty villainous, he’s no grey character like people are trying to force us to believe because he looks sad. This is an humanized villain arc (which he didn’t need after seeing TFA), not a redemption one. At least he is now the main villain too, so there’s tha (But the “Uwu save ben solo” stuff going around spoil my liking of him as a villain. I’m not here to see whether Kylo is gonna turn LS for a third time in ep9. It would be too repetitive at this point) I just hate the “ You are truely Han solo’s son”line because it is obvious he is more like his mother. Only father figures are important to the characters in SW, it seems. Also the goddamn scar being moved on his eyes but it doesn’t impair his vision despite being cut by a freaking lightsaber. Like Rian could have gave us a legit explanation why Kylo was weakened & needed Rey to fight the preoatarians guards: Losing an eye would be an huge handicap tha het is not used to yet so he needed help to take the throne.
_ Leïa is only here to looks sad and for Kylo’s momentarily manpain (and Marry Poppying around space). Like really, you reduce Leïa fucking Organa too that?? The woman ready to move time and space just for the sake of saving freedom? the princess of Alderaan who saw her planet being destroyed but kept up on? the woman who was mainly in charge of the strategizing of Hoth’s evacuation? The woman who was willing to stay on Bespin just for the sake of massacring stormtroopers because Vader gave Han away to Boba Fett & would have stayed if Lando didn’t pulled her off to the Falcon? The woman who had to face the galactic backlash of her being Vader’s daughter but still kept on? A woman full of anger but also sense of duty?
_ Rose, rose, rose… I was excited to meet her so imagine my disappointment upon discovering she was just here to lecture & push around Finn & being forced as another love interest that doesn’t even work. It’s like she forgot that her sister died the same day and that she should still be grieving. We don’t even get to see her use her mechanic’s skills in the whole story. The message about her character makes no sense between her last line in tlj and all the destructions she is willing to provoke (not all the ppl working at Canto bight are rich, has it show in the Canto Bight book) or let happens. KMT doesn’t deserve that.
_ Yoda’s appearing bcos I hate this hypocrite of a gremlin and was expecting for Luke to dunk him in the sea.
_ Chewie, the glorified cab driver.
_ The battles are a huge clusterfuck & the most badly written space battle I have ever seen.
_The way Poe’s piloting skills feels to OP when you compare to other pilots, in particular in recently RO.
_D’qar’s battle is a fucking tactical mess. Everyone has been conviniently dumb down. Same during the slow-mo chase. What’s even the point of bringing the whole fleet of star destroyers if they are just useless.
_ Bad infiltration scene on the Supremacy on the same level as RO’s one. I’m just tired of infiltration scenes in SW. Please stop that shit.
_ The preotarian guard fight is a choregraphic mess that has no stakes for the characters. Everyone is just waiting for their cue and twirling around. It’s like it was shooted in one go. And there is a difference between Luke in ROTJ kicking a blaster out of the hand of a foe looking bad due to technical problems of the time. And a knife suddendly being edited out at the last minute because the mc would have die then
_ Crait. A good example on how not taking in account the worldbuilding that could be used in battle. So you’re gonna tell me that the Resistance decided to hide away in a base with no issue other than big metallic door in the front? Sounds like a good plan.
_ Leïa never taking command of the battle and strategizing and letting Poe deal with all that despite that she is the general that Poe is a demoted member of the Navy who caused a shit-ton of mess among the Resistance like 30 minutes ago
_ Hux is still depicted in a idiotic way & using bad tactics again. If this is supposed to be a movie about the characters learning about their mistakes, well it didn’t do its job.
_ What is even the use of the third cannon of the gorrilla walkers??
_ What was even the point to use these old speeders besides for being destroyed?
_ Rey shooting down 3 TIES in one shot seems to break a lot of SW physics. Her disappearing of the whole fight shows how much Rian didn’t care abt her character beyond having her interact with Kylo.
_ Y’know, I have Battlefront 2 and in the game there is mining tunnels on the battlefield that you can use to hide. In the movie they are not present, the whole Resistance sit dumbly in trench and just wait to be massacred. I was hoping those tunnels would re-appear in the movies & would be used to sink the walkers by bringing them down with bomb used for mining but nope. The image of walkers falling in a sinkhole, provoking a storm of red dust, coloring the outfits, armors and vehicles in red would have been pretty badass to see.
_ The ramming canon trained on like 10 kilometers instead of using the gorrilla walkers designs and adding to them the mini death-stars canons. They can’t use it all the time tho bcos it would need to cool down before shooting again. Aren’t these supposed to be artillery vehicles ffs???
_ The Resistance not even rigging their escape ships with bombs so if the FO penetrated their base, they can at least cripple them by exploding them. So much for a group that is supposed to be specialized in guerrilla warfare.
_ Talking about guerrilla warfare, i was expecting at least a pursuit and firefight in the mines. No use of the worldbuilding during battle scenarios once again.
_ Leïa should have been the one to confront Kylo, not Luke. Showing her willing to fight her own son and dies during it for the freedom of the galaxy would have been a good way to send her off and building her as this strong, resilient, legendary leader willing to fight her own family for the good cause. It would have been a good middle finger to people who slandered her upon learning she was Vader’s daughter.
_ Rey effortlessly levitating these rocks. Showing her struggle would have made the ending scene more rewarding.
_ The news of the Battle of Crait spreading super fast despite that the Resistance official journalist, Suralinda Javos wasn’t even present during it for documenting or something.
_ Broom boy & the way it is implied that he might join the Resistance or something because of his Force-powers. A fucking child.Involved in a war. I thought Finn being a child-soldier was bad thing?
And I’ll stop there for now, because there is so many problems with this movie, i’m never gonna be finished with it.

OKAY THE TRAILER
1) I like the total incoherence
We live in a dark, spoiler-filled time, and ... I just love these enigmatic, borderline-deceptive ones? Who the hell knows what this movie is even about? I DON’T
2) I love the shot of Rey levitating rocks. Both reminiscent of Luke’s own training on Dagobah, but aesthetically very different.
3) REY STILL HAS THE LIGHTSABER :D :D
4) I’m sort of laughing because it was my headcanon in my post-ROTJ fics long ago that Luke-the-Jedi-Master would sound like an unsettling cross between the Joker and, well, Luke. And he does.
5) WHO IS FLYING THE FALCON
6) The whole light / dark / balance section is interesting in terms of its juxtapositions. Kylo’s theme + mask as “the dark” is predictable enough (though it’s certainly intriguing that the mask seems to be shattered? maybe his new scar is edgy enough to dispense with it or maybe it’s actually significant?? we’ll see). But unless I misheard, the little flicker of Rey’s theme plays over the shot of Leia as “the light,” not over Rey herself.
7) I have some very serious reservations about ‘balance.’ Undercutting Anakin’s arc was always one of my main fears with the new stuff, and while so far I’ve been delighted with how they’re handling his legacy and his own character (RO <3), I am very leery of that. And, also, I’m very wary of facile “the Jedi inherently create imbalance!!!” stuff—I’ve read far too many fics and fanboy articles that accept that as given without really considering it, and... eh.
For the same reason, Luke being THE JEDI NEED TO END is pretty “ehhhhh.” But given the strong evidence that “the last Jedi” is plural, this is clearly more complicated than it appears.
And I also reallyyyyy didn’t want the new villain to be a Skywalker and I ended up really loving Kylo/Ben’s character, so. We’ll see.
8) I like Finn’s ... healing tank or whatever. I’m kind of wondering if they’re hiding something about his arc.
(I mean, they’re hiding something about everyone’s. But we have a general idea of what Rey and Poe are up to, say, while the shot of Finn tells us pretty much nothing beyond “probably alive.” I’m sure conspiracy theories around this are already abounding, but I do tend to suspect that the very nuts and bolts of his plot are being hidden for now, for whatever reason.)
9) Poe is looking good, as ever. I hope he gets something more substantial to do this time around.
10) Literally nothing about the Rey Backstory Mystery Box :D
See, I actually am interested in that and am pretty firmly glued to ‘Rey is a Skywalker, some way or another.’ (I think literal Skywalker is somewhat more probable than Organa, but I’m happy either way. DUELING LEGACIES AND INTRAFAMILIAL DRAMA IS MY JAM)
Buuuut I really like that it’s not showing up right away or being overplayed or made too central. In much the same way that I was excited about Vader being in Rogue One and very nervous about Vader being in Rogue One, I guess? I just like that we’re kicking off with a focus on carrying forward from TFA and less on that.
10) BOOM! LASERS! THINGS! RED ... STUFF
The quality material that I’m here for!! I mean, I’m really here for family angst and lingering stares but it makes for a lovely backdrop. MORE LASERS PLS
