mad about a tweet of an article portraying something technically true but basically wrong
#while yes it's conservative under larger society given this thing's circumstances it's actually pretty fucking progressive#also 'church of england so scotland should just leave' DO YOU NOT THINK ANGLICAN CHURCHES DONT EXIST ELSEWHERE#READ THE DAMN ARTICLE#i know it is bad. i am acutely aware of the homophobia in the church for some fucking reason#but like. this is genuinely better than it is elsewhere.#anglican churches being able to bless gay couples is a huge step in the right direction#no! it's not enough! i know that. but guess what? sometimes you have to muscle through it and wait for the homophobes to change their minds#or die out#this conundrum takes a long time. clearly. but this isn't the worst treatment of queer christians in the western world#(by the church at least) and i'm sick of people acting as though it is#do you know the homophobia that exists specifically in the sydney anglican church?#do you know that the nsw and act baptist association is debating over whether churches can be churches if they're 'same-sex affirming'#ie. can churches still be baptist if they're doing LITERALLY WHAT THE UPDATE SAYS THE CHURCH OF ENGLAND IS DOING#and the coe is worse in my state than most other places in the western world so ya i shit on it#but still. read the fucking article and understand that it's a bloody nuanced situation#vent#vent post#tw christianity#tw christianity mention#tw homophobia#in tags#THE ARTICLE IS PROGRESS YEAH PROGRESS IS SLOW BUT I'D MUCH RATHER CELEBRATE IT THAN REPRIMAND IT#OH YEAH AND THE FUCKING BIBLE BELT IN AMERICA#you're going to tell me. that whatever the fuck's going on there is comparable to 'sowwy we still can't marry gay couples but we're trying!#we can bless the union which is an improvement!!!'

Not to ruin your day but thoughts on the 2025 project?
It is, with zero exaggeration or hyperbole, a literally perfect blueprint for fascism. If anyone is somehow still on the fence about voting for Biden, plans not to vote for Biden, or to throw away their vote on some third-party whackjob just to "send a message," I urge you to read these articles and understand the magnitude of what is at stake (courtesy, again, of the fucking Heritage Foundation):
A Rational Analysis of the Heritage Foundation’s 2025 Presidential Transition Project, “Mandate for Leadership: The Conservative Promise”
The Heritage Foundation Plan to Help Trump End Democracy in America
What is Project 2025? Trump Shadow Network Plans to Overhaul 'Deep State'
‘Project 2025’: plan to dismantle US climate policy for next Republican president

guy who has learned about 20th century proxy wars exclusively from the scores of pages of exposition on them in the machine translated novel adaptation of Metal Gear Solid V
and it doesn’t distinguish between real events and fake ones, so best of luck to him

The Lucy Letby case is weird, because in other instances of medical providers committing murder (Barbara Salisbury, Colin Norris, Charles Cullen, Harold Shipman), both the evidence for murder and the likely motive have been much clearer, even accompanied by a confession. AFAICT the evidence against Letby is much more ambiguous, mostly circumstantial, and there's no motive whatsoever--though of course the British press is reporting on the most innocuous of details as though they are ironclad proof.
There are enough cases of people being prosecuted for the murder of children, involving dubious reasoning like "shaken baby syndrome," that have proven to be mostly searches for scapegoats, that it seems pretty dubious to me to send someone to prison for life without the possibility of parole without ironclad evidence for their guilt. And using the fact that someone has not exhibited remorse for the crime they maintain their innocence of, as a basis for handing down that sentence, seems especially perverse, considering, y'know, that would also be the behavior of someone who was not in fact guilty.

the valtteri files, 2009-2012
Tumblr media
hello!
as a magpie of a human, i have decided to sift through every article returned by EBSCO for search query "valtteri bottas." results returned for a range of 2009-present. i have downloaded and organized the files and have decided to share them because what's the point of lore-gathering if you don't share it?
in the nature of an encyclopedia, i suppose, i've grouped the articles by years. the early results aren't many, so they have the greatest range.
2013-2014
2015
some notes:
whether or not there are images depends on if EBSCO returned a full PDF or just an HTML file (there are no images until 2014). if anyone happens to have matching images--perhaps from your own print copies or returns from a different database--i would love to get them!
these are from common english-language magazines. if anyone has articles or clippings from other pubs and would like to contribute to this archive, i would welcome that!
pink background to aid against eye strain, but if anyone finds this inaccessible for any reason please let me know and i will create higher contrast black & white versions as well!
[shut up and take me to the file]

thinking about the animal literature class i took last spring that was pushed as a class all around symbolism but it ended up being an ARA focus and my professor and i were talking about my black beauty paper and she said something like “you dont think of all the ways the author is actually promoting animal harm though… like why doesnt she criticize the use of carriage horses at all? does she think its ethical for animals to work for humans instead of alternative means?”
well besides the obvious bullshit there… THIS BOOK TAKES PLACE IN THE 1800s!!!!!! THERE WERE NO CARS!!!
