Playing guardian signs, a Pokémon rangers game which I have never actually played so I’m having a blind playthrough of sorts.

And I will say I do like it, and the story is interesting and the moment I got super invested, I get greeted with a ‘this side story is a wireless multiplayer mission!’ And it’s like a slap to the face. You can’t even play that anymore unless you have IRL friends with Guardian Signs too and meet fact to face to play it I guess?? It’s just. Abandoned Content locked behind a large golden gate and you don’t have any of the keys to unlock it….

Anyways. Big let down knowing there’s side content that’s like. Unavailable now due to the ds wireless communications being shut down (although I am aware some communities do host servers, but what are the chances of them hosting a server for a lesser known Pokémon spin off title?).

I know that shouldn’t ruin my fun with guardian signs but man it was a real bummer to be greeted with that. The fact that it had to wireless multiplayer is WILD to me but there’s a high chance that was an executive decision as opposed to a game designer decision.

What do you think N would think of the Pokémon Rangers?

I mean they’re people whose goals are the protection of Pokémon, and they don’t use Pokéballs to capture them or force them to do their bidding (or at least that’s how it’s presented to us in the narrative, gameplay wise it’s a bit different)

Ever since their radio tower performance, the Quads have been somewhat reviled in Oblivia, due to them choosing to perform with a Pokémon rather than an actual well known Oblivian musician. Said Pokémon being the partner to a foreign-born national didn't help.

Plus their style of music is an... acquired taste that just didn't go down well.
