As reported by news24 , Tears tensionand despair filled the room when a Durban mother described in horrific detail the discovery of her four children who were allegedly hanged by their father.
Young and with promising futures, her children - ages four, six, 10 and 16 - were murdered one by one, allegedly by their father, after he received final divorce papers.
The father was arrested on Wednesday in Kwadabeka and must still appear in court.
Prior to the death of her children on Tuesday afternoon, the mom said she had sensed something was wrong after the suspect began acting strangely.
"In the morning, my cousin told me that he had started a WhatsApp [conversation] and was very suspicious. When I called him, he said we'll meet at home, but I could hear that [something] was not OK."
The desperate mother travelled with a friend to get the children from school, while another colleague travelled to Pinetown Girls High School to get the teen.
But it was already too late, they were missing.
"When we arrived at the crèche the kids were long gone, and when we arrived at the school no one was there so we went to the police station."
She said she also noticed she was receiving notifications on her email that multiple Taxify trips had been made to fetch the children from school.
'We broke the door and found them hanging'
"We went to the police station but found out it's not their jurisdiction, but they allocated us a van with police officers to go and check. When we arrived, we found that he had changed the locks of the house. The police broke the lock and we found my children hanging from the ceiling."
The emotional mom said their own clothing was used to hang them.
"In one child's room, he hung them on a burglar bar on the window with the belt from their night gown. In my room as well, he hung the other one," she claimed.
She said the suspect had sent their 10-year-old back and forth to the tuckshop to buy snacks, so he would allegedly have time to murder each of the children.
"And then the neighbours told me that he had been sending the 10-year-old back and forth to the tuckshop to buy snacks, but I buy snacks for them for the whole month, so why would he be sending the child back and forth to the shops, so that he could remain alone with the younger ones?"
Tried to save the teen
In describing the search for her eldest, she broke down.
She said upon seeing the suspect at her school, the teen asked one of her friends to tell him she had left school already.
"But he already saw her. She wrote down a cell number for her friends to tell me she left with her dad. When I looked at the transport receipts from Taxify sent to my phone, it shows that he took her from Pinetown Girls to Section 14. When we got there, they weren't there, so I guess they got off and walked."
She said after posting about her missing daughter on social media, one of her friends reached out, saying she had seen her.
"When we posted about it on social media, one of the daughter's friends sent me a voice note telling me she saw her with her father walking on top of a bridge. Her father was carrying her bag as she walked behind him.
"We were searching up and down with the police while leaving the other children still hanging to chase after the one that was still alive."
She said they eventually found the teenager in an area in New Germany that was "just like a forest".
"He also tied her with her night gown. I guess he was already carrying it with him. The daughter is [big] like me so I guess he couldn't hang her up so he strangled her with it while she was on the ground," she claimed.
Shortly after her emotional testimony, the man was found by the police in the Kwadabeka area.
Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said the suspect would face four counts of murder.

mother delivers in taxi
Five months after they provided a kid on a railway line in Shongweni ‚ Netcare 911 paramedics Elmi Changuion and Walter Molife provided a baby on Friday - this time in a minibus taxi on the M13 near the St Johns bridge on-ramp in Pinetown.
“The pregnant 31-year-old lady entered into labor all of a sudden while travelling in the minibus taxi. The chauffeur was informeded of the scenario and he stoppeded to the middle island ‚” said Netcare 911 representative Nick Dollman.
“Roadway Traffic Inspectorate traffic officers who were stationed close by went to examine and were told of the scenario. They knew that the Netcare 911 paramedics were stationed close by so one hurried to their area to call for assistance.”
Changuion ‚ Molife and advanced life assistance paramedic Craig Venter showed up on scene within two minutes.
“There was no time at all to move the mama to the ambulance and the minibus taxi was cleared to produce space and privacy. The Netcare 911 group safely delivered the infant in the taxi before moving mama and her little woman to the ambulance ‚” Dollman said. The taxi’s travelers joked that the child ought to be named “Quantum "after her birth place.” Quantum"and her mother were required to the healthcare facility

Bilingual compilation of South African scripts
Twist Projects
Twist Theatre Development Projects will be launching a new compilation of 11 theatre scripts in English and isiZulu. Twist Theatre Development Projects is a dynamic KZN-based organisation that works on bridging the gap between community theatre and the theatre industry.
The scripts are the result of collaborations between four community-based theatre groups and an assortment of professional theatre writers, directors and mentors. The groups hail from Manguzi in the far north of KZN, Marianhill near Pinetown, and Pietermaritzburg; and have been part of the Twist development programme over the past eighteen months.
Twist Projects – Ubizo
Through a series of different projects, they have worked with experienced South African theatre mentors including 2017 Standard Bank Young Artist of the year Monageng ‘Vice’ Motshabi, Prince Lamla, Ntshieng Mokgoro and Zwai Mgijima. They have also had extensive mentoring with Dutch theatre director and director of Twist Projects, Roel Twijnstra, with visiting Dutch street theatre artists, and Durban-based acting teachers Bhekani Shabalala, Musa Ntuli, Mtho Zulu and Philisiwe Twijnstra.
The groups co-created new productions with these mentors, and performed them at a range of festivals around KZN and in their own home communities, in a programme that sees a revitalisation of exciting content and forms for theatre. These are written into scripts in English and Zulu which are compiled into the “New South African Playscripts” book that will be launched in Durban on 25 March.
This book makes contemporary theatre scripts available free of charge to educational institutions and organisations for use in writing, directing and performance projects. Twist co-director, Emma Durden, comments: “There are not many formally published playscripts in South Africa, and we are very excited to release this collection of 11 new plays. The opportunity to publish in both English and Zulu promotes greater access to written theatre work and we are delighted to be able to facilitate this.”
Twist Projects at Musho
The new book will be launched alongside a smaller compilation of short plays from the annual Novel-Script Project, which includes scripts created by South African, Mozambiquan, Zambian and Zimbabwean writers. The launch coincides with the graduation of 21 emerging theatre practitioners who have been part of the Twist programme over the past year and a half, and the inaugural Twist Game-Changer Award; awarded to an individual who has made a difference to access and education in the theatre landscape of KZN.
The launch and award presentation will be at 5pm on Saturday 25 March at the Courtyard Theatre at the Durban University of Technology’s Steve Biko Campus. All are welcome. For more information contact [email protected].
The publishing of these script compilations is funded by the National Lotteries Commission.
Bilingual compilation of South African scripts was originally published on Artsvark

The Pinetown Covered Bridge after today's snow storm.
This bridge is brand new. Kind of. It was damaged in 2011 by Tropical Storm Lee. Two years and $850,000 later it was rebuilt. The bridge was totally dismantled and rebuilt by Lycoming Construction. A few of the old timbers were reused but it is mostly new. It was also raised 2 feet to avoid being damaged again.
This bridge is 125 feet long and uses the popular Burr Arch truss. It is one of 29 covered bridges in Lancaster. It is county owned and is on the National Register of Historic Places.  It was originally built in 1867 by Elias McMellan, a young Civil War vet. The bridge washed downriver during Hurricane Agnus in the 1970s and was rebuilt by a local Amish builder who later drowned in a river.
This bridge is reportedly haunted. The story goes that if you park your car inside late at night and turn off the lights the ghost of a young Amish girl will walk over your car, leaving tracks. She reportedly drowned when she fell out of the bridge while chasing a ball. I have tried to see her several times but I never saw her. I'm not sure if she is haunting this bridge since it is mostly new. Where did her ghost go while the bridge was dismantled and is 15% of the old bridge enough to retain her spirit? I would appreciate any info on this subject.
The bridge does make a nice picture in the snow: old, new or haunted.
