Finally saw Aftersun a couple days ago. I was glued to the screen the entire time. The happy moments, the sad moments. Everything in between. The cinematography was nothing I’ve ever seen before, it really added to the emotion of the film. Charlotte Wells definitely knew what she wanted when making this film and it came out perfectly. Frankie Corio, for being totally new to acting, was absolutely phenomenal. She was so charming and really matched the emotion of the film. Paul Mescal was the perfect Calum. He is clearly a master at very emotional roles. I could definitely see at least him, and hopefully Charlotte and Frankie as well, getting nominated for Oscars (or other awards). The ending I had already read about going into it, but actually watching it definitely made my heart freeze for a moment watching it, processing it. It’s definitely a film that people are and should be talking about. And I think will be remembered for a long time. It definitely made me remember back to vacations I took with my very dysfunctional family as a kid. It’s a one-of-a-kind film that deserves all the recognition It’s getting.
