The Church of Saint-Séverin in Paris is one of the oldest churches that remains standing on the Left Bank in what is called the Latin Quarter.  It was constructed beginning in 1230, then was rebuilt and enlarged after a fire in the 15th-17th centuries in the Flamboyant Gothic style.  In the second photograph above, notice the upper part of the central widow.  The stone tracery is shaped like flames.  This is why the architectural style is called Flamboyant.

The gargoyles stand out from the walls dramatically, looming over the adjacent sidewalk.  In a heavy rain, I bet they could really drench pedestrians.

Today’s photo: the nave of Lancaster Priory church.

It sits, adjacent to Lancaster Castle, on the site of a Roman fort, and a 6th CE Saxon Church (there may have been an even earlier foundation). After the Conquest, a Benedictine Priory was established by Roger of Poitou, which remained until Henry VIII’s Dissolution, in 1539.

I WAS WALKING ALONG BERKELEY STREET AND BERKELEY ROAD

I visited Berkeley Road today, Sunday, as I had hoped to photograph the interior of the Carmelite Church but it was closed as was the park beside the church.

AND WAS CAUGHT OUT IN AN AMAZINGLY SUDDEN THUNDER STORM The change in the weather caught me totally by surprise but the rain storm lasted less than five minutes.
