by the way when i say other cricketers i mostly mean the english players and no offence but i do not get what people see in them…like i know theres english people on here who obviously are gonna post about their own team but like i refuse to believe those players are that interesting
#joe root might be the only white person on that team i care for#moeen ali and adil rashid get my support by default though because theyre fellow brown people and muslims so like they were always gonna be#included in this incredibly small list#but yeah thats it i could care less for any other english player like so many of them infuriate me for no reason#buttler and stokes are two popular ones i dont care for at all but for some reason theyre (relatively) popular on here?#in comparison to other individual players i mean#australia has fans on here too but like i dont mind them because the aus team is interesting to me#nz had some key word being had as in most of those blogs are inactive now so thats great but its a nice time capsule almost to revisit-#those blogs and see what was going on then in earlier years#as for pak i literally can count on my hands the number of blogs dedicated to pak anf its not a lot at all 😭#im gonna post more about pak cricket too but thats when psl starts#indian cricket fans are probably pretty common om here too i just purposely ignore them because like as a pakistani i cant bring myself-#care about that team at all and any time i see an indian player its like a jumpscare you know#hate that team so much its in my dna but theyre also just obnoxious as people#our team just has a bunch of cuties like what has pak ever done#anyway yeah that concludes my massive rant in the tags but in conclusion i need to see more subcontinent cricket stuff#as compared to white people cricket like we should be more active than the colonizers guys#what do i tag this as#i guess cricket but like i dont want to be attacked and murdered#its okay whatever happens doesn’t matter to me#cricket

What would happen if PSL!reader fell in love with Idia? Maybe their photographic memory makes them immune to the river (that was mentioned in book 6) so Idia realizes that he could have a future with reader... or be forced to, by his parents. And would Azul take advantage of this?
The chaos.
Oh no... Idia realizes he got to pull an SSR card!? Craaaappp... One question, w h y. He doesn't know how you even fell in love?!
Idia rn:
Tumblr media
While you're over here like:
Tumblr media
Oh no, he's REALLY hesitating to approach you... you're a cool dude and all... Does he need a player #2 in his world..? Or are you just another character that pops up in one route when he makes a big decision??? He doesn't know...
but then when he realizes you have photographic memory he's like: Oh no. They probably have everything down to my particles memorized... (Idia is just overthinking, don't mind him) About the river, he does realize you're immune to it so... there's no use for that I guess...
But the moment his parents forced him to? DAMN, What kind of cliché princess and prince dynamic is that? You know those arranged marriage crap that is?? (Phantom br-) And... the thought of marriage... HE DOESN'T WANT TO SHARE ROOM INVENTORY!? It's like changing your difficulty to max...
Anywho, whenever he sees you looking for him he's going to RUN. Wait- How did you- HOW DID YOU MEMORIZE HIS SCHEDULE!? WHAT THE FU-
TIME TIME TIME, WHY ARE YOU IN IGNIHYDE DORM!? NOOOOO YOU'RE KNOCKING IN FRONT OF HIS ROOM, ORTHO DON'T ANSWER!
You rn:
Tumblr media
Ortho, opening the door:
Tumblr media
I mean, SOMEONE likes his big brother now!!! Ortho has to thank you for that lmao And Idia??? Wai- Your hair is red... WAIT HIS HAIR IS RED, NOW YOU SEE HIM AND IT'S GOING TO BE INGRAINED IN YOUR HEAD NOOOOOOOOOO Idia feels like he doesn't have a restart button whenever he's with you tbh... YOU'RE LIKE... THAT ONE BOSS WHERE THEY CAN BREAK THE FOURTH WALL!
Anyways, When Azul and he are at the club, Azul was wondering why you keep asking how was Idia and stuff. He asks why you have some kind of interest in him.
When you went inside the room, Idia's red hair and Ortho accompanying you with a smile was enough explanation.
Azul would just......... ship you two. For the love??? No??? It's for business bro. [pulls in the deranged twins] I will need you to squeeze info out your sister about her feelings towards that flaming smurf Expect Azul to tease Idia about you and tell him what you do that's connected to you.
Azul: You know, the twin's sibling? Yeah, they draw you every day because they have memorized every single molecule in your body.
Idia:
Tumblr media
....hoWT HE HELL DID YOU FIND HIS SOCIALS!? NONONONONOONONONONONOOOOOOOOOOO
Well.. at least he's more comfortable talking there... than.. in person...
Wait... DO YOU PLAY THAT GAME AS WELL?! He adds you in said game and YOUR BUILD!? Holy crap bro how long have you been playing all of the stats are out of this world... and you're a bit social as well and not that much of a shut-in??? Props to you... wait why is he blushing

Selma Bacha Le Progres Interview (October 17, 2023)
Blah blah standard disclaimers apply; god I HATE invasive behavior so much it genuinely makes my skin crawl; @OL Comms Dept a PSL I beg of you; y'all know the speech by now. I don't want to commit to translating Le Progres articles on a regular basis but as is everything in life, that is subject to change.
In which the prodigal child returns from the cold, remembers Lyon's win/loss record against Barcelona, disses Lyon's men's team, and confesses love and admiration for WoSo's favorite Bad Catholic.
It was basically a fan Q&A and anyone with a Le Progres subscription will be able to find their names; however I took out the fans' names because I just don't feel comfortable outing private information like that. (See, it's that easy to be a decent human being and respect someone's privacy!!! Who would have thought!!!!)
SELMA BACHA LE PROGRES INTERVIEW
Selma Bacha: "My biggest strength is my instinct"
For one hour, the Olympique Lyonnais and French International left back talked with Le Progres readers with all the spontaneity and frankness we have come to expect from her. Without shying away from a single question. Her tenacious character, the difference in attendance for men's football compared to women's football, the support from her family, how she regards mental strength, her role models, her relationship with Wendie Renard... A Bacha with no filter!
[Fan]: Do you play any other sport apart from rugby?
I do a lot of boxing during preseason and when we're in preseason. It allows me to blow off steam. I also enjoy swimming, and because I'm such a competitor, I always have to swim against someone who swims professionally so I can improve and to improve my mental strength. I also go hiking even if I like it a little less. Ever since I was young, I really loved sports in general. In middle school, I did cross country. I wanted to do my middle school proud so I gave everything, and I finished third in the French Championship.
[Fan]: Did you play with the boys in the academy?
I started playing with the boys when I was five. I was recruited really quickly by Lyon when I was eight. But my parents got divorced at that time and I lived with my father and my brother, so I have certain male characteristics. But maybe that's what gave me my desire to win, the determination, how to be aggressive and not let anything go.
[Fan]: What would you say is the difference between men's football and women's football? The difference in attendance?
We do the same job, but female players don't bring in as much money as the men do. But we're seeing some progress, we see it with the French National Team where we often play in front of sold-out crowds. It's up to us to win over supporters, to make them proud and gain interest in us. I have a lot of confidence in that even if it's a little frustration to play the final of the Coupe de France or the Trophee des Championnes in front of a small crowd. That being said, then a game is at 9pm on a Sunday, I understand that's it is complicated for families.
[Fan]: Were you disappointed not to play the derby [against ASSE] at the Groupama Stadium?
I think I can speak for the team but we would prefer to play in front of a smaller crowd with a great atmosphere, which may have been lost if we played at the Groupama Stadium.
[Fan]: What is your best memory in the Champions League?
My first final in Kiev [Lyon beat Wolfsburg 4-1]. I wasn't even expecting to be on the team sheet and I went to the pregame meeting and I found myself starting at the age of 17. The atmosphere was incredible. Overseas, people are really interested in those types of events. Here in France, we're sleepwalking our way through it, even if after the [2019] World Cup a lot of people started to get more into women's football.
[Fan]: Other countries have overtaken women's football in France. What do you think about that?
It's not to put down our league because things were put in place and we were heard, so respect for that, but when there is a clash like Chelsea-Manchester City in England, it's hard to compete against. Discussions were had, I'm a bit young but Wendie Renard is taking part in them and things are starting to change. In July, professionalism was put in place, so it's moving forward. Slowly but surely.
[Fan]: What has been the most difficult thing in your career?
I integrated the professional group very quickly. I saw everything through rose tinted glasses at first. And when I was on the bench, I was asking the right questions of myself. I was talking with the physical fitness coach, the psychologist, the nutritionist, and I told myself I need to work twice as hard to achieve what I really wanted. I'm someone who is always very smiley and when I'm hurting, no one will know. I can internalize a lot but it will explode, I implode by myself and obviously, that's not good mentally. I have my parents, my team and my best friend, Alyssa Paljevic (former goalkeeper at Lyon), who is a shoulder to lean on. She doesn't judge me and she tells me if I'm wrong or not.
[Fan]: Are you properly supported in terms of mental health?
It depends on each individual. I often tell the youth to make sure to have a good support system. When I arrived at 16 [to the pro group], I wasn't paying a lot of attention to nutrition, to sleep, to recovery, the invisible part of training. I quickly understood you needed support and structure to achieve my objections, which are really high. When I go the [team] psychologist, it's because it helps me a lot mentally.
[Fan]: What qualities do you need to become professional?
Being good at football obviously. Beyond that, only hard work pays off. I give a lot of credit to the people working behind the scenes who put things in place for us. The invisible part of training is also really important. Beyond that, it comes down to having a lot of fun and confidence, you have to follow your instinct. Now it's my turn to ask if you want to be a professional football player? You'd like that? Right there, you can't say "I'd like to". You have to say "I want to" to send the right information to your brain and have confidence in yourself.
[Fan]: Have you stayed in contact with FC Gerland, the team you started with?
I'm the godmother of my former club which is still very dear to me. Last season, I was able to gift them jerseys thanks to my sponsor. Whenever I can go and give them advice, I do it without hesitation.
{Fan]: Do you play Fifa?
From what I'm told, apparently in the game, I'm expensive and a "cheat code"... Personally I don't really play, I prefer to relax.
[Fan]: Do you train in the morning and afternoon like the men's team?
Who told you the men's team train in the morning and afternoon? (laughter) We often have training in the morning, but sometimes we have double or even triple sessions when we come back from vacation. But yeah, we're like the men, we do the same job.
[Fan]: Do you interact with the men's team?
Yes, and besides that, once a year, during the gala for OL Foundation [Lyon charity], we're seated a table with investors and there's obviously a player from the men's team next to us. You might think they have big egos but when you get to know them, they're real softies. We see them in the cafeteria as well.
[Fan]: Was the transition post-Aulas easier for the women's team?
I don't know what's going on on their [men's team] end but from our end, Michele Kang came to see us, we had talks. We're not an easy team to handle but we're not complicated. (laughter)
[Fan]: Which players are your role model?
I'm a footballer but I don't watch a lot of football. The players who inspire, it's Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo, because they're hard workers.
[Fan]: Have you recovered from your ankle injury in Australia?
My ankle doesn't bother me anymore otherwise I wouldn't be on the field, especially because I have a long season ahead and therefore we won't want to take any risks. But it's true the sprain was no joke. I had 10 days to recover. It didn't hurt at all during the World Cup even if it was swollen. I'm not a cheat: if I'm not 100 percent it's not worth putting me on the field. So yeah, my ankle is a little unstable since, it'll roll sometimes, I'll be in pain for 30 seconds up to a minute, but that's normal. Let's just say I played my joker. At Lyon there is all the necessary medical staff, I'm in good hands.
[Fan]: Does it help you to play in your hometown?
There are advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is I was born here, all my family is here and I'm really close to my family so I have a lot of support, that really helps me. But sometimes, you just want to be alone and that's not always an option.
[Fan]: What is your relationship like with Wendie [Renard]?
Wendie, she took me immediately under her wing as soon as I integrated the pro group. She knows the love and admiration I have for her. She's in my heart, she's a big sister for me who I can always count on. Our friendship goes beyond football. When things were going badly and I thought about quitting football, she really helped me. I owe an enormous amount to her.
[Fan]: Do you think you will change clubs in the upcoming years?
That's a good question! (laughter) I'm under contract with Lyon until 2025. I have incredibly strong feelings for this club, I grew up with them. For the moment, I'm good here, I live it day by day and for the moment, I'm not imagining myself elsewhere.
[Fan]: You wouldn't want to go to Barcelona?
Why would I choose Barcelona? (laughter) I'm not afraid to test myself in a new league. Each year, in my room, I take a blank piece of paper and write down my objectives. Last season [2021-2022], I wasn't expecting to be be the youngest player in the Champions League, have the most assists, be nominated to the Ballon d'Or... I couldn't believe it. But when you play for the team and you put the team first, the individual stats will follow by themselves.
[Fan]: Do you practice a lot shooting from afar?
Let's just say it's instinct. I have a very strong left foot. The assistant coach for the French National Team teases me a lot about that: he tells me I have a more powerful shot than certain male players but I need to put them on target (laughter), so I know what I have to improve on. I'd say that above all else, my strength, it's my instinct. I always follow it: if I have to take a shot, I'll shoot, if I have to get my teammate to score, I'll do it. I don't think just about me. I'd rather have an assist than score, even if scoring, it's a really special feeling.
[Fan]: Which team has the best style of play in your eyes?
Olympique Lyonnais (laughter). Otherwise I'd say Barcelona, because I am a player who likes ball possession and at the top level, the Spanish players are the best. I like to watch Barcelona.
[Fan]: Who was the best team you played against?
That's a good question. I'd say Chelsea and Barcelona.
[Fan]: And the best player according to you?
There are a lot. At the moment, I'd say Eugenie Le Sommer. Aitana Bonmati (Barcelona) as well, she's really good.
[Fan]: Do you chip in training?
Ball control, nutmeg, shooting, yes. But not really chips.
[Fan]: What is it like being an undisputed starter with the French National Team?
It's an honor! My team knows how much I struggled and all the tears I shed. Compared to other players, I integrated it a little later but I never gave up. There were nights when I was crying at home and I was thinking: "what am I missing?" And one day, when Lyon was at Issy-les-Moulineaux, I learnt that I would be called up because Sakina Karchaoui was injured. At first I couldn't believe it and I was even afraid the coach was pranking me. I screamed really loudly in the bus, everyone was really happy for me. Being at Clairefontaine, seeing the castle, it was a childhood dream. I'll never forget my first game against Kazakhstan, especially because I was a starter. And then I scored in my second game against Wales! I couldn't dream it any better. Now, my status has changed, but I'm not going to get a big head over it. I stay smiley, likable and I never forget where I came from. I want to keep my feet on the ground because it can all change so quickly.
{Fan]: How did you handle coming back from the World Cup?
That night, obviously I didn't sleep. But despite my missed penalty, I told myself that I gave everything and shouldn't have any regrets. Especially because I came into the tournament with an injury and had 10 days to recover from a big sprain. Afterwards? There was a long flight with a lot of sadness and frustration. I landed mid-morning in Lyon, I went to see my family and that afternoon, I went to Montpellier and then the next day to Marrakech. I turned my phone off and no one knew where I was. I needed a lot of time before I could talk about the World Cup.
[Fan]: What was missing for this World Cup?
Efficiency of course. We weren't able to impose our style of play and we were subjected to Australia's. Maybe we lacked a bit of bite as well. Ellie Carpenter, my Australian teammate, when she has one touch of the ball, she moves up 10 meters. When you foul a Brazilian player, they form a group around the referee to put pressure on her. When we had a team meeting about it, Kenza Dali actually called me out by name and said we needed to be more like me, aggressive. Of course you need to respect the referee and not waste energy for no reason when she has already made her decision, but in the quarterfinal of the World Cup, I think we can go talk to the ref. And not just in football. Look at rugby!

character offered: Rogue
fandom: X-Men: original trilogy movieverse
rp you're offering for / rp type you'd wanna play in: Long-term PSL/1-on-1, though I'm always up for throwing in other characters as NPCs. And, for Marvel, I've got a good number of them.
I’m looking something either post-X3 or post-X2 (but still a bit into the future just eliminating the events of X3 -- let's be honest, no one liked that movie).
I'd be looking for a Pyro from this time period (probably putting them somewhere between the ages or 21-26). Preferably one that's been hardened by time with the Brotherhood, hates the hell out of humans, and who isn't afraid to commit to a ton of snark and antagonization between the two (along with the awful awkwardness that goes with them being on two completely opposite sides). I'd love for this to go into love/hate shipping territory. What their relationship actually was in previous movies (because X2 is vague on it) pre-X2 is up for discussion and brainstorming.
Generally, lots of clandestine meetings (being able to utilize the idea of emails and texts in RP is also a bonus) between the two, with a wide range of types of scenes. I'd love scenes with them arguing about morals and ideals as much as I would love more action-packed scenes. So, really, everything from fluff to angst to drama to slice-of-life to action to smut to… well, you get it. The potential for Rogue to switch sides and actually go to the Brotherhood is on the table, but that would be the result of character development and something that could played around with.
The current state of the world around them is completely open for brainstorming as well (DOFP-ish, various states of the Brotherhood’s influence on the world, various states of the X-Men’s influence on the world, how anti-mutant things are, etc.)
I have ideas for pretty much all of this that I'm happy to share, I'm just trying to avoid the dreaded wall of text (I've already failed at that). I'd love to hear from both seasoned-players of this character and people going "huh, I've never written this character but this sounds like something I might want to try". If you're in the latter category and you want a sounding board as you establish the character's voice, I'm more than happy to chat or do test scenes all you want.
preferences: 21+ writers only (I’d like this to go into NSFW territory so this is non-negotiable). I prefer third-person writing and past tense, but let me know if you prefer something else because I can adapt for a great line.
Tag length is really dependent on what needs to be gotten across in the tag. I generally like there to be a good mix of prose, actions, and thoughts so we both have something substantial to reply to. Plus, if I'm looking to write with a specific character, it's because I enjoy the character and want to know what's going on in their head. Basically, if you need five long paragraphs to get across what you need to in a tag, that's fine. If you need one paragraph that's fine. As long as it's not a series of one-liners.
If any of this sparks some other idea you want to pitch, contact me about that too. I’m easily enabled.
If you want more on the preferences/permissions front, I have a post https://gloves.dreamwidth.org/3728.html
I also have a shipping/kink/smut preferences post https://gloves.dreamwidth.org/28913.html
Please feel free to send a message if you’re interested:)

Pumpkin spice lattes
Tumblr media
Player: Jan Oblak Words: 1221 Requested: - Warnings: Mentions of injuries A/N: Jan seemed like the kind of person who'd secretly enjoy a PSL 🤷‍♀️ Let me know what you think!
Autumn masterlist

------------
“Hey,” she said, peering around the doorframe, “ready?”
Jan turned around and groaned when he saw it was her, making her grin.
“Come on, you know you’ll feel better afterwards.”
Jan rolled his eyes at that.
“She’s right, it’s important to build up strength through low impact exercise,” his physical therapist said.
“Not you too,” Jan groaned.
“Come on sunshine, I’ll buy you a coffee.”
The prospect of something that tasted better than the stuff they offered in the dining hall finally swayed him. Jan sighed and got up from the massage table.
“Fine,” he grumbled, following her out of the training facility. It was a hell of his own making, if he was being honest. They had met during an Atletico press day a few years ago. She had played as a goalkeeper for the women’s team, so they ended up chatting about the differences between the men’s and women’s leagues, and swapped stories about their favourite saves. Long story short, they became best friends. And then she suffered a career ending injury. Jan came to see her every day while she was still in hospital. When she got out, Atletico offered her a job on the social media side of things. During the first six months, he would come by her office and drag her along for walks while her shoulder was still healing, and later he’d drag her along to the gym for workouts. And now she was returning the favour while he was recovering from a ligament injury in his ankle.
“You get to pick, 1k or 2k?” she asked, referring to the distance. Jan knew he should go for the longer distance, but that involved stairs which he wasn’t looking forward to after today’s session in PT.
“1k, my ankle already took a beating thanks to Óscar.” She chuckled and linked her arm with his.
“Alright, 1k it is then.”
Jan was grateful to be able to sit down once they got to the café they both loved. His ankle wasn’t hurting per se, but it had started to throb. He let himself fall on the bench with a groan.
“Same as always?” she asked. Jan nodded as he tried to breath through the pain. He turned sideways so he could rest his leg on the bench as well, and the elevation eased some of the pain. Jan enjoyed the sunshine for a while, closing his eyes and tilting his face up. He noticed her leaving the café, pretty much dancing towards him.
“An Americano for the grump and a PSL for me!”
“A PS-.. What’s a PSL?” Jan asked as he took his coffee from her. He pointedly ignored her calling him a grump. It was one of her nicknames for him and he begrudgingly accepted that. To be fair, he was grumpy. The rehab was taking longer than he’d like and it was wearing him down. She lifted his injured leg and sat down, resting his foot in her lap.
“Only a gift from the coffee gods; Pumpkin spice latte. I was hoping they’d have them. These are my fave this time of year,” she beamed at him.
“Can’t say I’ve ever had one,” Jan said, taking a sip from his own coffee. She gasped, turning to look at him with wide eyes.
“Jan Oblak, you my friend have not truly lived. Here,” she said, handing him her cup. He looked at her, not fully trusting she wasn’t pulling his leg, and took a tempative sip.
“Jesus,” he muttered. She laughed and took the cup back.
“That’s diabetes in liquid form!” Jan said incredulously.
“I know,” she said, eyes twinkling with mirth, “isn’t it the best?”
He threw her a look, eyebrows raised as if to say are you kidding me? which only made her laugh again, head thrown back. Jan shook his head and took another sip of his black coffee to rinse out the overly sweet drink.
“I don’t always get them, but I came to realise life’s too short to only drink boring coffee,” she said, shrugging one shoulder and taking another sip of her latte. They were quiet for a moment while he mulled that over in his head. If he was honest with himself, Jan had to admit that she was right; life was too short to only do the things you had to do and not do the things you loved.
“Could I try another sip, now that I know to expect pure sugar?” Jas asked. She chuckled and handed him the cup. Jan took another sip, picking up on the different spices this time. Yes, it was still sweet, but it was.. Nice. The spices were very autumnal. He could see the appeal.
“Not bad. Still prefer something that won’t decrease my lifespan with each sip, but I can see why you like them,” he admitted.
“I’ll make a PSL-lover out of you yet, just you wait,” she said with a grin, taking her coffee back from him.
“The club nutritionist will love you for sure,” he said sarcastically.
“They don’t have to know I’m smuggling you PSLs. I ask for an extra pump of the pumpkin spice syrup, but they’re normally not this sweet. Make you a deal: if you can run 1k without pain on the treadmill, I’ll treat you to one.” She held out her hand. Jan thought for a moment. Maybe this was the kind of bribery he needed to get through physical therapy.
“Deal,” he said, shaking her hand.
“How’s it going, sunshine?” she asked as she walked into the gym of the training facility. It had been five weeks since they made their deal and Jan had been working hard in PT to reach his goal. He grunted a response from his position on the floor. She waited for him to finish his reps before she spoke again.
“Heard you’re making vast improvements,” she said. Jan nodded, wiping the sweat from his brow.
“A little birdie told me you ran even more than 1k this morning,” she continued. Jan looked at her, eyebrows raised. He then threw a glare at his physical therapist. Óscar raised his hands.
“Don’t look at me, Oblak. Wasn’t me.”
“Marcos told me,” she explained, “he and I go way back. But great job Jan! 1.3 kilometres, that’s huge!” Jan grumbled a reply, not looking at her.
“Oi, if you keep up this act I’ll just have to give this to someone else. Maybe Marcos will appreciate it. Or Anto. That man loves his sugary drinks,” she said, pulling a to-go cup from behind her back.
“Ah, now it all makes sense,” Óscar said with a laugh. Jan slumped his shoulders.
“I’m sorry for snapping at you. It’s been… It’s been a week,” Jan said.
“I know. Here,” she said gently, holding the cup out to him. Jan took it from her, wrapping his hands around it.
“Thank you,” he muttered, taking a temptative sip. Jan would be lying if he said he hadn’t been looking forward to this. After she had introduced him to the PSL as she called it, he’d gone back a couple of times to get one himself with less of the syrup. He absolutely loved them now.
“You’re welcome. Told you I’d convert you to a PSL-lover,” she said, grinning wide.

Today's Current Affairs: PCB Proposes Radical Changes to PSL Schedule The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is considering moving the Pakistan Super League (PSL) window to April and May, potentially clashing with the Indian Premier League (IPL). This move comes as the PCB plans to add two new franchises to the PSL in 2026, expanding the league to eight teams. The decision has sparked debate among franchise owners, with concerns raised about player availability and competition with the IPL. The PCB is also exploring the possibility of hosting the PSL playoffs and final in the UK to avoid the scorching heat of Lahore in mid-May. Stay tuned as the future of the PSL schedule unfolds. Ownership can only be sold if current owners decline to match the franchise's valuation. Why are some PSL franchises opposed to the proposed April/May window for the PSL? Some PSL franchises oppose the proposed window because it could affect player availability, make them play second fiddle to the IPL, and limit their options for recruiting top players. How does the PCB plan to address concerns about player availability in the proposed window? Ada Hegeberg OLPlay Interview (September 2023)
Blah blah standard disclaimers apply; @OL Comms Dept pls pls pls either chip for my AC bill or pay for a PSL I just want to feel loved; don't want to commit to translating every interview but it's directly related to how much I want to put off doing chores around the apartment, etc etc. Y'all know the speech by now.
Timothee > others. This interview was done prior to the Trophee des Championnes game.
You can't teach a team how to have a killer instinct, either they have it or they don't. It's something Hegerberg touches on in this interview. She understands Lyon in a way so many others don't. Did Lyon create Hegerberg in their own image, or did she mold them into hers? I do love a good philosophical chat. Luckily for me, so does Hegerberg.
ADA HEGERBERG OLPLAY INTERVIEW
Timothee: First of all, how are things going before the start of the season?
Hegerberg: It's going really well. And I think the atmosphere is really good, as usual. You can't be dismissive of that, but I think we have to appreciate the good atmosphere that we have with us. I hope it lasts throughout the season. And we're working hard, of course. I think we're still in preseason mode, even if we have important games coming up pretty quickly. And as for me, personally, I'm really happy to be with the team again, the players, the club. I think we're approaching the season with a lot of serenity, even if there's a lot of work left to do. But I think - well I have the impression that we're really enjoying ourselves in what we're doing, and I think that's important.
TImothee: Can you tell us how you spent your summer? You had a little break after the World Cup, a break before returning with the team. How was your summer and do you feel personally about coming back?
Hegerberg: Despite everything, I think we had quite a few weeks off. I think it's the first time in years that we really had a break and I can't tell you how important it is for us, mentally and physically. It [the schedule] is becoming more and more packed, the calendar asks more and more of us. So to have had that break could only have been a good thing for this season. And there was the World Cup, it was long. There was a lot of work. I think it was a big challenge for Norway. I think that unfortunately for me, I had a minor hamstring tear [I thought they said it was a groin injury but whatever, she knows best I guess] at the worst time. It's part of sports, I guess, even if it's hard. After that, I'm not going to hide behind saying that we did what we had to do. I would have liked us to have displayed football that was a bit - [Hegerberg exhales] - that was prettier. I think we can say that. I think there's a lot of work to be done with Norway. But I'm not going to deny it, it's good to come back here [to Lyon], to start a new season with new objectives, because despite everything I'm someone who is really ambitious as well. And I really want to win everything this year, to really enjoy myself. It's the first time in years now that I take part in preseason, in good health, with so much fire. So I want to enjoy it. But I feel that I really want to start the season off well.
Timothee: Yes, I was going to say that. You had a complicated season last year. Unfortunately you had to watch a lot of games and not be able to take part in them. I imagine you're hungry now.
Hegerberg: Oh yeah. I have a lot of hunger. I try to find the balance between being on the offensive mentally but at the same time enjoy it. Beyond that, it's going to be a big season. I can feel it. And we'll have to work hard but we have to enjoy it as well. I'm ready to burn everything down with the team. We'll do everything to make that happen. We really have the potential to reach the highest level this year.
Timothee: If we take a moment to quickly look back at last season, there was that disappointment against Chelsea. It was a cruel defeat, because you did exactly what was expected from you, you played two hours, it was a pleasure to watch. And there was that last minute. I imagine there's a desire for revenge this season because that.
Hegerberg: [long pause] I think I just have one thing to say about this: we're going on the offensive. We didn't win it [the UWCL] last year, that has to serve us even more as motivation. We need to exploit our qualities even more. I don't think we fulfilled the team's potential last year. It's something that we need to keep in mind this year. And to be honest it's a beautiful thing, to be on the offensive, and to be really hungry to show all the qualities we have. It's nothing but positive, and we have to - it was hard, honestly. It was hard to swallow. But you have to turn it into something positive as well. We were spoiled, the last ten years, I don't know how many Champions Leagues we won, but it's a number that doesn't exist in [women's] football. So despite everything, we need to increase the number of titles, especially that of the Champions League.
Timothee: After that difficult moment in the Champions League, there was that moment in the final of the Coupe de France, there was that wonderful goal you scored with pretty much your first touch. Tell us about the emotions, how you felt in that moment.
Hegerberg: There were a lot of emotions. I really adore those types of games. I love those moments, it's the end of the season, titles are on the line. I was struggling for a really long time with the same injury. And at the end, finally, I could be myself again. There was a lot of work behind the scenes. It's true that we fell short in the Champions League. I would have liked to have had more games under my belt in those moments. But despite all that, when I threw myself into it, I was all in. And that's why for this season I am telling myself I had a good preseason, and there's nothing but positive things to take away from it.
TImothee: Hmm. It's true that for that final, we felt as though you wanted something to happen, that the Coupe de France was your moment in some ways. Like the moment when we got the ball. We felt as though you weren't even looking at the goal, it wasn't even your dominant foot and you just took a shot. It went straight in. It was an incredible moment, you have to admit.
Hegerberg: Yeah. It was an incredible moment. It's like any big moment on the field with this team. It's - there was a title on the line, it had been a while since I had played in a big game like that. So obviously on a personal level it was a big moment for me. After that, it came down to doing your job, as always. It's about spontaneity. And in the end we won a big title.
Timothee: Did it make you happy to say "I didn't lose my touch, I still have it, everything is like it was before"?
Hegerberg: [laughs] I understand the question, and it's true that experiencing it for real, it brings a lot of confidence. It's really during games that you're like, you see where you're at in the process. Despite everything, I think that I did a really good job on the mental level as well, because it's not a sure thing to come back to the highest level after so much time away. You have to really prepare yourself. After, I really took the time to visualize football every day, even if I was in the gym. And I think I prepared myself really well, on the mental level as well. Because when you come back, you have to find your rhythm again, you have to get the feelings back. But this time I think this is it, it came back a little faster you can say than the previous time. Now you can also say it was a shorter period as well, but it's not a done deal. And I'm proud of the work I did, and just happy to be back with the team again and that everything is going well.
Timothee: Well you went and won titles last year. There's another one coming up. The Trophee des Championnes is a bit particular, it's the first official game of the season but at the same time it's also a final, it's a bit particular in its own way.
Hegerberg: It's a bit particular because we haven't been together for that long when you think about it. It's been 10 days since we've had the complete group back, actually it's been a week. Now you can also say we're lucky because we know each other really well. It's more or less the same team. We have Melchie [Dumornay] and Kady [Diani] who are new [to the team]. Otherwise I think everyone was just really happy to be back with the team. We really enjoy playing with each other. And having to play important games right off the bat, I don't think it bothers us. I think it quickly puts things in place, it almost forces us to immediately get into the right mindset for the season and not take anything lightly. So I'm excited for those games. And it's a trophy.
Timothee: It's something that shouldn't be underestimated, being back, being happy to see your teammates again. The roster might change a little but the atmosphere stays pretty consistent, you're happy to be around each other again. I think that's important.
Hegerberg: It's important. It's so important. I can't tell you how important it is to - we're going to need everybody throughout the whole season. And we know there are really different personalities, different characters. There are different qualities. So putting all those elements together, that's the recipe for winning everything. You need a group that sticks together to win. I think that when I talk to a lot of people outside the team, I think we're lucky. Because it's not always like that. I don't think it's like that everywhere. And we have to take advantage of that. And we have to - it has to work for us, we have to push ourselves harder. We have to have high expectations for ourselves and for each other because that's the only way you progress as a team and individually. And that's just a bonus.
Timothee: You talked about Kady [Diani] and Melchie [Dumornay] who arrived. How did you experience the arrival of those two players? You knew them from before, but now we see them on the team. How did you experience that?
Hegerberg: They are two really good players. And we know them pretty well, because some [Lyon players] have played with both of them. And obviously that, in terms of team spirit, I think it's not the worse group to integrate [unless you're Izzy Christiansen I guess]. I think everyone understands the importance of making things easy for the new players, because we know the importance of quickly becoming integrated into the team so that they can perform as well as possible as soon as possible. And I think that's already the case. And it's a work in progress, because it takes time to get to know us, how things function, both each player on the team and also - yeah. It's a work in progress. You have to work on it throughout the season. But for the moment it's going really well.
Timothee: And they're top players on the field as well. That helps.
Hegerberg: That helps as well. It helps a lot. But honestly, they have a lot of qualities, and I really hope we can exploit its full potential.
Timothee: Quickly, there was also the arrival of Laura [Benkarth], who brought her experience from Bayern [Munich] and her knowledge of top level football. She brought a lot of experience.
Hegerberg: Yes. She's been with the team for several weeks now, so you can see she's integrated into the team really well. I think she's a person who is going to pick French up really quickly. She's someone who is very experienced, who is very open to things, and it's been nothing but positive to have her here. You have to remember she's German, so she's someone who is very disciplined, and someone who works really hard. So we're really happy to have her.
Timothee: So with the players available, there aren't any excuses possible. You have to try and win everything.
Hegerberg: Yeah. To be honest, we put a lot of pressure on ourselves, but seeing the players we have, and seeing the individual and collective talent, you owe it to yourself to have the highest ambitions possible.
Timothee: And for you personally, have you fixed objectives for yourself? Or are you just going to try your best and not put too much pressure on yourself?
Hegerberg: Yes, I have fixed objectives for myself. I think that's important as well. I don't think I've ever played a season without having fixed objectives for myself. So that's part of the process. And I want to enjoy it, to enjoy this team and the game. I hope I'm going to score a lot of goals, I hope I will contribute as much as possible to the team. And really push the team to win these big titles, because all the difficulties I've experienced, that's really behind me. I feel I lost almost three years of my career. And now I want to show what I'm capable of. And still have fun.
Timothee: We can't wait to see what you're capable of. Thank you, Ada.
Hegerberg: Thank you.
