Calèche sur le chemin d'Ashford le soir, 1914.
Ludovic-Rodo Pissarro. or just Pissaro. Oil on cardboard.
The painting was created shortly after Pissarro fled to England to escape the outbreak of World War I. The war had a profound impact on Pissarro, and his paintings from this period often reflect a sense of anxiety and uncertainty.

A rogue little group of people spying for economic reasons on us citizens. Three weeks ago I had a roof over my head staying at my sisters and after writing a post regarding my uncle Dr. Richard Katz and his son Gregory Katz both of palm beach gardens Florida and NYC, I suspect strongly strong arm tactics aǹd trying to drive me crazy by way of some sort of speaker possibly a directional speaker to get me to leave where I had been visiting for 2 1\2 months. I think this little group wanted me back in Jacksonville Florida where they had an expectation that I would again be homeless and broke, alone and vulnerable especially at night. Two days ago someone aimed what felt like a laser and hit my face just above my lip leaving a dry spot of dry blood. Dr. Richard Katz is my uncle. David Kaufman and Allison Kaufman are my cousins originally from Quentin Avenue in Brooklyn. Ironically I never had an argument with any of them but none of the could ever return a call. I am as certain as can be there are monies that were hidden from me and my sister, stolen inheritances and shares of a trust never disclosed to me. Seymour Kaufman is my great uncle. My aunt Sarah Kaufman. This group of morons behind this campaign directed at me are trying to lock me in p!ace, prevent me from working by badmouthing me and starving me out, in general, basically. This group is using noise torture. Dr. Dick resides in PRES-TEE-GIOUS Ballenisles country club in palm beach gardens. This group was not happy according to what I heard and next thing I know, just as I was getting somewhere, I'm uprooted again. This group of morons have been throwing alot of cash around paying people off or to say and do certain things.

Charles Shannon's picture (c1910) features his lifelong partner Charles de Sousy Ricketts at home in Chelsea - together they founded the art journal ‘The Dial’ in 1889 and the Vale Press in 1896; they were key figures in the London art world and hosted a wide circle of friends who included Aubrey Beardsley, Lucien Pissaro, William Rothenstein and Oscar Wilde.
