I'm trying to decide what to do with the upcoming orilium readathon. I, uh, failed the autumn equinox last year. Miserably.

And now that there are new careers again (I'm obsessed with both but I do think my character might choose the paleontology-ish one because she was originally on the necromancy path)... well... I'm debating what to do.

I could just change paths.

I could pretend my character had a sort of nervous breakdown and that's why she didn't finish last term but now she's slightly more stable and ready to continue along the path to becoming a necromancer. (Definitely not at all reflective of my own mental state in August last year.)

I could kill her off I guess, or let her fuck off on her own, whatever. And then make a new character and restart everything, either with a new career or back to necromancy.

Idk. I'm conflicted.

Book Review: I Want My Hat Back by Jon Klassen

Okay, I get why so many people go on about this now, though not to the extent that they do. It's a simple book with a plot I've seen before, but the twist ending is funny enough, depending on the person it's read to/reading it.

Persuasion Review

Persuasion by Jane Austen is a 267 page Adult Romance Classic.

Eight years ago, Anne Elliot and Frederick Wentworth fell head over heels in love. But Anne's snobbish family put a stop to their engagement, believing the young naval captain wasn't good enough for her. Pretty, intelligent Anne soon realises it was a terrible mistake, and spends her twenties in the shadow of her father and her selfish sisters. But she never forgets. Then Captain Wentworth - by now a successful, wealthy man, looking for a wife - walks back into her life. Can he forgive her? Does he still love her? And could they ever be happy, after all this time?

I rate this book 2/5 stars.

I absolutely didn’t follow any moment within this book, yet somehow I was compelled to continue this one rather than DNF’ing it. I still don’t know why. Maybe it’s because it was simply for a quest during the Magical Readathon Orilium 2023.

Because of this, I honestly can’t say if I recommend this one or not. There is one thing I know for sure, and that I that I won’t keep my copy of the book.

Apothecary Keeper

W ramach wyzwania czytelniczego w kwietniu biorę udział w Orilium Spring Equinox 2024.

Jedno z dodatkowych wyzwań to:

"Find, document (take pictures), and share at least 5 different flowers online."

Postanowiłam dzisiaj wykonać to zadanie. Wszystkie kwiatki udało mi się znaleźć na własnym podwórku. Nawet jakiś wielki robak zaczął łazić po mojej nodze (co za poświęcenie xD).

Kilka dni temu widziałam też bardzo ładne kwiatki rosnące na cmentarzu, ale było mi głupio kucać i robić tam zdjęcia.

Może jeszcze w tym miesiącu gdzieś wyczaję jakieś inne i im też zrobię zdjęcia. Jednak 5/5 już jest. :)

Part of me wants to stretch the meaning of "a court/royal book" (a prompt for the Orilium Autumn Equinox readathon) just a teensy bit and count Cold Days by Jim Butcher.

The queens of fairy play a really big part in that one (like, basically the entire plot has to do with them, in various ways), and the book opens at court, so if anyone else were to ask me if it would count, I'd say yes.

But, it's me, and I doubt my choices and always feel like I'm screwing up etc.

Currently reading

Earthrise/M.C.A Hogarth (Her Instruments #1)-I'm nearly a quarter through which is more than I expected to be because this book is over 600 pages, which I'm still nervous about because I'm always worried with big books that they weren't edited enough and so far with this one I don't see a need yet.

It started out a bit too fanfictiony for my tastes--as in everything happened so fast and I didn't even get used to the characters yet--but I've settled in (it's also slowed down a bit) and am enjoying it, though I doubt it will be a 5-star.

I do really like how the author writes action scenes. It's generally hard for me to get sucked into action scenes in books, but I am in this one.

I also like the worldbuilding. There are all kinds of different aliens. So far, it's not really exploring them except for one and a half, but I hope they will in the future and I appreciate that it's not just humans but slightly different.

This is my Orilium OC/PC „Ameria Balmyar“ (she/they) She is a young adult elf, that grew up in the only urban area in Irtheria.

During their time on the trail (which is like a pilgrimage/adventure) they found their allegiance to the house of Arcane (the guild most concerned with science of magic) and got a ring of protection (she really only uses it to get into the zone to work on projects though).

She found her talent regarding making things relatively early and later, when it was time to choose a calling for her education at Orilium Academy chose becoming a Craftsmage without much trouble. She did however illegally practice Alchemy for about a year before their family, friends and boyfriend pressured them into changing their calling to alchemy as to actually be legally allowed to practice the science.

Now in late december they were somehow found out and arrested… as they had never done any actual harm to anyone or anything that didn‘t belong to themselves, she was able to ask for trial by well…. trial… she had to get through a dungeon, which was hard but she managed. On the other side of that task, she was almost kicked out of the Alchemy calling (bc well illegal practicing) and forced to pick Craftsmage up again but bc Almeria did the Alchemy professor a solid last year (or well he tried to get her to break the law but she refused) he put in a good word for her and they were allowed to keep both their repuation and their calling. :)
