Nimona AU where Ballister and Nimona do leave the kingdom and go over the wall to find a new safe home. Years pass. The kingdom is more paranoid than ever because the queen killer and the monster were never caught and could presumably still live among them or return to cause more chaos.

The director decides one day that they need to take the fight to the monsters, strike first before they are stricken again. Knights are sent out beyond the wall to search the surrounding land and burn down the woods in order to “smoke the monsters out.” Destroying everything, trying to fight a monster that was never even there.

During one of these instances, Ambrosius and Ballister finally see each other again face to face for the first time in years since that fateful interaction at the institution. They’ve both changed, physically at least; Ambrosius’ hair is longer, Bal’s got some more grey streaks and a new arm upgrade. But underneath all of that they’re still the same, still got that lingering hurt and romantic feelings. Nimona is still the same as ever and hasn’t aged a day.

(Also idea that maybe there’s other small communities and people living outside the wall that Bal and Nimona ended up quietly settling down in. People who are far more open minded and accepting of others, and who are more concerned about the walled off kingdom with guns pointing at them than this nice guy and his cool daughter. That’s their neighbor and they’re not gonna let some knights storm in and cause trouble for him.)

Nimona and ROTTMNT crossover.

I want to say first that if you haven't seen @/hatekawa's Rottmnt Nimona AU, please go take a look. It is wonderful!

[Warning for ROTTMNT movie and Nimona spoilers]

It would be absolute chaos! I'm imagining it would be post-movie ROTTMNT, don't know why but that's just what came to mind. I think for Nimona it would be some point between Ballister and Nimona meeting and shortly after them exposing the Director.

Mikey and Nimona would be immediate friends I think.

Raph and Nimona would get along well, but I think the shapeshifting would be a little shocking at first for him. The rest of the turtles would go banana's over it and want her to transform into them while Raph just kind of screams internally.

I'm also thinking post-movie Raph would connect with Nimona a lot. It would have a pinch of angst because this would be Raph who's trying to feel like himself again after the Krang. Nimona reassuring Raph that he's still himself no matter what would just be so good. ;-;

And then there's Donnie who would just be invading Ballister's personal space constantly, not only to mess with his robot arm, but also he wants to steal Ballister's armor for his own aesthetic. Ballister's just trying not to freak out at there now being human-sized turtle people appearing out of nowhere.

Not pictured, but still causing trouble, is Leo running around like a maniac at the Institute and just creating all types of mischief for Ambrosius and the other knights.

*Explosions in the distance and smoke coming from the Institute building. Ballister suddenly getting a million texts and phone calls from Ambrosius about a rampaging lizard thing causing havoc by teleporting all over the place while screaming about doing it for the shits and giggles*

I got bored again, so for the third time, here are random things I noticed throughout my rewatch of Nimona.

As always, Nimona Spoilers!

To start off, a few people pointed out how the first time Nimona shows up on screen, we see her doing a graffiti of the word dumb. Also, rewatching some of the scenes, in the scene where she shows the new murder wall, you can make out the word "Nemesis" written over Ambrosius' picture. Also, if you look at the very top of the wall, we can see a drawing of Bal's prosthetic with flames coming out of it with the words "Literal Firearm" written under it. So, I rethought it, and realized Gloreth was probably the first human Nimona had ever seen (as far as we know), so Gloreth probably taught her to speak, write and read, except this was a thousand years ago, and language constantly evolves, and we can all agree that "From whence you came" and "Nemesis" aren't really phrases or words people seem to use. So, I think Nimona probably has some knowledge when it comes to reading and writing, both thanks to Gloreth and just picking up bits and pieces throughout those 1000 years, but she still has trouble when it comes to full on writing actual long phrases to create like an essay or something like a resume.

When she pins back Am's picture on the wall, we see a post it with "Disrupt the System" written and highlighted on it.

We get a hint that Nimona might be "Gloreth's monster" when we see a drawing of her in dragon form that kinda resembles the dragon we see at the beginning in the scrolls.

When Bal calls Nim a monster, there is literally a newspaper cut out on the wall next to him with his picture and the word "Monster" written on it.

We get a bit of insight on the type of pressure Ambrosius suffers from when we get back to the Institute. All the other knights seem to think it's his fault for not having stopped Bal from escaping, despite a whole horde of knights chasing after him and not one of them even coming close to stopping him from escaping either. The other knights, despite probably not knowing the full extent of it, seem to be aware of the close relationship between the two of them, putting him under even more pressure because of that small fact.

When the Director stops the fight between Ambrosius and Todd, she tells them; "Look at you, acting like common children." Reminder that everyone is fully aware that Bal was a commoner and is currently suspected to having killed the queen. She is basically telling them; "Those people are very clearly below us and one of them is a murderer and a villain, and yet you are acting like them."

When Am volunteers to lead the manhunt for Bal, we can clearly see him go slightly worried for Bal as Todd is talking about how he'll make Bal pay. He probably volunteered because he wanted to lessen the chances of Bal getting hurt.

Like I mentioned in another post, Nimona often tries to get Bal to understand that the Institute is filled lies, but not by directly telling him. She starts by giving little hints. One example of him is when she tries to tell him that maybe there's nothing over the wall. I talk about it more in this post.

Nimona is quick enough to go up an escalator that goes down, but a literal knight who has gone through harsh training isn't.

Todd knows that Am's hair smells like lavender. In flower language, lavender is associated with purity, silence, devotion, caution, serenity, grace and calmness. That sounds an awful lot like qualities the Institute would expect a direct descendant of Gloreth to posses, doesn't it?

I'll stop here, cause this is starting to get long.

Unrelated, but I decided to watch Nimona with my siblings (13, 7 and 5) and they all loved it. The best part for me was that my homophobic aunt watched the bit where Bal and Am kiss, started freaking out that I was pushing it onto them, and then my 13 years old brother just commented about how she kept forcing him to watch her romance movies with her and was always pushing him to "get a girlfriend for them to meet" and she just shut up and left. Just wanted to put that out there.

I love the movie Nimona it really spoke to me as a queer person and I absolutely adore all of the characters so I think I would like to see a drawing of Nimona's shark form🦈🩷 if it's not too much trouble (why do I feel like Nimona would own one of those Blåhaj Ikea sharks 🦈 ? Probably cause they are adorable😊)

Ballister leaned against Ambrosius, closing his eyes. “You sleepy, Bal?”

“Mhm.” Ballister rubbed his eyes. “I couldn't get to sleep last night. Kept having headaches and weird dreams.”

“That's no good, babe. Try to take it easy today. Do you think it's your head?”

“He just said it was his head, duh.” Nimona cut in. She'd been back for the past couple months, and she and Ambrosius were still getting used to each other. Ballister chuckled. “It's probably fine.” Ambrosius made a worried face.

Eight months ago, when Ballister was on the run, he'd suffered considerable head trauma, several times, one after another after another. The whole thing left Ballister with considerable brain damage in the frontal and temporal lobes especially. It was especially significant in the first few weeks after everything happened, when he was often unsteady on his feet, spoke with slurred speech, struggled with short term memory, understanding rapid or unclear speech, and extreme emotional outbursts where he would be extremely afraid, sad, angry, or happy without apparent cause. He'd also started having seizures at that time. Ambrosius learned to deal with them, but he always hoped each one would be Ballister's last. The doctor said they'd stop eventually, but they never knew when eventually would come.

Thankfully, since then, his brain had healed tremendously. Still, Ambrosius couldn't help but worry when Ballister had anything going on with his head.

“Alright, well, just be careful, okay? Don't strain yourself.” He kissed Ballister's cheek.

Nimona cackled. “Come on, Nemesis. I don't think the boss is gonna let some dumb headache slow him down! He's not made of glass, you know. He's ten percent solid steel and a hundred percent badass!”

“My arm makes up five percent of my weight, Nimona, also it's made of titanium.” Ballister smiled at her.

“See? Even cooler.” She returned to what she was doing and Ambrosius sighed. Maybe he was being a little overly anxious.

But as the day went on, Ballister seemed off. Foggy, distracted, a little bit uncharacteristically emotional or snippy sometimes. Even Nimona noticed, Ambrosius could see the puzzlement in her face even if she said nothing. It all came to a head later that day, they were at a park and they were noticed by members of the public, who started their usual barrage, asking frankly triggering questions and requesting photographs and signatures.

Ambrosius was used to all that, but while Ballister was somewhat accustomed to it, it always stressed him out. Ambrosius managed to fish his lover and Nimona away from the paparazzi and back to the safety of their vehicle.

“You guys alright?” Ambrosius started it up, flying through the airways. Ballister didn't answer, he glanced over. “Bal?”

His lover looked distant, blinking fast, looking around in a haze. “Do you, lemon?”

“What?” Oh shit. “Nimona, take his arm off!” Ambrosius began landing the vehicle in a safe place.

“What?” She looked quizzically from the backseat.

“Now! He's having a seizure, the prosthetic is wired to his nerves and muscle, the electrical signals can make it go nuts!”

Ballister knew a seizure was coming when he tasted lemon out of nowhere. They needed to get it together quickly, he was already having trouble speaking.

Quickly Nimona reached forward and disconnected the arm, and not a moment too soon. Ballister’s face twisted and his head began to jerk, along with his right leg, a rhythmic back and forth motion. Once Ambrosius was safely parked, he grabbed the blanket from the back seat and cushioned Ballister's head, and started a timer on his phone. A car was not the ideal place for this to happen, he wasn't completely sure of the protocol. Ballister was at least buckled, so he couldn't collapse into the dashboard. “It's okay, Bal.” He whispered softly. Everything will be okay.”

Nimona's eyes were wide with terror. After sixty-two seconds, Ballister went still, his eyes blearily gazing in front of him, foggy. Ambrosius stroked his hair. “It's over, love. It's over. You're okay.”

Nimona swallowed. “What happened to him?”

Ambrosius exited the vehicle and came around to open Ballister's door so he could more closely check up on him. He unbuckled him and helped him out of the car, supporting most of his weight. “Nimona, let me lay him in the back, he needs to lay on his side.”

Nimona moved out of the way. “What happened to him?”

Once Ballister was laid safely in a recovery position, Ambrosius sat beside the car and stroked his hair. “He had a seizure.”

“A seizure? I thought you had to be born with those. I've never seen him do this before.”

“He hit his head, a lot, after–” Ambrosius swallowed. “After what I did to him. It all added up, and left enough damage that this happens sometimes. Eventually it's supposed to go away, but we have no idea when. He's okay, he just won't be able to talk for a few minutes. Will you sit back here with him? Just make sure he's breathing okay, and try to comfort him while I drive home. Sometimes he gets a little emotional. You can give his arm back, too.” He swallowed. He wanted to comfort Ballister, but he needed to get them home safely. Ballister could recover better at home.

Nimona didn't seem to know what to do, but for once, she didn't argue. Ambrosius drove home hearing her speak softer than he ever had, in a reassuring voice.

When they got home, they managed to assist Ballister inside. He could now understand speech and get out a word here and there, but he was mostly disoriented and exhausted. Once Ambrosius checked that his breathing was normal, and he didn't have any severe bites in his mouth, he tucked him into their bed and let him rest, setting a timer to wake him up and check on him.

Nimona looked gaunt, she paced the living room.

“Aren't you a thousand years old? I thought you'd be used to things like seizures. This wasn't a bad one, thankfully. He's okay, you don't have to worry.” Ambrosius was a hypocrite. He was extremely worried.

She shook her head. “Not that, I mean, I've seen them before, they're normal, I've known thousands of people– but I didn't realize— I didn't realize someone could hurt their head so easily.” She whispered.

“What do you mean?”

She swallowed. “He got hit in the face with a rock when the Institute blew up. And I dragged him home. And I didn't even try to make sure he didn't hit his head! He was getting smacked into curbs left and right and– and I thought it was funny!” She rubbed her face. “I haven't been close with a human in so long, I forgot how fragile they were, how even something like that– it's partially my fault, don't you get it? I was careless and he hit his head and now he's suffering because of me.”

Ambrosius swallowed. Ballister told him about how Nimona said he'd hit his head on the curb when she took him home, and yes, it had contributed to several in a series of head injuries. He sat on the couch. “Nimona, it's not your fault. I knew about that. The doctor said the concussions hadn't helped, but most of the damage was from the debris, from Todd beating him up, and from when he fell through the stadium floor. It's just– how it is.”

Nimona sat on the couch beside him and sniffed. “You don't understand. I forgot how easily humans can be hurt. How easily they can die.”

“Oh…” Ambrosius looked down. “Well, for what it's worth, I don't think he'd be here at all if it wasn't for you. Humans are weak, but Ballister is strong. He's kind, resilient, and forgiving– I know that better than anyone. He's gonna be fine. Don't beat yourself up.”

Nimona sniffed and smiled at him. “Thanks, nemesis.”

My issues with the Nimona movie

!Read the webcomic before interacting with my post for a proper comparison and also because it's a genuine work of art!

I read Nimona when I was very young and before I knew and understood queer stuff. It resonated with me in a way few things have ever done and it was one of the first times a story was more than an escape. It was a reflection of my existence, an honest one. It was dark and gritty and there was no clear cut happily ever after or answers and I loved it!  The vast amount of themes present and the story’s wide focus in addition to the wild, loose art really captured my heart. The Nimona movie is distilled in comparison, with less ambiguity and exploration present. Changes either weren’t elaborated on enough (having the story take place in a more futuristic setting rather than the medieval ages is an interesting concept but its not utilized accordingly) or actually weakens the initial story.

Focusing on Blackheart and Goldenloin, the lifeblood of the series, in the webcomic the both of them came from the same Institution orphanage where they were raised ( with seemingly little choice in the matter) to be knights. ( In fact, funnily enough Ambrosius used to pretend to come from a noble lineage as a sort of defense mechanism which ended up getting him bullied.)  It’s how the duo connected in the first place and it’s also what tore them apart. The conspiracy wasn’t as grand and crazy as the movie's was; Ambrosius was considered the “better” type of knight candidate, the “good” type of lower class person; naïve, polite, conventionally attractive, didn't question things, had believed in the system from a young age, etc. So before a joust between Ballister and Ambrosius the Director came up to the latter with an explosive lace in order to guarantee Ambrosius’s victory. While initially refusing to use it, after being easily defeated by Ballister, Ambrosius loses his hold on things and presses the button, leading to Ballister losing his arm. The Institution being ableist as shit expels Ballister, believing there’s “no use for an one armed knight”, and all this leads to Blackheart being a villain. The situation is much more complex and messy than the movie presented and it’s from an intentional betrayal from Goldenloin.  A great example on how the disenfranchised often have to turn on each other to survive, on how people are evaluated by usefulness, and how those discarded by society often have nowhere else to turn to but crime. And while the affection between them is less apparent in the webcomic ( it’s very clear the romantic relationship always had to be kept secret) it’s still present throughout the entirety of the story. It’s in how the both of them refuse to kill each other, how they make sure the other is always safe, how Ambrosius always makes sure Ballister escapes, how they can casually meet up with each other, how it’s implied that a lot of the time Ambrosius has been going along with missions to make sure Ballister stays alive. But they’re also the birthers of these cutting lines of dialogue:

“ You wouldn’t kill me.”

“Yeah, and I’m supposed to be the villain. What does that make you?”

With all this in mind, the ending for them in the webcomic made me shed tears, because they’re scarred and hurt and things will never return to how it used to be and the future is so uncertain but change was made and things are better and with the Institution gone they can finally be together in whatever way fits them. I get none of this from the movie, everything that was compelling and complex about the relationship between Ballister and Ambrosius was taken away for something more simpler and palatable.

Now for Nimona, who’s always been a representation of queer rage but a queer rage that isn’t rational or pretty or always justified. She loves chaos and destruction and killing people, in comparison to Blackheart who, while causing trouble himself, doesn’t want to hurt people, especially for the sake of it.  Nimona wants to reflect her hurt onto the world and she was initially interested in Blackheart because she thought he was the ruthless villain society made him out to be. But even when he isn’t that Nimona still genuinely cares for Ballister and also wants to stop the Institution at any cost, especially once learning  how they treated him. Nimona’s also playful and creative and emotional and she likes games and pranks and pizza. Nimona is a kid, including with, and not despite, her actions and powers, something even Ambrosius acknowledges as an example of his turn against the Institution. Still, there is genuine reason for Blackheart to doubt Nimona, with her penchant for violence and  her lying about her backstory and her keeping her motivations hidden, though it is her right to keep those aspects of her identity private. Nimona’s origin is meant to be unclear and the audience is supposed to be left wondering about her to the very end of the story along with Ballister, learning with the characters that the exact details don’t matter in application to who Nimona is as a person and her right to be a person, even if she isn’t entirely human or human at all.

The movie definitely smoothed over Nimona’s more sharp edges, shaped her rage in something more focused and applicable, and ( excuse the word choice) overall took the magic away from her. And the experimentation she’s been forced through, one of the only solid facts known about Nimona and one of the things that's unfortunately defined her, isn’t explored at all. The Institution was interested in her and what her powers could be harnessed for,  highlighting the nature of capitalism and the concept “ continued innovation and development no matter the cost” much better than the movie does.

Disappointingly, who isn’t covered at all is Dr. Meredith Blitzmeyer, a poc scientist who dabbles in magic and likes combining her fields of interest together.  A positive example of innovation and invention in the series, someone who creates for the sake of it and the learning process but never puts her work above others and offers it up to help people. She’s a great aid and confidant to Blackheart, who encourages his interests and acts as a support system. They even set up a laboratory together in the epilogue, plus there’s absolutely no romantic chemistry built up between the duo, just platonic male and female friends! 

For such an important character not to be included is a waste of potential and representation. 

And I know changes had to be made to update the 5+ year old webcomic material and in order to fit the medium of a movie ( if it had been an episode series, for example, I think the adaptation would be closer to the source material) and Nate himself wanted to edit stuff to fit his current vision. It’s not like the movie is bad either and I understand why people enjoy it, especially with all the representation ( genderfluid Nimona finally being canon made me so happy too, believe me).  

But I just can’t enjoy the movie. It just makes me mad and sad. I will always prefer the source material and refer to it for content. That’s it.

I watched Nimona the other day and absolutely loved it!!!!!! The story was so incredibly touching, I will freely admit that I cried at The Hand Bit. It was a joy to watch the characters develop, the art style was AMAZING, I just loved it so so much!!!!

The only possible fault I could find is the rather obvious character naming. “Hmm, how do I establish that this dude is The (Conventional) Chosen One, descended from a member of royalty that is worshipped to the point of divinity? I know, I’ll call him Ambrosius Goldenloin!” Its like if your protagonist, who everyone hated for being the first dark-skinned non-noble knight, was given the last name Blackheart- oh wait! I’m sorry, but I cannot take a character called Ambrosius Goldenloin 100% seriously. I say this, but I want to clarify that it didn’t impact my enjoyment of the movie at all.

However, it was extremely refreshing to see a Chosen One that was neither the protagonist or a villain. Normally they are the Hero, or the well-meaning villain that fights to uphold the corrupt society that worships them. Ambrosius is, at his heart, kind. Even when he thinks that Ballister killed the Queen, when face to face with him after he escaped prison, his reaction isn’t “oh no! Dangerous Queen Killer is loose! I’m confused that my boyfriend is suddenly evil, so I’m channeling my emotions into sword-swinging rage!”. He is so clearly torn; he watched it happen right in front of him, and everyone around him that he trusts thinks that Ballister is a murderer, but he cannot bring himself to believe that Ballister could ever do such a thing. His face, in that moment, is anguish, confusion, betrayal, heartbreak - not rage. He wants to forgive him, so so much. Even later, when leaning into the “queer people Nimona is a monster who’s brainwashing you” rhetoric, he did so out of a place of such deep love and kindness that he was willing to go against The Director and the regime that he dedicated his whole life to in order to give his boyfriend another chance when no-one else would.

The character of Nimona herself? Perfect. Brilliant. Amazing. She can shapeshift and chooses not to look like a size 0 model, but a normal person with cool hair/ piercings and a grin that’s just a little bit too shark-like? Perfect. My little genderfluid chaos gremlin and I love her. On a more serious note, the LGBTQ+ themes conveyed through her character are so heart-achingly relatable; I don’t think I’ve ever felt this seen by a piece of media. I know it’s a bit of a cliche/ cringy thing to say, I’ve always thought so, but I GET IT NOW. When in response to terrified “what are you?”s, a simple “I’m Nimona” - you’re not entitled to an explanation of who I am. Ballister just saying “metal” with a smile, upon learning that she can breathe fire - someone accepts and loves you, unconditionally, finally. Sometimes enjoying when people see you as a monster, enjoying causing a bit of mischief and trouble, but also wanting to be seen as human. The main ideological difference between her and Ballister, especially: he wants to assimilate and be seen as a normal human, but she wants to destroy the society that created a “normal” that excludes and punishes her for something outside of her control - the argument between assimilate vs. keep queer spaces separate from cishet ones is one that has been debated for decades.

In the end, Ballister and Nimona swap roles: he realises the corrupt foundations of his society and wants to dismantle it, but she is done fighting; she’s tired, and hurt, and fought for CENTURIES, but gotten nowhere, and what’s the point of it all anyway, it’ll never work, it never does. She just wants to be seen as human. She spirals into a deep, deep pit of rage and anguish. What’s the worst that will happen, anyway? Everyone already sees her irredeemably as a monster. And when Ballister calms her, with just one hand and a few comforting words, she collapses. The fight is gone from her. She’s just a hurt, scared, tired little kid who desperately needs a hug.

The best villains (imho) are the ones who are relatable, who you can understand how they got to where they are, who scare you not through irredeemable acts, but through worries that in that situation, you would do the same - The Director is a prime example of this. Her ultimately fatal flaw is her fear of change; this is the way it is, and the way it has been for the past 1000 years, and it works perfectly well, so why change? Keep everything the way it is now, no matter the cost, and everything will keep running smoothly. She objects to Ballister ever becoming a knight, because it’s Not How Things Are Done. Change in tradition means unpredictability, it means things might go wrong. And if things go wrong? Well, you’ve heard the stories of what’s on the other side of the wall, we CAN’T risk things going wrong. She serves the system in rhe name of the ‘greater good’, and any price is worth paying, even the murder of the figurehead of the system itself. It boils down to ‘at the end, she decides to fire the laser (and kill herself) rather than face the fact that she was wrong and deal with the consequences’]

This has become a whole analysis! Wow! I only wanted to make a snarky comment about the name Ambrosius Goldenloins, but here we are! Of course, this is not intended to be a full character breakdown, or even entirely comprehensible, I am currently not in the best of health and very tired and this is really just a drabble of admiration for a film that I very much enjoyed that got out of hand. I’m not very good at conclusions/ signing off or whatever, but I don’t want to ramble. Hello sorry to bother you with this all of sudden ,and this might be coming out of nowhere, and I’m not trying to force you or be pushy but I m trying to get more people into this show with great potential. If your not interested it’s fine but Have you heard of or watched moon girl and devil dinosaur? Season 2 comes out tomorrow February 2. 

The main character i love she gives me autistic vibes I’m autistic. The show has interesting characters, action ,great music, and animation ,good themes and representation, Anime references, it even has an eyecatch season 2 is going to be more story driven if you find that interesting. It also shares the same animation studio as rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles.

It be good if you watch the first 2 season 2 episode when they air so the ratings will be higher. And watch the other season 2 episodes when they air.

I think Disney might be trying to sabotage the show with them probably dropping 14 episodes on Disney + on February 3. They did similar with season 1 and the ratings where low ,please watch season 2 episodes when they air on. But more importantly also watch it on Disney + on feb 3 and when they air it on YouTube. Unfortunately they are dropping 14 episodes on Disney + so watch them all in one day but also when they air the first time.

I’m not just saying only cable just also. I’m saying please support this show. Despite that it still won 5 Emmys. Also if it’s no trouble could if it alright with you spread the word about this show to others you know like either online or irl. Time is limited!

I'm not surprised Disney is trying to sabotage this show. I don't know if you've seen the Netflix movie Nimona, but Disney was helping make this, but dropped it because two of the main characters are gay and dating, and another character gives the nonbinary and genderfluid great representation. But Disney got karma thrown at them cause Nimona got nominated for an animation award.

I've seen similar stuff being addressed about how Nimona had to see a whole city being built to protect itself from her specifically, but I still want to address something, which is about the development of technology.

Think about it. Nimona is, at least, 1000 years old, and may be older. The first true contact she has with humans goes wrong, and there starts the building of the wall, the Institute, yada yada yada. But the thing is, she is inside the walls with the rest of the people, and through 1000 years, she has had to try to blend in and adapt to all new things.

She watched the people slowly discover electricity, phones, cars, guns, video games, movies, flying cars! And she was able to adapt to all that!

People who grew up in like the 1950-60's have trouble adjusting to today's technology, and yet she is the equivalent of someone who was born in the early 1900's and lived to see everything grow to today.

And not only that, but most things were aimed against her as well! Advertisements for cereal or board games were about slaying her (Slaying your hunger (With Kwispy Dwagon) and slaying monsters to earn points (The game we see the kids play in the advertisement at the end)).

Even the movies! In the zombie movie she and Bal are watching, they're talking about them being "immortal and invincible creatures" and are scared of them so they attack! Everything, from the board games to the weapons are advertised against her! The city was built to protect itself against her! Everything was built because of the fear she caused!

So yeah, just another reason to feel bad for this sad gremlin child we all love.

1: Veronica! She/They/It. That's Me :3c I view myself as like... part digital gal inhabiting various sizes of mousebot chassis, part Nimona-Esque shapeshifter to match my chaotic and ever changing mood. I'm the like main one of us here forever probably. Veronica.exe, here to infect tons of devices but only to cause minor mischief and also be your biggest cheerleader

2: Lyssa! She/They. She's my non-religious Guardian Angel. She did Fall but she's restored now. She says like... when things need a Guardian Angel, they just appear and do their best to safeguard the thing that needed them. She's all formal and slightly grumpy, but she looks out for me and helps me handle life and my health and mental illness and stuff.

3: Drizzle! She/Her. She's a sweet and quiet little blue and yellow bunny girl. She reminds me to be kinder and nicer and softer. Also she's very autistic and loves bunnies more than I love mushrooms. She has troubles speaking out loud, and is selectively mute. Most of the time she just quietly watches everything. She's bunny4bunny with only one exception.

4: Clover! She/Her. She's a hyperactive, 0 impulse control, horny party girl of a Fallen Guardian Angel foxgirl. Also the only cis girl in our system. She failed to protect what she was supposed to cause responsibility isn't her thing, and I guess she's just here now? She's quiet and sleeps a lot cause she doesn't like how much responsibility is in our life. When she's up though she's pretty fun, if tiring. She pushes me to be a little more hedonistic and worry less about being so focused and working too hard all the time.

5: Ash! She/Her. She's a black and dark blue furred victorian goth bunnygirl. She does very little of her own accord, and will usually only speak if she's bribed with berries. She's Drizzle's sister. She likes sitting in the shade on a warm and sunny day, eating sour things, and listening to exactly two songs. She holds a lot of our trauma memories and emotions, but is slowly giving them back to me when she feels I'm ready for it.

just wanted to try drawing in the nimona style (BECAUSE IT’S SOOO CUTE) but the more I thought about it the more I realized nimona and qsmp guapoduo’s story line up. Kinda Well Actually. Almost Too Well. This is what happens when I watch other media while watching QSMP things get wacky LMAOOOO

I was debating between making nimona au of a wider struggle with the Federation/Institute like we have in QSMP to include more characters or to just stick closely to the movie with limited characters… I think both Nimona aus could be interesting but for now I’ll just work with the movie bc I had such a clear idea in mind LOL

BELOW the read more is SPOILERS FOR ALL OF NIMONA. if you have Netflix, i recommend giving it a watch I enjoyed it quite a bit, good art, cute story! Basically the au is just the movie plot if you replaced some characters with qsmp + the art I made to go along with it

Cellbit - Ballister, perfect because he goes through a similar thing with trying to earn the Federation’s trust, and trying to earn the islander’s trust in his traitor situation going on. And also Cucurucho would totally frame him for crimes LOLLLL. And also the situation with him being framed to kill King Abueloier is just a perfectly fitting situation and also getting his arm cut off. By a chainsaw. So he matches Richas now. I think instead of roier it would be abueloier who cuts his arm off I think, in a last ditch effort to stay alive, or maybe Roier deserves to cut off some arms idk. I think Ballister’s noble ideals really align with Cellbit’s, but also Cellbit would probably be a little more aggressive than Ballister is in the movie when stressed, I.e Fugo Impossivel Cellbit. ALSO HE ALREADY HAS THE DARK KNIGHT AESTHETIC IN QSMP

Roier - Ambrosius, perfect because Roier used to be really buddy buddy with the Federation and with Cucurucho but because of Bobby and Cellbit started to view them as more sinister. I think that both his arcs of trusting cellbit even through his traitor arc and distrusting cellbit because he murdered his grandpa are well-reflected in Ambrosius’ arc in the film. In this version of the movie Nimona (Bobby and Richas) and Ambrosius interact more because even though they’re little monsters the Bobby-Richas bond with Roier is too good. The only reason I was at first considering Roier for Ballister is because of the Ballister-Nimona bond but like Cellbit fits the role so much better.

Richas and Bobby - Both Nimona, somehow. Little dragon shapeshifters that cause trouble, constantly bicker, and just want to be loved. Bobby, of course, fits Nimona a little bit better with their temperaments but I feel the fatherly-son bond between Richas and Cellbit is too good to pass up. Also Richas is definitely capable of anarchy.

Idk, Tilin?? - Gloreth. Honestly any of the egg kids reskinned to just be regular children would work for this (Pomme? Tallulah?? Leo because Roier-Leo family relation?) , but I don’t think any of them would betray Bobby and Richas lol.

Jaiden - The squire. Because I feel she would accidentally witness a planned assassination and try to warn about it but fail and just be burdened with knowledge LOL. And, another change from the movie, during the kidnapping of Jaiden she bonds with Bobby and becomes part of the found family too.

Cucurucho - The Director. Because it hates Cellbit, likes to keep order, and wants to kill the eggs. Self explanatory!

The Institute - The Federation. Similar color schemes, similar control over the populace!

Abueloier - King/Queen + that jerk Todd guy. It’s perfect, he gets killed in the opening scene of the movie and you know Roier is like “how could you do this”. I feel that Abueloier and Cellbit had an ok dynamic at first that just worsened until Cellbit um. Killed him. So maybe that happens here too except this time Cellbit didn’t actually kill him and the royal sword was rigged by Cucurucho.

And Bobby actually dies at the end so there’s only Richas left. To keep it in canon. : ). Pain. He’s a hero though so. I Guess It’s Okay.

2. What’s a classic work of literature that you’d consider yourself a fan of?

Hm.... Does The Haunting of Hill House count as a classic work of literature? I suspect no. The Bell Jar?? The Left Hand of Darkness?? Strange Pilgrims by Gabriel Garcia Marquez?? I've read Pride and Prejudice, which I suspect is the closest to what is meant by 'classic' here, and I admire Austen's writing but it's not really the first thing I think of when asked what I'm a fan of. Sorry, this answer's kind of boring, turns out I'm not much of a classics person!

4. Do you have a crack ship? Explain them to me.

I... don't think so? I have trouble framing character relationships as shipping even to myself? Just in general? Like. It just doesn't occur to me that I might want to do that. And I don't think it's as if I don't ship people, more that someone says the word shipping to me and my mind goes totally blank. So. You can imagine how it's even worse when I try to think of a crack ship I might have. Wow, two in a row for Answers That Aren't That Fun -- let's see if we can make it three >:]

Ooh... Nimona! By ND Stevenson. I just glanced to the side at my bookshelf and saw this and went, "Ah, yes, found family, magic powers, sweet and silly and sad. Perfect." It's a graphic novel about a shape-shifting girl (Nimona) who wriggles her way into the life of a villain by the name of Ballister Blackheart. The two of them team up to cause some trouble with a group called the Institute, Ballister might have a bit of A Thing going on with the hero of the Institute, and Nimona makes me real fucking sad every time I read it.

13. Praise an obscure favourite character.

Oh boy oh god oh okay!! I'm giving you this answer with the full knowledge that it'll change again within a month or two, probably. Pixlriffs! From the Minecraft series Empires SMP (Season 2)! I mean, I assume I'll like him in season 1 as well, but I haven't watched that yet. He's just... so enchanting to me as a character concept. And specifically as a Minecraft character concept?

Right, okay, so. He's an archaeologist. He pulls entire cities out of the past. He lives alone in a warren of ancient catacombs. He can see, as holograms, the places that overgrown ruins used to be. In a series that is so much about not being able to escape the past, he's, like, a walking thematic capstone, and that's just so. I am a moth to a flame about that. But also. He's so fucking funny as a character and everything I aspire to be. He's the definition of "friendly and competent guy that everyone takes for granted as The Normal One but then it turns out that no, he's as batshit weird as the rest of them"!! He's really nice! Utterly unflappable! One time he ripped up a guy's carpet because his favourite shiny rock got stolen!

But the actual thing I haven't been able to stop thinking about is. Pixlriffs The Actual Guy Who Makes The Videos (as opposed to Pixlriffs The Character) is making a point this season of not really doing a character arc or a central plot for his character? On a Doylist level, this is so The Actual Guy can stick to what he's more comfortable with: being in the background doing work to support other people's stories -- The Actual Guy himself describes it as kind of being like a DM. But on a Watsonian level? All of this is so. He builds ruins and structures and dots them across the landscape for the other players to find. He guides them to plot hooks interesting sites and suggests they talk to each other when there's thematic parallels in their stories they have problems in common. I keep thinking about the line from the End Poem: and the universe said you are the universe tasting itself, talking to itself, reading its own code / and the universe said I love you because you are love. And. The idea of a person who is here specifically to act as a mouthpiece for the history of the world, to speak on a past that -- on the level of the game -- doesn't exist. The idea of Pix being in some ways very much his own person but in others acting out the will or narrative of a place overflowing with those things and unable to express them. Like the universe itself saw these people telling stories and building homes and living lives with so much care and love and went, Yes, let me help. Yes, I love you, here is another story, tell it with me. Yes, let me play the game with you.
