The anon who sent an ask a bit back where I dug through Eret's blog for the source of the "everything gets planned in exclusionary group dms" post and I just. I was remembering a convo I had with a friend when that was posted that made our blood boil because like.
OK so Niki had lore planned for the same day as either the green festival or Doomsday (Jan 5th or 6th 2021) that she had to reschedule because she GENUINELY DIDN'T KNOW that there was a server wide event that day. Which means Niki, who while not a Founder of L'Manberg, sure had been around and a part of lore for a long ass time atp and who had helped rebuild it and who's character was invested In L'Manberg for months.
Was likely not invited. To participate in planning. The death of L'Manberg.
Meaning at least ONE PERSON likely didn't okay her builds being destroyed in advance or any in game progress being set back or any of her in game pets being killed. And if one person who still had to fuckin. You know. Show up to the stream after being not told SHIT. How many other smaller streamers were treated the same? I don't mean like the guests, I mean ccs who just weren't as "important" who's work on server was constantly steamrolled for lore without their advanced okay? Honestly ik that Niki dropped the DSMP for the new world because she didn't like how they treated Techno's memory and she was tired of being The GirlTM but like. Good for u honey get out of there they do NOT respect you.
God you're SO right anon like so many smaller CCs were treated like shit just bc they didn't get enough views or were just set aside bc they're just there as. Idk. Diversity. Like people would mention Nikki and Puffy and Ponk as a way to argue that the dsmp wasn't just white guys yet look at how they were treated
This isn't lore related but this ask reminded me of ponk replying to someone saying they want to see his reaction to the face reveal and ponk saying she would've loved to have been able to react. Like the fact that dream had face revealed to literally fucking any big content creator he could think of but had skipped Ponk????? Who has been there since the start???? If you can think of face timing Addison Rae and then forget to call someone who is like. One of the original members of the server iirc, that's questionable as fuck.
Anyway, It's obvious he doesn't care about the smaller creators at all. And the way they have been treated by him, his friends and the stans really is upsetting.

Digital Warfare: US 🇺🇸 And China 🇨🇳 Go Head To Head In Cyberspace

As the start of the new year sees Israel’s war on Gaza rage on, the US faces an ongoing battle in the cyber realm back home.
According to one survey by Gallup and Knight Foundation, trust in US media is so low that half of Americans believe national news outlets deliberately mislead them.
This rise in distrust is a common global pattern, with the UK having the second lowest levels of media trust according to a study of 24 countries by King’s College London. Held as part of the World Values Survey, just 13% of British respondents expressed confidence in the press.
Meanwhile, news consumption on social media is only growing, with data showing a third of Americans under the age of 30 now get their news on TikTok.
2023 saw the White House ramp up its efforts to manage the Chinese-owned tech giant, which has over 150 million users in the States, the highest of any country globally.
In March, platform CEO Shou Zi Chew even appeared before Congress, in an attempt to dispel allegations over the app’s collection of sensitive user data, as well as censorship of any content that goes against China’s Communist Party.
It’s all slightly ironic, considering the intense regulatory crackdown on domestic tech companies by Chinese authorities in 2020, which even saw e-commerce site Alibaba fined $2.8 billion in a landmark antitrust case in 2021.

The Asian nation’s technology sector has since conformed to new regulations, much like the control US officials perhaps wish to instill over TikTok.
In December, US presidential primary Nikki Haley publicly condemned the platform. She says: “We really do need to ban TikTok once and for all. For every 30 minutes that someone watches TikTok every day, they become 17% more antisemitic, more pro-Hamas.”
Her statements have since been debunked by Generation Lab, the data company behind the survey she references. However, it does beg the question of why TikTok faces greater reprimand when, for instance, Silicon Valley-owned Meta has already been proven to systematically censor Palestinian content in a review by Human Rights Watch.
So then, one must ask, is the real concern about data protection or threats to Silicon Valley business interests, or maybe even anti-Israeli sentiment in general?
While Instagram saw a decent growth of 47.8% between 2020 to 2022, TikTok doubled its user base. According to polling data shared by Axios, the majority of these users express pro-Palestinian sentiment. This is especially frequent among young people on the platform.
The tech giant has confirmed this natural trend, emphasising a need to listen to users: “This is a really difficult time for millions of people around the world and in our TikTok community.”
“We feel it’s important to meet with and listen to creators, human rights experts, civil society and other stakeholders to help guide our ongoing work to keep our global community safe.”

So, would the North American giant really ban TikTok? And if they did, would more countries follow suit? TikTok was banned in India in 2020 over claims of illegal data collection. This occurred shortly after geopolitical tensions at the border between India and China.
The video-sharing app was also slapped with a $368 million fine by the European Union for data beaches in the same year.
However, the company has since taken steps on advancing data security in partnership with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. According to TikTok U.S. Data Security, as of June 2022, 100% of US user traffic is now routed to the US-based computer software company.
As for the question of censorship, visiting fellow Michael Kwet at Yale Law School’s Information Society Project believes: “There’s no reason to believe TikTok will offer substantially more diverse views across the global media landscape”.
In an interview with Al Jazeera, he says: “When confronted with content moderation decisions, TikTok will do what all big social media companies do: remove content at the request of entities with power, so long as it becomes too costly to disobey.”
In the midst of Israel's ongoing aggression in the besieged Gaza Strip, alongside rampant misinformation and media bias - one thing is clear: access to honest, independent journalism centred on human values, not corporate, is needed like never before.

Republicans Battle Cold in Iowa with Big Poll Setting the Tone
A highly anticipated poll set the tone for a final full day of campaigning in ice-cold Iowa on Sunday, with Donald Trump maintaining a big lead and Nikki Haley overtaking Ron DeSantis for second place in the Republican presidential race.
The Des Moines Register/NBC News poll released late on Saturday gave Trump 48%, though his lead slipped by 3 percentage points from the December poll. Former South Carolina Governor Haley was second at 20%, up 4 points, followed by Florida Governor DeSantis with 16%, down 3 points.
Organizers of the poll pride themselves on taking an accurate snapshot of the mood of Iowa voters.
The survey provided a strong indication that Trump was poised to do well in Monday's caucuses, the first voting contest on the road to the presidential election in November.
A victory would give Trump, 77, an important big step toward securing the Republican nomination to face the Democratic incumbent, Joe Biden, 81, in a rematch of their 2020 battle. It would be evidence that many Republicans are willing to look past Trump's mounting legal problems and inflammatory rhetoric.
Trump plans a Sunday rally in Indianola, a suburb of the capital Des Moines, but the weather forced him to cancel one in the city of Cherokee. The former president canceled two events on Saturday, appearing in the evening on a campaign livestream.
"We are leading by a lot in all the polls and you have to get out," Trump told his supporters. "We need to send a message most importantly for November."
DeSantis and Haley, who was Trump's U.N. ambassador, both need to do well enough in Iowa to give them some momentum for the next contest, in New Hampshire on Jan. 23.
The DeSantis campaign predicted a strong performance on Monday night, despite the slip in the widely watched poll.
"Winning campaigns don’t rely on public data. Most importantly, no one has worked harder and is better organized than Ron DeSantis," spokesman Andrew Romeo said.
Their battle increasingly bitter, Haley and DeSantis begin Sunday in Dubuque in the east of the state near the Mississippi River, followed by another DeSantis event around 300 miles (500 km) away in Sioux City.
From 7 p.m. CST on Monday (0100 GMT on Tuesday), Iowans will gather for two hours in school gymnasiums, bars and other locations to debate the Republican candidates before ranking them in order of preference.
Results are typically announced within a few hours.
With temperatures plunging, one question facing the candidates was whether their supporters would be sufficiently motivated to brave the cold and show up to caucus.
Forecasters predict the coldest Iowa caucus night ever - minus 20 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 30 degrees Celsius).
DeSantis, speaking at an event in West Des Moines on Saturday, urged people to make the effort.
“It’s not going to be pleasant,” he said. “But if you’re willing to go out there and you’re willing to fight for me... then as president I’ll be fighting for you for the next eight years.”
Voters like Michelle Mahoney, a 58-year-old businesswoman from West Des Moines, gave hope to the Trump challengers.
She said she voted for Trump twice but finds the former president divisive and plans to caucus for either Haley or DeSantis.
"I'd be thrilled if we could have DeSantis or Haley," she said at a DeSantis campaign event.
Mahoney likes DeSantis' military service and says his leadership during Hurricane Ian in 2022 was "fabulous." She views Haley as a unifier.
Trump, president from 2017 to 2021, was doing well despite a host of issues.
He continues to claim that his 2020 loss to Biden was due to widespread fraud and has vowed if elected again to punish his political enemies, introduce new tariffs and end the Ukraine-Russia war in 24 hours, without saying how, according to his own comments, those of his campaign and media reports.
He has drawn criticism for increasingly authoritarian language that has echoes of Nazi rhetoric, including comments that undocumented immigrants were "poisoning the blood of our country."
Trump has used charges of unlawfully trying to overturn his 2020 election loss to fundraise and boost his support among Republican voters and elsewhere, and claim a "witch hunt" as he protests his innocence.
He faces four prosecutions, setting up the unprecedented prospect of a president being convicted or even serving from behind bars, with the courts almost certainly weighing in at every stage.
DeSantis, who has tacked to the right of Trump especially on issues such as education and LGBTQ rights, has staked a huge amount on a strong performance in Iowa with associates of his saying he needs to finish at least second.

author’s notes: i just missed writing and i missed mags! i love mags. i realized while i was creating her character that i needed to be smart to show off her smartness so i just tend to focus on her emotions. she has a lot of em. anyway, this is a four-parter. five, if i’m not lazy. based off of this thing i made that i later realized i didn’t like as much as i did rip :/
June 2021.
On an old, faux-maple table that the Romeros had procured from an estate sale a few blocks over, Mags began to write away. Somewhat mindlessly, but her best sessions came from when she was feeling her lowest. So off she wrote!
About her school year. About people she loved, and people she might end up loving. Even people she’d think she could end up loving if the circumstances were right. It went down like a list: her parents, her grandparents, her cousin Nikki, then the people she had met at Gallagher. And that one was a table all on its’ own. There was Ria, there was Willow, Val, Sunny, Ruby…
“Mom, can I just help you put some dishes out or something?”
“No, honey. Just sit. Take a rest. You must be exhausted.” And the young girl looked up to her mother, Felicia, giving her a sly wink as the older woman moved around the kitchen to take care of this and that. Wafting through the air was the smell of fried lumpia, being pushed around by a sunny afternoon in Washington D.C. The family had opted to keep the windows open, heat emanating from the food frying, the rice cooking on the counter, and the warmth in Magdalena’s cheeks as she thought about the night before.
Being an only child can suck sometimes. Mags knows that her parents know that as a young woman of her age, attending college quite a distance away from them, away from their protectiveness...it was only normal to go to parties and drink.
And Beyonce’ was there, so if you asked Mags, there was no regret whatsoever. Even if she was as exhausted as her mother says she is.
“You know, your Lola had called me up this morning.” Miguel Romero had started to put the last of the lumpia on a bowl, ready to be served, as he went on. “She said she’ll be flying to the Philippines for two months. There’s some..family stuff that needs to be looked over.”
Felicia raised a brow, “Well, that’s the first I’ve heard of that. What kind of family stuff, my love?”
The older man shrugged. “It’s nothing too important. Well, that’s not true. Just..real estate. Some land that may or may not belong to us. Who knows? That’s the whole reason she needs to be there. And hey--” He set the bowl down on the table. “Maybe some of it does belong to our family and we’re lucky and we can say that we own land back there. And when I say ‘we’, I really mean my mom. But part of the family’s properties nonetheless.”
Mags could only nod, still scribbling away as she mentally notes to add some doodles and pictures to her journal pages after their late lunch was over. “I sure hope it’s ours. Otherwise, Lola would be wasting a trip. Also, at her age, I don’t think flying would be ideal. Especially flying commercial and cheap. It’s scary!” Cue the interesting times she had running from one terminal to another for her flights to the Berlin internship. “People can be rude too. Flying is not for the weak.”
“Mags, your grandmother is just pushing eighty. And your cousin Nikki is going with her, seeing as she has all those points saved up. I’m sure they’re as comfortable as they can be.” Miguel reassured her before taking his seat and sighing. “Of course, I would’ve loved to come. But there’s work to be done here. Your mom and I have a case that we need to tend to.”
Her ears perked up at that. She theorizes that the more time she spent at Gallagher, the more nosy she became. Though maybe she could class up the terminology just a bit. Nosy could be called observant. And easy as it came, she could put that down on her curriculum vitae and call it a day. “A case?”
Felicia sent her daughter a smile. Part comforting, part .. mystery, if you asked Mags. There were ways her mother could smile at her and she wouldn’t really know how to feel. “Nothing too big. But it is tedious, so we can’t spend as much time with you as we’d like, honey.”
Miguel grunted. “Part of me wishes I was retired so we could at least enjoy you during the summer. I mean, you might keep chugging along after you graduate from Gallagher and we wouldn’t even have spent a single month with you.” Though the older man knew that it is what it is; him and Felicia had things they needed to do while Mags could pretty much go wherever. Their only comfort was that, in the midst of all this, Mags could experience a normal life.
One without near-fatal home invasions, people her age being poisoned and having their lives cut short, or fellow students dying from organizations that hunted people like her down. That last one was a doozy; Felicia had broken some oaths in telling him that one. A necessity and just plain common sense, as the two were married and would continue to be for the rest of their lives. Felicia tells Miguel, Miguel tells Felicia, and sometimes Mags would be told things. Sometimes. That’s how it worked.
Before he could pick up a piece of food, Miguel eyed his wife as she sat down. Felicia responded by giving him a puzzled look; Mags being none the wiser as she finished up the paragraph she had been writing. Miguel gave one knowing grunt and gestured towards their daughter.
As the realization dawned upon her, Felicia cleared her throat and waited until Mags had her journal closed before she spoke. “Honey, since we can’t spend time with you this summer, your dad and I were thinking that you could..stay over at your grandma’s farm.”
Mags blinked before taking a glance at her parents. One on each side of her, with her brain only running through multiple possible responses before uttering a single: “Huh?”
“To be fair, there are still some keepers left at the farm. You know, there’s the people that tend to the lands and the cattle, and the house. Just .. I – W-we, don’t really know of any other place that we feel you’d be safe in. Your mom and I know each and every one of your Lola’s farm keepers. They’re like family as well.”
“Well..--” “And before you ask, no, my side of the family..no. I mean, you’ve met them and they’re nice, but ..I just don’t want you wrapped up in what they’ve got going on. It’s..too much. Your uncle is trying to run for mayor in their little town and I just don’t want you within their circle. Politics can be very dangerous.”
Mags looked down at her journal, closed up and buckled. Worn over by the many times she’s opened it up to write, dropped it down in a hurry to get to her next class, thrown it down on floor of the science labs every time she got frustrated (to her mentor’s displeasure, she was sure), and the sleepless nights she’d studied for one or more tests. The droplets of tears that adorned both the cover and several paragraph-riddled pages as she thought of the worst when it came to her grades, to her friends, to the rejections she’d experienced, both professionally and personally.
Even through two whole years at Gallagher and the many times she’d picked up her head from the toilet after a night of drunken fun at one of Gallagher’s many events, Mags still felt like she did years ago. She was good, she followed the rules, and she could count the amount of tension-filled confrontations she’s had with one hand.
And maybe part of her was delusional, but it was her summer before her third year. Her first year at Gallagher after Laura Sutton had resigned, for better or for worse.
She could envision herself at her dorm window, looking down at the incoming class of first years and wonder where the last two years had went. Because she could swear it was just yesterday that she was arranging her plants by her dorm’s window, thinking about the many ways her first years could end. And how none of it lived up to what actually happened.
“Mags?” Her mother urged, a hand reached out to grasp her shoulder. “What do you think?”
She tapped her fingers on her journal’s buckle and gave a small smile. “I guess I could do months on my own at Lola’s farm. Could be a good experience for me.”

Important that they are not romantically involved yet because Will still hasn’t fully gotten over Mike’s outburst. Jonathan is still wary of Mike despite Will forgiving him
Romantic tension is rebuilt over the following episodes
During the climax of main plot there is a Byler kiss (maybe Mike does it to save Will or vice versa)
Also side non-byler details: all the other gay characters get to actually call themselves gay or lesbian, and Robin gets a girlfriend. Mike gets more character development other than “boyfriend guy” and Eleven decides that she doesn’t need a man, or anybody.

As much as everybody's justifiably railing on Chris Pratt for his acting, after watching the new trailer I honestly don't think Anya Taylor-Joy is a very good fit for Peach either. The problem isn't that they're bad actors, it's that they are not voice actors. When I hear Anya's or Chris's voice I don't picture Peach and Mario, I picture two regular adult people who wouldn't stand out in a coffee shop. Which isn't the point of animated movies and voice acting! ESPECIALLY with Mario! This is supposed to be a movie about cartoonish characters in a video game fantasy world saving the day, and their voices should fit with that theme. That's why Charles Martinet's Mario voice works so well, because it makes sense for what Mario is supposed to be. This trend of giving voice acting specific jobs to non-voice actors who have no experience with this kind of work is detrimental to animation and film! It is removing job opportunities from people who have spent their lives learning this craft and handing it over to a celebrity with no experience just because they're famous. The beauty of voice acting and animation in general is how you are completely creating a character. The whole point of voice acting is that you don't point to a character in a film and say, "hey, that's Chris Pratt" the point is that people will point to the charcater and go "oh, new character!" This movie is more and more frustrating to me the more I realize how much it feels like a money grab exclusively because of the casting. The animation, the music, and the effects are all completely perfect for a Mario movie, but so many of the acting choices feel like someone just rifled through a list of "100 most popular celebrities" and chose whoever was vaguely similar to "average white man voice" or "average white woman voice". No matter how popular these people are or how good they are at acting in front of a camera or on stage, they can not voice act.

When it comes to dating tips for women, one size doesn’t fit all. A young woman in her teens or 20s dates A LOT differently than a woman in her 30s and 40s. And while most woman generally want the same outcome, there are certain things women in their 30s and 40s know about dating that they disregarded or simply didn’t focus as much on in their younger years.
That’s why we talked to some of today’s top dating experts to see what they saw as the most important advice women in their 30s and 40s dating today should think about. After going through what they had to say, we came up with these 15 top dating tips for women who are out of their 20s and ready for something more serious.
1. Know your non-negotiables.
These would be those instant deal breakers of yours—he’s a smoker, a non-monogamist, a cat-lover, etc.—that instantly tell you to move on so you’re not wasting your time. “What are those three things that are not negotiable when you’re looking for a relationship?” asked relationship expert Dr. Melanie Mills. “Try not to include physical or financial attributes. Focus on character traits, personality type, and value systems.”
2. Don’t limit yourself.
“In your 20s you might have frowned when thinking about dating a guy with a child or one that had previously been married,” says Mills. But the chances are, if a man is is his 40s, there’s a higher probability he’s been married or has kids. “Stay open to men that have been divorced,” she adds.
3. Don’t lie. Don’t even inflate the truth.
Sure, you want to impress each other, but honesty from the start is a prerequisite to trust, says psychotherapist, Dr. Jennifer Freed. “If the picture or description of your date was inaccurate then the rest of the relationship will be likely be filled with deceptions too.”
4. Forget about any texting and calling rules.
Rules like ‘wait 3 days to call back’ no longer apply. “If you treat dating and love like a game, someone—or both of you—will end up the loser,” says host of, The Rendezvous with Simon and Kim on iHeart Radio, Simon Marcel Badinter. “If you want to, call back in the next 24 hours. It has to be honest and spontaneous if you want to be respected and start a healthy relationship.”
5. Pay attention to the red flags.
You know that feeling you get when you know something isn’t quite right? If your date can’t answer simple questions about where he works or acts super shady, chances are something weird is going on. “Listen to what your gut is telling you,” says Mills. And that goes for behaviors too. If he’s already getting on your nerves and it’s only the first date that’s another indicator that you’re just not going to work.
6. Know who you are as a person.
This is a complex one but necessary to surviving in a rapid dating world, says sex and relationship expert, Dr. Nikki Goldstein. “Building strength and self-confidence is key. The reality of it is, dating can be hard and feelings can be hurt. But if you know who you are and how you want to be treated then you won’t allow someone (or the dating scene) to continually hurt or discourage you.”
7. Be emotionally available.
Maybe your past relationships haven’t turned out like you wanted them to, or you feel like every date in the past month was a lemon. Well, get over it. “It’s still up to you to open your heart—and keep it open. This can be scary because you don’t want to get hurt. However, in order to grow and connect, you must be available and vulnerable,” says Mills.
8. Watch the alcohol.
Especially on date number one. Not only can getting drunk be risky and a turnoff, it also clouds your judgement. “Using substances like alcohol or drugs is not a good first date. It’s away to avoid a genuine connection,” says Freed.
9. Remember that dating is an exploration.
Dating should be fun and nothing more than a way to meet and get to know another person, who may or may not be fit to share your life with you. “[Dating] is not a commitment. There is no obligation involved with dating. No one owes anyone anything ever,” says Freed. It’s easy to get excited about someone and start planning your future together, but remember that you’re both just figuring out if you even like each other first. Don’t put pressure on things by feeling like you owe each other something, you don’t.
10. Know your sexual boundaries.
“Many women can confuse sex and sexual desires with a guy’s interest in them. He wants sex, she also wants sex but thinks him wanting sex means there is something more,” says Goldstein. “Explore your sexual boundaries and know where they are and why they’re there.” And, even more importantly, don’t let yourself be pressured into doing anything you don’t want to do just because you want to gain someone’s interest.
11. Don’t hide your enthusiasm or interest.
One of the dating tips for women we hear a lot is not to let a man know you like him, or to play hard to get. Well, that’s just wrong. Sure, a little mystery may be sexy in the beginning, but the game gets old fast. Even research shows that playing too much hard-to-get makes others like you less. At a certain point, you just have to let the man know you’re interested.
12. Be the date that you want to have.
It’s not only your date’s responsibility to make the date a success, it’s your responsibility too. “Engage in dialogue. Put the cell phone away. Be attentive. Ask questions. Don’t bring up your ex. Take an interest in the details of his life by listening, paraphrasing, and engaging,” says Mills.
13. Ditch the dating wish list.
Have your non-negotiables and boundaries, but dating with a strict itemized wish list—he must make this much, be this tall, drive this car, be this funny—will only hold you back from men who could be great for you in real life and limit you to men who only look good on paper, says Goldstein. “If you need a wish list it should be small and include feeling words instead of car makes and job titles,” she adds.
14. Have fun and release the pressure.
It’s normal to feel pressure as you watch your friends get married and have children, but remember that every person’s path is different. “You don’t want to settle down with a guy who’s not right for you. Therefore, release the pressure you place on yourself to lock down your next date as your future husband. Take each date one date at a time and have fun,” says Mills.
15. Be your true self.
Any falseness or pretending will stop you from knowing that someone is into you. “If you’re real, you’ll get real results. Be brave, be true, and most of all, believe that someone will celebrate and desire you,” says Freed.

Get to Know Me
Hello!
My name is Nikki R. and I am a student pursuing a double major in Criminal Justice and Physics at Missouri State University. In October of 2021, I was given the opportunity to apply for a study abroad program in the Balkans. During this trip, we will be visiting several important historical sites and meeting fellow Criminal Justice students at some of their finest universities. For the purpose of this program, we were given the option to either journal about our experiences or to author a blog. I opted to create a blog, allowing anyone who is interested to know more about my time in the Balkans, and what I learned, and hopefully, encourage more people to visit some of these amazing countries.
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ME
In the middle of nowhere, with a population of only a few hundred, I come from a small, close-knit town. On the outside, it looks like a gas station and a post office, nothing more and nothing less. As an insider, I have met some of the most wonderful people, learned hard lessons, and witnessed what the sentiment, "it takes a village," truly means. I've had the same three friends for over ten years, and I love them like my family. As for my family, I have a wonderful mother and step-father in the area who live just one street away from me.
Most days I spend my time studying or working as the manager of sales for a septic company (literally a crappy business), but when I have free time I love to spend it with my friends or family. Also, I pride myself on being an active person, so I enjoy gardening, trying to wrangle a massive lawn, taking long walks (not hard to do in the country), or taking my dogs out for a swim. On rainy days or when it's simply too blazing hot to want to leave the AC, I enjoy cooking (grilling if the weather provides), reading, or forcing my friends to subject themselves to another awful game of Monopoly.
WHY THE BALKANS?
The first thing my family said to me when they learned about my study abroad trip was, "Who would want to go to Bosnia?" The second was slightly ruder, "Is it expensive over there?" Over the months leading up to my trip, I've been asked nearly a dozen times by the same five people. There is a grain of truth to the questions, because when you Google the top ten vacation destinations the Balkans don't tend to make the list.
However, my professor leading the trip is a Balkan national, so she is able to utilize her experiences to walk us through each step of the program. Secondly, the Balkan states are a place of diversity, where people from all backgrounds and religions have come together. If one of my primary goals for studying abroad was to develop a stronger understanding of foreign cultures and diversity, the Balkans are the perfect place to do it.
Most importantly, this program offers me the ability to engage with fellow Criminal Justice students across the world. Not only will I be able to tell them about what I've learned in America, but they will be able to help me continue my education. Unfortunately, not everything can be learned through research, sometimes it involves going out into the world to find your answers.
WHAT TO LOOK FORWARD TO
On this blog, I plan to document all of my experiences in the Balkans. Each day, I will update with pictures of the sites, as well as a journal detailing what I've learned and how I felt. My goal is to be as open and honest as possible, so that others who are interested in traveling to the Balkans or learning more about foreign cultures can understand my experiences not only from my perspective, but see the good, the bad, and the really pretty pictures to go alongside it.

Hello Everyone!
I’d just like to gauge the interest of doing another holiday edition of the gift exchange! It would be great if you could reblog this around and send an ask or write a comment on this post if you’re interested. This will really help me to know if we have enough interest to do another round!
If you’re unfamiliar with the Phandom Gift Exchange, here’s a short rundown. We have done two rounds of this previously: a 2020 Holiday and 2021 Summer edition. It is basically a Secret Santa kind of exchange; the participants exchange many different kinds of phanworks (fic, art, gifs, moodboards, edits, playlists, etc.), and the recipients don’t know who is making their gift until the reveal day. Each participant gets to give prompts for their wanted gifts, and the admins match up the participants based on their prompts and what kinds of works they’d like to do.
Also, this isn’t as important, but how would people feel about a reveal day sometime after Christmas and before New Year’s (like the 27th-30th of December)? Or would it be better to do a reveal date before Christmas like most holiday events? Last year I believe we did it the weekend before Christmas, but that’s rather early this year because Christmas is on a Saturday. I’m thinking it would probably be a mid-week reveal date, like the 20th-23rd, if we were to do it before Christmas. Please just let me know what you guys would prefer!

What motivated me to create this post?
I have done countless research on the internet with regards to any Filipina/Filipino blogs on au pair experiences specifically in Germany but found very little, so I have decided to make one which can possible contribute some help if you plan of becoming an au pair in Germany. I hope this helps!!
What is an Au Pair?
“Au Pair” placement is the temporary reception by families, in exchange for certain services, of young foreigners who come to improve their linguistic and possibly professional knowledge as well as their general culture by acquiring a better knowledge of the country where they are received. Such young foreigners are hereinafter persons placed “au pair”. -Article 2, European Agreement on Au Pair Placement (1969).

Going back...
This au pair plan started in 2019. I got my visa for Germany with no help from any agency and it is possible that you can do it too! It was around April 2019 when I got connected to a Host Family in Germany through a Filipina colleague of my uncle.
My host family and I exchanged some emails giving each other our personal backgrounds, work expectations and a video call. We then decided to push through with the Au Pair program. To my fellow Kababayans, here is the link for the Visa application requirements in Manila, Philippines.

Some of the required documents took me some time to accomplish. (Again, just a reminder, this were all processed last 2019.)
These are the following:
#1: A1 Language certificate. I enrolled myself in the Goethe Institut Makati for Saturday classes which cost me (I can't exactly recall, but estimated) 6,000 thousand pesos, per level, because they have level A1.1, A1.2 and A1.3 and (if my memory serves me right) 500 pesos for the book entitled Schritte International. The A1 language exam costs around 5,000 pesos for Goethe enrolled students and 5, 500 for non-students.
I intentionally enrolled myself because I know that I do not have the discipline to self-study, but hey! if you believe you can then you can book straight ahead for the A1 exam when you feel like you are ready for it.
#2: Au Pair Contract
It took my host family and I weeks before I received my notarized/red ribbon contract. You can look up online some templates for the contract like aupair.com or aupairworld.com but this is the exact contract template that my host and I used

#3: Embassy Appointment
If you check the list of the requirements, you will find there where to book an appointment for the German Manila embassy. I believe it also took me some days or maximum of 1 week to get an email for an official date of the appointment.
#4: Appointment Interview
I book for an appointment in the embassy June 2019 and I received the interview appointment date November 2019 so I waited more or less 6 months just to be accommodated by the embassy. This was before the pandemic so I assume a lot of applicants were applying for different types of visa making the wait really long or I guess it is their standard waiting time.
5#: This Visa
The website of the embassy stated that it will take around 3 months to get your visa but I received mine in 1 month.
#6: CFO Seminar Certificate
Now this document is not stated in the list of requirements in the German Embassy in Manila but it is very Important because you will need it for IMMIGRATION. The seminar you will attend is called Country Familiarization Seminar for Au pairs. You can book your appointment online through their website. In this seminar you will also meet other Filipino/Filipina au pairs going to different European countries and of course there is a fee to pay for the certificate.

When I received my Schengen visa it was valid for 3 months in Germany because I will be extending it in Germany afterwards. When your documents are complete then you are ready to go!

The bisexuality is going strong with Eurovison. Two years ago my buddy Duncan, now the horny gays from Italy. Don't get me started on Iceland making top 5. Eurovison do be fueling my gayness.
I see a lot of people shitting on ballads and other more traditional stuff though, and that's not cool. France deserved that second place. In the spirit of bi/pansexuality, let people love all the music! I enjoyed the ballads AND the gay rock AND the nerdy gays AND whatever Ukraine was doing.
Top 5 things I loved abt this year:
1. Nikkie presenting, she was amazing
2. Malta. Body positivity, amazing voice and a song that slaps? Yes please.
3. Russia. Her expressions? Iconic. The message? Even better.
4. The dancing middle finger
5. The Netherlands' song was actually really good
Honorable mention to Lithuania or however you spell it. Easily the best dance song this year. Also, the amount of jokes made about Litouwers in the city of Lee Towers? We may have to wait another 40 years for that.

What are you looking forward to coming out in 2021?
Huh, this really is a tricky question since I don't keep track of release dates for much XD There are games I am looming forward to like the rest of Deltarune and BotW2 that don't have release dates; I stopped keeping track of when my fav authors are publishing new books; and trying to keep up with anime anything goes right out the window when I'm watching older stuff more lol.
Maybe more My Hero Academia anime is probably the top thing. Along with some doll releases.

Changed my header image to a Digimon Frontier/Undertale crossover concept I doodled a while back but hadn't shared. I haven't actually SEEN Frontier yet, but I really love the concept from what I've heard, so my Undertale obsession led me to an Asriel Digimon transformation lol
