I think one of the worst things about watching Bones, at least for me, is that no matter what season I am on, I am always going to miss a character. The first two seasons do not have Sweets. The first three seasons do not have the rotating squinterns. The early seasons do not have Aubrey and the later seasons do not have Zack. I just want all of my blorbos in the same room please and thanks.

bones (maybe) hot take: daisy wick is not annoying. anything apparently negative that can be said of her, can also be said of other characters who are well-liked by fans.

struggles in many social situations? so does… well, i was gonna say brennan, but actually most of the other characters on the show as well. talks a lot & is "too" cheerful? so does vincent nigel-murray. "too" emotional? the show is literally about emotion & logic coexisting! comes off as self-absorbed or too proud? so does brennan, plenty of people in-universe have that impression of her. messes up sometimes? they all do that, either for plot drama or comedic effect. chose her career over her love life? so did brennan… like, at the exact same time. tends to be oblivious to people’s negative opinions of her? so is brennan, fairly often.

daisy actually has many of the same character traits as brennan, except she’s also cheerful & open. her sin is being too happy? or that doesn’t have enough abandonment trauma? nah i love daisy. she’s misunderstood. i’m daisy’s defence lawyer for life.

OMG YES OF COURSE YOU CAN

Brennen

She’s against pets in general but if she had to pick one she’d choose a monkey

But after researching it and realizing she doesn’t have the adequate amount of time to care for one she lets booth get a dog

Has to be one that’s known for its intelligence tho

Booth

A dog man through and through

Specifically a high energy breed he can take for runs

Also likes to play fetch with it

Teaches it tricks

Constantly gets lectures from Brennen every time he says they have the smartest dog

Wants to let it lay in the bed but Brennen says no

He sneaks the dog up after she goes to sleep sometimes

Wendell

I bet you’re thinking dog huh?

Yeah you’re right

He has a American pitbull terrier he adores

Buys her sweaters for the winter

Takes her out to those dog friendly restaurants to play with Booth’s dog while they hang out

Cam

Cat lady 100%

Either a Siamese or a hairless cat

Spoils it with toys and treats, but makes sure it stays at a healthy weight

When no one is around she speaks to it in a baby voice

Arastoo

A cat he found at his local shelter

He doesn’t know what kind of cat it is

Has to take allergy pills because he developed an allergy after he already was attached

Sweets

A hermit crab he keeps in his office

Gets an artist friend to paint new shells based on sci fi movies he likes

Before he picked a name he was calling it buddy, which just kinda stuck

Angela

Likes many animals, but not keeping them

Only got one after Michael-Vincent kept begging

Ended up getting a hedge hog

It curls up in her lap while she paints or draws

Hodgins

Has the hedgehog with Angela obviously

He lets sit on his shoulder when relaxing

Built it a fucking MASSIVE enclosure in their house

This lil thing has so much to play with it’s insane

After a year or two of owning the hedgehog, he convinces Angela to get a tortoise

Who he also spoils

Zack

He bought a beta fish one day bc he thought a pet would make him less lonely but he was scared of all the other species at the pet store

He named it Archimedes

Originally just had it in a glass bowl

Bought it a proper tank after Hodgins explained how bad that is

Hodgins also went with him to pick out things it could hide in

Daisy

Honestly I’m not really sure

Maybe a hamster when she was young

But never got another pet after it died bc she was so sad

Loves Lance’s little hermit crab though

Says hi to it every time she stops by his office

Fisher

An iguana

He brought him into work once and cam made him put it in Hodgins’ bug room

Takes it for walks

It wears a black spiked collar with its leash

Vincent

He has two ferrets and and a set of Guinea pigs

Talks to them for hours telling them all the facts that pop into his head

Carries the ferrets around his body (neck, shoulders, arms, etc)

Talks about them like they are his human children

I have recently binge watched Bones and– CONSERVATIVELY SPEAKING– at least a quarter of the 11 inters + Brennan were autistic.

Temperance, Zack, and Vincent were absolutely, 100%, no arguments, autistic. The poor social skills, failing to read the room, slowly having to learn social cues, and the comfort of having a single correct answer at the end of the day to start.

I think Clark and Oliver could go either way but there is a healthy argument to be made that they are autistic. Clark's deep orginization and want for stability sways me. Oliver just had a god complex on top.

Then there's Jessica and Daisy. There is something going on here and I don’t know if it's autism, adhd, or comorbidity but it's something. Daisy reminds me of my sibling who is adhd since she's everywhere until she finds something that catches her attention. Jessica gives comorbid adhd and asd in my opinion but I can't exactly pinpiont why.

I think Fisher and Wendell could be put in the same 'probably not but maybe' area. They both had some odd things to their characters but Fisher had other issues and Wendell had cancer.

Rodolfo was an immigrant. He was not used to American culture and norms so he reads differently than if he were an American or if he'd spent more time in the states. He was just on a learning curve when we met him.

Arastoo and Finn were the most normal interns but that doesn't mean anything. Finn grew up in the south so he had different mannerisms that are pretty normal for what it is. Arastoo was awkward at first but grew into the team do I'd say he might have anxiety but what intern didn’t? (Oliver, the annoying one)

Plot for a bones au I will not be writing

Season 1

Mostly the same but the word autism is said outloud. Zack and Brennan regularly give each other a look that clearly expresses their annoyance with neurotypicals

Angela has a girlfriend for the first half. They break up about a month before she starts dating Hodgins. They are both Bi.

The Christmas episode becomes a two parter. Hodgins spends more of it next to Brennan and we address the fact that the only person he had to visit was an unnamed girlfriend because he also doesn’t have a family.

Season 2

Cam and Brennan skip the brief moment of hostility. The problem isn’t that Cam is there boss the problem is that she is a change and everyone is self aware enough not to blame her for it.

I’d introduce Sweets mid way through this season instead of making him a red herring in the Gormogon arc and let him get to know the whole team better.

Cam and Jared Booth interact in some way. She mentioned that he was like a little brother to her and establishing that solidifies the history she has with the Booth family.

Season 3

More Hodgins and Angela. They were great this season and I would like even more of them. Show them in each other’s space and how they fit in it.

Hodgins gets home early from a date and goes to talk to Zack just to find him making a dentures out of human teeth. Zack explains everything. Hodgins cares about his friend and also wants to take down a canablistic order. He ends up keeping it a secret as long as Zack promises to keep him in the loop. That is the end of the season leaving them on a cliffhanger.
