Song Review: Lou Reed - “Open Invitation”

Unreleased for 40 years, “Open Invitation” is Lou Reed’s paean to martial arts.

Musically speaking, this excavated New Sensations demo from 1983 is the love child of David Bowie’s “Fame” and “Sound and Vision.” Though the melody is repetitive, it cuts a deep groove as Reed proclaims himself at peace.

I’m a tai chi man/and my mind is very clear, he sings.

A welcome discovery, “Open Invitation” is no lost masterpiece; nor is it a throwaway.

I suppose there are two ways in which you can dwell upon Artificial Intelligence and New Sensations. One can see them both as the result of two lads just having a laff with some glitzy ‘80s styles and production. Or you can see them as somewhat hapless: attempts by two of rock’s old guard to catch up with the times and add something of value to an entirely different era. I prefer seeing them as the former – it’s more fun that way.

Pensando, en el medio de un mal momento y con los ojos brillosos por tanto llorar, llego a una posible conclusión de muchas veces odiar ese umbral de sensibilidad tan alto que tengo (es excesivamente alto me he dado cuenta).

Por qué todo siempre tiene que afectarme TANTO? sea malo, sea bueno, siempre son sentimientos excesivos.

Y uno piensa bueno, eso es algo lindo y bueno, no?

Esa es la pregunta que tuve mucho tiempo y no. La gran mayoría de las veces no es algo "lindo y bueno"... La gran mayoría de las veces te destruye.

Porque si, es hermoso sentir tanto los sentimientos lindos; amor, empatia, euforia.... Poder ser tan perceptiva a todo; energías, presencias, auras.... Es hermoso y mágico a la vez. Eso no lo dudo.

Pero que pasa con los sentimientos malos? Ustedes se imaginan sintiendo TAN intensamente la tristeza, el miedo, la inseguridad, la soledad, el dolor?? Eso... Esa intensidad de sentimientos tan destructores pero inevitables.... Y ahí es donde llaman la atención; qué sean INEVITABLES.

Me encuentro en un profundo proceso de equilibrarlos o manejarlos, de superarlos y aceptar que quizás soy una persona especial, por la forma que tengo tan desarrollado el "SENTIR COSAS".

Creo que ese "sentir cosas" traspasa algunos planos, une y a veces, asusta... De alguna manera u otra pienso en la sabiduría espiritual que adquieren personas así.

Será que estamos intentando ignorar cada vez más todo lo espiritual en un mundo donde solo se salva el espíritu?

Hace falta luz. Ser luz, buscar luz, dar luz.

En fin.... Que difícil es ser una persona altamente sensible.
