the Chemical Brothers - Galvanize 2004
"Galvanize" is a song by British electronic music duo the Chemical Brothers featuring vocals by American rapper Q-Tip. It was released on 22 November 2004 as the first single from their fifth studio album, Push the Button (2005). "Galvanize" won the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording in February 2006.
The song peaked at number 3 on the UK Singles Chart on 23 January 2005. It was the Chemical Brothers' highest-charting single in their native UK since "Hey Boy Hey Girl", which had also reached number 3 in 1999. The song peaked at number 1 in Greece and Spain. In Australia, it was ranked number 65 on Triple J's Hottest 100 of 2004.
The track features a distinct Moroccan Chaabi music string sample from Najat Aatabou's 1992 song "Hadi Kedba Bayna" ("This Lie is Obvious" in Arabic). The track also features rapping by Q-Tip (member of A Tribe Called Quest, and previously featured in the polls at #146 with Janet Jackson's "Got 'til It's Gone"). In part of the song, it is played a sample from the duo's first single "Leave Home", released in 1995.

I warmed up the system on Itunes.
Gotta build the steam pressure before serious work. Shakira has a new album out. It is all in Spanish. I studied Spanish in High School so long long ago in a galaxy far far away. I catch the occasional word. She just got a divorce so the music is happy dancing and break up stuff.
Next up I dusted off that Mofi Emmylou Harris disk. I applied a generous amount of groove washer which seems to have helped the residual ticks and pops. I like all types of music (well not gansta RAP) so country is easy. So many categories and slots. Hey people is just art go easy. I respect this album for the music and for the basic quality of the recording and detailed sounds of instruments. Brian Ahern is a very good producer and engineer.
The apparent issue with that background singer from earlier spins is gone. That is curious, I cannot explain it so I will not try.
Clear vocals. Great instrumentals.
One thing about this album is it was created by a community of people who knew and liked each other. Willie Nelson does a great duet in "One Paper Kid" he was a friend. His Stardust album was released the same year as Quarter Moon and was recorded in the home Emmylou shared with Brian Ahern using Ahern's mobile recording truck.
Next up Loreena Mkinnett "Mask and Mirror". A highly spiritual album. Her music explores myriad influences of ancient European cultures. The instrumentation is eclectic with really rich textures. Just the things I love.
Tumblr media
She uses a poem by W.B. Yeats for a lyric and performs a Shakespearean soliloquy. Pulls influences from all over. The Album has an insert with notes about what inspired each track as well as lyrics and performer's details. That alone is reason enough to go to vinyl LPs. Impossible with streaming that is. If you go to her web site you can get a look too. But I like tangible things.
The recording quality is excellent. Enough said.
I shut it down for a rest for both me and the hardware.

Can we talk about how Arab and Muslim players are being harassed, fired and even jailed for supporting Palestine and not a single one of their club teammates shows support. Like Atal was mainly supported by Algerian players, his french club teammates didn't say a word for him , also El Ghazi was completely ignored, I saw Mahrez retweeted his statement but Mahrez is Arab so it make sense, same as the Moroccan players who supported him, but what about his club teammates? what about Western players that work with these Muslim/Arab players, who even consider them as friends, not even one tweet of support? and the same thing with Hollywood, Melissa barrera the lead actress from scream was fired for talking about the genocide happening in Palestine, most of the people who showed her support were minorities like her. These recent weeks made confirm my belief that us people of color need to be each other allies and supporters because most white people would never be a reliable ally, they will throw you under the bus the moment your friendship threaten their position and their money.
What else can be said about this friend? You've said it all. Literally the only three non muslim players I've personally seen posting about Palestine were Bellerin (are we surprised) Mertens (I appreciated that he posted more than once and with arguments) and Dzeko. I don't know if I'm missing someone else honestly but this is all I saw.
Two of them play in Turkey where nobody obviously risks anything, kudos to Bellerin though I don't think la liga, like serie a, gives any shit about it. France and Germany have always dealt terribly with anything concerning migrants, second and third and fourth generation migrants, identity, religion, integration...they claim to be secular, fair countries, but all they do is forcing bias on their most vulnerable people. All the time. They claim they are secular but christians and jews will have a safer place than muslims, they claim they are above differences but whites will aways have more protection than poc people. Youcef Atal being actually prosecuted is FUCKING CRAZY and no one other than other muslim players is having his back. No one. Rap*sts can get posts and comments of solidarity by half of players in europe but none of them have said a word for Youcef and Anwar. But if you look around yourself, how many white people do you think will fight alongside you when you really, really need it? Not so many of them right. Yeah, it sucks really.

Ghetto Kids lose out in Britain's Got Talent final
Tumblr media
Ugandan dance troupe Ghetto Kids missed out on the top three slots at the last stage of Britain’s Got Talent competition on Sunday, thanking fans for their "unwavering support through out the competition". The group of six children are aged between six and 13, and came from impoverished backgrounds in Uganda's capital Kampala before being taken in and cared for by their guardian-turned-manager Dauda Kavuma. Ghetto Kids was among the 10 finalists in the competition – which was won by Viggo Venn, a 33-year-old comedian from Norway. The second place was taken by 13-year-old dancer Lilliana Clifton while magician Cillian O’Connor, 14, came third. The Ugandan group already made history after becoming the first act to be given a "golden buzzer" by one of the judges before they had even finished their performance - which sent them straight to the semi-final. They then received the most public votes, giving them a place at the final alongside nine other contestants. It has added to the group's already considerable fame - the Ghetto Kids already had millions of YouTube views under their belts before joining the UK talent show, and featured in a music video for US-Moroccan rap star French Montana in 2017.
