I got way too excited seeing my two favourite terrible men doing terrible shit together in Onslaught. Also, Shao Kahn still keeps Taigores, like giant, vicious house cats.

So, bit of a ramble but I swear I'll get to the point.
We actually get a not terrible amount of worldbuilding in mk9-mk11 continuity, but not enough (tbf I go feral for worldbuilding so that might just be me) and I'm really tempted to try and make the worldbuilding of MK9-mk11 make more sense and flesh it out a bit?
Like, there's so many questions left unanswered:
If the cryomancers were banished from Edenia by Sindel, why? And how did they end up in China? What was their culture before that? Did they have a language of their own, has any of it survived, did the dragons Kuai Liang finds in Arctika come from Edenia with the cryomancers or were they there before that?
Also, the Tarkatans, we know they have a language but NRS hasn't made anything substantial for it (which is fair, conlangs are hard and a lot of work to put in for what would likely be a minor part of the games) so what would their language look like? And what is their culture like, we know they value kombat, but what else? Do they have rules around who they can hunt, is anyone off limits? Do they have holidays or gods?
Kollector is an antisemetic caricature, I don't think anyone can really dispute that, so I would love to throw that out tbh. For the Naknada, what if the way Kollector behaves is just a stereotype Outworlders hold about them, and not actually the truth (seriously fu NRS for making Kollector like that, wtf)? What is their culture like? Their language? We know Shao Khan enslaved them so where did they come from before that and are they now free or still trapped?
And the Netherrealm, canonically, people go there when they die sometimes. Do people ever escape? What do they become then, are they wraiths or something else? Also what specifically is the difference between a wraith and a revenant? It's implied that spectres and wraiths are the same thing but are they? What's the hierarchy between the Oni? We know they answer to Quan Chi and Shinnok but how are they organized besides that? What is their culture (Or cultures) like? And their language?
Similarly with Edenia, what was their culture and language like? How much of it survived with Sindel and got passed down to Kitana and Jade? How many Edenians survived and now live in Outworld, bc surely Shao Khan couldn't have killed them all, not only would that be logistically impossible, it's kinda proven by the way he treats the Naknada and the Tarkatans that he prefers to keep the peoples of the realms he conquers around as a workforce, did he do the same here?
What did the other Mortal Kombat tournaments look like? Not the ones with Earthrealm but with Tarkata, the Osh-Tekk, and the Naknada (who I'm pretty sure had their own realm too?). You have to win ten consecutive tournaments to conquer a realm so what happens if you lose the third? Do you have like a cooldown period or just wait another however many years to when the fourth would be and start from there? Like do the realms being threatened need to win ten as well in order to stave off conquest?
Similarly, what specifically is the timeframe, bc a couple times they say once a generation (unclear), others (if I remember correctly) they say it's every hundred years, but then Shao Khan says he has to wait 500 years to conquer Earthrealm so is that the cooldown period? Or is that how long it took him to get to tournament ten (making it 50 years between tournaments)? Is it different depending on which realm is attacking which? Like it's once a generation but bc some live longer than others the exact amount of years varies (which seems to make the most sense)?
What even are the actual rules of Mortal Kombat? How many fighters can each side bring? Are there any weapons banned in the arena? Why can people challenge fighters on their own side and does this count as an official match and if so whose victory does the win count towards? Who is allowed to declare Mortal Kombat? Does it have to be a leader (like how Shao Khan is an emperor) or can a realm's protector god do it?
Also wtf was Outworld originally? I know we get some answers on that in games before mk9-11 but I don't know what those answers are (PLEASE feel free to yell at me about it, I BEG). Which of the nations we see under Shao Khan were part of Outworld originally, and which had their own realms?
Basically, I have many questions, I crave answers and if I cannot find them I might just create them.
Like I have headcanons and a long and boring night ahead so...

I've a bit of issue with Mileena's writing in the Kahn coin au especially when it's comes to her backstory. But today I find a solution. What if I merged both of her origins stories. From Midway timeline and the NRS trilogy.
In the Midway timeline Mileena was created some time after Edenia was conquered and she and Kitana grew up together as sisters. In the NRS trilogy Mileena was a recent creation and she and kitana did not grew up together since her only purpose was to replace her.
So here the new idea that I propose. Kitana and Mileena grew up together but there was multiple Mileena's clone through out Kitana's life. Since Shang Tsung haven't been able to fully master the art of cloning, the Mileena clones just kept on dying. Resulting in each clone with a short lifespan and weak immunity.
Through out this time Kitana just thought that her sister was either missing, kidnapped or sick. But nah she was just straight up expired. With Shang Tsung creating a new clone for the next day.
With each new clone Mileena's memories would be updated. Although lacking the whole dying part. In Mk9 Shang Tsung had finally fixed his biggest issue with the clones and was able to get Mileena suited with the Edenian's longevity. Unfortunately it happened on the same day that Kitana learnt the truth. She found the new clone in the flesh pits and mistake it for a abomination. Shang Tsung revealed the truth.
Feeling betrayed and filled with anger Kitana rejects her sister. She brought Shang Tsung to the Emperor for judgement. But as all know Shao congratulates the sorcerer and reveals the truth of Kitana. But in all fairness Shao Kahn wasn't mentally well that day. He had finally combated the voice's influences but that cost him his intellect and sanity.
In his unwell state Shao Kahn has Kitana sentence to execution and proudly proclaim Mileena as his true daughter. Filled with anguish at Kitana's betrayal Mileena becomes fully obedient to Shao Kahn believing it to be her only purpose in life.
As for the purpose of Mileena's creation, she was created to kept a close eye on Kitana in case she would one day learn of truth of her realm and betray Shao Kahn. Beyond that she pretty much useless. The Tarkatan dna made Mileena more obedient and her blood thirst nature and ferocity made her an excellent assassin. Contrary to her sister Kitana.
I guess in a strange way this makes Mileena's origins all the more tragic since it pretty much clear that she was nothing but a experimental tool since the beginning and has more experience with death than any other character. Beside Geras. On and another tragedy on the twist is that Shao never loved Mileena. He always loved Kitana more.

What if there was an Earthrealm Fighter in Mortal Kombat that was just straight up an alien, like, a Grey Alien. Not dlc, but like, canon. With a canon faction and world lore and everything.

Scorpion: A Burning Rage in the Mortal Kombat Universe
Tumblr media
Scorpion, a name synonymous with vengeance and fiery fury, stands as one of the most iconic figures in the Mortal Kombat franchise. His journey, however, transcends the archetype of a one-dimensional villain. Here, we delve into the complex psyche and enduring legacy of this Netherrealm wraith.
**From Mortal Man to Specter: A Legacy Forged in Fire**
Scorpion's origin story is steeped in tragedy. Born Hanzo Hasashi, he was a proud and skilled warrior of the Shirai Ryu clan. However, his life took a horrific turn when the rival Lin Kuei clan, led by Bi-Han (the first Sub-Zero), brutally murdered his family and comrades. Consumed by an insatiable desire for revenge, Hanzo succumbed to a demonic pact, becoming the spectral entity known as Scorpion.
**Inferno's Fury: Power and Techniques**
Fueled by rage and wielding the power of the Netherrealm, Scorpion possesses an arsenal that embodies his fiery persona. His signature weapon is the kunai, a chained dagger he uses to grapple and skewer opponents with his iconic "Get Over Here!" shout. He also commands an array of hellfire-based attacks, including breathing fire, teleporting with fiery eruptions, and even summoning flaming chains from the Netherrealm. Scorpion's fighting style is a brutal blend of Shirai Ryu ninjutsu and demonic enhancements, making him a relentless and terrifying foe.
**Beyond Vengeance: A Nuanced Evolution**
While revenge is his initial driving force, Scorpion's narrative takes a fascinating turn. He encounters Kuai Liang, the younger brother of Bi-Han who has assumed the mantle of Sub-Zero. Realizing Kuai Liang wasn't responsible for his family's demise, Scorpion's focus shifts. He grapples with the weight of his demonic pact and seeks redemption, a desire to find peace amidst the inferno within him.
This internal struggle adds depth to Scorpion's character. He becomes a reluctant ally, fighting alongside those who share his goal of protecting Earthrealm, even forming a begrudging respect with former enemies. This complexity elevates him beyond a simple vengeance machine, making him a compelling and relatable anti-hero.
**A Mortal Kombat Icon: Legacy and Impact**
Scorpion's influence on the Mortal Kombat franchise is undeniable. He's been a playable character in almost every game, his design instantly recognizable with its yellow and black palette and skull mask. His signature moves, particularly the "Get Over Here!", have become ingrained in popular culture. He's also featured in numerous adaptations, including movies and animated shows, further solidifying his place as a fighting game legend.
**The Fire Burns On: Scorpion's Future**
Scorpion's journey is far from over. With each new Mortal Kombat title, his story unfolds, revealing new facets of his character. Whether seeking redemption, forging unlikely alliances, or facing new threats, Scorpion remains a central figure in the Mortal Kombat universe. His burning rage may fuel him, but it's the potential for something more, a flicker of humanity amidst the flames, that keeps players engaged with this iconic character.

Black Sun (Earthrealm’s Religious Cult)
Tumblr media
The Black Sun is an organization led by the most powerful men and women across earthrealm. They are not an organization or a syndicate similar to Red or Black Dragon. Rather they are a Cult. A group of infiltrators and spies. They have their fangs in everything including politics, religion, businesses and the entertainment world.
They believe that they should be the ones to rule Earthrealm and they will do anything in their power to get rid any and all Gods.
The Black Sun would be considered the illuminati of the Mk universe.
The Black Sun was founded nearly a thousand before the events of the  first Mk game. The Black Sun was established by a mortal who’s name has been forgotten by history. This man was a formal friend of the Gods but turned traitor and even got one of the Gods killed, presumably.
Out of guilt the man took his own life and ended up in the Netherrealm as a spirit. While he was in he Netherrealm he encounter Lucifer and his brother Hosanna about to storm Shinnok’s palace to retake the throne.
The man become deeply upset and furious although the reason why is unknown. Quan Chi took advantage of the mortal’s anger and convinced him to overthrow earthrealm’s Pantheon. However the angered spirit wanted to do more than just dethrone the Gods. He wanted to take control of earthrealm and bring the realm's fate back into the hands of mortals.
The spirit became flesh once more and for  generations he gathered humans who would join his cause for world domination and with that the Black Sun was founded.
However their founder was captured by Lord Raiden and placed on trial for the execution of an earthrealm’s Protector. He never confesses to being the killer, but he did admit that he was responsible for forming the Black Sun. As punishment for his crimes the spirit lost his physical form and was imprisoned in the jar of traitors.
When Raiden turned into Dark Raiden he declare war on the Black Sun and he personally hunted down every single member regardless of who they are and their authoritative position as a means to purge earthrealm of its corruption. The Black Sun would have been wiped out if it wasn’t for a few members who had escaped Raiden’s wrath. They seek refuge with those who wish to take Raiden down. Some even fled to the Red and Black Dragon as they sought refuge with their allies

What are your thoughts on the two other monkeys? Idk if you ever heard of them, but it's the Red Bottom Ape and Long Armed Gibbon.
i actaually had some pretty lore heavy origin story hcs for those guys a couple of years ago, but i dont think i ever posted them. ill put some of the old art here and paste the lore under a cut cause its LONG (replaced the old swk and maq in the last pic with some more recent ones bc my hcs for them changed so much lmao)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
their lore was well researched i spent days on it but it was a couple years ago lmao, its based on the principals they represent plus which of yin/yang they represent
long armed gibbon- can seize the sun and the moon, distinguish the auspicious from the inauspicious, and manipulate planets and stars
gibbon was born when a seed from a fir tree fell from heaven to earth. it landed on top of an eroded mountian and a tree started growing. after several hundred years, when the tree stretched high enough and was wise enough and the pine cones had gone from dark purple to blue, the trunk split one day at sunrise on a blue misty morning and gibbon walked into the world
red-buttocked horse monkey- who has knowledge of yin and yang, understands human affairs, is adept in its daily life and able to avoid death and lengthen its life
horse was born from a drop of water flung from a trough in heavens stables (part of the reason swk was so pleased to guard the horses when he went)
when she fell to earth she became a river that people often visited and talked around and played in. from this she came to understand human affairs. she also found she could help creatures avoid death or prolong their life by feeding their crops. when she knew enough, she climbed out of the river at sundown and walked into the world
sun wukong, the wise stone monkey- who knows transformations, recognizes the seasons, discerns the advantages of earth, and is able to alter the course of planets and stars
stealing from nezha reborn where the myth goes that when nüwe patched the sky, the leftover stone was where swk came from, but im changing it to one of the tiles that was used to create the furnace was dropped, leaving a monkey sized gap where he could later on slot into to keep himself alive in there. the tile was knocked out of the basket by the wind and fell to earth and this was the only one that landed on ffm. you know the story here, he absorbed chi from heaven AND earth which is why hes so powerful
six eared macaque- who has a sensitive ear, discernment of fundamental principles, knowledge of past and future, and comprehension of all things
macaque was born very suddenly when a piece of moon rock broke off and fell to earth on a new moon. the resulting meteor created a huge and sudden flash of light in a forest which created hundreds of stark shadows at once. the shadows condensed and the resulting being wouldnt have lived if it hadnt been a new moon because he needed the next hours of darkness to collect himself into a full being. but before the night was done, a new monkey was born who was able to hear everything in the radius he had collected shadows from, which if youve ever seen a meteor flash, is a long way
somethin interesting abt the things that created them- swks tile was actually heavenly, which is why he represents primarily yang (heaven). his was the only one that was CRAFTED BY heaven. gibbon and horse are both from something that fell from heaven and then the earth changed its form (the tree grew on earth from a heavenly seed, and the drop of water became a river) whereas macaque, representing the yin is fully of earth, the meteor that created him was from heaven but he didnt directly come from the meteor, he came from the shadows it created on earth. his only connection is to the earth
