“On War Criminal, Terrorist Apartheid and Illegal Regime of Isra-hell,” Trump Is Even Worse Than ‘Genocidal Joe’ Biden
Donald Trump and his MAGA Cult of Christian Nationalists Would Never Force Isra-hell to Accept a Ceasefire — or a Palestinian State

To Understand The State of American Politics today when it comes to Gaza, Israel, and Palestine, just look at the very different ways in which the House of Representatives handled the cases of Rep. Rashida Tlaib, a Michigan Democrat, and Rep. Brian Mast, a Florida Republican.
Tlaib was punished for her views on Israel and the war in Gaza. Mast was not.
It’s not hard to figure out why.
Tlaib, the Only Palestinian American in Congress, was censured by the Republican-controlled House in November after she posted a video of protesters in Michigan chanting “From The River To The Sea, Palestine Will Be Free.” Israel’s supporters claim the chant is code for a desire to wipe the Jewish state off the map, but Tlaib responded that it was just “an aspirational call for freedom, human rights and peaceful coexistence, not death, destruction or hate.”
“I Can’t Believe I Have To Say This,” she added, “But Palestinian People Are Not Disposable.”
Tlaib’s censure was a symbolic act that has no substantive impact on her ability to function in Congress, but that wasn’t the point. House Republicans just wanted to embarrass her and politically marginalize any congressional support for the Palestinian people. House Democrats briefly sought to censure Mast for comparing Palestinians to the hundreds of thousands of German civilians carpet bombed into oblivion by the Allies in Nazi Germany during World War II. His implication was that Palestinians deserve to be obliterated for the crimes of Hamas, just as German civilians were annihilated for the crimes of Hitler and the Third Reich. “I would encourage the other side to not so lightly throw around the idea of innocent Palestinian civilians,” he said. “I don’t think we would so lightly throw around the term ‘innocent Nazi civilians’ during World War II.”
The motion to censure Mast was introduced in the House last November, at the same time the Republicans were going after Tlaib. But while the censure motion against Tlaib succeeded, the motion against Mast was quietly withdrawn.
Ever since, Mast has doubled down on his anti-Palestinian rhetoric without facing any consequences. He even wore an Israeli military uniform to a Republican conference meeting on Capitol Hill. When questioned about it by reporters, he said that since Tlaib displays a Palestinian flag outside her office, he thought he should wear his old Israel Defense Forces uniform. A U.S. Army veteran who lost both of his legs in Afghanistan in 2010, Mast briefly volunteered with the IDF in January 2015, performing support functions like packing medical kits. Virtually every other Republican in Congress shares Mast’s views and would gladly don an IDF uniform if they had one.
Earlier this year, Mast expanded on his comments about Palestinian civilians, saying that even Palestinian babies are not innocent and are thus legitimate targets. “It would be better if you kill all the terrorists and kill everyone who are supporters,” he told Code Pink protesters. When asked about images of Palestinian infants being killed in Israeli attacks, he said “these are not innocent Palestinian civilians.”
“From The River To The Sea, Palestine 🇵🇸 Will Be Free.”
The Contrasting Outcomes of the Tlaib and Mast cases highlight an undeniable fact: The American political establishment still strongly favors Israel over the Palestinians. But if Donald Trump gets back into the Oval Office, he and his MAGA Republicans like Brian Mast will be even worse.
Trump is a big fan of war crimes, especially against Muslims. During his first term, he intervened on behalf of Special Operations Chief Eddie Gallagher, a Navy SEAL platoon leader convicted of posing for a photo with the body of dead Iraqi; another SEAL team member told investigators that Gallagher was “freaking evil,” but Trump said at a political rally that he was one of “our great fighters.” Trump also pardoned Blackwater contractors convicted of killing Iraqi civilians in a wild shooting spree in Baghdad’s Nisour Square. There is no chance that he would try to stop Israel from indiscriminately killing Palestinians.
After the October 7 Hamas attack, Trump was briefly critical of Netanyahu and blurted out that Hezbollah was “very smart.” Hezbollah, an Iranian-backed group designated a terrorist organization by the United States, has battled Israel on its northern border with Lebanon. Trump was immediately and roundly attacked by other Republicans for his comments, and he quickly renewed his long-standing pledge to align the United States fully with Israel. If he’s reelected, he will give Israel unalloyed support for all-out war, and he will do so with the wholehearted backing of the Republican Party.
Republicans’ support for Israel is matched or exceeded by their hatred for Palestinians. Rep. Ryan Zinke, a Montana Republican who was secretary of the interior in the Trump administration, has proposed legislation that would prevent Palestinians from entering the United States and trigger the mass deportation of those already here. It would ban those holding passports issued by the Palestinian Authority from obtaining U.S. visas, while mandating the removal of Palestinian passport holders already living here.
Many Republicans express their unwavering support for Israel in biblical and apocalyptic terms. Rep. Mike Johnson, a Christian evangelical, made his first public appearance after being elected House speaker last October at a conference of the Republican Jewish Coalition, where he said that “God is not done with Israel.”
It is dangerous to get between evangelicals and their theology. Trump recognizes their importance to his political success, and his support for Israel is a way to satisfy his evangelical Christian base. “No president has done more for Israel than I have,” Trump claimed in 2022. “Our wonderful Evangelicals are far more appreciative of this than the people of the Jewish faith, especially those living in the U.S.”
At the 2016 Republican convention, Trump pushed through a provision in the party platform ending GOP support for a two-state solution and a Palestinian state. Now, Trump and Republicans agree with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu when he says that Israel can no longer agree to a two-state solution. “In any future arrangement … Israel needs security control over all territory west of the Jordan,” Netanyahu said in January. “This collides with the idea of sovereignty. What can you do? This truth I tell to our American friends, and I put the brakes on the attempt to coerce us to a reality that would endanger the state of Israel.”
That’s fine with Trump and Republicans like Brian Mast.
Although the Biden administration has bent over backward to support Israel, the president has said repeatedly in recent weeks that an independent Palestinian state is still possible. What’s more, political unrest within the Democratic Party is starting to have an impact on Biden, forcing changes in the White House’s approach to Israel. Over the weekend, Vice President Kamala Harris called for an immediate ceasefire; such new pressure from the Biden administration appears to be working, as Israel and Hamas now seem closer to an agreement.
Trump would never face such pro-Palestinian pressure from within the Republican Party. He and his MAGA cult of Christian nationalists would never force Israel to accept a ceasefire — or a Palestinian state. Mast has harshly attacked Biden for continuing to support a two-state solution, dismissing the idea by saying that “a Palestinian state would be run by terrorists.”
There are limits to Biden’s support for Netanyahu. Trump and the Republican Party have none.

“At every stage of his career, as an attorney and a state and a federal lawmaker, Johnson has immersed himself more deeply in a world where reality doesn’t matter and any wild belief is plausible. Hate thrives in that world, and so it was a relatively simple matter for it to embrace Trump’s drive to stay in power after he lost the 2020 election. The science denier became an election denier. When Johnson urged fellow House Republicans to oppose the results of the election, he did so in religious terms, Politico reported. “This is a very weighty decision. All of us have prayed for God’s discernment. I know I’ve prayed for each of you individually,” he allegedly told them. That is who Mike Johnson is: a polite extremist, who is no less radical than anyone who stormed the Capitol on January 6. The disciple of Christ is now a disciple of Trump.”

THE RADICAL LIBERAL
My reading of the Creation story in Genesis suggests that God never left the Garden that day; he never let the gate open by accident. No, God never left the Garden at all! The evil side of his personality showed up instead.
These poor kids were duped by a mentally-impaired maniac, hell-bent on getting his jollies on their suffering. He told Adam he would forever have to plow the fields to eat, and told Eve she would have great pain in childbirth — and submit to her husband.
Reading the Bible takes not only a lot of coffee (with a spoonful of pessimism), but it also requires a good sense of humor: the stories are simply outrageous nonsense. It is clear these stories were written by men who wanted to control others, including their wives, and they used these tall tales to try to explain the unexplainable.
In sum, the Bible might have been written by a couple of dudes sitting around smoking doobies all day. The story of the “Fall” was no doubt written by some dude whose wife didn’t want to put up the new bathroom tile the way he wanted, and so they had a fight, and she moved back in with her mother, and now he’s got to do his own damned laundry, and he hates her.
Ok, ok: the Bible is a diary for madmen. It’s called the Bible because it’s the handbook for how lunatics try to exert their crazy-assed way of life on others.
It the Cadillac of cult books.
Being in a cult, like any organized religion, requires:
The Leader to tell the followers who and what to fear
The Leader to tell the followers that he alone can save them, that he alone will fight for them, and that he alone can be trusted to protect them
The Leader closes off and shuts out any and all voices of dissent by telling followers “they lie to hurt you”
Those who have spent their lives following a religious Leader like God give their minds over to fear, false hope, and the believing of lies.
There’s another cult that has become popular with naïve followers, and they too are being told who to fear, who to trust, and that what others say is “fake news.”
The Cult of Trump.

OK, I'm sorry for posting about politics. Truly. I'll post something sims-related later to make up for it. But for me this is local politics, and Ken Buck -- a man with whom I vehemently disagree, politically, but whom I respect for his commitment to democracy and his stance on the 2020 election not being stolen and for his continuing denouncement of the January 6th insurrection despite things like death threats made against himself and his family by MAGA loonies -- has made my day today. I have literally (and I mean that in the true sense of the word) been spending my afternoon/evening periodically chortling from sheer schadenfreude, so I just have to memorialize this and hope that I don't have to eat my words in November.
For context, or for non-USians, or for just the (slightly) shorter version if you don't want to look at the article....
Lauren Boebert, a super-"MAGA" fascist, is, depressingly, my current representative in the US House of Representatives. She only barely won reelection in 2022 despite the fact that, while I live in a very blue, hippie spot of it, the district has historically leaned heavily conservative because most of the district is made up of very Christian rural ranchers, who are conservative, yes, but in their case, generally speaking, traditionally so. They're mostly not the weird, Trump-flag-waving, MAGA-cult breed of it. So, Bobo only won reelection in 2022 by a few hundred votes and, since then, Adam Frisch, the centrist (which, by non-US standards, is right-wing) Democrat who opposed her and is running again, has only gotten more popular, as the House has proceeded to get absolutely nothing done, despite having a majority, precisely because of the shenanigans of MAGA idiots like Bobo.
So, Bobo decides that for the 2024 election, she'll instead run for the district east of mine, which was Mr. Buck's and which is even more conservative. She announced this decision right after Mr. Buck announced that he was retiring and would not be running for reelection. It was obvious that Bobo figured that that district would be a much easier win than the traditionally conservative district she very nearly lost.
But just today, Mr. Buck announced that instead of staying in Congress until this coming January, he's out as of this coming Friday. Which forces a special election in his district to fill his seat until January. Our (Democrat) state governor announced that that election will on the 25th of June, which is by law the longest delay possible, thus leaving Mr. Buck's seat empty until then, thus eroding the Republicans' majority until then. And if Bobo wanted to enter that special election, she'd have to resign from her current seat immediately because you can't be a sitting congressperson for one district and run for and be elected in another. Bobo has announced that she's not going to give up her current seat. And, for various reasons, all of this means that her chances of winning Buck's district in the regular election in November are now worse. And, she can't change her mind and run for reelection in the regular election for her current district, even if she wanted to, because the deadline for entering that election has recently passed.
So basically it's (probably) bye-bye Bobo! (And probably hello, Mr. Frisch for me, and while I'd be happier with a progressive, I'll take a centrist over a MAGA idiot any day.) And also? Mr. Buck, who has publicly stated that his party no longer aligns with his values, has not only screwed Bobo with his well-timed decision to "spend more time with his family," but also Mike "Christian Nationalist Fascist" Johnson, the Speaker of the House -- who, as the icing on the cake, was not informed of Mr. Buck's decision in advance of the announcement of it -- as his parting gift to MAGA.
Why? Because the Republicans now have a majority of just four or five seats, and, from next Friday until July, when Mr. Buck's (most likely Republican but perhaps not MAGA) successor will be sworn in, they now have one less, with the next election only eight months away and at a time when the Repugs need all hands on deck, so to speak, if they have any hope of getting anything at all done and, therefore, of having anything "positive" (by the conservative definition of that word) that they can talk up and run on from now until November. I'm pretty sure this big "screw you" was Mr. Buck's intention before he announced even his original retirement plans, so...Well played, Mr. Buck. Well. Played.
The question is: Will other House Republicans with integrity (there are a few left) follow Mr. Buck's lead? Could we see the House change majority before the 2024 election? It's not likely, but it's possible! And either way, this one conservative man dealt a blow to the MAGAs today, and I, as an extreme leftie, am here for it.

The Proud Boys’ presence at the festival is the latest example of the far-right street-fighting gang’s willingness to forge alliances with fringe groups.
By Tess Owen
October 10, 2023, 7:04pm
In what can only be described as a meeting of minds, the Proud Boys appear to have aligned themselves with an ultra-fringe religious sect in Pennsylvania that worships with AR-15s.
The Sanctuary Church, also known as Rod of Iron Ministries, is run by Pastor Hyung-Jin “Sean” Moon. Moon’s late father founded the international “Unification Church,” an alleged cult whose adoring followers were known as “Moonies.”
The younger Moon, with the help of his brother Justin Moon (owner of a gun company, Kahr Arms) founded his own church in 2017, putting a militant, AR-15 centric spin on his father’s teachings.
This weekend, the church hosted its fourth annual “Rod of Iron Freedom Festival” at the Kahr Arms warehouse in Greeley, Pennsylvania, about 45 miles from Scranton. The event included a performance by Pastor Moon, aka “King Bullethead,” who rapped about putting pedophiles in “the wood chipper.” It also featured a ceremonial burning of a pansexual Pride flag, speeches by failed local political candidates, as well as hard-right pundit and former Trump official Seb Gorka — and, of course, the Proud Boys. Some members of the church had traveled from as far as Korea and Japan to attend.
... the church has also cultivated local political influence that has helped draw the likes of the Proud Boys and “parents’ rights” groups Moms for Liberty into their orbit.
... the younger Moon has sought to embed his church not only in right-wing politics but in MAGA culture. Moon and other church officials were tear-gassed outside the Capitol on Jan 6, and Moon’s sermons can be labeled, broadly, as Christian Nationalist.

Excerpt that touches on Rod of Iron Ministries
And in Pike County, Pennsylvania, the local Moms for Liberty chapter has close ties to another extremist group: The Rod of Iron Ministries, the MAGA-loving religious sect that worships with AR-15s, whose leader was tear gassed during the Capitol riot, and which has close ties to multiple other far-right and Christian nationalist groups.
Rod of Iron Ministries, also known as The World Peace and Unification Sanctuary, is run by Pastor Hyung Jin “Sean” Moon. The gun-centric religious sect is a spinoff of the much larger Unification Church, run by Moon’s father, whose followers were known as the “Moonies.”
At the beginning of  the COVID-19 pandemic, Moon and his supporters began attending school board meetings to oppose mask mandates and school closures.
"I have been fighting Sean Moon's gun cult for 10 years, and now he was in the halls where my kids learn,” Amanda Pauley, a local parent and activist, told VICE News about seeing Moon at a school board meeting, adding: “It was obvious that they were really prepared at this meeting, more so than any other meetings. Every single person had a speech to read. They all walked in at the same time. The whole room clapped and cheered.”
The crowd responded to Moon’s speech, during which he called America “the least racist country on the planet,” with loud cheers and applause. One man sitting close by leaned over and shook Moon’s hand as he sat back down.
Sean Moon and the Rod of Iron Ministries did not respond to VICE News’ request for comment.
At the time Moon spoke at the board meeting, there was no Moms for Liberty group active in Pike County, but a chapter formed in November 2022 just weeks after the majority conservative board voted against an effort to ban “pornographic” books in the district. One of the leading members is Kerry Williams, who has close ties to the Rod of Iron Ministries.
Williams attends school board meetings on behalf of Moms for Liberty, and is one of the administrators for the Facebook page for the Pike County Moms for Liberty chapter. She has also spoken at the Rod of Iron Ministries events in the past and has even hosted a podcast for the gun-worshiping church that relayed parts of the church’s Sunday service. During some Sunday services, she can be seen on the altar where she is referred to as “Queen Kerry.” Williams did not respond to VICE News’ request for comment.
And just like Moms for Liberty has backed candidates for local elections, the Rod of Iron Ministries is following suit, running handpicked candidates not only for school board elections, but for county commissioner and town supervisor positions.

America’s Orange Jesus Has Clay Feet
Tumblr media
The expression feet of clay is meant to indicate the flawed earthly nature of man. Donald J Trump has always been a most unlikely candidate for saviour and champion of any group. White America and Christian Nationalists have got behind the former president as their guy they are hoping to put back in the White House. Trump is facing multiple criminal and civil indictments in courts across the country. Only the most partisan and cultish among his supporters could fail to recognise the writing on the wall when it comes to Trump’s likely fate. It tells us that America’s orange Jesus has clay feet.
Tumblr media
Trump’s Criminal Indictments Long Overdue
The really reprehensible fact of the matter is that Trump has got away with it for so many years prior to this impending time of judgement. It is a damning assessment of the justice system in America and conveys just how the wealthy and powerful evade their comeuppance. The rule of law seems not to apply to the politically savvy and those with deep pockets. The blatant nature of Trump’s crimes demand not only punishment but solutions for the loop holes within the system. I suspect that a key antecedent in all this is the fact Richard Nixon did not got to jail and was pardoned by Ford instead. Powerful people protecting the system and saving face at the expense of real justice. American Presidential Election In 2024 Under Orange Cloud The GOP, the Republican party, has morphed into an extremist organisation with no respect for the rule of law when it applies to them. Politicking has tipped over into insurrection and anarchy among their members and supporters. The Democrats are trying to keep the game called democracy going but their opponents no longer play by any rules. The coming 2024 presidential election has Trump the likely GOP candidate still claiming that his 2020 election loss to President Joe Biden was the result of election fraud. The Big Lie has been repeatedly debunked by numerous judicial and private enquiries and investigations. There was no voter or election fraud on the scale claimed by Trump. Indeed, Trump has been indicted on criminal charges of election interference for his attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. Trump is the pot calling the kettle black.
Tumblr media
The Agent Orange In America Perhaps, we should be calling Trump ‘Agent Orange’ rather than any reference to JC because he poisons the very air everywhere he goes.  I don’t know about you but I am heartily sick of reading, talking, and writing about Trump. I sometimes try and imagine the last decade without him on the political scene. This gross champion of the ugly American. The kind of folk who are happy to win at whatever the cost and don’t care who gets hurt in the process. MAGA invokes a return to a time of celebrated white supremacy at the expense of the usual suspects and victims. The constant threats from the hard right extremists. Gun violence everywhere. These folk want to bully their way back into power. The Trump coalition of disaffected non-college educated voters, Christian Nationalists, and big business is illogical at its core. Corporate greed has made the lives of working Americans miserable. Big business has screwed ordinary Americans for years, especially through the neoliberal decades since Reagan. Jobs have gone offshore and the financialization of everything has seen the rentier economy emerge. Private equity firms have turned health into a for profit nightmare for the working poor. Neocons blaming liberals and minorities is a deflection from the actual culprits within the economy. The politics of grievance have the Trump cult members dancing to a dishonest tune. Blaming immigrants, blaming woke, and blaming diversity inclusion measures are all BS distractions from the main game. Americans are so ready to eat up the old anti-socialist line, which has been handed down intergenerationally from fathers to sons and mothers to daughters. The big myth of the individual American, the lone cowboy making his way across the west on his way to success. It is all complete BS!
Tumblr media
Dopey working class Americans need to wake up to the reality of what Donald Trump is. A grifter and conman pretending to empathise with their values. A good salesman apes those he is targeting. Billionaires don’t really share the same grievances as the working poor – it’s a sham folks! America’s orange Jesus has clay feet. Indeed, he soon may well have an orange jumpsuit to go with his fake tan. Trump in prison for the rest of his life – I would like to see that. This may be the last hurrah for the ugly self-entitled American. Watching their hero go down for the count could be the turning point. We can only hope. “United Auto Workers (UAW) President Shawn Fain on Tuesday fired back at former President Trump after he called the union leader a “dope” for endorsing President Biden. Fain doubled down on his support for Biden and drew a stark contrast between Biden’s and Trump’s track records on supporting unions and the working class when asked on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” about Trump’s latest comments. “It’s a perfect contrast between the two candidates,” Fain said. “I mean, you have, for the first time in history, a sitting U.S. president joining working-class people, joining the workers on the picket line, standing up with them. And you had Donald Trump, who claims he supports the workers, who calls one of his business owner buddies in a non-union factory, and he goes to this non-union factory and has a rally claiming that he’s there for the union workers and the striking workers.” “It’s what Trump does best. It’s a rope-a-dope,” Fain continued. “He wants you to look over here while over here, he’s taking everything away. I mean, it’s the divide-and-conquer tactic, and that’s what’s worked for the billionaire class and the corporate class forever.” “ (https://thehill.com/business/4437518-uaw-president-fires-back-after-trump-calls-him-a-dope/) Robert Sudha Hamilton is the author of Money Matters: Navigating Credit, Debt, and Financial Freedom.

"GROOMERS": MAGA parents who sexualize and teach kids to shoot are the real problem
TARA DUBLINMARCH 24, 2023
Every accusation is a confession when it comes to MAGA propaganda, and Donald Trump’s MAGA fanatics constantly prove this point over and over without any help from liberals.
They’ve also been carefully teaching their kids for decades to hate and fear anyone who isn’t a “white Christian nationalist” which essentially translates into “Nazi” with just fewer words.
At the same time, House Republicans have been aggressively scapegoating drag queens as “groomers” while ignoring the presence of credibly accused sex trafficking Florida-man rapist Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and other members of their party who have been arrested for child porn.
The GOP also votes against SNAP and Social Security benefits while trying to destroy public education and attempting to loosen up regulations regarding gun ownership.
Their “New Baby Boom” plan is a thinly disguised plot to create an obedient white army of complacent haters.
How much more proof do you need that MAGA is an evil sex and death cult?
Check this Christmas card photo of Lauren “Squeaky” Boebert (Q-CO via “The Charles Manson Room” at a Boulder condo owned by Ted Cruz) and her four unfortunate sons, one of whom recently impregnated his underage girlfriend.
Granny Bobo is going to be a great-grandma by age 50 if she doesn’t teach the rest of her sons how to use birth control.
And then there’s Marjorie Groomer Taylor Greene, who won’t stop transphobically tweeting about kids’ genitals while letting Gaetz hang out around her three teenagers, two of whom are girls.
Thankfully there’s at least going to be some accountability for two MAGA gun groomers in Michigan.
The parents of Oxford High School mass shooter Ethan Crumbley (oh what a name), who killed four of his fellow students and injured seven others, are being charged with involuntary manslaughter because they bought their underage kid a gun.
The Michigan state appeals court said the mass shooting wouldn’t have happened if the Crummy Crumbleys hadn’t purchased the death weapon gun for Ethan, or if they had taken him home from Oxford High School on the day of the shooting when staff became “alarmed” about his extreme drawings, according to court documents.
The Crumbleys have said they’ll take their case to the Michigan Supreme Court, but I don’t love their odds.
“What a nice family they seem to be!”, said literally no one on Twitter.

OPINION: The Super Bowl represents everything wrong about America
VINNIE LONGOBARDOFEBRUARY 12, 2023
Somehow I didn’t get the sports gene — making me a rather atypical American male who doesn’t give a crap about the Super Bowl.
I’d rather read, listen to music, or go bird-watching for some superb owls than watch a bunch of testosterone-laden athletes give each other Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy in order to offer an opportunity for America’s richest advertisers to hawk their wares in between plays.
I know that as a hetero male with no interest in sports, I am in the extreme minority in this country, and many people would find it difficult to relate to me accordingly.
I certainly know that the position I am about to espouse will not be a popular one.
I will state it proudly anyway:
The Super Bowl represents everything that’s wrong with American culture and with American politics in particular.
American football, like any team sport, is based on a divisive, us-vs.-them mentality that pits two groups and their supporters in opposition.
And unlike the sport referred to as football in the rest of the world (it’s called soccer here), no ties or draws are allowed, meaning that only one possible victor is possible in the competition.
In that regard, it’s pretty much exactly like politics — although we rarely witness losers of crucial games go on extended rants claiming that the game was “rigged” and refusing to accept the results.
It’s a sport of winners and losers, mirroring the outcomes of our capitalist economy on its participants.
While many an imagining of utopia envisions a cooperative, competition-free society where everyone looks after their neighbors and values their well-being as much as their own, the reality of human selfishness and the complex tribalism of our planet’s inhabitants means conflict is inevitable.
Does this mean that passionate obsession with team sports must be as well?
The divisiveness and violence inherent in the Super Bowl are indeed representative of some of the worst aspects of American culture, but the commercialization of the event is equally emblematic of our society.
Only the most lucrative enterprises can afford to pony up for a Super Bowl ad, reflecting the economic inequality between wealthy and poverty-stricken families.
Moreover, the ads that these flush corporations run reinforce the notion that money can buy happiness and success.
And how many players, coaches, and fans will invoke their deity today, praying for victory or cursing their misfortune, in a transactional form of spirituality devoid of the golden rule?
Another thing: while politics may be just as competitive a team sport as football, at least the Democrats and Republicans have added a few females to their teams, unlike the NFL.
With the fracturing of the media landscape brought on by the nearly infinite choices now available on the internet, the Super Bowl is one of the last live media events that can attract the type of mass viewing audience that regularly helped shape a common culture back in the days when viewing was restricted to three major TV networks.
It’s a shame that the only nearly universally-viewed programming that exists today is a violent exhibition of conflict, aggression, and extreme jingoism.
If only the one TV broadcast that attracts the biggest audience encouraged cooperation, instead of competition.
Still, it’s foolish not to expect the Super Bowl to reflect the reality of American culture.
But one can dream, can’t they

Marjorie Taylor Greene Tells Americans To Ditch The Constitution For The Bible.
https://crooksandliars.com/2022/07/maga-tells-americans-ditch-consitution
The MAGA white Christian nationalism cult is now proudly telling America that the U.S. Constitution is moot and their Bible should rule the country.
During last week's Turning Point USA Student Action Summit in Florida, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene told Next News Network that the GOP should be the party of Christian nationalists.
“We need to be the party of nationalism and I’m a Christian, and I say it proudly, we should be Christian nationalists," Greene blustered.
“When Republicans learn to represent most of the people that vote for them, then we will be the party that continues to grow without having to chase down certain identities or chase down certain segments of people," she continued.
This is Steve Bannon's dream come true. Fascism at its core, backed up by wayward evangelicals.
