Margaret of Austria's Table at the Court of Savoy, Mechelen
Laid Table by Nicholaes Gillis, 1611 (Photo credit: https://www.wga.hu/frames-e.html?/html/g/gillis/laidtabl.html) When Maximilian I, Holy Roman Emperor, designated his daughter Margaret of Austria as his procurator of the Netherlands, she bought a complex of buildings in Mechelen located across the street from the home of his grandchildren, the son and daughters of Margaret’s brother, Philip…

Neighbors HCs
The Low countries being neighbors with the Germanic family.
- Netherlands and Germany trying to have nicer lawns than each other.
- Prussia and Czech blaring really loud music and Luxembourg knocking at the door asking them to please turn it down.
- Hungary coming over to visit Belgium one night, and the BTT convinces Prussia to play love songs from a boom box outside Belgium’s window. He does it. Hungary is flabbergasted and embarrassed. Belgium and Luxembourg stand in the window laughing their asses off.
- Austria getting kicked out of the house by the other two because he ‘isn’t german’ and staying with them for a few days until he can buy his own house.
- Belgium suddenly caring about helping Netherlands with the garden when Prussia invites Spain over.
- Germany seeking refuge in Netherlands garage when Prussia has friends over. They drink beer and watch soccer until the nightmare is over.
- Belgium and Prussia hating each other, but not really. They totally hang out if nobody else is around and hook each other up with their friends.

The UNRWA is concerned that if they do not receive more funding they will run out by the end of February please spread this message
in case any of you missed it, despite the ICJ's ruling for Israel to facilitate MORE aid into Gaza, the global west has responded by cutting funding to UNWRA, which is responsible for delivering significant amounts of aid into Gaza, as well as surrounding areas such as Lebanon. The countries cutting funding consist of the US, Australia, the UK, the Netherlands, Swritzerland, Italy, Germany, Finland, Canada and Japan. This was all due to a claim by Israel that members of UNWRA were Hamas-members or sympathisers which, at the end of the day, is a claim that concerns only 12 members in a total of 30,000.
Without proper funding, UNWRA is likely to run out of resources by February of this year (only another month) and urges the countries that have suspended donations to reconsider. This is a blatant move from the colonialist countries of this world to starve Palestinians even further when they are already facing unforeseen levels of famine.
Please take some time out of your day to call your reps, your political leaders and urge them to restart their funding. In the meantime, here is a link to donate to the UNWRA.

Christ at Emmaus
by Rembrandt van Rijn, 1648
-
St. Luke tells us that two of Christ’s disciples, walking from Jerusalem to Emmaus shortly after the Resurrection, were joined by a stranger.  When they reached Emmaus in the evening they asked him to stay with them for supper. “And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake and gave to them.  And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.”
A dim light, reflected by the white cloth on the table, illuminates the room. Four figures emerge from the deep surrounding shadows.  The man in front of the table has pushed his chair back and joins his raised hands in prayer; the seated man on the right, leaning forward, braces his right arm against the table and turns his chair around, his look fixed on Christ.  Christ in the center, his raised eyes reaching out into another world, breaks the bread.  “And their yes were opened, and they knew him.”
The innkeeper may feel that something unusual is happening, as shown by the reverence with which he approaches the guests - but he cannot know.  Doubt, questioning, awe mingle in the disciple on the right upon whom the revelation is dawning.  It has already taken hold of the other; he prays, he worships, he knows who the stranger is from whose head a magic light begins to radiate.
Through a process of selective simplicity everything is eliminated that does not directly reflect the divine nature of Christ and the emotional experience of the men.  Subtle details in contour, posture, and arrangement thus gain such an extraordinary suggestive power that they reveal the inner relationship between the figures more eloquently than gestures could do.
We must be willing to listen to a delicate music of inner voices if we wish to comprehend the message of the painting.  Adding to the group of figures the mighty sounding board of wall and niche in the background, Rembrandt helps us to participate in the dramatic tension vibrating between the figures of the Resurrected and the human beings in their struggle between faith and doubt.

send the screenshots to me via either email ([email protected]) or Tumblr DM, along with the character you want a sketch of and any references you have on hand.
Standard commission/request guideline applied. I'll run streams in the next four days (and perhaps after as well) on Youtube doing these sketches live - those will be announced on this blog as they happen.
I'm not currently affiliated with the Cartoonist Cooperative or any other artists doing the same drive, but if my art's not what you're looking for, definitely give the Coop's site as well as the e-sim tag on Tumblr a look! And if you're not looking for sketch commissions from me or art commission in general at the moment, I encourage you to donate an e-sim anyway if possible.
Thank you for your work and support - I can't wait to draw your character!

I feel like if you’re going to call something enemies to lovers there needs to be real hatred and preferably real stakes. Grumpy coworkers who don’t like each other could technically be enemies to lovers but that feels like stealing valor. Like they should be ENEMIES in a real sense. They need to be on opposite sides of some sort of conflict so that falling in love with each other amounts to a sort of transgression. That’s like half the fun
