New Longstar AU - A Journey and A New Land

Between Books

Brambleclaw asks for his suffix, claiming it as his way to claim power over his dishonorable Sire. That night, he wakes in a familiar place – the clearing where Tiger”star” was killed, and Bloodclan run off. Brambleclaw bows as his father, belly leaking red and black and thorny vines, approaches. Tigerstar’s grin is all teeth and menace, and he congratulates his kit for keeping the Clan’s trust in him…but this is only the start of their plans.

In Riverclan, Feathertail and Stormfur make their way. The siblings notice that the former loners Hawkpaw and Mothpaw bear a small resemblance to Tiger”star”, but agree that even IF they were somehow his kits, that the blood of their sire makes no difference on who they will be.

In Shadowclan, Tawnypelt feels the weight of her sire’s sins around her neck. With the help of Runningnose and Rowanclaw, she begins to heal.

In Windclan, Hopfoot announces his retirement, and Mudclaw is promoted to Deputy. Hopfoot’s adopted son Crowpaw and niece Nightcloud prepare a nest especially for him.

In the Hope’s Rest Clowder, Darkstripe and Sasha have been noticing more signs of Twolegs around their Camp, and begin making plans to move the Clowder entirely. A few cats express wishing to live in a forest.

In another place, an elderly cat named Skywatcher gathers Kittypets and Loners under his wings, hoping that others will come to take his burden and delight of a Clowder, and make them a Clan, before he passes away.

The Quest

In Thunderclan, the three kits of Longstar and Flamewish are being apprenticed. Tactician Graystripe has deduced that Swiftpaw’s anxiety would lead to her being a terrible Hunter or Brawler, and suggests Nursery Guard, which she happily accepts, apprenticing to Goldenflower and Brackenfur. Foxpaw wants to be a Warrior, and apprentices under Brightheart as her lead Mentor, with other cats there to help her learn other skills. Darkpaw asks to be mentored in the art of Healing, and apprentices under Fireheart and Cinderpelt.

Foxpaw is annoyed that Brambleclaw keeps interrupting her training sessions to give advice and tells him so to his face. He sputters, and gives a non-apology, but does back off. Brightheart thinks that he must be trying to be a better cat than his father, but Snowthorn just thinks he’s trying too hard. Shrewpaw makes funny faces behind Brambleclaw’s back during the non-apology and makes Foxpaw laugh.

Swiftpaw and Foxpaw tell their parents that they can sometimes talk to each other in their minds, and Historian Mousefur assures the worried parents that twin births sometimes Do That – it might be a Star Blessing, but that’s not always the case.

Darkpaw beings trying to figure out how to heal minds, as his father sometimes freezes up around the smell or sounds of dogs, and some cats are terrified of thunderstorms and even a hint of smoke on the wind. Fireheart asks Starclan for guidance on how to best help his nephew, and the Spirit of Goosefeather begins showing up with Yellowfang to build this new kind of healing.

Foxpaw begins having dreams about distant salty waters and a badger with starry eyes, with the sun drowning, and talks to Fireheart about it. He suggests it may be related to the sightings of Twolegs around the forest, and takes Foxpaw and Longstar to the Moonstone. They have a collective vision of the Clan lands being torn up by yellow Monsters, and of the Hope’s Rest Clowder being chased out of their camp by Twolegs with long silver looped sticks, and Longstar immediately starts making plans.

He sends a warning with Graystripe to the Hope Clowder, and warnings to the other Clans. Riverclan denies that anything like that could happen, Windclan starts making preparations, and Shadowclan admits that Twolegs have been marking some of their trees with orange markings. Hope Clowder is already mid move to a new Twoleg Den, one with more Twoleg decorations on it, but agree to be prepared to evacuate if Twolegs are sighted.

After some time has passed, Yellowfang appears to the whole LongFlame family one night, and says that Foxpaw needs to go on a Quest for a new home, as the Twolegs are planning to turn their territories into more Twoleg Dens. Flamewish makes Yellowfang promise to keep an eye on Foxpaw, and Yellowfang says that there are other cats from the Clans coming too. Foxpaw says goodbye to her family, her mentors, and Shrewpaw, before leaving. She meets Tawnypelt, Crowpaw, and Feathertail and Stormfur at the border, but is bothered greatly when Brambleclaw shows up, saying he’ll keep her safe.

The Questers make their way through the Twoleg Territory, skirting past Hope Colony’s old home, and eventually meet an old tom named Purdy. He guides them the rest of the way, becoming the Quester’s Grandpa, and they are sad to see him go. Crowpaw, Foxpaw, and Feathertail become close friends, with Tawnypelt and Brambleclaw bonding a little. Tawnypelt notes that her brother is a little distant, but chalks it up to their separation. Stormfur thinks Foxpaw is cute, but she’s also not an adult so he shakes it off. Crowpaw talks about how his parents found him – on the edge of the territory, sopping wet and terrified of unclear water. Ashfoot spoke of seeing a ghostly cat running from him, and assumed that was his sire or queen.

(They will never know it was a cat named Pine, who once walked the world in Thunderclan. He refused the gifts of Starclan for ages, and once he saved the innocent kit, he finally entered the fields he had abstained from. For once, he did the right thing for a kit of his bloodline.)

They meet with the starry-eyed badger Midnight, who confirms that their home is to be destroyed, so they must Journey past the great mountain to find their new home. As they leave, Midnight catches Brambleclaw by himself, and warns him that the path he walks leads only to a sudden sharp end. He shakes her off and continues on his way.

The group goes up the great mountain, and are stopped by a patrol of cats wearing mud and berry paint in swirling patterns. They are escorted to the Coldstone Clowder camp inside of a cave, with a great waterfall, a wide floor, and great stone teeth hanging from the ceiling. Feathertail shivers as she looks up, noting that they look so fragile. One of the cats that escorted them in, Brook, states that they are the teeth of the Sky Cat, which protect them from evil. The Questers meet with Stoneteller, both Leader and Seer, who advises them that he has Foreseen a silver cat stopping their Punishment - a Sharp Clawed Spirit that has tormented them for ages. When Stormfur asks what their Clowder was being punished for, Stoneteller sighs, and tells them that the Clowder has forgotten their crimes, though they must have been great. Foxpaw disagrees, this Spirit sounds like a Geist, and decides they must free the Clowder from their torments.

A plan is set – some freshkill is used to lure the massive Geist into part of the cavern, and then the Hunters, Stormfur, Brambleclaw, and Tawnypelt will leap on it and batter it. Crowpaw, Foxpaw, and Feathertail will distract it, along with some of the faster Hunters and Scouts. The plan starts perfectly – the great Geist comes into the cavern, its birch-bark pelt curling and jagged, its eyes dripping river weeds and mud. Foxpaw streaks over its paws, dodging slime and tree sap, and the attackers jump on its back, peeling the bark back farther to release murky water. This is what sends the plan reeling – Crowpaw sees the water and freezes. The hunters are battered, and Brambleclaw curses Crowpaw for cowardice. Feathertail sees a starry cat with silver fur, and sees what she has to do.

It CRACKS into the Geist’s back, pinning it to the cave floor, sending sap and water and mud out in a wild wave, soaking Crowpaw and Foxpaw, who had leapt to Crowpaw’s defense. The Geist scrabbles at the ground, and slowly whisps away like fog in a beam of sunlight, leaving only the clawmarks and the stone tooth, embedded in the floor as if it had grown there. And atop it, Feathertail, silent and still.

Stormfur wails, rushing to the limp body of his sister, as Stoneteller and the other Coldstone Clowder cats gather incredulously. Crowpaw leaps up to his friend, and screams. SHE’S STILL ALIVE!!!!!

Stormfur and Stoneteller carefully leverage the fallen cat to the softest nest the Clowder has, and Crowpaw lays at her head, apologizing over and over. Stoneteller shoos him, and Crowpaw weeps against Foxpaw, who assures him that it wasn’t his fault, that any one of them could have freaked out. Stoneteller declares that Feathertail will live, but he is unsure of what the damage to her back will do. Brook comforts Stormfur, and Foxpaw makes Crowpaw laugh a little by joking about Brook making moves on Stormfur.

After a day, Feathertail wakes, but she can’t feel her hindquarters at all. She stops Crowpaw from apologizing, and assures her friends that she will do her best to heal, but they have a job to do. Stoneteller promises to take care of Feathertail like one of his own Clowder, and Brook swears to personally keep Feathertail cared for. After a tearful goodbye, the five remaining Questers head down the mountain. They break through a fog bank, and behold the vista below them.

A grand lake, surrounded by woodland and marshland and moorland and a winding river. Birds fly past the group unafraid, and Crowpaw spies deer feeding in the distance. A small Twoleg Den sits on one side, with a Barn and strange creatures dotting the Twoleg Territory there. Near where the river meets the lake, another Twoleg Den sits, with a structure jutting out into the lake. It gleams with the rising sun, and it’s as close to perfect as the Questers will ever find.

The group heads back to the Coldstone Clowder, and after transporting Feathertail to see the view, the five Clan cats head back the way they came. Foxpaw tries to send Swiftpaw good vibes, but gets a strange feeling – like anxiety creeping up her tail and rooting in her spine. Something is terribly wrong. And as they come into view of the Clan territories, and see the devastation that the Twolegs have wrought, and understand.

The Time Between

While the Quest was going on, the Twolegs had begun their attack on the territories. All the Clans were under threat of starvation. Windclan found themselves poisoned by prey. Shrewpaw was nearly killed by a Monster – only saved by a shining Swiftspirit pulling him out of the way. His leg was still broken, but he would live. And worst of all, the Twolegs had set traps! The Clans would have lost so many, save that Sandstorm led a rescue mission – at the cost of the Monster holding the prisoners stealing the brave molly away.

The Hope Clowder had better luck at least – their new home was safe, as their old camp had been destroyed by Monsters as well, but at least they had a place to stay!

Preparations were made to move. Seers chipped pieces of the Moonstone away, to bring with them to their new home. Herbalists gathered their plants into carriable containers. Queens and Kings worked with Crafters to make kit-carriers. Hunters and Trackers took down every prey they found, and butchered the meat into transportable parcels.

And then the Questers returned.

The Journey

Foxpaw fell into her family’s embrace, crying with joy. Goldenflower held Brambleclaw, who reassured her he was FINE MA. Stormfur informed Leopardstar of Feathertail’s injury, and was welcomed back by Hawkfrost and Mothwing. Tawnypelt rushed into Rowanclaw, holding him like he was a treasure. Crowpaw ran into camp calling for his parents, and was swept up in their embrace, Nightcloud and her mate Gorseflicker dancing around them as Tallstar watched. Foxpaw was named Foxflight for her swift return, and she congratulated Swiftpool on her calm name. And Crowpaw requested he be named for the bravest cat he knew, and became Crowfeather.

Within three days, the dens were dismantled, the histories gathered, and every cat accounted for. But some of the Elders were too tired and weak, and Mudfur is recovering from an illness. As the Clans walked through the Twoleg Territory, a group of Hope Clowder cats stopped them – their leaders wanted to talk to the Leaders of the Clans before they left.

The Leaders, and the Elders so they could rest, were led to Darkstripe and Sasha, and Longstar asked what they wanted. Sasha explains that some of their more spiritually sided cats have had visions of a distant Clan of cats that need help – do they know anything about this? As she speaks, stars fall through a crack in the wall, and Willowpelt emerges. She greets the tearful Darkstripe, and confirms that the records are missing something – there once were five Clans.

The fifth, Skyclan were banished after the Leaders decided the fifth Tree at what became Fourtrees meant that Skyclan needed to leave. They were forced to split, some joining the Coldstone Clowder, others became Kittypets or Loners, and some joined the remaining Clans. The Leaders then forbid the Historians from ever speaking of Skyclan, leading to everyone forgetting them This was terribly wrong of the past Leaders, and now some of their descendants needed aid. Mudfur raises his head – I can do this. Frostfur agrees, followed by Loudbelly, and a Windclan Elder named Hollowback, then a Shadowclan Elder named Yewtail. Their Leaders confer, and agree as well, so long as the Hope Colony cats going along understand they’ll have to care for these treasured Elders. The Colony cats are brought in, and fervently agree, one tom named Macguyver vows to see them to Skyclan if it’s the last thing he does. The Elders say goodbye to the Clans, and the mass of cats departs.

As the Clan cats go up the mountain, an apprentice named Smokepaw almost falls off of a cliff, but is saved by Russetfur. This sets off a chain reaction that leads the Clans to become closer. Queens and Kings huddle together, their kits becoming friends. Apprentices chatter with each other, sharing tongues and stories. Historians compare notes, and Crafters compare techniques. Hunters and Trackers share notes and bring down prey together. Swiftpool finds herself becoming enamored with Crowfeather, and Crowfeather begins getting a crush on Swiftpool. Foxflight is not blind and needles them cheerfully, with the help of Shrewleg. Notably, Onewhisker keeps close to a slowly wilting Tallstar, and seems to be brown-nosing, at least according to Nightcloud. He only leaves the elderly Leader’s side to talk with Brambleclaw.

When the Clans reach the Coldstone Clowder, they shelter for a night in the cavern, Graystripe being reunited with Feathertail. She gets teary at Crowfeather’s name, and she and Stormfur decide to stay behind in the Coldstone Clowder, feeling more at home there.

The Clans marvel at the sight of the New Territory, but some cats wonder if Starclan came with them. These doubts are erased when every Senior Seer AND Healer get similar visions of past Seers or Healers, assuring them Starclan reaches as far as Silverpelt. As the cats bed down for the night, Barkface summons the Leaders to meet with Tallstar. When they enter the bush where Tallstar lies, it becomes very apparent what is happening.

Tallstar is dying, for the last time.

Mudclaw and Onewhisker stay at the entrance, Onewhisker shooting glares at the Deputy. Tallstar weakly asks Leopardstar, Longstar, and Blackstar to help his chosen Deputy guide his clan, and as he passes, names…Mudclaw. Onewhisker storms off, and Mudclaw lowers his head, mourning.

As this is happening, Hawkfrost and Mothwing meet with Brambleclaw and Tawnypelt, having deduced that the four share the same sire. As they’re talking, Foxflight and Crowfeather trot over to say hello.

And the Riverclan siblings freeze.

Foxflight asks if they sat on slugs, and Mothwing shakily says that she’s seeing a Spirit, Hawkfrost’s wavering voice rising. It’s our brother. Tadpole. We lost him when he…drowned… Crowfeather tilts his head. I’m not named Tadpole, but…you look familiar…and tells his story. Mothwing tears up – it’s you – oh Tadpole you’re ALIVE!!! Hawkfrost is blubbering, beaming hopefully. Crowfeather, shaking a little, smiles weakly – I think I remember you, oh Moth, oh Hawk! The three tumble into a teary embrace, with Foxflight and Tawnypelt cheering. Brambleclaw looks…angry, that the attention is off of him, but hides it quickly. Of COURSE he would be excited about another sibling, he’s just shocked!

The next morning, as Windclan mourns Tallstar, many wonder how Mudclaw will gain his nine lives, with no Moonstone. Darkpaw wonders as well, but is distracted by a tortie molly with a starry pelt. He grabs Sorreltail, and they follow the cat until she leads them to a pool of clear, shining water. With familiar shining stones at the bottom. Darkpaw and Sorreltail race back to the group excitedly, and when the Healers come to the pool, they collectively agree that this will be their new Moonstone. The Moonpool. Darkpaw is given his Healer’s name on the spot by Cinderpelt – Darkmoon.

Settling In and Blood Spilt

The Clans settle into their new camps, and it’s busy for quite a while. Camp Guards working with Crafters to weave new Dens, Herbalists and Healers planting their medicines and locating more, and Trackers and Hunters finding and tracking the lives of the new prey groups. Foxflight finds herself bothered by Brambleclaw, finding solace in her pseudo-uncle Ashfur and his mate Flyshadow, and her best friend Shrewleg. Eventually, they are forced to work together to drive off some Rogues that were harassing the border patrols of Thunderclan and Shadowclan. Blackstar is furious that Longstar stepped in, but comically backtracks when Flamewish steps up. She had recently helped dive out a badger, and is Not Amused by Blackstar’s nonsense. We help each other, Moronstar!

Unfortunately, Onewhisker leads a revolt against Mudstar, claiming that Tallstar named HIM Deputy on his deathbed, and that Mudstar is a False Star. This accusation brings Shadowclan supporters, and a fight breaks out, with Riverclan and Thunderclan supporting Mudstar. As Onewhisker yowls angrily against Mudstar, a tree falls upon him, and he is crushed. His body is retrieved, and the tree becomes the bridge to the new Gathering Place. (Brambleclaw seethes, as his ally falls. But he still has the Foxflight plan)

After some time, a Barn Cat named Daisy meets a patrol exploring the edge of the Twoleg Den. She asks if they protect kits, which Cloudtail affirms. She brings her three kits, Berrykit, Hazelkit, and Mousekit, to Thunderclan, saying that the Twolegs took her last litter, and she refuses to lose another to them. Longstar welcomes her, and asks if she wishes to have a Clan name. She passes, stating that she was named to honor her mother, and joins Thunderclan. Cloudtail is attentive to her, which bothers Brightheart. Thankfully, she communicates with her mate, and the three cats come to a romantic agreement. The kits are delighted to have three parents!

Swiftpool and Crowfeather begin having a secret relationship, though not quite as secret as they think. Hopfoot and Ashfoot exchange glances when their son looks so cheery, and Snowthorn pawspeaks jokes to Darkmoon about Swiftpool being obvious as a snowfall in Greenleaf. Eventually, they decide to run away together, thinking that their Clans would never let them be together. But that night they are stopped by Midnight, who tells them that her kin are attacking Thunderclan Camp. The pair split up, Crowfeather running to Windclan for backup, and Swiftpool rushing for home.

She enters camp to pandemonium. There are at least a half-dozen badgers, and she leaps at the one atop of Sootfur, saving his life. As she helps drive them off, she hears Darkmoon scream in anguish, then sees him pin a badger with a bloody face. Behind him, in front of the Healer’s Den, is a downed Cinderpelt. Suddenly, a Windclan Battle Patrol bursts into camp, finishing off the badgers. Swiftpool mourns the Healer alongside Darkmoon, Fireheart, and Flamewish, as Longstar confers with Mudstar. Eventually, she and Crowfeather are called to meet with their leaders, and they confess their affair, waiting for their punishments.

But instead, Flamewish whoops delightedly, Mudstar sighs and mutters about idiots not talking to their Leaders, and Longstar pats them gently, you are not subtle kits. Right there, Windclan and Thunderclan create a cross-clan relationship rule – so long as the Clans are at peace with each other, cats may be in relationships. The moon remains bright and clear, and Swiftpool and Crowfeather have official permission to date. The rule is added to the code at large, though Leopardstar seems somewhat iffy about it. But if the Stars approve, then who is she to deny them?

After some time, Brambleclaw keeps trying to flirt with Foxflight, even though she’s mates with Shrewleg. Eventually Fireheart steps in, and gives Brambleclaw a talk about consent, and taking NO for an answer. This is interrupted by Cloudtail rushing into camp with an injured Berrykit, who snuck out and got his tail stuck in a Twoleg snare. He loses the tail, but lives, and is scolded for leaving camp by himself. Brambleclaw gets an idea.

He meets every so often with Hawkfrost on the border, the pair complaining and training together. Hawkfrost admits to once having a dream of Tiger”star” calling him, but denied it after seeing a moth float by. It reminded him of the one time that he tried to fake a sign to make Mothpaw a Healer, but there was already a moth’s wing at the Healer’s Den. The pair both wish to be Deputies, and plan to become Leaders together.

On the evening of their last meeting, Hawkfrost feels a sense of unease. As he approaches the meeting place, he hears a commotion, and finds Longstar trapped by a Twoleg snare on his neck, Brambleclaw standing over him. Hawkfrost is horrified as Brambleclaw speaks, help me kill him, and Whitestorm when he makes me Deputy, and I’ll help you kill your opposition. We will rule TOGETHER!

And Hawkfrost?

Says NO!

The pair clash, with Hakfrost getting knocked around by the Miretrees-trained Brambleclaw, eventually being thrown next to Longstar. He sees the snare-thorn, and as Brambleclaw leaps at him, grabs the snare-thorn in his mouth

And

Stabs

Brambleclaw falls on Hawkfrost, and the Riverclan tom shoves his half-brother off, the snare-thorn lodged deeply in the Traitor’s throat. He frees Longstar, who coughs weakly, and thanks Hawkfrost for helping him. Blood spills into the lake. Hawkfrost vows to never become Leader – he will support his clan, but the shine of Leadership has been forever tainted by hot blood and shocked amber eyes.

(Brambleclaw wakes, coughing up blood and black ooze. His father sneers, what a failure…but we will try again)

And Swiftpool realizes she’s pregnant.

(Crowfeather denies that he fainted, it was a Manly Swoon. Foxflight disagrees heartily)

I recently read Crowfeather's trial. And I found your Nightpickle art. Do you happen to have any thoughts about them?

I have a lot of love for Nightcloud and Pickle, both as a romantic couple and just platonic.

The fact that, despite her temper, he treated her nicely or that even after he tried to get her stay, she still only had kind words about him

even Crowfeather admitted that Pickle had treated her nicer than he ever had - which granted, he's a huge piece of shit so the bar was low

I don't think either would want to leave their lives behind - Nightcloud would always want to be a Warrior and Pickle was comfortable as a kittypet - sometimes I imagine an AU where he moved into the barn and Nightcloud would visit him often to just hang out and even maybe let Pickle complain about Smoky being a bit much to deal with

even if Nightcloud isn't the perfect cat, she deserves a lot better than how Crowfeather treated her.

Kit guardian AU anon here! (Who may actually eventually write something for it, I’m kinda loving it…)

Anyways, more trivia time cause again- I’m kinda obsessed with it!

Due to Mapleshade’s whole thing, the clans are more accepting of outsiders to their clans- especially kits. Because of this, there are quite a few loners and kittypets accepted into the clans (mainly WindClan).

RiverClan has Sasha, Tadpoleleap, Mothwing, and Hawkfrost. Mapleshade does rounds in the twoleg place as well because of the whole incident with Tiny and finds Tadpole about to drown. She saves him and after Sasha thanks her, Mapleshade realizes that Hawk looks an awful lot like Tigerstar. And since she has no tact whatsoever, basically states that. And then proceeds to bring them to RiverClan because she still dislikes RiverClan and thought it would be karma to force them to take in a mother who nearly lost her kit to drowning after they turned her away.

ThunderClan has Icefur (Scourge), Firestar, and Brookshine (Princess). Mapleshade found Princess about to give Cloudkit up and convinced her to bring the entire litter to ThunderClan. She didn’t stick around, but when Princess tells the clan a large tortoiseshell brought her there, Bluestar in particular realizes it was the Kit Guardian and they are accepted with little resistance. As a side note, Cloudtail, his brother Breezefur, and his sister Petalfoot become mates with Brightheart, Lynxlight (Lynxkit- Swiftpaw’s sister), and Swiftspirit (Swiftpaw) respectively. The entire group is super close and Brightpaw, Swiftpaw, and Lynxpaw all managed to survive the dogs because there was three of them (they still get named Lostface, Dogthroat, and Brokenfoot). Also Icefur is mates with Nighttooth, Tigerstar’s sister just because I find it funny.

ShadowClan has the least amount of rogues, with it just being Russetstar and Boulder at the time of TNP. They do gain a few at the Lake territories, namely Scorchfur, Snowbird’s mate.

WindClan has the most. Mapleshade saw Onewhisker turn Smoke away and went “ahahaha, no.” And brought her to WindClan’s camp and marched in to the shock of the entire clan and slapped Onewhisker. “You will let the kittypet you knocked up stay here or so help me I will rip your entrails from your body and paint the territory with them.”

Yeah, Whitetail (pregnant with her and Onewhisker’s second litter) hears this and is about as horrified as Smoke is to learn Onewhisker was cheating on her. They both dump him unceremoniously and lean on each other for support as they raise their litters together. By the time Po3 rolls around, they’re mates and Whitetail has his third litter with a donor (which in this au is actually not that strange)

But WindClan also has Nightcloud, a random loner they took in, and Owlwhisker, Leaftail, and Weaselfur are all brothers who were kits when BloodClan was doing their whole messing with the clan’s thing after the BloodClan battle. Brownstep (Brownpaw from ShadowClan) and Blossomsong (Blossompaw from ShadowClan) were the two kit warriors who chose to stay in WindClan after WindClan returned and later became mates. They find these three kits battling alongside adults and immediately decide “nope, these are ours now” and take them in.

And since I really don’t have anywhere to put it, due to Stonefur surviving and being Graystripe’s father in this AU, Graystripe returns to RiverClan after the BloodClan battle. Eventually, he and Mosspelt (the queen who fostered Feather and Storm and who, if you look at the timeline of her pregnancy… basically got pregnant as an apprentice or within days after her ceremony by Frogleap) become mates, healing from their trauma together and Graystripe fathers Willowkit (Willowshine- named after his mother Willowpelt), Rainkit (Rainstorm) and Mintkit (Mintfur). He does still get captured and does still bring Millie with him but she decides to go to ThunderClan while he returns to RiverClan.

I want to do a rewrite and a family tree (I swear all wc fans rewrite at least one book and we should lol) but I'm not sure how to start, if you don't mind me asking did you just start with one scene you wanted to change and go from there? like I have so many ideas but they are Not coherent yet

i had literally never heard of someone doing a rewrite for a book/series (or like, at least ones still on going) before re-immersing myself into the warrior cats fandom and now there's like hundreds to maybe even thousands of people rewriting a series that's still under copyright and still ongoing

it's such a very specific and very special relationship the readers have with this series where we HATE this series so much that we rewrite it because we LOVE this series so much

anyway i'm gonna be honest i don't know where i started

i think i was just thinking of like a whitestorm becomes leader au and then sandstorm becomes leader au and goldenflower being deputy au AND like thrushpelt still being alive as an elder when rusty joins thunderclan and i think i just started imagining the scenes of the first book and firepaw and sandpaw's relationship evolving and pinestar being the reason tigerclaw hates kittypets and darkstripe being the one to start the fire in the thunderclan camp on tigerstar's orders to try to get his kits and kill bluestar and tallstar and jake being fireheart's biological parents and replacing swiftpaw with brackenpaw because graystripe was slacking on being a mentor and goldenflower being the one to get the final blow to take the rest of tigerstar's lives

and then ALSO just really liking squirrelflight x nightcloud and then things just unfurled

y'know what? I want an AU in which Gorsepaw lives, and ends up becoming leader in lieu of Onestar

Gorsepaw never forgets how Fireheart and Graystripe brought his Clan home, but learns not to let that gratitude blind him - they are still ThunderClan, and his priority must be WindClan

But Onewhisker's friendship with Fireheart allows for Gorsepaw to keep that connection to the ginger warrior as well

Gorsepaw later becomes Gorseheart, a funny coincidence but he's not actually named after Fireheart

Gorseheart later goes on to mentor Nightpaw, later Nightcloud, around the same time Mudclaw receives Crowpaw as an apprentice

Same events happen in TNP, with Nightpaw receiving her warrior name, Nightcloud, before the journeying cats return - Gorseheart is proud of her, and Tallstar takes notice that he has formed into a fine, compassionate warrior; a far cry from his more aggressive deputy, Mudclaw

When the Clans reach the lake, the same events in canon continue, up until Tallstar denounces Mudclaw's position to Firestar, Brambleclaw, and Onewhisker - Gorseheart is to lead WindClan

Onewhisker makes the announcement to the rest of his Clan, and Gorseheart is shocked - some of his Clanmates, despite their stunned confusion, support him, while others do not

Mudclaw is, of course, the first to protest, snarling that of course they would make the claim of Gorseheart becoming leader - two Thunderclan cats and Firestar's Windclan kittypet present for Tallstar's "announcement", picking a young, soft-hearted warrior who's no better than his former mentor

Gorseheart tries to make peace and offers Mudclaw to remain deputy until they can figure out a way to speak to Starclan to figure out what to do, but Mudclaw refuses

Troubled and unsure of his new responsibilities, mixed with the pressure of dissent amongst his Clanmates, Gorseheart reluctantly takes control as leader and appoints Ashfoot as his deputy - she's older, but far more respected in Windclan than he

A civil war still breaks out, with involvement from the other Clans, and Mudclaw still dies when the tree falls - Starclan has sent a sign confirming Gorseheart's position as leader, and later on when the Moonpool is discovered, he officially becomes Gorsestar

Gorsestar, unlike his mentor in canon, isn't pressured enough to become hostile to the other Clans - he puts Windclan first, encouraging his Clan to take pride in themselves, but knows there are times where help from the others Clans will be necessary

While peaceful and more open, much like Firestar, Gorsestar is no stranger to battle, and will fight fiercely when the time calls for it - his Clan is not soft, nor are they dependent on their Thunderclan neighbors

Farther down the line, when Shadowclan is struck by yellowcough, Gorsestar is willing to allow a small Shadowclan patrol join his Clan back to their territory to gather lungwort - there's no reason to deny them the herbs they desperately need to find

He keeps WindClan's borders open, and is one of the first to agree to joining the other four Clans in battle against the Kin, and is one of the first to defend Skyclan, arguing for them to return

By the time TBC takes place, Gorsestar is old, and is slowing down - he actively argues against "Bramblestar", finding his claims and behavior suspicious, but it doesn't stop his Clan, and his new deputy Harespring, from worrying

But Gorsestar's age begins getting the best of him, and even though he's not dead, Harespring assumes more and more responsibility - going as far as to side with Bramblestar, and lead his Clan into battle against Shadowclan, Skyclan, and the Rebels, just narrowly avoiding being killed by Lionblaze

It's later revealed Gorsestar has died, and it's unclear if Harespring will ever be able to receive his nine lives

Warriors Canon Rewrite AU - Into The Wild

(I hope the formatting is okay!)

The Prologue occurs, mostly the same. The RiverClan battle ends with Oakheart and Redtail’s deaths, and Spottedleaf receives a prophecy, although speaks that it says ‘Fire will both save and destroy our clan’.

Rusty wakes and decides to head into the forest, bored with kittypet life. He is attacked by Greypaw and instinctively fights back, before then meeting Bluestar and Dappletail, the latter being Greypaw’s mentor. He is invited to join ThunderClan, due to his bravery, although misses the desperation in Bluestar’s eyes.

Rusty decides to leave his life behind and join ThunderClan. He goes to the same spot as last night, meeting two new warriors - Lionheart and Whitestorm.

He is escorted back to the camp by the two warriors, where Bluestar announces that Rusty is to join ThunderClan. This is met by lots of resistance and hesitation, and a warrior named Longtail steps up to protest in anger.

Rusty and Longtail clash, and Rusty’s collar is torn off. Remembering Spottedleaf’s prophecy from the night before, Bluestar names him free from his kittypet life and gives him the name Firepaw.

As most of the clan welcome Firepaw, Ravenpaw bolts into camp in fear. He announces that Redtail died during a battle with RiverClan, before passing out from shock and wounds. The medicine cat, Spottedleaf, runs out and takes Ravenpaw away, although there is grief in her eyes about the news.

Tigerclaw enters the camp with the rest of the patrol (Mousefur, Willowpelt, Dustpaw and Rosetail) with Redtail’s body. He says that he killed Oakheart in revenge for the other killing Redtail, and Firepaw instinctively dislikes Tigerclaw. The duo has a brief exchange of words, where Tigerclaw promises he will watch Firepaw closely.

The warriors head forwards to say their goodbyes to Redtail, then move away. Those closest stay to groom him and ready themselves for the vigil. After making sure everyone is okay, Spottedleaf joins them.

Greypaw heads over to Firepaw and starts explaining a bit more about clan life, and he shows Firepaw around:

The Medicine Den. Spottedleaf is the current medicine cat, and the duo meet Ravenpaw and talk to him about the battle, although the young apprentice is traumatised.

The Nursery. Tansystripe is curled up at the back, heavily pregnant. Goldenflower sits by her with Swiftkit by her side, not wanting to come over to Firepaw. However, Frostfur heads to them since her mate brought Firepaw back and she trusts his judgement, telling her four kits to stay and play at the back of the nursery. Cinderkit and Brackenkit come over to say hi irregardless.

The Apprentice’s Den. It is currently empty as Dustpaw and Sandpaw are grieving for their mentor and father respectively. Whilst there, Firepaw chooses a nest.

The Warrior’s Den. They don’t go in out of respect but Firepaw is surprised by how big it is and how the cats sleep so close together.

Bluestar names Lionheart the new deputy, and gives him Firepaw as an apprentice. He and Greypaw train a lot with Dappletail and Lionheart, and Tigerclaw tags along as Ravenpaw is healing, seeming unhappy with progress.

The gathering happens but Firepaw stays behind. He hears of WindClan leaving afterwards.

Firepaw catches his first mouse and tastes forest food, knowing he has now made the right choice.

2 moons pass. Tansystripe has her kits (Cloverkit, Softkit, Smokekit, Pebblekit and Cedarkit). Swiftkit is apprenticed and given to Longtail, who softly accepts him. Goldenflower moves out of the nursery, while Brindleface moves in, expecting an unknown cat’s kits, and Speckletail moves in, expecting Smallear’s. During this time, Firepaw and Spottedleaf have grown a lot closer, but only as a mother/son relationship.

On a solo hunting mission, Firepaw comes across an exiled Yellowfang, who he only defeats because she is weak and she lets him. He spares her and starts to provide for her, taking pity on her.

A patrol arrives (Bluestar, Tigerclaw, Darkstripe, Ravenpaw, Patchpelt), and escorts them back to camp. Firepaw is not allowed to eat, and Lionheart punishes him by making him take care of Yellowfang and not go on warrior training. Spottedleaf often helps him, recognising Yellowfang, and the trio become close.

Yellowfang snaps at Tansystripe’s kits as they play outside for one of the first times, but only out of fear as she says ‘bad things happen to kits’ when she is there. Firepaw takes pity and decides to hunt with Ravenpaw and Greypaw, planning on bringing Yellowfang the mice he catches. Tigerclaw doesn’t let him.

Firepaw is sent on a solo hunting mission and meets Smudge, catching up about Firepaw’s new life. Tigerclaw sees and tells Bluestar, but Firepaw denies wanting to return to his roots. Ravenpaw catches an adder, and Bluestar is pleased, letting all three apprentices go to the gathering.

At the gathering, Ravenpaw tells the story of the battle to several out-of-clan apprentices, and Firepaw sees the other two clans remaining clearly. Brokenstar’s warning of a dangerous rogue makes him think of Yellowfang, who he becomes worried about.

Firepaw, Ravenpaw, Greypaw head to the moonstone for their trip alongside Tigerclaw, as Dustpaw and Sandpaw had gone a moon and a half earlier.

On the way back from Highstones, the cats meet Barley, a friend of Bluestar’s. Ravenpaw and Barley click right away, getting on like really good friends. Rats attack, Bluestar loses a life and lies about having 4 left when she later reveals to Firepaw that she has two.

ShadowClan has attacked ThunderClan while the others have been gone. Lionheart is killed in the battle, and Yellowfang stops Blackfoot from attacking the nursery and getting to Frostfur’s kits. She joins ThunderClan as a second medicine cat at her and Spottedleaf’s request. After, the cats close to Lionheart sit vigil. The next morning, Firepaw is given Goldenflower as a temporary mentor, although notices she is often close to Tigerclaw as well as Patchpelt, making him wary. Tigerclaw is announced as deputy.

Tigerclaw starts to turn the clan against Ravenpaw to save his own skin, succeeding with Darkstripe and Longtail, and starting to with Dustpaw, although he and Ravenpaw are kin.

Spottedleaf tells Yellowfang and Firepaw of the prophecy, and how Bluestar was desperate for Firepaw to be named as such to try fulfill the prophecy, seemingly losing trust that StarClan would show them the way.

Ravenpaw reveals the truth about what happened at the battle, and how Tigerclaw killed Redtail.

Brindleface gives birth to Ashkit, Fernkit, Elderkit and Tulipkit. Due to overhearing, Firepaw learns that Darkstripe is their father.

Tansystripe’s kits go missing, and Spottedleaf is found mortally wounded. The clan suspect Yellowfang, who has gone missing, and a few cats try to treat Spottedleaf.

Firepaw, Greypaw and Ravenpaw track down Yellowfang, who reveals the truth and that she was tracking the kits to stop Brokenstar using them. She was also injured in the attack with Clawface, but had no idea Spottedleaf was so bad.

Ravenpaw goes to live with Barley out of fear, leaving Yellowfang to also keep this secret.

Yellowfang goes to gather help from inside ShadowClan, returning with ShadowClan elders (Nightcloud, Dawncloud, Ashfur) and a few bereaved queens (Fernshade, Featherstorm). A ThunderClan patrol (Whitestorm, Darkstripe, Runningwind, Mousefur, Willowpelt) agrees to help, and the cats rally forces.

They attack ShadowClan after luring the other cats out. Brokenstar reveals that he killed Mintkit and Marigoldkit, but finds that the clan turns against him. He flees, with Clawface, Stumpytail, Tangleburr and a small kit. The battle is won, but Softkit is found dead with wounds given by the kidnapping, that became infected. Cedarkit is also missing, and later one of the ShadowClan warriors reveals that he was the apprentice/kit who fled with Brokenstar, that Firepaw had fought with.

Yellowfang opts to stay in ThunderClan to care for Spottedleaf, becoming the second medicine cat.

Firepaw and Greypaw get their warrior names - Fireheart and Greystripe - for excellence during the battle. Dustpaw and Sandpaw get annoyed that someone younger than them is a warrior. The duo go to sit vigil.

Howdy y’all, I’m back at again with the AU - I can’t promise one a day lore dumps after this, because I only have up until the Battle against the Dark Forest - and then it’s just little details and disconnected thoughts at the moment, but I’ll give what I’ve got until it’s complete. And thanks for the likes and follows - it’s really flattering for someone not in my direct friends/family to like my stuff. Anyhoo enough feelings lets goooooo!

Biggest difference, Skyclan. Wasn’t reformed just yet, but I’ll get to that shortly. Longstar’s sight is beginning to fail him, but he can still see the colors of his grandkit’s pelts. Another difference, because of the cross-clan-relationship-agreement, the Three are well aware of their parentage - he visits at least twice a moon, and was there to see them apprenticed off. They’re well loved, have plenty of support from families in both clans, especially their aunt Foxflight and Uncle Shrewleg. Those two have been trying for kits, but Shrewleg’s injury may have left him unable to father any kits - but they don’t mind it too much. Maybe someday. And Whitestorm, beloved Deputy, has stepped down. His age is starting to catch up, and he’s happy to help out, but he knows leadership just isn’t in his future. He suggests Brightheart, who happily accepts as Cloudtail and Whitewing cheer ecstatically! Pretty sure the Tribe heard that!

Lionpaw apprentices to Darkmoon, with Fireheart acting as support mentor if needed. Jaypaw gets two mentors, Brightheart for his regular training, and Snowthorn for working with his senses - Brightheart translates Snowthorn’s sign language when his words just don’t work as well. Eventually Longstar joins the sessions when his vision dims. And Hollypaw isn’t as much a stickler for the Code, understanding that rules can change, and she stands as evidence of that. She’s aiming for Deputy, hopefully Leader, but is content to support her clan how she can. Canon continues until...

At the Gathering, Jay hears Mousepaw flirting with Minnowpaw, and wonders if there’s going to be another cross-clan couple. But as he’s telling Hollypaw, there’s a commotion at the back of the crowd. A pair of mollies appear - it’s the long thought dead Sandstorm! And some kittypet but Sandstorm yaaaay! Foxflight nearly knocks her over in excitement, and Longstar greets his missing clanmate. Coldlight actually shows an emotion! The Gathering disperses, and Greystripe offers to escort the kittypet, oh your name’s Millie? An honor madame I am -enchanted- to meet you. It’s apparent immediately that they’re making heart eyes at each other but it’s cute! Millie and Daisy have a giggle about how cute and chivalrous he is.

When Sandstorm settles back in, she grabs Longstar, Fireheart, Flamewish, Darkmoon, Foxflight, and Swiftpool and tells them her adventure. She was adopted by a twoleg who owned Millie, and the two escaped fairly quickly. She met an elderly tom named Skywatcher, and founded Skyclan again, leaving Leafstar in charge, and receiving a prophecy about Three of Flame and Fire’s kin. It’s agreed to keep it quiet until they’re all sure about who it’s about. Could be Swiftpool, Foxflight, and Whitewing? Cloudtail no probably not him. The competition! Lionpaw’s back at camp, and Jaypaw’s having a rest, Lionpaw has a vision of Hollypaw and another dark-pelted cat falling, and feels choked by dust and dirt, and Jaypaw sees the vision as a dream. The two call for aid, and Hollypaw and Breezepaw are rescued from the old fox den. Jaypaw is suspicious, but maybe it’s a triplet thing? He and his sibs have always been super close. Hollypaw and Breezepaw begin a very odd friendship, as Crowfeather is his father, but only as a surrogate for Nightcloud - those two are just good friends, but Breezepaw wants a close relationship. The unlikely half-sibs decide to meet up every few nights, in secret, as insisted by Breezepaw. He doesn’t want his mom to know he’s being -social-. Canon continues until...

Late after one meeting, Hollypaw, who told her parents about the meetings because she’s not a fool, wanders through a part of the forest that looks unfamiliar. She hops over a root, and two large brown tabby toms are waiting for her - Tigerstar and Brambleclaw! They try to woo her into training with them, promising to make her a great warrior. She blinks, and then laughs right in their faces, like absolutely loses it. Why would she want to train with two cats who lost? Like really badly lost? Ohohoho how funny! She leaves, chuckling, and the next thing she knows, she’s in her mossy bed, in the apprentice den. What a weird dream! Meanwhile Tigerstar and Brambleclaw are seething, but vow to try again at a later night.
