Ok so this took a bit longer than I wanted and turned out not exactly has nice as I hoped but my entry for @journeythroughjourneytothewest for chapter 1 is now finished.

While rereading the first chapter it dawn to me that the way the birth of our favorite monkey is described felt like the development of a young mind as it comes in to the world, then as the chapter progress our now protagonist develop more sense of self and becomes his own person(or monkey) and so I decide to represent him coming from the rock as a little cub new to the world.

Also since Tumblr mobile suck I will re log the two remaining images that I couldn’t put here.

As I am now more free I will try to make more simple sketch for the next chapters and I hope you enjoy them a little :)

Little Spoilers

So watching for the tenth time season 4 I think I have come to a conclusion regarding many things related to Wukong. The first and most obvious thing is that he needs therapy, that monkey needs professional help and urgently.

To begin with it is already quite evident that everything that happened with the sky and in the trip to the west was traumatic for him, I mean it was already evident before, for no reason you isolate yourself in a mountain for hundreds of years.

But the conclusion I came to was not the obvious, but something that could have been in sight from the beginning.

What if he really doesn't remember what happened on the trip, what happened during the war against heaven? What if it really wasn't "him" when he fought Macaque or any of his other sworn brothers?

What am I getting at you may ask, well I was doing some research on trauma and methods of coping with traumatic events and I found some interesting things.

Like for example; that our brain can hide or modify memories of traumatic and/or stressful events to prevent our body and mind from undergoing changes, which in the long run causes problems like anxiety and depression.

As also our brain "blocks" during a traumatic event where our impulses and our instincts go into action in a violent and / or aggressive way.

Also during or after a traumatic event we tend to glorify and justify the aggressor and/or abuser, where the person ends up seeing himself as inferior or deserving of what is happening.

And what do I mean by this and what does it have to do with Wukong, well, Wukong shows signs of having lost or altered his memory in certain moments such as the death of Macaque and the events in the trip to the west, Wukong recognized many of the things that happened in the past with Macaque, and that hurt him, but never that he killed him, he never recognized that fact, maybe he does not remember that it happened that way? And also everything that happened in the trip to the west, although we do not know much of its canon in the series, we have the book and we can say that it was very bad and the golden crown was a torture for Wukong. A torture that left him marked throughout the years, and a punishment that he thought he deserved, even though most of the time the monk used it unjustly and for stupid reasons, and, even so Wukong always defended the reasons of his master and his brothers leaving them as the good guys and him as the "bad guy".

And maybe that justifies the reason why Macaque was there that day to help Wukong to free himself from captivity but we all know what happened. Now the mystery is with Azure and the others, will it be the same as with Macaque? At least in the flashbacks they are shown very close, and wouldn't one brother come to rescue the other from his suffering? And maybe everything ends like with Macaque and that's why he says he betrayed them?

And yet Wukong doesn't remember him or at least not at all, which makes his fears and insecurities show up in the ink, just like with the other characters.

J’ai retrouvé un très….vieux dessin pendant que je cherchais ce que je pouvais terminer de dessiner; et je suis tombé sur ce petit Wukong ^^ que j’avais refais. J’avais totalement oublié ce comic jusqu’à ce que je retombe sur le dessin. J’aimais tellement. Bref, le pauvre était seul, donc je lui ai rajouté des potes.
