KYLE CROUSE: Next, Murdercide626 has a question. "How would you go about adapting Naugus into the games? What changes might you make to the character? Classic or Modern? And what kinds of interactions would he have with Eggman, if any?"

IAN FLYNN: Okay, hear me out, 'cause this is... I'm alone on this hill for this idea, okay? I freely admit that this is- this is the bonkers take, but hear me out: completely remake him as a Zeti. Okay? KYLE: Uh... y'know... y'know... IAN: He's already some weird monster man, it wouldn't take a whole lot to adjust him to still be familiar but be more Zeti-like. And instead of him being able to use his EM powers to control machines, he uses it to mess with the bio-electrical signals in your brain, so he has the mind control angle. KYLE: Hmm... okay, so he would be a modern character then, huh? IAN: Yeah. And all you gotta do is turn that 'N' sideways, and he's Zaugus. KYLE: [laughing] Zaugus! Well, I think you've done it, Ian. You have done it. Good old Zixis Zaugus. [chuckles] What kind of interactions would he have with Eggman, then? Would he manage to mind control Eggman? IAN: Yeah, like maybe Eggman's comin' in to invade and he's, y'know, EM-shielded all of his robots and gloatin' over the fact that the Deadly Six can't take control of them. Zaugus saunters on up, and is like [Ixis Naugus voice] "I may not control them, but I can control you!" Zoop! Mind-grab. KYLE: Boy, that-- IAN: [Mentok from Harvey Birdman voice] "That's taking the mind, Kyle!" KYLE: [laughing] That is horrifying! That's like... that is very- that is scary! Like, I think he might actually take over Eggman in terms of villainy in the series at that point. Hm. IAN: Like, maybe limit it to, like, it's gotta be within eye contact, it's gotta be point-to-point... maybe he can only really control one person at a time. But if you've got the keys to Eggman's Empire, or if you're using Sonic as your personal RC combatant, you can do some damage. I don't know, I think it could work. I think it could be neat. I- I also know it's a big ask of the SatAM crowd, but I don't know. I like it. KYLE: I- Someone- you could make it work! It could work. Someone's going to draw this, Ian. You know they will. IAN: Oh, go for it. KYLE: Let's see it! IAN: Even- you can keep, like, the mutant crab claw on the side as like, just extra weirdness. KYLE: Sure, sure. IAN: Give him back his old tail from SatAM that got forgotten in the Archie books. KYLE: [chuckles] Nice.

Sally and Shadow have a similar amount of depth to their stories.

A lot of Sonic fans don't like Sally, and a lot of them attribute it to her Lore being complicated

Even though we have Shadow's story right there

Not to dis on Shadow.

Shadow and Sally have really over complicated backstories. And they both work inside the Sonic universe.

They both talk about how lost you can feel when someone manipulates you, and breaking away from people's control over you will make you whole again.

They do take one different meaning and different goal for each: Sally is a lot more focused on helping her people be free even if it kills her, Shadow's honors Maria's wish to portect humanity but will do it in his own way following his path.

Their plot lines are so strong that a lot of the comics/games stories have a big focus on them, considering how detailed their stories are. So much so that you can say Shadow & Sally have their personal Villains (Black Doom, Mephiles, Infinite) & (Ixis Naugus, the SoA, King Max).

Now, they aren't inherently tied to Shadow or Sally, but they connect to their backstories that they have a bigger connect that even Sonic does.

End of my rambling

But yeah, this is all to say that Sally works in the Sonic universe, be it JP or US.

Not a fan of Geoffrey St. John as a guy, but man, am I obsessed with this guy in a "I want to see his very tragic backstory and then torture him for eternity because he's actually a fucking horrible person"

And it was this fucking page that made me have this feeling ESPECIALLY

The raw hopelessness of laying curled on the ground, knowing you're never getting out of the situation YOU put yourself in in the first place (<- half projecting)

Started out as a way to gauge my Sonic design skills, became a months long AU challenge in the making

Basically what if Sonic got stuck on yet another island but it's actually one he's been to before? (Spinball happened in the past/classic ofc)

The gist (liable to change):

Crystal structures called The Void have taken over Mt. Mobius and its islands. Only six escapees remain, who have been supposedly cut off from the world due to The Void's interference, fighting for what left of their freedom. Will Sonic be able to help his old friends/acquaintances and get off the island before they get crystallized?

I may post their individual designs later!

No, serious doubt here...

How much are you guys bothered by the "everyone is royalty" stuff from Archie Comics?

It seems like if the character were important, they would become royalty in some point! THAT'S SOO BORING!!

We start it good having only Sally and later Sonic because he's her destined boyfriend or some nonsense... And Antoine being only highly related to the royalty because royal guard father and stuff.

But then comes Amy, who's cousin of Rob, who's a king.

We had an entire issue focused only in reveal that Charmy is a prince 🤣🤣🤣🤣 and I can't be serious talking about it.

We had also Khan, I won't lie, I liked him... Until the point when he was revealed as the "King of the Free People" or some bullshit

We had Shadow becoming King Shadow in the Light Mobius alternate future.

We had Scourge becoming King Scourge, doing in Moebius what Shadow would do if wasn't Sally's interference.

Being the guardian of the Master Emerald seems a political role equivalent to monarchy, because God, they had even a council formed by the predecessors.

Espio is son of the leader of a clan (Bride of whatever), what's almost a queen since together they had enough impact to REJECT Snively's girlfriend's reign.

I wonder how it would follow 🤔🤔🤔...

Like, would later be revealed that "Silver's the, for long waited, destined king of the Knights of Kronos and that's why he's above time alterations and distortions"?

Honestly, in the pace the stuff was following, I wouldn't get surprised if Vector's "huge secret" was that he was a denying prince from Downunda all along.

Weren't the Babylon Rogues related to the Battle Bird Armada and the BattleLORD Kuku _insert roman numerals_ ?

LET'S NOT FORGET THAT BUNNIE WAS NIECE OF ONE OF THE GRANDMASTERS OF THE EGG LEGION!!! "But that's not equivalent to king in anyway, Eggman was already emperor" Yes, buuuuuut, if Eggman had ever succeeded in world domination, his empire would be the whole globe... Who do you guess that would manage the countries for him?

Julie-Su was daughter of the leader of the Dark Legion, right? He was like an emperor, wasn't he?

Tails' parents' arc was basically being jealous from the king's power and wanting a little and you can't change my mind.

And then they allowed Naugus to become the king 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Pais do Ano.

‘Bout time I finally really talk about Nigel and Naugus! With some of Nigel’s service chao Angel as well. Here’s the deets:

Naugus first started out as Maximillian’s (Nigel’s father) right hand man. Being the kingdom’s personal wizard and chief of magic. But naugus would end up betraying max and they both went to the zone of silence. Naugus would make a deal with max, stating that he will protect max from any sort of harm from the zone and other beings, if he would hand over his power. Max agreed and when they escaped, max reveals to naugus that the power that he thinks he has is actually in Nigel. That power being the ability to heal others and themselves, but also cause destruction. Naugus tries to fight Nigel for this, trying to keep him as a slave but failed, with Nigel and his friends locking him into the zone of silence until decades later.

Naugus made his grand return, but this time he’s grown much more powerful. He learns about eggman, striking a deal with him so he can take over the now Starlight Archipelago where Nigel is king. Naugus ambushed the castle, going down past the dungeon and into the room where the zone can be accessed much more easily. He opens it and brings forth chaos (not the being, but figurative chaos) and destruction in the form of crystals and disease. Nigel was going to flee with the rest of the kingdom but turned back to fight naugus. He ultimately failed however, but not before throwing both naugus and himself into the zone of silence. He would stay there for about three years before finally being rescued.

After being in the zone for so long, with crystals growing out of his body and having to live in pure silence, it took a mental and physical toll on his body. He can’t be in a room with no noise or else he’ll panic, thinking he’s once again in the zone. Because of this, he ended up being gifted a little chao that Sally named Angel. She would sing for Nigel and provide comfort when going through treatment. And it turns out he and his kids provided just the right enough amount of love and care to turn her into an Angel chaos chao! A very spoiled, sassy but loving chao.
