re: everything horny nothing beautiful—do you think people are onto something when they say that americans became oddly and intensely puritan after 9/11. never understood that particular argument, nor the bit about americans as uniquely puritan/sexually repressed compared to the rest of the (western) world

ya i can kind of understand people thinking that the wave of post-9/11 nationalism led to like a general sexual conservatism, like it's sort of just an assumption that those things must have automatically gone hand-in-hand, but i don't think actually that america did become significantly more sexually repressed or puritanical in the aughts lol. it's also another one of those cases where many people seem to want to use the idea of puritanism to mean, like, "intensification of reactionary ideas" and i think puritanism is better understood as just one reactionary strain among many. like, all roads do not necessarily lead to rome.

anyway as to the general perception of americans as uniquely sexually repressed and puritanical i think there are a couple things going on. one is a general, max weber-lite tendency to over-interpret the significance of protestantism as a guiding economic force with an accompanying cultural and sexual ethos. so the fact that america has always been plurality protestant gets taken as prima facie evidence of sexual repression, like the way countries like england or germany are also assumed more repressed and buttoned-up than eg france or italy. i've said before that weber arguments are bad (/tagged/weber) and i'll say it again.

there's also, i genuinely think, a continued appeal to the colonialist, climatic-racial argument that hotter environments make people more emotional, impulsive, expressive, and yes sexually uninhibited. again even just within europe you can think here about how northern europeans perceive themselves vs how they talk about spain, italy/the mediterranean, etc. i think the us gets broadly lumped in with england here as a former british colony, and then you can see how internally there's absolutely a distinction between how people talk about the us north vs the south, and how the south is contrasted as wilder and, despite the bible belt, sexually more dangerous/improper; obviously this also relates to internal racist and classist dynamics, including the legacy of slavery and its corresponding discourses of blackness/africanness. there's also an east-to-west distinction internally, which i'd argue shows the continued legacy of settler justifications and ideas of western expansion as both manifest destiny and exploration of a wild and untamed terra nullius. the northeast, which is where the puritan influence was historically strongest, is often positioned in these discourses as the 'true' america in the sense of being the cultural centre or source (on an internal centre-periphery model à la basalla) so the puritan influence gets overstated and puritanical/repressed sexual mores are then seen as linked to economic dominance as well as 'proper' behaviour and culture.

and then finally sometimes people are just like, going into these arguments assuming that religious proscriptions on sex can be taken at face value, which is honestly very funny. like for example you will often hear people assert that the us is specifically more 'prudish' about child sexuality than eg italy or france, and they may point to things like us evangelical 'purity rings' or those ceremonies where like, girls pledge their virginities to their fathers. and it is true these things happen. but people making this type of argument tend to forget that also, child marriage is legal in the us. in general a religious command is an interesting phenomenon for a sociological analysis, but not necessarily one that should be taken as uncomplicatedly true, esp where like sexual taboos are concerned lol. it's true that in general, americans are more concerned to preserve certain kinds of modesty than some europeans (like, public changing rooms or spas are a very different affair in the us than in eg iceland or scandinavia, specifically regarding level of comfort with nudity) but it's not really a very serious argument to assume this correlates to a larger phenomenon of general repression or puritanism.

i mean i understand all national identities are constructed and this is just a piece of how that's done, both by americans and by other countries looking at america. but yeah i would say it's not a very insightful analysis of religion or sexuality lol

Fate and Phantasms #181

Today on Fate and Phantasms we’re finishing up the last of the racing teams from the Dead Heat Summer Race with Minamoto no Raikou (Lancer)! She’s the new addition to Team Prefect of Public Decency and Monk Sanzang, a name that just rolls off the tongue.

This shadow prefect is a Devotion Paladin to supercharge her lance/yo-yo with lightning and shut down any indecency this summer, as well as a Monster Slayer Ranger to sense evil before it happens.

Race and Background

Like most summer servants, your background isn’t that different. Raikou’s still a Fallen Aasimar, giving her +1 Wisdom and +2 Charisma, Darkvision to dunk on those dumb human eyes, Celestial Resistance against Radiant and Necrotic damage, and Healing Hands so she can make people feel better by pressing her body up against them. Get your mind out of the gutter, there’s nothing improper happening here. She also gets the Light cantrip. You might not be able to actually stick lightning in your weapon yet, but at least it looks like you did!

You’re also still a soldier, giving you proficiency with Athletics and Intimidation.

Ability Scores

Make sure your Charisma is as high as possible. I don’t know why, but you’re just really persuasive in this spirit origin. After that is Strength, you still have to be able to chuck a lance at someone’s head if they’re misbehaving. Your Dexterity also has to be pretty good, both for multiclassing and so you can wear that swimsuit later without getting destroyed. Your Wisdom isn’t terrible; you’re not that observant about most things, but you can tell pretty easily when someone’s up to no good. That leaves you with a pretty low Constitution, but it would hurt too much to dump that, so we’re dumping Intelligence instead. A. it’s summer, and B. you have no issue criticizing other’s swimsuits while wearing one of your own.

Class Levels

1. Paladin 1: Starting the build off as a paladin is pretty cool, it gives you proficiency with Wisdom and Charisma Saves, as well as two paladin skills. Grab Insight for a non-magical way to tell when someone’s up to mischief, and Persuasion for... reasons.

You also get a Divine Sense, letting you sense extraplanar creatures near you as an action. Now, I’m not saying an undead creature is inherently evil (esp. with those new playable races), but it’s probably a pretty good indicator when demons show up. You also get Lay on Hands for more physical contact based healing!  Admittedly Raikou doesn’t have a healing skill, but somehow I doubt the rest of the party will mind, aside from perhaps Kintoki.

2. Paladin 2: Second level paladins get a Fighting Style to customize how they slap things, and the Dueling style adds 2 to your attack damage if you’re using a one handed weapon and nothing else. You can also cast and prepare Spells using your Charisma modifier, or use those spell slots to make Divine Smites for extra radiant damage. It’s not lightning, but we’re getting there. As far as what you should prepare goes, I’d suggest anything with “Detect” in its name, as well as a Thunderous Smite. Still not lightning damage, but thematically we’re getting closer.

3. Paladin 3: Third level paladins get Divine Health, making you immune to disease. You’re also so devoted to your cause that you’re a Devotion paladin, which gives you Protection from Evil and Good and Sanctuary as free spells.

You can also Channel Divinity once per short rest in one of two flavors. Sacred Weapon adds your charisma modifier to a weapon’s attack rolls, and it becomes magical for the duration. Meanwhile, Turn the Unholy forces fiends and undead to make a wisdom save, and on a failure they have to move as far away from you as possible for up to a minute, or until it takes damage.

Also, since this is your third total level, you get a Necrotic Shroud that settles on you as an action once per long rest. When you transform this way, you get all spooky and force a charisma save on nearby creatures, frightening them for a turn if they fail. Afterwards, for up to a minute you can add necrotic damage equal to your level to one attack or spell per turn.

4. Paladin 4: Use your first Ability Score Improvement to get more Strength. This improves your stabbing, and... that’s it. Still, stabbing’s pretty useful.

5. Paladin 5: Fifth level paladins get an Extra Attack each attack action. Now your stabbing is even more useful, you’re welcome.

You also get second level spells, like your freebies Lesser Restoration and Zone of Truth. More importantly, you can use Find Steed to find yourself a steed for the race. Your warhorse comes out of the box as a celestial instead of a beast, and it also has an Intelligence of 6 so it can understand one language you speak. Any spell you cast on yourself also targets your steed if you’re riding it, and you can talk to it with your mind if you’re within a mile of it.

6. Ranger 1: Now that we’ve got your ride set up, it’s time to get shocking. To help with this, we’re going ranger. Multiclassing into ranger gets you one ranger skill, so grab Animal Handling so your horse doesn’t throw you off first thing.

As a bonus action, you can turn one enemy into your Favored Foe, dealing a bit of extra damage once per turn until you take a short rest or tag someone else.

You’re also a Deft Explorer, which right now means you’re Canny with Persuasion, doubling your proficiency bonus.

7. Ranger 2: Second level rangers get a second fighting style, and Thrown Weapon Fighting lets you add 2 to the damage of a weapon after you chuck it at someone’s head. You can also draw the weapon you’re throwing as part of the attack, streamlining the whole process.

You also get another set of Spells that you can cast with your Wisdom, like Animal Friendship, which ironically won’t help with your own horse. You also get Detect Poison and Disease to free up your paladin prep space.

Since you’re multiclassing now, check the player’s hand book for how many spell slots you have at a given time. Also, you’ll get third level slots eventually, but you won’t be able to prepare third level paladin spells. Stick with what you know.

8. Ranger 3: Third level rangers get Primeval Awareness, which lets you spend spell slots to sense weird creatures within a mile of you, though you don’t find their location. Think of it like a terrible, terrible smite. Like the anti-smite. Because that’s what it’s doing; it’s taking smites out of your child’s mouth. Let Kintoki have his smites.

Oh right, you also get your subclass. Monster Slayers get Protection from Evil and Good as a freebie like devotion paladins, but neither one uses your casting modifier so it doesn’t matter. You also get a Hunter’s Sense that lets you sense a creature’s weaknesses as an action. You learn your target’s immunities, resistances, and vulnerabilities unless they’re immune to divination. You can use this Wisdom Modifier times per long rest.

You can also turn one creature into your Slayer’s Prey as a bonus action, dealing an extra 1d6 damage once per turn when you hit it with a weapon attack. You can have one prey at a time, and it lasts until you finish a short rest.

You can also Detect Magic now. Any sort of magic on the race track is probably improper, right?

9. Paladin 6: Sixth level paladins get an Aura of Protection, adding your charisma modifier to all saving throws done by your allies near you. If you weren’t around, your allies might have fallen prey to all sorts of spells! How improper!

10. Ranger 4: Bouncing back to ranger gets you another ASI, use this to grab the Armor of Shadows invocation from the Eldritch Adept feat. Now you can change out of those stuffy prefect clothes and into something more appropriate. For Summer, at least.

11. Ranger 5: Fifth level rangers get second level spells and nothing else, since extra attacks don’t stack. You can now Find Traps that have been set up around you, and you get another way to cast Zone of Truth, but your charisma’s better, so stick to using paladin to cast that one.

12. Ranger 6: Your Favored Foe takes more damage, and you’re now Roving, giving you some extra speed plus a climbing and swimming speed. Perfect for a day on the beach!

13. Ranger 7: Seventh level monster slayers can put up a Supernatural Defense, adding 1d6 to saves and grapple escape checks against your slayer’s prey. You’ve seen these kinds of hooligans before, and they’re all the same. You know what they’ll do before even they do.

You can also provide Aid to your allies, giving them extra maximum HP. Put those overcharge spell slots to use! (Or just smite stuff. Either or.)

14. Paladin 7: Seventh level devotion paladins get an Aura of Devotion, preventing you or friendly creatures near you from being charmed. Summer romance... how indecent! Don’t they know what they’re doing?

15. Paladin 8: For your last paladin level, use this ASI to bump up your Charisma and Dexterity for a higher AC, stronger saves, and better spells.

16. Ranger 8: Use this ASI to bump up your Charisma again, for even stronger saves and better spells. You can also use Land’s Stride to avoid damage from nonmagical plants and avoid getting slowed by difficult terrain. You also get advantage against saves from magical plants. Yeah, every summer servant can fight without armor on, but the second they have to walk through a thorn bush they’re hosed. You’re ahead of the game!

17. Ranger 9: Ninth level rangers get third level spells. Elemental Weapon finally lets you stick lightning in your spear for extra fun. You also get Magic Circle for free.

18. Ranger 10: A tenth level ranger is Tireless, letting you heal yourself as an action Proficiency times per long rest, and you can reduce exhaustion on short rests. Now you can spend all night... making sure nobody does anything naughty under the cover of darkness, obviously.

You can also Hide in Plain Sight after crafting camouflage over a minute. Once becamoed, press against a surface as big as you are, and you get a +10 bonus to stealth checks as long as you don’t move.

19. Ranger 11: Your last Monster Slayer goody turns you into a Magic-User’s Nemesis, using your reaction once per short rest to force a wisdom save on a creature teleporting or casting a spell within 60′ of you. If they fail, the spell is wasted.

If you want that spear of yours to be really flashy, you can also use Lightning Arrow to give it a lot more oomph, dealing lightning damage to the target whether it hits or misses, and then dealing more damage to all creatures around that target. Use Elemental Weapon for longevity, or Lightning Arrow for a big blow all at once.

20. Ranger 12: Use your capstone level’s ASI to bump up your Strength one last time for even more accurate and deadly attacks.

Pros:

With your auras and ranger defenses active you can be really annoying to spellcasters. Charms don’t work, you might just counterspell them, your saves can be somewhere between +6 and +11. It’s just a mess for wizards to put up with.

Mixing paladin and ranger also lets you combine their tracking abilities to become the ultimate evil detector, seeking out and shutting down baddies from the shadows.

You specialize in boss fights, focusing on a single target and gradually stacking buffs against them, like favored foe and slayer’s prey, letting you deal pretty consistent damage against a single target over time.

Cons:

You multiclassed into two classes that both require two ability scores to be good. And neither one shares an ability score with the other. You’re MAD as hell, is what I’m trying to say here. Also, your paladin abilities won out handily against your ranger abilities, so your wisdom ended up way lower than you’d probably like.

Similarly, neither class required Constitution, so yours is pretty low for a mid-line fighter. You have barely over 100 HP, and your AC is only 15. Be really careful your horse doesn’t get shot out from under you, you’ll need that extra mobility.

Stacking buffs takes a lot of time, either dedicating an entire turn just to making your next turn good or having a few not so great turns right at the start. Depending on the kinds of situations you end up in, a character ready to go turn one might be a better option.

Just before lunch, Dr. Rjskov came to Zhenya’s office. “It’s about His Highness, sir.”

Zhenya jumped up. “Is he all right?”

“He’s quite well. But his best fertility window is closing for the month. I thought you should be advised. It is of course up to you and your husband how you conduct your relationship, but he’ll be unlikely to conceive as of this afternoon.”

“This...afternoon?”

“Yes, I advised His Highness that his hormones were shifting last night, and that they’d reach their baseline levels around lunchtime today.”

“Ah.” Zhenya sat down, feeling a little deflated. That explained the surprise morning sex. His consort had wanted one last try for a conception before his fertility window closed. It had nothing to do with any thirst he had for Zhenya’s cock. “Thank you for the update, Doctor. You’ll advise us when his fertility window reopens?”

“Of course, sir. About three weeks.” He bowed and excused himself.

Zhenya sat there for a few minutes, staring down at his desktop, littered with the latest notes and suggestions from his consort’s perusal of the memos and white papers he’d gotten from Seryozha. He got to his feet, grabbed his coat and strode out of the office.

A walk. That was a fine idea. That’d set him to rights.

It was sort of working, too, until he took a turn around the athletic fields and came upon the consort and his guards in the lower rugby pitch. They were engaged in some kind of hand-to-hand combat training and, to his surprise, his husband was participating in it.

The guards were all clad in black training gear; a variety of pads, weapons and training aids were scattered in the grass. His stomach clenched; his consort was sparring with Sidney. Because that was just what he needed -- to watch a karmic re-enactment of his inner turmoil.

Sidney was shirtless, his muscled torso shining with sweat and his hands and wrists wrapped. Zhenya’s consort was wearing the same training kit the other guards were wearing, with the addition of...well, he wouldn’t have thought there was such a thing as an athletic veil, but there seemed to be. These gray veils looked to be lighter weight than his usual ones but were still opaque, and they were fastened to his clothing at strategic points to prevent them from flying up and exposing him when he moved quickly. The sides were shorter, to let his arms move freely, but his torso was still covered.

Zhenya lurked in the shadows near the gear shed and watched, feeling like a creeper. Letang was directing the sparring, and neither Sidney nor the consort seemed to be holding anything back. He watched as they moved quickly around each other, hands and feet flashing, his consort’s veils billowing around his head. Sidney was laughing, and Zhenya suddenly realized that his consort was, too. Of course, he wouldn’t be aware that Zhenya could hear him. It would be improper for him to continue to observe in secret.

He stepped out of the shadows and approached, telling himself that he had every right to walk on the grounds of his own palace. His consort saw him and abruptly drew back, causing Sidney to turn around to see what had gotten the consort’s attention. He grinned -- dear God, that smile. Zhenya forced himself to look only at his consort as he nodded to him and the rest of the group.

“Your Royal Highness, good morning,” Fleury said. “We were just sparring. We’re all feeling like we need some exercise.”

Zhenya nodded. As long as his consort was present, he was prohibited from speaking, a fact that Fleury seemed to abruptly remember. “Of course. Uh...your Highness, perhaps Kris should escort you back to the palace.”

The consort waved to him; Zhenya waved back as Letang and another of the guards (his name started with J...was it Justin? Jeff?) flanked him and they walked back up the hill. 

The other guards were gathering up the pads and gear. “If you’ll excuse us, sir, we should return to our duties.” Fleury bowed and followed Kris, the rest of the guards save Sidney trailing behind him.

“I didn’t mean to interrupt your exercise,” Zhenya said.

Sidney shrugged, unwinding the tape from his hands. “We got in a good hour. He was feeling restless.”

“Were you going easy on him?”

“Did it look that way?”

“No, it didn’t.”

“He doesn’t need me to. He’s a good fighter. Almost as good as me,” he said, winking. “Then again, I taught him everything he knows.”

Zhenya shoved his hands in his pockets. “I keep stumbling over skills my husband possesses which I do not.”

“You could learn. I’ll teach you.”

“I’m a bit old to learn new tricks.”

“Ah yes, so old. What are you, twenty-seven?”

“Suck-up. I’m thirty-one, as you well know.”

“I’m thirty. Do I seem infirm to you?”

He couldn’t help it, his eyes crawled down Sidney’s absolutely not-infirm body. “No.”

“You’re in good shape, I’ve seen you running on the grounds.”

Zhenya swallowed hard at the thought of Sidney watching him run. “I do have a concern about my consort engaging in this kind of exercise. It’s too early for us to know, but he very well could be pregnant. Given how much effort we put into getting him that way, a stray blow to the stomach seems like a big risk. It could jeopardize everything.”

Sidney’s jaw tightened a little. “Isn’t that his call to make?”

“I don’t think it’s unreasonable that I have some input as well.”

Sidney kept his eyes on his tape-unwinding. “Perhaps he didn’t think about that. I’ll remind him. There are ways we can spar that wouldn’t pose a danger.” He met Zhenya’s eyes. “He’d no more want to endanger a pregnancy than you would, that much I know.”

“I’m glad to hear that.”

“He’s…” Sidney pulled on his shirt and shouldered his bag. “I think he might be frustrated that the fertility window is up today.”

“I’ve been advised. I’m surprised he’d share that with you, if you’ll pardon me saying so.”

“There isn’t a lot we don’t share between us. All of us. We’re the only ones he can really be free with. For the time being.”

“Of course.” They started walking back toward the palace. “I admit I don’t really know what to do now. I’d be disappointed not to see him for three weeks.”

“You mean not to sleep with him.”

“Only in part.”

“You think he would want to stop until the next window?”

“I have no idea what he wants.” Zhenya couldn’t believe he was discussing what was a private matter between him and his consort with a man who he could no longer deny he was wildly attracted to. “If our goal is his fertilization, why would he wish to continue?”

Sidney laughed. “You have strange ideas about consorts. The veil doesn’t turn off his libido. He’s a human, Zhenya. Of course he’s going to want to keep having sex. He has an attractive partner available to him on demand. Why wouldn’t he keep partaking of that?”

Zhenya had stopped walking and just stood there, blinking. “You think so?”

According to this wonderfully compassionate man, the term “rape” only applies when it happens to an unmarried woman, a wife cannot be raped because God has given her husband all rights over her body.

I vehemently disagree. Any man who puts his own needs before those of his wife does not deserve to have one, and any man who uses God as an excuse for his own reprehensible behavior is in for a surprise in the afterlife involving lots of flames. 

Husbands are charged to protect and literally die for their wives if called upon (something that people tend to ignore about the phrase “love your wives as Christ loved the Church”), and protecting her actually involved protecting her from themselves and their own selfish desires. While the author generously admits that a husband forcing himself upon his wife after pregnancy or a serious injury is wrong, he argues interminably that husbands have every right to their wives’ bodies in every other circumstance. 1. What’s your absolute favorite scene from any film?

Oh damn... Start off with a harder one, why dontcha? Okay, stay with me because I’m gonna have to explain this. The scene in Van Helsing when the giant vampire egg sacks are introduced and here’s why: the first time I watched this movie, I was the only one who hadn’t seen it. I stared at the screen for a moment, glanced around the room and declared, “Jesus, their vaginas must be like slip and slides!”

The movie was paused so we could clean up all the soda that had sprayed out of peoples’ mouths. It was a proud moment and I smile every time I see that scene because of it.

2. What’s the most terrible book you’ve ever read?

Okay, but worst I’ve read all the way through or worst that I’ve TRIED to read and just... Couldn’t? Worst I’ve ever read all the way through is The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. I fucking hate this book with a special hatred usually reserved for people who have personally wronged me or killed my puppy or something. Worst I tried to read and just couldn’t finish was Starship Troopers. I just could not get into it.

3. Star Trek NoTP, and why?

I actually don’t really have one? I have pairings that I REALLY don’t understand (Bones/Chekov???), but there aren’t really any pairings that give me that visceral NoTP vibe.

4. The four most badass humans to ever walk the earth? If you’re feeling it, I’d love to hear your justification. ;)

Hm... Most badass...

Ada Lovelace has always been a personal hero of mine. I love ladies. I love math. I ESPECIALLY love ladies who do math. Particularly in a time where it was considered improper for such things.

Amelia Earhart. It’s cliche, but there was just SO MUCH about her that I love. She ticks off most of my deep love boxes. The creation of the 99′s in an attempt to encourage more female aviators is high up on that list.

Now for someone a little less famous. My paternal grandmother. Her first husband and father of my oldest uncle was apparently a right bastard and used to hit her. Well shortly after my uncle was born, she decided she had quite enough of that, thank you very much and went upside his head with a cast iron frying pan. She then took my uncle, left him, and then married my grandfather a few years later. Role model material right there.

Lastly, my mother. She went through a special level of hell living with my father who, while not physically abusive was definitely manipulative and emotionally/psychologically abusive during the years they were together. She has been a never-ending fountain of acceptance and love for me, my sister, and our friends. There’s a reason all the friends of mine that meet her usually call her Robyn-mommy.

5. The fictional character you identify most with, and why?

Leonard McCoy, hands down. My boyfriend and I constantly joke that he and I are the same person, but it’s only partially a joke. And I realize it more and more with little things here and there. Obsessively look after my friends and family while frequently neglecting my own care? Check. Snarky, sarcastic, sometimes abrasive exterior used to express fondness? Check. I could literally spend hours and hours dissecting this (because I have), but I’ll just leave it there for now.

6. If you could hang out with one person for a day, living or dead, who would you pick, and why?

Another hard one. Hm. I’d want to see what Jesus was really like, honestly. I feel like we’d jive really well and I’d just like to hear his thoughts on things directly from him without a middle man.

7. What character, from any source, do you think gives the best kisses, and why?

Hm... Probably wishful thinking, but I imagine Aragorn. He just seems like he’d have the right balance of gentle passion meets rough possession. Like... He’d grip your bicep to the point where you feel like there will be imprints of his fingers with one hand and the other would cup the back of your head or your cheek so tenderly you might cry and his lips would be that midpoint between chapped and moist that’s just... UGH okay I may have thought of this a lot.

8. Who is your favorite artist (any medium; this can be interpreted broadly), and why?

Da Vinci. I can’t even describe to you the amount of time I’ve spent over the years reading about his work, and I just LOVE all the drawings of his inventions no matter how farfetched and impossible they are. Just the fact that someone dared to dream them up makes me giddy.

9. What’s your favorite theoretical crossover? In other words, what characters, from different fandoms, would you like to see interact, or who would you like to see thrown into a different universe? I hope this question makes sense, guys.

I’m honestly not big on crossovers anymore. Back in the day, my friends and I used to RP and it was just... A HUGE crossover mishmash of anything and everything we were into at that particular moment crammed into a single universe we created, but now I’m just... Meh.

10. Who is your favorite iconic scientist, and which of their contributions do you find most significant?

Bill Nye. Hands down. His contribution was instilling in me a lifelong love of science and learning that has carried on as a recurring theme through my entire life.

11. If you could remake any movie, in any way you want, what movie would you pick, and what would you change?

Ooooooh... I would remake the Dragons of Autumn Twilight movie. And I would change... Everything except the voice actors they chose. The voices? Flawless. The animation? I wanted to cry. I’d aim for either a live action movie, or I’d remake it so the whole thing is in a hand drawn animation style instead of the weird as fuck thing they did where the draconians/dragons/other baddies were CGI, but literally EVERYTHING ELSE was hand drawn???

I would solve the problem of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch and other trash vortexes like it throughout the oceans. I have an insane love of the ocean and everything in it, and so the fact that humans created this giant mass of floating debris that’s hurting a ton of sea life, but we can’t adequately remove it all because of how small the pieces are/the sheer volume of the masses upsets me more than I can really describe.
