I’ve been on the pjo tv crit tag and I gotta say I agree with most of what’s on there 😭😭

All my praise for the show goes to the actors alone. I’m not stupid I didn’t expect the show to be an exact replica of the books cause that would’ve been boring as well but I feel like say “faithful adaptation” is a bit overzealous.

1. The changes

Some of the changes I love. Like them stopping for candy and Annabeth going in was so cute. Grover using psychological warfare on the God of war ate.

But a lot of the changes were just like ???? What was the point? And all the stuff that they revealed like 4-5 seasons too early. Stuff that was hinted at through the books that built suspense and intrigue just dumped on the table was a bit 😕

I remember finding out about Luke’s mom and why Luke REALLY hated his father. It literally had me gagged it was like finding out something I didn’t even know I was waiting for. The build up to them finding out Kronos involved was always a favorite cause it felt so raw. It was pure fear encapsulated by words, you could feel it, it was palpable and we just didn’t get that in the show. It was so “here you go. Kronos it was him *but said intensely*”

2. Them knowing everything

I do understand how it does make sense that they would know a lot of things from the jump as they all literally grew up with this information but a lot of the times where they didn’t realize exactly what was happening right away in the books have a slight reminder of how young and innocent they are. These neurodivergent 12 year olds who have been tasked with a Gods job and have been trekking across the states for days; yeah I wouldn’t expect them to be at the top of their game ALL THE TIME no matter how smart they are. The slip ups show that even though they’re these tiny warriors they aren’t immune to being a little naive.

3. Setting

I’m not gonna criticize the settings cause if that’s how Rick imagined it then that’s how he imagined it but I can’t blame the ppl who are a bit miffed at how the sets were portrayed. The underworld did truly throw me off.

4. Info dumping ?? Or not enough info idk

I also saw a post about how they would just throw random names out there pertaining to Greek mythology and then just not explain 😭😭 and all the stuff that they left out too (fields of punishment, isle blest, etc) which sets up for things in later seasons. And I understand the time crunch; 8 episodes 40 mins give or take and a dream is what they had. That being said this shit was a mess 🤷🏽‍♀️😭😭 like badly set up, script was not doing them any justice, and it felt so boring most of the time.

5. Whimsy and fun erasure

There were gems I will keep saying that. There were fun times but the fun times also felt very strategically placed whereas in the books it was sorta woven into the chaos. Charon being a lil silly, Grover playing the shooting game in the lotus casino and killing humans (I love him so much 😭😭), annabeth geeking over the architecture of the arch and going on a tangent about how it was made while Grover and Percy trade candy in the back. Talking to the animals and Percy finding out he can speak horse, the car wash where annabeth scares off a grown man in a Lincoln, “shows over! Thank you and goodnight!”, Percy and Grover clowning annabeth for watching the discovery channel unironically. I’m not saying I expected them to put all this shit in there cause again I’m not an imbecile but the type of wit and humor that made everyone fall in love with the books was cut out for the more serious stuff. And what’s so frustrating about that is I KNOW the actors would’ve ate it up. Walker especially that boy IS Percy.

I could keep finding stuff but I’m trying to be grateful cause even after all of this Rick did take the time to try and think of us and maybe it’s not his fault but idk it’s just a bit disappointing after the way it was marketed towards long time fans

In October 2016, I was fresh out of a relationship that ended after 6 years and having a terrible depressing time, and treating myself to a vacation, visiting a friend. I read an interview with a voice actor for a new original anime that expressed that he kept crying during recordings because he empathized so much with his character.

I got back from vacation, watched the opening, said "holy shit???", and then a few nights later at like 4am watching anime all night with a friend who was staying the night, I said "... Hey you like ice skating, wanna watch this new ice skating anime?". We watched the three episodes that were out, and then went to this donut shop at 6am contemplating what we just watched while also frantically texting friends to watch it ASAP.

This led to weekly watch parties with our friend group (and it brought all of us closer, tbh!). Every week, they would come over to my place after we all got off work, and we would watch the newest episode.

Several of us would rewatch the series again as we would wait for the next episode to drop. We would share so much artwork and theories that this blog needed to be created (yes it was initially just YOI). We even had Katsucon parties.

Obv it was something different to everyone. It's depiction of anxiety and depression sure hit me.

Oh Yurio jacket, how I miss you fitting.

We would tell people about it online, encourage people to watch it officially, to buy merchandise, do anything possible to show it support and to show demand for more.

With the "see you next level" and movie announcements, it was like "wow! We did it! It worked!".

And yes, I found these memes I shared from back then as I dug out all of these photos.

Yuri on Ice changed lives, really was Born to Make History, and made MAPPA the household name anime studio that it is.

MAPPA, you've really made our expectations from you low in recent years, but this is clearly the "next level". 🤧

I'm gonna go drink my Yuri on Ice tea and think about what could have been, and idk, hope that maybe one day MAPPA will give it up to a studio that will do something with it. My boys deserved better.

Pixel Art 12/13/23 - Sneasel

Seasonally appropriate, being an ice/dark type. Like, it's colder and the days are shorter, y'know? I used to think Sneasel was at least half bug type as a kid, idk why. Maybe because I thought of it rhyming more with weevil than weasel? Who knows.

I think the shading here could be a little better... maybe the right leg is a little far over too? Super happy with how the rest turned out! It's a similar pose to my previous Hisuian Sneasel, but the shape of everything looks much better. I think the scale of the tail and legs are better here, the arms look less floppy, claws and chest gem are better-placed, lots of small nitpicks I had there are corrected here.

I wish I could say I'm back in the groove with this piece, but I'm really struggling right now with it still; so I'm abandoning the project entirely!

Don't worry though! I'm replacing it with an even bigger, more exiting project! Introducing: The re;Weasel Wednesdays 2: The New Batch; Revengeance² +Bowser's Minions DX for WiiU: Definitive Edition Episode 3; or, This Part of the Title is Kinda a Riff on Those Fantasy Anime's that I've Personally Never Watched Cuz I'm Not Really Into Anime or RPG's in a Broad Sense But I'm Open to the Idea if You Have Any Reccs But Honestly I Already Have a Backlog of Other Games So They Better Be Good The Squeakquel Part 5 + Weasel Wedneday I: Anniversary Edition Double Pack. And it just so happens this Sneasel's the first piece in that project, not my previous (boring, bad) project!

Yeah, that oughta do it. Wow. Yeah, already feeling that energy. Hahahaha! YES!!! Ok, no, it's still gonna feel a bit rough until I'm hit with another random burst of focus + creative energy, which might be soon, maybe. I'm due another one, as a treat. Twilight recognizing Yor's lullaby as one his mother used to sing to him is a very interesting detail regarding the history and culture of Westalis and Ostania.

(keep in mind I don't read the manga so I don't know any details revealed there)

While there are real life cases of neighboring nations sharing parts of their culture, there are signs that point to Westalis and Ostania having once been a united nation. The main real-world influence being West and East Germany, the two nations speaking the same language, having shared songs... maybe the war is what created the line between them in the first place. Westalis pertains to "West" and Ostania to "East" and many people in the story simply use "west" and "east" to refer to the respective country... as if it's not that much of a different country.

In such a case, it would make even more pointed how the first conflict between extremists and "pacifists" we saw in the story was between young university students and the WISE agents. The former were not born when the war broke out*, thus never saw the united country and they now believe in Ostanian supremacy. The latter were old enough to see the war break out and have their lives torn apart by it, and none of their motives include Westalian supremacy - because they remember the time where Westalis didn't even exist? So the idea of supremacy means nothing to them?

* I don't know how old Twilight is supposed to be, but aside from Nightfall and the newer recruits, he seems to be among the youngest in the agency. Now, the few flashbacks we've seen of him in the anime, were they in the beginning or the midst of the war? The old woman in episode 12 says that has been her life for "decades" so there's an actual chance that Twilight was born during the war. But in any case, anyone who's even a few years younger than him won't remember a peaceful time without divided nations. Idk I'm just guessing and spitballing here. I don't want spoilers.

That's interesting to think about because it might point to how the story will end. I cannot imagine the story ending with Twilight perpetually staying a spy, and considering how strong his motives are (at the detriment of his own self), he's not gonna want to retire if the cold war doesn't end for good.

And maybe that's just me looking too much into it, but maybe that end won't come without a unification. Again, the influence was West and East Germany - two nations that are now one. And if you think "That's too hopeful" I've heard older people say they never expected for Germany to reunite before it did (I'm curious to hear opinions from any Germans but I'm too bored to search lmao feel free to comment though). So... you know. I mean, if Endo wanted to leave the implications vague, it's not like he doesn't live right opposite another divided country that has been in a war stalemate for more than half a century and cannot draw inspiration from there.

Idk again just throwing ideas into the wind. Don't spoil me if the manga gives more info.

People need to stop blaming the fact that One Piece isn't nearly as popular in the US as other long running shows like Dragon Ball Z and Naruto on the 4KidsTV dub. Yes the 4KidsTV dub was bad, yes it made it look like a show for little kids. But it aired for just 3 years, and wasn't even viewed by that many people. After all, it wasn't popular. It'd be a setback for sure, but over 16 years later, there's no way this is still the root cause, when shows like My Hero Academia can skyrocket in popularity in a fraction of the time. The newer quality dub is the only dub that's been marketed for a decade and a half, with episodes in sub on Crunchyroll on the day of airing.

The fault isn't the show being too long or the animation or the pacing or any of that. These are problems that every other country has to overcome in selling One Piece. The fault is in Crunchyroll's marketing. While some people point out that "Film Red ads were at Times Square" or "They're showing Episode 1000 at the expo!" there's not much Crunchyroll actually does to encourage new audience members. Yes, the dub is caught up more or less, adapting the most current arc. But that's only if you're buying them on Microsoft Store for $30 for 12 episodes. If that sounds like a scam to you, you have to wait a couple of weeks for it to show up on FUNimation or Crunchyroll, the niche streaming services for dedicated anime fans. If you don't want to subscribe to tons of streaming services and just want to use the most popular ones, it's on Netflix too, but only up to Enies Lobby, it doesn't even cover the first 500 episodes of a 1000+ episode show. A bit odd for a platform that is trying to hype up their live action adaptation of the series, but streaming licenses can be tricky and expensive, at least they have the show at all, as it wasn't even on Netflix in the US for a long time. Hulu fairs a bit better with 457 episodes, though dub is the only option (this was NOT how hulu was with One Piece just 6 years ago, btw. It changes all the time how much sub or dub they have). Don't even get me started on Amazon Prime. It's not even about the $2 per episode, the navigation is horrific. I couldn't even tell you what episodes they have. There's like 3 Season 10s and a Season 11, and all of them have the most random ass selection of episodes. Like straight up, it needs fixed cause idk what the hell's going on. Even if $2/episode was a reasonable price, I'm too scared to buy it. I'm afraid it's not gonna even be the episodes I ordered. If you'd rather just catch the latest episodes on TV, they're on Toonami, the channel that only airs from midnight to 3am. A pretty late schedule for normal people, and even if you can catch them, they're nearly 350 episodes behind there. It actually would have been even more behind, as it was cancelled for quite awhile. But to make up for lost time, they skipped 134 episodes. Those unaired episodes are some of the most iconic, high-rated, and important story arcs of the entire series. And don't expect to catch re-airings, this ain't DBZ Kai on NickToons. You can also collect the series on DVD/BD. But that's gonna cost you $44 for 12 episodes. And don't expect to pick it up at a Wal-Mart or Target. Maybe a Best Buy if you live somewhere busy, but even that's not guaranteed. 9 times out of 10 you gotta deliberately buy that online. Might as well buy two shelves from amazon while you're at it because that my friend is 64 DVD sized boxes you're going to be purchasing, assuming you're buying the Voyage sets. With the Collection sets you can collect the series in just 32 DVD sized boxes, because the Collection sets are literally two Voyage sets for the price of one.

Compare this to Dragon Ball Z. People my age grew up catching episodes frequently on NickToons or Toonami. Many I know started in their teens watching Dragon Ball Super on Hulu. You can catch the whole series dubbed and subbed on Crunchyroll. If you wanted to own Dragon Ball Z, you can get the Orange Brick DVDs, the Dragon Box DVDs, the DBZ Kai DVDs, the Blu-Rays, the Level Sets (jk they discontinued), the DBZ Kai Blu-Rays, the 30th Anniversary Blu-Rays, the steelbook Blu-Rays. Wal-Mart has Blu-Ray Orange Brick sets where you can buy 3 seasons for $30 dollars, that's 1/3rd of the show for the price of 12 niche anime episodes. You can also buy the manga by the volume, by the box set, in a big-print omnibus set, (partially) in a full color set, or online. And while games like Dragon Ball Z Kakarot are still getting fresh dubs, high-budget One Piece games like One Piece Odyssey or One Piece World Seeker are Japanese subbed only, with not so much as an English dub update in sight. Most Dragon Ball movies are available in dub, and even come in 2 or 4-movie Blu-Ray bundles. One Piece only has 6 of their 14 movies dubbed, with only 6 TV Specials dubbed as well.

My point is that the most approachable way to get into One Piece is the same way it was 16 years ago; piracy. It's not kaizoku-fansubs or kissmanga like it was back in the day, but things haven't changed much. Most fans ik don't catch the latest 12 dubbed episodes on FUNimation, they watch them on 9anime. They don't purchase 4 box sets of manga that are all nearly worth $200, they see fanscans of the colored manga on mangasee. With this kind of fanbase, One Piece is always going to stay within the "Film Red grosses $12M at US box office" range of popularity. To get to the "Dragon Ball Super: Heroes grosses $38M at box office" ball-park, you gotta reach out to the audiences who just want to watch some TV and don't want to have to do some digging. Even the 4KidsTV dub knew this. It wasn't very popular, but by airing at day time and having plenty of commercials, and just being on a channel kids tune into, it would at least catch the accidental attention of people every now and then. Sometimes I have to wonder if Crunchyroll even wants to push One Piece as a flagship series, or if it'd rather just be known for more trending anime like Chainsaw Man and Demon Slayer.

Thoughts on Teen Wolf the Movie while watching it (SPOILERS) pt.1

Before I even start let me say that they should've just made it another 12 or 10 or hell even an 8 episode mini series

Should've opened with Isaac instead of Liam and Hikari in Japan smh. He was the last one to have the triskele box, how tf did Liam get it? (I do understand that Daniel Sharman couldn't be in the film but still...at least give me an explanation)

I don't care what they say, Hikari was supposed to be Kira and Hikari wasn't supposed to even exist. Liam and Hikari are clearly what Scott & Kira Should've been, minus the restaurant in Japan, if they'd done the right thing and brought Kira back in the last season. He said he'd wait for her😭. (Though I Stan the actress for not coming back when they were going to pay her white female castmates more than her. Honestly fuck them for that)

Why does Liam own a restaurant in Japan. How did we get here in our lives. Liam u supposed to be protecting Beacon Hills. Also idk what career I though Liam would get but it definitely wouldn't have been restaurant owner. I can see him as a coach maybe (at Devonford Prep in honor of Brett; huh maybe I did know what career I thought he'd have🤔)

why haven’t we heard about siblings before?

“cease this bitch crying” the curse is unneeded. it doesn’t fit with the kingly vibe of the character. he’s an asshole father yes but hes also supposed to be a regal king. you don’t need a curse there, it breaks character.

the circus bit with just blitz and fizz seems... kinda dumb and nonsensical? maybe something is just flying over my head but that scene feels empty and not in a good way

hold up... so i havent finished the episode yet (at 5;21) but did stolas’s family fucking own blitz? if so that makes stoliz even worse of a ship and even if they didnt that power dynamic is so fucking off. 

the balloon animal scene is... interesting

blitz having an abusive and manipulative father doesn’t excuse the fact he is now an asshole that ignores boundaries and uses people. a great example of this is bojack horseman

Silver Talks AniManga (07/01/24)

I watched 7 eps of stuff today. SEVEN EPISODES. that's more in one day than I was watching the entire week last season, that's crazy to me. it feels like the good ol golden days of watching seasonal stuff.

anyway it feels good, like I'm back in better, simpler times. it was fun. tho I will certainly be trying to watch these the day they air instead of all in the same day like this cause that's not a sustainable way to do it, especially when jump returns on sundays later this month

oh and there's also a couple more shows coming next week that didn't premiere this one so even more for the pile, it's wild to see myself watching so much stuff again but it really is just THAT stacked of a season. lots of adaptations of stuff I've known/been wanting to check for YEARS and sequels as well. along with a couple promising looking originals like bones' Metallic Rouge

oh also also, this week was very weird to see outside of that too cause jump chaps were on friday instead of the usual sunday which threw my whole routine out of whack but ANYWAY

I've known about this manga since it came out, *checks notes*, 5 years ago??? (on my bday no less so that's a funny coincidence), but I just never got around to reading it. if you didn't know I'm a big fan of mahou shoujo (precure being my favourite by a long shot). I'm not too sure about this series but I'll give it the good ol 3 episode try, and see if it respects the genre enough for me to keep watching or nah. the first ep was promising tho so here's hoping. if I like it enough I'll prob end up reading it too

I've known about this manga since it came out, *checks notes*, 5 years ago. wait why does that sound familiar? anyway I've known about it and I've wanted to read it for a long time but have never gotten around to it. anyway, idk if it was my fault for expecting too much but the episode was pretty disappointing. the animation was bare minimum and even the art felt weird, like there was some weird filter over it, especially during the CG bits. seeing the girls animated and voiced by such a good cast is good tho. only 12 episodes so I'll most likely keep up with it til the end and end up reading the manga at some point this year

Dungeon Meshi Ep1

dunme is one of those manga I never got around to reading despite knowing I'd love it if I did, and then it ended up ending some months ago. I still want to go back and read it tho cause I know it's right up my alley. for now however we have the anime. when it was originally previewed at ax? or wherever it was there was a guy that made an article complaining about how it didn't feel like a trigger show and they were disappointing, but... that's a good thing? at the end of the day it ISN'T a trigger show so it shouldn't feel like one. it's an adaptation and a damn good one at that too. plus it's not like it's completely devoid of trigger's dna. that bit with marcille where it did a rough crop of her face and completely stopped all sounds was hilarious. I'll be looking forward to this every week and to eventually getting around to reading it as well. and also to whatever kui works on next

Sasaki and Peeps Ep1

how I ended up watching this show is p funny it wasn't on my radar at all, tho I knew it existed and all that but just wasn't that interested in watching cause "oh it's just another isekai" then some weeks ago CR posted a video of yuuki aoi promoting it and talking about the premise and I was like "🤔hm maybe it's not what I expect...but no I shouldn't watch it I'm already watching a ton this season and I'm not gonna watch a show just for my queen.." then the other day I heard about that sasaki bit in the credits, and that almost convinced me to watch it after all cause it was so funny but I stayed strong. the straw that broke the camel's back was a clip of the scene leading up to the screenshot below and the voice yuuki is using for the bird, coupled with sugita's great peformance if I had seen the ep was double lenght that prob woulda put me off from watching it but I only realized it like halfway through it so gg I'm... pleasantly surprised really. it wasn't just another isekai, that's just a part of the plot, and him traveling between both worlds and doing trading and stuff reminded me of maoyuu. I'll certainly be keeping up with it

not much to say about this really, just more of the same. from the preview for it, it seems this season will have a lot more sakuga than s1 so I look forward to those little crumbs

ah yes good ol exorcist, how long as it been? let's see... SEVEN YEARS HUH??? time really is fucked up and unforgiving huh... not much to say about this one either. just the continuation of the story, with the same quality you'd come to expect. funny enough, the last time I read the manga was right at the end of this arc, so the anime should be ending where I last read. I really need to get back to reading it again since it moving towards the ending now that its on it's final battles

hey I've known about this manga for years but just n- wait a minute haven't I said that already? anyway I do think it's funny that both this and mato seihei (chained soldier) ended up getting adaptations in the same season when they have similar concepts. funny how the universe works out sometimes. I think this was a lot better looking than soldier tho, but we'll see if that stays true for the rest of the season. and also just like the other series I said the same thing from the start of this, I really should read the manga, hopefully this year I'll get around to it oh also, really looking forward to when the cat girl shows up she's so unbearably good, I NEED her

hoshina is my favourite from kaiju so him getting his own spinoff is very fun. apparently it's based on a LN which was only 1 vol so it won't too long. I'll appreciate it while it's around tho. worth to note that the art is by the super smartphone author so it'll also be nice to see how much they've improved since that series got axed

The Tesla scene. god. they made it much more gruesome and i loved it. KEEPING HER ALIVE ooooh that hurts. but i wish they had a whole episode to explain tesla, what the humans did to her and how this drastically changed the twins’ POV of humanity and their place in the world. bc god that scene was only like less than 2 mins long and i dont think they did her much justice. maybe they will dive into it more but i doubt it since they have to deal with A GIANT PLANT MONSTER

that thing is gorgeous btw. the animation style is so good, that doesnt need to be said but god the studio is using the medium so well. im sure some botany fanatic is gushing about the flora symbolism. and i’ve no clue how July will perish now. anyway, vash is gonna feel SO guilty after this. oh goodness.

oh and poor meryl. for a sec i saw the vines unleash in the room and thought it was gonna be like that volume where she sees what Vash’s feels/sees bc she touches his feathers. i got so scared. bc damn it. every moment in the manga has its impact and trying to shuffle them around to fit this new story hurts me personally /sarcasm. again, i LOVE this new show. im thankful for this new cake but sometimes i see remnants of the manga and i miss the original story. anyway, i cant wait to see what will happen to July, WW and Meryl.

This is purely hypothetical and what if’s for fun, which member of team possible (Kim, Ron, Wade) do you think is more likely to turn into a villain? Which one do you think is least likely? And what makes you think that way?

ooooooooh. okay. going from least to most.

Kim is least likely. for Kim to be Kim, she cannot have that moral bent whatsoever. to willingly choose evil...idk, she just wouldn't. she'd be more likely to quit heroism and just...live an average life, before she'd choose evil. it's simply not in her character. i'll refer you to the meta i linked in in yesterday's ask answer for a more comprehensive explanation.

Ron is next most likely to become a villain. he'd do so not for evil's sake but for self-serving reasons. probably under the guise of some moral absolute he's convinced himself of. an anti-hero more than a villain. like...example, Martin Smarty's tween son who wants to free all the animals. letting the animals run loose was wrong and more a detriment to them than a help, but it's under the guise of his personal morality about animals in cages. so Ron, i can see him convincing himself of something and becoming an anti-hero in that regard. but! this would only happen if he was no longer with Kim. his canon role is Kim's side-kick and he likes that role. he'd only choose some alternate path if being with her in any capacity was no longer available. his entire life from preschool has been to be her support. so that would first have to be stripped away.

Wade.... he is most likely to turn villain. was just talking to my friend about this actually. he is only moral because...probably because he's a child and hasn't seen the villainous path. but he's shown villainous tendencies. let's start with his constant power moves. reading Kim's diary. having Ron chipped. these are all morally ehhhhh not so good things. he's always showing off, making a point to say how hard something is just as he accomplishes it. he wants the glory for being the best at what he does. but then we get to an even worse one, what he did to Monique.

this episode more than Grande Size Me is one that disney could have done without... you've got Wade, who is...what in S4 he'd be 12 or 13 years old...inventing a love ray to make any girl fall in love with him. and he uses it repeatedly on Monique is 17 or 18. he's old enough to know better! yes, kids' brains aren't fully developed and kids make poor judgment calls. usually selfish judgment calls, cuz human nature. but. nothing about this was okay, and Ron going along with him was not okay. this makes every mind control scheme of Drakken's look okay by comparison. how far was Wade gonna go with that thing? would he have gotten to the point of ick, kissing? i say ick cuz of the inappropriate age difference and extreme lack of consent going on. this is one sitch where age absolutely matters. these are children and it's not okay.

maybe, maybe when Wade is older he'd see the error of his ways. maybe you can chalk a lot of it up to his youth. but for a supposed good guy, for a supposed hero.... he sure does a LOT of morally not so good things. and Ron going along with this... and really, Kim going along with him microchipping Ron... no one is calling him out on these things. if they serve the greater good, the moral line gets ignored. (like Kim blowing up all the villain lairs but that's its own topic...)

but yeah to get back to the point... Wade is most likely to turn villain. he'd love that glory. it would initially be working for some morally ambiguous gov't or something i'm sure, some anti-hero thing, but he could easily turn to villainy of his own right. something self-serving. idk what his goal would be but...yeah. Wade is no innocent kid.

from the trailer i dont have high expectations tbh, the animation just looks okay... Besides, all the webtoons adaptations into anime so far have disappointed every fanbase: TOG, GOH, and especially Noblesse (because of animation but especially because of pacing). And they also were all monster webtoons with huge fanbase backing them. At least TOG got a season 2 announcement (like 2 years later...) so I hope we can get past a first season considering Netflix also likes to cancel a lot of stuff right after a first season.

On the other hand, it being handled by a kr studio and not a jp one unlike tog (telecom animation), goh (mappa), noblesse (production ig) and is one that worked with netflix on other series before it also means the might be more dedicated??? IDK im trying to not be too pessimistic bc i want past a season 1/2 because I want the gang arcs and Netflix is probably just giving us 12 episodes. Studio mir also made with netflix dota (3 seasons), voltron (8 seasons) and kipo (3 seasons) SO MAYBE...

Also with Solo Leveling having a HUGE fandom that surpasses even the other popular other KR webtoons especially from JP side too, the anime has huge expectations which might also mean we'll finally see a shift in mediocre webtoon anime adaptations and I hope this opens the door to more webtoons getting a chance...

Tbh i'm just hoping we get more than one season because if it flops and we dont that means we won't get another chance any time soon they're most likely not gonna reboot this and i need to at least get to Hostel Arc because I love when the plot opens up to the gangs etc the most

It's obv not fair to criticize a series with only it's first ever episode released n more to come, but from first impressions,, idk stampede as an episode was fun the animation n colors FUCKED but story wise it's a bit of a mess(I'm gonna ramble so uh. More under the cut.) Also a fan of the char redesings they all look so bland now. Why is wolfwood white n doesn't have his regular nose 😭

😭like WHY do they show his backstory Inmidietky ad the episode starts????! That's so weird n really fcuks up the flow of the story tbh,, as someone who's only watched the 90s anime it was always a "wtf is wrong with this guy" and then "OH. OH SO THATS WHAT WRONG" moment when you finally got to the vash:s backstory but now it's inmidietky handed to u n the payoff n suspense is,,, gone.

And also DAMM that episode goes by fast. I was sure that the moment where vash first meets w Meryl n Roberto was like, firs tfew minutes of the EP (i lost connection n had to go back to where i was) and it's like , nearly middle of the whole thing??? The pace is def going fast AF like bro slow down 😭 legit i think the EP (n maybe series as a whole going forward) would have simply benefitted by just... Cutting the whole backstory at the beginning. It doesn't make much sense to have it there. Not knowing what vash is brings more intrigue n interest to his char , and it's just. A more smarter move lmao.

And it's just,,, idk, how would go by this from a cleans slate? As someone who knows nothing of trigun, first getting to know these chars? Sure it's a new story but the fact it's only gonna be 12 eps and DEF not gonna get enough time to flesh out all the things it needs is just 😓 idk, mp100 only had 12 eps but it also had 3 seasons and even still, in those seasons by themselves they told a concise story and nothing ever really felt like it rushed u from place to place... How far do you think S4 will go because I can see they’ve gotten as far as Jack murdering that prostitute (which was in the 220s I think?), but they’re also animating a bunch of S3 material. S3 has the least amount of cut content and that was 60 chapters minus Sekiya and Koito’s backstory. I’m hoping for more than 12 eps or at least S5 coming sooner than 2 years since the manga is finished now.

looking at the trailer for s4 most stuff seems to be lifted from the opening. and based on that the stuff that will get animated:

koito's backstory + tsukishima confrontation 1 episode

boat 1 episode

heita 1 episode

cinematograph half an episode? probably combined with something else/sekiya

since it goes all the way up to boat there's gonna be asirpa & tsurumi's meeting, their fight & escape on the ice, the white bear etc i don't even know, 1 episode?

tanigaki & inkarmat escaping and the birth of bokkiko, 1 episode

which is already 7.5-8 episodes. honestly i'm just trying to think of a good place to cut off the 12 episodes without it feeling TOO incomplete of a story and it seems tough. jack is present twice in the trailer and kikuta & usami are properly introduced in the beginning so maaaaybe chapter 248-250... ish? but that's so much stuff, idk what they could afford to cut off without too much loss for the plot. kind of ready to part with the sperm detective. if 250 is too far then maybe 245 when sugimoto's group reunites with hijikata's? god knows. unless they're gonna make it 2 cours/announce s5 immediately after then i have no idea where they could cut it off nicely. but i do hope for either of those scenarios because by october the manga will be long done.

there's also the fact that they changed the studio so it all depends on the budget gk is given, s4 is either going to be experimental in terms of observing how much profit it's going to generate -> potential renewing, or things are already decided for the long run. in short i have no idea, we can only wait for additional announcements/trailers because the first one was too vague.

Least favorite filler arc... honestly, I'm not a great fan of most fillers anyway, mainly because I just want to know what's going to happen in the mainstory and who has time for filler arcs? I don't remember them all either, but... I did get annoyed by Foxy in particular, sooo probably some of them. Or if it counts... the filler episodes inside the canon Foxy arc?, I was like... why do you want to drag this out?

Canon... (I feel like I'm gonna get hate for this but...) Whole Cake Island arc.... honestly, I did not enjoy watching that at all... Because of several reasons:

I really wanted to go to Wano and this was a major hold up

The crew was seperated yet again?! I wanted them to all be together again. (Also I wanted Zoro to be there to steal Sanji away from his bride 😛 but it's not like I really expected that in any way.)

I don't like Big Mom, or any of her children. (The only ones I can tolerate are Pudding, Lola, and Chiffon, and that's tolerate, not like)

The whole arc took too long (especially the fight with Katakuri - I do not get why he's so popular at all... but maybe I'm missing something) - but maybe this was more an anime thing than a manga thing, idk, I never read the manga that far (want to do that some time though)

I used to have a reoccuring nightmare with singing flowers in them as a child... you know what this arc had? Singing flowers. The exact. same. ones. as in my dreams.

I did like learning more about Sanji's background and his family was okay (like, not okay as people, but okay as in fun/interesting to watch), but I just really disliked the Big Mom part of the arc.

12. favorite and least favorite Warlord

Least favorite: Does Blackbeard count? That would be the obvious answer, wouldn't it? But if we put him aside for a moment: Moria. I thought he was annoying.

Most favorite: this is a little harder. Of the original seven: Mihawk. Of all the ones that have held the title? Probably Law. But it doesn't really feel fair because we see a lot more of Law than we've seen of any of the other Warlords. So I feel like we've had more time to bond with him?

I also have an intense love-hate relationship with Doffy.

And, of course, there is a special place in my heart for my love Buggy.

But yeah, if I have to pick one of them all, I'm probably going with Law.
