trying not to talk too much abt the bear s2 but im Really fuckin frustrated that even with everyone demanding that they’re sooo media literate and sooo smart that no one has talked about claire and the way she sparks audience discomfort. like, she feels out of place within the show because CARMY cannot accept that he is getting this good thing—she feels out of place in HIS life. she’s actually crafted to be the ideal girlfriend, with glowy bokeh lighting in a grocery store and beauty shot close ups and a sweet instrumental leitmotif to show to you, an audience member, that she’s too good to be true in carmys eyes. if you’re an audience member, she raises alarm bells in YOUR head because she raises alarm bells in HIS. he literally tells us that—that’s the crux of his final monologue, that he doesn’t believe he can have the life of food and wines best chef and a life of love and human connection. he doesn’t believe he’s deserving of good things because his family has always been so fucked, because nothing he’s ever tried to hold together has held together—except for his cooking. it’s done this way on purpose, to make you feel that anxiety that he feels around this relationship, and to make you question why you feel it too

i also think that cas as a character fundamentally feels like he doesn't Belong and that's something they did accidentally but can be interpreted as an allegory for multiple different experiences that all resonate with people. Misha has talked about how he wasn't intending him to be Not Like Other Angels, all the angels were supposed to be like that, they just. didn't end up doing that. And because it wasn't intentional at first I think the angel/human cas debate/endgame/storylines resonate differently to different people who relate to it in different ways. Outside of the debate of what should/would most likely happen in canon I've seen a cas actively choosing to be a man be important to people for gender reasons. I've also seen a human!cas who chooses to be human be important as an allegory for leaving a toxic family and choosing your own found family. And I also see angel!cas be important to people as an allegory for neurodivergency and the idea that he should be accepted as an angel the way he is, that there's nothing "wrong" with him as he is. he's such a beautiful complex character and i think people connect with lots of different aspects of him and idk i think it's really cool. i love castiel

For all we know, maybe she did get that comfort she needed after discovering Midnight's body. But there's 2 things I'm thinking about, 1) The way she's been known to dismiss her tears as nothing (probably back in the final exam arc is the best example) and the way she curls into herself here, hides her face from everyone, and 2) How we see this panel and the next time we see her, she's comforting Mina. Concentrating on someone else's sorrow, which to me seems like an effort to be strong for herself and therefore for others around her

fyodor is in a bath of what is likely blood. if i had to guess I'd say it's symbolism for the whole story, really - blood being spilled by him or in his name, so he can achieve his goal. he is deep inside the blood of those the doa have hurt

nikolai has a part of his leg in it. he's helped spill some of that blood, after all, with his murders and his part of the plan to frame the agency. however, he could easily get up and go with barely a stain anywhere else on him. not because his hands are clean, but because he always makes sure he has a way to escape. he has agency. he is not being controlled by fyodor to stay in the tub. he spends time with him willingly - just like he went to meursault to put fyodor and dazai in the game willingly, even though he could escape and no one would even think to look for him.

this art was actually the catalyst to my previous post abt them, bc one interpretation i keep seeing is that fyodor has the upper hand, almost controlling nikolai, probably under the assumption that he's manipulating him somehow (which, tbf, I'm p sure this is what fyodor thought he was doing too)

however i feel like this art is a way to show that's not the case

fyodor has a fork in hand, already in the cake. he could easily just use it and bring it to his mouth, he doesn't need nikolai to feed him, and he'll probably be cleaner about it too. i think, this is symbolism for his original escape plan from meursault - we recently learned that one of the prison guards is a vampire, meaning he had a man on the inside the whole time. nikolai showing up and putting him in this race can technically achieve the same goal - he's still eating the cake after all - but he's definitely making the whole ordeal way messier

it's not that nikolai is 100% in total control or something - fyodor could push him away if he wanted, or possibly kill him in meursault - but he's still the one taking the reigns, making a choice for fyodor, going into his personal space and making sure fyodor notices, both on the inside by putting his fingers in his mouth, and outside by practically enveloping him.

tldr: nikolai 1 always has an escape route. he's not giving in to just whatever fyodor plans 2 is in more control than he might give himself credit for
