Battle Subway Depot Agents (by pig-demon)
When I made designs for these guys last year I didn’t really think they needed colored references/master post, but since then I’ve drawn them a lot! Also people have added them to their fanfics and drawn fanart! So I figured it was time I made a post for easy ref. :]
These designs are obviously free to use, just give credit (and link me your work if you're comfortable, because it makes me happy to see!) All I request is to stay respectful to their pronouns and skin colors, ya knooow… 👍 note: The pokemon on their cards are all companions, not the ones they use on the Battle Subway. Except Jackie...the litwicks are just there to fill space/give them company.
More info under cut:
Edit: Important disclaimer:
These are again my designs/interpretations for the agents. Please don’t treat them as canon or as the only, quintessential designs for these literal background npcs. Many people have done takes on them before and after me, even back in 2010. It feels silly to ask, but due to past experience, I ask that you please DONT hunt down anyone that does a different take on the depot agents!! 👍
Tags:
I'm gonna start tagging them individually, but for now all Depot Agent comics and art on this blog are tagged under Depot Agents.
Height chart:
I’m not too strict about heights, so I don’t really care about actual measurements. Here’s an approximation of what I tend to visualize though:
Tumblr media
Sexualities/Gender Identities: I don't have official labels for each and every agent because I like keeping things fluid for characters to develop these traits on their own. However, as a queer person, I enjoy designing characters who are also queer, therefore I can safely say none of these characters are straight. The ones who are set in stone are Ramses (gay man), Cloud (lesbian woman,) Jackie (non-binary.) Furze uses he/they pronouns but their gender is undetermined. I also welcome anyone giving the agents a different gender identity to suit them (as long as it's done respectfully.)
Notes about each agent...
Cameron:
- Cameron dyes parts of his hair blonde and keeps other parts in black. This is because he is a big fan of Elesa and her fashion choices.  - Though there have been a few occasions to meet his idol, he is always way too nervous to approach her, feeling deep down that he'll mess up somehow. - He practices modeling poses in secret. He loves flourishes and flare, but is simply too insecure to put it on display. - Of his coworkers, he gets along the best with Furze. He's the easiest to talk to because Furze will do most of the talking. - Cameron is easily intimidated — even mean Pokémon can make him nervous. Though, his two worst fears are being left in a room alone with Jackie, and being left alone in a room with Isadore. - He takes advantage of his height to sometimes hide behind some of his coworkers. - Cameron is much better at Pokémon battles than he gives himself credit for. Emmet and Ingo were pleasantly surprised by this, since Cameron was promoted to fit a temporary role on the Battle Subway. They happily made him a permanent member when he proved himself capable. - His Dwebble (Pebby) is secretly very strong, and rushes to protect Cameron when it can. Cam sometimes thinks Pebby helps him feel more confident in himself too.  - If he stumbled into any of his coworkers outside of work, he would simply explode of embarrassment. - He is the youngest child and only son of his family. He lives in his own apartment in Nimbasa.
Cloud:
- Cloud (like Ramses) knew the twins when they were very young. - She used to be an ace trainer in her youth, even going so far to compete in the Pokémon league. Winning and becoming the champ was the most important part of her journey, but something happened along the way that changed that outlook. - It seems with age, her competitiveness has mellowed out. However, she maintains an intense energy when battling.  - Her favorite types are Psychic and Flying types. Swoobat (Sweetie) is her ace.  - Her favorite hobby is baking, and she often bakes sweets for the crew. She knows all their favorite flavors by now! - She prioritizes keeping a friendly relationship with all her coworkers and thinks of them fondly. She considers Ramses family after all the years of working together!  - She is a big fan of Brycen's movies and can recite the lines. - She lives with her wife in Anville. - Cloud loves doing maintenance work both at home and in Gear Station. She enjoys bringing her own tools and industrial flashlight.
Furze:
- Furze only has one volume setting (mid loud,) but he finds himself feeling right at home when talking to either one of the twins. - Furze has ADHD, and this is reflected in some of his habits, most visibly is his fidgeting when sitting still for too long. - He rides a bike to work every day. When he is late, Cloud clocks in for him so he doesn't get in trouble. - This is a kind of a guy that sits crouched gargoyle style on chairs. Only outside of work, of course. Bad posture could get him in trouble. - While working on the Battle Subway, there will be times Furze feels sorry for his opponents and offers to quietly let them pass anyways. This...has also gotten him in trouble. :[ - He went to the same elementary school as Isadore in Castelia. Though Isadore seems to have forgotten their short-lived acquaintance, Furze has not. This is part of the reason Furze claims they are in fact good friends!!! - Furze is the middle child of a big family. He lives with his mom and takes care of her, along with his many Darumakas and Darmanitan. All of his Pokemon have famous trains names. - He collects model trains. Naturally.
Isadore
- Isadore had plans to become the station master the moment he was hired as a depot agent, but alas... (sad trumpet sound.) - As a youth, he was more interested in science and engineering over Pokemon battles. He enjoys the strategizing aspect, at most. Not so much the competitiveness. - In addition, his Pokemon are all rescues and not used for battling. He's had his Watchog (Winston) since he was in his late teens. - His Electrode (Gregor) and Voltorb (Leonard) were rescued from the likes of Team Plasma. - Isadore admits he understands Pokemon better than humans. This has been apparent his whole life. - In spite of acting like a sitcom villain, Isadore cares about the management of Gear Station and the safety of the passengers to an incredible degree. He sees it as a personal life goal to assist in the management of Gear Station, as well as the success of the Battle Subway. - Though it pained him to become a subordinate to the twins, he begrudgingly accepts it for the greater good. - His almost militant efficiency certainly made up for his years of antagonizing the twins before they became the bosses. Ingo and Emmet understand this better than anyone. - Isadore keeps tabs on all of the staff members. So he very well knows all their birthdays and makes it a point to celebrate it. This is by no means a -happy- or -festive- event. It's just customary. - Like Furze, he was originally from Castelia, but now resides in Nimbasa. Isadore's only family is his mom and she lives in his childhood home with their Stoutland. - Isadore would have probably been voiced by every glasses guy ever J. Michael Tatum had he not already been cast as dear Emmet lmao
Jackie
- Jackie is a mystery and they like keeping it that way. When they talk, it's practically impossible to determine what is a lie or truth, especially if the subject is themselves or their background. - They love scaring Cameron the most and will ask to be paired with him whenever possible. They claim Cameron is their "favorite coworker," while Isadore is the least favorite. - It's plain to see why -- Jackie is the only one that doesn't passively tolerate Isadore's tirades. - Though my comics sometimes may allude to Jackie being a ghost/supernatural, this is not confirmed nor canon. I just personally enjoy toying with the concept. : ) That being said...
- Item #: SCP 7453
- Object Class: Euclid
- Special Containment Procedures: The ████ ██████ is ██████ within ████-██████. - Ingo and Emmet choose to not question anything about Jackie, since it's clear they're one of the more efficient workers. However it can be a safety concern... - Cloud and Ramses have worked with Jackie for a long time, though they've forgotten somehow. They believe Jackie is a new hire since they appear to be young. - Anyone trying to make sense of Jackie's employee records simply can't bring themselves to any conclusions. It's better to ignore the inconsistencies. - Jackie has never been seen to leave Gear Station. Jackie has never been seen in anything but their uniform. Jackie has never been confirmed to eat, drink or blink. Jackie knows your secrets. Jackie thinks it's... amusing.
Ramses
- Ramses sometimes misses having a full head of hair, but he thinks his signs of age make him look distinguished. (he is correct.) - Ramses is sort of the "mom friend," making sure everyone's concerns are heard, as well as trying to keep the peace whenever a conflict might arise. - If another coworker is feeling low, Ramses will try to cheer them up with a lighthearted joke or offer advice if they'd like it. - When the twins were promoted to bosses of the Battle Subway, Ramses cried because he felt so proud. - In most circumstances, he is a very simple and logical man. He is quick to find solutions and tries not to fret over the little stuff. It's not good for his heart after all. - His ace is his Pikachu (Musa,) though the mouse is more of a lap pet now. At home, he also has an Audino (Sara) and a Manectric (Nubi) who keep Ramses' husband company. His Klinklang (Moli) is the only one of his personal pokemon that accompany him to work nowadays. - Ramses considers Cloud family. They are best friends and love having family gatherings outside of work. They also gossip a lot, and don't mind when Jackie decides to join. - Ramses jokes about looking forward to retirement, but really doesn't want to leave until he is physically incapable of working anymore. Gear Station is like a second home to him.
In-Game Quotes
Tumblr media
The most important reference of all are their in-game quotes, of course, so I'm adding it to the post. A lot of their personality traits can be extracted and interpreted from these few lines. And I personally love that about Pokemon NPCs -- there's a lot of room to explore and play with. Some appear very obvious. Cameron practically announces that he isn't ready for the battle that's about to ensue and seems genuinely surprised to win. Furze comes out the gate talking about the subject they actually care about, which is their job and their love for trains. The two of them are very easy to understand. Now, Ramses lines allude to a gentle and simple personality. He views himself with humility, and maybe even with a bit of humor comparing himself to a train and to his opponent to a station. If he loses he shows no signs of disappointment, he just accepts defeat with one last honest quip. It s also amusing to see the Depot Agents all use train metaphors to describe themselves since it falls in line with how Ingo and Emmet talk.
In comparison, Cloud does the same thing calling herself the terminal instead. Immediately, she is way more daring, though still keeping a sense of professionalism. To me, it's obvious she is competitive as she even admits she was expecting to win ("Ah...I didn't see it coming.") Jackie's lines are fun since it's up to interpretation if they are being literal or lying. It's almost like they are more interested in confusing/creeping out their opponent than actually beating them. To me, it gives off a mischievous vibe. Isadore's opener "There are only two roads in life." is a curious one because it almost feels like he is trying to be philosophical. Definitely a guy who views himself as an intellectual, regardless if that’s true or not. I like to think it's a saying he really believes in, and it applies to his life. The road he likes (long route) vs the road he hates (shortcut) -- fighting tooth and nail to become boss vs biting his tongue and accepting Ingo and Emmet as the Subway Masters.
Those are just my thoughts on how I write these characters. Please have fun playing with these lines too!

Please can I have some advice about making comics, specifically figuring out panel/page layout? Robber/Robert was beautiful and flowed so nicely
(Sorry, I know that’s a big ask, especially busy as you are! I would be grateful for even the smallest nugget of wisdom!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hey! I know you're specifically referencing Robber/Robert, but all of the tips I gave in my How To Draw Sakana series still mostly apply to the way I make comics!
I plot out important story beats first (and the ending) and fill in little jokes between those mostly on the fly.
Even though RR is mostly digital (unlike Sakana, which is totally traditional), I still thumbnail RR traditionally because it's easier for me to see the whole page that way, and really get a sense of how big each panel and each element within the panel needs to be. All other details are basically omitted at this point, it's really just figuring out page composition. I also write out the dialogue traditionally. Even if I have a good idea of what I want the characters to say in every panel, trying to come up with exact dialogue later in the process always spells disaster for me. So I try to figure out dialogue and thumbnails at the same time.
The 5 in 5 rule is still what governs my panel/page layouts! I feel like the last [5] rule is worded a little poorly: what I mean is that hands can also add a lot to character acting and should be present as often as possible to avoid having too many "talking heads" panels. Even if a page is dialogue heavy, at least having the character gesture with hands or even do a small task (like make coffee or something) during a conversation or monologue will be more satisfying to read. ALSO, BACKGROUNDS ARE GOOD. I know I'm in the minority of people who LOVE drawing very complicated backgrounds, but even a few little lines or shapes or colors here and there behind a character can keep them present in the environment. I always try to Avoid The Void, but it really depends on how important the setting is to your story. I only draw comics with very specific important settings for some reason lol.
RR is in an American comics format (so roughly 10"x15", which is a 2x3 ratio and can scale down to 6x9 for print.) Again, I think it's important to get as much of a sense of how the page will look in the thumbnail stage as possible, without bogging yourself down with too many details. Often characters will just be pegs with circles for heads (and in Rob's case, two little antenna lines that make him look like a cricket), but where they are and how big they are are most crucial. I'd even suggest thumbnailing two consecutive pages right next to each other so you can really see the flow from one to the next.
The rest of the pages only really apply if you're thinking about doing your comic completely traditional. Penciling, inking, and lettering DON'T need to happen on the same page/paper, but I'm used to that workflow so that's how I do it!
LETTERING IS STILL VERY IMPORTANT THOUGH. I'm sorry to be harsh, but there's nothing worse than bad letters on a great looking comic. If you're not feeling great about your lettering capabilities, I'd suggest taking some time with tutorials and practice to get something that really fits your comic style.
FINALLY, it's important to go out there and find comics that you LIKE and really study what they're doing, how they're doing it, and why it speaks to you. Currently I'm looking at a lot of Franco-Belgian comics, which are bigger than american or manga sizes, and CHOCK FULL of backgrounds usually. Some day I'd like to make something that looks similar, so I'm using every comic project I make as practice to get closer and closer to that style.
Anyways, I know that's a lot of images and text, so thank you if you got all the way through it, and I hope it's helpful! If there's something specific you're still confused about, I can always try to explain a little more. Thanks!

Sorry if i'm bothering you/ you dont have to respond, but how do you come up with cool backgrounds and ideas for your fanart drawings? Your stuff is super creative!! I was just curious because i draw characters in the same poses every day 😭❤
I check my tumblr notif every once in a few days but still missed this, so sorry if I was keeping you wait!
Thank you so much for the compliments! 💖💖💖 this makes me really happy, you’re not a bother at all.
Just speaking from my experience, but an artist usually have several ways of kicking off a drawing. If I start off drawing a character without actually knowing what I want to draw, I face the same exact problem as you where all the characters are just there! Standing! That isn’t a bad thing, however. I sketch a lot (roughly and fast ngl) so I immediately shift to the next drawing and considered those my warmups until a solid idea pops up. I love focusing emotions so I often start from drawing emotions on the character before coming up with scenarios for them.
Another way of kicking off a drawing is to start with a general idea. It can be a concept, a dialogue, or a composition.
Examples of said ideas I can recall:
•eremin kissing in a wide bloody background
•Eren holding armin’s face w that bloodied hand
•Flojean in a cell. Floch lives
•Gen with his hand as foreground
Concepts can start forming when you’re drawing so you keep adding in the details, or they can even change completely midway depends on you. No need to commit to it, these are just something to get your engine running!
I firmly believe that putting stories in art make it so much more special. My favorite artist is a comic artist, and they express so much and so well in even the smallest panel, their art is truly my inspiration! So as long as you got your story down and try to express it, every piece of your art is unique in its own way💖
(Also if you notice, all my backgrounds are suuuuper lazy made. I barely drawing them, most are a bunch of gradient and colors. But that’s the whole point, as long as the colors indicate what, where, and the atmosphere I don’t feel the need to draw them out!)
I find my art very rough most of the times, but the skill to let go “refining art” and prioritize dynamic and overall atmosphere are essential. It’s also always beneficial to practice drawing people on different angles and pose because it broadens your options for composition!
One last thing: everyone has a personal library in their head, whether it’s for stories, compositions, cool dialogues, lighting, character designs, music, or more. Your library was built according to your interests and what you consume. Personally I LOVE reading fanfics, watching films and series and animations of the genres I’m into. Watching more media will always give you ideas, once in a while you can go back to your library and think what would you like to see that suits your taste and haven’t been done yet.
OKAY, This replies become super long for some reason😭 I’m not the best person when it comes to explaining my thought process but I’ve always love art questions.
Anyway I hope this helps! May your drawing journey be filled with joy

hellohello, i stalk you consistently on tumblr and a03, probably one of my favourite writers, i love the way you move between action and description, it resonates with me a lot, especially following lilith and her own journey, i can place myself in her shoes but also within other groups of the story.
as per my previous mention of stalking, i kinda noticed you weren't posting as much, and am also now /worried/! i hope everything is okay and that you're doing well! hopefully this doesn't come off as imposing or rude but i really hope you haven't dropped this fic, i am clinging to it and kinda /have/ to know where it goes.
please feel free not to reply to this, just wanted to send my love and many, many, many thanks for writing so well, i love off to the races, i saw another ask talking about how it kind of felt real? like i can't agree enough, the balance between actions and the fantasy of a story is so well done. the whole 'it wasn't quite legal' and the reveal of her personal life through the background checks, the intel team pushing it too far, idk its just, plot twist after another but in such a well paced way. like how is this only 6 chapters, yet so juicy?
also gaz! i adore your choice of their friendship, i feel like a lot of cod writers rely too heavily on soap for comic relief and friendship with their oc/reader, which is lovely but i totally fucking agree so hard with the fact that lilith would've befriended gaz first as he's understated but dependable, it works so well.
one last thing, the pacing of the relationship between price and lilith. chefs kiss. the back and forth, him struggling between trying to maintain his team and the morality of practically kidnapping someone, then getting softer as it becomes clear she isn't a threat? again, so fucking well timed and balanced. the hug. THE HUG. her guard being up and him knowing it is, approaching her with the right temperance, letting her lash out for a bit before he takes control again??? wtf. its so good. the best part is, you don't spoon feed the reader like a lot of fanfic writers do, it is left with description and dialogue, i'm lead into the situation with them, im THERE with them. in the rain. i was there, i KNOW IT.
my goodness, i am honestly floored at this, thankyouthankyou.
im mildly terrified that my lull in posting has been noticed, i think i mentioned it in my last ask but i have just been through really important exams. i crammed out another chapter or so of Off to the races and then completely burnt out after everything, so please bare with me, i am recovering mentally and want to put out good writing, so thank you so much for the concern, i am most definitely not cancelling Off to the races just taking a few days to recoup.
i was also there with them in the rain, lurking somewhere so ;)

271. Sonic Universe #4
Tumblr media
The Shadow Saga (Part 4 of 4): The Ultimate Lifeform
Writer: Ian Flynn Pencils: Tracy Yardley! Colors: Jason Jensen
Before we get started, it's important to note that this issue likely takes place a short time after the upcoming two issues, but for the sake of continuity as well as plot pacing, I've decided to cover this one first, especially since it doesn't overlap with the events of the next two issues at all. Shadow and Rouge are suited up and ready to go into the Special Zone in search of another Chaos Emerald, and Shadow is unconcerned, as he thinks the mission should be fairly routine. They're teleported into the zone by Hope's device, and sure enough, the giant freaky panda god Feist is there, ready to test some mortals for funsies in return for a Chaos Emerald.
Tumblr media
Feist cackles and says that since he creates the rules of this zone, Shadow's own powers won't work, as even if he's the "ultimate lifeform" Feist is a god and therefore holds power over him. Shadow and Rouge quickly start trying to navigate Feist's little maze, using their respective strengths to dodge obstacles, but Feist has deliberately set them up for failure, and laughs at them as they run out of time just a moment before Rouge can grab the green Chaos Emer- wait, what? The green emerald? That one was already retrieved from the Sol Dimension! For whatever reason, Jason apparently completely forgot that not all the emeralds are green anymore, and miscolored this one, which was intended to be the red one. Ian handwaved it away later by saying Feist made it look that way to confuse them or whatever, but the color was also quietly corrected to red in future reprints, so it clearly wasn't intended. Anyway, Shadow and Rouge are booted out of the zone without their prize, much to Hope and Commander Tower's shock.
Tumblr media
Okay, first of all, Tower, there's literally no need to be an asshole about this. There were already problems just getting into the Special Zone in the first place, it's downright idiotic to think it would just be a total piece of cake to retrieve one of the emeralds within after all that. And second of all, for goodness' sake, Shadow, stop blaming yourself for goddamn everything! Oh no, you didn't immediately succeed at everything you've tried! Ultimate lifeform or not, you're still an ordinary sentient being with ordinary sentient thought processes. Shadow, moping and upset, heads to the facility's gym and begins beating the crap out of Omega, who is surprised and makes a weird comment about how it's he who "usually" comes to Shadow for sparring practice. I'm… a little baffled at this comment, honestly, because it makes it sound like Omega's been around for a while now and he and Shadow regularly beat each other up, even though the very last issue implied that this issue's story is taking place like, the day after recruiting him. But anyway, Shadow dodges all of Omega's questions and attacks, while Omega rather tactlessly points out that now that he's received his clearance for duty, he can come with them on their next mission and blast Feist for them. This pisses Shadow off, and he stalks away to find a quiet spot near the top of the base.
Oh, speaking of which, has anyone been wondering where GUN is actually based? We know they're part of Station Square's security force, but multiple past issues have made vague allusions to the United Federation having more than one territory around the world, and generally being a lot bigger than it was previously portrayed as being (remember when the Mobians and entire outside world didn't even know Station Square existed? Ah, the weird old days). Well, here we get a clue as to where this GUN base is located. Shadow is moping at the top of the mountain that houses the base, and Hope appears there too, surprised to see Shadow as she'd thought this was her own personal hidden thinking spot. She tries to make conversation, enthusing about the view and how "On a clear day, you can see all the way to Soleanna!" I've already noted that Sonic '06 technically took place, if you can call it that, in the comics universe, so obviously Soleanna would have to exist as well. My point here is more about the location of Soleanna. The aesthetic of the kingdom's capital city is vaguely Venetian, indicating it's probably located somewhere analogous to modern-day Italy, so for it to be visible from the top of this mountain, this GUN base would have to be somewhere in Europe. Because I'm extra, I took a look at the position of these two relative to the sun in the background, and if we assume this scene takes place in the afternoon, then the base would be somewhere north of Soleanna - so if Soleanna is indeed located on the coast where Italy currently, then that all checks out nicely. Just a fun fact for y'all!
Anyway, I'm getting way too into the small details here. Hope, noticing that Shadow refuses to make conversation despite her efforts, tries to comfort him, but Shadow just insists that since he's the ultimate lifeform he's not supposed to fail. This is, of course, ridiculous, and Hope points this out, adding that in her opinion he hasn't failed as badly as she has. She tells him the story of how Snively encouraged her to leave Knothole and how she feels too guilty to go back after its destruction, which rouses Shadow somewhat, becoming concerned when she starts to cry. He tells her that leaving was hardly a failure, that she had no way of knowing what would happen and that it wasn't a bad thing to want to push her own boundaries by exploring her role in the world. She smiles and fires back that he can't blame himself for his own failures then, and points out that in the end his "failed" mission was actually excellent reconnaissance and that now that he understands better what he'll be facing, he's just set himself up for future success. This makes Shadow pause, as he's obviously not thought of it like this before.
Tumblr media
Now that is how you write a Shadow. It's weird when people try to characterize him as this edgy, brooding, angry violent character who would never allow himself to be soft or emotional. Sure, he has an ego that he has to protect, and he likes to show off how tough he is on occasion, but Hope's analysis here is accurate - he's literally an eternal teenager who's just trying to figure out where he belongs in the grand scheme of things. Furthermore, Shadow the Hedgehog is great with children and no one will ever ever change my mind on this. So there.
Soon after their talk, Shadow, Rouge, and Omega have gathered at the teleporter for their next foray into the Special Zone. They've christened themselves "Team Dark," something which Rouge and Hope both seem a bit baffled at but which Tower seems to think is apt. They make it back into the Special Zone, and when Feist gloats at them for coming back for another round, both Omega and Shadow become riled, wanting to go on the offensive, though Rouge holds them back. Feist conjures up another challenge for them, this time in the form of a weird 3D-cube-maze-thing, and mocks them as they do their best to find the center. They eventually end up in a chamber with spikes at the bottom and the Chaos Emerald at the center, but Feist covers the emerald with a bunch of multicolored, useless gems, giving Omega the chance to use his beloved guns to blast a hole in them, giving Shadow an opening.
Tumblr media
Feist, you're a real asshole, you know that? He brings them back to his sphere… platform… thing to mock them some more, and Omega begins begging for the chance to pursue "Plan B" like an excited child on Christmas. He's delighted when Rouge gives her permission, and immediately launches half his weight in ammunition into Feist's face, having to be literally dragged away from the screaming panda by Rouge to prevent him from standing there and firing at him for the rest of the day.
Tumblr media
Woo! Go Team Dark! Hope hugs Shadow and congratulates him, and Tower is similarly pleased, accepting the emerald from his agents and eager to make GUN a "force to be reckoned with" with the power of their two emeralds. Normally, that statement might set off a few red flags, especially concerning these guys' history of, y'know, murdering innocent terminally ill children who get in the way of their bullets, but luckily fifty years has been enough for them to change for the better (I sincerely doubt Shadow would ever agree to work for them otherwise). This issue ends with a single page teasing the next arc of SU, featuring an adult Knuckles and Julie-Su getting ready to leave on some kind of trip and trusting their daughter Lara-Su to take over things while… they're… oh for the love of Chaos, this again?! We're really going back to the future? Only this time, it's thirty years into the future instead of twenty-five. Ugh, I wanted to be done with this AU, but I guess we're careening right back into it… But first, of course, the two-part finale to the sixth era of the preboot, the shortest era so far!

Nother Update
Lol always writing these when I am not home.
So last update wasn't to long ago. But eh I like writing.
First things first: Like I said I am in my first semester of my Bachelor of Science so a large chunk of my time involves studying. Despite that there is still plenty of time to do work on other stuff!
Second: Journey of a Wott will be back next month! Once chapter two is done I may rework the design. I will at the earliest upload a page on the 3rd(Don't want to upload on April fools, + time zones) but at the latest between 3rd and 15th of April. Pages will not follow a strict upload schedule, there will be one every other week.
Third: My own projects, there are plenty from fanfiction, videos to animations etc. For now I am easing into things, I afterall get overwhelmed quickly. My shiny hunting channel is my way to ease into it, learning some things along the way.
Some projects that I am working on seperately are:
-> Fanfiction(Unlucky is the stranger) which I'll only upload when the first version gets its rewrite lol. Currently taking a break in favour of school and making a proper plot and worldbuilding. I write for hours so I can only work on this on days I know I have no obligations. (I lost track of everything around me last time, so I am a bit scared of losing track again, therefore I am more cautious on how and when I'll work on it)
-> 2.)Plushies! Working on the Finneon plushies, I was a bit discouraged since I said I would work on the next ones of Batch 1, but from the get go I wanted to finish the next 3 Finneon plushies first. So that is what I am going to do! Due to colour variations it will be 4 in the end. After the next one(number 2) I intend to redraw the pattern entirely, just had a few issues, but also want to make a pattern that everyone can freely use. I work on the plush whenever I feel like it or need a break from other stuff.
-> Youtube, generally I'd love to do all my projects at once, but I know how badly I'd fail if I did that. So the shiny hunt channel is up. Like I mentioned it is like a test run and to ease more into work, editing etc. It also serves as my archive for my catches. I use a tumblr blog for archiving my shiny hunts as well. My plan is to animate my intros/outros for all of my planned channels, even if I won't do anything with the channels until I am certain that I won't be overwhelmed. I do plan to do an animation, gaming and commentary/story telling channel, but that would be too much on me right now. But that said Main channel would consist of stories/commentary of stuff that interest me and shorts similar to the comic I mention later. The animation channel would be Map parts, practices, animated songs and animation memes. Then there is also the gaming channel, which I thought about doing silent playthrough and stream re-uploads(my twitch streams). But that is all dreaming big and for now unrealistic to approach.(Unlike the Shiny channel obviously none of the channels would have daily uploads lol)
->Comics, like mentioned JoaW will come back soon. Even if I did not practice as much as I would have liked, I feel a lot more confident about my art! My backgrounds still suck though lol. Anyway I do plan to do a comic series of my own, but more of one-shots, like these 4 panel comics. Which is what I want to use my 6 legged characters for. But! I'm not ready to do that yet lol. I still have to design 6, maybe even more characters since geez I have plenty of different hobbies and fields and they represent a field each. Relateable comics/or simple jokes. That way I get to draw them and make some comics afterall. All my other comic projects which I surely mentioned before are cancelled or better said on hold until I actually manage to work on them. Just don't expect anything but JoaW(Kilian bless your patience with me, really) and that new comic.(that said no idea when I do that comic series, I'll take my time with JoaW and ease back into a healthy workschedule and mindset first)
->On the otherhand when I do have the time I'll go ahead and study/learn to make my own music as well as 3D modelling. In general I want my own music to use and make my own remixes and so forth, just always interested, but never took the time to properly study. 3D Modelling is too aid me in plush making as well.
-> I pushed back my plans in Game development and book writing. Fanfictions themselves right now are for preparing me for writing books in the next couple of years. That and I don't want to publish anything under my current name. I want to transition first, specifically change my name first. I just hate the thought about publishing anything under my deadname, bad enough that I am a closet case everywhere but online and my closest family. I am currently slowly easing i to a proper work/healthy schedule and work load. Which consists of 3 things lol, School, Shiny channel, soon comic again. That and boosting my self esteem. Since at the moment social anxiety is pretty unmanageable. (the point of need a therapist but like I have too much anxiety to go/find one) So... slowly I'm building up my confidence to find a therapist for that (I obviously need one after all). Granted I am no where near as bad as like 1-2 years ago, but dang. I'm adult, can't always asked family to help me out. Not that they(some) take this struggle seriously. :/ But that is just me venting. I found some ways to cope which improved lots for me as well as giving myself talks to boost my confidence/self esteem. Just need to remind myself of a specific goal of myself really, and viola I am motivated again hehe. That and the reminder that I stress myself over nothing all the time. Ah but I rambled enough.
Tldr: JoaW is coming back in April, I have a shiny hunt channel to ease into (youtube)work, and I am doing my bachelor meaning spent lots of time studying. I have lots of stuff planned, but until I can manage it won't even be started.

Evaluative statement PP2
I learned a lot in my second year. I also end it with a lot of questions and ideas in my head. First of all I will talk about my feelings after the museum/gallery visits of this second year. In a second time, I will talk about the workshops, what they brought me and the impact they had on my work and my progress as an artist. Then I would talk about the development of my practice, the tools and support I have used. Finally, I would talk about my plans for the future and my professional projects.
This year I had the chance and opportunity to visit several museums and galleries. However, I regret not having managed my time better to go to more openings and exhibitions. As an artist I am curious about the work of others and I am also deeply convinced that it is important for my own work to document, inspire and feed off from the work of other artists. I also believe that visiting museums/galleries is a way to expand my culture and my knowledge of art history. This year I have noticed that I have taken the time to linger and take a more constructive look at the sculptures, especially the one by Rodin and Bourdelle at the Cardiff Museum. In the past I tended to focus on paintings, especially those from the Romantic period and pop art in general, but I think that what has really changed this year is that I really tried to find what I like in every new thing I discover or contemplate.
Tumblr media
This year, there were two key workshops, including discussions with the professors leading these workshops, which gave me a lot for the development of my practice. I had the impression of finding myself much more in the themes of this year's workshops, which motivated me even more to think about how I could improve my practice and my work in general by giving me the courage to take risks in relation to new things I have experienced and where a satisfactory result was not guaranteed. I also felt that I finally did allow myself to try to really take seriously the advice given to me by the teachers for the paintings. The workshops really had a key role for me this year because I really feel that I have progressed but also matured at the same time. A large majority of my body of work from the first semester was based on the workshops I attended.
Tumblr media
This year I really used a lot of different new tools. As far as regards of my painting I stayed on a dominant base of acrylic paint but I also experimented with Indian ink. What has changed compared to the previous year is really the size and the media I used. I used to not really go beyond A4 and use paper but this year I switched to cotton canvas and made several large formats. I also bought more brushes of different sizes that I use depending on the precision of what I need to paint. I used tape and pieces of cardboard that are "everyday" objects in order to make quick and easy patterns for my background. Finally, thanks to my new graphic material : my tablet, I had the possibility to work and develop my characters and their clothes in a virtual way by taking pictures of my background and making graphic sketches on it in order to create a model/ a work guide. This tablet and especially the "Procreate" application opened the doors to many possibilities for me in terms of illustration. Throughout the year I had the time to familiarize myself with this application, so I created illustrations from photos or images from movies, series, internet etc. I was also able to spend time developing my own characters and try my hand at creating several comic book boards. I am very satisfied with what I have produced with this software however I consider that this work is still part of "research" and that I still don't really have something really specific to myself. I also have the impression that thanks to this software I have progressed in the way I tune and choose different colours and I feel it in my paintings as well.
As I gave up on my idea of getting transferred during my undergraduate studies in Toronto, I decided to really dedicate my last year of studies in England to my practice in order to really be up to speed and to have an interesting profile to be able to start my professional life properly. Once I've graduated I plan to return to France for maybe 5-6 months, find a small job in my field or even an internship to gain experience while devoting these few months to familiarize myself with and master software such as Photoshop and Adobe InDesign. I would also like to take an English certification diploma in order to have a level certificate. As English is not my birth language, I wouldn't want this to be a problem for me to find a job. I also plan to put money aside while applying remotely to find a job in Toronto. The idea would be to move once I'm hired and use the half of the money set aside to settle down. My father grew up and spent the first 25 years of his life in Canada and my mother studied in Canada, so it's a bit of a family tradition to make a move there. Also, as a Canadian citizen, I could start working as soon as I arrived on Canadian soil. Out of curiosity I went to see the current job offers compatible with my future degree in Toronto proposed on the Indeed site and I could see that there were quite a few interesting jobs in the field of illustration and animation offering very decent salaries.
I'm really happy with this second year. I really feel like I'm progressing towards who I would like to be as an artist. I think the second year of a degree is really about experimenting and creating a base of work and I really feel like I've been able to accomplish that.
