Hi! Could you explain what you like about Kingdom of Heaven and King Baldwin IV? Asking out of genuine curiosity, I know next to nothing about the movie or the historical person.
Hi Nonny!
Phew! I could write an entire essay on that question, tbh. 😂I'll try to summarize my thoughts, though, so I don't just ramble on and on, lol.
On the film side of things, it (the Director's Cut, not the disaster of a theatrical release) is probably one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen. Despite its inaccuracies (of which there are plenty), there's still a lot that is right about it. The armor in particular is very true to the real life time period it depicts, and I'm a sucker for period-accurate medieval armor in entertainment, lol. The rest of the costumes are gorgeously-designed, with a level of detail that makes them look so good on camera. On top of that, there's just so much obvious effort that was put into set arrangement and the background activity in every shot. And even if the story itself leaves a lot to be desired, there's a ton of memorable/eternally-quotable lines.
King Baldwin IV is perhaps the most compelling character in the whole production, due entirely to Edward Norton's incredible talent. Despite portraying a figure who suffered from one of the most horrific diseases known to mankind, Norton managed to grant Baldwin an almost mesmerizing grace and dignity that lends a certain magnetic quality to his character - all while being restricted to only his gestures, voice, and eyes. Even though he's far from 100% accurate to his historical counterpart (no character in the movie is 100%, for that matter), a surprising amount of his personality does shine through in the very short time he's on the screen.
All in all, it's a captivating look at a rather specific time period not often explored in film, and though it's a mixed bag as far as accuracy goes, I can't help but love it for the good qualities it does have.
I hope that answers your question sufficiently, Nonny! And if you have more specific questions to ask, I'll be happy to answer them if I can. 😁

What do you think is the biggest design miss that araki made?
Sigh.. I'm actually just kind of a suckered and actually don't hate a lot of arakis designs
Their whack and crazy! But I like them their fun to draw
But to have a list of some of my least favirote design choices from araki lol
Blonde santana was so nasty
The World. It's probably one of my least davirote stand designs..
Dios nasty powered up look at the end of part 3, he looks like someone's drugged up granny who got let loose into the sephora for the girls on duty to do whatever to
I love shigechi but what the fick is going on with his head man...
Hazamada having a design I enjoy while being a nasty fuckin guy...
Fugo is a design that I hate the way araki draws his hair mostly because I can tell what he was tryna do, but fuckin sucked at it
GER is also such a huge disappointment as a design especially after getting treated to Silver Chariots beautiful swag requiem. I feel like araki wanted a specific vibe with it and it just didn't hit the mark
Diavolos whole cucking design tbh, I really don't like it. But the fact that his tattoos are based on a cute netted top is so sad because araki fucking sucks are drawing tattoos so fucking much, he shoulda just kept it as a mesh top...
Not really a design element, but arakis whole fatphobia and not seemingly to be able to draw fat characters as not evil or a joke. Because I hate to say it, araki has shown clear skills in being able to draw fat people and do a good job that looks good! But he doesn't seem to know how to be normal and treat fat people like normal enjoyable characters
OK THIS OKE HURTS THE MOST TO SAY IM SO SORRY BUT.... emres fucking outfit yall. I think it sucks so hard what the ever loving fuck is she wearing yall.. the elf tunic with the sweater vest and sweat pants... she's so nicely put togeather from the neck up.
... I just dont really like diver downs design.. sorry or whatever lol
Araki slimming down and making hot pants smaller and curvier as SBR went on...
Giving mountain tim such a sick awesome design only to make him suck at the very last second
In a silent way was just bad, like that's not a hard point to make it was a bad call
Ok... I take a lot of love with fucked up designs that I acknowledge as being typical 'weird fucked up designs araki has done' and actually love them... but what the fuck is up with Poor Tom like... holy shit what is this look...
The schott keys stands just kinda sucked. They were boring and ones a farther in a soccer ball. The aphex twins chapters some of my least fav jjl chapters sorry they just weren't very fun
And lastly one more sorry to women's and stuff.. but dragons tattoos also suck yall. Araki like 80% of the time is just the worst tattoo designer imo I think their just not very good. I like parts of it but as a full design I'm like.. it's not my favirote

I have a whole ass storyline featuring these two, spawned from that very okayish movie.
Tumblr media
Also a spoiler review:
The sequel was pretty okay. I had a good time watching it. Obv it's very technically impressive and the way that the water ways is very good™️. The designs in general were very neat. Super pleasing from a guy who likes designs. I prefer looking at the human vehicles over the creatures but yknow, sucker for lower sci-fi stuff.
From what I remember of the first movie (which is almost next to none), I think I enjoyed the characters here a lot more. Super Memorable Main Character Jake Sully wasn't at all too interesting here. All he's really got is:
a) guerrilla leader, which the movie skips out a whole lot of potential in the prologue like seriously there was so much they could've done with that but they just didn't
And b) kinda strict father figure. Like I mean, it's something, for sure. But he never really does anything that a father figure wouldn't reasonably do. There was this bit in the beginning were his sons, uh. Noatok and Middle Child, mess up really bad and got a number of folks killed, but Jakesully kinda ignores that and berates Middle Child that he nearly got his brother killed. And his punishment for nearly screwing up a military mission? He's grounded. Around two thirds of what made this dynamic interesting was abandoned when the family bounced. Honestly though I can understand why his character takes a bit of a backseat as the film now has to devote screentime to his kids, which is more of an excuse than the previous film had.
Neytiri has largely the same issues too. I didn't really think of her as anything more than Scary Mom and Spicy Wife, but I don't rlly know what else they could've done with her.
That being said, I liked the kids a whole lot more even if the only ones who had an arc were Middle Child, Kiri, and Spider. Which is. More than ¾s. Anyways they were just kind of fun to be around even if I was getting a little tired of the discrimination aspect, though I understand why that exists. I'm especially happy with what they did with Kiri. Having that dynamic with Grace and Eywa was an amazing concept and I'm very interested to see what they do with it in the next one. I'm personally hoping we see Grace back in her Avatar.
Quaritch, compared to the last movie from what I remember, was way more interesting here than in the last movie (which is more than I can say for his squad. They weren't even particularly harder to kill than any of the human mercs. While the blue was flashy and cool, I'm disappointed with the lost potential here, even if it was only for better action scenes). It's good to see him with an attitude that isn't Military Man. He's also the main reason Spider exists, in and out of universe. At the beginning of the movie I was like "why does this kid exist besides the self inserts for young men" but during his scenes with Quaritch, I'm glad he does. I'm really into the esthetic of the military gear on the wyverns. Mega, Mega cool. Which is another thing.
I'm kind of disappointed with the treatment of the humans here. Very nearly none of them have any sympathetic qualities whatsoever. Even the ex-humans on the Naavi side were basically entirely useless. They only existed to paint a target on the Seal Naavi, telling Jakesully that, yknow, Kiri having seizures underwater could be bad (also it's very convenient that Naavi don't have the instinct to inhale when they suffocate like humans do. Very odd tbh) and to also claim that Kiris visions were caused by brain problems, which, while possible, they have actual, measurable proof that Eywa and her effects on the environment exist (I mean for fecks sake one of thems an Avatar too. Literally just stick him into a tree or some crap. I'm pretty sure they have recordings of Grace confirming this, no?). I sincerely hope this is improved in the next one, like Jesus this is a thing that took me out of the film for a bit
There's also this feeling that this whole conflict is really black and white, as in all the humans are bad guys and all the blue peeps are good guys. I'm no supremacist, and I understand that they're gonna do something with the concept with the introduction of the fire nation, but at least give us at least something to suggest that this conflict isn't that simple, like something more tangible than bullies for the blue side and, y’know, any sign at all that the humans are worried about the future of their people on the sky side.
Something besides all that, that I wish they did, was lean into the mixed esthetic like they did with Quaritch's wyverns. Something I think would've been cool for Jakesully's character. How, although he loves his wife and family and wants to separate himself from the worst parts of his heritage, he still mourns the things he lost. Even Especially if it was only the little things, like beer with friends or the general esthetics of Night City. Another thing that could've made the vibes more mixed. Like the weird coms gear that the Avatars use. I'd like some signs that both humans and Naavi have something to learn from each other, like some technical skills and even just an interest in cultural studies (if Eywa wasn't a force that solves damn well near all their problems and if they had a more open mind on anything that wasn't Eywa, although I could understand why they wouldn't considering the circumstances), and maybe, besides the incredible biology studies, a little bit of culture exchange on the humans side (if they weren't both desperate and assholes and led by a megacorp)
And besides that, some nitpicks
JakeSully's decision to leave when Avatars are targeting his family. Dumb, dumb on multiple levels. 1, You're like the only competent guerrilla leader of these people and you're leaving them high and dry. 2, You're leaving the hallelujah mountains, your most strongly defensible position, as on top of the general hostility of the entire planet, it has electro magnetic shenanigans that make the human instruments malfunction. And 3, if you decide to settle with anyone else, you'll be putting their community into danger by association because you cannot tell me you thought they were just gonna leave you alone if you disappeared from radar for a bit.
Everyone besides the kids lack of concern for Spider. JakeSully takes his family and bounces when he hears he's been captured (altho tbh what was he gonna do besides not leave, massive dumbdumb), and Neytiri takes him for hostage. She was emotional and they had Kiri, but still like wtf both of you. Butthole moves, you guys that was fucked
Why are the whales sapient? They don't seem to have admin privileges like the Naavi (or hands with which to create). What tf is the plan here Eywa
The mosasaur looking thing abandons the chase of a large fish out in open water, in favour of a much skinnier and more inconvenient Middle Child
The sea mercs plans rely nearly entirely on the whales refusal to retaliate in any meaningful way. I don't remember how much damage Middle Childs buddy did in his flashback, but his bros had all been killed. What was the difference between then and now? Where are all the high explosives that you dudes obviously need on standby?
The Sea Naavi dissappear in the middle of the climactic battle
Despite all that tho movie was pretty and I had fun, hoping the next one is better :)

Thoughts and opinions on The Little Mermaid (2023) with SPOILERS.
First of all, i'm so happy to be able to watch it. I've been waiting for it since 2019. And the casting announcement was the reason i became a fan of Chloe x Halle
The casting is perfect! I'm really a sucker for a good casting so....
Halle Bailey is everything Ariel. TBH, it feels like she's not acting that hard coz her expressions and voice are naturally Ariel. She's born to be a Disney princess. I could not imagine another person playing this role. From her face, features, physique, height and voice. She's a whole package.
Jonah Hauer-King is indeed charming. When his casting got announced, i never doubted him coz from his looks, he also has this Disney and Princely face. And i even like his version of Prince Eric better than the animated one.
Melissa McCarthy is great. She is actually terrifying lol but my complaint is that her make-up is lacking and then i found out that a straight person made it. I don't see the Drag in her face. It should have been better. Way better. They should have hired a queer make-up artist or someone in the Drag scene.
I know we all hate Awkwafina, but she actually has this annoying bird voice that is right for the role.
It's my first time to see Jessica Alexander act and whew! I think i might have a new crush. And she's bisexual??? I stan!
I don't have that much say for the other casts, but they are all great and visually amazing.
I expected a lot of changes, but i think it's good that they only changed the things that are necessary. It felt more genuine.
It's not that dark! It was just the right level of darkness for the scenes that are meant to be dark. The day scenes are actually colorful.
I saw a take about the sea creatures not being animated and expressive enough, but i think it's more of the CGI limitations, not the movie itself.
Having said that, Flounder could've been better. Still cute tho.
Halle and Jonah's chemistry is amazing. I'm a hetero-hater, but i was gushing in the theatre. Ariel and Eric are the best Disney live-action couple 💯 And Jalle's friendship offscreen is cute and wholesome.
I'm also a big musical fan so this live-action is special to me because they actually casted a singer and not just a basic one. What i hated about other Disney live-actions is the autotune. It's so annoying.
One of the minor issues i have is that i wished they didn't release too many stills and clips. I was kinda pissed on the "Under the sea" part coz i already saw the majority of it on social media. I wanted to be surprised because that scene was so fun and magical.
They should definitely have a sequel, a prequel, and a mermaid sisters spin-off. It would be a waste to only see them once especially Halle and Jonah's chemistry. The sisters are also too beautiful not to have their own stories coz from how they look, they have really different identities.
People complain too much on animal designs, but ignore the mermaid tails of Ariel and her sisters.
I'm also proud of Halle's acting coz i watched her on Grown.ish and her acting skills and confidence really improved by miles. Even when she lost her voice, she was very expressive. She didn't even have to try that much.
For me, this is the 2nd best Disney live-action so far. My first is still Maleficent.
Idk if I still need to say this, but the soundtrack is on-repeat after I watched. I actually want to rewatch the whole thing with subs coz i can't understand the British accent. lol
Halle Bailey needs to be in more musicals. I just can't get enough. Jessica Alexander should also be in more villain roles. Sapphic villain specifically 🥵
I also liked how Ariel and Prince Eric were longing for each other's world you know. It's a story about freedom really, not wanting to be boxed, and wanting to explore no matter how dangerous it is. It's such a queer allegory. And it's special knowing the original version of Hans Christian Andersen.

Kay Soul Eater fans, finally finished Fire Force
Between the shift in tone and the way they developed the characters, I'm still of the opinion Soul Eater > Fire Force.
But below the cut are my pros and cons for it as a lore prequel
Pros...
The concept of The Evangelist being driven mad by humanity's negative desires and that being the precurser to Asura. I liked the idea of Asura being a Fury driven made by conflicting ideals of justice, driven to fear his own father due to how humanity persieved him for my own fics. The Evangelist was just that, with elements of Asura's design in it, so I'm going to go ahead and say headcanon confirmed.
Arthur's hope and dellusions making Excalibur. Having a creature born from humanity's desire to do good and watch over the new world beginning to end was sweet. And also he was a crazy lil shit the whole time? Perfect.
The cyclical nature of the world. (I.E. the birth and deaths of new worlds being more symbolic of great change, rather than the actual end of the world). This lines up with a lot of anchient myths referenced in both series. Ragnarok's literally named after that concept (specifically the war of the gods). So to have that concept canonized and for SE to start at the beginning of another apocalyptic war where the very nature of the moon and stars changed with new gods awakening is good. Neat, love to see it.
Black Star seemingly being named after the Great Cataclysm. In SE he mentions his name meaning "returning to darkness" and kinda hating it. I found that odd since, clearly that's not what that phrase means in English. (Also, according to SEN, he chose to keep it). But seeing the black sun at the end of FF made it all click.
Witches and Shinigami-sama being two side of the same power. (Liking the concept here, not the execution).
Maka's parents reading to her abt this. You know that lil perfectionist enternalized the shit out of this story. (I'm also a sucker for lil kid designs)
Mid/Neutral
The heavy influence of the Bible on the world building and seeing how that's translated through a Japanese cultural/folklore lens. Interesting to see all that interact with Greek mythology. I was getting in my head abt doing that in my own fics on accident (s2g I'm not trying to make Black Star anime Moses, but now I'm wondering >_>) Always fun seeing how people on the outside interpret something you grew up with.
Kinda like the idea of 8 pillars. I would have rather there been more balance with what the pillars represented instead of an edgy version of Inside Out. It seemed more like a way to countdown toward the apocalypse as opposed to something sustainable in the world building, but I get the idea they were going for. Minus points for them not aligning with any of the Old Ones from SE.
Whimsy being the core part of SE. Like, yeah cartoon logic is abundant. Kind of a clever twist, but also a bummer it insinuates heroes would only exist in a cartoon world.
Animals having magic being different from witches with their own patron diety. Makes sense in the grand scheme of things, doesn't line up with LD thinking Blair was a witch then. LD, did you want Maka to fail the first time on purpose >_> I'd buy that tbh.
Cons
I've said this before, I'll say it again, no god of death??? The more research I do on shinigami, the more this seems like an oversight (they just kinda watch, they don't decide who lives or dies). So you have a god of creation, you have an other world/ afterlife, but no god charged with taking good souls to the other side. Humanity clearly wanted that, they had nuns to pray for it to happen, but that somehow hasn't manifested in the two iterations of the world we've seen? Also would have preferred seeing more than two Old Ones ngl.
Shinigami-sama being able to take godhood from someone. I get that you gotta reset the status quo, but... If he could do that, Asura shouldn't have been an issue. Especially since he's the one who gave him the power in the first place. Why didn't he pull and Aang?
The first witch being Kim with less agency and less control over her power, didn't love it. There's so many different ways they could have set up the catalyst of witches v shinigami. Like nature vs nuture or any other number of things would be more interesting than "catch me if you can". They have a whole realm and religion by the time of SE, there's no seed for that introduced at all.
Where are the werewolves? They supposedly had a whole clan of immortals. Everythings better with werewolves.
Honestly don't buy Rekka being granddaddy Star Clan. There's very little that ties him to the way of the assassin, or the aesthetic other than the eyes. Another missed opportunity.
Are dopplegangers still a thing? Kinda unclear on that one, considering how many were left walking around. This could just be me forgetting something that was said though.
More of a nitpick than a con, the translation I read Shinra said he "changed the value of a life" in order to bring his friends back. Implying death isn't as serious now? That just doesn't feel true given the wieght of character deaths in SE, Sid being the one exception. Just left me feeling a lil icky, didn't like it.
Claiming Kid was in anyway modeled after Shinra. I would have taken LD commenting on Soul looking like Shinra or Black Star acting like him, but Kid is the farthest from that character in every way. Once again, if he was going to do that, Asura was right there. (Also is it just me or did LD seem surprised Kid appeared??? Like humanity manifested him?)

Oh we doing Chicago Style lore I Gotta get in on this. 6, 15, 21, 22, 76, 78 AND special bonus you pick a question you wanna answer if you'd like heheh
6. Is there a battle nexus? Is it a respected facility or operated by criminals?
Oh man I haven't really thought of the battle nexus before...... tbh if I include it I'd like it to be a part of their space arc maybe, so leaning towards it being more of a respected facility, or at the very least an institution that is very clear about how it operates even if some of the rules aren't great
15. Is the Hamato clan history relevant? How did the clan originate?
It's SUPER relevant, much of the plot stems from the story of the Hamato clan. The clan originated from a much larger clan actually that was set to be inherited by two twin brothers. They disagreed on how to run the clan so they split it into two, one called the Hamato and one called the Foot. I don't want to go too much into the specifics of the rest of the history of the clans since I'm planning on a little art piece involving that soon, but basically the two do become enemies and even more important, the Hamato clan are designated as the liaisons between the human and mystic worlds. When Saki defects to the Foot and Yoshi seems to be shirking his duties, a bunch of yokai leaders commission for the turtles to be created to continue to have protectors of the Hamato bloodline. So yeah big effects on the story even just beyond the later fighting with Saki and the Foot over the Shredder armor hakdhskdh
21. Do the turtles time travel?
I know I definitely want them to cause that's a classic tmnt trope at this point but I don't know what that would entail. I really am a sucker for the stuff that loops, like whatever they did in the past affects their existence in the present and because they exist in the present they're able to go back and do those actions in the past, it was always destined to happen, etc. So it'd probably be something along the lines of that + just some fun stuff like always :)
22. If there is a battle nexus, who fights in it?
If I go with it being attached to the space arc, I think all the turtles might end up fighting in it, either on purpose or accidentally. I'm really attached to battle nexus champion Mikey so if they fight he's definitely winning the whole thing hakdhskdhsk 16 years old and champion of the universe(multiverse??) <3
76. Who is your favourite character?
HMMM THIS IS A HARD ONE..... it's like an even split between Leo and Raph, they're so compelling to me..... gives them problems forever and forever.
78. Tell us something you want to share about your au/iteration!
I think of the story for this iteration as split up into 4 main arcs! Each arc is based around a specific turtle and has a major conflict associated with it as the focus, though obviously all plots and character development continue to varying degrees throughout the course of the story. But anyways, in order they are:
Raph - conflict is Foot/Shredder based, deals with the past catching up to them and the cycles of past vs present. Big focus on Raph and Leo's strained relationship and the lengths Raph is driven to for his family, culminating in [REDACTED]
Donnie - conflict centered around the hidden city, marked by delving into mystics even more than before and uncovering secrets of the yokai world and their creation. Donnie's efforts start to unveil the larger webs
Mikey - conflict based on the Krang and associated space adventures (certain time related shenanigans also come to a head), involves truly stepping into the larger world and universe and continuing to follow the threads. Mikey reflects a final coming of age and shaking off forces seeking to control them
Leo - conflict with the pantheon (hello idw fans <3), embodies the final culmination of taking their lives into their own hands and refusing to be used as pawns. Addressing the issue of their influence is the last step Leo needs to take as a leader.
As for a bonus question, I'll answer:
39. Is there a Karai/Miwa?
Honestly? Maybe both! Karai for sure exists in this au, she's the turtles' cousin and ends up on their side of the Foot/Hamato conflict after a while, but I might also have Miwa in there as a person totally removed from most of the plot as Tang Shen's daughter. Not quite sure on that yet though

Woah! okay so I'm not the best at character interpretaition but I wanna try my best.

Rating the Doctors based on how much I like their outfits!
For the Doctors with more than one outfit, I'll be ranking the one I like best!!
This is based off of vibes alone and in some of the classic doctors cases, what I know about them!! Not how much I like them!
War, Fourteen and Fifteen are included!!
What do y'all think? Do you disagree with my ranking? 👀
1) Sixth Doctor
One word- rainbows! As a cat lover I automatically love his outfit. His whole outfit is so colourful that I, as a lover of bright and interesting patterns, am very pleased with it. Give the NuWho Doctors loads of colour in their outfits!!
2) Thirteenth Doctor
It's pretty close to something I'd wear! I'm a sucker for hooded coats, and she also has a lil bit of a rainbow going on in her design so of course I had to factor that in. Really nicely done costume design!!
3) Eighth Doctor
I love his movie outfit! The jacket is such a nice shade of green and its just very stylish.
4) Twelfth Doctor
Another one who just looks like his costumes are super comfy. I especially love it when he's wearing a hoodie, since my own wardrobe is 80 percent hoodies.
5) Fourteenth Doctor
Not a huge fan of the converse, but he's wearing tartan! It's a pretty nice one, so that's a plus. His trenchcoat is a lovely shade of blue too, which definitely brings him up a few notches.
6) Fourth Doctor
Absolutely iconic. Such a vibe, and I love the scarf. Is it impractical and more than three times as long as I am tall? Yes. Is it also an absolute look? Hell yes!
7) Ninth Doctor
An absolutely fitting costume. It's so simple and it works so nicely. Fits his character too.
8) Eleventh Doctor
Bowties are, indeed, cool. Not much else to say :)
9) Seventh Doctor
Another Doctor whose costume looks really comfy. I absolutely love the question marks being all over his jumper. It's simple. I like it.
10) Third Doctor
I don't know him but he looks like a magician and I like that. :D
11) Second Doctor
Another one I don't know very well but his outfit looks cool. I want that massive fur coat so bad.
12) Fifteenth Doctor
It seems that Ncuti Gatwa could rock anything tbh. The orange and brown is very nice on him and it suits him very well, but personally I don't consider it very Doctory.
13) War Doctor
Super cool outfit with the leather trenchcoat. I've always loved the whole vibe of it- I especially love the touch of keeping the sonic in the bandolier. Totally keeps a warrior look. It's a shame there's not much screen time of it.
14) First Doctor
His costume's just a bit too understated for my tastes, which is entirely understandable. It's iconic in its own way.
15) Fifth Doctor
Five seems lovely but his costume's too bright and I can't get over the celery!!
16) Tenth Doctor
I love Ten and his swooshy coat, but this is simply because of his shoes! I have a vendetta against converse. They're so uncomfortable!!

sorry for the Tekken sperging
if you want to have an idea of how much japanese game developer hate women, just look into Tekken tbh
there is no female character beyond 25 years old
since there's been a 15 years old gap between Tekken 2 and Tekken 3, and while ALL the characters who were in Tekken were allowed to get old (Heihachi, Lei, the Laws (father & son), Kazuya, etc.) AND still got included in the next games
Michelle Chang? she got a replaced by her "daughter" Julia in Tekken 3. The William sisters got cryogenized for all this time so they biologically didn't age. And now they're basically doing the same for the next opus by bringing back Kunimitsu....through her lookalike daughter (same mask and all) ??? wtf is this??her daughter doesn't even have the same swag as Kuni. That Kunimitsu #2 looks like a cute anime girl, when Kunimitsu was that mysterious morally ambiguous ninja thief, like- HELLO??
Tumblr media Tumblr media
glo down of the millenium tbh. rEAL KUNI WHOULD NEVER SHOW HER FACE!!!! Tekken hasnt got a decent/original character since Tekken 6 anyway.
Oh and they killed Jun after Tekken 2 (that may or may not be back from the dead somehow, but ofc won't be old cause she DIED AT A YOUNG AGE WHEN JIN WAS STILL A CHILD !!!! so probably her reincarnation, ghost or some random nonsensical shit like that) And let's not talk about Julia tragic makeover between Tekken 6 and 7 and has become a whole different person : she went from a caring, environment defender Native American to....a hyperconnected bimbo'ish geek?? ...all of this was to cater to scrote ofc bc OG Julia wasn't really sexy to begin with (kinda horse girl'ish - she was the equivalent of Hitomi in the DOA franchise imo). I feel like her character was more serious and had so much substance than she does now... I also HATE how there's a gag overkill in the serie (esp the Mishima e.g their endings in Tekken Tag 2 aaaaaand IDC if the TTT are not canon, stop trying to make this dysfunctional family where everyone wants to kill each other look like a comedy skit EVERYTIME, it's getting old) CANT WE HAVE SOME SERIOUS RELEVANT CHARACTERS WHO ACTUALLY MAKE THE PLOT MOVE FORWARD??
Tekken story plot went down the toilet after Tekken 5 anyway, and the overall chara design tanked big time after Tekken 4 (exception for Dragunov who was truly a novelty I'm always a sucker for mute characters and Lars who's my haafu husbando). My biggest Tekken crush has always been Hwoarang and they made him unrecognizable lately (he was perfect in Tekken 5)
But yeah, Tekken hates women, has become shit, and it bums me out so bad bc that's basically my first video game, and the storyline/lore used to be so good (Tekken 3 had the best plot!!! Heihachi shooting Jin -his own grandson- a bullet in the head in his ending got 9 years old me SHOOK. Ogre was sooo creepy, his Tekken Tag Tournament 2 ending is legit nightmare fuel)
I mean, even Dead or Alive that is infamous for catering to scrotes has a more attractive male roaster at this point (Hayate <3). They also did a brilliant chara design overhaul for DOA6 that made the characters so much prettier and is actually consistent and done tastefully.
Because yeah, what shocks me the most is how SHITTY Tekken chara design has become. It peaked with Tekken 4 (Jin Kazama tracksuit will forever be iconic dont @ me) but it's now such a convoluted tacky mess. Characters don't even have their own style anymore. Lars has the same tacky outfits as King (who's a luchador!!!). Also : WHY HAS HE BECOME SO BUFF??? Did he take the same steroids as Chris Redfield?? He was so hot in Tekken 6... WASTE!
They should take a few pages from team Ninja who knows how to make shit done when it comes to rework characters aesthetic. Look at this work of art

imo hbomberguy's original video was an excellent rundown of the broader plagiarism issue, but todd in the shadows' fact check vid is really the reason im pissed at this specific guy, and gives me a bit less sympathy for people who fell for his shit tbh.
like missing the plagiarism and less like... relevant misinformation is one thing- im actually pretty sure i saw a post about the disney gay day thing go around a while back and went "huh neat" and moved on without checking, because why would i check that sort of thing, i don't care about the history of disney. and while we can collectively raise our eyebrows at people not picking up on the celluloid closet-tier theft, if you don't have any interest in more in-depth queer theory or history i does kinda track that you wouldn't know these books exist. i watch random essays as mildly informative background noise all the time; i'm not going to be able to cite any of the organic chemistry sources referenced, no matter how common knowledge it is in-field.
but holy SHIT so much of the facts he very confidently stated were such blatantly biased horseshit that they really should have pinged more radars than they did. i cannot fucking imagine listening to someone tell me that american soldiers primarily enlisted in wwii because the nazis were just so sexy and not thinking something was up there. claiming that subtlety in western movies wasn't invented until the 1960s while gushing over the homosexual subtext in disney cartoons is insulting to your audience's knowledge of their own pop culture, and also their grasp on linear time. if you thought his dig at western theater being entirely tell-don't-show held any water i have to assume you flunked english from 8th grade on, and have never seen a production in your life.
i have not watched his videos, and im not planning to, but frankly there is no amount of contextual padding that will make his commentary on asian media and culture in general less xenophobic and/or infantilizing. the kabuki/noh mixup and disregard for even reading the wikipedia article before discussing how their narratives work aside, the whole thing about the big scary chinese government padding their action movie box office numbers as propaganda exclusively designed to intimidate western audiences is 1) stupid as hell, and 2) yet another offshoot of the right-of-center sinophobia that's been circulating for the last couple five years and i really don't know why people are so willing to defend themselves by saying it isn't their fault that they uncritically swallowed his racist bullshit or accepted it as confirmation of their own biases.
i think that's actually what bothers me the most here. his entire platform was built on stealing other people's ideas and reframing them to tell his audience what they wanted to hear. and i get it! everyone wants to think they're smart and cool and know the real history behind everything, everyone wants to hear that they can continue to like the stuff they like that other people are pushing back against- attack on titan isn't really facist, disney has always been progressive, china's just as awful as you think it is- it's really easy to get suckered into that!! it sucks to hear someone you trusted is a liar, and it's embarrassing to get called out for believing something false, but some of this stuff crumbles so quickly under any measure of critical thinking that defending taking it as gospel is more of a self-own than anything else.
hopefully the current teardown has reminded everyone that people on the internet are frequently full of shit and passed out a few more tips on how to be smarter going forwards.

finished lockwood & co! thoughts time!!
the more comprehensible ones first. the visual direction on this show is fucking genius!! some highlights include: lockwood's outfit (i want that coat), actually being able to see shit during the nighttime scenes, the design of the house, the choice to make lucy wear blue all the time, the stupid little uniforms that kipps and his guys wear, the design of the ghosts, the dream sequence in like episode 2 (?), the red room, etc.
also i called joplin being bad from the second she opened her mouth, i think it was the music that clued me in. hate her. the show did a great job making me extremely uncomfortable when she was around.
i love lockwood. asshole in a suit, and he's got trauma that causes him to be cold and arrogant and distant? sign me the fuck up! he looks good with his own blood running down his face (and i can say that bc his actor is 20)
i knew norrie was gonna die (or something similar) the moment they started talking about future plans in ep 1. still broke me when it happened. the 3 years earlier sequence was probably the most intense introduction to what i thought was gonna be a somewhat typical ya tv show i've ever seen
love that the show doesn't pretend to be self aware, and in fact leans into a lot of tropes and clichés bc it works! if they were too afraid to be seen as too cheesy it would've ruined the whole show, so i'm really glad they weren't
flo <3
i really like the writing. it felt very natural to go from one arc to another, the characters felt tangible, their actions completely within reason for who they are and what they've been through. could've fleshed out winkman (?) a little. he felt a little flat, though maybe he'll make a comeback in another season
they're fucking children. this whole world is fucked. they make children fight fucking ghosts. fucked up world. hope that if they make more seasons this will be addressed in depth. they hinted at it here and there, but i need them to have a full a-plot conflict about it. i haven't read the books but i'm assuming this is a thing that happens in them (and if not they really fumbled the bag)
sorry thinking about flo again.....
thinking about lockwood again. he needs to be bashed in the skull with a 2x4. maybe that'll make him normal. i love him <3
god george reminds me of michael from be more chill. no clue if you've seen it, or listened to the soundtrack, but they're the same person
since we're on the topic of george, that guy is so fucking autistic holy shit! so is flo. autistic in two different directions
i'll probably have more thoughts in a few days, once i've allowed myself to process the show in it's entirety. meanwhile enjoy... whatever this is :3
yessss!!!! so glad you enjoyed it, i'm literally so insane about it at the moment!
all the stuff about the costumes and set design and lighting is just like!!! hell yeah!! we can actually see at night, which is great because that's when the majority of it's set
the characters are all so so great and i love them and they have so much depth and interesting things about them!!! have you picked up on lockwood's socks yet? they start off pink and then as the series progresses they go to blue to match with lucy!!!
and the world building!!!!! you've probably gathered by now that i'm a sucker for good world building and this show!!!!!! has it!!!!! i really fuckin hope we get another season so we can see more of it (but also i'm gonna read the books soon so i'll know if the shit's all addressed)
george is so so autistic. and i get what you mean about flo, very true tbh
how did you feel about the slow burn romance? because i'm obsessed with it! how their hands always touch for a little too long etc
also i can fix kipps. yep. i can make him better. he grew on me towards the end and now i love him. pathetic man. falls exactly in my type
AND YES!! the intro shit was so!!!!! it was just!!! ahhh!!! norrie and lucy 100% had some gay shit going on. and it was so tragic and ajaavqghshshshs
the skull!!! i love/hate it! it's just so funny and silly and evil and manipulative!
and yeah with joplin i had a feeling from when she started talking with george. i was literally calling out 'grooming! grooming moment!' whenever she was with george. and the ending with the bone glass!!!! omg i went insane!
the winkman shit was terrifying, especially the auction. literally gave me goosebumps. but it was all worth it for the locklyle scene with lucy calming him down when he had a panic attack!
anyway as you can tell i'm not normal about this show

Hajime for the ask game??
I love this man so so much
Favorite thing: His voice acting is so so good, his (at least English) VA did such a nice job. Character-wise I find it really funny how he'll complain about doing something for someone and then do it anyway (like when Mahiru asked him to go feed Nagito for her). He's a nice guy but refuses to show it lolol
Least favorite thing: I don't dislike anything about him tbh, maybe his design? I don't hate it, I think it fits for secret reserve course student, I just feel they could've done more.
Favorite line: I could say something meaningful like his future thing at the end of chapter 6, but his man's nut ramble he goes on in the one bonus scene is so fucking funny to me.
BrOTP: Kazuichi, Fuyuhiko, and Hajime hands down. So good
OTP: I'm such a big sucker for Komahinanami
NOTP: Hmm, I don't hate any ships with him that I've seen, maybe Izuru? I think I've seen that before (Maybe Mahiru and Hiyoko too since I headcanon them as lesbians but I don't hate it. Idk, if I thought more about cross game I could probably think of other ones)
Random Headcanon: He would either really love or hate spicy food, no inbetween. I like the idea of him having a really good spice tolerance, so when he gets the hottest option at restaurants it makes Kaz and Fuyuhiko's little baby stomachs hurt just looking at his food.
Unpopular opinion: I don't know if this is unpopular, I don't even know if this counts for Hajime, but I don't like Izuru. I think the reason he exists is interesting for the plot, but I don't like him, and I don't see the hype. Like his whole thing is he's bored and good at everything??? Like, I don't???
Song I associate them with: There are so many good ones for him that I refuse to name one. Some of my favorites are American Healthcare by Penelope Scott, Saint Bernard by Lincoln, and I Can't Handle Change by Roar
Favorite Picture: This sprite. Like it's such a funny pose but he's happy so it makes me happy

"What drew you to my OC", you say- sigh
[cracks knuckles]
[cracks simpery]
Ok I'll start from the beginning 😤 time to expose myself [breathes in]
I've been following your main blog for the longest time, before even daring to make an OC blog (bcuz war flashbacks). I always loved the way you wrote for EVERY boy and it was always so nice and entertaining to read you in my dash (still is 🏃‍♀️). So when I saw you made an OC it was like,,, instant follow and ALSO instant shyness. I wanted to interact so bad but there was this… odd anxiety that I feel when I try to interact with blogs I admire from the shadows kgjd. And I was just starting too, so anxiety levels were just 📈📈📈
In short, yes, I was initially dragged to your OC blog because I knew your writing style and overall understanding of DL beforehand, and seeing you hop in the OC train was just👀👀👀 hello there
However… although it's true that I followed you because you were behind that blog I liked, I knew that it was no guarantee for me to be also interested in the OC, for a number of reasons.
So what made me stay? 🤔
… trashes my previous statement Everything-
sdkjgdfg no fr, from Ryuuto's story, being Richter and Cordelia's son, to his design (OG and current sprites 🛐) and everything in the middle, his development, his personality, his interactions, and the way everything MAKES SENSE is just?? Godlike-
Because ngl, when I read he was a Sakamaki, I was like… oh, okay 👩🏻‍🦯 (not my dislike for S bros showing- SDJF) but then I read more into him, the idea of him being the child of that affair was so clever and interesting to read and learn about (Also it made the url just click in my head and that was so satisfying sFKDFJg). In truth, I'm a sucker for OCs that could as well have a certain role in the canon story that us mortals are not aware of until we meet them- And if it makes sense AND fills some gaps? i'm sold
Don't even make get started with the overall devotion and dedication you have that makes everything seem so effortless and natural, you seem passionate with everything and I love to see it 😩 (like,, Ryuuto's official voice actor? How dare you 👩🏻‍🦯 I didn't need my soul anyway)
WELP. I'm in love with everything you do, apparently 🙄 Not just biased (i hope-), but you clearly make people just LOVE your character; with his flaws, traumas, sass, playfulness, and secrets.
I swear when/if my baby learns about that side of Ryuuto, I- I think it'll be over for everyone involved 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️
Lastly, Ryuulett interactions give me LIFE and I get so excited when I see you in my notes ;; tbh I had the feeling that she wouldn't like him entirely or viceversa, or her playful/daring attitude despite being a rather weak demon would get her in serious trouble at least- What a pleasant surprise to see them both being equally bold and equally teasing each other in the end HAHAHA. I love their dynamic so much and I'm always eager to see what's going to happen next😩🍿
So yeah,,, this is a whole mess, but I hope it makes sense (????)
TL;DR STAN AVA
What drew you to my OC?
// You- I- ROX!!!
YOU'RE SO SO KIND OMG, AAAAAA >< Over here making me blush rn, fr. I didnt know you liked my main, that's so lovely >< You've been following me since I BEGAN this blog??? 😩♥️
IM ON MY KNEES, YOURE SO LOVELYYYYY 🙇‍♀️🙇‍♀️🙇‍♀️🙇‍♀️ IM SO SO TOUCHED TO HEAR YOUR WORDS AAAAA IM ALSO STOKED THAT IT MAKES SENSE TO YOU!! I knew I wanted a Sakamaki (i hear you rollin' your eyes, Rox, lololol <3-) OC, but like,, was SUPER worried because there are all these fanfics of Sakamaki-Sister OCs and didn't want ANYTHING like that, but also didnt want someone that was just a random in the lore, you know? Also making him NOT a bride/diaboy x oc character was something i was ADAMANT from the get-go, so Im SUPER FLATTERED 😩😩😩
THANK YOUUUU 🥺🥺🥺 Ryuuto is like part of my soul now, he's my son and i want to do EVERYTHING for him to make him as canon as possible for an OC (i just rlly hope im not annoying by delaying things, like his route, because im a perfectionist with it too ><). I just really, really want to make the best version of him that I can for his route, fo everyone to enjoy! Don't get me started on the extra scenarios for the other boys routes too. I have like five scenarios per-diaboy that slot within their canon routes to incorporate Ryuuto into them. But anyway, I'm rambling about that-
ALSO THANK YOUUU AAAAA!!! If he's someone you love? Mission accomplished. If he's someone you hate? Mission accomplished, too. So I hope ppl will be able to see his good, bad and awful sides!!
DONT GET ME STARTED ON RYUULETT 🙇‍♀️🙇‍♀️🙇‍♀️🙇‍♀️
THEYRE PEFECT!! DOUBLE THE SASS, DOUBLE THE BOLDNESS, DOUBLE THE TEASING?? It's always so so SO fun interacting with you and your baby 🥺 DEF give me some of that popcorn because it ALWAYS gets intense and I looooveee themmmm 😩
YOU MADE TOTAL SENSE OMG DONT WORRY, YOU DIDNT EVEN NEED TO WRITE SO MUCH BUT IM SO SO GRATEFUL!!
HUUUUGE UNO REVERSE THOUGH FOR THAT TLDR 😤♥️

What about our Diasomnia Dad, Lilia?
Lilia!! Hmmm tbh I dont have many opinions on Lilia I think hes neat! I like his design but as far as interest goes I'm not that interested but I hope to know more about him in ch 7 <3
Romantic otps...none. He is just a silly single dad to me
Non romantic relationships would def be with diasomnia as a whole they're all just so funky I want to see them interacting more!! Also Lilia and Cater is a very interesting dynamic to me I'd like to see them talk more too :)
Unpopular opinion. Idk if this is unpopular because as far as I've seen from the jp side of this fandom it's a pretty normal take but I do not think of Lilia as Diasomnia's dad/father figure besides from Silver💀 I think he's Silver's dad and the relationship he has with Silver is very special. There is a clear difference in how Lilia treats Silver vs how he treats Malleus and Sebek and I feel like it's not doing his and Silver's relationship justice by just assigning him the dad role bc u want Diasomnia to be a "family" (like hcs are one thing !! I can respect that bc I am also sometimes a sucker for found family, but u kno some ppl r insistent that Lilia being Everyone's dad is canon and it's like...ehh)
One thing I wish would happen...tbh idk Lilia is just a very mysterious guy in general so I'd just want to know more about his past ?? And just how he thinks </3

I just finished pokemon violet, and while I have many many gripes with how it runs and certain mechanics, I'm with nearly everyone else I've seen talk about this game in that it's probably my fav.
What makes me really sad tho is that this game had so much more potential to be absolutely phenomenal, had it not been rushed like it was. Imagining what kind of game it could have been with more time and attention,,,, almost makes me hate it as is lmao
stream of consciousness and spoilers under cut
Area Zero man. None of the rest of the scenery really wowed me, but going thru Area Zero... my initial enjoyment of it was a bit dampened by not being able to use Miraidon to get around, but it was still just a cool area and I can't wait to explore it more thoroughly later.
I really liked the rpg-ness of having friends traveling with me. It made the game feel fuller and more impactful. Like a lot of the game until that point was traveling vast expanses of just pokemon, with very small chunks of story happening at ocassional checkpoints. Having people traveling with me who were moving the story along while I traveled made the game flow better and feel like my traveling was part of the story, if that makes sense. Wish it had been a mechanic during any other part of the game (tutorial aside).
Story wise, I guessed the big twist pretty early on, but I think it actually aided my enjoyment? like, the tension of probably knowing Turo's fate while traveling with Arven, who just wants to see his dad.... 😭😭😭
The first Turo fight was cool, I'm a sucker for AI goes rogue but good stories. Everything after that fight tho was kinda,, eh. I didn't find Miraidon's arc super compelling, and the ending felt weird. Idk how to explain, but AI Turo's decision felt more selfish than sacrificial, which didnt tonally mesh well with me. But, it's a kids game, it need a somewhat feel-good ending ig.
Now, my main gripes:
- Performance. This honestly goes without saying; this is everyone's biggest gripe with the game. It's extremely unpolished and runs like shit. I don't think I got over 20 frames at any point. Considering BOTW and Odyssey both came out YEARS before this, there really shouldn't have been this much of an issue making a large open world switch title. This is likely cause by how rushed the game was, and it's so sad to see.
- it's pretty empty. like I said above, there's vast expanses of land to travel thru, but once you've caught the pokemon in the area, it can be a drag to explore because there's nothing else really compelling. Having more story beats outside of towns, or having a traveling companion might have fixed this, but as is it feels like a slog to explore.
- Character customization. I'm getting fucking blue balled by Nintendo, having all these clothing shops in scarvi that they don't do shit bc you're forced to wear one of four outfits the entire game. Like, they were so close. I have to imagine this was due to time constraints, bc the other option is they did it out of spite to prevent boys wearing skirts.... I just was so turned off by the shops as a whole bc this sucked so much ass.
- various QOL: - would have loved repels to prevent small ass pokemon spawning underfoot while I'm trying to get somewhere. - shiny indicator, some of these pokemon are impossible to tell apart (<strike>tandemouse</strike>). - Being able to see the previews of picnic items before you buy them like every other shop item??? - FOR MY POKEMON TO MATCH MY WALKING SPEED IN LETS GO MODE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD. YOU CANT PUT A POKEMON IN THE GAME THAT NEEDS WALKING TO EVOLVE AND THEN HAVE IT NEED TO GO BACK IN ITS POKEBALL EVERY 4 SECONDS.
I don't really have a closing note for this, it's just ramblings at 1am after having binged pokemon for the last week, but I do want to touch on the terastal/paradox pokemon designs. tbh I hateee how the terastal pokemon look. their hats are so so so so stupid looking. but, once I realized that you can change the tera typing, I'm not as mad about it. I get they can't do custom forms for every type for every pokemon, but God are the UGLYYYYY.
As for the paradox pokemon, they look cool, but I think with the premise of future pokemon, it would have been more interesting for them to be organic rather than robotic. I think there was supposed to be a theme of AI thru the game, bit they didn't really dive deep enough into that. It would have been much cooler for the pokemon to be like, crystallized somehow. bc of their relation to the tera crystals and all. idk, future = robots just feels uninspired. Buttttt, they look cool enough, and they paradoxed my fav pokemon, so I think I can let this slide. for now.
EDIT: after I hit post I remembered that Clavell said "cheugy" at me and it made me have to explain cheugy to my wife and I have never been so fucking blindsided by a video game
