okay. So I've finished book 1 of keeper of the lost cities for the first time. And I'm loving this keefe dude already?? Like I never thought I'd like a fictional character so quickly. All it took was like one page for me to fall for him, I am aware that keefe is one of the most loved characters in the fandom, and I can see why (correct me if I'm wrong).

Also the book is a solid 9.5/10, the only thing I was frustrated about was probably the slight info dumping about the whole blackswan thing towards the end? because it took me like 3 reads to understand the whole situation, of course, we could just narrow it down to me being slow too, lol. But I'm VERY excited to continue reading the rest. So while we're at it, I'll put in my first impressions of the characters, so I can look back on it after I've read all the books, to see how much my perception has changed of them.

Sophie- i like her, she's really mature for her age, I keep forgetting that she's like 12 lmao. But she's well written, her emotions seem very raw and natural. Of course, she may seem overpowered but, I think that's the whole point of the story, she is supposed to be overpowered, so I don't mind and i wouldn't call her a Mary sue. Overall great protagonist, my girlie deserves a break tho, she got dumped in the hospital atleast 6 times lol.

Fitz- i actually think he's cool. I liked him better in the beginning of the story tho, I feel like afterwards, the dude kinda just disappeared a little? Keefe and Sophie seemed to have more private interaction than those two, and keefe literally only came by in the middle. But yeah, I feel like he had more of a personality in the start. Keefe and Dex, in my opinion had more personality in 5 minutes than fitz did the whole book, but I wouldn't judge so quickly, it's only the first book after all, Hopefully he'd have more page time in the later books. I still like him tho, just not as much as keefe.

Dex- Yeah he is such a typical best friend, I love him. His beef w the vackers is so funny lol I was relieved when Sophie stuck with him even after she became popular tho, also, he seems to have a crush on sophie right? It's kinda obvious, but overall friendship goals 10/10. I vocally "AWW-ed" after he said "are you kidding, i can't wait to tell everyone that you're my first friend" like I need a guy bestie like him :(

Alden- honestly, my heart warmed so much with his father-like dynamic with sophie tbh. He seemed to genuinely care about her well being, but I don't want to get too attached to him tho, just in case becomes a traitor or some shit later on, you can literally never tell with the adults lol. I've read enough books to back that up. But yeah, i really like him and della, the amount of reassuring hugs he gives sophie really heals me :(, They're like sophies 2nd (well, in her case, 3rd) parents. The amount of effort and lengths Alden put to get her out of trouble is actually sweet.

Elwin- This guy is such a W. He is like an adult keefe tbh. He is probably my favorite adult so far lol.

Cassius- I'm sorry, but Mr jerk face over here reminds me SO much of Lucius Malfoy??? Like ?? I feel so bad for Keefe, like poor baby leave him alone smh. I really wanna deck his royal highness in the face tbh.

Biana- absolutely loathed her in the beginning, she gave off such bad snob vibes lol but I love her now. I like the trope of two people forced to be friends w eachother by someone actually end up becoming friends. It's rather uncommon as far as I've read, atleast.

Grady and Edaline- is it bad that i thought they were going to be evil? Yeah I have so much trust issues, it's concerning. But yeah, they're both big W's, their backstory, their temporary contemplation to reject sophies adoption, everything aligned well with their backstory. Greatly written characters.

And last but not least, the king himself, Keefe- okay, he's like added to my list of fictional crushes now lol (along with Percy Jackson, Jason grace, Steve Harrington, chat noir, Eugene fitzherbert, edmund pevensie and Ravi singh ofc). How does sophie not have a fat crush on him, like- ma'am if you don't want him, I'll take him. But jokes aside, he feels like the most authentic character out of them all, tbh. Epitome of great writing. He was inserted to the story as this random dude that sophie runs into, and becomes an og in like 5 minutes. He is like a mix of Eugene from tangled, Kristoff from Frozen and chat noir from mlb all at the same time?? I cannot wait to see more of him and his backstory, especially with his parents. I know alot of people dislike the humorous guy with depression trope since it's overused, but I like how it played out on keefe, he uses school as an escape, which is very relatable.

Also, bonus, i LOVE the world building, the light leaping and all, very creative. I cannot wait to get my hands on book 2

My Star

Being at this party was the last place I wanted to be right now. I was only here because I had to be, not because I wanted to be. Standing in a room full of complete drunk strangers was not my idea of fun.

I had come with Nick, Matt, Chris, and Madi, but they had all seemed to go their separate ways to network. I, on the other hand, was resting against the wall, a bottle of water firmly clutched in my right hand and my phone in the other.

Scrolling through Instagram, I could see that many influencers had already posted the party on their stories. One picture I saw that caught my eye was Matt and Chris with a baby doll. I laughed softly before sliding my phone back in my pocket.

Scanning the crowd of people, I couldn’t recognize a single person. There were so many people here it was unreal. The sounds of chatter among friends was slowly beginning to get on my nerves.

“Alright everyone!” A loud voice booms on the other side of the room. “Let’s get this party started!” I stand on my tip toes to see it’s the DJ, and the crowd of people cheers as he begins to play “Love Sosa” by Chief Keef at an insanely loud volume.

I immediately begin to feel uncomfortable as my body temperature rises. My head begins to hurt and my vision starts to blur. I can recognize the signs of a panic attack anywhere, so I begin looking for the exit. The room spins as I try to push myself off the wall.

To anyone else at the party, I probably looked like another drunk girl trying to leave, but in reality, I felt like my insides were being clawed out. I franctically search around for the exit, when instead I’m met with a familiar pair of brown doe eyes.

“Y/n, hey,” Madi says, grabbing my arms. “Matt’s been looking for you.” She studies my features for a moment, before leading me to sit down on the couch.

“It’s gonna be okay, I’m gonna call him.” Madi says, looking for his contact in her phone.

I merely nod, the voices around me fading to an annoying buzz. Madi rests her hand on mine as she talks to Matt. I can’t understand what she’s saying though, for everything sounds as if it were underwater.

I hadn’t noticed the tears falling from my eyes until I felt the droplets land on my legs. Madi, keeping a tight grip on my hand, says something along the lines of “Hurry up” before ending the phone call. She rubs my back in a reassuring manner until I’m being lifted into a familiar pair of arms.

“Matt,” I breathe out, meeting his blue eyes.

“Hey baby,” He smiles, putting an arm around me. “Let’s get you out of here, can you walk?”

I nod as he begins to lead me to the exit. Practically stumbling over my own feet, we finally make it as I am greeted by the fresh night air. Although cold, the breeze blowing lightly across my face was refreshing as I felt my lungs begin to open back up.

Matt sits with me against a wall, rubbing small circles on the small of my back. “I’m so sorry I wasn’t with you.” He apologizes.

Wiping the perspiration from my forehead, I look at him. “You’re here now, though. That’s all that matters.”

Even in the night air, I can see his cheeks redden at the statement. “Here,” He passes me my water bottle. “drink some water. It’ll help.”

Taking the water bottle, I take small sips to ease my dry throat. Leaning back against the wall, I tilt my head up to the sky to observe the stars. Instead, I’m met with a black canvas.

“This is what I hate about L.A.” I murmur.

“What’s that, the parties?” Matt questions.

“No,” I reply. “the sky. I can’t see the stars, too many lights.”

Matt chuckles as he grabs my hand. “I promise you, when I bring you to Boston, I’ll show you all the stars the universe has to offer.” He slides closer, placing an arm around my now shivering shoulders. “Although, the only star I need is right here.”

I snort with laughter. “I know you did not just say that.”

Matt smiles. “I knew it would make you smile.”

I roll my eyes. “Whatever you say, lover boy.”

Now it was Matt’s turn to laugh. “Alright,” He says, standing and offering me his hand. “let’s get out of here, hm?”

I take his hand, standing with him. “But what about the party, what about Nick, Chris, and Madi?”

“I wasn’t feeling the party either, plus they can Uber home for all I care. This should encourage them to get their licenses.” Matt snarks, leading me to the parked car.

“Fair point.” I say, quickly texting Chris, Nick, and Madi that we were leaving so they wouldn’t be searching for us.

Matt opens the passenger door for me, allowing me in. He gets in the drivers seat and looks over at me. “Where to, miss?” He asks.

“To the stars.” I sigh wistfully.

Headcannons for sokeefe when they have children

AHHH OKAY OKAY

Keefe is like terrified. Like he cries sm before he first kid is born. He is so scared he's gonna be like his own parents. But once he sees that kid he just...he just knows he's gonna be there for them no matter what. And he is.

Sophie is so scared, but only one of them can be scared at a time. So during her (peaceful elvin) pregnancy, she's pretty relaxed, convincing Keefe he'll do a good job. After the kid is born, however, it's her turn to panic. Keefe comforts her.

Their kids are so sweet. Very emotionally mature. These two KNOW how to raise kids. They will NOT be going through what they had to.

Keefe takes the kids for ice cream and teaches them art (Sophie can't art it's so bad actually)

Keefe takes them to do fun stuff that's not irresponsible

They both take the kids outside a lot

They aren't too strict or relaxed. They're not strict enough to be super big on "No dating until *this* age" but also not saying that some super dangerous reckless kid is good enough for them. Their kids have good heads on their shoulders because they're advised but can make their own mistakes.

Sophie cooks. Keefe physically cannot cook.

Keefe doesn't usually get mad, just disappointed. When they're rude though he's mad.

Keefe has never yelled at them in a serious tone. Like he's loud as hell but when they're in trouble he doesn't yell. He talks to them.

They both explain things to their kids, not just say "because I said so"

Home is very important to them. They're open.

Sophie is still really fun

She teaches her kids to make pies and play her little human games and teaches them a love of reading

She takes her kids to parks and just talks with them yk

When Sophie's mad she's gotten used to not really yelling because of being married to Keefe, but she's still terrifying. Death glare of all time.

Keefe and Sophie love their kids. They're sad when they go to school but at least they have each other

Side note not about kids- since Sophie and Keefe are both Polyglots, they banter in different languages

They teach their kids to fight

Their kids know a little bit about the war, but very little about the sad stuff. Just enough to know the basis but that they're glad they're not there.

I NEED TO VENT ABOUT KOTLC

(WARNING-- I'm kinda a sokeefe hater, obv I'm not gonna trash on their relationship but I gotta share this somewhere)

Fitz and Sophie could've been so good together if Fitz could've put the Vacker name aside. But I can't blame him. He was put on a pedestal his whole life by his dad, at the expense of his other two siblings. HE was the golden child. And then he became cognates with the world's most powerful prodigy. We see so much in the first book how much he prides himself on his level and ability. His legacy (lol) meant EVERYTHING to him!!! Obviously his reaction to Sophie's match list wasn't justified whatsoever, but I hate it when people immediately hate him without taking into consideration his complexity. I adore Fitz.

Now I never really shipped Keefe and Sophie, but after everything they did together it became more obvious they would get together, but it seriously frustrates me how easily Sophie forgives Keefe after he ignored her and betrayed her. He did worse things than Fitz imo, but she just forgave him so easy which I is why I think the fandom loves him so much, because he's like a little wet cat who just needs someone to love him.

Don't get me wrong, i ADOREEEEE Keefe, and his character, but I feel like he wasnt the perfect option for Sophie. I also think Sophie....(Deserved better) IM SORRY DONT COME AFTER ME!!! But Keefe is NOT stable mentally whatsoever, and he needs SERIOUS THERAPY before I think he should get in a relationship.

Again this is only my opinion, and I would love some more opinions from other people, but please be nice I know I'm NOTT in the majority.

Panakes Kisses

Sophie and Keefe were hanging out under the Panakes tree, Keefe being absolutely goofy, as per usual. 

“Maybe I should start calling you Shorty instead of Foster,” Keefe snickered. “You barely even reach my chin!”

Sophie rolled her eyes, smiling. “I’m not that short.”

“If you’re not that short, then why do I have to bend down to kiss you?” Keefe said smugly, running a hand through his already tousled hair. 

Sophie huffed. Keefe had a point- he did have to bend down to kiss her. 

“It’s ok, Foster, I think it’s adorable.” Keefe kissed the top of her head. “Little teeny-tiny Foster.”

“Hey!” Sophie poked him in the side. Big mistake- Keefe was a menace when it came to tickle fights. Within minutes, he had her pinned against the tree, arms against her side, smirking down at her. Then, he bent down and kissed the tip of her nose.

“Ok, fine, you win.” Sophie relented. “But can I get an actual kiss now?” 

“Only if you can reach.” Keefe winked at her. What a dumbass. Sophie tried to push off the tree and give herself some height to kiss Keefe on the lips. Key word: tried. She was still a few inches short, and ended up kissing Keefe’s neck instead, right below his jaw. 

Keefe suddenly released her arms, turning away.

“Sorry,” Sophie mumbled. “You know I’m clumsy.”

“It’s fine.” Keefe squeaked. Why did his voice sound like that? What was wrong?

Sophie walked around to where Keefe was facing, concerned about him. 

“Keefe? What’s wrong?” she asked, confused.

“Noth-nothing,” Keefe stammered, avoiding her gaze. 

Suddenly, Sophie realized that Keefe was blushing bright red. Why was he blushing? A theory popped into her head: maybe Keefe really enjoys neck kisses… 

Well, only one way to find out. Sophie thought gleefully.

“Well, if you’re sure you’re ok, I want to try to kiss you again.” she said slyly, stepping closer to Keefe.

“What is going on in that head of yours, Foster? You’re planning something and I know it.” Keefe eyed Sophie suspiciously. “I don’t trust this…”

“Oh stop being a baby,” Sophie rolled her eyes. “After all, I’m just a teeny-tiny Foster, right?”

She stood on her tiptoes, acting as if she was going to try to kiss him on the lips. She stopped abruptly, looking towards the dinosaur pastures. 

“Keefe, is that Silveny over there?” she asked. Keefe looked over to where she was pointing, oblivious to her sneaky little trap. While Keefe was distracted, Sophie mustered up her courage and pressed a gentle kiss onto Keefe’s neck, right where she had accidentally kissed before. Keefe let out a small gasp.

“Foster-” he began, looking redder than Dex’s hair.

“I knew it!” Sophie shouted triumphantly. “I found your weakness!”

“What? No, you just… surprised me is all.” Keefe weakly tried to explain. “I, uh, uhm…”

“Liar.” Sophie smirked at him. “Now I have something to make fun of you for.”

Keefe made a melodramatic ‘offended’ face. 

“Foster, when have I ever made fun of you?” he asked indignantly. Sophie raised an eyebrow in response. “Ok, ok, I get it, I do that a lot.”

He gently traced circles on her back with his fingertips. 

“But don’t knock it till you try it, m’kay Foster?” Keefe whispered in Sophie’s ear. She shivered. There was a moment where nothing happened, and then… Then, she felt Keefe’s lips on her neck, sending a shiver of electricity down her spine. She let out the same small gasp that Keefe had made earlier. Sophie could feel her heartbeat all the way down in her toes.

Keefe pulled away, flushed and proud. Sophie was sure her face was beet red. 

“Not so cocky now, eh Foster?” Keefe teased. Sophie had no response.

Now she fully understood Keefe’s reaction to the heaven of neck kisses
