Complaining abt Suicide Squad yet again but the fact that they have Waller exposing the alien community to space racist attacks and talking abt how she got to her position through deceit and being a terrible person and stuff is just. Ahsfiwueh JUST SAY YOU DONT KNOW WALLER.
Anyways literally the 3rd mission of the Squad ever (and the first framed as smth Waller picked and not orders from above) was the Squad discrediting and stopping a rogue vigilante who was only arresting POC and funneling white people into white supremacy groups (of which he was the most prominent member) in SUICIDE SQUAD #4. and it's explicitly framed as this mission being personal for Waller that she's hiding from the government bc its illegal like. Guys. Please why are we having her incite (space bc comics) racist attacks now
Also the whole "Amanda got her position through deceit and being a terrible person" NO. she KEPT her position through being shitty and playing complicated political games!!! She wasn't always that way like there is a difference and it is IMPORTANT ppl PLEASEEEE. In Secret Origins #14 we learn Amanda's backstory and she used to be a normal, caring person! Like even after she entered into working in government and politics she wasn't automatically morally bankrupt like please people. She was originally given control of the Squad by Reagan (*sigh* 80s comics...) to distract and get rid of her because she was so successful at pushing progressive social policy in Congress. Acting like she's this static pillar of evil is such a waste of her character and so fucking uninteresting and disrespectful to her arc it drives me MAD.
Like I am NOT saying Waller is all sunshine and rainbows, she fucking SUCKS (said w love <3) but like there's a human being there. It's a progression, she has a character arc like please, DC, please!!! They've fucked up Waller so bad and made her so opaque and uninteresting she can't even be the protagonist of her own story for fucks sake!
Like I don't know how many times I have to scream it until DC hears me or remembers but WALLER IS THE MAIN CHARACTER OF SUICIDE SQUAD. ITS HER BOOK. yet right now she's a cutout to be used as the villain wherever the writers please. Even in her book we get none of her perspective really displayed, no exploration of her thoughts with any kind of understanding of the role she traditionally has played and was made to play in the story.

one thing that I find really really interesting is that in practically every scene where it's just jiraiya and tsunade alone, kishimoto very deliberately draws at least a panel of the two of them being completely silent in each other's companies, even refusing to look at each other.
when jiraiya got drinks with tsunade in og
when he got drinks with her before he left. notice that neither of them are making any eye contact, refusing to look at each other.
the iconic bench scene ofc
why this is important to me is cause I think it's an excellent way on kishi's part to show the dynamic and history between the two of them (and the sannin as a whole too). ((note this isn't a jiratsu post))
the few scenes we get of the two of them talking alone, you always get the impression that there's a secondary, entirely silent conversation going on in the background that only the two of them even know about. a conversation about all the things they cannot say. and he conveys that so well in these deliberate panels. you can SEE in their expressions, in the things that they do say when they choose to break the silence. there's so much between them, so much they yearn to say. and the weight of all of that, the depth of those feelings and emotions, is ultimately what makes them not say anything at all.
because you've known each other since you were SIX years old, you fought WARS together, this is a person you'd put your life on the line for without a second of hesitation. yet. there is a 20 year gap. you haven't spoken with each other for as long as you grew up together too. they've lived an entire lifetime together, but then an entire equally as long lifetime apart. they're the same person they've always been but yet... you can't really recognise the person in front of you. they both can see that they've become shells of the people they used to be. you both have gone through so much, and you know the the other person knows this. you know it so intimately, what things you can say, what things you can't. youre being so careful yet you both know there's this pretense going on.
there's so much left, yet so little. after all of that, what is there even left to be said? what CAN be said? they're already so intimately aware of what the other is thinking, there's nothing new, yet somehow, there's this gap. there's this emptiness that both know they can't really do anything about.
in the end, the sannin are a tragic trio. and kishi does an excellent job of showing this through their stories and histories, sure. but he does an even better job at showing it through their small interactions together. the way they always end up talking about the past, the attempt to bring up happier times (like tsunade trying to reminisce about their genin days as team hiruzen), yet how they ALWAYS come back to ultimately how they fell apart, and the world kept spinning, and all they can do is try to make sure the future doesn't make the same mistakes they did.
what can you even say to someone like that? it must've been so freeing, to have someone that understands them to such an extent. that would know them more than anyone else in the world ever could imagine. and yet. so suffocating. because they're a reminder. a reminder of what you used to be, a reminder of what could've been, a reminder of how everything went wrong, every single mistake you ever made. and so despite the person in front of you being the only person in the world that likely knows exactly how you're feeling, what you're going through, all your experiences, they're also somehow the last person you can ever speak to about any of it. because it becomes like a trap almost. they're constantly reminded of their pasts when they look at each other. how can you ever begin to move on with someone like that right in front of you?
once upon a time, they were the hope of konoha. they were the young shinobi, meant to bring in a new era of peace, meant to be the change. and they wholeheartedly believed this too. and then, to make it to 50, after everything they went through, and realising they were no better off than the generation before them. that everything they ever stood for, ever fought for, were all practically in vain. and how suddenly the people meant to be the change for the future can only hope to make sure there is still even a chance for change for the next generation.
really, what else are they meant to do around each other than continue their little dance or chess game and let the unspoken remain unspoken?

If laena wedded viserys the dance will happen expect rhae*nyra won't get the velaryon support and if anyone thinks otherwise they don't understand coryls and rhaenys
I just got an insanely similar ask right before this one, and I will say the same thing. this is insanely true.
Corlys only backed Rhaenyra and her bastard children because he was desperate to get even a figment of his name near the throne. he only backed Luke and Jace's parenthood through Laenor as it was the only way to "get his blood" on the throne (even if the boys were not truly his, 'history only remembers names').
if Laena had been queen and had children to Viserys, he would have abandoned Rhaenyra the second Jace popped out with brown hair, he wouldn't have even waited for Luke or Joffery to be born.
Rhaenys backs her husband just as much as she wishes to further their shared bloodline, so it would be easy to say she would similarly back Laena's children. we saw her push for Baela and Rhaena to take the claim to Driftmark despite hating Daemon, imagine if Laena's children were born to the thrown through Viserys? she would similarly back Laena and drop Rhaenyra in a heartbeat.
I would even argue they would support Laena prior to Rhaenyra having children and would potentially avoid wedding Laenor to Rhaenyra to begin with (as it would serve them better to marry him to another house to create an ally instead of marrying him to Rhaenyra where it would have little benefit)
the war would be insanely quick and easy if Rhaenyra had attempted to petition her and her childrens claim, she would have no allies and the realm would more than likely drop their oaths.
those TB fans are so delusional sometimes, that their terrible takes only serve to damn their girl more than she already was.

♡ ♡ ♡ ♡ THE BITCH IS BACK ♡ ♡ ♡ ♡
(A moment of appreciation for the drip of Riddler's goons- they look awesome)
GORDON!!!! HES HERE!!! Love that they're bringing in characters that they were blocked from using before. Also a pretty smooth introduction all things considered.
Riddler being Batman's "Guardian Angel" very nice. I do really like it when Riddler seems to have full control / partial control over the city. Guy in the chair Riddler is where hes at his best. (Also him calling Batman and Yin "Detectives" love that he still remembers her being a huge thorn in his side even if he most likely cant remember her name the narcissistic bitch♡)
This is horrifying. I love all the good shots we get of people being Joker gassed but this one really stood out to me of this goon collapsing Infront of the "camera". (also another moment of appreciation for the kickass Riddler goon look- why doesn't the man himself look more like these guys)
Yin being the one to fuck up the Riddlers plans yet again. Yes queen get his ass.
Gordon looks so cool. Its the coat but like still. Also love how this episode lights him.

I think it's so silly when TB fans are trying to slander the greens, but then immediately go with the "don't bring Daemon into this" line. like if you need to ignore such a prominent character (if not the most prominent after Rhaenyra, who he is integral to her storyline and character) to make you point that the TB is better then TG, then maybe, and think about this for a moment, your argument has little standing... wow, shocker.
"oh but the greens did this this and this" they say, ignoring any and all nuance or context for those events, "the blacks never did anything like that" they say, ignoring the fact that everything they did was almost always worse and/or had no backing or reason (that justifies it to any extent), "and don't even try to 'but daemon' me, I don't wanna hear it." I've seen this argument made more times that I can count, and it never ceases to drive me mental.
also, the wishing for the downfall of an entire family, celebrating their terrible deaths and horrific trauma's all because of aegon. like yeah, the botched show version of him deserves some of the best he's in, he is a rapist no matter how much it doesn't make sense and how much it discredits his whole character. but they take it as justification to just dance on the graves of the whole family, which is like... so fucked in so many ways. one man does not damn a whole house.
like listening to (most) TB fans is just like jamming my ear full of glass. they have no logic, no media literacy, hinge their whole arguments on udder bullshit, (attempt) bully those who disagree into submission (the amount of TB fans I've had because me for being stupid and many other words I do not wish to say, because I had a different opinion then them is insane), and all the while they can't even attempt to sound logical. like they're always missing the point, always simplifying characters cause apparently having complex, layered, morally grey characters is the devil. than TG fans are "the problem with this fandom" like??? hello??? your the one defending Daemon for being... Daemon, the one defending the cold blooded maiming and murder of people all cause they stated a fact, defending robbing girls of their claim to their houses thrones. not the Greens, we may defend our characters, but we don't pretend like it never happened or that it was 'cool' and 'bad ass'.
