Hello! I don’t know if you’re doing headcannon requests but if you don’t mind could you do something along the lines of “the brothers find out mc likes to draw and drew the brothers”
Hi! I am doing hc requests so thank you for sending this in! It was actually really fun to write, I really hope you enjoy it <3 Got a little carried away with this one too lol

~~~~~
Lucifer:
He’s doing room checks as usual
And you left your sketchpad/drawing tablet out on your desk
You catch sight of it a bit too late and can only watch as Lucifer moves from your dresser to your desk
He pauses as his eyes spot the sketchpad/tablet
He picks it up and looks at it before glancing at you
“May I?”
You nod and nervously watch him go through your work
His face is unreadable as he goes through drawing after drawing of him and his brothers
It feels like an eternity before he finishes
“Do you do commissions?”
It takes a moment for you to register what he’s said
“...what?”
“I’d like to commission you.”
If you do traditional art he asks for a 30x40 of him and his brothers
If you do digital art he asks for a colored, full-body piece of him and his brothers
He lets you decide how much you want to be paid
But he thinks it’s not enough so he pays you 55,000 Grimm
The 30x40 piece hangs in his study
The colored, full-body piece is printed, framed, and sitting on his desk
Mammon:
He bursts into your room one night when you’re finishing up a drawing of Satan and Asmo
You’re not fast enough to hide it from him
“Is that Satan and Asmo? Oi! Where’s my drawing!?”
Before you can show him anything else he’s speaking again
“N-not that I care! It’s hard to capture this perfection! I can see why you haven’t drawn me!”
He tries to act unbothered, but you can see past his tsundere ways
Once he’s done declaring how unbothered he is, you show him some pieces with him in it
He grabs the pad/tablet excitedly and snatches it from you to marvel over your work
“This is actually really good, ya know? I bet we could make some good Grimm off your little talent.”
You can practically see the dollar signs in his eyes
But you tell him that is not happening and take your pad/tablet back
He’s a bit mopey about it for a little but eventually lets it go when he sees you aren’t budging
When he does have a little bit of Grimm he does commission you for a small piece
The brothers’ eyes almost bulge out of their head when they hear that Mammon actually paid you for work
“What!? The Great Mammon can be nice sometimes! It doesn’t mean anything!”
It means a lot actually
But you’re a pro at reading between the lines with Mammon
Leviathan:
He’s on social media when he sees a drawing on his explore page that he’s absolutely in love with
The art style? Immaculate. He wanted to see so many of his favorite game and anime characters in this style
He imagines Ruri-chan in your art style and his brain just *internet dial-up noises* for about five minutes
He goes to the artist’s profile and starts scrolling through all their posted work
He pauses when he comes across a drawing that looked suspiciously like him in his demon form
The face was blacked out but the serpentine tail, the horns, the diamonds on the neck, the side zipped hoodie
It had to be him
In shock, he scrolls back to the top of the profile and checks out the bio and name of the artist
He is greeted by a very familiar face and name
He is in your room less than 2 minutes later
“You! Y-You did this!?”
You almost drop your pad/tablet thanks to his outburst and abrupt entrance
You look at the DDD that was shoved in your face and slowly nod
You thought he was gonna blow up at you for posting a drawing of him, even though his face wasn’t in it
You are very wrong
Levi becomes your #1 source of income
The moment you finish a piece, he is commissioning you again
You worry that he’s draining his bank account because he tips you very well
But he isn’t bothered at all by it
All of your pieces are on display in his room
He also posts all of your art on his social media and tags you
Your page explodes in popularity and the commissions are rolling in from his online friends
You had no idea otakus pay so well
Mammon is very jealous of the amount of Grimm you have piling up
Satan:
One day he asks you about your hobbies and you tell him you draw
“What do you draw?”
Cue internal conflict on if it’s weird to tell someone you’ve been drawing them and their brothers since you’re always around each other
He senses your hesitation and like the smart ass he is, he’s able to guess exactly why
“Would your hesitance be because of the subject of your art?”
He knows too much for his own good
You decide it’s best for him to see it instead of telling him
Being a fan of literary art, you were worried he may be overly critical of your fine art
He was not the type to sugarcoat anything
However, he simply smiles and hands your pad/tablet back
“You’re incredibly talented, MC.”
A few days later he asks you to tag along with him while he handles something
That ‘something’ is going to feed some stray cats he’s come across
“MC, I’d like to commission you. I’ve found homes for these cats but I want something to remember them by. Will you help me?”
How can you say no to a man holding four cats in his arms?
You take some photos for reference and make four different pieces for him
When you give them to Satan, you swear you’ve never seen a bigger smile on his face
He framed them all and keeps them on top of his bookshelves
Asmodeus:
He found out through Levi’s social media
He commissioned you for a piece of him and the protagonist of a game he recently started playing
This piques Asmo’s interest and he wonders if you’ve ever drawn him before
He approaches you when you’re in the kitchen grabbing a drink
“Hi, darling. I saw the piece you did for Levi and naturally if you’ve done one of him you’ve probably drawn my beauty as well, right?”
You decide to show him since he brought it up
He’s gushing over all of your art
No, seriously, he is praising you so much even the tip of your ears start burning from your blush
He commissions you to draw him in many different ways
Him in his bedroom, him in the bath, him as a mermaid, him as an exotic dancer
He comes to you with so many different ideas
He tests your limits but you actually like that
Beelzebub:
Beel is rather stoic, but he doesn’t mean to be
It was his resting face and smiling was usually reserved for eating yummy food
But you wanted to practice drawing him with different expressions
Beel’s welcoming manner gave you the courage to approach him and ask if you can take some pictures of him to use for a reference
He’s shocked you wanna draw him but agrees with the condition that he gets to see some of your other work
You show him different pieces of him and his brothers and he’s smiling the entire time
“These are all so good. I didn’t know you could draw.”
He commissions a piece of him and Belphegor and one of all seven brothers
But he also asks if he can watch you draw them
You both spend quite a few nights together
You drawing and him munching on snacks and feeding you some every once in a while
His presence is actually pretty calming so you ask him if he minds staying around while you work even after you finish his commission
Beel being Beel, agrees to keep you company
The night usually ends with him carrying you to bed
Sometimes, he takes you to his bed to cuddle
Belphegor:
Belphie was actually the first brother you drew
You came across him asleep in the attic once and he looked so perfect
Your fingers were itching to draw him, so you did
It became a routine for you to head to the attic and draw him while he slept
You always crept out before he woke up
You thought he had no idea of your little practice sessions
But one day you looked down to fix a mistake you made on his nose
When you looked back up you saw Belphie staring right at you
“You know, if you’re gonna draw me the least you can do is show me.”
You try to stammer out an apology as he sits up
“Oh, I don’t care. You don’t make noise or anything, I’m just very hyperaware of my surroundings. So I know when someone is in the same room as me when I sleep.”
He moves over to you and looks at your pad/tablet
“Hm, not bad MC. Show me your other work some time.”
Then he goes back to his sleeping spot, curls up, and falls back asleep
You sit there with your pencil/stylus in your hand, trying to wrap your head around what just happened
But he didn’t seem disturbed so you continue drawing
When he wakes up you show him more of your work featuring his brothers
He asks if he can have a quick sketch you did of him and Beel
You jokingly say he has to pay for it
He actually pays you for it
He puts it up in his room
It’s nice to see when you visit him and Beel
I think you’ve mentioned traveling to viet before and I know you’ve said you are viet so I was just wondering if you have any recommendations for someone going there for the first time in terms of food/places to go/things to do? I’ve done research but I always like getting second opinions from individuals, not just travel blogs or buzzfeed bucket lists. No pressure to reply fast or at all really, I think you’re still on a break (or semi-break?) from tumblr??? I just wanted to send in an ask before I forgot lolololol 🥰
hey, honey bee !! 🌸 yes, i've traveled to vietnam around three years ago? ooo omg okay, time to go back through my insta stories because i document everything about my trips on there aklsjdhfas but yes, i'll list a few foods/places to visit/things to do that i rec! and yes omg i always prefer hearing from individuals about their trips more too since i know them and if their personalities are similar to mine, i might enjoy the things they did? and travel blogs and articles online seem a little more commercialized and go for only the touristy things 🤧 also, this is gonna be all over the place and in different cities because i don't remember exactly where these places all are 😅 i hope this helps, and please let me know how your trip goes if you visit vietnam, sweetpea !!! 💕
also, please be careful of pick pocketers, and vendors will try to scam / jack up the prices on things - you have to haggle with them and be super firm when you don't want something or you're gonna end up buying stuff you don't need. everything is also super duper cheap there because of inflation 🤧
food places:
ngọc châu garden - i loved this restaurant, and we went there twice for lunch!
try the local fruits! i love love love the tropical fruits being sold on the streets, and they're super fresh and yummy
i don't know how brave you are or if your stomach is willing to take this, but truly, the best food would be the street food. it's definitely not the cleanest and would violate the usual health violations, but those asian aunties who settle on a random corner of the street and sell the food out of the baskets they carry around truly make the best, most authentic foods out there. we mostly ate like this, so i don't have exact names for restaurants unfortunately
places to visit:
hồ hoàn kiếm - this is just a really pretty lake in the hanoi, and you can take a nice walk around it. i saw some kids doing a lot of kpop dance covers nearby too :')
hội an - this is the oldest town in vietnam, and it's so so sooo beautiful. it was my most favorite place to visit in vietnam. the town is so beautiful, and they have lanterns hanging everywhere, and the hand made crafts being sold are gorgeous. also, there's a river going down the middle of it, and they light candle flowers and float them down, and aaaa i recommend visiting here the most 💛 we stayed here for a few days to just explore the town and walk around to different shops and such, and yeah, i highly recommend visiting! they also had a bar dedicated solely to mr. bean???
da nang - they have the prettiest beaches !!!! this is what they're known for, and i went to an bang beach and i got such pretty seashells and had a wonderful time relaxing there. they also have incredible seafood being sold right on the beach fronts too, and it's all still fresh and it's like in asian stores where the fish / shellfish are still swimming, but better since they literally just caught it, and you get to pick what you want to eat
bat trang pottery village - the dishes and pottery sold here are so incredibly pretty, and i had to stop myself from buying everything aksljdhfas
chợ bến thành - they sell literally everything here, like fresh produce? cute tourist stuff? random trinkets? super authentic looking luxury bags? you name it, they have it. you have to be really careful of people forcing you to buy things tho, like one lady grabbed my sister's arm and wouldn't let her go after she looked at one of her fake gucci wallets until i told her to let her go in vietnamese askldhf it was lowkey funny how vendors think my sister and i aren't vietnamese and discuss scamming us / jacking up the pricing, and then i speak with them in viet and they suddenly are offering discounts aksljdfa
things to do:
visit a floating market - there are a bunch of these in vietnam, and you usually have to get up early to see them, but it's so worth it! it is a literal floating market. vendors are selling super fresh fruits and veggies and other goods from their boats in the mekong river, they’re tossing the produce to one another across the boats, and it's amazing to see. and also buy some of the local fruit! it's amazing
thang an ninh binh grotto tours - you're on this tiny boat that's rowed by someone else, and they take you on a stunning ride through the caves and grottoes (if you're super claustrophobic, then i would not recommend the route that goes into the caves because it gets really low in there, like we had to bend forward and get down because the ceiling was that low). this was my favorite!
hạ long bay boat tour - this boat tour is absolutely beautiful as well, and the views are different from the one i mentioned above. i highly recommend this one as well! also, we did a bit of super easy kayaking at one of the stopping points during this tour, and it was this peaceful secluded water area surrounded by lush geeenery and cliffs, and it's just incredible
we visited one temple, and it's beautiful, but due to some political reasons and such, the vietnam history they tell during tours is not correct, and my family and i felt uncomfy about that, so we didn't visit any other historical places. but i would recommend visiting temples and pagodas if you appreciate architecture! they are super gorgeous, and the views from the top are amazing
The Immortal Lovers
Mortals wonder, most can’t even fathom what a centuries long relationship is like. Is it bloody, is it passionate, is it kind? Steven and Andrew hear this and laugh. Immortality with your loved one is soft.
I hope you (especially @mousemadej) all love this fic. It was so fun to write.
----
There’s a certain softness that comes when you’ve lived forever. You end up knowing someone intimately. Your souls are so intertwined that where you end and they begin is untraceable.
The crackling of the fire and buzz from the cicadas and fireflies outside filled the room. Steven hands Andrew a cup of hot cocoa before clambering into his lap. Reflexively one hand covers Steven’s stomach while his chin rests on Steven’s shoulder. Together they quietly listen to Ryan and Shane recount one of their weird wonderful world stories. In truth, they stopped believing the story after the bloody pumpkin got involved, but they declined to tell the boys that.
Andrew skates and massages his fingers across Steven’s torso where he’s always sore. One would think the sore spots would move but not for Steven. He aches in the same places, places Andrew has memorized. Finding Steven’s sore spots, tickle spot… is as easy as breathing. If they were alone, Steven would start mouthing at Andrew’s neck. He would begin at the collarbone and make his way up to the shell of the ear. The shiver it elicited delighted Steven to no end. In response, Steven would humm happily into Andrew’s ear and use his arm to play with Andrew’s short golden-brown hair.  To show off his newly acquired strength, Andrew would pick up Steven and take them to bed. The shorter blonde would drink in the sound of Steven’s giggles like they were the freshly pressed wine in Italy.
Of course, they have company, so that’s off the table. Instead, Steven plays with Andrew’s calloused fingers as they trade stories with the self-named paranormal bad boys. When Ryan and Shane tire themselves out, the fancy boys, also penned by the paranormal bad boys, get up to wish them a good bye. By then they’re just exhausted so when they fall into the bed they just fall asleep. Steven curls his long-form around Andrew surrounding him like a blanket.
When work is over for Steven the first person he likes to see is Andrew. He likes to cup his face with his hands and rest their foreheads together. For a while, they just sway pressed together. It's nice to reconnect with your love after a grueling day serving capitalism. Steven breathes him in, the scent of earth and food filling his lungs. Right now he smelled like apple pie, Steven smiled in excitement. Andrew brushes the dirt off his apron before sinking his fingers into Steven’s hair, blue this time. He likes blue the most. It compliments outfits and makes him seem sharper like he was cut from stone. Once he dyed his hair pink though, Andrew won’t lie that he stared at Steven for a long minute before peppering him with kisses.
“Berrie baby. You smell like berries.” Andrew whispered to him one night. The world was silent as they lay together. Steven smiled sleepily against Andrew’s neck.
“Must be yummy or something,” he mused before falling asleep. Andrew thought Steven would drop the conversation, but ever since then Steven usually smells of some sort of berry.
While immortality has its benefits, there are some drawbacks. Sometimes Steven gets a little restless, he likes to go with Ryan and Shane on their demon hunts. Andrew packs him a bag and wishes him well on his travels. Stopping him was always absurd, and going with him was also insane. Andrew never was and never will be a fighter. He waits for Steven to come home instead, praying to gods he no longer beloved in to keep him safe, Adam turns out to be of great help during these times. He visits more often when Steven’s away, being a quiet rock to Andrew’s anxious mess.
Usually, he ends up ok, maybe a few cuts and bruises but generally unharmed. Andrew likes to run his hands over Steven to be 100% sure. When he gets proof that Steven’s not harmed they celebrate. A pie, usually apple, waits for them in the kitchen. Andrew feeds Steven slices as old music filters through the house.
Not all homecomings are that sweet sadly. One time Steven had been gone for two weeks. That in and of itself wasn’t odd, just unfortunate. Andrew had just finished shopping when he heard loud banging at the door. Distinctly making out Ryan’s loud calls, he made his way quickly to the door. It wasn’t Steven calling out to him, he also had a key, so Andrew was doubly nervous. What happened to Steven that Ryan had to be banging worriedly at the door?
Upon opening the door, Andrew’s heart stopped. Shane was cradling a barely conscious Steven in his arms. He quickly let them into the home, pointing them to where they should lay Steven. There was a large spot of blood on Shane's shirt and a matching evergrowing blood spot on Steven. Andrew took a deep breath so he could focus. First he checked Steven’s heartbeat and breathing. It was weaker than he’d like, gasping breaths and slower pumps, but it was there. That would have to be enough for now.
Apparently, they were fighting a demon who got a little too close to Steven. Shane and Ryan had their hands tied to notice it quick enough. When it finally caught their attention, they were too late to save Steven. He pinned to a wall by a seven-foot demon. Slowly, using its tail, it pierced Steven’s side before Ryan was able to rip him away. Shane tried his best to stop the bleeding while Ryan finished off the rest of the demons. As quick as they could, the next place they headed was here, to Andrew.
The man in question pressed his lips into a thin line. All the screams of frustration were bottled up tightly in him. He wanted to rage, at the boys, at the demons, instead, he took a few deep measured breaths. Losing his temper wouldn’t help Steven at all. Andrew directed Shane and Ryan around the house to get supplies while he examined Steven’s wound. It was about two inches deep and five inches long. The cut was a jagged little line that had mostly stopped breathing.
A tentative hand cupped Andrew’s cheek and he wanted to sob. “Hey, hey honey. I-I’m ok.” Steven gasped out. His voice was weak and stuttery. Andrew shushed him quietly, one hand on the wound the other carding through Steven’s hair. Steven leaned into the touch fully, practically purring at the contact. “Missed being home with you. Not always- not always fun being the third wheel.” Steven rambled. He started kissing Andrew’s palm almost happily. Unintentionally, Andrew’s heart fluttered at the action.
They didn’t speak much until Shane came bursting in with the medical supplies, and they didn’t talk much after that. Methodically, Andrew cleaned the wound before stitching it up. Steven tried as best as he could to minimize the pain on his face, but he wasn’t exempt from the occasional wince. Andrew noted it each and every time. He tried to be very careful, he hated putting Steven through any sort of pain. They wanted to give him anesthesia, but it was a hard commodity to come by (and sometimes a useless commodity). To replace anesthesia, Ryan and Shane each held one of Steven’s hands during the stitching.
Luckily it didn’t take too long. Andrew shooed the paranormal bad boys up to a guest room to unwind. He helped Steven to bed, slowly stripping him down before putting some layers back on him. They meandered into bed, Andrew as the big spoon for once.
Steven felt a kiss press onto his forehead. “Never leave me.” The low, syrupy voice begged him.
“Never,” Steven squeezed their hands together. Not many things in life were promised, but this? Steven could promise Andrew this. “Not for anything ever.”
Bonus:
Sunlight bathed a sleeping Steven and Simba who had curled himself into Steven’s side. Unconsciously, he wrapped an arm around his cat as he slept.
In the kitchen, Andrew softly puttered around fixing the food. Adam was there to help him, taking care of the goats, chickens, and pigs. They loved Adam, flocking around him wherever he went. It made it slightly harder to get the eggs from the chicken but he managed. He took his basket of about 14 eggs back to the kitchen.
“The animals like me more,” He teased Andrew in his ever soft voice.
Andrew let a faint smile grace his lips. “Yeah, that’s cause you indulge them.”
Adam tsked. “Excuses, excuses. What are you planning on making?”
“As much as can of anything. A few waffles, pancakes, some sausages, a few biscuits, and eggs. The boys will be starving after this ghost hunt. I’d rather cook too much than not enough.”
“You could make a large bowl of poutine.”
“Too late for that. Help me cook this all before the boys get it.”
“You sound like a prairie wife,” Adam pointed out. Andrew’s glare caused him to bark out laughing. Unbeknownst to them, their ensuing bickering about whether or not Andrew was a prairie wife woke up Steven. Shane and Ryan had already been up and found the argument incredibly amusing. They agreed with Adam, Andrew’s mothering definitely made him a prairie wife. Steven was too groggy to understand what they were saying.
He slowly blinked awake, groaning at the light in his eyes. He felt lethargic like he woke up from a nap in the middle of the day and not a deep sleep. There was a soft licking, tingling feeling on his hand. Frowning, he looked down to see Simba contentedly licking his hand. With his other hand, Steven scratched at Simba and tried to gather his bearings. Andrew’s side of the bed was cold, probably why Simba was snuggled so close to him.
When he tried getting up, a painful ache pierced his side. Looking down he saw bandages covering his side. Memories of last night flooded his brain. The fight, the stab wound, Andrew patching him back up. Steven flinched at the last memory. Andrew probably wasn’t too happy after seeing Steven like that. Unhappy would turn out to be an understatement, considering he was stress cooking. Steven slowly got up, put on a large sweater, picked up Simba, and headed out the door to find Andrew.
Half the meal had finished cooking by the time Steven found them. He watched them quietly before Andrew realized he was there. “Hey, how are you. I didn’t realize you were up.” Steven nodded at him before draping himself across Andrew’s back.
Warm hands encircled Andrew’s waist while Steven’s face was buried in his neck. A low hum raced down Andrew’s spine making him smile. “I guess you’re alright.”
“I don’t like waking up without you. The food looks good though. Good job to you and Adam.”
Andrew twisted his head to press a kiss to the crown of Steven’s head. “Go lie down, let Adam and I take care of this.” Steven would’ve objected but he was already feeling a little tired. He grabbed a water bottle as he went to lie down.
Adam and Andrew laid out all the food on the coffee table just as Shane and Ryan came straggling in. "Hey prarie wife," Ryan called. Adam snorted while Andrew glared at all of them. At Steven's confused face, Shane went over to explain it to him.
"Andrew, you are a prarie wife."
Andrew turned around to glare at his husband. "I thought we are on the same side?!"
A round of laughter rang through the kitchen. Steven readjusted himself to let Andrew sit beside him. "Do you really think I'm a prarie wife?"
Steven just giggled and kissed his husband on the side of his face. Andrew groaned into his hands. Immortality could be bloody, mean, and awful; but it was so so soft.
i overheard... ❄ park seonghwa
Tumblr media
word count: 1,8k
pairings: seonghwa x female reader
genre: angst
summary: you overhear seonghwa calling you clingy, so you decide to stop giving him much attention. seonghwa wonders why.
warnings: very bad writing. thats all.
a/n: i’m so sorry about my english if it’s really bad :( let me know if i got something wrong. (i probably did)
Tumblr media
You knock on the door of the boys’ house, holding a bag of snacks and drinks with you.
The boys were currently working on their comeback, so you knew they were very busy for the past few days but you still messaged them on your group chat, saying “good morning” and asking about the practice. They all answered you, except seonghwa.
You really didn’t mind that seonghwa left you on read very often and that doesn’t stopped you from sending him daily (hourly) messages. You knew he was probably busy with practice, and if he wasn’t he was probably hanging out with hongjoong. You knew your best friend too well to be mad at him for some nothingness like this.
But you still felt a little sad when san was the one to message you, asking you to come over to have a movie night with the boys. Of course you said yes, but you kept asking yourself why seonghwa didn’t tell you anything and San did.
It’s not like you and San weren’t friends, because you were. But among them all, San was the one you had the least nearness with.
And he was the one to answer the door, welcoming you in with a big smile and a warm hug.
“Y/n! You came!” he said, pulling you closer. “We missed you”
“I missed you too” you say, muffled on his chest. He giggled, pushing you away to grab the bags on your hands.
“Come in, they are in the living room. Seonghwa is on the kitchen, he insisted on making something yummy and healthy for us to eat instead of just eating snacks.” San closed the door with his feet, turning away to you while you took out your shoes, silently nodding your head.
You entered the living room, being welcomed with the boys running to engulf you in a big group hug.
“Y/n noona! We missed you so much!” they all said together as you giggled and hugged them all back tightly, trying to not let anyone out.
After a few minutes (yes, you hugged that long because they really missed you and you loved hugs), they let you go and went back to the couch. Seonghwa finally left the kitchen and joined you while Wooyoung was trying to set up the projector they bought to watch movies together.
“Hi, Seonghwa!” you said happily, plopping on his lap and hugging him. He didn’t hug you back. “How are you, best friend? We didn’t talk for sooooo long, I’ve missed you so much”
“I’m fine” that’s all he said, pushing you away so hard that you almost fell from the couch.
You looked at him, scoffing jokingly while you sat on the couch again, next to him, throwing your legs at his lap and cuddling him.
The movie started and Seonghwa wasn’t returning any of your affection, but you didn’t care much about it and kept your eyes on the screen, paying attention to the movie, until you felt Mingi, who was sitting on the floor downeath you, poking your thigh. You looked down, locking your eyes with his sad puppy eyes, making you giggle.
“What’s wrong, Mingi?” you asked, softly.
“Noona, I’m hungry! Can you go to the kitchen grab the things seonghwa made for us?” you nodded, sitting properly on the couch before getting up to leave to the kitchen.
You entered the kitchen, seeing some fried potatoes on the counter along with fried chicken. You laughed to yourself. How is this healthier than snacks?
On your way back to the living room, you stopped on your tracks when you overheard the boys talking about something.
“Why did you push y/n away like that? She almost fell from the couch!” Yeosang asked.
“I don’t like skinship.” Seonghwa replied, unbothered.
“I hug you all the time and you don’t seem to really mind it, hyung.” San said, not having any of it.
“It’s because you’re not clingy with me. She is too clingy, it’s annoying. She is always sending me texts, ‘seonghwa, how are you?’, ‘I miss you!’, ‘hope you had a good day, bestie.’ ‘I saw this and thought of you. What do you think?’ ‘Seonghwa please answer’, it’s annoying. I just wish she’d stop this. I don’t like her at all.”
You felt your heart drop to your stomach. Never, not every one single time you thought seonghwa would feel like that about you. Backing off, you put down the plates on the counter, sniffling softly and trying to not make any of the boys listen to it.
It hurts. Knowing that the boy you’ve considered as your best friend for so long doesn’t even like you as a normal friend. The thought of seonghwa hating you and yet you’re going to him when you had some issue to solve made you feel stupid, and you couldn’t help yourself from crying.
“Noona, did you eat the food all by yourself?” you heard Yunho’s voice, giggling as he asked you. Wiping your tears away, you looked at him, trying to smile as you shocked your head. “Hey, what’s wrong?” he asked again, now clearly worried, coming closer to you and holding your face gently as you looked at him with puffy eyes.
“Nothing…” your voice cracked and you close your eyes as you felt Yunho’s arms surrounding your waist and pulling you into a hug, bringing one hand up to stroke your hair softly.
“You heard him, didn’t you?” he says and you can only nod in his chest, trying so hard to not sob. “Don’t listen to it. Hyung is an idiot and he can’t appreciate you. But I can, okay? We all can. You can be yourself with us” he says, looking down at you even if you couldn’t see it. “I really like your cuddles” and with this, you giggled, hitting his chest jokingly.
The rest of the night went well. you were cuddling with Yunho on the couch while stroking Jongho’s hair, because he was laying on your lap. You tried your best to not spare a look to Seonghwa, because you knew that if you did you were going to start crying.
As you left, you promised yourself that you were not going to talk to Seonghwa anymore. He deserved to be happy and if that means that you should stay away from him, you were going to do it.
When you got home, you grabbed your phone and made another group chat without adding Seonghwa on it, and for the next days you stopped sending him any messages. Not even the ‘good morning’ ones. He wanted you to leave you alone, and so you did.
His birthday was coming up, and you knew the boys were going to do a surprise party for him. You helped them with it, but you weren’t really planning to go.
A week before his birthday, he sent you a message. It was the first time he messaged you first, and that made you smile a little, opening it.
seonghwa: hey, y/n. can i come over?
y/n: i’m sorry, seonghwa. i’m at work.
seonghwa: can i come to pick you up, then?
y/n: i have a date, sorry. we can meet up later.
seonghwa: okay…
Days passed by and you got no other messages from him. And you didn’t show up for his birthday. He didn’t know why you were ignoring him like that, neither did he know why was he so upset about it, so he messaged you, again.
seonghwa: hey, can we talk?
y/n: sorry, seonghwa, i’m with yuto now.
seonghwa: who is yuto? isn’t it that one boy that works with you?
y/n: yeah
seonghwa: what are you doing with him?
y/n: i think this is none of your business
seonghwa: was he that one date you told me?
y/n: bye seonghwa, we’ll talk later
And this kept happening. He texted you asking if you could meet up, and you always answered him with “i’m with yuto now, sorry”, or “i already have plans with hongjoong and yunho”, or “san invited me to go out, sorry!” and the list goes on.
This annoyed Seonghwa. He missed you. He missed all of your messages, your rants, your cuddles, he missed your face. The last time you two saw each other was that one movie night, and it was two months ago.
Until one day he got tired of this and showed up at your door. You opened it, smiling at the thought of finally seeing your boyfriend again, but your smile dropped as you saw Seonghwa on your front door, looking at you emotionless.
“Can I help you?” you asked.
“Can we talk?” he said, and you could say he was a little tipsy because of how his voice sounded.
“Sure. Come in.” giving him space, you waited until he was inside and closed the door.
“What happened between us?” he asked, sitting on your couch. “Why aren’t you messaging me anymore? Did I do something wrong?”
You laughed in disbelief, looking at him.
“Seriously, Seonghwa?” you said and he looked very confuse, so you continued. “The last time we saw each other you treated me like shit and you almost made me got hurt by pushing me away from you. Not just that but, let me refresh your memory, you said to the boys that you don’t like me at all and that you wished I left you alone.” you were incredibly calm, and you weren’t even close to start crying. “So I did. I left you alone. I’m not going to make you waste your precious time with me anymore.”
“Y/n…”
“Leave, Seonghwa.” you said.
“Please let me…” he stood up and grabbed your wrist, looking at you. “I… I was dumb enough to think that I didn’t like you being around, but I did. More than I should… That’s why I kept pushing you away. I was scared. I was scared of my feelings and…”
“Stop right there.”
“I fell in love with you. I’m sorry for pushing you away, I just thought I was annoyed by your presence but later I noticed that I wasn’t. My heart… I missed you. Like crazy. Please, Y/n, let me do this right… Not as a friend anymore.”
The doorbell rang again, and you pulled your arm back, letting go of Seonghwa’s touch to open the door. Yuto came in, hugging you with a bright smile on his face and kissing you on the lips softly. You turned back to Seonghwa while your boyfriend back hugged you.
“I’m sorry, Seonghwa. You’re already late.”
Holiday Prompt
Idol: Chaeyoung (Twice)
Admin Kiwi
A/N: Hope this is something like you had in mind!
Tumblr media
“Are you ready to go?” Chaeyoung was gorgeous even dressed in her bulky jacket, standing there at your door with a giant smile on her face and her hand outstretched. Her smiles were contagious, and you found yourself smiling back as you took her hand and stepped outside to stand beside her.
The two of you were going on a date, but to where, you weren’t really sure. Chaeyoung had said it would be a secret, and she still hadn’t told you, even though she was basically vibrating with excitement on the way there. The only thing she’d told you was to dress warmly, and from that, you guess that you’d be outside. But doing what, you didn’t know.
“Want to guess what we’re doing?” She asked you after she’d parked her car in one of the downtown parking garages. Honestly, you had no idea.
“Ice skating, maybe?” You guessed, looking down at your warm clothes. She laughed and shook her head.
“Nope! I’m taking you to an outdoor market! They have a bunch of cool things and lots of yummy food. It’s really cool!” It did sound cool, and she looked so excited as she opened her door and got out that you couldn’t help but feel excited as well.
It was chilly outside, but it didn’t bother you much, because she stuck close to you with her hand in yours, guiding you towards the market. It was bigger than you’d thought it would be, for sure, and your eyes widened as you took in the expanse of tents and booths.
“They really do have everything, huh?” She giggled.
“They do! Come on, let’s go get something warm to drink while we walk around.” You let you lead the way, since you didn’t know where you were going, and soon enough the two of you ended up in line for coffee and hot chocolate. “My treat,” she said as she passed it to you, and you didn’t argue with her. You’d treat her to the next thing.
With warm drinks in hand, the two of you set off again. Everything looked interesting, and you found yourself walking slower to take everything in.
“Have you bought things here before?”
“Oh, yeah. They’re all super cool. There’s this one shop that sells things made with pure alpaca fur, and everything they have is super soft.” You raised your eyebrows, interested.
The shop she was talking about sat at the end of a row, and she tugged you over to look. She hadn’t been lying when she said the items were super soft. The socks that you picked up felt incredible, and you found yourself really wanting to buy some.
“Hey, (Y/N), look this way.” You turned to look at Chaeyoung, and she reached up to tug a hat down onto your head. Immediately, you felt warmer, and she stepped back, grinning. “You look cute!” You looked at yourself in the mirror, and you had to admit that you liked the way it looked. Especially since it was something she’d picked out for you.
“I’ll take this one,” you told the lady behind the counter as you gently took the hat off and put the socks back. After you’d paid and the hat was safely in a bag, Chaeyoung took your hand again.
“Do you want to get some food now? That’s the food tent.” You followed her gaze to see a huge tent with tables inside, and an amazing smell wafting out. Suddenly, you were hungry.
“Yeah, let’s go see what they have!”
Everything with Chaeyoung was fun, but you found yourself losing track of time as the two of you looked around at the food vendors and decided what exactly you wanted to eat. You had no idea how much time the two of you had spent shopping before, so when the two of you sat down and you finally glanced at the time on your phone, you realized that the two of you had already been there for a couple of hours.
“Wow, time really flies when you’re having fun,” you said, raising your eyebrows in surprise, and she giggled, reaching across to grab your hand.
“Doesn’t it? How do you like this place?”
“I love it. I feel like I could spend all day here.” At your words, she beamed, and you could see how happy she was in her eyes. Wow, you really loved her. “I’m having a great time today.”
“Hey-.”
“Chaeyoung, (Y/N), what a coincidence.” Nayeon’s voice sounded, and the two of you jumped, looking up to find the rest of the group surrounding the table. Jeongyeon and Jihyo gave the two of you an apologetic smile, and Mina looked like she didn’t really want to be there, but everyone else looked all too excited.
“Guys, what are you doing here?” Chaeyoung’s cheeks flushed as she turned towards them, obviously embarrassed by their appearance.
“We just wanted to see the shops too, right guys?” Sana said, looking all to happy to be crashing someone’s date.
“Right! Why did you never take us here, Chaeyoung?” Dahyun asked, and Chaeyoung looked a little bit like she wanted to sink into the floor. After the original shock wore off, you found yourself grinning. This was actually pretty funny.
“Why don’t you guys get some food too?” You said, changing the subject and picking up your plate. “It’s really good.” At the mention of food, Momo perked up.
“Hey, they have all kinds of different things here! Let’s go guys!” Nayeon looked like she wanted to stay behind and keep pestering Chaeyoung, but Jeongyeon grabbed her and dragged her off with the rest of the girls. Just as fast as the two of you had been swarmed, you were alone again, and Chaeyoung let out a little sigh of relief.
“Thanks (Y/N), sorry about them.”
“No, it’s okay. It’s kind of funny.” She gave you a little smile and reached across to gently take your hand, shaking her head. “What were you going to say before we were interrupted?” Her face flushed a little once again, and she bit her lip, shy.
“Oh. Well, I was going to say that I love you.” Despite the cold, warmth bloomed in your chest, and you let out a soft laugh, squeezing her hand. She was so cute, and you were so in love. And you didn’t care if the other girls heard you say it.
“I love you too.”
Week 9 (March 4 - 10)
Top of the Mornin’ to Ye!
Two blogs posts in two days! I’m really excited to write this one because I’ve had such a fun week. I can’t believe this past week marked half way through my semester here - in some ways it seems like forever since we first got here and in some ways it seems like time is flying by.
On Sunday, my friend Annie arrived in Berlin to spend a few days because she was on Spring Break. It was so much fun to show her around!! Unfortunately I had my internship on Monday, but she went on a day-trip and then we met up for dinner at my favorite Korean place :)
On Tuesday, I had the day off so we were able to see a bunch of stuff in Berlin. We started the day at the Ritter Sport museum. Ritter Sport is a German chocolate company and it’s truly amazing. The museum is really cool and you can make your own chocolate bar by picking out the flavor and ingredients. I made a dark chocolate bar with hazelnuts, dried cranberries, and sprinkles. It was yummy! They also sell every flavor at the store inside the museum, which is cool because there are so many.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Afterwards we went to the Berliner Dom. I went one of the first weeks we were here, but it was really cool to see it on a beautiful day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then, we went to this part of Berlin called Nikolai Quarter that looks more like a smaller German town. It was really nice because it’s a lot quieter than the busy Berlin streets.
Tumblr media
Next, we went to the DDR museum, which is about what life was like in East Germany/Berlin. It was very interactive and definitely a great way to have a better understanding of this time period. The museum featured a replica house that showed what each room, including the kitchen, study, and living room, could have looked like. I loved seeing all the old furniture and decor.
Tumblr media
For lunch, we went to another area of Berlin called Kurfürstendamm. It’s where the zoo is, so we went to this really cool market where you can see the monkeys from the zoo. We had currywurst, of course!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next, we went to KaDeWe, short for Kaufhaus des Westens. It used to be a really famous Berlin thing when department stores were the big, new thing, but it’s kind of like the Harrods in London or the Macy’s in NYC. We didn’t go to the original one, but the stores are all similar and I thought it would be a fun thing to see!
Tumblr media
For dinner that night, I took Annie to Mustafa’s, which is a döner stand. Döner is the German-Turkish version of a gyro or schwarma. Mustafa’s is apparently the best place in Berlin to get it and it’s right near my dorm. I hadn’t tried döner until that night because I knew I would fall in love and want to eat it for every meal (like the currywurst and Korean) and I was absolutely right. It’s incredible. Luckily, the line for this place is usually 10 people deep so I haven’t had the patience to get it again (yet.) Afterwards, we took her to a local place to get a German beer, so I think we hit all the Berlin/Germany highlights :)
Tumblr media
Edinburgh, Scotland, UK
This past weekend, my friends and I said we would go for a weekend trip to wherever was cheapest, and Scotland is where we ended up! I am so glad we got to go because it was great to see a whole different part of Europe and be somewhere English-speaking.
Our flight on Friday morning was very early, but we saw a beautiful sunset on the train ride to the airport that made up for it.
Tumblr media
We got a taxi from the airport and I had to take a picture of the steering wheel on the right side of the car. It was wild.
Tumblr media
Our airbnb was on the cutest little road in Edinburgh!
Tumblr media
That afternoon, we walked around Edinburgh and had lunch at a little pub. We were lucky and had clear weather almost the entire time we were there, which is pretty impressive given how much it rains there! I loved walking around an area that looked so different than the other places we’ve traveled to.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We also went to the Edinburgh History Museum, which was very interesting and a great way to gain a better understanding of the culture. Of course, there was a whole exhibit on Greyfriars Bobby which was this dog that would sleep on his owner’s grave - I’m unsure why the Scottish are so obsessed with that story but they have statues and pubs named after it.
Tumblr media
Later we walked around more and found this really cool park area that had an awesome viewpoint over the city and the surrounding hills.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For dinner, we went to a place that served “Scottish comfort food” called Mum’s. We got haggis as an appetizer so everyone could try it. This place didn’t serve it in the traditional way with the lamb stomach, but I was kind of grateful and thought it was delicious! For dinner, I got bangers and mash. When in the UK- right?! My picture of the haggis is a little blurry because I was in a rush to taste it :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Afterwards, we went on a Ghost Tour. It was so so much fun because our tour guide was incredible and Edinburgh definitely has a ghost-vibe. I personally didn’t see any ghosts but it was great to learn a little bit of Scotland’s more creepy history.
Tumblr media
Saturday morning we woke up early and went on a hike. It was really beautiful and so wonderful to see so much green, open space! We were so so lucky to have such a gorgeous day, too!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Afterwards, we walked around the Old Town a little more. We saw Victoria Street and a bagpiper on the street!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Afterwards, we went to the Edinburgh Castle. We didn’t go inside because it is expensive and to be honest we’ve now been to a lot of castles, but it was cool to see and the view was great!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We also went to a factory that showed how the famous Scottish tartan is made - it was really interesting and they had room after room of everything in tartan print you can think of.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then we walked around more. Edinburgh is a very walkable city and we kept wandering down different streets and finding more cool things.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We also stopped by a cafe and had some afternoon tea and shortbread - yummy!
Tumblr media
Afterwards, we actually went back to the castle to see the sunset and I’m so glad we did. It was definitely a highlight of the trip for me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That night, we went to another pub and I got fish and chips. I felt like I had to since we were in the UK. We had an early night, though, because our flight was very early the next morning.
I am so glad I got to visit Scotland because I’ve heard about it from my Dad and Grandpa. Didn’t make it to a golf course, but I had a wonderful time.
I hope you enjoy all the pictures and I’m thankfully now all caught up with my blog :) Miss you!!!
Tumblr media
^^evidence that Berlin can be sunny and pretty :) taken on the walk to my internship!
No one is probably going to see this lol, but just in case someone does, I’ll put this out there. I am by no means an expert or completely better, and what has worked for me so far may not work for you, but hopefully the few things I have to say is still helpful.
So, last year was by far the hardest to get through. From about Late April to probably mid-September I was at my lowest, often dealing with suicidal thoughts and ideations. I would also like to point out a few informational things: Am I clinically diagnosed with depression? No. Am I depressed? Yes, and I might also have social anxiety. Do I take medication? Yes. Do I have a psychiatrist? Yes. Do I go to therapy? Yes. Am I judgmental about anyone with mental illness? Absolutely not.
First and foremost, I encourage you to seek help and reach out. I know it is NOT AT ALL EASY, and it hurts that I say those stereotypical words because I know it’s easier said than done. But I care, so I encourage you to reach out in any means whether it be to a trusted human, doggo or pupper, teddy bear (I mean...your teddy will listen, not judge you, and give you hugs), crisis center, or hotline. If I’m being quite honest, it took me more than a year to reach out because I realized I was not okay. But the first and most important person I told, is one of the main reasons why I am still here. I could be all dramatic and be like “she saved my life” and that would not be a lie, but what’s more true is that she has provided me with a safe space emotionally and physically, support, encouragement, and resources. I’m sure it also helped that she works in the mental health field but hey, I am extremely lucky to have her in my life either way.
On some of the hardest most overwhelming days, her and her husband were kind enough to let me stay overnight with them. They also just let me hang out and watch Netflix when I really need to get away. I’ve never really had such a close deep friendship with anyone before them, but let me tell you, it feels good to be loved and cared for. They are like my new and improved family (I mean, they are a lot older than me too). I’ve known what it’s like to feel desperately alone and like no one cares, but there ARE people out there who do. I would say you should go out there and find them but ummm, it almost feels like those friends came to me hahaha. I guess “finding” in this context moreso means that if they aren’t a part of your present, they WILL be a part of your future.
Those also aren’t the only friends I’ve told. I happen to have a few friends irl and online *wow, I have friends?* and it took all the guts in my compromised digestive system to tell them. Just having people around me who know, won’t judge, and are there feels like an extra cushion. I can’t have only one other person carry my burdens, the load becomes lighter with more people. And obviously we’re not gonna have an infinite amount of people we trust enough to reveal such a seemingly dark part of our life with, but if you have more than one person, reach out. Take it one step at a time and you will eventually get there.
Even after telling the first person about my struggles, it took months to get further help. Eventually I reached out to the University’s Counseling Center—yes, I know I am lucky to have had all these resources available to me...for the low low cost of my tuition and fees. Ok but seriously though I really am lucky—and I met with a counselor for some amount of weeks who was not a good fit for me, and transitioned to group therapy. I can go more into detail some other time, but it has been helpful to have people I am accountable to and connect with.
This past September I was able to start antidepressants thanks to my friend who literally called in for me to make sure it would actually happen. Even still, I just started noticing that I’ve been improving and it’s taken me from August until now to feel marginally functional. Now that I say that I could slip back tomorrow but you know, that’s how it goes. Healing is NOT a linear positive function. And who is to say I won’t struggle with this for the rest of my life? It may be depressing (oh what a terrible pun) but that’s depression for ya. Some other things I started doing to help include occasional social media detoxes, writing letters, journals, or probably-extremely-bad poems, following and reading blogs from AFSP and TWLOHA, prioritizing sleep, trying to not stay in my room all day, being patient with myself, writing a list of things to live for, and practicing gratitude. The first few are pretty self-explanatory, but I found prioritizing sleep a good start to self-care. I might prioritize it a little too much sometimes lol but I need more sleep than the average person. If you’re depressed, then you probably do too. And on top of that, going outside and seeing the sun or clouds or whatever your most common weather is, is important. It forces me to try not to isolate myself and stay in my black hole of a room all day. Even on days where I don’t want to get out of bed, I somehow do because I’m apparently a pretty high-functioning person and/or my stomach makes me sometimes. That might not be the case for you but that’s okay because sometimes you just need to be patient with yourself. There are some days where leaving your bed is an accomplishment. And believe me when I say it IS an accomplishment. No one said staying alive is easy. Somehow my body maintains homeostasis minus serotonin and probably other hormones, but if you’re heart is beating, you’re alive. It might hurt to be aware of that fact, but I hope you can take it as a sign. A sign that there are things at work you can’t control, and these things are trying to tell you to stay alive. You are more than your thoughts, and your reality is more than the lies in your head. And I guess this kind of leads into reasons to be alive and gratitude. It probably sounds dumb in theory, but making a list of all the reasons to stay alive has reminded me of all the things I am so grateful to have. Personally, this list mostly involves people in my life...but hey these people are the best humans I know. Some of them have depression too and that doesn’t make them any less great. In fact, their stories give me hope which is incredibly important. Let me say that louder for the people in the back, HOPE IS IMPORTANT. Hopelessness feeds depression, and while sometimes you might be able to stumble upon something that gives you temporary hope, the real hope that sends out a life ring when you need it most has to be created. In other words you need to put in the effort to find a light that won’t fade away. But spoiler alert, that’s not easy either and I can’t tell you how or where to find that. For me, what helps is gratitude. It helps me be present in the moment, observe my surroundings, and notice that I have many things to be thankful for. Sometimes it’s the sun on a cold day, sometimes the calm snow at night, yummy food in my dorm, or small moments of seeing someone being kind to someone else. When you are grateful the small things, they really start to matter. It’s like saving pennies, it adds up. For me, seeing the seasons change can be quite beautiful, so I should stay alive to see my own seasons change too. The weather might not always be desirable, but if you look in the right direction, you might see a rainbow—or even a double rainbow all the way across the sky. So I hope you decide to stay, to live another day, and find something worth living for. For my last thought which is kind of unrelated but I still wanna put it here...You might not be like me and like simplicity and silence, but sometimes I get the most fulfilling feelings when no one is around, it’s quiet, and I just listen ;) .
Making Memories in Montreal
Happy December, let’s not pretend we love the snow and hurry and get to April 😉 k thanks. Living in Brooklyn, NY it definitely gets bitter cold, but I suddenly felt like I was from the tropics after our visit to Montreal and hearing from some of the locals about what it really feels like when winter arrives up there. We managed to escape at the beginning of November (and witnessed their first snowfall of the season), I’m also shocked we actually pulled this off...without the children! 🤯 This was our first “parents only” getaway in exactly 1 year, and last time I was pregnant so it doesn’t count right?  We got all hands on deck, my parents, my in-laws and nanny came to the rescue for us to leave for close to 72 hours...my god! Who does pick up, drop off, where do they sleep, home or at the grandparents, do we split them up, and the list goes on and on. I feel compelled to share how ahhhmazing and challenging it is to get away for a few days without the kids. Love you boys but mama and Tati (dad in Yiddish) needed some alone time.
We picked Montréal, because Europe was too far for a long weekend and we wanted a place that felt like we traveled a million miles away without the jetlag. I loved the city! It’s a melting pot of culture, art and food. Do you love to eat? Oh great me too, they have nearly as many restaurants as NYC per square capita, and not gonna lie, it’s overwhelming...I still stay up at night wondering if we made the best restaurant choices, I’ll just never know 😂
Tumblr media
I’ll split it up by neighborhood:
Downtown
We stayed at the Four Seasons hotel, its a relatively brand new hotel and has an indoor pool (which was a must for us, even though we only used it once, wop wop) and a beautiful spa which obviously any mom traveling without her kids would take complete advantage of 💆🏼‍♀️ Their in-house restaurant is Marcus, by the incredible Marcus Samuelsson (if you’re like me and have no idea who this is, it’s fine, I guess we’ve been living under the same rock...neighbor 😉) Dave knew about this apparent rockstar chef and told me that this is his first ever Canadian restaurant...I would highly suggest making reservations a few days in advance (at least), it gets pretty packed. We enjoyed room service one morning because #sleep and had breakfast in the hotel the other two days which was quiet delicious and full of fresh squeezed juice options 😋
Tumblr media
Our hotel was located down the block from Boulevard de Maisonneuve which has tons of shops, restaurants and one of the entrances to the underground mall. It’s bustling and I was really happy with our choice of neighborhood. I was on the fence because Old Montreal has a lot to offer as well, but it was a short Uber ride over.
Old Montreal
If you get a warm and fuzzy feeling when you see cobblestones then this is the place for you! This is a popular place for many tourists, it’s adorable, and I see what the hype is all about; it has the Old Port, has a charming little tree lined walking road along the water, The Basilique Notre-Dame which is a big attraction and tons of cobblestone streets surrounded with French inspired architecture, hotels, restaurants, cafes, art galleries, shops, I mean you get the picture right? It’s pretty fabulous. I must say though, at times I did feel a bit like a tourist, because certain shops and restaurants we passed seemed how should I say this...inauthentic. I’ve been around Times Square enough to know when I’m in a tourist trap, which I don’t particularly enjoy when traveling or ever lol ... But we did stumble across a few incredible art galleries and a delicious brunch spot called Olive and Gourmando, yummy food and fun atmosphere!
Tumblr media
Mile End
We took a great tour in this neighborhood that so much reminded me of parts of Williamsburg, Bushwick and Park Slope. @Localmontrealtours did a great job taking us around and giving our palates a unique experience of flavors. One of my favorite stops was at the St. Viateur Bagel (shocker right, a NY girl excited about bagels) this place has been around forever and is a true staple in Montreal. A few other noteworthy spots were Drogheria Fine, known for their incredible tomato sauce that covers perfectly delicious gnocchi served in a Chinese take out container; funky and indulgent. Additionally, Boucherie Lawrence, which serves local meats and cheeses amongst other things such as various jams and honeys. Dave talked me out of buying about 10 jars of different delightful items in order to avoid shlepping them back to NYC...I’ll be placing an online order soon 🙌🏼
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Le Plateau
This is technically a broader neighborhood that consists of several sub neighborhoods; Mile End being one of them, so I would suggest checking it out as well. We specifically made our way there to check out the Jewish Museum and what is considered the area with the greatest Jewish presence and history. We weren’t able to make it on their tour, which I’m secretly pretty bummed about but we did get to wander around the area. It’s a touch of hip, grunge and art. What I loved most is that you feel like you’re a local, no big hotels or tourist traps, you’ll see homes, grocery stores, cafes, etc...you’ll be submerged with the people who live there.
A great restaurant located in Le Plateau that my girl @arielloves recommended from her visit to Montreal was Au Pied de Cochon, they are known for their foie gras which comes in all different forms and styles. Dave liked the “naked” one and I was obsessed with the “nigiris”. We also decided to try the POUTINE here! Ok so if you don’t know what Poutine is, it’s the traditional comfort food of Montréal...French fries with gravy sauce on top and some places get funky and add other toppings...yes it was yummy, but one time was enough for us, it’s extremely heavy and made me want to jog home, but hey worth a try and to each their own.
Tumblr media
Speaking of jogging, I usually make it a priority to check out some gyms or outdoor fitness areas on all my trips, but full disclaimer this did NOT happen this time 🤷‍♀️ I won’t even try to dig up an excuse, just was focused on sleep before and after our excursions haha #priorities. Not gonna beat myself up about it (even though TBH I started to a few times) but I’ll be on it again next time 💪🏽
Extras
One of our mornings we decided to be outdoorsy and “hike up” Mont Royal aka realizing how cold it was we took an Uber up and a bus down 🤷‍♀️ whatevs, we did spend some time up there breathing the crisp air and enjoying the view. A cute place to check out if you’re into “look out point” type of stuff.
We also went to a hockey game duhhh! We watched the Montreal Canadians play the LA Kings. It was a real cultural experience, something that Dave and I love participating in whenever we travel anywhere. If you’re like us and you like to just do things and go to places that make you feel like you’re one of the locals I would highly recommend going to see a hockey game when visiting, its like going to see a Yankees game in NYC, authentic and exciting 🏒
The Low Down
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All in all, we had fun, but I do want to touch upon something that is real and deserves a moment just like all the other mentions. Shit’s not perfect! Dave and I have somewhat of a different view on how we should “plan” our trips. I typically like to have an agenda ready to roll and he likes to wing it. We discovered this about ourselves a few years ago, yet perhaps since we didn’t go away alone for a while we kind of forgot how to handle it. As a couple it’s not always unicorns and lattes (well there are usually lattes involved with us 😉) but we get to make it work because that’s what we signed up for! After a day of on and off arguing, we decided that moving forward I need to have my “planned activity” happen first and then I’ll be much more willing to hang loose and flow, not freaking out that we don’t have a specific destination (this only took us 6+ years to establish #couplegoals 🤣). I’ll be keeping you posted on how that plays out for our next trip! I heard something the other day when listening to a clip from @garyvee, he said we are all being fake and how when we get back from a vacation we tell everyone that we had a great time (usually regardless of what kind of time we actually had). I found that to be insanely insightful and it struck a chord with me. I believe it’s important to acknowledge both the great times and the times of struggle. They are equally important to process and learn from. I hope you enjoyed my recap and found it helpful for your future trip. I would love to hear from you and get some of your feedback! Till next time fam; Stay living on those skinny branches!
@wbhaes said: 새길 추가해 소피 누나! First of All, I just want to thank you for gracing us with your encouraging and beautiful words that I know truly inspires me to become a better person. I have noticed lately you are hardly around. I do hope that on you're side you are doing well and resting because I think everyone of us is in need of that. I just want to commend you for being such a strong willed woman. I may not always be the first to say hello to you or that I shy away most of the time but I do notice a lot, I hope you are well and that for the upcoming days and for the whole year you remember that we are here for you as your friends and even just supporters of what you do. Noona, I'm a big fan of you and I hope you never forget that. I love you for who you are and i hope that as you look back at your young self you never forget the kindness you've shown others and how brave you are. I hope in the future we become more closer, I'll always be the fan of yours. Happy birthday and god bless you.
@hxnryz said: Dear Sophie, truthfully I have no idea how long we've been friends now — it must be over a year though, that I am sure of. All I remember is how I made fun of you for telling me about the way you cut your pizza. (Actually I still make fun of it, let's be real.) What I can say though is that you're someone whose friendship I treasure a lot, simply for the fact that you 1) never hesitate to show your support to me as well as all your other friends, and 2) throughout the entire time we've known each other you always made sure not to lose contact with me, even if we're both really slow with our replies sometimes. I'm very happy about that, and very grateful. Please never change that! It's very admirable. However, since it is your birthday today I wish you the best one ever — make sure to use a sword to cut your birthday cake with, just like your pizza. And spare me a piece if you can! ;) Happy birthday! — Love, Henry
@kjaemn said: To the one and only fly girl: happy brithday to you! happy birthday beautiful! on this day, i hope you get everything you wished for and more! as you go forward, i hope you get to spend many, many years with the ones you love and celebrate more days like this.
@imyovna said: First of all, happy birthday! I know you have been looking forward to that day, obviously, so you better use it well and enjoy your time with your friends, family, and of course the person who owns your heart. This day is all about you, and added to the presents you will, of course, be receiving, I hope that you also realize once more what a great person you are. You are warm, kind, funny, dorky, and most of all, loving. I told you that I haven't met someone quite like you yet before, and I mean it. Even though you get frustrated lately because it's not always easy to deal with people, you stay true to who you are and that makes you incredibly special. You have also shown this all to me, making me smile more often than not and making me feel good, but also showing me your vulnerable sides. Thank you, thank you for putting your trust in me and showing me how wonderful you are. But enough about that, I don't want you to waste your precious day reading my ramblings.^^ I love you, don't forget that! And once again, happy birthday, may the following year be filled with love, happiness, and health for you.
@pxkasher said:  So, first of all. Merry Christmas! I hope you enjoy your day- Pfft! I'm kidding, happy happy birthday! So we've known each other for awhile now and we've gone through a lot, like super duper a lot. Ups and downs, lefts and rights, diagonal and uh whatever direction possible. We might have both been busy with our lives right now and barely talk.. and you know how horrible I am when it comes to starting a conversation, but you know that I'm always here even if I accidentally leave you on read or take a century to respond, I will get to it, eventually and do know that you will always have a special place in my heart. Enjoy your day and good luck with whatever you have ahead of you. You'll do well, I know it. Happy birthday again! You deserve a wonderful day.
@ahyn said:  happy birthday sophie!! you're the biggest and most positive ray of sunshine i've ever had the pleasure of meeting, and i'm so glad we met before i got my job at 2K! it made me a lot less nervous to enter this unfamiliar place knowing i had your friendly face around. you're truly such a genuinely warm and nice person - which is a rare occurence these days - and i find that anyone that's had the chance to meet you has been blessed. how lucky your fans must be! a true angel on earth. i know we're not super duper close (and i think that's my fault for being awful at keeping conversation), but you always put a smile on my face whenever we talk and it always warms my heart when you say positive things about henry and i. i hope you have the most wonderful birthday ever (you deserve it) and eat lots and lots of yummy food! i also wish the best for mellow in the future. - ahyeon
@jooism said: Today is the day! Yes! Your birthday is here once again. Just wanted to take the time out to let you know a few things, things you probably already know. I'm not the best with my words but I hope the following will be enough for you to understand. It's seen several months since we've known each other. We actually met around this time last year, yet we only spoke a few times. But our second meeting when you randomly approached, I was genuinely shocked but excited to give a friendship with another shot. You are truly a blessing in my life. You helped me out in many ways that you don't know. You're someone I could rely on with some problems I have.  You never made me feel like a burden and accepted me weather I was at my lowest point or highest. Never failing to put a smile on my face. Never a dull moment that goes by, talking to you just come naturally and forced. I truly love you, you're such an amazing person. I enjoy learning new things about you, makes me happy that we are growing closer day by day. I appreciate the things you do for me, Sophie. I hope you know that I love you dearly. Have a wonderful day sunshine! Eat lots of birthday cake for me since sweets hurt my stomach! ~ Joo @joenjnvg said: dear sophie noona ( mother ) so the time has come where you’ve grown one year older, getting closer on being an adult  ---  i know that you are now but  …  you will forever be the cute noona in my heart. I am hoping you’ve received lots of loving, lovely presents and are spending time with the most important people in your life; I’ll also be granting you with a present, but I’ll give you that personally. you’ve been a great impact on my life, we’ve laughed, cried and argued together. but, in the end you’re one of my oldest friends and I hold you so near, forever thinking whether you’re doing good or not, because to me you deserve happiness and to feel loved, no matter insecurities or jealous people who want to make you feel miserable (fuckthemok). whenever you’re needing a smile or cheering up, I’ll forever be my usual silly goose and bring you to laughter, or at least give my best attempt. Happy birthday and remember that I love you lots, noona! Lots of love from the one and only, jeongguk.
Hiking in the rainforest, hiking in the desert
We started the morning with a hike up Amber mountain. Since it’s a reasonable climb up the hill in the truck, our guides seem to know many of the locals so they would hop onto the back and hold on for dear life as we drove up. The park is a rainforest so it was wet, foggy and rainy but still beautiful. It was hard to capture the beauty in photos. We got to visit a waterfall and a lake created by a crater. The park isn’t busy with visitors so it was incredibly peaceful. You can hear birds calling and the wind makes the most incredible noise as it passes through the leafs on the trees.
Sometimes, while traveling, you have these pauses, reflective moments, when you come to realize exactly where in the world you are. You think to yourself that you’re standing in front of a crater lake surrounded by fog, in a rainforest, up a mountain, in Madagascar, an island off the coast of Africa. You’re approximately 10,000 km from home and in an entirely different world. It’s a moment of gratitude and appreciation for being able to experience this moment, in this place.
I digress - after climbing up the mountain on a fairly defined road / path, we had to go back down but our guide took us on a shortcut. It was through the dense woods and required more balance and adept use of trees as support. Laura fell 4 times and I think all of us, her included, are surprised that it was that few. A little while later, Laura noticed a leech on my neck that must have got be in the thick brush. Kind of gross.
Due to the rain, most animals tend to hide so not a lot of wildlife spotting but it was such a calming way to start the day.
We then headed back into town to the airport. We were both very hopeful to have our luggage situation sorted and thankfully it was! We arrived, went to the luggage counter and could see the pile of bags behind it, including ours. We even got compensation from the airline for our troubles. It added a bit of time to back track, but well worth it. We’re very happy it all worked out. After our wet hike, we were happy to be able to change.
Along our drive, we stopped for lunch at a covered patio in a small village. We enjoyed some food beyond heading to our next stop. Red Tsingy is a natural geological formation caused by algae reacting with water, sun and sand stone. It creates these beautiful, abstract and organic looking columns in the rock. They seem to grow right out of the earth. We wandered through the formations and finished at this incredible vista of the valley opening up toward the ocean and mountains.
We then set of for a longer drive of about three hours to our next hotel. We stopped in on of the villages for some supplies so we got to experience one of the open air markets. The produce all looks so green and fresh here. The locals did notice us walking around and the kids certainly stare, but everyone is friendly and smiles or waves.
The landscapes of Madagascar are incredible. It’s a very diverse ecology with dense rainforest, open plains, lush fields and forests and dry desert like conditions. Driving for several hours really gave you this amazing impression of the size and diversity of the place. Amazing to think we started the day soaked from a rain forest and just a few hours later were soaked from sweat in the desert Tsingy!
We passed through many villages were the children would always wave and yell either hello, bonjour or salut.
We arrived at our hotel which is a set of small bungalows spread throughout a lightly wooded forest. There’s a lovely pool and open are restaurant nestled in the trees and rocks. I got to try Zebu, the horned cow looking animals with a distinct hump over their shoulder served stewed with some roasted potatoes. Very yummy. Laura’s options have been more limited but enjoyed a vegetarian noodle soup and some plain pasta with butter.
You will discover A good number of stores inside of kerala where you won't need to toil absent in an extended queue. Look at with Manoj. At the end of our push, alongside a key street is a little village exactly where the nearby tea-pickers reside. You can capture a glimpse of this village within the balcony of the cottage. 8 miles north of Tiverton, is the village of Bampton. Home to a great couple of B&B’s, pubs and a well known game butchers, it is perfectly situated for access to Exmoor National Park which is only a further 4 miles away.
For a fairly small town, there are approximately 8 hostelries where you can enjoy a night away, one of which is The Ginger Peanut.
The Ginger Peanut, which is a restaurant with rooms, is headed up by Peter Mundy who has over 20 years experience as a professional chef. As well as feeding people in Bampton, he also owns and runs Peter Mundy Catering Ltd which he originally established in the Midlands in 2006 but have since been in the South West for the past 8 years.
I was delighted to have been invited along for dinner, bed and breakfast to see what they have on offer. I happened to have a day off on the Friday with my son, so chose to take him along with me for a mummy and son dinner and sleepover.
It is definitely a restaurant with rooms; the bar heads up the ground floor area, with a two dining areas split slightly by a fire place. With slightly feminine but homely tartan fabrics, it gives a great ambience and style to the downstairs.
We were shown to our room which was named Grouse; all 5 rooms are named after a different game animal – grouse, quail, hare, rabbit and duck, . There weren’t any refreshment facilities in the room, but in fact a shared area in the hallway with a fridge, nespresso machine, crisps, teas and so on. I quite liked this actually.
The room was petite but perfectly formed. A lovely cozy looking bed, comfy chair, dressing table and a really great en suite shower room. If fact, both my son and I commented the shower was like being in a cave or waterfall, with the very tall and high quality stone tiling and tall shower surround.
After settling in it was dinner time! There is the main menu with a couple of specials up on the board. Unfortunately they were on the cusp of a new menu and some of the items our menu werent available which I found a bit of a shame. nonetheles there were other tasty items to choose from. We started our evening off with the hand picked crab thermidor, tomato dressing and salad. Beautiful sweet crab with a savoury crunchy topping and a full flavoured dressing of intense tomato. They kindly produced a slightly edited version for my son, who wolfed down the sweet meat.
  My main of scallops and belly pork duo was accompanied with toasted sesame seeds, summer vegetable broth, and sautéed potatoes. The scallops and the pork were delicious; the pork meat was tender with an incredibly crisp skin but sadly the remainder of the dish was a little blander than I would have hoped. It just needed a little bit more seasoning on the potatoes and more flavour in the broth and perhaps something a piquant to lift it all up. I asked for some more sauce or even some gravy, but was served more plain broth.
My son is a meat fiend, and opted for the 10oz 28 day matured Himalayan salt aged rib eye steak with twice cooked chips. His steak was cooked as he had requested, and you could see it had been griddled. It was very tasty and he was one happy guy.
Dessert was set as soon as I read ‘salted caramel’ – I chose the salted caramel pannacotta, chocolate fudge, coffee creme anglaise. A wonderfully wobbly pannacotta, with the right firm yet creamy consistency. I’m a huge coffee lover too, so I wish they had put more creme anglaise on, or perhaps served extra in a little pot on the side – but maybe that’s just me being greedy.
It was an incredibly warm evening, and there was nothing they could do about that from a weather point of view, but perhaps it’s worth investing in some sort of air con in the dining room. On a positive, I noted how incredibly comfortable and functional the dining chairs were, not to mention the lovely décor.
Dinner complete, I grabbed a cooling gin and tonic from their vast South West selection and we headed up to bed. The room was equipped with a small fan which was absolutely essential that evening due to the very hot weather. We had an excellent nights sleep; the bed was very comfy, we weren’t affected by any exterior noise if there was any, and the blinds and curtains did their job.
Breakfast is something worth clarifying if you are staying as the website states: Some guests prefer not to have breakfast, but for those that love breakfast – you can have a continental or a full Devon cooked breakfast either in the restaurant when open (wed-sun mornings or by special arrangement at other times) or other local cafés any day, both at an additional cost.
We opted for the Devon cooked breakfast, and it was very tasty with great local and flavoursome ingredients. Sadly the underseasoned new potatoes made an appearance again, but everything else was faultless.
All in all, a relaxing and very comfortable night away with good food, although a few tweaks here and there could really push the experience to top notch. After checking out we proceeded to burn off our yummy breakfast with a walk along the gorgeous Tiverton canal nearby.
Welcome to my last post of my three part Europe series! Make sure you’ve checked out PARIS and PORTUGAL. On the last part of the trip we visited Barcelona for two days and stayed in Hotel Novotel in Barcelona City. This was probably the best hotel we stayed in the entire two weeks as it was next to a lively plaza with food and shopping.  The hotel had a breakfast buffet included in the mornings which was nice and it had a pool on the top floor with a gorgeous view of the city. Today I am going to share with you my 8 favourite things that we saw/did in Barcelona.
8. TEPPAN-YA
Teppan-ya was a unique Japanese tapas restaurant that we went to on our first night. It was within walking distance of our hotel located on Carrer de Lepant, 347, 08025 Barcelona, Spain. If you are in need of a cool place to eat dinner this is definitely it! They served Japanese tapas that were cooked right in front of you, while you got to wear a kimono which was such a fun experience. The desserts there were so good as well.
7. PARK GUËLL
To get to Park Guëll we took a hop on hop off bus. Park Guëll has so many stunning view points of Barcelona. You can see all of the key tourist attractions from different view points and the walk through the park is a nice way to spend the morning. In so many of the corners you can hear different people playing their music live – which contributes to the lively atmosphere of the park. If you are in need of a snack, lunch or a treat, walk down a street near the park and you can find some cool food places or some really yummy ice cream places – for example my sister found these macaroon ice cream sandwiches which looked delicious.
6. TIBIDABO
Tibidabo is an adventure because to get there you have to take a bus up the mountain and then another gondola which means that you are really on top of the city – we also had to ride the hop and hop off bus to get to the first bus so it was A LOT. Because of what it takes to get there you know that you are going to get an incredible panoramic view that is definitely worth it. The castle is beautiful as well. When we were at the top of the mountain we experienced some tropical rain I would say, as it lasted about 15 minutes – which made it even more of an adventure.
5. CERVECERIA CATALANA
Cerveceria Catalana is a tapas restaurant located on Carrer de Mallorca, 236, 08008 Barcelona, Spain. Its a few blocks down from las Ramblas and a nice walk so when visiting the famous street make sure to go a few blocks down to this restaurant and try a few tapas. Also make sure you try some of the desserts – everything is so good!
4. LA RAMBLA – MERCAT DE LA BOQUERIE
La rambla was a really lively street with so many shops and alleys going into food places. This is a must see in Barcelona FOR SURE! In the market you can buy so many different treats, drinks and snacks and you can also sit and have lunch at any of the tapas places surrounding the market. We did all of these things; tried some juices, fudge squares and of course had lunch at at a store surrounding the market called Karaköy.
3. THE PIER
The pier is towards the end of La Rambla and it is another must see in Barcelona. You can walk around the pier and enjoy the water and palm trees, there is even a beach. The pier was one of my favourite parts of Barcelona as it was super relaxing and beautiful. Make sure you grab a slushy or a lemonade from one of the street vendors and walk along the pier for at least half an hour during your stay between all of the sight seeing fun.
2. PARC DE MONTJUIC AT NIGHT
This parc is home to the magic water fountain of Montjuic and every night it puts on a show with lights and music. It is such a nice and relaxing lively show and was probably one of the biggest highlights of my entire trip. We took a hop on hop off bus here and cabified back to our hotel as there is no uber in Barcelona. This is a definite MUST SEE in Barcelona, you cannot miss it as it is fun and free! The night show starts at 9:30 but click here to see the times for the months that you are there.
1. SAGRADA FAMILLIA
This was the HIGHLIGHT of Barcelona for sure and the first tourist attraction that we decided to check out. The Sagrada Famillia was designed by architect Gaudí and has been in construction since 1882, it is anticipated that the church will be finished in 2026 so only 8 years from today. We actually walked from our hotel to this church and it wasn’t that far at all. Make sure when you are there you check it out from all angles as there is so much detail everywhere that you do not want to miss.  This church was so beautiful and I absolutely loved how bright it was inside because it made the atmosphere very peaceful. The headset tour is a must to learn all about the intricate details put into the church. You can also visit a museum inside the church so definitely do not miss out on that. If you have time make sure to check out Gaudí’s house: Passeig de Gràcia. We visited his house from the outside but if you would like to you can also head inside the now turned exhibition.
