is the VERY first shot of season 2 episode 1 (and/or the first time we see Stede)

imagine it. the sound of waves crashing on the rocks. Stede looks at the bottle, music slowly fades in. he lifts his gaze, looks out over the ocean. wind blowing in his hair and his billowing shirt. he tosses the bottle as far as he can. we see it bob along on the waves. he nods to himself, has that same smile as when he rows out to find Ed at the end of season 1. perhaps he whispers something like "I'm coming back, Edward"

then he goes back to the crew and they ask him where he's been and he proceeds to get absolutely ROASTED for using bottle messaging like

"oh my god no one does that in real life"

"you threw trash in the ocean, congrats"

"that's it, we're doomed"

So... listen. I'm almost out of my 30s. Really, genuinely almost out of my 30s. I am standing at the threshold of middle age, getting ready to knock on the fucking door. I self-label as queer. I'm masculine-leaning nonbinary of some variety or another. I am, as I generally put it, Extremely Divorced.

(I might have also said "MEGA-Divorced" at one point or another. Probably multiple points. Including last Friday.)

Shows like GO and OFMD feel so resonant and important for me because I'm objectively and unavoidably getting older and I need to see older queer folks developing relationships that are actually deep and good for them, even if they're also messy and imperfect and interrupted. You've got middle-aged men and man-shaped people(?) trying to figure their shit out and be together, and absolutely fucking it up along the way but in a way that's beautiful and genuine and ultimately survivable.

It makes people like me think that maybe we've still got time to get it right, actually. And I have to imagine that there are other people in the "older set" of the fandom(s) who feel like this as well.

i Do Not Trust people who make Mary the bad guy in their stories when the show went out of its way to specifically show us how she was suffering just as much as stede was in their marriage and that shes, yknow, a good person

Hey everyone! this is where the zebra is currently with the design.

It has knee braces!! I will most probably be drawing the zebra usually with them on, but it’s no requirement, for example if anyone else wants to draw the zebra :-]. I always like to make sure an animal design has official colors underneath any clothing and accessory anyway. I think this will be final! thank you everyone for your feedback!

As a reminder, aside from why the zebra was requested for this flag, this is also just a zebra with the disability pride flag on it. It’s just a deisgn to fit the flag, with input from other disabled people in our community. It doesn’t mean other animals can’t have designs with these colors, too! I don’t mean this design to be the only mascot for all disabled people. It’s just a silly series i do of pride animals, and at the time, during disability pride month, I wanted to see what everyone wanted me to start off with for this flag!

the goal with my pride animals is to take requests and make people feel happy and seen.. that’s all <:-)

we talk a lot about how current kids, teenagers, and parents never learned internet safety in this age of social media, but i think we also gotta be honest with ourselves that most of us, adults on the internet who participate in fandom, never really learned how to engage with young people without setting them up for disaster.

might be weird to say it like this, but it's important to leave people how you met them or better. like hiking or going to a nature reserve. if you are regularly talking to people on the internet, especially teenagers, you need to consider whether your behavior with them is how another, shittier person would take advantage of them, because you have no real way of protecting them if that happens. like if you're going into discords and saying 'hey i'm mom! let me help you with your homework and irl issues. also please feel free to vent to me if you have any mental health issues or problems at home" you have to understand that the next person who says that to them may be leaving out the end of their plan; "that would make you easier to abuse."

sometimes you have to say "you seem fun and have a lot of great ideas but you are also 15, so if you wanna talk fandom, here are the boundaries we're going to follow, because these are the boundaries other adults should be following with you." or just refuse to talk to kids.

you decide what your responsibility, is but what you can't do is build an illegal fire pit on the hiking trail, if you catch my drift.

#the last post i reblogged reminded me of my longstanding vendetta against fandom parents #and while i've held this opinion for years i think i can finally verbalize it in a way that makes sense? #dont get people used to red flags!!!! do not be the reason someone things red flags are normal!!! #this is not to say you can never be friends intergenerationally. just that like... #a lot of friendships i was in as a kid were like lightening. fast and strong and over quickly #and what i learned was that it was fine to progress to very personal details quickly. #dont be lightening. be a hiker. keep a reasonable speed and dont be afraid to say 'you're walking very quickly on an unknown path. slow dow #also just. to be clear. i dont think this is a personal failing i see this as a consequence of all of US having INSANE relationships too #like many of us are still struggling to figure out boundaries with IRL people after that. #and trying to do right by the young people we see in the same shoes now is a daunting and confusing task with which we can only do our best
