How to be More Agentic

Ask for things. Ask for things that feel unreasonable, to make sure your intuitions about what’s reasonable are accurate (of course, try not to be a jerk in the process). If you’re only asking for things you get, you’re not aiming high enough.

(We have a saying in Finnish, roughly "darers will dare", with a connotation that well someone's gotta, or else things will not get done… "Daring" is a relatively general pro-agency sentiment but the "darer" part is important also I think; once you have a thought like "oh yeah I'm an asker I will sometimes ask for stuff" about yourself, that already makes it easier to ask, even if you still feel skittlish about rejection or similar)

It’s hard to overstate how overpowered [seeking feedback] is. If you aren’t trying to get real feedback from people who know you, you’re cooking without tasting. This is, like, the lowest hanging fruit for self-improvement, but few people really try to pick it.

(Note to self yeah, I think I can function decently with relatively little social contacts but it's felt for a long time that I am nerfed by not having good sounding boards for talking ideas about my life over with)

Most subject matter is learnable, even stuff that seems really hard. But beyond that, many (most?) traits that people treat as fixed are actually quite malleable if you (1) believe they are and (2) put the same kind of work into learning them as you would anything else. As you might gather, I think agency itself is a good example (…) Many other supposedly fixed traits can likewise be altered. Some other things you can learn: confidence, charisma, warmth, tranquility, optimism. Someone recently asked me how one might go about learning charisma, and the answer was really boring: by reading a few books, watching many hours of charismatic people interacting with others, and adopting a few of their habits. This is surely a plan of action most people could come up with if they didn’t have the notion that charisma is innate lodged in their heads.

(A.k.a. "growth mindset", and crucially yes!, it is itself learnable, learn some of that first of all and it will help you with many many things)

Burnout is the ultimate agency-killer. This is so true that I’ve learned to identify a reduction in agency as one of the first signs of burnout, one that shows up even before I consciously realize what’s happening. A switch flips and I start looking for ways to rule out ideas and actions, to conclude they won’t work or aren’t necessary, rather than chasing better versions. It took me almost 40 years to learn it, because my instinct is to think more hours mean more productivity as long as you’re really trying to be productive -- that’s just multiplication, right? YorkshireExPat With someone such as Dennis Nilsen, there is quite a lot of material that’s been written about him. There’s video evidence of him. So you immerse yourself as much you can, then join a line between that and the version of the character that’s in the script, because, ultimately, that’s the version you have to portray. One thing we were very careful to do on Des was to not make it from his point of view. I don’t think you can ask an audience to sympathise or understand someone like Nilsen. It’s the story of how he got away with all these things, then was caught. Hopefully the audience is left thinking: how can someone who is just another member of the human race be committing these extraordinary acts and the rest of us not notice or understand?

I was going to comment on your last post, but I had too many words. So, behold! Here are my words!

This is the Astarion/Tav I've been waiting to see. An after game fic where they have to build up from what was started in the game, where they are still working through all the feelings from that traumatic life changing event they all went through. I love this angle of the friendship route, because I too think that he needs friendship and not someone putting any demands on his body and just be there for him. Buuuuut I also see his need to make his own choices and that he may want intimacy, even sexual intimacy, at his own pace. Hell, he obviously wants cuddles and companionship. And the thought of depriving him of that makes me sad. Like big sad.

Also, I want to mention something specific that I feel you are doing so well with Astarion's voice. And it's the ability to turn off his charismatic facade wording he uses and talk in a more comfortable/vulnerable 'him' way, but without making him sound weird. Sometimes, when authors do this, they lose his charm and he doesn't sound like himself anymore. He would still be sly and charismatic and impatient, but not trying so hard as we see him most of the time with his 'honeyed' words. I like how you voice him so much. Is this really first fic you've written? Because I'm floored by your voices and pacing and sexual tension? It's all so good!

Isn't it wonderful how you can just explore the want vs need dilemma with Astarion? It's a common theme throughout his journey with Tav. What he wanted never mattered, and he often mixes what he wants with what he needs, which I find to be very realistic. It happens quite often in real life, too. Sometimes, what we want is not what we need and vice versa. Also, the scars of his trauma are still very much present and since they remained friends, he never really got to heal in terms of intimacy, so it's still very easy for him to slip into that mask of using sweet words and physical contact to establish intimacy. It's all he's ever known, after all.

Oh, that is such a specific and wonderful praise! Voicing Astarion is a challenge, and it's really up to each person to try to write him in a believable way. I am trying my best, but I still feel insecure at times 🥺💔 so thank you so much for saying these reassuring words. I went to tesco a week or 2 ago and I was buying an energy drink and she came over to check my ID (baby face tings). And I don’t remember what I said but I said something and it made her laugh and then she touched my upper arm (thanking genetics and the gym for blessing me with nice arms🙏). Cue my brain blanking and it just turning to white noise. We talked a bit more as I pulled my card out to pay and then I left…

And then a couple days later I go back and I see her again, and she sees me. So I wave and give her a smile… AND THEN SHE WINKS AT ME *gay panic*.

AND THEN TODAY. I GO TO TESCO. TO GET SNACKS. AND SHES THERE. AND SHE WAS RESTOCKING SHELVES OR SOMETHING I DUNNO I WAS BUSY LOOKING AT HER BECAUSE WOW SHES PRETTY. But she saw me and said hi and I was like ‘…let’s go try and make conversation’, so I walk over and say say hi and ask how she is. She says she’s been good but that she hadn’t seen me for a while (it had been like a week but okay. I guess that says how often I go to tesco…). So I’m like… feeling confident today, so I say something cheesy like ‘you been missing me or something?’ And added a wink in there because SHE DID IT FIRST AND ITS PAYBACK. AND SHE SAID “maybe a little” AND WINKED AT ME AGAIN. And then we have a bit of back and forth banter (flirty????) and we continue to talk as she does her thing in the aisles.

WE TALKED. LIKE PROPER TALKED. WE TALKED FOR LIKE 15 MINUTES. LIKE FULL CONVERSATIONS.

And I feel like it was flirty?? And I was making her laugh a lot??? And at one point she laughed and she seems to be one of those people who when they laugh a bit hard they kinda lose control of their limbs a bit🤣so she threw her head back (…😳🫣) and laughed and she like gripped my forearm?? I… guys she’s for real beautiful. Like I could NOT take my eyes off her.

BUT HERES THE THING.

MY GAYDAR IS NOT DETECTING SHIT ON HER. I have no clue. Most of my… “relationships” have been with people I’ve met in queer places, or people I’ve known prior and already know their sexualities… oh or they approach me first and very boldly flirt with me. there are two contrasting energies, one is much more practical, the other is impressive. I don't usually do readings this deep but the message I got was that this information needs to "find a real way to get it out of him".

he thinks this person is incredibly sexy, they are charismatic and kind, and he likes their energy, it feels comfortable, a little underwhelming, I must say. there is a lot of ugliness here, he might think this person is uncompromising, too difficult to talk to, they don't listen to him, I think he feels misunderstood and small. he doesn't seem confident that they're gonna make it, he may think he's been led astray by his attraction and excitement. he seems to be holding tightly to his money, he may think this person will dry him out because they love shiny things. he seems to love to give money to them, because it doesn't matter as much to him as this person matters to him, but i think he is investing and saving money for his dream family. there is a lot of heartbreak in here, from what I've read about him through tarot, he seems to idealize romance a lot, and it's like no matter how much he tries, he just can't get the results he wants. so he may marry for practicality, the one that feels the closest to what he really dreams of, because he might think that he's being realistic and nice to himself. and wouldn't say he doesn't like this person, but there's something missing.

this is what he fantasizes about, this is where explores his imagination, he feels like a kid, he's just so purely happy that I cannot find the words to really describe it. I have a paper on my desk where i am right now, where I drew a bunch of ramdom flowers, I could see him hopping through those very colorful, vivid flowers with the biggest smile and the wind blowing on his face, the drawings are in black and white. he loves this energy, this is like a really good dream, where he's wearing loose clothes in a cottage and just playing around, having the best time of his life, i cannot describe how good, pure and liberating this energy feels. in practical, conscious ways, it doesn't seem possible and he gets really really sad about that, but he just kind of gives up and moves on, because he thinks there's nothing he can do about it, like he doesn't have control over this. also, he currently has a girlfriend, he might feel it's not fair if he fantasizes, instead of focusing on being good to a real partner that he already, currently has. I just remembered this one book that I read, the protagonist would have these dreams with this other person she has never met, they lived in an island and they had something they had to achieve. the dreams kept happening throughout her whole life, they saw each other grow up and mature, she felt the most fulfilled in her entire life while she had those fantasies. except, they accidentally met in real life one day, they were real people and they weren't the dream that the other had seen in their mind, they had saggy boobs and beer belly, instead of six-packs and strong arms. i dont know what happens next because i have adhd and can't remember the last time i finished a book, but that was the energy and I totally forgot about this story until now (i still have the book, it's called hugo & rose). it's like he won't know what love is until he meets this person, he might have an idea and he might love people close to him, but nothing would feel as groundbreaking as this.

I think I said everything I could say about it? Hella underrated in my humble opinion. I understand that Trevor doesn't interact with Hector much in the game proper, but c'mon, all the ingredients for a solid enemies-to-rivals-to-friends-to-lovers/defrosting ice king arc are there!

First of all, I will be remiss if I don't point out the amazing tension between them during their first fight :P

My good man was very much enjoying whipping the silver haired pretty boy into submission :P and he's so damn sassy, "wow you're supposed to be the scary Devil Forgemaster I heard so much about? lol. lmao even." between him and isaac being a bitch in the first cutscene, poor hec getting bullied by his bfs :(

But then he accepts that Hector really is on his side and he had misjudged him before (and in Japanese this is the moment they both switch from kisama to omae, love when it does that), and he decides to whip him into submission again test his strength to deem if he's worth of helping him, you know much like he did with his friends in CV3! And this time Hector is a good match for him, and that's when Trevor turns... weirdly passionate. Like, I'm not the only one who thinks he sounds just a little too concerned, am I? Even more so in Japanese??

and then isaac stabs/molests him because how dare he touch his hector and we never see him again :D

Well, anyway. We're left to imagine what happens after the events of CoD, and we know that Trevor was left in Julia's care after being stabbed so Hector is bound to see him one last time at the very least, talk with him. Sure, maybe Hector decides that he's done with a life of fighting and he never sees Trevor again, but he could also become an ally of his as a way to make up for his mistakes.

As for their dynamic, you have Hector on one side who is relatively the only sane man and Tired of Everyone's Shit (especially now that he's not Cursed lol), and on the other you have the King of Slaying, Trevor who is very well aware of how charismatic he is and he's not afraid of showing off :P at least think of the comedic potential. A bit more seriously, in a hypothetical rewriting of CoD, the two might bump into each other more often, and we might learn that Trevor knew about the atrocities Hector committed under Dracula's name, maybe even saw him and Isaac personally, and that's why he didn't give him the benefit of the doubt unlike he did with, say, Alucard; and Hector could swear that he really regrets what he's done and he will do anything to atone for his sins, and maybe he'd help Trevor during their travels, and the two could learn to actually trust each other and see each other's best parts, Trevor's pure heart and Hector's more noble side. Also, they were both shunned from society due to their powers, but Hector could admire Trevor for never feeling resentment and immediately jumping to help the same people who hated him, while Trevor might sympathize with Hector and commend him for eventually finding the strenght to break free from Dracula's influence.

In short, you do have to kind of write a whole fanfiction by yourself, unlike say Isaactor where the proof that Isaac wanted Hector is all but text :P but I think they have potential! Either as different people growing closer, or simply as rivals with plenty of UST :P

Zodiac Big 3 of the Hazbin Hotel Characters (Zodiac Series) (Angel)

I’m an admirer of astrology and things related to it. I am not a professional or even a person with vast depths of knowledge about it, yet I still find it quite enjoyable. So, because the Hazbin series are getting quite near, I thought I share my opinions on what placements the characters would have (you could call it a prediction too). This is based on the pilot and many headcanons that my brain came to think of.

(Yes, I have decided to use this as an intro. For now, at least.)  

ANGEL

Ascendant in Gemini

So, how do we engage with the world? How other people first perceive us? To who we are meant to grow in this lifetime? These and other questions may be answered with the help of the rising sign. As for Angel, I’m thinking Gemini.

Firstly, they are really fun, curious and charismatic people. They love to engage in various topics of conversation and definitely will tell you their opinion on the matter and won’t shy away from commenting their observations and thoughts about anything. I can just picture Angel Dust chilling and gossiping with Cherri. Plus, Gemini Ascendent tends to be very expressive with their words and hand gestures. I mean, the guy is a Spider sinner, so why wouldn’t he use those a lot?

On the flip side, they get disinterested easily if they aren’t feeling mentally stimulated. They jump from one thing to another really fast, there’s no routine or mundane activity that they will likely engage in for a while. It can show through the story, for instance, Angel trying out various suggested “good” activities from Charlie and quickly switching them. He would entertain the idea just because Angel would find it hilarious, maybe wanting to prove Charlie that he can’t really change.

Since Angel would be a Gemini rising, he would have a Sagittarius 7th house, which would mean that he is open minded, active and quite fun in his relationships. He would enjoy spending time with different kinds of sinners, talking about anything and everything. Another thing is longing for freedom which I see as his number one goal in the run of the series. Escaping from Valentino and learning how to be free from toxic patterns of behaviour.

Since Gemini is connected to communication in all of its forms, Angel is definitely not afraid to speak up, whether it be a real – life debate or just posting online. He finds engaging in the conversations quite fun. That also makes him really understanding and appreciating of other’s opinions. Angel would invite himself in a conversation that he wasn’t part of.

So, I believe that the Gemini Ascended Angel will be a communicating and charming social butterfly who will reach the goal of being completely free.

The Sun in Leo

What do we pride in? How’s our ego? What drives us to life? Those and various more questions can be answered with the help of our Sun placement. For our lovely Angel Dust, I picked Leo.

Our wonderful Leo Suns are playful, generous and creative people who wish to be seen in one way or the other. No matter if they’re the life of the party or a shy artist type of Leo, those people are still loving, supportive and have a bit of an ego. Angel does seem like life of the party kind of guy who knows how attractive he is. Doesn’t mean that he will be afraid to use it though.

Leo Sun is very expressive in many different ways – how they talk, how they look, what kind of things they create, how they present themselves to the world. The Sun is always looking for ways to be unique and true to its core. Angel is definitely everything but shying away from being dull and simple. However, Leo Sun can be stealing the spotlight for itself, not sharing it with other people. The Sun is also a star, so it needs to remember to be less self – absorbing and more inclusive. The Leo Sun also possesses a bit of confidence issues, although they are really well hidden. That could play out in the run of the show – Angel being stuck in between “I’m better than everyone” and “Everyone is better than me” mentalities while trying to find the healthy middle.

Of course, we can’t forget Leo Sun’s love for drama, romance and celebrating personal as well as their loved one’s victories. They are the type to hype everyone up and I can see Angel being there for everyone. His inner kindness being hidden behind a teasing and flirting mask.

All in all, I hope to witness Angel’s journey to become a healthy and confident Leo Sun who isn’t afraid of having fun.

The Moon in Libra

What brings us the most comfort? How to we express our feelings that is truest to our heart? What is hidden, only for us to know? These and other questions can be answered with the help of our Moon sign. Angel’s would be in the sign of Libra, in my opinion.

To begin with, Libra Moon is empathetic, fair and will stand up for their loved ones. I mean, how fast was Angel to help Cherri in a fight? The Moon is supportive and going with the flow, which shows how caring and adaptable Angel can be. (Can you imagine the hug you could get from Angel?).

However, there are some less positive traits of this Moon sign, as with all the other ones. This particular one is very likely to be co – dependent on other people. Be it romantic, platonic, family or any other kind, it can be crucial to the Moon. Libra Moon is no stranger staying in toxic relationships of its fear of becoming alone and its people pleasing tendencies. It will sacrifice its own needs and wants in relationships just to keep being in them. That could be shown in Angel’s relationship with Hazbin crew, Cherri, Molly, Valentino among other future connections. There is potential for him to learn how to set boundaries and accept that some of his relationships were quite awful, in that case, letting them go. Libra Moon can be superficial as well, which could be another struggle for Angel to defeat.

In general, Libra Moon is loving, likeable and loves to help its loved ones. There is also a need to love and be loved, which in itself is quite a beautiful possible lesson for Angel Dust. How to love the right people and how to accept their love.

To sum up, Angel Dust will have to learn and figure out how to love and be loved while also being caring and helpful, embracing his Libra Moon.

This might not be controversial in your circles, I don't know; it certainly has been in my life.

Your take on miracles seen as 'supernatural' still happening in this day and age? Such as healing someone 'stand up and walk' style or transforming substances? Adjacently, interacting with the unseen things - not only the demons we rebuke but the angels that are our allies?

Alright, this one could get proof-texty if I let it and that would be not so much a take as an essay, so I’m going to splatter up a handful of short bullets instead and you guys can poke me for further clarification or to object if you want.

👻 I’m a cessationist, which is a schmancy term to describe what I believe about the miraculous gifts of the Spirit we see in the New Testament accounts, namely healing, prophesy, and speaking in tongues.

👻 Definitions matter. We are talking here of the ways these gifts manifested themselves to members of the early church. I am not saying that God does not still heal people or that no one has ever miraculously understood a language not their own.

👻 I am saying that these gifts are no longer dispensed as gifts, that is, as abilities that the gifted person can wield at will. If you have the gift of teaching, you carry it around in your pocket and can apply it whenever you like all your life without a special zap from the Holy Spirit to kick it off. If there were still members of the Body who could do this with healing cancer or raising the dead, we would have records of it.

👻 But the main reason I believe this is not evidential, but theological. In Scritpure, miraculous abilities were given to men who were speaking with the authority of God Himself. Moses, Elijah, Elisha, Christ, the Apostles… “The God of Abraham has told me to tell you…” The fact that reality itself obeyed them was was meant as an evidence to the fact that God had chosen them to speak His word to the people.

👻 We no longer need men like this. Why? Because we have a perfect spoken Word. Hebrews 1 says:

“Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.”

God has spoken to us with authority and finality in the revealing of Christ, and this speaking needs no improvement. The apostles were writing Holy Scripture and so the miraculous gifts they wielded (at will—Paul could heal anyone he pleased, but even this gift shows evidence of decline in his later writings as the completion of the written canon approaches) gave credence to their words, in a similar way to Moses who came before Pharaoh, spoke the words God had given him to speak, and then backed them up with real physics-breaking miracles.

👻 As for the question regarding the angelic realm, I’ll quote Jack regarding the dark side:

“There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them. They themselves are equally pleased by both errors and hail a materialist or a magician with the same delight.”

And regarding the light side I’ll say that we have zero scriptural evidence of human people being the ones to initiate angelic contact (I mean this like—no one summoned a “good” angel at will, as far as I know—they arrive on the scene at God’s bidding and not man’s). We have no instructions from the authors on how to lawfully interact with angels besides being hospitable to strangers, because we might be unknowingly entertaining a messenger of God.

I grew up in charismatic circles and learned many unscriptural things regarding the supernatural and the ways Christians should interact with it, so it’s very possible I am overcautious now to compensate for that. God seems to wish for us to let Him worry about the heavenly hosts and their fallen counterparts, because there just isn’t a lot of solid teaching on our relationship with them. We’re to be obedient: this causes the devil to flee and causes the angels to rejoice. But still our orientation is toward Christ.

My character is a magic user who bound their heart and mind to a demon (we r girly bffs and talk mentally almost all the time) and together they conjure nightmares in peoples heads for cash, it's like a hitman type thing but the target doesn't die they just can have their mind warped to believe things or be made afraid of things. We could do some really extreme shit with Bills mind hopping and altering abilities, but he's at a point in his existence where he does not wanna fuck with large scale shit. (he hath experienced death and does not wanna do THAT whole ordeal over again) and I simply have no interest in anything that could force me out of the shadows. I love being mysterious.

There's wanted posters for my character but they don't have pictures, just info that there's an evil wizard woman and a magic triangle poisoning dreams and warping minds, and to contact with any info (it's a really long shot for a wanted poster, most ppl who actually read it think it's a joke)

2. when in canon does your self insert come in? do you have a scene in mind for your entrance?

I do not view myself as a part of an actual movie plotline in any way, I just wanna insert myself into the world itself so not REALLY ever, I guess in terms of the movie years prior (cause then jacks alive LOL)

3. how do the other characters generally feel about your self insert?

I think I would be generally liked by people who don't know my evil deeds, I have a sadistic side but l'm polite and charismatic, so l'm truly one of those villains who'd be so nice the hero might go 'oh god I forgot this person manipulates minds and has no issue with murder.’ Which I WILL say this fictional version of me in this villainy narrative would be a lot more nasty than I am in real life, this character doesn't blink at violence and crime and finds specifically evil power extremely enticing.

So I genuinely think it'd be a 50/50 if a character would like nice Dev or hate evil Dev. Cant help being a Gemini!!

4. would you be considered a main character, side character, villain, or something else?

I am absolutely not a main character, l'm like side villain who shows up sometimes to assist if I’m asked, but usually fucks off cause I have my own thing going on, and I'm really not interested in stopping the heroes of a story or anything like that. I'm not interested in no large scale schemes, just having a good time.

5. does your self insert have any special powers or abilities?

I do not I am a standard human being with a highschool diploma and a song in my heart but because I am psychic linked to a chaos demon I can benefit from what he's able to do. I can Do magic spells and I have a small bank of knowledge on how to make a handful of potions without a recipe (or they're scribbled on stained post it notes that I keep in my wallet). My character also dabbles in Creating spells but they don't go super well often because that takes a lot of work and I give up easily LOL

Tbh I really like the... what's the word. Stuffy??? (That's not quite right but it works) sort of sound Kaeya's eng voice has on the early quests and voicelines, though I think they may have tried to slightly up the animeness(?) of it in some later ones (which doesn't sound bad, either; just an observation). It's very human and feels more like a real, genuine voice than the [generic smooth playboy Femme Fatale: Guys Edition] voice some people seem to think of him with would have.

He is smooth and witty and charismatic sounding by design (both his own in-character and by actual marketing character design), and that's good, and I'm definitely not saying anyone talks like he does irl* - I just appreciate them letting him have that smidge of Some Real Guy voice too. It adds character distinction and charm. Like you can hear it some in the "Knight of Favonius" line I think?? That I do hear people talk like in my daily life.

It's interesting, actually; I'm not actually that familiar with most characters' other language voicings (this is extremely still a stupid gacha game (affectionate) and I have a life, hyperfixation be damned), or know enough about the languages to distinguish tone beyond the most obvious, but there are definitely character differences.

I do often see fans of the Kaeya's Chinese voice complaining about his Eng character being more flirty-toned and sadistic, when in it he's a bit more friend's-older-brother-coded (my own 'what I'm reminded of', though the older-brother-ness sentiment def isn't original to me) and pranksterish. And I saw someone joke at one point that Korean Kaeya is just too chill to be the Kaeya in their fic because he's too calm to be bothered by any of it.

One other example I'm familiar with is Childe: ENG shows anger really well, and is a bit more childish and hypocritical, but [I forgot which language but I think it was Chinese or Japanese?] Childe was more resigned and accepting of Sometimes Lying Happens Back To You, if still upset about it, and slightly more mature about that incident. (I looked into his because I saw someone saying they thought that made more sense with him being someone who had to tolerate the Abyss, and I got curious.) And Korean Childe sounds slightly more violent, in my opinion, at least on some of the more playful english lines.

I think all of the characteristics are interesting, of course, and I suppose they're all 'canon' in each language. In terms of fan stuff, I think it just depends on what the goal is! I just go by preference, but I have seen people specify what "language" of each character they're thinking of for stuff before, and even mix and match a few times.

*(related: while I was looking into the voice differences I happened across a clip where his VA was going on this whole thing about how much breathing the Kaeya Voice takes. It is literally so full of air - catch in universe Kaeya silently inhaling as much as he physically can every time no one's looking at him.)

i have several bones to pick with the english voice acting (and most of them have to do with with the goddamned anime-ness which i am, most of the time, not super fond of) but i actually really like kaeyas voice! particularly early game lol which is also a constant with genshin voiceovers for me.. what i really like about kaeyas eng voice is like. the cadence of his words. the rhythm of his speech. it sticks in my head and i keep repeating his voicelines to myself like a stim lol but anyway. once again i digress.

those are really cool details to know about! i had never looked into it before; im not familiar w like.. any of the other voiceovers (stupid gacha game (affectionate) and all that) (i thought about switching to a diff language a while back but i was too attached to kaeyas eng voicelines and that singlehandedly made me decide against it lmao) but i think it's pretty fun how the tone of the voice actor and the words chosen in translation can slightly change the characterization sometimes. i think the smooth talker flirtatious tone kaeya has influences a little how i imagine him, like, what sort of persona he displays to others, what he wants people to believe he is like, etc. in the end its all subtleties! and i love the idea of mix and matching these little characterizations when making fanon content because that is what fandom is all about babey

They don't want to be victors in a world without each other! They don't want to be victors in a world where they are alone and have lost the people they care about, the people they love! They're not the blood thirsty violent careers they once were! Now they are adults who have faced life and love and things after the games!! Their priorities have shifted! What is the point of victory if you just face abuse and lonliness!! Meaning of life and all that!! IF they're going out they are going out together!

Bestie I was about to say. I do not know how to tell you this. But you are suffering..and the war has not yet begun. Hell, who knows who will even be alive to see the START of the war (I know :) ) We WILL be going back to that bloodshed crimson clover sweet dream is OVER :)

BIG BOSS

SEXUALITY: bisexual but it’s complicated because life circumstances haven’t really allowed him much exploration of sexuality. he’s the type of bisexual that’s consistently into one type of person (charismatic, strong-willed, independant, preferably good with guns) across genders.

OTP: bbkaz ofc but i do have several other ships (eva, roy, and python mostly).

BROTP: not sure if the boss counts as a ‘bro’ but their relationship is v important to me. if not bb+amanda is extremely underrated and very cute.

FIRST HEADCANON THAT POPS INTO MY HEAD: he has perfect pitch but it’s completely wasted on him bc he has zero interest in or experience with music. he also doesn’t even know it’s a thing until kaz tries to tune his guitar for like ten minutes then goes to leave with it and bb is like “you know it’s still way off right” and when kaz sits back down to fix it, proceeds to half-assedly whistle him reference pitches while laying on his cot reading some book about military strategy. kaz shakes his head and is just like… yeah you WOULD be the one in ten thousand guy who can do this.

FAVORITE LINE: ohhh boy I have a lot, but “i was made to fight, i am a gun” and “no… the world is better off without snakes” are two top contenders that come to mind. also his entire mg2 speech.

WAY IN WHICH I RELATE: i’m also awkward with people, unfortunately unlike him i’m not inspiring enough to make up for it

CINNAMON ROLL OR PROBLEMATIC FAVE: hoo boy this meme is old isn’t it. problematic fave ofc but i do think he’s complex and that’s his entire appeal.

THE BOSS

SEXUALITY: bisexual but in a ‘considers herself straight and thinks of lesbian stuff as bosom friends’ kind of way because time period. she’s mostly uninterested in romance, it tends to find her rather than the other way around.

OTP: on one level i ship both strangeboss and joysorrow but on the other i have a hard time seeing either be truly requited on her end bc i headcanon she puts her country first to the point of it being detrimental to her personal relationships. strangeboss is also weird and complicated because the part of me that loves strangelove wants them to get married and be happy, the part of me that’s a canon purist acknowledges the reality that she talked to strangelove like she was someone else (implied to be jack) and like a child (so if that was a romantic conversation it has uncomfortable implications for the boss and jack’s relationship). so like… i love strangeboss but i feel like i am lying to myself if i think of it as being fully requited rather than a sort of very romantically charged friendship in which they toed the gay line real closely and that’s precisely why it fucked strangelove up the way it did.

BROTP: again not exactly bro but big boss. they mean so much to me.

NOTP: iiiiii don’t love seeing content of her with big boss bc they met when he was a kid and he flat out says she was like his mother, but i can’t exactly begrudge people who ship them on top of that bc there are some lines in canon with Uncomfortable Implications. none of it is concrete and it’s all ambiguously interpretable so i personally choose not to acknowledge it but like… it’s there.

FIRST HEADCANON THAT POPS INTO MY HEAD: ocelot was a drunken semi-mistake (her and sorrow were hooking up but generally used condoms) that she kept secret for as long as possible for fear her country would take the one thing she wanted for herself. she was only sent to normandy because they needed her that badly and she agreed to get a third trimester abortion but didn’t show up to get it. she didn’t exactly have a plan for how she was going to care for this baby given he was definitely going to be born in an active war zone but she did love him and intended to keep him.

FAVORITE LINE: i. feel like her entire end of mgs3 speech is such a cliche answer but it’s so fucking good.

WAY IN WHICH I RELATE: absolutely none lol

CINNAMON ROLL OR PROBLEMATIC FAVE: hard call but i’m going with problematic fave bc she very much died to perpetuate the military industrial complex and everyone in mgs is problematic except sunny.

KAZUHIRA MILLER

SEXUALITY: bisexual and it’s not complicated. he knows what he likes and goes after it, though men with a lot more caution because time period. he’s the kind of bisexual that’s into different types for men and women. women, adoring ones that will pander to his ego preferably with big tits, although spicy slap-slap-kiss types are a runner up. men, jock types with nice pecs and a tight ass. he’s a horny bastard tho so he’s often willing to take whatever he can get.

OTP: bbkaz, though i also ship vkaz (fucked up only, not fluff) and kazeva. bb/kaz/eva underrated tbh.

BROTP: solid snake? again not a bro exactly but i’m very invested in their mentorship in all of its half genuine but also using him as a tool glory.

NOTP: nothing i hate, just stuff i can’t see happening

FIRST HEADCANON THAT POPS INTO MY HEAD: he had pretty wild college years bc as soon as he didn’t have the constant responsibility of being a caretaker for his mom and was all by himself in a college environment, he exploded the other way with all the recklessness, irresponsibility, and rebellion he wasn’t able to have before. this included doing all the drugs available during peak hippie years and finding out he’s bisexual under the influence. i don’t disagree with the common headcanon that he’d go right for drugs if they were offered to him, i just hc he got most of that out of his system before he even made it to colombia. pot, LSD, shrooms, obetrol, amphetamine inhalers, etc. fun facts amphetamines were not illegal until 1970, you could just fucking buy amphetamine inhalers for allergies over the counter and a mixture of adderall and meth (obetrol) was widely sold as a prescription diet pill. anyway i don’t think coke would be his first rodeo.

FAVORITE LINE: “loneliness is something that seeps into the cracks of your heart, boredom is what causes those cracks to appear” in mg2. the implications hurt so much.

WAY IN WHICH I RELATE: high five for childhood bullying and being an endless fountain of trivia about things like the history of amphetamines.

CINNAMON ROLL OR PROBLEMATIC FAVE: problematic fave lmfaooooooo. he’s complex and i love him but imo fandom often latches onto his more sympathetic qualities while downplaying the terrible ones.

OCELOT

SEXUALITY: gay as all fuck. despite time period he’s fine with it, he knows he’s a deviant.

OTP: i’m not emotionally invested but ocelot being in love with big boss is just a fact. like the *straightest possible interpretation* for his actions is an asexual with a lifelong soul-deep obsession, and imo that is a stretch with the russian tuant and comparing himself to quiet.

BROTP: i wish we’d seen him and zero working together more, i feel like the dynamic would have been super interesting. patriots era game when.

NOTP: nothing i particularly hate

FIRST HEADCANON THAT POPS INTO MY HEAD: he’s a sadomasochist, in addition to the sadism he also gets off on getting hurt himself, but only by someone he carefully vets first. he is also super into bloodplay. i don’t read much ocelot fic but i would be surprised if this isn’t a common one.
