WIP Wednesday!

hey-hey! It’s WIP Wednesday and as usual, I am unable to keep my writing to myself ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ so here I am, here to foist my offering of more of my Zokla fic onto you good ppl. Part 1 here

I have a lot planned for this fic so lets see how much of it I manage to keep to myself, huh?

Which was worse? Gripping onto the hot, thorny scales even tighter as the monster screeches and beats its wings, carrying her away from the falling ground as they rise higher and higher or the approach of King’s Landing and the looming spectre of The Red Keep?

Air of the city sky whipped passed her face before they began to slow and descend. Her cousin’s arm tightened around her and she felt utterly helpless during her deliverance into enemy hands. The den may have been ripped from the jaws of lions and now lays in the clutch on dragons, but these walls are the same, they’ve witnessed the same sins, Sansa thought as Jon alights his Zokla and turns to help her down from the monster’s neck.

He says something to her but she is not listening. Long buried echoes of her girlhood rear their ghastly heads – of a golden prince and poison-smiled queen, of the flat edge of blades and gauntleted backhands swiping across her tender childish cheeks and the tears she would swallow down in public but later let wet her soft silk pillow.

There was a noise like the cracking of a dry branch. A sting bloomed fiercely across her palm before she truly realised what she had done. Her Targaryen cousin’s cheek was beginning to stain with a pink glow.

Dark-clothed guards rush forward, the movement making the grey dragon lower her huge head and growl defensively. Jon raises one hand, commanding his men to halt. There were already seven spears pointing in Sansa’s direction. Zokla growls again. “Shhh, bump. It’s alright girl,” he murmurs before turning back to his prisoner and the soldiers. Sansa stands defiantly, with weapons drawn upon her. She was ready for whatever punishment he might unleash upon her. She struck him across the face – an act most hostile and un-lady-like. And she would repeat it too, given half the chance. Pulling her spine straight Sansa wills her lip not to tremble as her cousin silently appraises her with his one good eye, the sting of his cheek burning beneath it.

How dare he? How dare he take her captive? Hasn’t she experienced enough of this? Hasn’t she been used? Hasn’t she been beaten? They can beat her again – he can beat her if he should wish to – she will show them that she is made of steel and ice – and stone. Stone that no dragon flame could melt. She will show him that the North does not kneel. Not truly.

Jon continues to make a map of her with his grey eye that flashes violet when the light catches it just so. One side of his lips lifts faintly. She is to try and win over this man – this Targaryen. She will have to reign in her temper to do it, but for now she will bathe in the satisfaction of having struck him. His gaze is torn away when one of the soldiers asks something in a foreign tongue, a spear jabbing in Sansa’s direction.

“Kesā daor ōdrikagon zirȳla!” Jon barks. You will not harm her!

“Ziry pryjatan ao, Morghe Vala.” Sansa struggles a little with accent but she thinks she grasps it fairly faithfully. She struck you, Dead Man.

Sansa’s Valyrian ear will have be tuned if she’s to catch everything that’s being said.

“Lo nyke hen bony ōghar va zirȳla bartos ēza issare ōdrikagon kesīr, kessa sagon ao sīkuda bona kessa sagon morghe vali,” Jon hisses and all weapons are lowered. It took Sansa a moment to translate. If I find out that one hair on her head has been harmed while here, it will be you that are the Dead Men.

“Ñuha dārilaros!” Comes the call from across the huge courtyard. My Prince. Jon grunts. He winces as he hobbles a little on his injured leg and Sansa wonders if the annoyance is at the pain or the silver haired woman now approaching them. With one word barked at his men, they leave.

“No doubt you have heard of our Queen Daenerys,” Jon tells her in a low murmur so as to inform her of the woman approaching. He turns to greet her – his aunt. “Gaomagon emā naejot yne brōzā bona?” Must you have to call me that? He does not take kindly to the lofty title of prince, then.

The woman smiles, ignoring his irritation. “Nyke zūgagon ao would daor sagon māzis arlī.” I feared you would not be coming back to us. Her silver-white hair was swept away from her beautiful face and held with pins that glittered with rubies like droplets of spilled blood on snow. Her black leather armoured dress was split-skirted and revealed deep crimson riding breeches that looked tough in material, like some sort of hide. The bodice of her dress seemed to be made of some kind of reptilian skin, with scales that crept around her small frame. She looked every inch the Targaryen and Sansa only just now realises that she must have been the rider on the red dragon, not Viserys as Lord Royce had summised.

Just then, Zokla caught Sansa completely off guard by swishing her great, muscular tail and almost wrapping it around her, as if to separate her from the two Targaryens. The move felt a little... protective? Sansa held her breath, unsure of what to make of it.

Jon chuckles darkly and gives his monster’s huge shoulder a shove. “Bump! Tepagon zirȳla arlī.” Give her back. “Ziry's ñuhon, daor aōhon.” She’s mine, not yours. There was a remorseful rumble from deep within the dragon’s chest before her tail slithered away allowing Sansa to step forward, out from within the dragon’s embrace.

“Qilōni iksis ziry?” The silver queen glances her way before making the demand of her War General. Who is she? She did not seem pleased to see her nephew return with a prisoner.

“This-“ Jon says, holding out his hand for Sansa to take while she curtseys as though he were presenting her like a gift. Sansa did not accept his offer and instead bowed her head at the beauty. “-is Lady Sansa Stark,” he finishes with a slight smirk upon his lips as he watches her.

“Hardyng,” Sansa corrects with a sniff, noting the quirk of Jon’s brow before turning back to the dragon queen. Her heart had stumbled at hearing her Stark name once more but Harry is barely cold and not yet buried – Sansa has hardly had time to properly come to terms with his fate – she won’t be giving up his name just yet. “Your Grace,” she acknowledges the silver-haired queen.

Startling violet eyes swept up and down her frame. “Skoro syt iksis ziry kesīr?” Why is she here? The queen looks to her nephew with demand and suspicion in her eyes. She did not seem pleased to find a Stark (Hardyng though she may be) within their midst.

“I invited her.” Sansa almost snorts at his reply. If this was an invitation, she wouldn’t like to witness his command. She had certainly been issued with no indication that she could refuse his ‘invitation’. “And as our guest favours the common tongue, I should think it more polite that we use it.” He seems unaware that she is able to follow Valyrian if she concentrates enough. That is fine, Sansa thinks. It may be to her advantage for him to believe her ignorant of his words.

The queen presses her lips tightly together. “Dārys se Bloodwing issi ōdrikagon. Dārys's tīkun iksis olvie quba,” she says, ignoring her general’s request for the common tongue. Dārys and Bloodwing are both injured. Dārys’s wing is badly ripped. Jon sighs and rubs at his forehead, his inaction seeming to frustrate his aunt. “Zirȳla people gōntan bisa naejot īlva zaldrīzes's!” she spits, giving Sansa a look of dark fire. Her people did this to our dragon's!

At that, Jon took it upon himself to shift – step between Sansa and his queen as he stares his silver-haired aunt down. The intent seemed clear though no words, neither Valyrian, nor common were spoken. Sansa could see his shoulders rise and fall with each steady breath. Peering over them, the dragon queen seems to be even more frustrated.

“Visērȳs kessa daor sagon biare naejot gūrēñagon zȳhon zaldrīzes daor sōvegon,” Daenerys ground out between clenched teeth. Viserys will not be happy to learn his dragon can no longer fly.

“Bisa iksis vīlībāzma, Daenērys,” This is war, Daenerys, Jon rumbles, his voice low and calm. “Gōntan ao pendagon konīr daorys jiōragon ōdrikagon?” Did you think there would be no casualties?

“Not our dragons,” Daenerys answers, violet eyes flashing over Jon’s shoulder to pierce Sansa. “Never our dragons,” she hisses, spinning to stride away, taking her queenly venom with her.

Jon takes in a large lungful and reaches out to pat at his Zokla. “Tolī, riña. Nyke'll māzigon naejot ūndegon ao tolī.” Later, girl. I’ll come to see you later. He turns to face Sansa and offers his arm again only to drop it back to his side when he notes the defiant expression she grants him. “Come, Jaesa,” he says gruffly, calling her Goddess again and starting to stalk toward the keep while expecting her to follow. “Let’s get you washed up before we present you to the King.”

Her cousin escorts Sansa to rooms larger than those she had been imprisoned in before. If her memory serves her well, these had been poor little Prince Tommen’s when last she had been here at King’s Landing. Rumour has it that the little prince who had been a short-lived king grew so scared at the sight of the dragons coming for him, that he jumped from his window. Sansa glances at the shuttered windows now, shaking the awful rumour from her head. Besides, he was king at the time of the Targaryen invasion, he would not have still resided in these rooms, he would not have jumped from these windows, his plummeted death was not below her new prison’s views. Sansa cannot seem to think of Tommen as anything other than the chubby-cheeked boy who loved his cat. She knows it has been a few years since, and likely the roundness of youth had slipped from his face and hardened under the crown they put upon him, but Sansa will not try to amend her memories.

Arya loved to chase the cats here too.

That memory is sharp and stinging – just as biting as her strike to Jon’s face would’ve been for him. Sansa rubs a thumb into her palm as she tucks the memory of her sister away, wraps it in soft knitted fabrics and tells herself not to think that the last place she saw her alive was this wretched castle.

Her eye casts around. The rooms are fairly bare; looking positively naked without the swaths of crimson velvets with golden trims and emblems of lions – all the things she’d come to expect of Red Keep chambers from her time here under Lannister rule. They were meant to be stags, she thinks to herself, turning to see her cousin stood behind her with his ever-watching eye. And you are meant to be a dragon though you call your beast a wolf. Can you be swayed?

“Satin!” he barks, though his eye never strays from her as he stands there, hands behind his back, observing her like she were a curious new species of creature. A comely young man with ink-dark ringlets appears as if he had been hiding within the very walls awaiting his master’s summons.

The servant’s dark eyes quickly take in the General’s injured leg. “Aōha kris!” Your leg!

“The common tongue, please Satin,” her cousin says, ignoring the young man’s concern. “We have a guest.” He nods his head in her direction.

‘Satin’, gives her a smile. “Apologies, my lady,” he says before sweeping into a low bow.

“Fetch Lady Sansa some water to bathe,” Jon commands.

“But... your leg-“

The manservant is cut off by a sharp turn of his masters head accompanied by a searing glare.

Satin sniffs and straightens, holding his poise perfectly. “Here? In your rooms?” To which, her cousin gives a stiff nod. Satin scurries off to do as he is bid.

That catches Sansa off guard. His rooms? What on earth does he mean by bringing her here.

Something twitches in her belly – a horrid spark of a thought.

He wouldn’t violate her, would he? She knows nothing of the Targaryens and even less of the particular one standing in front of her.

Her cousin approaches and Sansa stands strong with steel in her spine. If she is afraid, she will be damned if he’s to know about it. He’s standing close now, his skin and armour still coated in battle-grime; dirt, blood and sweat. His eye roams her face as Satin scurries back in, directing his under-servants with the bath tub and buckets. Jon does not move and Sansa wonders if he’ll ever look his fill of her. “You need not be afraid of me, cousin,” he murmurs low for only her ears. Sansa peers over his shoulder at the way the servants (save for Satin) skitter around like mice trying desperately to fulfil their master’s wish before they can flee again. They seemed afraid.

Swallowing, Sansa forces a smile. The worst kind of beasts can smell fear – it excites them. She does not know what sort of beast stands before her yet but she won’t let him get her scent. “Why have you brought me to your chambers, General?” she asks calmly as hot steaming water splashes into the tub by the hearth.

“They are yours now,” he says, “while you stay with us.”

“And where will you sleep?”

Satin makes an odd, amused snorting noise. Jon ignores it. “It is a big castle, my lady. I’m sure I will find somewhere to lay my head.”

That did not assuage her thoughts. She’s been in the position of prisoner before, she knows of many different ways captors treat their captives. Robb will gut you if you hurt me, she thinks, hoping it to be true. “I am well aware of how large the castle is,” she tells him dismissively, looking around, feigning disinterest. “There are far less golden lions than last I was a ‘guest’ here.”

Jon leans forward and tilts his head as he asks, “An improvement?”

Sansa catches sight of a new little serving mouse scurrying in and frantically whispering into Satin’s ear. Whatever he was told, it made his pleasant complexion turn pallid. She will have relearn all there is to know about the servants and the guards while she is here. To be informed is to be forearmed after all. There is just enough time for her answer before Satin approaches them. “An improvement? Perhaps. Though there may be a few too many dragons for my liking. I am yet to decide.”

Her answer earns a wry smile from her cousin before his manservant comes up to whisper in his ear, causing that smile to slide right off. “Ziry iksos rhēdan? Sir?” he asks, finally tearing his gaze away from Sansa. It’s started? Now?

“Kessa, istiti jikagon naejot zirȳla.” Yes, we must go to her.

Jon offers her quick glace before taking Satin by the arm and hauling him away, hissing, “Se skoros gaomagon īlon gīmigon hen ra? īlon daor dohaeragon zirȳla!” And what do we know of these things? We cannot help her. Satin shrugs out of Jon’s grip. There is a fury in his eyes when he squares up to his master with his reply. Sansa did not catch the words but she had never before seen a servant react in such a manner towards their lord. For half a moment, she believes she is about to witness a beating. Instead, she watches as her cousin growls some response and fishes out a small bag of coins. “Jurnegon syt dohaeragon. Sindigon pōja lykemagon,” he murmurs, handing the coin to Satin. Find someone to help. Buy their silence. “Jikagon.” Go.

hello hello ! after some delay,, i am here,, w information on louis ! while my roommate’s boyfriend makes the weirdest noises i hate it !

backstory:

triggers: near-death/death, something that’s suicide attempt -adjacent but... not directly a suicide attempt because the end goal wasn’t actually death, terminal illness ( cystic fibrosis - but no, not 5 feet apart )

Louis was born and raised in Mapleview, NC. His parents had moved to the Carolinas after years in LA, finding that… maybe the reason they were having trouble conceiving was because of the stress of city life?

Perhaps that was true. Perhaps that wasn’t. It probably wasn’t. Indeed, it was probably just dumb luck that they finally succeeded when his mother was 36, a late pregnancy which prompted them to keep a close eye on little Louis’s health.

When he came out perfectly healthy on the 7th of December, they simply could not have been more joyous. So they celebrated him, born on a lucky day.

He started his life as a fun-loving guy! A kid who played with everyone turned into a teenager who had no shortage of friends. Being a bit of a stoner, he wormed his way into a tight-knit group… that was pretty much full of other stoners.

However, his fun-loving nature changed on a fateful day when he and his friends found a man, so close to death. They managed to get him to the hospital in time to save his life, but Louis was changed that day. Their hometown hero status didn’t mean much to Louis – no, he just wanted to become acquaintances with the man and figure out what it was he saw during those moments of half-death.

And so acquaintances they became. The man telling Louis that he saw nothing, recalled nothing, felt nothing… it brought both terror and peace to the young man.

It also brought morbid curiosity. He began withdrawing from his friends and family, really only continuing to speak to Adrien and their other friend (wc on main!) as they had actually been there. They’d shared that experience that Louis’s therapist called ‘trauma.’

A few months after the incident, his curiosity got the better of him. He didn’t hope to die – not really – but he hoped to come close. He stuck a knife into an electrical socket and… saw nothing until his parents found him – thank goodness – just in time.

And yet, he’d never been more at peace.

However, no one in his family was necessarily ‘good’ at dealing with problems. Instead ot talking about it, instead of sending him to a therapist, they all just pretended it never happened after they paid off the hospital bill. He wasn’t suicidal, just curious!

So he began applying to colleges – all was well! Although he was accepted into the Carolinas’ more prestigious universities, such as Duke and Wake Forest, he wound up attending his safety school out of adoration for its campus: University of North Carolina at Asheville (UNCA, s/o to myself because this is where I go!)

He began his studies with the intended double-major of Literature and History and he was doing well. He was shining in college, too distracted by Whitman’s ego to worry about the concept of death.

Until he met his college girlfriend, that is.

A victim of cystic fibrosis, Louis knew their time was likely limited to perhaps another decade and a half (unless scientific advancements were made – you see, he would’ve switched majors, but he wasn’t STEM-minded in the slightest). They decided they’d make the most of their time together and, as Louis was taught to do, largely ignore the elephant in the room.

To receive a Masters in Library Science (MLIS), he transferred to Appalachian State University (“App”) with his girlfriend by his side, earning her own Masters.

Things were simply beautiful. Everything was looking up. He felt just as much peace as he had in half-death, but it was in life!

But… complications got complicated!

A clinic had his girlfriend getting special treatment… but it also had her near other CF patients. And they couldn’t even be sure she wasn’t on the placebo! So, after a few treatments and instances of getting a bit too close with some of the other patients, her condition worsened and things… were not looking spectacular.

This was around the time Louis completed his degree at 25 (did I do the math right?). They initially had plans to marry after they completed their courses, but gave up any ideas for large weddings and were officiated by a friend who signed up online. Their plans of moving somewhere bigger – still in state, so as to make travel easier, but bigger, nonetheless – were also cut short. Louis’s parents advised him to do what they had done and return to Mapleview, a calm life that they thought had allowed them their pregnancy.

Louis figured it was an idea worth trying. It wasn’t as though it would improve her condition, but it would improve her overall quality of life, right?

When he was 27, she succumbed a bit early to her illness. And he was at peace with that. He missed her – dear god, he missed her – but she’d returned to the night sky, the stars that he could see.

However, his life has since become incredibly rigid and routine. His obsessions worsened after her death, as did his craving for cleanliness and overall order. Being an archivist was perfect for that, but was terrible for most other aspects of his life.

Yes, yes, his quality of life deteriorated.

He’s essentially become Jane Kerkovich-Williams from the iconic Happy Endings, suggesting better organization systems… in stores dedicated to organization. He no longer attends therapy, refusing to agree with their diagnoses. Because he’s fine. There are no problems. Indeed, quite the Type A.

But also on a sliding scale that could put him in a very Judah Mannowdog from the Bojack Horseman (why do I keep taking inspiration from this show-) box. Depends on the day.

tl;dr:

was a sociable kid and teenager. withdrew after finding a man on the brink of death with his friends and became lowkey obsessed with death. (suicide attempt-ish tw) stuck a knife in an electrical socket because he had to know what was beyond life, but not necessarily bc he wanted to die (end tw). everyone ignored that. went to unca and fell in luv w a girl who had cf. went to app state to gain an mlis. her disease worsened during a clinic. moved back to mapleview. she died. rip ip. wasn’t the typical Grieving Widower™ bc he figured he knew what was on the other side and it was nice! but,, his mental state did worsen and his obsessions, need for organization, and overall type-a demeanor amplified.

Talking With Trees Again

Part 2

By the time I found out I really was a tree-talker, I was in my 30’s and trying to manage a place to meditate out by a huge old Wild Cherry. To be honest I had completely forgotten the incident when I was 5; even the parts where the tree predicted what would happen in my future.

After we moved into the rickety old 1920s cabin in the woods (after making extensive repairs) I was taking time to find my way around. I had suddenly felt the Earth pull me down to the ground and it seemed as if I had found “My Place” in the world. But the ants were maniacal! Hundreds of them: red and delicate black and red & black and heavy black in every size conceivable. Fire ants, Carpenter ants, Theif Ants and not to be outdone, Crazy Ants. You name it, I was awash in them. There was no way to manage it so I could be in “MY spot”. After all the Earth called me…told me that was it. So I thought, why not? “Uh, tree? ‘Scuze me, but do you know how I could ask the ants to leave me some space there?”

“….Peppers!” You could feel it start before there was any interpretation yet. The energy sort of “arrived” next to your head and eased it’s way in. ??? Suddenly I understood what it meant.

Like a child whose stuck in molasses, “Ya mean like hot peppers?”

Instantaneous definitive response: silent “DUHHH.” The tree feared the worst! That one took less than a 1/100th of a second.

“…..And how do I do this, exactly?”

The tree realized he would have to explain. There was a slight chagrin, even apologetic tenor in his reply.

“Ah. Well, uh, go to the store.

Buy some peppers. …are you still with me..?”

“Store, Peppers, right! Carry on!”

Seeming to realize that I was not literally in molasses, he continued with some version of civility. “About 1 full pound, hottest peppers…”

“Like Habaneros or hotter? I’m not sure what they will have.” I asked, obtuse to the last..

Sigh. “Habaneros will be fine.” He continued, a bit exasperated. “Cut carefully (use gloves and wash hands thoroughly, even after gloves. Do not touch seeds.) Bring to boil for 10 minutes in 1 gallon water, let cool. Strain juice.”

“Pour at least 1 quart pepper juice on ground where you would like to sit.” (At which point he seemed to suggest a spot close to his trunk but not touching where I had felt the strong pull to sit.) “Allow juice to dry. The ants will abandon that spot, no harm to you or them. Keep area misted with juice for the first few days/weeks-- remember to always use a ground covering to protect you from the spray. And uhhh, (pause...sigh) please forgive me. I regret rudeness.”

Needless to say I was hooked. What a guy! Friendly?… well, he grew more so after we got better acquainted. I once asked him, after that beginning, if he was always snippy with other ppl. He said he hadn’t had any ppl for the last 40 years. Before that it had been another 50 and before that it had been over 200. He said people showed up, made themselves to home and them abandoned him. “Tsk tsk, now now, such a fuss from a great big old Wild Cherry such as yourself! I thought the Native people used to say the Wild Cherry was for healing the heart. So what happened?”

This was the one and only time I felt him sort of dig his north west roots into the ground, (???) all very “aw, shucks, ma’am” embarrassed over his indulgences. It was faint and fleeting but unmistakable. In spite of every effort to keep a straight face, I couldn’t help but laugh! And then... he laughed, too.

There was no mistake that the huge specimen was located right in the center of my new yard.

One day I noticed some bulges in the bark nearly the size of my fist on the North side of the tree and suddenly they were oozing sap. Alarmed, I asked what was wrong, what can I do, what do you need?

He showed no concern at all. I pressed for answers. Offered a Tree Arborist, even. He explained that he was grumpy when I first roused him from his “withdrawal” because he was beginning his energy release. He had started a little too early but figured it wouldn’t really matter if he took his time about it. Finally I realized he meant his death. It was time for him to shut down and there was a long slow ritual of energy release (for some trees) prior to leaving the structure he had created. After much discussion on my part he said he was “gratified” to know the extent of my emotion for him but that it was the way life worked. This tree was not my first but he was my formal teacher in Nature. If I mourn him for long he will send wily shoots up through his old decayed roots as if to say, “I am not dead yet!!! Stop assuming what you do not understand!!!” He taught with extraordinary measures and went so far as to throw light and rainbows out in moments of my revelations! He was extraordinary and I would give so much to still have him as my companion.

Now, after spending years in different places, I am once again back to the old cabin in the woods and counting what is left of the days I can say that word--Woods. This beautiful wilderness has survived all my life and fed heart and soul exactly as I wished. Soon it will be gone. They have planted once-open pastures with crop pine and sold everything else to developers. The yearly fires to clear it have been burned. Contractors and surveyors tramp the land now marking off the Bald Cypress Swamps to be drained and filled, and huge 400+ year old Live Oaks to be cut, sawn to dust or sold to pulp mills. My current lesson in acceptance!!!

I need to scout out the trees who show a preference for teaching and a level of patience to match the masterful Wild Cherry. It will take some planning and have to be done carefully before hunting season begins. This section of State Forest is not carefully protected and people interested in trees are at risk. I want to learn all I can before it’s too late.

so this time its mostly dialogue. I’m not a fast typer so i definitely missed stuff and my spelling is atrocious, but I did use the break and until the live stream ended to fill in the gaps I could. Nott: Yes, and one day i um i was playing a game with the other boys and they dared one of their friends to give me a kiss, and the boy was very nice and he actually seemed to like it and he and i became friendly and eventually did what people do and got married and he didn't mind my strangeness and i helped him get his apothecary up and running and he was a brilliant chemist and could make acids and potions and oils and bleaches for fabric for all sorts of things and he helped me. Eventually we had a baby named luke and he was a bright boy, very smart, he learned to talk very early and walk very early. Such a smart boy and that's who you saw back there is my son.

Jester: so was he right, did you die?

Nott: I think so, I think so, uh. We had a rough winter in felderwind, there were not a lot of crops and i think some of the animals had died that winter. This river i brought you to this sort of, it's a beautiful place i used to come here with yeza and it's an important place i used to come here with yeza… the goblins would come from over there, they would raid from over there [points]... They came into town and raided more and more, they took us. They took me and my husband and my child, they held us in one of their camps. I don’t know if it was days or weeks or months. Luke, he wasn’t doing well….. We ran, we ran in the dead of night, they were fast, i've been chased a lot… i told them to run… the goblins followed me and when they found me i fought, i had a vial of acid and i threw it in the face of the one trying to catch us, they took me back to the camp. I think he died from his wounds…[I think he was a type of leader] i think he had a wife. This goblin told the woman ‘make her suffer’ and they did. They brought me to this river and they drowned me in it. I can still feel the water in my lungs and in my ears and in my nose. And then nothing. Until i woke up and saw the hands.. The skin and i looked in a puddle and i could see what they made me. They made me into everything i thought i was. Not pretty, not good, just not. I'll be honest, i've started forgetting what it was like to be halfling. Just everyday just more and more goblin…. I'm sorry i didn’t tell u and im sorry i lied and i'm sorry caleb i didnt tell u. You would have understood and you could have helped me, i dunno. I feel like you're almost there like you're almost strong enough…. Anyways that's how i got to you, and that's why i got to you and why i can't be in this town. Well i only recently started signing the letters. I don't know what he would think of me. {Missed a lot here}

I was a little less hungry for a while. I have been afraid for a long time, two of the people in that town are from the cerberus assembly. I don't think [the assembly members would recognise him] I walked passed that portrait many times. One of them is the head of the cerberus assembly. There's good teachers, it's everything they describe it to be. After going there for several months, one of the assembly who also would teach on occasion, started interviewing me. Calling me in and asking me questions. He sorta put me in an advanced class, me and a few others. I don't want you all to be seen with me by one of them, they will use you to get to me. You met the man who trained me. His name is Trent Ikathon.

The Cerberus assembly are the most powerful mages in the empire…over 200 yrs ago a # of mages went to war in the streets of Restrum and um, it was bloody and awful and eventually came to a truce … proposed to the king at the time that they serve as an advising body to the throne.

Jester: Would they see if we were disguised? Or would they have to look for us.

Caleb: I don’t know for sure but there is a reason i didn't use something like that back there.

Fjord: So, we need to give the a very wide birth.

They dug in the third one tunnel a bit. Each tunnel is 200-300 feet apart. The tunnel that was dug out was in the middle. Tunnel at a steep angle w/ rope hanging down. This tunnel kept gong 50ft before evening out at a steady downward incline. Looks organically carved tunnel rather than arcane. Definitely burrowed. Nothing on detect magic or undead.

Also Beau and Bren are the names parents would name their kids if they wanted to have a matching letter for all their kids but the kids hate being a matched set.

Jester having the crisis of ‘I was lonely but y’all had some shit’ was really heartbreaking to watch. I hope she doesn’t stop that progression of showing more and more genuine emotion both positively and negatively.

i don’t wanna say the word overrated because i don’t believe in that. i just find it interesting how certain characters are getting a lot of attention (e.g gavin, nines) whilst other characters are ignored or reviled. thats not me saying the characters whom are popular in fandom should be ignored, thats me saying i’d like more focus on other characters i like too e.g markus, kara, kamski, the jerries, north, josh, rose & adam and a bunch more. i just really like all the androids and some humans okay

like, its pretty obvious why simon (white man) is being adored whilst josh (black) and north (woman) are being ignored and despised respectively, right? and thats not me hating on simon or saying less simon. i like simon! (or like, what can be done with him bcuz canon simon has no depth)

i just happen to like josh and north! which deserves its own bullet point

not only do i like north, i love north and she’s one of my fave characters!

i do not agree with the often used phrase “hank and connor are the only worthwhile part of this game”, in fact, i hate it. sure, the best part of the game, go ahead. but the only worthwhile part? fuck you, because

i like markus and kara and their stories! whilst most my problems with this game are in markus’ story (just trust me on that), overall i still like it. and kara? heck theres not a single kara chapter i don’t like. and on that note:

i don’t consider kara’s story to be useless. yeah she’s not part the revolution plot but thats not bad. i think it provides a balance. think of it like this: markus represents The Leader, the liberator, the messiah. he is fighting for his people. and he comes from a privileged background. connor is representing The Man, The System, depending on how you play him he is rebelling against The System or is a part of it. now what does kara represent? The People. her and the other androids she encounters represent the average android in this world. markus and connor can’t do that so i feel its important we see her. we’re seeing what markus (and maybe connor) are fighting for. and i think thats really important

and besides all that, i just plain like it okay

i like markus/north, i think they make a good couple (moreso in my head than in the game but i still think they’re sweet in the game)

the concept that pacifist markus and north don’t “make sense together” is stupid because ur assuming north is bloodthirsty and has no room for growth. and that all couples need to agree with each other. also north for violent markus and simon for pacifist markus also makes no sense to me becuz 1. people aren’t rewards, 2. ur confusing simon with josh. again. and 3. violent!markus and north would just be enabling each other. if north is to be with any markus, it should be pacifist markus because they’d be good for each other. also all three of them being options woulda been nice but that’s not an unpopular opinion anyways so moving on

the awkwardness felt about markus/north coulda totally been fixed by literally just one change. take the “lover” indicator and move it until after their first kiss. that way the timing is far less jarring and because the player can choose the kiss or not, the “lover” thing feels more like “yay i made their relationship grow” and less “oh whoa that was sudden”. if that was moved and nothing else changed, markus/north would’ve been way more loved. but alas, markus’ relationship scanner is just damn awkward

markus, my markus, is a verse and a kind, socially inept boy (i like how with the jericho four, north is a rowdy girl whilst the other three are various kinds of soft boys in their own way. i think thats cute and neat)

connor is not an innocent niave dumb bimbo (save that for the bedroom) and i wanna remind ppl that he’s an expert on psychology

the humans killed by daniel, ralph, echo (blue traci), shaolin (HK400) and north all deserved it

north, josh and simon would not all hate each other, fuck you. these people are meant to be friends, remember? (also jericho OT4, y’all!!!)

the facial expression on simon’s face after markus and north kiss at the end is gentle approval. he looks happy, some ppl are just projecting

the way some markus/simon shippers talk about north is downright sexist and i think most north hate is caused by sexism & rape apologism

(i’m a live and let live kinda person about ships and also i’ve very into multishipping so some y’alls behaviour is perplexing to me)

there is nothing inherently morally wrong with shipping hank/connor. connor is capable of consent and age differences aren’t inherently bad. and the only reason this ship is controversial is because hank looks old and he’s not conventionally attractive. nobody would care otherwise

kamski isn’t evil, he’s morally ambiguous / chaotic neutral

i, uh, like kamski/chloe. its interesting (i’ve embraced that it’s fucked up) and i like the idea that chloe actually does love him. its kinda tragic?

a bunch of that was more about the fandom than the game but whatever. and as usual when i make a list, theres probs more but like, thats what comes to mind

yeah there was room for improvement on this game but overall i think its great and i like the characters, more than that i like what can be done with the characters. like, its a nice place to build from. and like, the people who are all like “if ur a fan of detroit become human, ur a bad person” can just fuck off

1) what is the conspiracy theory / cryptid / Unsolved Mystery you believe in most deeply? i actually haven't spent too much time investigating many of these! But i do have a fake travel poster advertising Indonesia and the Giant Ahool - so let's go with that one!!

2) if you could live in any historical time, or future time, what would it be? uh ideally i would like to live in a future time where i get to write in my house on a cliff over looking the ocean which i don't have to leave if i don't want to or unless i need to buy groceries.

3) what’s your favorite thing you’ve ever created? if you’re not an artist, that’s totally okay - baking/cooking counts (just link the recipe!!!), crafting, etc. etc. well for the past two years it had been my Whiptrash fic, My Kingdom for Your Graces, which really imltho did everything i set out for it to do and it was well received in the small community i had written it for. But as i move forward on my current wip, These Will Just Be Places to Me Now, is becoming my favorite. it's a very timely piece for me with its themes and tone; as in the past year i have more or less cut ties with some persons in my life with who i had rather unhealthy relationships. I could go on and on — i just love it so much.

4) what’s the most beautiful place you’ve ever been? and the ugliest place you’ve ever been? beautiful: iceland probably or Hong Kong. there are some quite breathtaking places along the Pacific coast. hell i like most of the places i have been, but those come to mind first! ugliest: ugh downtown LA in the summer....is largely unpleasant

5) tell me about a song or album that has autobiographical significance to you. i already told you this, Gen, but The National's City Middle is a pretty big one for me in terms of my relationship to writing. that's a bit of a downer, so for just me in general, I would say Bon Iver's 10 d E A T h b R E a s T ⚄ ⚄ [Extended Version] - the way he speaks about time, in particular, resonates with my own feeling and has actually been a theme which has cropped up in my writing since i was quite young and before i even realized i was doing it.

6) what is your favorite meme? idk there are so many good ones but the fucking doge never ceases to make me laugh tbh

7) do you collect anything? if so, what and why? at various points in my life, i have collected jewelry boxes, Barry Koltnow Hollywood commentary articles, and stickers (actually I still do this). But lately i just collect quotes of brilliant prose. Mostly for inspiration for my own work, but also they are just fucking good and i like memorizing good writing.

8) your best drug experience? your worst drug experience? (alcohol counts) not THE best, but a really good experience: was the just this side of tipsy we all got at the cast party of Hamlet—which we had performed in Elsinore— and so we were drinking in the castle and we just had a ball; high on our success. Also this was the first time i tasted Gammeldansk, which i adore beyond all measure. worst drug experience: i got absolutely smashed the day of drumpfs election. i drunk that evening till i was sick and then i woke up the next day sick for work. nasty hangover a+++

9) what is your favorite item of personal adornment? (clothing, makeup, jewelry, anything goes!) atm probably gonna have to go with my blood red eye glasses. i had wanted them for a long time but couldn't seem to find any with big enough lenses for me to aha ha ha see. i even took a sharpie to a cheap pair of clear ones i had, till i finally found some real red ones late last year and i just love them. also simply because i am currently wearing it; i really love this tank top i have with an ink splattered bottle and the words "and it will be a voice made of ink and rage" which is a nice disclaimer for me lol

10) how do you feel about travelling alone? do you think you’d enjoy a trip abroad with only yourself for company? and where do you most want to go? -- i love traveling alone, in fact, for the most part prefer it. like yeah sure there are things that are better done with a group or a partner, but depending on how you travel you can find these too. length of travel is also a big factor. the month i spent backpacking around europe was wonderful, but it got lonely sometimes and it's also hard to have no one to relate to about the things you experienced abroad back home. however ngl i am low-key half dreading this family reunion trip i have coming up this summer, since i have a fractured and estranged relationship with some of these ppl, but even the road trip with my mom i had last year was good for what it was. nice to spend time with her and all, but truthfully not my preference. my current dream trip is to hike the Faroe Islands. by myself. like this is all i want tbh: so i’d fly into copenhagen for a few days, and then travel to Jutland and take a ferry to Faroe, hike the islands for two weeks at least, and then catch the ferry to iceland. take the road up along the north side of the island and just really take my time with seeing the country.

All the freaks come out at night....

Ok, so I’m posting this for @gettingaphdinlarry @elusivelilme @imalouislouie && @speciiial-kay . These folks saw my post last night, so I wanted to give you context. It’s kind of a long one but here we go.

Last night, my kid && I had tickets to go watch “The Nightmare Before Christmas” in 4D @ El Capitan Theater on Hollywood && Highland. What we didn’t know was that Linkin Park was performing a memorial to Chester at the Hollywood Bowl. Traffic was horrible. So, I had to circumvent that issue && took a side street, got there a bit late to the gig && well, I knew that going back home I was going to try to go back through Highland assuming that the traffic would be gone by the time we came out.

The movie is done && I noticed a bit of traffic, so I treated my kid to some pizza && watched the Astros take Game 3 in the meantime. We finally get to our car && my kid is knocking the fuck out. I pull out && apparently forget to turn on my headlights in the chaos of making sure we put all our souvenirs (Nightmare Before Xmas goodies we got from the theater && that we bought too) in order while my kid was fighting sleep. I finally head to the street && a car in front of me is acting erratically. I notice the driver trying to tell me something. Then, he literally stops in the middle of traffic, opens his door && steps out && makes these hand motions that remind me of “Twinkle, twinkle little star”. I go around his car && then he yells, “You have your headlights off!”

I immediately realize that I do && turn them on, thanking him profusely as I do because he went through a lot of trouble to save my ass. Anyhow, so he gets back into his car && I turn on my headlights && we proceed east on Highland. I noticed that there was still some traffic because the lanes in front of Hollywood Bowl have been coned off && there are food trucks && just a slight mess. Well, I hate driving at night because the bright headlights bug me, so I don’t know wtf happened behind me but all I heard was a loud honk. I try to assess the situation from my sideview mirrors && rearview mirror. I noticed that a Flex model vehicle is crossing traffic behind me (coming from one of the small perpendicular streets) to head on west on Highland. I’m assuming the cars behind me left a gap so the Flex could cut across traffic to go to their end. However, I notice another car who is going down the coned off lane trying to cut into the traffic && head east with us. Obviously, the Flex drivier was pissed that this other car decided to nearly ram themselves onto them, especially because the other vehicle (I’m calling it a sedan) was an asshole && cut ahead of everyone else sitting in traffic by racing up the coned off lane.

Ok, so that’s what I saw. Mind you, traffic is still a bit tangled && I got some breathing room, so I moved forward. All of a sudden, there’s a gap behind me && I noticed the sedan trying to move along until I hear the screeching burning rubber of tires. I fully turn my head to my left && the fkn Flex is fucking doing a donut && turns around toward our end instead of going east on Highland. Then, the Flex accelerates quite rapidly in front of the Sedan && cuts them completely off, even going onto the other lane. So, imagine a car horizontally blocking off two vertical lanes of traffic. Then, the fkn driver && the fkn passenger get off the Flex. I can tell all of this is happening because I can vaguely distinguish the shadows on the floor since the headlights are too bright for me to discern anything else.

When I realize how road rage affected the Flex, I looked in front of me && thankfully there was about to get some breathing room because I noticed that the light right in front of the Hollywood Bowl museum is about to turn green. So, while I’m focusing on that, idk wtf is going on with the Flex && the sedan but I hear loud voices (I’m guessing the Flex ppl are yelling at the sedan now that they’re out of their vehicle) && I hear the sound of human contact hitting the vehicle. I’m assuming that the angry Flex are like kicking or hitting the sedan because earlier that night, I saw pedestrians hitting cars that were ignoring the yield signs for pedestrians on Hollywood outside of El Capitan && calling them all sorts of names for nearly running people over.

Ok, back to this story. So, I hear what sounds like a road rage altercation (idk if the sedan reacted, I doubt it) && then I hear a gunshot or what sounds like a gunshot. All I fkn know was “get the fuck out of here!” && I stepped on it && literally flew onto the 101 North entrance. Guess who was behind me? The fkn Flex. Idk how it caught up or wtf happened but I noticed that the Flex is now tailing me. So, I start switching lanes && the Flex is mirroring my moves. Now, idk if they think I was the one shooting a gun && then trying to high-tail it out of there or if they’re the ones who did it && are trying to scare me. I drove all the way from Hollywood to the 170 fwy && I get off by my hood literally speeding && burning rubber because I need to get these fuckers off my ass.

I luckily was fast enough to beat the oncoming traffic coming out of my exit, so I immediately jump onto Roscoe Blvd && leave the Flex waiting behind me for Roscoe to clear up so they can join. There are apartments literally coming out of the fwy exit, so my ass fkn drove super fast into the opening of their parking structure && I made it my business to turn off my headlights from the moment I got off the fwy exit till the apartment parking structure. My kid woke up the moment I hit the brakes. I turned off my car && thank baby jesus that our broke ass neighborhood refuses to have functioning street lights because I was covered in complete darkness. I didn’t even turn around to see if the Flex drove down Roscoe or what.

My kid wakes up notices that we’re not home && I decide to turn on the car && slowly try to turn my car around to come out of the apartment. When we do, I don’t take any chances. I literally take all the smaller streets to my house, which is like 5 mins from where I am. I finally get home && that was that. Fkn crazy drivers && their egos. It’s amazing how quickly shit escalates when people refuse to let go of their ego. That fkn Flex was a lunatic. I come home && tell only my brother && he’s laughing his ass off, of course, && his only reply, “Did you get their plates?”

Are you kidding me!? They’re trying to kill me && you think I’m going to play photographer in the meantime!? No! So, yeah.... that was my evening.

RE: The Parable of the Two Sons - Part 2.1,2,3 [Fleeing the Vineyard]

EXPLORATION: 1 Kings 19:1-15

So when we meet Elijah in CH19, it’s after a lot of stressful events in his life.

He’s doing a lot of travelling; He’s having to deliver a lot of bad news to a king; He’s killing people; & He’s running for his life. ________________________________________________________

Now let’s put ourselves in Elijah’s sandals, as we read the first 15 verses:

1 Kings 19:1-15 | Now Ahab told Jezebel everything that Elijah had done & how he had killed all the prophets w/ the sword. So Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “May the gods deal w/ me, & ever so severely, if by this time tomorrow I do not make your life like the lives of those you killed!”

And Elijah was afraid & ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there, while he himself traveled on a day’s journey into the wilderness.

He sat down under a broom tree & prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, LORD,” he said. “Take my life, for I am no better than my fathers.” Then he lay down under the broom tree & fell asleep.

Suddenly an angel touched him & said, “Get up & eat.” And he looked around, & there by his head was a cake of bread baked over hot coals, & a jar of water. So he ate & drank & lay down again.

A second time the angel of the LORD returned & touched him, saying, “Get up & eat, or the journey will be too much for you.” So he got up & ate & drank.

And strengthened by that food, he walked forty days & forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God.

There Elijah entered a cave & spent the night. And the word of the LORD came to him, saying, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” “I have been very zealous for the LORD, the God of Hosts,” he replied, “but the Israelites have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, & killed Your prophets w/ the sword. I am the only one left, & they are seeking my life as well.”

Then the LORD said, “Go out & stand on the mountain before the LORD. Behold, the LORD is about to pass by.”

And a great & mighty wind tore into the mountains & shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake there was a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a still, small voice. When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak & went out & stood at the mouth of the cave.

Suddenly a voice came to him & said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

“I have been very zealous for the LORD, the God of Hosts,” he replied, “but the Israelites have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, & killed Your prophets w/ the sword. I am the only one left, & they are seeking my life as well.” Then the LORD said to him, “Go back by the way you came, to the Desert of Damascus. When you arrive, you are to anoint Hazael as king over Aram.

PURPOSE: So as we said, we’re going to tie this portion of Scripture with the passage about going to work in the vineyard.

So we see from the previous 2 chapters that Elijah has been called to go work in the vineyard. In these 15 verses, I want to divide into 3 main sections.

In the first 6 verses we see Elijah fleeing the vineyard; We pick-up where Ahab catches up w/ Elijah in Jezreel. Notice how Ahab never tells his wife about the fire from heaven or how the GOD of Israel won the battle. Jezebel sends a msg to Elijah that basically says: “You’re next.” Now remember we’re wearing Elijah’s sandals right now. - We just ran a marathon, after killing 450 ppl. - Before we even have a chance to kick back & relax for a minute after this, we’re told we’re going to die. We have 24hrs to live. So what’s a natural rxn to this kind of news? Elijah was afraid. Again he goes on another long journey, over 100km, which shows how strong the fear was. After a marathon I don’t think I could take another step, let alone another 100km. It shows the kind of power this queen had. Elijah really feared for his life, so he runs. Leaving his servant at Beersheba, & journeyed another full day into the wilderness. He crawls under a little Juniper tree to die. It kind of reminds me of the story of Jonah right? Frustrated prophet find a tree to hide under..

But we can understand how Elijah comes to be under a tree in the middle of no-where right? “I was minding my own business in Gilead, I didn’t ask anybody to tell me to stop the rain. In fact, I wanted it to rain. Then you want me to go & tell the king it’s not going to rain. Then kill 450 ppl? I understand You did that miracle w/ the widow, up North. I understand You proved Yourself, You brought fire down from heaven. I get it, but seriously, do You know how much I’ve been running around for You the last 3 years? And I don’t even get 24hrs rest before I die?” It’s an overwhelming situation to be in, for Elijah. So Elijah asks GOD to kill him, rather than this nut-job lady. I’m not any better than my forefathers, I mean look at the ppl it’s not like I’ve done anything positive. It’s just been negative/failure/running/stress.

Angel of the LORD is sent to Elijah w/ food. Elijah wakes, looks around & sees food. He doesn’t ask who prepared this? Remember he’s in the middle of no-where. It looks like he assumed he just woke-up because of the delicious aroma. Maybe GOD was giving him a chance to realize: OK I’ve got to go do something. But no, he wakes up & eats then falls asleep again.

The angel tries again.

OBSERVATION: The 1st 6 verses Elijah is fleeing away from the vineyard. Then the next 6 verses, we see how the Master of the vineyard pursues Elijah. Elijah was asked to go to the vineyard, & as we see the situation: he’s saying “No chance!” He gave up, but a wonderful thing happens.

GOD makes Elijah a 2nd meal.

At this point in time, GOD could've said, “You know what? I can’t use this guy anymore. He’s completely lost it & given up. I dropped him food out of no where in the middle of no where; & he still falls asleep.”

But GOD doesn’t do that.

GOD gives Elijah a 2nd chance, & gives him some more food. So angel again wakes him up & says: “Eat bc journey is too great for you.”

Elijah wakes eats & travels 40d to Mount Sinai. Remember Elijah’s been called to be a prophet of Israel, & now he’s in a desert the south of Israel.

The vineyard GOD called him to is North. But where does he go? South. He’s in motion, but he’s still not going to the vineyard.

Elijah returns to Sinai, where GOD met w/ Moses & gave the law to Moses. What does he do there? Goes to sleep.

IMAGINE: Elijah’s diatribe to GOD in this sacred place.

LORD, You revealed Yourself to the people in this very place. You gave us the law here, & taught us how to live. Why is this happening? Where are the ppl not following You? What happened here?

I can imagine him laying there frustrated, angry, confused. And that is when the LORD appears to him.

BOOM! You’re at your lowest point, & I’m going to find you in that hole. And I’m going to speak to you there.

GOD says something a little anti-climatic: “What are you doing here?”

“What are you doing sleeping in a hole in the Sinai?” “What are you doing?”

Elijah answers Him: “You don’t understand. I have been so passionate for You. I’ve done everything You’ve asked me to do. I’ve run around this country. I’ve delivered bad news to the king. I’ve used these hands to kill 450 ppl. I’m running for my life. Everything You’ve asked me to do, I’ve done it. But what’s the result?

The sons of Israel have forsaken Your covenant (v.10).”

NOTICE: He leads w/ the word covenant because that’s what happened in this very spot! You remember GOD, here at Sinai You gave a covenant to the ppl.

They forsook Your covenant.

They took Your altars & destroyed those.

They’ve killed Your prophets. In fact, I’m the only one left!

Now they want to kill me too.

It’s interesting that he says all these things, bc he just killed a bunch of ppl of Baal by the sword right? If you look back at 1 Kings 18:13, there are actually 100 prophets of the LORD still around.

He’s not really alone.

But you can see how influenced/frustrated he is by how dramatic he’s being. I’m the only one left.

Verse 11, GOD tells Elijah to go outside to stand on the mountain of the LORD. Because the LORD is going to meet him physically (typhoon/earthquake/fire).

But Elijah didn’t move until he heard this gentle voice. ________________________________________________________

OBSERVATION: So this is where we see the turn in Elijah’s thinking.

v.1-6 Fleeing the vineyard,

v.7-12 Elijah is being pursued by the Master of the vineyard, in his hole;

v.13-onward Elijah returns to the vineyard.

This is the moment, if we’re comparing it to the parable:

Where he said, “No!” but then he regrets it & starts to go back..

NOTE: Let’s take a moment to appreciate how GOD is approaching Elijah.

The middle guy (forget his name) said leave something in the backseat that you can't go without so you have to go back there and then you'll see the kids. What is so sad is that a phone or backpack would be considered my important than the children. It's tragic and I don't think the guy should go to prison (he will be forever punishing himself) but people need to put more priority on their kids than a phone. Also, learn how to drive. I wouldn't be able to forget the kids because I use my rear view mirror all the time -- I see the backseat and someone driving properly would see the backseat and the car seats.

So, if I can prove no intent and my kids died because I forgot about them for 8 hours while I'm at work, no charges but........If I lock the kids in the car for a couple minutes to grab my dry cleaning and they don't die or suffer any physical trauma, I should be charged ?

I'm not saying locking the kids in the car with the motor and AC running is acceptable, I'm simply saying why charge the case that caused no harm and not charge the case that resulted in death ? Essentially, your charging some one for what "might" have happened and not charging someone for something (death) that actually happened.

Do the terms "gross negligence" and "extreme carelessness" ring a bell ?
