As a diehard Byler, I personally haven't cared about the Stranger Things reddit "worst ship" poll going on (and I'm sure many of you feel the same way). I have found it silly how worked up people seem over there because people are *checks notes* um... voting. In the public poll. Many times they're even voting in line with what the comments want (so in agreement with the redditors) but somehow having a shared opinion is... unionizing? Idk lmao it's just very funny to me!!! (Especially because I honestly think the current final 4 make the most sense.)
That being said, I have to admit that I'm lowkey excited to FINALLY vote Jancy out. Praying it is their time to go. 🙌
(I promise I don't hate Nancy/Jonathan/or Steve. My jumbled thoughts are in the tags, please ignore any typos I noticed later and was too lazy to fix.)

AHAHAHA.
the episode titles of the first 6 episodes just leaked, and GUESS WHAT?
there's not a single mention of byler in any of them. HAHA.
because byler will NEVER happen!
ONCE AGAIN, YOU DELUSIONAL BYLERS HAVE LOST.
"b-b-b-but byler tumblr told me 5x05 would be called "the paladin and the cleric" and would end with a byler kiss 🥺 i thought-"
LMFAOOO. you thought wrong!
the duffers really are gonna humble you good when S5 comes out 🤣
you keep losing, and we love to see it.
BYLER IS BONES! AHAHAHA!
I’m not sure I believe the new leaked episode titles until further confirmation/clarification (I’m not much of a believer in “leaks” to begin with), but either way, this is an exceptionally silly ask even by Melvin hate anon standards.
Since when have episode titles explicitly referenced ships before??? And there’s no mention of M11 either? Or any other ship? So by that “logic,” none of them are happening. M11 bones. Jopper bones. Lumax bones. Jancy bones. Be serious for even one second. 🙄
The Paladin and the Cleric was always just a fun episode title idea. I don’t think anyone was married to it, what? 😭 I personally never believed it would be an actual title cause that seems way too on the nose to be a thing. Most episode titles only make sense in context.
And beyond that, I’d say that if these titles end up being true, there actually are some… interesting titles like Sorcerer and The Vanishing of ____ Wheeler that make me go 🤔 and set off my Byler spidey signals. And we still don’t have the final two possible episode titles.
The fact that you think Bylers are sheep who are easily swayed & controlled by what “Byler Tumblr” says instead of fans watching the show and coming to their own conclusions 💀
No one “lost” or “won” anything. You made up a strawman Byler in your head and then laughed at the strawman you created, which makes you the joke. And it also makes you sound super immature and silly. Middle school ahh logic. This ask makes no sense, and I’m only answering it because I’m baffled by it.

I’m someone who HATES getting my hopes up and always keeps my expectations low but it’s so hard to do that when it comes to Byler. I went into season 4 as a GA member. I always knew Will was gay since season 1 and even felt like he might’ve had a crush on Mike since season 2. I was positive he had feelings for Mike since season 3. Season 4 ended up confirming everything I suspected. As for Mike, I did think he liked El in seasons 1 and 2. I even thought Mileven were cute in those seasons. Then season 3 happened and made me realize I thought Mileven was cute because I hadn’t actually witnessed them in a relationship. Their relationship just annoyed me and confused the hell out of me. It wasn’t a healthy relationship at all. Mike seemed like a completely different person, like he was pretending to be someone else. Their breakup made me so happy and then when they got back together at the end of the season I was confused and annoyed all over again. Then season 4 happened and seeing the way Mike was without El in Hawkins, seeing him go back to being the nerd I knew and loved and playing DnD again, that made me so happy. Then he went to California to visit El and Will. Once again pretending to be something that he wasn’t while around El and acting extremely weird around Will. Will clearly had feelings for Mike but acted totally fine and normal around him. The boy was beaming and so happy to see him and give him a hug. Mike was the one acting weird around Will. Why? Based on the letter El wrote to Mike you’d think Will would be the one to act weird and awkward but it was the other way around. That airport scene made me start thinking that maybe possibly Mike liked Will beyond just platonically. Will and Mike did always seem to have a deeper friendship to me. Mike always acted differently around Will compared to Lucas and Dustin. Plus when Mike was in a romantic relationship with El, he never seemed to be his authentic self to me. I then thought I was probably just reading too much into things but the more scenes I watched of Mike and El along with scenes of Mike and Will, the more I thought that there was no way that the writers of this show actually want me to want Mike and El together. If so, why are they writing them so terribly? They write Jopper, Jancy, and Lumax so well so what the hell are they doing with Mileven? Why’d they make Will have feelings for Mike and are making me want those two to be together instead? Why are the writers having Mike be his most authentic, vulnerable self with Will? What is going on here? If they want me to root for Mileven instead then they’re doing the absolute worst job in making me want them as a couple since season 3. Season 4 made me one hundred percent ship Byler and I found out that I definitely wasn’t the only one who felt that way after watching season 4. By the way, my sister can’t stand Mileven either and would much rather have Byler be a couple as well. So yeah, the writers screwed up big time if they weren’t planning on this reaction. Season 4 and Byler is what really got me into Stranger Things beyond just a casual viewer. Will is my favorite character and all I want is for that boy to finally get happiness and love. He’s just been nonstop suffering the entire time. Why make him in love with Mike if Byler isn’t going to happen? Just so he could suffer more? Wow talk about terrible writing for their only gay character.

i don't ship stancy, im mostly indifferent to it, but i really don't get the lengths some anti-stancies, nancy stans (especially the ones that are massively anti steve), or r*nance shippers go to to discredit the stuff that happened in s4
"theyve been broken up for years" theyve been broken up for less than 18 months. Early November 84- late march 86 is about 17 months. Less than a year and a half. That's not long enough to qualify for the plural of "years". Saying that they've been broken up for years makes it seem like steve's in his 20s or 30s and is still pining over 'the one that got away' from high school. not a teenager that still has feelings for someone he's been broken up with for less than two years. its implied that nancy was his first 'serious' relationship. and based on what we know of his dating history post s2, his only serious relationship. its not unusual for there to still be some feelings there.
"steve wants to force nancy to have six kids even though she doesn't want kids/ a family." first nancy never said she didn't want kids/ a family, shes said she doesn't want to turn into her parents. steve never said he wanted nancy to birth six kids for him. he said he had a dream of having five or six kids and that nancy was there beside him. the number of kids doesn't matter. its him saying that he wants kids and to be a present dad. he wants a family and also doesn't want to turn into his parents, as its heavily implied that he's an only child with not great parents. Nancy said his dream sounded nice other than the six kids part. a more manageable number like maybe three kids could be the balance that would work for them.
"steve tried to get nancy to cheat on Jonathan despite knowing she was happy in their relationship." steve confessed his feelings to her in a life or death situation, after shed been showing some signs of being interested. he never said he wanted her to leave jonathan or that he expected her to just jump into his arms. he said he still had feelings for her in a high stress situation. and much of jancy's relationship in s4 doesn't read as happy. they've been together for 16-17 months, and almost half of that they've been in an ldr and they've had communication issues since before jonathan moved away.
sorry for they longs ask this is just something that's bugging me because i keep seeing this in the steve tag
i truly think so many anti stancies just hate steve, and that’s why all of their “explanations” just try to make steve look bad.
like saying it’s been years since they broke up. it’s been about a year and a half! and like you said, it’s pretty much his only serious relationship. according to joe keery, she’s the first girl to really listen to him. and he hasn’t had someone (romantically) like that since. steve was nancy’s first love (again, according to natalia). it wasn’t just some short thing. it was a serious relationship at a very emotional time.
also, i personally doubt that steve’s spent that year just pining for nancy, but they’re in a life and death situation, and i think all those feelings they left behind just came rushing back. they never truly got closure. it’s natural that being together, and fighting side by side and depending on each other would make everything between them come to the surface.
ugh the six kid thing is the bane of my existence (again, people use it to try to make steve seem weird, and pushy, and demanding). it’s so clearly a reference to the party lmao. like you said, nancy never said she doesn’t want kids, she said she doesn’t want to be stuck in a miserable relationship because that’s what everyone expects (which sounds more like s4 jancy tbh). and the crucial part of steve’s confession is that nancy is the most important part. not the kids. not the travelling. but nancy by his side. what matters to steve is that there’s love. which is what’s important to nancy too.
(and yeah. they ain’t having six kids LMAO)
yes!!! can people not confess feelings anymore without being accused of homewrecking two teenagers lol? he never said he wants them broken up. he thinks he may die!!! he wants it off his chest!!! nancy was, imo, the first to start the flirting, and steve figured… why not!
honestly couldn’t have said this all better myself.

I’m not gonna lie to y’all, Will being gay and in love with Mike WAS a plot twist to me back when I was a GA last year. Will was (and still is) my favourite character but I didn’t pay much attention to anything besides the supernatural plot. I didn’t notice any queer coding, I never saw any clues because I just didn’t realise that’s where the writers were going with their story. I didn’t think about it at all until Will lowkey rejected that girl in his class. Even then I just thought nothing of it, just that he probably didn’t like her like that. All I thought of Mileven was that they were supposed to be that relatable teenage relationship you were in for like a few months or whatever bc it was fun, I totally didn’t think anyone was ever meant to take them seriously — I thought their relationship was some comedic relief or something after S3
And looking back, it was so obvious I just didn’t pay attention to it all because it’s not what I watched Stranger Things for. After I realised Will had feelings for Mike, it’s like everything between them finally clicked and I realised why they were always fighting over their friendship and why Mike was always staring at Will and I realised all those close ups of Will staring back at Mike in S4 wasn’t just worry, it was pining. And then Mike was doing it back and then all of Mike’s staring at Will from past seasons clicked in my brain as pining too
After all these little bits of information all came together in my head, I actually thought it was like some mutual understanding that Mike obviously felt the same about Will otherwise they had no reason to direct or write this plot into the story. So I finished ST just casually thinking that yeah, Mike and Will would work out their feelings together next season
It wasn’t until I accidentally came across some youtube recommendation about “why Mike wheeler is gay” monthssss later that I found out not everyone believes in Mike and Will being endgame. Before that I just thought it was a given, just like how I was surprised to find out Jancy was also being doubted by people. For me, even as a GA who was definitely media illiterate, I just assumed Mike and Will were endgame and Jancy was undoubtedly endgame
Then one video lead to another and I learned the ship name and I made a tumblr and now suddenly I’m not GA and I believe more than ever that those two are both equally in love and El doesn’t need Mike

one thing about me is that i will always and forever be a stoncy girly. i occasionally rb posts about them but i'm mainyl involved in the byler fandom atm so i don't talk ab them as much as i want to. anyways
stoncy is really interesting to think about particularly considering where things are in canon for the three of them right now. so, firstly, my thoughts on that:
i am 100% rooting for jancy endgame in-show. i'm not a fan of love triangles (hence why i started shipping stoncy in the first place, they all have chemistry n i think they should all kiss each other at the exact same time) but up until s4 there was no reason to think that jancy wouldn't be endgame, and honestly i'm upset that the writers brought stancy back in, considering that steve's s3 arc was all about him learning he doesn't need romantic love to fulfill his life, and what he and nancy each want in life simply are not compatible. jancy r iconic. jancy r goals. jancy had a whole speech in s4 talking about all the things they love about the other. although they've hit a slight rough patch due to jonathan's conflicting desires in supporting her goals while also being there for his family which has historically needed a lot of his support, they just need to get on the same page about this. they WILL prevail i KNOW this i TRUST
okay, lark, you say. if ur so obsessed with jancy endgame then why stoncy at all? AND I WILL TELL YOU WHY.
it all comes down to stonathan. also shoutout to @messrsbyler for championing the stonathan agenda lately. we should all attempt to live up to your example. SO TRUE.
so. post-s1 era in-show. or, honestly, u can rework this and make it fit at any point in the timeline. but anyways: nancy's with steve, they r trying and somewhat struggling to make it work (though they did last an entire YEAR so kudos for that ig). nancy VERY obviously has feelings for jonathan, who hangs out with her sometimes but is generally avoiding both of them. and honestly? steve thinks jonathan's pretty cool too. and, like, he spent a while treating jonathan like shit so he should probably try and make it up to him. right??? AND THEN THEY KISS.
no, but actually: steve's the type not to even realize that he's actually in love with jonathan. he's like, well, nancy loves him, and i love nancy, so... (that's the transitive property, right? i don't remember anything from 5th grade math class.) he doesn't even realize it's gay of him to feel that way. (NOTE: stoncy r bi4bi4bi and you WILL NOT be changing my mind.) if u extend the timeline to post-s3, robin might be able to help him w this LOL, i've read a really good fic or two where that's the case
on the other side, i feel like jonathan would have an easier time accepting his feeling, especially now that steve is making an effort to make friends with him. not to digress about the byers brothers but i'm gonna. when it comes to accepting his bisexuality jonathan doesn't have nearly as much internalized homophobia to deal with as will does regarding being gay. will has really internalized all of the things lonnie/the bullies have said about him, whereas jonathan is openly defiant of them. but in true byers fashion, he's not gonna make a move about it.
honestly i'm inclined to say that nancy, the girlboss that she is, (perhaps along with robin, again, if the timeline goes later) is the one to witness stonathan making goo-goo eyes at each other and she's like. you know what. this Might Actually solve 90% of my problems. so SHE'S the one who prompts them into it. but to be completely honest all three of them are so completely dramatic about everything so i could even see it all coming down to robin and maybe argyle to force them to get their shit together 😆
this is honestly just one way that it could go down, i've read a lot of different iterations and i love them all.

For Byler to happen in s5, the build-up on Mike's part should have also started in s4 and not him ending the season with a declaration of love for his girlfriend. (Even if you argue he wasn't genuine, which makes it kinda fucked up tbh, El still thinks Mike loves her.) Because for the ship to make sense, the Mileven breakup needs to be handled gracefully. (Aka not like Stancy and Byler shouldn't start like Jancy).
El is still our main girl and deserves to be treated with respect here. Making Mike emotionally cheat on her with her own brother is just wrong and cruel. Not to forget, Will also loves El. If you think he would intentionally hurt her and just get with her ex, you don't understand his character. Like for him family is everything, friendship is everything. It would kill him to hurt her. And Mike wouldn't want to intentionally hurt El as well. There is such a messiness that comes along with Byler, I fear the show doesn't have much time to handle it with care.
I'm a sucker for friends to lover, but because they set up Mileven and both Mike and Will care about El deeply, I just don't think Byler is worth jeopardizing all of it? Like Mileven is cute, idc, it doesn't mean they're endgame forever they're 14, but making Will date Mike shortly after is going to hurt El. And don't pretend El would be okay and happy she clearly loves Mike and it would devaste her, plus in s2 we can see her jealous side she doesn't play around. In the end, because all three characters are so interwoven, nobody would be truly happy. Will wouldn't be elated because of El, El would be unhappy because her brother betrayed her, and Mike would hate himself for destroying the WillEl sibling bond.
For me, Will's happy end is coming out to his friends and being accepted by them. Idk about Mike if he actually has feelings for guys. It's vague, but he also should live his true self. And for El, I just want her to be happy and alive and that she gets to experience all the things she wants.
Confession #108
I agree. I definitely think Will's happy ending would be accepting himself and coming out to his best friends, who also would accept and love him, too. I truly think that's where the story is going. I could be wrong, but I just can't see how Mike and Will getting together wouldn't be a messy situation for everyone. Like you said, everyone gets hurt in the end. I also don't think Mike likes Will. I think a lot of his actions and expressions have relayed that he knows Will likes him, but he doesn't reciprocate those feelings and just has no idea how to really start that conversation. If the writers wanted to make Byler endgame, they would have set it up better, number one, and number two, long before season five. You don't have Mike confess his love for El in season 4 if you're going to make Byler endgame in season 5. They would have continued separating El and Mike to build Mike and Will's bond. Except...the writers did the total opposite and brought El and Mike closer together. I don't really see how you can make a solid Byler endgame that the audience would be fans of. Realistically, the GA would be lost and confused because it would seem almost out of the blue.

alright time to write an essay detailing whatever yaoi has done to my girl nancy wheeler. so like, even when it comes to yaoi shippers nancy has had stonathan, harringrove, AND steddie over four seasons with steddie already having massive popularity + the other shippers, wheras thankfully eleven only has to deal with byler shippers when it comes to the victimization. but not to diminish eleven any more because she has def gone through it in fandom, im going to get into nancy's stuff: you will notice all three ships she supposedly gets in the way of (ignoring jargyle because the shippers are chill in my experience) involve steve harrington, AKA the most popular character if i had to guess and the white boy of the month. see, they were dating at one point in s1 and s2. the breakup was messy. like he kinda was complicit in her slutshaming at one point and didnt let her grieve her dead best friend properly and she ambiguously (as in nobody can fucking decide when the break up was) cheated on him so yeah. messy. mutually. if not more on steve's side given he was a bit of an asshole in s1-2 but gets better. yadda yadda fast forward to harringrove in particular, AKA steve x the guy who attacked a black child and abused his younger sibling (and im not attacking anyone thats just. what happened). basically 90% of them try to convince people nancy is abusive for the two arguments that occurred and is a slut and privileged (never mind steve being probably the most well off member of the main cast + hes a white guy in the 80s) blah blah blah. also ironic they call her abusive OFTEN when billy (one half of harringrove) kinda like threatens his sister max and breaks her things and otherwise abuses her Often. but yeah. they hate her for breaking his heart. they hate her for getting in the wya of their ship possibly. they hate her in general. add that to the general fandom misogyny and suddenly a large number of people are writing essays about how much they hate her and how she's a piece of shit, actually. fast forward to s4 and steddie and a new problem arises: steddie shippers keep flooding her character and ship tags with primarily steddie. so now your options regarding her are mlm ships and mlm shippers shitting on her. also keep in mind there is now more content for half of that ship, a guy who shows up for an hour and dies in the same season, than nancy, a mc. and if you like nancy ships like jancy or ronance, too bad those tags are flooded as well. as in someone did analytics in august for ronance i think and at one point the majority of main pairings in the ronance ao3 tags itself was steddie. either way both ships usually end up as side ships or bait into a steddie centric fic or tumblr post. or nancy ends up third wheeling and getting them together. as a nice bonus (not really) recently steddie shippers have decided that they too hate nancy and have entire posts and common plots (i have seen tumblr ficlets/hc's and people discussing this as a common trope for steddie fics on ao3) about how nancy was a horrible person who damaged steve's self esteem and ability to be in a relationship or something from a break up, as if the relationship wasnt mutually harmful and compounded by nancy's whole dead best and possibly only friend thing. and whoops for ships like ronance that isnt allowed either because steve's friend isn't allowed to interact with his ex despite the fact that said friend literally said he was an ass in the s1-2 timeline. all of this making it impossible to find any positive content without it being interrupted for a character who, if i remember correctly, has almost as much screentime as eleven (and eleven at least has popular fan content and other ships that dont somehow loop around to byler/mike). and whats worse is that while canon doesnt have yaoi victimization it does have heteronormative bullshit in which she is forced into a love triangle with the same guys TWO TIMES. she literally cant win so let her win a poll maybe also sorry this is super fucking long <3
Whoooo Nancy

i’m super bored so i’m gonna rate stranger things ships! buckle in folks, let’s get into it😎
•mileven—4/10•
it’s ok ig. i’m not like a hater of it? but it’s definitely not a great ship. no hate to mileven stans, it’s just not for me. i liked them in season 1 and 2, but it got toxic and weird in season 3 and season 4 solidified my disdain for it. i think mike needs to do some self-reflection (maybe discover a few things about himself—michael wheeler i know what you are) and i think el needs to become her own person outside of her relationship with him. i wholeheartedly support the el/mike exes-to-besties agenda though!
•jopper—8/10•
they’re so cute oml, i shipped them since season 1 and their build-up and eventual payoff was immaculate! i loved their early season tension and their kiss in season 4 was so so good. they fit so well together. they don’t get 10/10 only because a) i LOVED bob and joyce in season 2 more than life and will forever mourn that joyous man and b) i kinda loved the whole single grumpy father figure/lonely teenage daughter dynamic el and hop had.
•lumax—10/10•
this ship. this goddamn ship. the hurt/comfort. the angst. the teasing. the SOULMATISM of it all. seriously, these two are meant for each other. lucas is max’s safe place, her happiest memory and her favourite escape. max is lucas’ sunshine, his wake-up call, his reason to try. i didn’t use to love them, in fact it was only since season 4 that i’ve been such an avid shipper of them but god. they really are the softest. ‘i like talking with you, mad max’ and ‘i’m still here’ and ‘lucas!’ and the notes and the snowball and holy shit i love them sm.
•byler—7/10•
this is with the exception of season 2 byler, which gets 10/10 (‘crazy together’ oh my god). apart from that, i get the hype for it, but i also want the best for my lil ball of fruity sunshine will byers. he is my baby boy and i will protect him. and i just think that mike needs to do some growing up before he’s ready to be with will. also, i’ve never loved mike as a character (again, with the exception of s1 and 2 mike, he was a sweetie) and i think he’d end up hurting will if they got together at this point. in the future, if mike can prove that he’s matured and grown into himself, i will wholeheartedly support this relationship.
•jancy—6/10•
again, it’s ok. i did love them in season 2, but season 1 jonathan was a creep, and season 3 jancy just didn’t do it for me. jonny boy has grown on me over the seasons, but i think everybody moved on from him taking nakey nakey pictures of nancy without her knowledge wayyyyy too quickly. also, they just want different things in life and that’s ok! i do prefer them over stancy, but if i’m honest, i am absolutely a lesbian nancy supporter. the comphet on that woman is insane. so again, like mileven, i am a nancy/jonathan exes-to-besties advocate!
•stancy—4/10•
they were not it in season 4. like, it made me angry that the duffers tried to push it on us again. i did sort of like them in the early seasons, but steve was a jerk and nancy needed to grow into herself and they went their separate ways for the better. steve became a good person and nancy became the strong, independent badass woman we all know and love. i love them as friends and co-babysitters of the kids, but not as lovers. their arcs wouldn’t have happened without their break-up, and they’re both so different as people that getting back together would’ve been like going backwards. steve’s speech about kids in the van made me physically ill with how a) out of character it was and b) how the duffer brothers tried to make it seem like pushing out 6 kids and living the suburban american dream (read: nightmare) was something nancy would want, when she’s spent 3 seasons displaying an obvious disgust for that kind of life. if they get back together in s5 i’ll be throwing something at the tv.
•elmax—9/10•
they. are. so. cute. i love this ship sm, it’s so wholesome and soft. it just works as well—el allows max to explore her own kindness, her own vulnerability, her own ability to care, and max allows el to explore her own identity, what makes her happy, how to be independent. season 3 elmax was superior, but that scene in s4 where they reunite is utterly breathtaking—‘if you touch her again, i will kill you again’ protective gfs!! honestly, if i wasn’t such a lumax shipper i’d be all in for them. as it is, my motto is currently this: max has two hands! one for el and one for lucas :)
•madwheeler—1/10•
no. just no. these two actively dislike each other lmao. max is perpetually annoyed by mike’s existence and mike thinks max is like, the worst. they couldn’t even do enemies to lovers because max would steal mike’s gf in a heartbeat and would probably rather eat glass than kiss michael wheeler. they only get 1 point because finn and sadie have a sweet friendship.
•eddsy—6/10•
they would’ve been cute tbh. and since it’s been discovered that chrissy is actually 18 instead of 16, it’s not a weird one either. when i thought she was 16 i was put off, but now i’m sort of neutral on it. that scene in the woods was very sweet and her and eddie totally could have had the whole popular cheerleader gf/metalhead nerdy bf thing going on. however, it was only one episode they were in together and the ship was never one i was like ‘oh my god i love this’ so. i will say that grace van dien does not deserve the hate she gets for shipping them, especially when joseph quinn gets none of it for the same thing. other than that, it’s not massively awesome but it’s pretty cute.
•willel—0/10•
if you ship this, seek help. they are siblings.
•henclair—4/10•
they could be cute ig, but i just see them as besties. add in the fact that lumax is one of my fav ships and dustin and suzie are super cute and this ship is just sort of meh to me.
•duzie—7/10•
very sweet. nerd gf/geek bf. ‘never-ending story’ was a cultural reset and they’re both icons for it. honestly, not a ship that rocked my world but they are super cute so. 7 points.
•rockie—7/10•
at this point i just want robin to have a gf. just let maya hawke kiss a woman on this show. at first, i was super excited for these 2, but then i saw the way miss buckley looked at nancy wheeler and i was like ‘vickie who?’ (i see you duffer brothers). also, vickie’s whole character felt like a diversity box tick. like she had no originality whatsoever, they just made her a carbon copy of robin which pissed me off. however, i see the potential. i would not be unhappy if they had a fleshed out, well-developed relationship in s5. especially since vickie, a bi girl, is being played by amybeth mcnulty, a bi queen.
•steddie—5/10•
ok. so. i don’t hate this ship. i really don’t. in fact, i’ve written them in some of my ronance fics. i think they could’ve been cute. however. they hype for these two was so overdone and the way people treated them in comparison to more fleshed out, developed dynamics like ronance was really annoying. especially because the majority of steddie shippers are straight women who then deny that ronance could ever happen. the ship itself was ok, but if i’m being realistic, they didn’t have that many scenes together and the fandom of this ship ruined it for me. the fact that the majority of fics in the ronance tag on ao3 are steddie with background ronance really grinds my fucking gears, and the amount of people who are fetishising steddie because they’re both attractive men is just so fucking irritating. overall, not a bad ship but a fairly toxic fandom (not all of you, of course—chill steddie shippers are cool, but some of y’all, jesus christ)
•harringrove—1/10•
awful, awful ship. no. don’t ship steve with the racist abuser just because they’re both semi-attractive white men. only gets a point because of joe keery’s fruity (not assuming his sexuality, just joking about his actions) behaviour towards dacre montgomery.
•stobin—0/10•
robin buckley. is. a LESBIAN. she’s GAY. SHE LIKES WOMEN AND WOMEN ONLY. if you ship these two romantically, i can only assume you’re a homophobic asshole who deserves sand thrown in their eyes. unapologetically, if you ship steve and robin as a couple, i hope you slip in the shower, motherfucker.
•stonathan—2/10•
i mean, it’s not the worst??? but again, i think it’s people shipping them just because they’re two white men who talked to each other. like, did y’all forget that steve literally called jonathan a slur? and that they tried to beat the shit out of each other? i don’t hate it the way i hate harringrove, but it’s so so unlikely and i’d be so puzzled if it ever was even hinted at.
•murray/alexei—6/10•
these two would’ve been cute. and i do think murray is gay, and probably did have a little thing for alexei. i don’t know about alexei but they were definitely cute friends. and i was so betrayed and upset by his death. a fairly good ship, no complaints from me.
and finally…
•ronance—1284028/10😌🥹😍•
the best ship. for nancy, for robin, for the show, for ever. they mean the world to me. they are the world to me. if i had one wish, it would be for ronance to be canon. they make me so fucking emotional because i want what they have. as someone who so heavily relates to robin (chaotic lonely lesbian who is desperate for love but feels she may never be loved as much as she loves, possibly autistic and feels destined to be an annoyance to those around her) i want a nancy. i want to be loved in my entirety. and those two, they get each other. sure, robin irritated nancy at first and they didn’t get on, but they grew. nancy, who’s never had anyone listen to her and believe in her with such intent, finds robin, who is more than willing to, who thinks ‘nancy’s a genius’ and would follow her anywhere. robin, who thinks all she can ever be is helpless and annoying, finds nancy, who trusts her with her life, who picks her and picks her and keeps picking her, who thinks she’s just as smart as she actually is, who understands her needs and her vulnerabilities and validates her, tells her ‘it’s ok’ and ‘you got this’. these two work in a way no other ship does and they are so undeniably soulmates. they need each other. they want each other. they deserve each other. there’s a reason i write about them so much—holy shit honestly i love them so fucking much.
anyways, that got a lot longer than i thought it would! i hope you guys enjoyed my ramblings haha :)

Tbh? I could not care less about Steddie. Is it cute? Yes, it is. Is it interesting? Yes, of course. I, personally, ship it? No, I don't.
And there's where my problem starts on.
I don't hate Steddie, and I love Eddie Munson with all my heart, but I do hate those shippers who think their ship is somehow the only one allowed to exist. And then, they'll go bullying and calling problematic not only Harringrove shippers but Jancy, Stancy, Eddissy and even Mungrove/Harringroveson shippers too. Like, why? What do you get by doing that?
And I'm not making this about all the shippers. The toxic ones know I'm talking about them so don't make this personal if you don't fit the description.
All my social media is full of Steddie content and, honestly? I don't mind. It's cute, it's amazing. Keep the energy, Steve Harrington does deserve a boyfriend but... Bullying those who seem to be into other shipps that are not Steddie? Not cool. Stop that. You're not better or smarter. Stick to your fandom, to your beliefs and leave those who ship different things alone.
No, Harringrove, Jancy and Stancy are not mid or problematic.
Nor even Eddissy, she was 17 when she died and Eddie was around 19-20. It's not crazy, it's not weird. She was at her senior, and the common age to graduate is 17-18. He repeated 2 years so, depending of the age he had the first time he was a senior, he was around 19-20 when he died too. Stop harassing the shippers AND THE ACTORS. LEAVE GRACE AND JOSEPH ALONE.
And, to end this properly, Mungrove is just as cute as the other ships I mentioned. Harringroveson too. Doesn't matter if they knew each other in canon or not (talking about Mungrove). This is what fiction is all about. So stop it. I'm all about the trope these two, or three, have going on. Steve has two hands, so does Eddie and Billy.

the people in your ask box giving their reasons for not liking ronance is like. yes, you do you, but they are literally proving your point because what is it about a random f/f ship existing that makes people wanna argue against it ??? but yeah the anti ronance tag is truly a wild place.
This response is quite long, hence the read more! I kinda got off track and it goes into a discussion of canon vs headcanon and speaks a bit about Byler too.
If I were to be generous to Ronance antis, I think a lot of people are frustrated that there is a new canon bisexual character who's been introduced to the show but a lot of the fandom are ignoring her for a headcanon. And in general, members of this fandom and Ronance shippers are quite harsh against Rovickie and I don't think they'd be as harsh if it was an m/f pairing. Because it's the only canon gay pairing so far (I know it hasn't happened yet but it clearly will), people are expecting it to be this perfect romance like Jopper or Lumax but in eight minutes of screen time which is just impossible.
However, I think turning this defensiveness of people who ship Ronance is a bit unfair. So far, Vickie is just not an established character; she's barely had any screen time and she exists only to be Robin's girlfriend. At the moment, it feels a bit like pandering/fan service (although a lot of people make that criticism in bad faith because they view queer relationships as inherently woke or political which is bullshit). I can see the potential in the pairing and I guarantee I'll love them by the end of S5, but I've just not seen them interact as much. I am allowed to think that without it being problematic; just because a queer ship is canon representation doesn't mean I have to like it.
I also think it's quite obvious a lot of people in this fandom haven't had any fandom experiences before. A very frequent response I get to shipping Ronance that I don't respond to (because I can't be bothered to reply every time) is that Nancy canonically likes Jonathan and that Robin canonically likes Vickie. Or that there's no proof that Nancy's gay.
The thing is, I'm not shipping Ronance because I think they're going to canonically get together, I ship them because I like their dynamic both hypothetically and in many on screen interactions they had. I just prefer rivals to lovers than two very similar girls (I know talking a lot doesn't make them the same person but it's all we've really seen of Vickie so far) getting together. When I ship a ship, it's not because it's the most canon, it's because it's the best dynamic.
I see this response to people who ship pairings like Will and Lucas where people will get annoyed because they act like Will hypothetically liking someone other than Mike is erasure which is so odd because I doubt anyone shipping that pairing actually thinks it will be canon, they just think it would be an interesting pairing to explore.
Or how when people try to convince you to ship Byler, they try to convince you why it'll be canon and not why it'll be good (I'm not talking about responding to Byler antis who tell you that it won't happen or talking to fellow Byler shippers, Byler proof and analysis is very valuable). This also applies in reverse when an anon tried to prove that Byler won't be canon...in response to me saying I like friends to lovers.
TL;DR: I'm not gonna ship Rovickie over Ronance just because it's the canon queer relationship. I ship based on whatever pairing is the most interesting to me instead of which one is the most attainable. I understand that lots of people like it and I'm cool with that, but sending me long asks explaining that Rovickie/Jancy are canon isn't going to change my mind on Ronance.
Also a lot of Ronance antis are Nancy antis and that's a whole thing that I've responded to before (check my post index under the Ronance section and go to Ronance and boy drama or the follow up or just click the words there).

The fact that a lot of people are being so pressed and homophobic about byler *possibly* being canon when Robin x Vickie are practically canon onscreen already and no one is batting an eye tells me that
1) Straight ppl (and a lot of queer ppl too tbh) don’t take sapphic ships seriously bc there is a culture of literally ignoring lesbians and how special and equally queer wlw love is, so homophobes don’t see it as that much of a problem
and 2) The difference between having a queer ship as part of the main plotline between two crucial main characters, vs having a cute but relatively unrelated side queer pairing just for the sake of giving an LGBTQ character a love interest MATTERS when it comes to representation. There are so. Many. Cishet ppl who claim to be “allies” or just “okay” with the queer community until suddenly it looks like a queer ship between two MAIN CHARACTERS is going to be endgame *instead of the het ship*. A few minutes of screentime for Robin and the character put into the show specifically to be her love interest that showed up a grand total of three scenes in the entire season? Yeah, sure, that’s fine, but as soon as it becomes apparent that one of the main young teenage characters is in love with his best friend who is also a major character might actually be reciprocated? Ppl throw a goddamn FIT.
It is so telling that people are coming up with all of these excuses for why byler could never and shouldn’t happen, and why they’re adamantly against it:
“Mike has to be straight cuz he’s with el!” (bi ppl and comphet exist 🤨)
“It’s just not realistic, they’re just friends it came out of nowhere” (it’s canon that Will’s had feelings for Mike since season one so idk wtf ur talkin abt)
“M*leven is the main ship you’re just delusional” (they’re not tho??Are u forgetting abt lumax? Cuz they got wayy more attention and love in s4 than m*leven did. Also jopper and jancy exist)
“Mike isn’t obligated to like Will back” (literally no one said he was? It’s not that he’s “obligated” it’s just that he’s acting pretty fuckin fruity)
And ofc my personal favorite: “It’s the 80s it’s just not realistic for so many ppl to be gay” (if u rlly think gay ppl didn’t exist in the 80s I beg u to open a proper history book)
Translation? “I simply cannot bring myself to believe that a queer character on a show this big would be essential and well loved enough by the writers and actors to get a happy ending. This show was never stated to be strictly abt the queer experience (as opposed to something like heartstopper) so obviously my het ship will be endgame over the queer one, bc a major endgame relationship couldn’t possibly be queer. That makes me uncomfortable.”
Basically, straight people are getting upset about byler bc they’re used to queer ships being sidelined or just put there for clout.
They’re ALSO just used to seeing the main female protagonist end up in an endgame with a guy, bc god forbid a female MC gets to finish her arc single 🙄
We can acknowledge the difference between a queer side ship with one insignificant character and a queer ship between two major characters that is essential to the plot, while also talking about the fact that Robin and Vickie being relatively ignored both by homophobes AND the fandom is bc sapphic ships tend to get sidelined to mlm ships.
Sincerely,
Your local lesbian byler shipper

st ships as taylor swift albums
a non-comprehensive list by me, an english major and massive taylor fan (big big fan since folklore, in and out since debut)
DISCLAIMER DISCLAIMER: this is just my opinion based on album themes and lyrics! not everyone made it, and i also had a lot of overlap when making my notes. if you disagree, that’s fine! just wanted to combine some things that I love :) also, this is not at all indicative of my opinion on these ships or these albums, if your fav ship got your least fav album or vice versa i apologize!
also this is very very long and i'm not sorry. this is a borderline thesis
🦋 debut/self-titled - byler
Tumblr media
Starting off with a bang. Debut is an album of first. Mostly because it’s the first album, but also through the bright, overly naive idea of a teenager experiencing love, isolation, and heartbreak. Whether it be songs about friendship and growing up like “The Outside,” “A Place in this World,” and “I’m Only Me When I’m With You,” or love and breakup songs like “Cold as You,” “Mary’s Song,” or “Invisible,” Debut perfectly captures the messy, chaotic feelings of being a young teenager and overwhelmed by confusions of growing up.
Key Songs:
“Mary’s Song (Oh My My My)”
“Cold As You”
“Our Song”
“A Place in this World”
“Invisible”
💛fearless (tv) - rockie
Tumblr media
“What about Hey Stephen” this is MY ASSIGNMENT and I’m CORRECT. Taylor stated this album was written over the ages of 16-18, which fits perfectly (ha) in line with the timeline of this.  It’s a mosaic of songs about the bliss and devastation of a teenager learning lessons about life as the fairytale facade about romance begins to crack. While debut is the first, “Fearless” is the more concrete, as the pieces of reality finally start to settle in. It captures all the feelings—the pining, the best first date, and the breakup—that come with a relationship, all wrapped up in a single album.
Key Songs:
“You Belong with Me”
“Fearless”
“Jump Then Fall”
“The Other Side of the Door”
“Untouchable”
🎆speak now (tv) - mileven
Tumblr media
WHY ARE YOU BOOING ME!!!!! I'M RIGHT!!!!!! Anyway, “Speak Now" is two things: in one part, it’s a very fantastical recreation of falling in love, but it is also a deeply personal and heartbreaking account of the reality of losing naivety, even if it doesn’t feel like that. In the foreword for “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)”, Taylor refers to this album Taylor says in her foreword for the original “Speak Now” that we often fear looking back on our lives and regretting times when we didn’t speak up, where we didn’t say “I love you" or apologize. Even though what we say might be too much for some, it’s important to the right person, and that is most crucial of all.
Key Songs:
“Enchanted”
“Better Than Revenge”
“Sparks Fly”
“Ours”
“Superman”
Bonus: “Foolish One” (but for Will re: Mileven)
🧣 red (tv) - jancy (specifically s4)
Tumblr media
Yeah I’m sorry. This is very much Season 4 Jancy, I will add, but regardless. Taylor states in the letter for Red (Taylor’s Version) that the album was a mosaic of a heartbroken person: happy, free, confused, lonely, wild, devastated, euphoric, and tortured by memories of the past. This is not always bad, but it is a natural part of growing up and healing. There are moments of joy, but there are also moments of deep remorse.
Key Songs:
“I Almost Do”
“The Moment I Knew”
“Sad Beautiful Tragic”
“Stay Stay Stay”
“State of Grace"
🏙️1989 - steddie
Tumblr media
Now, now, now. Before you jump down my throat. Hear me out. “1989” is an album of change and growth—literally speaking, as it's the first in a beautiful line of pop albums, but also in terms of moving to a brand new city, taking life head-on, and seeing where the world takes you. Sometimes that could be a snowmobile accident (or vehicular manslaughter, believe what you want), biting back at rumors tossed around, or healing from a past love. Steddie, as a ship, is about reevaluating past biases and changing these biases to grow and find a flourishing relationship beneath the exterior.
Key Songs:
“Out of the Woods”
“I Know Places”
“New Romantics”
“You Are In Love”
“All You Had To Do Was Stay”
Bonus so y’all don’t come from me for not including it: “Style”
🐍 reputation - ronance
Tumblr media
123LGB! Taylor opens her foreword by saying we only know people based on the version of themselves they’ve chosen to present to the world. “reputation,” as a whole, explores the side of the person that isn’t presented to the world, and more so what happens when the world wears them down. Enter “full of surprises, isn’t she?”, and all that came with Ronance’s plot in season 4. These two, who seemingly were against each other, came together in a matter of days and saw through their outward personas.
Key Songs:
“Don’t Blame Me”
“Gorgeous”
“Dress”
“Dancing With Our Hands Tied”
“Getaway Car”
💘lover - lumax
Tumblr media
To be defined by the things we love, not the things we hate. That’s what Taylor says at the end of “Daylight,” and it’s also the core of Lover as an album. A love letter to love. But also, beneath the cotton candy colors and Christmas lights until January, there are deep insecurities. Deep fears of rejection and not being enough, but having your partner there through it all. Finding out that love is not burning red, but golden like daylight.
Key Songs:
“Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince”
“Death By A Thousand Cuts”
“Paper Rings”
“The Archer”
“Afterglow”
🪩folklore - jopper
Tumblr media
I always hesitate to jump and assign “folklore” and “evermore” to ships. That being because these are such rich and complex albums that toe the line between fiction and fact, and seeing as I am trying to avoid repeats, you’re going to have to stick with me. Taylor talks a lot about gossip and legend in the “folklore” foreword, as well as about romances with flaws and fatalities.
Key Songs:
“cardigan”
“the 1”
“peace”
“exile”
“invisible string”
🥂evermore - stancy
Tumblr media
sorry this photo is ass but i wanted to use this scene because god season two stancy is soooooooo evermore
“evermore” was even harder than “folklore” because there’s even less in terms of romance. Yes, there’s “ivy,” “willow,” and “champagne problems,” but this really is an album of healing. Healing is an entirely personal act, so jumping to assign a couple this album felt disingenuous. That said, looking at the overall arcs of what is presented within “evermore,” and the tumultuous back and forth presented, I felt Stancy was most fitting.
Key Songs:
“tolerate it”
“champagne problems”
“long story short”
“gold rush”
“right where you left me”
💎midnights - n/a
Tumblr media
Due to the nature of “Midnights", and the episodic nature of the album, I do not feel it’s fit to classify under a single ship. That said, there are songs that I would assign to ships, so I will assign them as I see fit.  Once again, one per each and this is not at all comprehensive (especially since I omitted songs that have multiple applications).
Assignments:
Snow on the Beach: rockie
Midnight Rain: stancy
Question…?  : jancy
Mastermind: lumax
The Great War: they all get it. Literally all of them.
High Infidelity: ronance (and jancy ish? yall know how the song is)

At this point, I’m inclined to think that the St4ncy ship-tease was written to be (a) maximally flattering to Steve but (b) minimally impactful to Nancy. I suspect that it was included in the first place because love triangles, love them or hate them, drive audience engagement; however, I don’t think Steve and Nancy were ever going to get back together. The ship-teasing is for another reason: making Steve look good.
I say this because I can clearly picture a version of S4 where a St4ncy endgame is a serious possibility, and I might not even totally hate it if the show did right by Jonathan. Here’s what it would look like:
Steve and/or Nancy express some clear interest in each other before Eddie/Robin/Dustin suggested it. Ideally, it would be established that Nancy has been hanging out with Steve and Robin, and that their (especially his) company is a source of joy in her life. At minimum, either Steve needs to be the one to tell Eddie/Robin/Dustin that he still/again has feelings for Nancy, or Nancy needs to actively seek out his company early on in the action of S4. It’s one thing to have a cheerleading section; it’s another if the section seems to have initiated the idea.
Steve and Nancy’s future goals are more aligned. I don’t think this would be super-hard to write. Have Steve explain that he’s working towards a career in a field that matches with his demonstrated skills—teacher or firefighter or (sorry) cop—and have him make some comment about how his dad’s not thrilled but fuck him. Or even have him go, “yeah, I’m staying in Hawkins until Robin graduates, then I’m going to get out, see some of the world, and decide what I’m going to do.” They can bond over looking after the kids but don’t have him mention any babies they might have—that’s just a lot, regardless of Nancy’s feelings about eventually having children. He doesn’t need to be a hard-charging entrepreneur, just show some initiative and not focus so much on procreation.
This kind of relates to the previous point, but there’s less emphasis on Steve developing into a nicer, more accepting character. That’s great for Steve, but Nancy didn’t walk away from their relationship because Steve was mean or prejudiced; it was because they had different approaches to dealing with the past and also she was more attracted to Jonathan. The emphasis should be on how they’re closer to being on the same page re: fighting Vecna. Also, it should be acknowledged that Nancy has changed over the past couple of years since their breakup; she hasn’t been standing still while Steve got his shit together.
The fact that she’s with Jonathan is taken seriously. Steve doesn’t need to go to bat for Jancy—all’s fair in love and war—but he does need to show awareness that it exists (after he starts making cow eyes at her) and display some curiosity about how Nancy feels about that relationship. Nancy, for her part, has to be further along in her maybe-things-won’t-work-out-with-Jonathan journey, or at least let Steve know that she feels conflicted and has to figure things out with Jonathan. When it’s just glances and a pre-battle confession that don’t lead to anything, her existing relationship can be quietly deemphasized, but if it’s serious, that’s a different story.
This is maybe subjective, but I think it would work better if Steve has actually moved on from the Nancy he dated two years before, and now he’s falling in love anew with the person she is now. That’s way more romantic in my book.
Instead, the ship-tease is geared to make Steve look (a) cute and sweet and fun and memeable (like the bulk of the T-websites fandom seems to appreciate) but also (b) a credible wish-fulfillment figure who kicks ass and is attractive to women (like the more Reddit-ish crowd seems to want). To wit:
He can’t be too active in pursuing Nancy or display too much awareness of Jonathan because it makes him look less “wholesome.”
He has to be all about romance and babies because that’s cute while also according him some future status as a husband and father. His career is left tacitly unmentioned, so he could be anything from a stay-at-home dad to a cop—whatever the audience finds most attractive.
The emphasis is on his being a nicer person who cares about children because that’s what the audience loves about him.
He has to have never gotten over Nancy so the audience (most of whom probably have had an unrequited crush or unwanted breakup) can feel a little sorry for him…but not outright pity him, since he’s a badass and a major female character who’s portrayed as intelligent/capable/beautiful at least seems to see him as a viable romantic partner.
In short, he’s trapped by his own popularity, because the writers are going to play it pretty safe with him, lest he lose his appeal. It’s like the Single Female Lawyer episode of Futurama. The Single Female Lawyer can’t get married, because that’s not what people watch for.
Meanwhile, Nancy may think that Steve is a great guy and like how he looks without a shirt, but, between fighting Vecna and and helping Eddie and worrying about her relationship with Jonathan and getting to know Robin and confronting her Barb-related demons and stressing over the Cali Crew’s radio silence, her frisson with him comes off like a pretty minor concern for her. Even if she and Jonathan ultimately break up, I don’t think it’ll be because of Steve—it’ll be because of college.
I could be wrong, of course. Maybe the show will do something stupid and sloppy and wave away Steve’s RV dreams so he and Nancy are more compatible all of a sudden. Maybe it’ll do something stupid and offensive and wave away Nancy’s dreams. Or maybe the world will have changed so much that this is all a moot point. But I feel like the show’s invested enough in Steve’s semi-underdog status (which the audience loves) and Nancy’s ambitiousness (which gives them some non-sexist cred) to keep them apart.
