I must say they do make good arguments and I found their retelling interesting. I appreciate that someone tried to voice what they dislike in Engage. That she also never used 3H as an example. And what she did around Lumera's death. I was impressed by how they took this scene to make it the center of the story.

However, when it comes to the critique itself, there are point were I agree, but I disagree with her on a whole. Allow me to explain.

First thing ... the summary she made is full of mistakes. She said that Alear learned from Lumera they were a Divine dragon when it's from Vander, said we "get rewarded with 2 rings" when in reality Alear and co have to get the second one from Bandits, forgot to mention that Alear in chapter 10 commited a grave strategical mistake and didn't knew Sombron was in until Marth warned them etc.

I agree that " a simple story that isn't mean to be taken seriously" is a bad argument to defend Engage... because it's literaly showing an insecure fan not capable of handling this sort of criticism even though a deep reading into the game story can give any fan actual arguments to answer to video essays like the one you quote me. So I'll try my best to stay as polite as possible.

So about Showing and not telling in Engage.... it's false but I'll come back on this as I actually express my point of view on them thinking the story just tell us that Alear is scared/coward and not showing. I also have a problem with her quoting how Nintendo had to intervene with Alear's writing subduing their fear and not taking that as an important piece of info because it is. It is. Anyway, currtently. Her first example is the first scene were we fight the Corrupted with the famous "let's run". I agree that this scene is weak because it was played for laugh rather then treating what turns out to be a deep trauma for what it is. The manga does a better job at showing Alear's fears and cowardice.

However, in both manga and game Alear "bravely fight the Corrupted anyway" because.. what did you wanted Alear to do ? Framme and Clanne were in danger. At the begining of the game, Framme has weaker stats then Clanne and he lost his weapon. Vander would not have been able to save them alone. The map cinematic shows Alear rejoining Vander, meaning that unlike Vander who was already on the map, Alear was left behind and decide to join them. Vander even warn them. In the manga too, despite being literaly to the point of fainting and being dragged by followers of Lumera to safety, Alear still fight to help a little girl that would have been killed by the Corrupted. With the difference that in the manga he gets his as beaten up. And in the game, it's a regular fight. I do think that maybe having added a dialogue of injuried Alear to remind us that they were asleep and thus weaker could have intensified the scene but calling it a contrivance when it was Alear having to put up a face to help people in need is... not a good arguments at all.

Also "if it was a side of his character, we would see him fail at least one at being brave"... while SHOWING clips of Chapter 10... you know chapter 10 ? That one time where Alear committed a GRAVE mistake ? Yes... this one time. That's WHY I disagree so strongly and have a bit of a problem taking this entire critique seriously. This is where Alear learns a lesson. Because this entire thing was a disaster and it's surprising she missed that when the entire Internet made fun of Alear's reaction. For context, Alear did not listen to Marth's advice and went into the Cathedral too confident. What happened ? Not only do they fail to save King Morion, but Veyle managed to steal their rings. ALL OF THEM. They lost all of their rings, and it's been shown multiple times that Alear is stronger with the Emblem, that's even what is giving them courage. In that scene, Alear is livid. They are literally having a mental breakdown. I though they were going to break into tears. And that's no wonder : Sombron literaly had half of the necessary ring to have his plan fufilled and Sombron is a threat to this world. Imagine that the big villain just managed to steal all the mac guffin you spend hours collecting and that are half the ammount of the number necessary to destroy the world. And I am surprised she did not realized how much of a mistake this was considering that the following maps without Emblems rings are brutal. I still recal that map in chapter 11, that was painful. And this shows that the gameplay took this incident seriously because it is. It's also on this occassion that Alear learns that while they do have to put a face and being brave, there is limit to being brave since it can lead to disaster like that. Lyn and Lucina even have a talk with Alear where Alear says that Lumera taught them to never run away, and Lyn and Lucina teach Alear there is a difference between running away in front of the enemy and retreating. That shows that Alear has consequences and does makes terrible mistakes and they do try to grow on it because, gets what ? Several maps later, when they return to Elusia... they say the EXACT same words Marth told them before the Cathedral flop. In chapter 20. The same words that Alear took lightly in chapter 10, they are now the one saying them, 10 chapters later. If that is not learning from a grave mistake, I don't know what it is. You can argue however you want that the game did not insisted enough on this, fact is that it is still there.

And again, this point is about Alear not growing. They do grow and they are actually failing at being mature once they lost the rings.

Moreover, speaking of Alear being scared of the Corrupted, the reason why it comes often is because of Alear's trauma. She herself acknowledge later in the video that Alear has a subconsious memory, and that's it. It's when playing the chapter 24 that we learn why Alear was so scared of the Corrupted and it's indeed shown. People will say "it's a support conversation and it's told" but no. Support conversation in Fire emblem are part of the storytelling and characterization. Alear and Diamant support. I have to say it but show don't tell in media doesn't manifest itself the same way depending on which media. The difference between the manga and the game is speaking on that. In a video game like Fire Emblem, you have to use dialogue and rely on the voice acting, whle keeping in mind that most of the earlier game were NOT FULLY VOICED leaving it to the dialogue to show. And yes, you can show through dialogue. How do you show that someone is scared ? easy, have them scream for help and run away. Which is what Alear did in the C support with Diamant.

Besides, when bringing up the Diamant and Alear support.... did she not realize it was precisely about how Alear doesn''t show sign of fear on the battlefield and that they explained to Diamant they mentally prepare themselves for it hence why it doesn't show ? The first moment of the story were about establishing that Alear is scared of the Corrupted, there are tons of dialogue about it. But in the rest of the story this support shows that Alear is actually pushing themselves in order to be able to fight as the Divine dragon to honor the promise they made with Lumera. Take it as this. Imagine you are very tired but you have a big essays to write. Even if you are tired, you are going to pull yourself along and write it. Alear does the same : even though they are scared, they push themselves so that they can actually help others as expected of them.

That side of them also appears in the cutscene, in the Veyle introduction, Alear was paralyzed by a Corrupted surprised attack and was getting on their guard when Veyle helped them. When they meet Lumera's creature, their first reaction is to scream "The Corrupted" indicating fear. I get that having Alear only says that they are scared doesnt give the impression that they show this but in Fire Emblem that's how things are. Cutscene and CG art are precious ressources that have to be used cleverly, they cannot do this for the entire game. The only ressort is to tell or to show through telling. Another problem is that they don't seem to take into account Alear's past live as a Fell child and while I get it due to Alear not regaining their entire memory... it still not a good arguments since Alear's body still remember the Corrupted. In fact, the music theme for the Corrupted being this unsettling and threatning is showing how Alear feals facing them. What's more, Alear's "cowardice" is even more striking when you compare their attitude to Veyle's. veyle openly defy Sombron many times and even fight the Corrupted. Alear was so emotionally broken that they could not defy Sombron. At all. Until they meet Lumera. They are also the only Fell child to fear them. Veyle fight them no problem. Rafal can make hundred of those and Nel even have them as a snack. Alear however ? They are scared to death.

Also, Timera in chapter 15 teases Alear with the story of the woman that talks in the ruin and they are so scared they don't even think "oh ! it must be the Emblem ring" instead they say "You did not needed to make sounds so real !!" indicating they were scared.

She also showed clips of Alear and Veyle's drama in chapter 15 and insist that Alear doesnt learn anything ? Really ? The one chapter where the player as the impression that Alear learns from their mistakes of having trust Veyle ? Because it is a character growth moment. Alear used to bound with Veyle, then they discover she is their mother's murderer, and the anger is vissible on their face which is a rare occassion fo the regualr model looking good for once and not bland. That's also a moment striking into the Veyle conflict since it reminds us that Alear has complicated feeling for Veyle when in chapter 17, they learn that she was manipulated and with the xenologue out, this makes the whole Rafal deal worse when you know that the xenologue is implied to take place somewhere after chapter 17. Yes, no.

I'll give you a bright example of the game showing and not telling and using telling as a form of showing. Past Alear. When we meet them in chapter 24, and in the jpn version, Past Alear speaks in hiragana. This is a speech used by child character. In the Fell xenologue, Young Nil and Nel speaks in hiragana too. They are like 10. Past Alear, a 17 year old teenager, speaks like they are 10. While delivering the lines emotionlessly, it creates an unsettling feeling as the hiragana makes them even more devoided of emotion but implies that Alear's mind is broken and was broken to a young state. When they meet our Alear, they mentioned their dead siblings. Past Alear knowing how each one died is a proof that they SAW their siblings dying and the fact they have the same speeches as a 10 year old child indicates it must have happened when they were very young and that it's the moment they got broken. Compare this to the cutscene in chapter 21-22. Alear greats Lumera with a bright smile, their voice is full of expression, their tone is tender, their eyes are sparkling, here the use of the hiragana shows Alear as the innocent child that was hidden behind the cold facaed they put. As a matter of fact, Alear was always forced into the story as well to put a facade since they had to help Alfred without having had the time to properly mourn her. In fact, they kept their head lowered until Alfred said something that caught their attention, if you recall. And it's also this one scene that is used to show how much Lumera was important to Alear, that makes the tears of chapter 3 make sense. Similarily, the fear of the Corrupted makes sense when you unlock chapter 24 (sadly). This is also what makes Alear accepting to become a Corrupted to safe the world striking. It's when you learn about that in chapter 24 that this decision in chapter 22 becomes, in retrospective, a sign of growth and a major character developpement on Alear's part. I don't care if someone goes "but they were amnesica so it doesn't count'. IT. DOES. Alear's past live is part of them, that's why in the game it's explored unlike Robin whose past live did not mattered compared to the new identity they forged. That's something that cannot be ignored when speaking of Alear. That's why they remain with red hair and red eyes. Their past is still an important part of their identity. Heck if chapter 24 occurs after the reviving as a Corrupted and Emblem it's for us and Alear to realize how far they have come by literaly seeing how they were before.

As for the Sombron child conflict, it's not resolved right on the spot. What ? I am not sure what she mean exactly but let's put thing back into context. Alear spend 10 chapter struggling to find rings and try to be worth as Divine dragon to honor Lumera and protect the world despite being amnesiac and a scared cat that is afraid of ghost stories. Alfred told them that they finally seemed to have achieved what they were looking for. They are confident and then what happens ? Griss bombed them with the nuke that they are Sombron's child and even provided an evidence. The invocations. And if you recall, in chapter 2, Lumera mentions that too, and her silence after that was telling as the reason why. It was a foreshadowing. REPLAYING the game 's story makes it clear that being Sombron's child was an important part of Alear's character, from the concept design to the little foreshadowing at the begining of the game. It's not there just to decoy, it was there from the START. That's why it felt like a natural progression to learn about it. As for the "yeah but it's resolved right away" yea... Alear was literaly gonna leave because they thought they were an impostor. The momen Sigurd told them they still had the power of Divine dragon, they face got lighted up like someone losing a heavy weight place on their chest. And when they ask the others if they will still follow Alear after learning the truth, all others still follows Alear but not because they are the Divine dragon unlike in the begining, but because they are Alear. And that Alear gained their trust and become what connected them, heck it's even a foreshadowing for the ring of the Connector !!!!!!

I can agree on that scene could have hit much harder but... that twist was always a thing (look at Alear's concept art, again)

Other point. The first cinematics. I repeat. In my full review, I mentionned how in this scene, Alear was fighting Sombron alone and that this was an idealized version of the same cutscene that occures later in chapter 22 with Alear fighting Sombron. @bluescreenl has observed that Alear was fighting Sombron all alone, @fayesdiary as observed that Alear's past self was stronger then our Alear because they had to rely all alone and on strengh alone to survive whereas our Alear has to gain their strengh from their allies, a strengh through bound. Past Alear live with Sombron's philosphoy vs Alear living thorugh their own philosophy. This cause Past Alear to commit a terrible mistake that would have taken their live. Whereas our Alear thorught the power of bound, becomes stronger then relying on strengh alone, and defeat Sombron successfully this time. I honestly think that the DLC shows this too since IsekaiAlear committed the same mistake as Past Alear, in a world where they died and could not come back. The tutorial fight is meant to parallel with the boss final fight with Alear fighting alone with Marth vs Alear fighting with all their friends and allies. This shows that Alear has learn the meaning of strengh through bound being stronger then strengh alone and the fact that this resonated through the gameplay yet that not once this video seems to adress it and is a missed opportunity.

Also, I know she jokes about not knowing why Zephia helped Alear and Veyle... she was joking right ? Zephia told Griss why she did it... to get back at Lord Sombron....that's it. Zephia also never "dropped the nuke" that she can control time. She nevers says what is the power of the crystal she gave Alear and Veyle. Just that it would help them get to the shard. It's only in playing chapter 24 of the hell that we discover that our teams traveled back 1 000 ago. That is inaccurate. She also did not seemed to realize that there is a difference between Hortensia's mind manipulation and Veyle's. Hortensia manipulated has no agency, deprived of her own free will. In Mauvier and Rosado's support, Mauvier reveals that the follower of Sombron would ressort to brainwashing, and in Hortensia's case, she is just using that technique. Veyle however, is victim of a spell that is amplifying her dragonic pulse in order to create a "fitting personality" for her since her current personality makes her disobeying Sombron. The difference lies into the fact that Veyle is meant to be used on a long term whereas Hortensia was momentary. From what is said about that spell when it comes to Veyle is that those dragonic impulse are from her Mage dragon side as Veyle is part mage dragon and that Zelestia and Mauvier's support revealed that Zephia destroyed her home because of her dragonic impulse being too poweful, like Veyle, and Zephia claim that she is using part of Sombron's power in chapter 17 to achieve this result. I do think that if the game could have explained a bit more the magic Zephia used, it would be more clear however there is no occasion plot wise to do that since Zephia never joins our part and that Zelestia's magic is weak... oh boi is it weak. She also acts like she doesn't know the difference between time rewind and time travel. To put it short, Time rewind is the same power as Byleth's Divine impulse and in Engage too, it is limited whereas Time travel allows the person's body to travel too and that' where the whole past double thing come in play. Why would Zephia use it knowing that even if she time traveled, she would still be bleeding ? To warn her past double while dying on the spot ? Moreover, it's obvious that Zephia wanted to die since to quote Griss, she could have turned her back on Sombron sooner but she did not, she choose to give up on her life and to die here since she would not have her baby, and therfore the undeying love and how am I suppose to take this seriously when it's yet another person that thinks Zephia is being redeemed here ? Her death scene insist on how she messed up and Alear and Veyle are not here which is pointed out so how am I supposed to think Zephia is being redeemed just because she realize she had the family she dreamed of right under her nose ? God, it's fire emblem. Only when it turns out that the female villain was brainwashed and manipulated and end up shoehorning her way into joining your party can you say they are being redeemed.

Also, it's from there that the "why didn't Alear killed Sombron criticism" comes from and many others bad takes !!! Well, because if Alear kills Sombron then their past self will never meet Lumera and therefore Alear will never become a Divine/Fell dragon hybrid and therfore our Alear will disappear nullifying the entire story ? Isn't that chanigng too much of history ??? No just me ?? Never heard of time paradox ?! ok.

Just saying : the entire reason why Awakening, other FE title that involved time travel had to rely on the multiverse was because they knew that logical conclusion of the grandfather paradox : Lucina and friends killing Grima would result in the destruction of their future and lead them to disappear because butterfly effect (lucina's animal spirit). Other example in Pandora Hearts, the hero have to stop the main antagonist from going back in time and changing one event else it will rewrite the entirety of history.

Well anyway, while I hate time loops and I hate that it's how they explained Alear and Lumera's meeting, Alear killing Sombron in going back in time is actually dumb since they would erase their current existence in the process seeing how changing past rewrites future. Besides that's completely useless to kill him in the past since Sombron is supposed to be killed in the past either way and is brough back to life at the begining of the game! So all it would cause is Alear to destroy their own past while Sombron would still come back to life later on !

On the Sombron bringing back Gradlon, i had to ask myself the question so I replayed the game and... yeah, he needed it to open the portals to other world.

Throwing the Emblems ... are you kidding me ? Sombron killed Alear, the only person that could summon Emblems to purge them of the evil power. Sombron also think her absorbed all of the Emblem power since no one knew that they had the Miracle power even though the game foreshadowed it and then explicitely told about it. But Sombron though he had absorbed their millenia power so once he had that, there was no utility for the rings. Alear dead, rings having no more power and then Veyle becoming evil again. Why do you think Sombron pulls a pikachu face upon seeing that not only Alear came back to life but that they became an Emblem ? That was a mistake on Sombron's part due to him being arrogant but also due to him seeing no reason to do so. He had what he wanted, Alear is dead and Veyle would get rid of Alear's friend even if Sombron still tasked Zephia, a guardian and a barried just in case.... but clearly, it's not like the game proved him wrong since when Alear came back as a Corrupted, they vanish due to having lost their life energy in the process, so if it were not for the miracle, Alear would have wasted their life just to summon Emblem again and that's it... Heck, when Sombron threw them, not only did we had to summon them again while fighting Veyle's Corrupted army, but we also had to collect them since they were scattered around and that the Emblems need to be reunited on the same spot to perform the Miracle. It was reckless of Sombron, but ... if I were in his shoes, I kinda get why I would have acted the same. The fact that the scene explain itself is....*sight* this really doesn't need to be rationalize because it was obvious. Alear dead, what could humans that can't summon Emblems do with it anyway, especially when Sombron got to absorb their powers ? His only mistake was to not know that the Miracle, a secret power, would be used to save Alear and Alear had to came back so summon Emblems for them to do it anyway

She also complains about the Emblem not being summoned outside of Elyos but the game does acknowledge this ? Marth, upon hearing about 0Emblem, says that they are surprised to hear about an Emblem being summoned in another world, because of how strange it is. But that's the point. That 0 Emblem was able to do that... what's confusing exactly ? And the Alear can summon Emblem anyway is explained... Marth said that when the portal would close, Emblems would disappear. When Alear tried to summon back the Emblems, they said that the portal is still open meaning that they are still opened enough to give them the possibility to do this. Sombron even opens more portal to summon dark Emblems for the others world like... pay attention to what the game says ?

And I am being frank but when she said "I didn't knew we could drive this thing" that where I stopped taking anything from this video seriously. Vander literaly explained it. Why do you think we can return to the Somniel at any moment. Divine Dragon control the Somniel. Pay attention to what the game says please.

The putting the ring in the Somniel is a weird point. It's invalidated by the fact that Lumera mentions how this was done for centuries by Divine dragon before her, so you could say it's just a tradition that is perpetuated an was never proven to be flawed. In short, since it always worked up until the game's event, Lumera saw no reason why in particular, this year, it would turn out to be a bad idea. It's like people assuming all swans are white until they meet a black swan. Lumera wa used to it and there was no problem when the other dragons did it, so how could she expect that someone woul try to attack her ... in a surprised attack that took place at night and was the first one Lythos castle had to face, dear God....also Lumera spend like 5 minutes explaining that the castle is safe and there was peace for like 1000 years so really, why putting them in the Somniel when Lythos castle is just as safe ? Maybe you'll know that...if you didn't bragged about how her exposition dump was boring

And that's this video that is the origins of "Why doesn't Veyle ressurect Marni or other character as Corrupted huh ?" BECAUSE HAVE YOU SEEN KING MORION?! Moreover Veyle has been crystal clear that the Corrupted all ends up fading anyway. Alear fasten the process of losing life energy due to the sumoning Emblem session. If Veyle were to bring back Marni as a Corrupted, she might not last long. As a matter of fact, Sombron having to make kids rather then relying on the Corrupted alone to have solider should prove it. When they are killed, they disappear right away. If they waste too much energy, they disappear right away. She also seems to forget that the Emblems, many times, discuss about ressurecting Lumera throught the Miracle but don't agree and could not do it anyway since only after Alear proved Corrupted don't last long when they do thing that waste life energy after summoning the 12 Emblems finally reunited for the first time ever during the entire game. You could argue the DLC contradicts that but I remind you we don't know how much time gap there is between Alear's death and Alear' arrival. We don't know if the Corrupted Roylas were there for days or weeks. Even then, Rafal is more powerful then Veyle and our Sombron since he can corrupt animal. I do think trying to explain more about how the Corrupted works would help, but the part about them disapperaing when they use too much energy was stated by Veyle and Veyle even states that the Emblem summoning only fastened the process.

Also... the peak performance about Veyle is just... *sight*. Veyle can already make Corrupted in a sophisticated way yk ? That's how she is able to bring back Alear as themselves. Rafal can do so too as a matter of fact. The reason why Sombron turned Morion into a lower grade Corrupted is because he just recovered. Remember ? Half of the game, he could not move because he had to feed on blood. Once he regained full energy and with the power of Emblems, he was able to make them better then when we see him in the game and the fact I am literaly quoting the game script to type this answer is all you need to know about it. The whole dragonic pulse isn't there to explain the Corrupted, but is at the core of Veyle's storyline into accomplishing herself in what she wants to be. The Helmet isn't there to make her being at her peak perfomance, but to kill her personality permanetly. That's why she ended up in the after life, and that if she decided to give up, she would have stayed there permantely. Only her consiousness was dying, not her soul so she could fight back since there was still time. I am wondering how can you manage to miss something this obvious, and the fact it's not the only obvious thing she missed is...depressing to say the least.

"The only reason why alear died again was because he summoned all the Emblem--" NO, precisley NO. Corrupted all ends up dying again if they waste their life energy, this was establsihed by Veyle herself in this very scene. Alear summoning the Emblem only fastened the process. God.... tell me it's not true.

SO THAT IS THE ONE RESPONSIBLE FOR MOCKING ALEAR'S DENIAL IN CHAPTER 10 WITH THE VEYLE TWIST!!! Cinemasins ways of saying you ignore the context of the scene... Alear is in denial and I already explained in this post that it was a localization thing. In this scene, in jpn, Veyle speaks differently. Usual Veyle speaks in a rather immature way although she uses kanji. Evil Veyle's speech makes her sound more dignified and ressembles that of Nel and Céline. It's more obvious in japanese due to the difference in language. I repeat but how a character speak is part of characterization. I already adressed this when mentioning Marni using boku or Rafal changing prounons. And I really feel bad for M!Alear's Eng VA for being this harsly criticized when he literaly reached peak performance in chapter 10. Poor guy

AND NO WAIT IT'S THERE THAT COMES FROM THE WHY NO ONE KNOWS ALEAR ?! Oh my God... BECAUSE PEOPLE DON'T WORSHIP ALEAR BUT DIVINE DRAGONS AS A WHOLE... It's been established several times. Zephia's surprise upon learning that Lumera had a child or Hortensia's dialogue... because when you learn that Alear was adopted, of course it makes sense that no one knows what they look like since they aren't a divine dragon, but a fell one and stayed asleep into the Somniel for 1 000 years. Was any member of our cast around 1 000 ago ? I don't think so. Lumera was busy watching over them as they sleep what ceremony do you want them to have ? Divine dragons are all worshipped because of their species, not because of their person. So it does makes sense that even if they don't know Alear, they would rever them anyway, because to them Alear is a divine dragon. That's it. In 3H, people have the exact same relationship to Sothis, where despite having portraits, no one knows how she looks like.. that's.. really not a good point at all, and Alear isn't even a god. Vander explained it : Dragon are revered as such because of their power but they are treated like the royalty that they are. Except people can make offering to them or pray to them and I already addressed that... The game is clear on who knew how Alear looked like and who didn't. Those who lived in Lythos and visited knows, those who didn't ignore how Alear lookd like, heck Elusian didn't even knew there were 2 Divine dragon and for good reasons. Alcryst didn't because he never went into Lythos. Firene is a pious country so both Royals would go. But in Brodia, only Diamant went to visit Alear as the First Prince. Alcryst did not. Why ? idk. The game doesn't explain why some characters did not visited, it only speficied those who had the occasion to do that and those who did not and we decuded that if they don't know Alear, they did not get to visit them. It's easier to specify which one visited into Lythos rather then the opposite because there isn't much of Engage cast who got the opportunity vs the few that could. It's likely that Alcryst was too young since Diamant said he went vist when he was a child. And also.. why does Alcryst not know what the neighboring prince looks like.. because Alfred took some time to recognize Alcryst as well ??? It's been established several times that the kingdom have little communication between each other. Alcryst and Alfred must have met like twice or thrice, it's not like they were best friends and Alfred said it was some time ago, Céline for instance said she was a child when this happen.... Why didn't Queen Eve told Alear how they look like... hm... because... who does that ? Just... this.. this argument is so ... bizare ??? Queen Eve had no idea that Alear and Alfred would took a delay and that Alcryst would get attacked by bandits and monster in the mean time but who who makes a detailled portrailed of someone who is supposed to be a guest ? Alear isn't a war prisonner or a criminal ?! Why aren't they walking with guards ?! Fire Emblemness aside, because Alfred and Alear were in allied territory, they didn't expected to be attacked by Alcryst

Also... my favorite part of the video was that she asked why Alcryst attacked them and did not checked first... while showing minutes ago a piece of dialogue of Alcryst explaining why. Because he was tensed from waiting and having crossed only bandits and beast to be honest Alcryst's reaction made more sense then people believing Alear right away when claming that they are the Divine dragon but welp, let that sink. And again, they were miles away when Alcryst shooted. And I really like how she says it's OOC of Alcryst even though many supports established that when necessary he has to act as the prince he is and knowing Alcryst, even if he did not shoot Alear (nearly) but simply asked them in a rather threatning way to identify themselves, Alcryst would have apologized anyway for having being too rude... And the next scene on the bridge, Alcryst is literaly standing against Hortensia and saying he will protect everyone

I could see on Alear's support being too repetetive but disagree with the take that because Alear is amnesiac they should not have a moral ground. Robin is all evidence needed. Amnesia is also part of memory loss, not entirely else I might ask myself why Alear can speaks. Besides some of those support takes place long after Alear already experienced quite a lot of events, such as the Hortensia one taking place after chapter 10. Great moment of grow from them. Moreover, Nel's support with Timerra (and seeing the video date, it's after the DLC so) establish as well as Zephia's dying moments that dragon due to their long live forgets stuff almost naturally. A little like us who cannot remember what happened before we were 3, and even then it's hard. Alear simply forget about what happened 1 000 ago but remained the same person, sole difference is that unlike 1 000 they are allowed to express it. About worshipp, what the game is saying... is that the character are heeds over Alear because they are a divine dragon but that they end up liking them and treating them as a friend after learning that Alear is normal because else, people would not appreciate Alear for who they are. And choosing Lindon who is the SOLE recruitable map ennemy when we know Lindon isn't happy with how Elusia become and wanted to rejoin Ivy and Hortensia to make a point is really a bad idea to so many level. It's dismissing Lindon's character. And what does that mean by "giving other character the spotlight" that already the case ?? Alear and Alfred's support shows Alfred's reckless side when it comes to helping his friends, with Framme we learn that faith is an important part of her life that helped her in sad moments, Hortensia did learn something since she genuinely thinks that cute stuff are important due to being spoiled, Citrinne is a rich kid and you even quote the one line showcasing that in the main story I...

(Slight edit on my part, but after checking ALL of Alear's support turns out that only 4 of them in reality involves worshipp. 2 if you consider that Merrin, Chloé and Citrinne acts like this with everyone)

Ahh, anyway, about Alear not knowing some things and knowing others, I would not blame it only on the amnesia.

I mean, when you realize that Alear was a Fell child, you might as well ask yourself if the actual reason why Alear was so ignorant about the world whereas only Fell world related things seems familiar might be that they were never taught anything in the first place. After all, Past Alear speak like a child. And Nel herself even though she comes from a different world mention several time that she isn't familiar with the humans, even in her world with comments such as in her gym session or when eating... so I don't see why I would blame it on Alear's amnesia in particular when addtional data seems to infer that Alear did not knew a lot of things even before memory loss.

Besides I don't recall us ever meeting a merc in the main story

I also have an impression that the author of the video doesn't accept the writing à rebours as a valid method of narration even though it's at the core of the thing. Bragging about Lumera's exposition being boring when it's full of foreshadowing showing the game knew it's ending and who is also an example of showing through telling is an example of that. I repeat. How a character speaks is part of showing and of their characterization. Despite the little time we have to know Lumera, she speaks and say those expostion dumping like a MOTHER so it does make me care which is why Engage is considered to have handled better the knowing mama then Fates and they are right because Mikoto got really easily forgotten when Lumera and Alear never having had to spend time together when they reunited is made more tragic by the later revelations. What happens after shows that Lumera was this important for Alear. The manga may not kill lumera but it still gave Alear a literal depression ... over a woman he doesn't know, confirming what I said about the writers intending for those moments to hit with full context. But God, for once we will agree that Lumera's first death should not be so long.

Also I haven't played Octopath Traveler 2, nor any of the series so I would not be able to give my thought but given that my searches lead me to a traditional RPG game a la Bravely Default... bad comparision. Really bad. Engage and Fire Emblem are SRPG. The gameplay is important in the story. Classic standards fire Emblem uses everthing they have to convey the story including the gameplay since the major part of FE is on the chess battlefield and not doing world hub even if Engage managed to balance it compared to 3H....brrr.... I get monastery flashback I HATE IT. But yeah, comparing game who have different gameplay is not good at all, because it's not taking into account that Units are here to expand the story to the battlefield. In my Engage analysis, I had to analyse not only support and story moments, but class choice, name of personal skills, the stats, the name of the freaking weapon and the fact that not once this video tackled on Engage's localization is also a problem, because at least THRICE I had to point out that thing that fans complained did not existed into the japanese text and just to give an example of how localization can ruin this. Rafal's weapon is Revanche, but the french localization decide to name it Vengeance even though those are different thing. Revanche is the act of giving back what someone did to you to the exact same amount by wining, for example, you lost a battle against an enemy and win against same enemy, which is part of his characterization as trying to take his revenge against the world that mocked him then against Sombron when he switched sides. Vengeance means that you are actively making someone pay for the bad that was done to a degree that is not proportional to that offense, but is more intense. For someone giving you a slap, you puch them 20 times. Which is complely missing out his character arc.

And oh boi she does mention the dream cutscense but fail to notice it is meant to parallel with the boss fight in order to show Alear's evolution ???? I... but she does say clever thing, however, it feels like she did not replay the game enough time nor tried to immerse herself into the story to get that....when the answer is just under your nose...

For the design... Well, I already shared my thoughts on it and I do wish I could redesign some but the fact that some of them do their job at communicating is even more saddening as to the design being a missed opportunity. Alfred and Celine's palette works but Celine's design isn't Fire emblem. So people are going to focus on that rather then the fact it makes sense in narrative. Like her being a princess from a rich country that has little experienence for war = rococo desgin. And impractical outfit on purpose. However, Engage does uses visual symbolism to get it's point across. Alear's story is felt in the design for Lythos vs Gradlon and in the music. For instance, I made that in one of my draft post, but the complentary between white for Lumera and Dark for Sombron also shows Alear's psyche of seeing Lumera has an angelic mother and Sombron as his worst fear and trauma.

I swear that if the author of the video had to force themselves into going through the story, I had to force myself for 4 hours (again, I watched it twice to make SURE I wouldn't miss any of her points) into hearing things that are either subjective, either blantalty showing they did not payed attention even if the last minutes about the rewriting was very refreshing but also showed that they missed some point about why some scene don't happen with Alear here or that the thematic of the game was already there...

I also have a problem with them complaining about contrivance and pointing things that aren't contrivance since game itself explains it. I can give you an example of actual plot hole in Engage. Elusia. Why did Lumera gave a ring to a country that worship her worst ennemy ? Seeing what the game says, it can only be attributed to the background of how Sombron became Gradlon's king and Elusia's deity, which is saddly never explained. That was right there, the FIRST THING I asked myself when Alfred told us about Elusia being Engage's Plegia and not ONCE DOES THIS VIDEO MENTIONS IT ??? Instead it nitcpicks stuff that can already be explained reasonably enough. And it started a trend of people repeating the thing she said without even thinking twice about it. God. And it's not even one that destroys the story since Elusia steals Byleth, Lucina and the Renais twins ring anyway, so them having other ring from the start felt just like an uncessary contradicting info.

( Edit : After checking the interviews for Engage's release turns out that it's explained Elusia got a ring because it used to worship the Divine dragon tribe)

And I am gonna be honest, as the video went on I started to doubt on their genuinety... I replayed the game enough time to knows how to answer to any of those critics because they base themselves on things that seems obvious. Sombron letting the rings because Alear is dead ? Obvious ! The game only mentioning the rare people that got to meet Alear and not those who never did because they are more of them ? Obvious ! And not even taking into account that design like Veyle and Alear are plot relevant and part of the characterization to generalize aroung the design that feels off or blatantly ignoring the music when gems like the Hound theme and the Corrupted theme exist, showing how those people feels to our character is just unbelievable.

Sorry if it took long... I really wrote all that. Thanks for asking me my thoughts. But honestly, even if Engage does need a bit of polish, there is really few thing in that video that would be relevant. It seems like there is a bad understanding of everything in the story like... saying that the dream cutscene never happened when this scene and the custscene in chapter 3 are actually 2 different vision from the same individual of the Chapter 22 scene that was cut out of it's context and seeing how the author admitted liking 3H's story, I am surprised she did not recognized that it was the same narrative tool as the main one used in 3H. I won't repeat myself. Engage is not a master piece, it has flaws, a clumsy writing, and a lot of things that need poilishing but really, no ammount of video critique will manage to convice me into thinking that this story is SO bad when it's at worst, mediocre and I strees that I mean it as in generic. Really. And probably too generic to be this bad.

Engage's story can be improved but every story can.

And also, there is nothing wrong with liking a game whose story is bad. I like Fates and sheet on it's story everyday. Same with Awakening and I did the same with Engage but there is no denying Engage does a better job at telling it's story then the last game we had and as more assets to it. I'll go deeper into all of this but I already made a too long answer for tumblr standards and I could still do it later or already did it in my previous posts. I am not even trying to say Engage is a well written*pasterpiece, because it's not... but it still does a good job a telling it's stories and is funnier to analyze.

But you should not feel ashamed of liking the game just because some people will make a point into explaining why they dislike it and other people enjoyed its story too. Anyway, I hope I did not sounded rude towards the author of the video (I also like to make the disclaim that i am a ESL so I might have expressed myself in a clusmy way) but there is just too many elements that feels like a superificial reading into the story and as someone who always ends up making deep dive into Engage trust me...there is reason why I named it "Fire Emblem Emotional damage" and even if it's a silly looking game with heavy handed writing at some parts, I loved it and enjoyed it's story a lot and I'll always maintain it's actually much deeper and passionate then this "obligation" nonsense. You can clearly feel that were was a ton of love put into that story.

oh god. okay so i just finished ifylita and i have so many thoughts!! i literaly just binge watched half of the series today (home office be like) so everything is mushy and i forgot like half of the things i wanted to write about but who cares!

so. it was so GOOD! like... so so so good. im speechless. all the characters had their depth and purpose and i want to wrap them all in a soft blanket and never let go (not you robert you can rot in hell). ming?? you mean the bestest man ever? his character was just so perfect and the actor's performance was on another level. just. perfect. the friendship between ueangphueng and fongkaew was so much needed. like they could make enemies out of them and make fongkaew the evil bitch but they didn't! they made two really strong characters out of them and im here for it (also very pretty character. like i want their wardrobe. please and thank you). they also could do the same with busabong and im glad they just let her go to find her own way after the engagement fiasco. robert actually rotting in jail was unexpected. the whole scene was priceless. the drama? the spice? hell yeah. and the last episode? fuck it all. the feels!! i was not ready. the scene with all of their memories, accompanied by the sound of them fucking in the background, followed by a cut to yai crying was a cinematic masterpiece. let them enjoy their postcoital bliss for fuck sake!! the jump to the present? painful. jom and jeed's annoying siblings energy? priceless. i need more of them. (and jeed having crush on her best friend, suffering because she doesn't want to be a homewrecker). and the end. to be fair, i would have more questions before i would be exchanging saliva with a dude that looks like another dude i fell love with in the past who i know is already dead...like...at least ONE question. but i mean...whatever floats your boat jom. and then the other end. jom's outfit was the same as in the scene in the house righ? or it was just really similar? or was it a coincidence? or do he really got yeeted into another era the DAY he met yai's present self?? so many questions i could probably get an answers to if i got my hands on the novel but yeah.

Let's start with the opening sentence, because I swear to god, when I read it I laughed so loud. I knew something dramatic was on the way. When Sasuke is absolutely livid about Naruto's behaviour? Chief's kiss. The "like some whore you took in for the sex"? Phenomenal.

Fun fact this story was originally called 'Asshole' in my files because of the opening line.

It makes me sad that Hinata is grateful for being treated with respect by Sasuke, because they don't even know each other really well, he is just being a well-mannered human being and respecting her space. This is the bare minimum.

Hinata's tantrum in the car is the best piece of literature ever, I laughed so hard because girlie has been through some deep shit, she deserves to go apeshit sometimes, okay? She even cursed!

I have a head cannon that Hinata just needs to scream out of her little quiet body every once in a while so there isn't a Hyuga massacre.

I like writing mildly dramatic situations handled very humanely. People fall in the shower all the time. I love having people have to actually deal with situations. I think it shows more of their character than anything.

Seriously ive been talking myselr so much about how much i adore it its like they made a game just for melina i never play video games but this is so so fun to me. I was kind of confused at first tho ill be honest it is overwhelming with how big the islands are (im on the second one right now i forgot its name:P) but ithink im getting the hang of it its SO FUN EXPLORING SOOOO FUN and i like how sonic even mentions he likes how muchcroom there is to explore … omg the characterization im not too sureabout for amy i dont know if its her voice or what but THAT IS NOT AMY ROSE! I always get sad when she is written as more mature i miss 12 year old amy…She is so sweet though i still love her forever.&knuckles is so silly i love seeing sonic knuckles interactions OMG jusy so happy to see sonic characters talking to eachother and being friends i LOVEEE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also sage js so interesting i have no idea what is going on with her i didnt keep up with anything about the game before it released cus i didnt want spoilers but i like her. Today was literaly shit. Everything was to much and it came crashing on you after dinner

You were just doing some homeworks for the weekend, that you could see your boyfriend, when some of it start to be more complicated. It was the evening and you were still doing it, alone in your room with just your overworked brain and overwhelmed mind. One of them give you a hard time to do it, the information rotated in your brain but you can't find the answer and it was the crack for your head.

Your vision start to blur and you know that you were crying. Hot tears rolling down your cheeks, hands on your mouth to try stopping the sob to come out and your breath were not normal. You try to calm down but it was not what your mind want when anxiety start to pops in your head and panic runs in your trembling body. You sobs finally come out and you were now a crying mess on your desk'chair.

Your intrusive thoughts invaded you that you didn't hear you phone ring's.

One time...Two time... but still you didn't realise. At the third time, a beep ring at the end and a vocal was heard

Hey Bug ! It's the third time I call you ? Are you okay ?....Ah yes ! I forgot you have an exam next week you're maybe studying, well don't forget to take a break and drink water, you're the best and you can do it ! I See you tomorrow or maybe tonight if I can pass by you without disturbing your work ! I love you bug !

With a lot of difficulties, you did recognised the voice of your lover: Peter Parker and your trembling hands takes the phone. You sight was still blurry and your digits were shaking but you start scrolling on your contact to find his. You hope that it's the right number when you press the call's button

Immediately Peter respond to it and you try to talk, key's word "try"

Your mouth was open but not a single sound come out

You let out a sob and with a cracking voice a little "...Pe-te" come out

Peter smiled at you but with lightly worried eyes when he heard your ragged breath and start rubbing his thumb on yours to try to calm you. You and the other hand, keep your head low and you didn't want for Peter to see your sobbing and panicking face

Peter: Hey Bug. Might look at me ? I mean I know I'm handsome and all but I looove when I see your magnificent eyes.

You eyes widden a little at his sentence and your lift you head to finally see your boyfriend with a goofy but honest smile.

Peter: Hello there my pretty human. I think it's not the best place to cry isn't it ? Bed is better don't you think?

The soft smile he made went directly in your heart and you can't help it but start sobbing more and let more tears come out from your eyes.

Peter know you and your anxiety so he did what he knows the best: comforting you and making the bad thoughs go away. He slowly wrapped his arms around your shaking body and pulls you on his chest, hands playing with your hair and he rub small circles on your back. Peter went with you on your bed, more precisely him on the bed and you sitting on his laps, placing you both in a comfortable position.

Peter takes one of your hand and lead it in his chest, on his beating heart.

Peter: Try to study your breath Love, everything's okay, I'm here with you so In...and out...

His voice was smooth and the sound of his heartbeat was a very good thing for you to follow. You were still crying but with the help of your boyfriend, you start to calm down and feel your anxiety go away. The whole time, Peter was praised you with "I'm proud of you" or "I'm here, you're doing a great job" and comforting you with his famous jokes and word of affirmation and adoration. When he heard your breath was normal and just sob was let out, Peter hold you close and his grip tighten around you and he press a kiss on your forehead.

Peter: Do you feel better?

You don't trust your voice so you jus nod and snuggle more into Peter's neck. With all the emotion, you were literaly tired, when was the time when you sleep well ? You didn't care because of Peter's warming body which is very relaxing and his smooth scent, your body stop trying to stay awake and slowly start falling asleep. He kiss your forehead, then your cheeks and peck your lips with the cutest smile he ever had.

Peter: I love you so much bug. I know it's hard sometime when everythings is down and you think you can't do anything but it's not the truth. “I swear there is something, you’re just too blind to see it !”

Your friends were once again arguing over the fact that your crush on your best friend wasn’t one sided. They had this bad habit of trying to analyse your interactions with her and gave you their interpretations once Lia would go to the bathroom.

“Stop saying nonsense, what made you think such a thing in the first place anyway ?”

Your friends gave you a ‘are you serious ?’ look before slapping your forehead one by one.

“What made us think that ?! Seriously Y/N ! The way she looks at you, care for you. She literaly blow on your hot chocolate because you might get burned, who even does that ?!”

“Lia does ! She always did !”

You tried to defend yourself but to be honest you already knew you weren’t going to win against them especially not against a fed up Yuna.

“You know Y/N if you don’t want to admit it, we can’t really do anything to force you to. But maybe you should just stop putting walls between you and her just because you’re afraid she might not like you back when you already know she does.”

“I.. “

Ryujin cut you off before you could answer Yeji.

“Just think about it okay ? We’ll talk about it on another time your girlfriend is coming back.”

You eyes followed Ryujin’s, not even arguing with the word she used to refer to Lia. When you saw Lia's face you knew something was wrong.

Jisu had her head down and behind her Chaeryeong was making decapitation signs which was for sure not a good sign. Your bestfriend’s eyes were stuck on her phone screen. You got up meeting her halfway, letting Chaeryeong know you were handling whatever was happening with Lia.

“Is everything okay ?”

Lia faced you, her eyes visibly on the verge of crying. She didn’t say anything but pulled you in the tighest hug, her hands tangled in your shirt while you could feel her tears running against your neck. You embraced her small body against yours, a hand in her hair drawing small patterns on her scalp while the other was on her back.

“Bring me home Y/N.”

You hated him, from the bottom of your heart you hated him. Once again a guy was breaking your best friend's heart and you were left with the saddest Lia could be.

Lia and you have been best friends since as far as you could remember. You met in middle school and that eye smile made you fall for her almost immediately.

Even though your relationship with her never been anything beyond friends you could tell that you had a connection. It wasn't like a simple friendship there was more to it, you were linked more deeply than that.

On some days you believed it was because of all the time you spent together, all the thing you went through as one but you knew it was even deeper than that, it was older too.

It started the day you met her eyes for the very first time, it was like everything fell in place at that moment and ever since nothing change for you.

Unfortunately you couldn't tell the same for Jisu, you couldn't keep track of the number of boyfriends that went by during all this time.

Obviously you hated everyone of them, all worst than the past one in your eyes, even when your other friends found one of them kind of cool the only thing you could think of him was disgust.

And you were right because of course none of them kept the distance, like today they all let her down somehow.

Anyway you were way better and qualified to take care of your best friend than they were. And if you believed your friends, you'll be better as her girlfriend too but that was something else.

You put the crying Lia in bed, she cried herself to sleep once again because of an asshole. It was making you see red but her sleeping face reminded you that every time it happened she got up again more powerful than ever, the thought bringing a smile to your face.

And you were right not later than the morning after she already forgot the guy and was getting you to do a movie marathon with her. Never in a million years you’d thought things would turn out like this.

For some reasons your friends' words were making much more sense now that you were engulfed in a blanket, Lia’s head on your shoulder. It was something common between you two, you had always been comfortable with being close to each other.

But now that everything was sinking in, you noticed that you never saw your bestfriend hug any of her exs, not that you were complaining but for someone who likes skinship as much as Lia does, it was odd. Even the girls don’t get as much physical interactions as you receive from your bestfriend.

You tried to brush the thought away, maybe it was because you were bestfriends after all.

To be honest the movie wasn’t interesting enough to get you out of your mind. Playing on the screen was some sort of romantic movie between the typical badboy and the shy girl scenario. Beurk, way too straight for you and even if it wasn’t way too cliché anyway. 

“You don’t like it ?”

The soft voice of your bestfriend for sure got you out of you thought faster tham any other film would have.

“What ?” You asked confused on what she was refering to exactly.

“The movie, you don’t like it ?” She asked again.

“Of course I love it ! What do you mean ? It’s an amazing movie.”

You knew your attempt failed as soon as you met her eyes but Lia didn’t say anything, she let you believe you had a chance with your lame lie.

“Oh yeah ? What’s the title ? No better what’s the main character’s name ?”

You rolled your eyes at the way she was smirking, proud to catch you lying.

“Ok I hate it.”

“Sorry I didn’t get what you just said ?”

“I hate it ! You win stop torturing me please.”

She chuckled at how dramatic you were being and you swear that chuckle could have killed you if you weren’t already dead.

“Why did you agree to watch it then ?”

She encircled your neck with her arms getting your faces closer than they already were which made you lower your head. Trying to avoid any eye contact with hers or with her lips was hard but needed if you didn’t want to get lost in an intense contemplation.

“Because you wanted to.”

She smiled at you, one of her famous one million dollar eye smile that you fell in love with. She reached for your cheeks, squeezing them with her hands which was good because it would cover for the blushing mess you were becoming.

"You're so cute Y/N, but you know you can say no to me."

"No actually I can't and I don't want to anyway."

You didn't know why you were being suddenly so bold, but your inner self was happy to let your feelings out even just a little for once.

The main issue though was that while you were talking, Lia's gaze fell on your lips making you mirror her and you were now trap in contemplating hers.

Before you could comprehend anything she was kissing you. Maybe you were blind after all, Yuna was probably right, you thought now that you were facing a clear sign of Lia's feelings towards you. The only thing you were thinking of was how it could still mean nothing.

You were too lost in your head to really kiss her back or even enjoy the kiss before she withdrew herself from you. You cursed under your breath for having waist such an occasion and especially since you knew it probably wouldn't happen twice.

"I ... I'm sorry I didn't mean to do that... I... You.."

"It's okay Lia, calm down."

You were hurt not gonna lie but you didn't care about you, your main concern was Lia and nothing else.

"I understand, you just broke up you needed comfort. It's okay."

You were silently dying while saying those words but if you could prevent her from leaving you it was worth it.

"What ? No ! That's not why I did it."

You were lost, you couldn't understand what was her reason if it wasn't about feeling sad and lonely.

"Then why ?"

Lia sat back against you, head on your shoulder like before.

"I.. Chaeryeong and I talked when we were in the bathroom ..before I received the text..."

You were already cursing Chaeryeong.

"... She told me I wasn't discreet, that it shows. "

"What shows ?" You asked confused, having trouble to follow her point.

"My feelings for you. She told me, everybody knew that I love you, everybody except you so I figure out I might just go for it but I guess I was wrong."

She turned her head towards you, checking if you were listening or not. But of course you were, you were just lagging hard right now. She just confessed. It's been some time now that you knew you had it bad for her but you never thought about confessing, not even once. Too scary, too risky and well too daring for you but she just did it, just like that.

"It's okay I know you don't feel the same I noticed."

"What did you just say ?"

"I know you don't like me."

"No before that."

"That I love you ?"

Wow that sounded amazing in your ears, you only dreamed about such a thing happening.

"Same."

"What ? No, I didn't say same."

She tried to remember what she actually said and it was so cute to see her search for nothing.

"I did. I'm saying same."

"Wait. What ?"

"I love you too."

You thought you were lagging but by seeing Lia right now you could almost read 'Error 404' on her forehead.

"Did you just ?!"

"I think so, yeah."

Lia crashed her lips on yours and this time you didn't waist time thinking, second chance don't come that often so you were just going to go for it like Lia taught you to.

You get kinda curious to know how it will be if you both have sex as it was the first time.

But he falls asleep a little bit after you take your skirt off and you just lay by his side nesting yourself on his chest for some minutes before taking a shower.

Rowoon:

Turns into a coala or maybe he thinks your bodies just exist glued one to the other.

Lets you interact with your friends and the other guests as long as you let him hug you.

Complains when you jerk or move around. He has no idea of what is going on around him but doesn’t mind.

Actually is sleepy but you misundersand him as just your clingy tall boy.

Lets one of your spicy cheesy pet names escape from his mouth while explaining what you work with. It gets so awkward. You look at his friends with panic in your eyes and they try to laugh it off but damn. It’s bad.

Juho doesn’t see any problem on it though. “You’re my Hot Candy, what’s wrong with it?”

He eventually understand that you’re upset and apologizes. Because you’re upset not because he did an absurd.

Asks if you don’t wanna taste his lollipop to cool down. He’s not kidding

You come back home early and use all the sweets vocabulary you both can think while havind the most wild sex ever.

You have the impression that this boy have never drunk before.

“Y/n this drink is so gooooood.” he says for the 10th time.

He develops a brand new way to talk, extending the vowels and sounding really cute indeed but annoying and silly too.

The peace and love drunk

Insists to walk around with an empty bottle and stop the people he finds beautiful to compliment them. Don’t take the bottle off his hand.

Didn’t really bother anyone. He gets people complimenting him back (because he’s a beauty, look his hair). What makes him feel a happy little bean 

Eventually sleeps in the most weird position, but you prefer to not move him. 

You wink and he’s gone.  Just his bottle friend is there. How did a very drunk Hwiyoung just desappear like smoke.

You find him crying in a corner because he doens’t know where he left the bottle.

Chani:

Has very deep conversations with you while using a snack straw shapped as a cigarette.

I finished Initial d! (my edit above, like if you save:))

I'm so happy. It took me less then a month. It was so interesting I couldn't put it down. The world of street racers in the 90s. I'm in love with the late 90s and early 2000s. Life was a lot more simplier back then.

Immidiately after I watched the last ep of final stage I had teares in my eyes. So much happend in the past six stages I just got so emotional. First time for an anime tbh.

The philosophy behind it was amazing and simple at the same time.

The scene that was appearing threw the fifth stage was when the older chubby guy who was driving an GT-R (if I remember correctly) asked Keisuke, Ryosuke and Takumi why they race. Tbh I can't remember what Takumi said (Ik he's a main character and all that jazz, oh well). Keisuke answered bc it is a proof he's a masohist (I cracked up at that). And Ryosuke said a dream. I was confused at what he meant by that, but after the whole suicide thing I figured out the meaning by the Project D name before he said it himself hehe

I remember I tried to guess what does D stand for. For example: drift, destination... And when I got it I was like "Gotcha bish!"

I don't know why was every one bashing the animation. I didn't even notice that much of a difference between third- fourth and fifth-finale stage. Three companies were working on initial from start till the end. Give em a break.

I also want to point out the number of outfits in the anime and the manga. It was so cool that you can see characters style evolve as they mature. Keisuke started from wearing hoodies to polo shirts so that in the fifth and finale stages he started wearing dress shirts.

The healthy rivalry between Takumi and Keisuke is the most beautiful thing people in the same team can have. They thought more of the other one then themselves. They looked up at each other. Just beautiful.

I found it really interesting bc they touched up on some problems of young adultes. Clearly the police wasn't one lmao. Iketani and Wataru were the only ones who vomplained that they don't have money. Bruh even Takumi was lucky, Bunta pulled out new engine from the hat literaly.

The moment that stayed on my mind threw the series was when Takumi in Itsuki missed summer brake and when they had to find stable jobs. I'm third year in high school and after all this corona shit I will try again to find a part-time job, so I was like I will experience that too, damn.

Btw do you think that Itsuki's life is kind of pathethic, ik it's a strong word. But like imagine having a best friend that is wunderkind for driving and their you like wuhu you can do it. Also he always blindly says that Takumi is going to win. Most of the people in the crowd analyse and study his driving and then say whose gonna win. But Itsuki all away in Gunma knows he is going to win like dude, you're just a puppy. In highschool he worked at the gas station part-time and now he just continues doing the same thing. Is his only dream to work at the gas station? Maybe he will inheriet the station idk.

*I'm not try to offend anyone who workes at a gas station or has a similar kind of job. It's hard and honest work. In an anime it's not as fascinating as pro racer ya know.

If you haven't already figured it out hahaha. I don't have things like a husbando or that sort of thing. He just motivates me to do more, to do better. His impulsivness reminds of my own. You can clearly see his grown a lot. He understands that his brother was there for him. And the fact that student became better than the master is just amazing to me.

I know this is not indepth analasys. I just wanted to share my thoughts with the rest of the fandom. And for those who are thinking about picking it up, I higly recommend it if you're into jdm, tofu and young adulte stuff.

I showed my friend Keisuke. And she got interested so I showed her the Kyoko tragedy. After few days she sent me edits of initial d races and thought they were so cool. I had to simplfy car terminology for her but overall she really likes it. She doesn't know anything about cars so will see how it goes.

Monsters are real (Yandere Hawks x Reader) Part 2

You were starting to loose whatever patience remained with your sorry excuse of a boss.

Every day, every single god damn day he would enter the office and ask about your personal life, your relationships with others, including your soon to be husband... what you liked to eat, your favorite color and much more.

As a result, your harsh tone and savage comments became so bad, people were actually crying even when they weren’t the ones that got insulted. People were wondering why Hawks had been trying to be friendly with you again, after he had taken your cruel attitude and your viscious words for a year, he had become apathetic when dealing with you, literaly shutting down any emotion he had to escape the pain your words caused... and because everyone knew of your quirks, they were scared of what could happen should they ever try to fight back.

“Listen here, you miserable excuse of a human being. Take your worthless existence along with your equally miserable personality and do some paperwork, otherwise leave the building and let me have a good day without having to deal with you!” You said and people were trembling... the day had just started and you were already shouting. 

Hawks blinked, trying his best not to get angry, he was the one who wanted to give this a try again... and he was really wondering if he made a stupid decision.

“(Name)... don’t you think you’re being a bit harsh? I just asked if you liked mangos.”

Your eye twitched and you glared at the sidekicks Hawks had, they looked at each other and they decided to try and distract him. For everyone’s safety, it would be best if Hawks didn’t push you into talking to each other. Suddenly, a man entered, he wasn’t working here and the people wondered who he might be.

“(Name), you forgot your keys. I’m working until midnight so I won’t be home.” 

At the sound of his voice your entire expression changed, heck even the air around you changed. You passed by Hawks and went over to the newcomer, giving him a quick kiss before taking the keys. 

“Thanks Akira. I noticed it after I went to my office.”

Hawks could only watch as you spoke in a way that wasn’t aggressive but not endearing either... your actions though, they showed a completely different person. The hero could tell that the man was your soon to be husband but... he never expected him to change you THAT much.

“It’s okay... and could you not play with my hair?” He asked with a small smile as you kept ruffling his hair, gently pulling at it and enjoying how soft and smooth it was.

“No, I like it.” You said and everyone was left speechless, YOU were being... nice? Well not nice, yet you weren’t your usual self... it was crazy! Akira noticed it and smiled at the people around,feeling weird for being such a spectacle.

“Uhh... excuse me, I didn’t mean to interrupt anything important.”

“If there was anyone important then I would have said so by now.” You said and Akira sighed.

“(Name), we’ve talked about this, one good action a day...”

“I’m not being mean, really, no one important is around.” You said and that really made a lot of people feel really bad about themselves.

“Your co-workers are important, they help you solve problems with your job.” He said and you sighed, you REALLY didn’t care about them or their opinions... but Akira was the only person in this world that could make you reconsider someone’s worth.

“Fine, I will order lunch for the whole company. That’s good with you?” You asked and Hawks wondered if you still recalled that he was around AT ALL.

“Yes but make sure to ask them what they want to eat. Now I have to go, I’ll see you later.” He said and kissed your forehead lovingly before leaving, you had a small smile as you returned back to your office, placing your keys in your bag and focusing on some documents. 

“Am I seeing things?” One of the sidekicks asked and Hawks shook his head, now he was sure that there was indeed something good in you. And seeing you being this gentle... being so... nice to someone. And your smile, oh god, that smile was that of an angel’s. 

Hawks came closer to you and decided to try and get you to change your attitude by using his recent discoveries/

“Was his hair really that soft?” He asked and you looked at him with a small glare, not the worst you had done, yet it was clear... you didn’t want to talk.

“It was and you better not be getting any ideas bird brain.”

“I’m not, I’m just curious. I doubt it can be so soft naturally.” He said and you scoffed.

“And what would you know about smooth hair, yours is so messy that even your own kind won’t approach to build a nest.”

He smirked, seeing as you took the bait. He kept talking about your lover and despite your less than pleasant answers, you weren’t really trying to end the conversation... instead he could have sworn you enjoyed having those little provocations of his. When he did eventually leave, the whole company was doing the same, seeing as it worked miracles.

When it was lunch time, you kept your word and asked everyone what they liked and ordered for everyone. People were so happy not to deal with your usual harshness that day, you weren’t making their lives miserably, focusing more on finishing your work so that you could see Akira again, after all your brother had told you that Akira had a gift for you and you were curious as hell!

Hawks was also curious but for different reasons, the more he saw your good side, the more he wanted to learn about you and your life, there were people in your family with a lot of power who didn’t allow your background to be uncovered, which made him believe that there were some pretty dangerous secrets. 

“(Name)...just who are you, really?” He mumbled, for some reason he was slowly getting over his anger and disgust towards you... it was clear that you guarded yourself, that you didn’t trust others... but he’d be damned if he didn’t change that. 

He focused on a picture your lover had uploaded where the two of you were holding hands and your foreheads touched one another. You were staring at him with loving eyes... you were so different in that picture... and Hawks couldn’t help but wonder what it’d be like to be that man, to be the person you showed this affection, the person you held so dear. He wanted to see that smile directed to him... he wanted you to like him... and he was going to succeed, he wasn’t the number two hero for nothing after all.

(forgot to actualy post this when I first wrote it, anyways, rechecked the info with the help of wiki, so have my thoughts on TFA Megatron (S1))

So I finished the first season of Transformers Animated, and let me just… Let me just EXPRESS my feelings for TFA S1 Megatron and the shit that happens to him:

So Megatron has the Allspark in his sight after so many many years of searching. It’s on a tiny Autobot repair ship, shouldn’t be a problem to get it right? Except while fighting the Autobots a bomb planted on him (by Starscream, he should see this coming) detonates. He survives that with damage to his right arm, gets inside the ship and is facing off against 5 autobots (clearly repair crew, and not in sync) in no gravity. One of them manages to cut his arm off, he is down by an arm, big deal, ‘tis but a scratch, he’s fine.

… No like seriously, this doesn’t stop him. He ALMOST GETS THE ALLSPARK!

Except that the leader of this troublesome repair crew kicks him off ship, causing him to crash on Earth. The only thing intact is his head (that Sumdac finds). Is he dead? Is he in a coma? Whatever it is, Sumdac tinkers with what he found.

50 years later, Megatron wakes up, can’t move, can’t do anything really because he is literaly a HEAD (ᵃˡˢᵒ ʷʰⁱˡᵉ ⁿᵒᵗ ʳᵉˡᵃᵗᵉᵈ ᵗᵒ ᵗʰᵉ ʳᵃⁿᵗ ᶠᵘˡˡʸ,ⁱ ˡᵒᵛᵉᵈ ᵗʰᵉ ᵉᵖⁱˢᵒᵈᵉ ʷⁱᵗʰ ᵇᵘˡᵏʰᵉᵃᵈ “ˡᵒˢⁱⁿᵍ” ʰⁱˢ ᵇᵒᵈʸ…ᵖᵘᵗˢ ᵗʰⁱⁿᵍˢ ⁱⁿᵗᵒ ᵖᵉʳˢᵖᵉᶜᵗⁱᵛᵉ), sees that Starscream was the one who tried to kill him and almost suceeded (or did he suceed? Again, not 100% clear on the function of that Key… It heals, it upgrades, it gives life and sentience… Did it REVIVE Megatron or did it just wake him up?)

And what does he do?

I MEAN LOOK AT THIS?!

He is LITERALY ONLY A HEAD, WITH SO MANY OF PARTS EXPOSED OR WIRES HOOKED UP TO SUMDACS MACHINES.

MACHINES THAT HE CAN’T USE, BECAUSE THEY ARE TOO PRIMITIVE.

AND DESPITE ALL THAT!

THIS GLORIOUS FUCKER!

STARTS PLANNING RIGHT AWAY! HE KNOWS THE SITUATION IS BAD AND HE BIDES HIS TIME!

He eventualy risks what little… Advantage? Is being locked away in the dark an advantage? When there’s autobots around being hailed as heroes, yea I think it might be though Megatron wouldn’t admit it… I think? Not outloud that’s for sure

Anyways, he risks it with exposing himself to Sumdac.

And then proceeds to deceive Sumdac! Like, Sumdac is smart. I actualy did need to take a step back and go “damn this poor man really is way over his head”, because on the first glance it seems really dumb to fall for a lie like that.

(I actualy would love to talk about the Professor in the future, especialy by just looking at him as a character on his own… BUT THIS IS MEGS SPOTLIGHT SO *yeets away for another time*)

AND MEGATRON IS NOT 100% GOOD AT THIS “I am an Autobot” THING. He lashes out! He is impatient, he is angry to the point of wrecking the lab with the energy surges and there are moments when Sumdac doubts that he himself can fix this mess he made, especialy with how angry this “Autobot” is.

But SOMEHOW, this glorious FUCK manages to turn most of the damage those outbursts cause into very convincing explanations for his reactions, WHILE also pretending to be useful and “helping”.  

He can see almost everything from where he is, once he masters the connections with the cameras and etc. in the tower and things across the city. He deflects or “explains” why his plans included flamethrowers for amusement bots, and, let me say this again! 

HE IS ONLY A HEAD AT THIS POINT IN THE SERIES!

A HEAD!

He is pretty limited with what he can do HIMSELF! Sumdac is not an ally, he is more of an enemy that isn’t aware of the power he holds over Megatron.

And he is doing everything FAR too slow.

That everything being mainly, getting Megs a body.

AND WHAT’S EVEN BETTER?!

There are so many robots around, all of them reverse enginered from Megatron himself, and none of them are of use to him. And when he DOES manage to get them to listen, something always interferes (Dinobots were a semi sucess, Soundwave rebelled, but did end up wearing a con badge (and boy was it eerie to hear Soundwave say ‘machines supperior to humans’ and how they will be all destroyed… Great episode that one) ). 

So the robots of this planet are useless to him. He has to try and find a way to manipulate human criminals to do his bidding, getting him the materials Sumdac apparently can’t get without raising suspicion. Not that it’s hard, but they are useless as well, especialy with the Autobots meddling, so that also fails. 

And there is always that Key. That he can’t just ask for, but can’t get no matter how he tries. And by god, does he try.

His only real, longe term-ish line of self defense at the moment is Sumdac and his guilt over using a friend of the Heroic Autobots…

AND THEN!

HIS DECEPTICONS ARRIVE!

And he isn’t even sure if he can trust them, given that his Second In Command blew him to pieces. So he has to gamble and hope for the best with Lugnut.

Which is clearly tiring because, as much of devout follower as Lugnut is (the fanfics are all spot on, writers of TFA Fandom amazing job portraying this mass of devotion), it gets annoying real fast when you are trying to get things done and really need to get a body asap, and the only one you can count on is determined to sing praises to you everytime you give an order.

Not even THAT seems to bring him any closer to his goal. And then Sumdac finds what remained of his body.

Pretty good for 50 years of weather exposure, eh?

BUT it seems he will have to keep waiting, because the blizzard that is raging outside causes a blackout, so the Tower is using the backup generator, so Sumdac declairs a delay in repairs.

Megatron alternates between bluster and sweet-talk to try to get his way, but it’s no use. Megatron attempts to call Lugnut again for assistance.

From the looks of it, he came back online at the begining/end of fall, so he’s been,

pretending to be an Autobot (one who is a friend of bots he knows very little about, the ones who caused him to become like this in the first place)

 pretending to be useful and helpful to Sumdac in exchange for attempted repairs (all of which have failed)

keeping his temper in check (good thing he can save the slip ups with quick thinking…)  

for about… 3 or 4 months?

And no way to leave the lab?

With Sumdac as his only company?

Probably also in discomfort given THAT HE IS HOOKED UP LIKE THAT?!

With his ghoulish hand in sight that was/is CLEARLY being used as a chair for an organic?

… Yea. Imagine doing all that, being this close to finaly making progress, and instead being told “Weather bad, no can’t do, wait a while longer”.

So if Sumdac fears enough for the safety of his planet, he’ll surely work faster right? That seems to work somewhat…

Then comes Starscream.

The absolutely last Decepticon Megatron needs right now. So Megatron has to pretend he doesn’t know Starscream tried to kill him. With Starscream CLEARLY planning to kill him for good this time.

He is a head, what can he do?

We can soon see Megatron can take great joy in punishing that fragger, with limited resources he has, while Sumdac finaly works on his body.

The only fun perk of being a “friend of the Autobots” so far.

And then Blitzwing and Lugnut arrive. I swear, I was sure with all the talk Lugnut was doing, there was no way Megatron will actualy get that body.

Good thing they got the Key and that Sumdac didn’t think/wasn’t able to put in any override codes or sound the alarms.

What followed was a gorgeous villain reanimation/reconstruction scene and I loved every second of it. I mean, just look at this. 

So, Megatron finaly has a fresh new body.

He fights the Autobots, (if I start talking about the details, this post will never end), defeats them and does a magnificent job of offlining his SIC.

(Like, I love TFA Starscream. I really do. This purple bastard is a joy to watch, but given what he did, seeing him get offlined in such a dramatic, yet quick and efficient way(and knowing he comes back anyway)… Let’s just say, I was very pleased.)

The “Fuck you Starscream, Die 1.0” however, lets the Autobots escape and the chase begins.

Here I would like to thank the animators for giving both Bots and Cons gorgeous Magical girl-esque transformation scenes, because they are all beautiful BUT MEGATRON, HOLY HELL, I AM LOVING THAT HELICOPTER!

And they are back on the Ark, fighting in much the same way they were the first time, 

But Megatron has no apparent weaknesses, except perhaps being cluttered with little shards of Optimus Prime after he finishes beating on the Autobot. Their one-sided fight carries them into the hold of the ship, where Megatron succeeds in acquiring the AllSpark… 

Megatron manages to GET THE ALLSPARK! 

SO MANY YEARS OF FIGHTING AND SEARCHING, AND HE HAS IT!

And he puts it in his spark chamber. Or in front of it.

…

Megatron. You just put an anchient artifact in your chest.

I… Listen, this is a step above Megan and his SpaceCocaineStraightToSpark Nonesense, BUT ALRIGHT!

I GUESS IT IS “SAFER” THAN HOLDING IT IN YOUR HANDS WHILE FIGHTING AND GLOATING.

Before he can celebrate, he is temporarily downed by Isaac, who knows enough about Megatron’s circuitry to disable his equilibrium sensors—

(”well fuck you too Sumdac”, I mutter to myself) 

but although he drops the AllSpark Key in his stumble, the tyrant isn’t down for long. Megatron is about to finish Prime, when Sari hurls Prime the Key…

the kid Megatron could easily crush when she was standing infront of the Allspark (BUT HE DIDN’T!) throws the key to Optimus.

Who proceeds to jam it into the Allspark.

…

In your chest Megatron.

…

Where your own spark is, Megatron.

For the Lord of Decepticons and quite an old fellow, who I’ve just sung praise to, that was so dumb…

A destabilized Megatron flees the ship before the AllSpark explodes inside his chest, dispersing its energy throughout the atmosphere.

HE BLOWS UP! AGAIN!

This time his body is mostly in one piece, and he has Sumdac as a hostage but…

This Megatron does not have luck on his side.

He really does not.

The only reason he is still functioning is, that he is too stubborn to give up and die. 

The whole “TooStubbornToDie” does seem to be a Megatron trademark, and makes me love his character even more.

TFA Megs. S1 and I already love him so much. 

To finish up this rant of mine…

Frankie just strikes me as someone who would love Mumford and Sons & Fleetwood Mac. I can also see him as the kinda guy who would sit down with a cold bottle of beer and indulge in a video game (probably one of those ones with guns), so having a girlfriend who'd enjoy that as well... he'd feel like he's striked gold! He loves that you study elementary education, despite not wanting kids. It really proves to him that you're a caring, gentle spirit and someone he wants to be around. You're someone who can probably ground him and make him feel safe. He has a young daughter, and she's the love of his life. Immediately, you and his young daughter would click, and that would only make him love you even more. Your generosity and kindness doesn't go unnoticed and Frankie will often wonder what he done to deserve someone as loving as you. He'll go through moments where he needs the reassurance that you won't leave him, and he has an insecurity where he feels like he's not good enough. Never the less, you kiss him and promise him that it'll be okay— and that you love him. Frankie is super protective over you. He doesn't realise it at first, but when he introduces you to the guys, he sees how Pope and Redfly swoon for you; commenting on how Frankie really scored, catching a girl like you. He doesn't think it would bother him, but it does, because he wants you all to himself. If you ever feel like someone has crossed you the wrong way, or someone tries to take advantage of you, Frankie will always have your back and boy, he will defend you with his life.

Writing “Chasing New Dawn” - Characterization and echoes of Fanfictional Roots

A month ago, a facilitator of one of the writing groups I’m part of asked an interesting question. You see, she doesn’t write fiction. Like, at all. And she wondered, with a certain sense of wonder, how those of us who do write fiction make stuff up.

It’s a question that becomes a lot more interesting in my case - seeing as how I’m not exactly starting from scratch.

For the most of you who don’t know it, Chasing New Dawn owns its entire existence to “What Did Zoey Say?.” I wasn’t that big of a fan of Zoey 101 back when it actually aired, but I watched enough episodes that the reunion short film thingy resonated. . And after I finished watching it, the old theme song, the bloody theme song, got stuck in my head. And it wouldn’t leave. For days. Like, I literaly spent two days with the song playing in my head over and over and over... ... Until I had the vision of a power armor snapping into place around Zoey, Iron Man style. 

That was enough to kick the song right out of my head. But the image intrigued me. 

From the get-go, the story itself wasn’t going to be a fanfic. I mean, I could have done a Super Sentai style Zoey 101 AU, but so long as I was going that far off canon, I figured I might as well make it original.

When it comes to characters, doing something original is actually kind of liberating. You don’t have to keep the characters consistent with the source. If anything, the less true to the source you are, the further you get away from the fanfic territory.

As I’ve written before, in the original show, an argument could be made that Quinn was autistic, but it was far from sure thing. But since Riley was an original character, I could run with it. And, because I decided to base her high-functioning autism on my high-functioning autism, I wound up giving her some of my interests (dance music!) and quirks (dealing with stress by pushing my fingernails into the sides of my fingers, the way she isn’t entirely sure what to do with her hands, the aversion to shopping malls). And her backstory was actually inspired by a conversation I had on the train with a guy who grew up in rural Appalachia. 

One thing to keep in mind is that, like I said, I was more of a casual fan of the original show. When I went back to look at the character bios, I realized that there is some important stuff that I just plain forgot - like how Zoey had a younger brother who was on the freaking show. Which, again, is where writing something original comes in handy, because you don’t have to follow any of those things. 

It has been an interesting process. Maddie is clearly inspired by Zoey, but I also kept in mind that I was writing a leader of a senshi team, so she is more strategic, and understands people better than Zoey ever did. And the fact that, unlike Zoey, she grew up in a posh and not very happy family made a difference. Nicole was fiercely loyal to her friends and “boy-crazy” (in a kid-TV friendly way). With Liamhain, I could push that “boy-crazy” part in the way the original show never could - but overall, a lot of her personality was actually based on a sketch I drew while brainstorming. The fact that I wound up drawing a curvier woman with a lot of curly hair, a huge smile and lots of flowing fabric and big artisan jewelry shaped how I developed the rest of the character. Including the fact that she was named “Liamhain” (Originally, I had a placeholder name “Connie,” but it sounded too much like “Corey,” and, once I had a better idea of what her character was like, I decided that she needed an old-school Irish name that would trip up people trying to pronounce it). 

Corey wound up being the closest to his Zoey 101 inspiration. Like Chase, he is a caring, overall decent and quietly supportive person who harbors not-so-subtle feelings for a female lead. I just amped up his idealism and made him more of a rule-follower... And, more fundamentally, I tried to think of the ways his positive qualities, including his devotion to Zoey, could actually work against him. I sort of set a challenge for myself - how could I take the character I was usually inclined to like and make him less likable, while still preserving the fundamentals. 

Tony feels a similar niche as Michael, in that he’s a best friend of female lead’s love interest, and a generally cool and supportive, but... Well, that would be spoilers.

With others, I went further away from their inspirations. Like Logan, Daisuke started out as a rich guy who hit on everything that moved, but, to be honest, I was more thinking of a classic “bad boy love interest” archetype than Logan. And, just as I tried to find something negative about a nice and caring guy, I tried to find some positive traits in a bad boy. And tried to better justify some of the brooding characters like this often do. 

Raveena’s calm and collected, deadpan and generally responsible perfectionist who acts she way she does in response to her upbringing doesn’t have much in common with Lola other than some fashion choices and the fact that she joined the cast later. And while there are some elements of her backstory that Victorious fans would recognize, she’s no Tori Vega, either. And Shelby owes more to, well, Shelby Woo than she ever did to Dana. 

Of course, the fact that in the story’s present, Chasing New Dawn characters are 10 years older, and somewhat wiser, makes a difference, too. It lets me put in more character development, and allows them to evolve a little. 

Like I said, it is kind of weird creative state to be in, because I do sometimes pull elements from the original show. Like, while I was writing what would become the first few chapters, I completely forgot Logan and Quinn dated. I decided that this was an interesting element to bring in... but because, by that point, the characters diverged enough from their inspirations that I had to make up the whole new justification for why they would ever be interested in each other. And Daisuke and Riley wound up having a supportive friendship in their backstory that Logan and Quinn most definitely didn’t have. 

It’s a murky territory - and an interesting creative place to be in. Especially in the age when a Twilight AU got turned into a best-selling book and movie trilogy, and a One Direction RPF fic got turned into a book and a movie while changing literally nothing but names.

Not sure how many had been in the same situation but being told that youre really poor by your parents while somehow your dad can always afford everything he wants is really damn frustrating when growing up.

Like... Dad always had the best cars and big TVs and all those status symbol things. He didnt give a damn about clothes though. But that doesnt matter. Not sure when it started since my brother often talks about all the trips they did together so seems when he was a kid my dad wasnt that bad yet. But I grew upo with being told we dont have money. But only whenever I needed something. Whenever my dad wanted something he just went and bought it. He wanted a new car? So he just went and got one. New TV? Good, just go and buy one. When I needed new pants because who would have known that kids grow but clothes dont? Nope, no money for that. He yelled at mom for “wasting money” when going grocery shopping because he has no idea how much things cost since he never actually went into a store to get food himself. Oh but hes good at buying cars at least. When i asked why we cant go on holiday like all the other kids we suddenly had no money. When I asked for a new TV we suddenly had no money. When I needed new school stuff I was afraid of telling my parents in fear that dad would throw a tantrum When I was around 18 i wanted a new TV and dad said we cant afford it. A week later he came back home with a new TV for 1000€ for himself. When I got angry about this i got yelled at. Like.. I was an adult at that time. I still got yelled at until just 2017 when I bought groceries for our group at the rehab thing cuz the group wallet was already brought back but we forgot to get stuff. I literaly exited the store and already had my mom caling me and yelling at me what I need 30€ for groceries for. Its my own money. Wtf. Now they wonder why I dont throw away old clothes that are ratty, 15 years old and dont even fit. Geeeeeeeez I dunno maybe because Im still afraid of buying stuff for myself because all my life i got yelled at for it? As a kid i actually believed their lie. But as I got older it just didnt add up anymore. How did they manage to pay off a 100.000€ house withing like two years? If youre poor you cant just do that. Why can dad afford a 30.000€ car but not my 5€ socks? Why can he buy a flatscreen and tons of electronic knicknacks he doesnt even know how to use but my computer was second hand because then suddenly we had no money? I was afraid all my childhood about things costing money because io knew my parents would yell at me for wanting something. When my bff and his brothers just went into a store and bought stuff for themselves as kids without assuming their parents would yell I was so floored. And they actually didnt had much money. And yet they were allowed to buy sweets on their own from their own pocket money.

Anyway.... having parents that either coddle you and in the next minute completely ignore you for days and scream at you for every little thing seriously fucks you up.

Made In Abyss: The Story

Oh man.. I have so much to say. *no spoilers in first paragraph*

I apologize in advance if I left out anything important like Kiyui, I’m trying to get at what impacted me most.  Note: I also apologize for switching back and forth between “They” and “She” on Pronouns for Nanachi. I know I did that a couple times and forgot to correct it. The general consensus is that Nanachi is female but No one really knows and its never told in the show so the pronouns **should** be ‘they’ but I’m very tired. I’ve been writing this for upwards of 11 hours now (with breaks) and I cba to go and fix it.  I’m going to explain this story in grave detail in this post, and explain how I feel about it in another. 

So first let me tell you what this anime is about without spoilers, to see if you wanna watch it yourself before I start spoiling. The main character is a young girl (12) named Riko. She lives in an orphanage which teaches their students to cave raid. How that being said, her entire city/town thing has a huge never-ending abyss in the middle of it. This abyss is what they are descending and raiding. How far you can go down is determined by the color whistle you wear. This is because as you descend the abyss, the further and further you go down, the harder it is to come up. This is called ‘The curse of the abyss’. Riko quickly learns that her mother, a legendary white whistle, is possibly still alive down in the abyss. After learning this, Riko decides to go after her, knowing fully well that she will never return to her home-town, or see any of her friends again. Now these are main things in the anime, that everyone knows, and they contain no spoilers as to how or why.  This is one of the most screwed up, saddest most terrible anime’s I’ve seen. And I love it so much. Terrible as in tragic and heartbreaking, and I thought this was going to be one of the cutest anime’s I’ve seen. I was WRONG. Please do not watch this anime if you are easily triggered. 

***SPOILERS AHEAD***

Okay man, I don’t even know where to begin. I’m probably going to whizz past the first like 9 episodes because the last 3 are where the story gets real. I’ll dive right in to say that Riko, while in the abyss, Riko gets attacked by a creature known as the  Crimson Splitjaw. She tries to run away, but to no avail, the Spitjaw corners her. After the Spitjaw corners her this huge flash of light burns through everything in the vicinity and quickly scares off the spitjaw. Riko has no idea what just happened, and she ends up stumbling accross a boy, who seems to be a robot, seemingly the same age. His name came to be Reg. He has no recolection of who he is, or why he saved her. 

Riko and her friends manage to sneak Reg into the orphanage and eventually trick its staff into thinking he is an orphan. Shortly after this, Riko recieves word that her Mother, Lyza the Annihilator’s, white whistle had been found, along with a couple of note pages. One of these notes was addressed to Riko, and it simply said “At the Netherworld’s bottom, I’ll be waiting.” So in short, Riko said “fuck it” and was like “I’m going to look for my mom” and Reg was like:

(sorry I had to, no more out of context memes)  Riko’s friends help guide her to an area of the abyss that isn’t heavily guarded and that her and Reg and his stretchy arm can descend into the abyss. The thing is, they have to get to the second layer before anyone finds them, otherwise they’ll take them back. When a red whistle (basically the lowest level, which they are) descends to the second layer, its considered suicide, and they stop searching.  I don’t remember when, but I do remember that at some point, Riko finds out that her mother actually gave birth to her in the abyss, and that they had to use a curse warding box to get her out alive. Only 2 white whistles in her mother’s squad made it. Her, and Ozen, the Immovable.  I also remember a black whistle telling them about Ozen living at a seeker camp in the Second Layer, the inverted forest. 

Upon reaching the seeker camp, Reg decides to throw his stretchy arms up to the balcony of the seeker camp to try to ascend (obviously, this will have some effect on riko) when someone grabs his hands. Who else but Ozen? Ozen offers them to stay the night with her at the camp while subordinate, Marulk (also a child) stays with them and hangs out with them to gather some information.That night, while they are asleep, Riko ends up needing to use the bathroom. Upon getting up to try to find it, she sees a creature that looks human, but is definitely missing parts. (I tried to upload a picture but Tumblr said no.) After she discovers this thing, she obviously gets spooked, as any 12 year old would, and runs back to the room and crawls in bed with Reg. The morning after, Ozen overhears Riko telling Marulk and Reg what she saw, then proceeds to tell Riko if she can’t handle the truth, to Forget what she saw completely. RIko being Riko, obviously follows her.

On her way up the stairs Ozen  went on to tell Riko that since Lyza’s whistle reached the surface, she is dead. The journey Riko is on to meet her mother is over. and she foudn the Whistle and Notes at a grave.   It is then that Ozen takes them to the curse warding box relic, where she explains more about Riko’s birth and the box. Riko was born stillborn, which means she was born dead, essentially, if you don’t know. But, because of Lyza’s love for her child, she wants to take her late daughter back up the abyss with her, and didn’t want her body to be deformed, so she used the curse warding box. Little did she know that this actually had resurecting powers, and brought Riko back to life from being stillborn. That monster Riko saw, was the result of Ozen putting her dead, cooked, dinner inside the box just to see what would happen.  Ozen mentioned that once brought back, the mysterious thing tried to get to the bottom of the abyss, just like Riko has the longing to reach the bottom.

“Whats interesting is, as soon as you began to move, you, as well as my meat dish, attempted to head to the center of the abyss. Why do you think that is? You of all people might have some thoughts on that. Youre essentially the same of that festering piece of meat.” were here exact words. Marulk then asks her to stop, but she doesn’t. Riko asks “Why would you say that to me?” And Ozen’s response is “Isn’t it obvious? I despise you and your half dead rotten soul” while reaching for Riko. Reg then stops her hand, andddd ozen proceeds to beat him to a bloody pulp. Riko tries to step in but with literaly just a flick of her wrist, Ozen sends riko flying accross the room. As a last resort to save Riko, Reg tries to use his incinerator, but Ozen, strong as she is, makes him point it at Riko, and at a last second he tfrees himself and shoots it up at the ceiling. Now, this royally pissed me off, as it should. She just beat up two children. Who does that??!

Reg passes out, as he does when he uses his incinerator, and wakes up to find a couple of random cave raiders with him, along side Riko and Marul, after Ozen pounds his metal... toppy, thing.. back into his skull. lol Riko obviously in distress hugs Reg crying hysterically.  One of the cave raiders then Reveals why Ozen did what she did. “I know you wanted to test Lyza’s kid and all but you kinda overdid it.” Reg is then outraged and called her fiasco a “sick act”. Her exact reply is “you had to be tested. And if I don’t go all out, I won’t get the point accross. You must know that I hate childish tricks.” And further goes on she never had any intention to actually kill either of them, just that no matter how hard she went, Reg wouldn’t break, so she got more and more into trying to do it. (She’s batshit crazy from the curse of the abyss) “The creatures that inhabit the deeper part of the abyss, they are going to be far more cunning and harsh than I am.” 

“If you continue going on in your current state, you’re going to end up as some poor creatures meal, or you’ll just end up as a bloody stain on the ground somewhere. That said, there’s no guarantee you wont end up the same while I try to beat you into shape. Oh thats right. There is one thing I was decieving you about. That grave I spoke of earlier. There’s no one buried there. Did you think I wouldn’t dig it up to see for myself? Lyza IS waiting for you down there, and you at least need to give it a shot.”  

Then, a cutscene appears showing Ozen and Lyza having a conversationwhile Lyza is just a small red whistle. “I’ve already kicked you twice and you keep coming back. What an unusual little kid you are.” Then some more dialogue not really story important(I don’t think) happens and Lyza asks Ozen to be her mentor. 

Then another appears, when Lyza is bragging to Ozen about her Black whistle where Lyza says “Ozen! Your personality is irredeemable! ...BUT you’re still the best mentor ever :3″  Which now explains why Ozen cared about making sure Reg and Riko are in shape enough to handle their adventure.

It is then that Ozen basically throws them into a forest for 10 days on their own, to see if they can survive, and if they do that means they are worthy enoughto train. Which, spoiler alert, they survive.

During their expedition Ozen ends up getting nostalgic about how Riko came to survive, and explains the story of how Lyza’s love (Riko’s father) had just died, and now her baby was stillborn. “How heartbreaking” She says. “I never wanted to see her in such a state” She speaks to herself, considering leaving the box with the child in it, and carrying and the relic they found up instead, as she turns back around to hear the so-thought-dead baby crying inside the curse-warding box. “You can relax child. I am cursed with a strong sense of duty.

When Riko and Reg come back from their training, Ozen explains that when she visited the 5th layer she intended to stay down there only for a few weeks, but when she resurfaced, it had been a couple of months. She then goes on to explain that they have no way of knowing how this time-warp manifests in the 6th or 7th layers, and that she has a feeling that not as much time has passed for lyza. Its been 10 years on the surface, but its a possibility that only a fraction of that time has gone by where she is, and that Lyza is most likely very much alive and well. 

After everyone says their goodbyes a new cutscene comes across as Ozen and Lyza, as a new mother, are having a conversation. ‘My daughter riko is incredibly prescious to me. No matter the relic or whatever else I could offer as payment, its not enough. Thanks to a miriad of priceless things that girl is alive right now. If I continue to stay with her, i’m liable to take away her right to set off on adventures of her own. Plus  I myself would likely give up trying to reach for the abyss. So before that happens, I’m going to head out, so my girl is free to choose the path she wishes.” She then asks Ozen to make sure to tell Riko “about how shes a living corpse”  about how its a miracle she’s alive. And asks her to teach her how to tackle the obstacles in her way.  She says that Lyza should tell her the miracle part herself, but agrees to send Riko down to her. 

(I had to watch it again to get the wording, and i’m crying. xD) Also Hi, Lyza is so freaking pretty 

(I am leaving something out that isn’t very story relevant I dont think, its about a small child. I’ll talk about it in another post, but I’m literally only at episode 9 out of 13 and i still have so much to say. The post will be Titled “Kiyui’s Birthday”) Since the entire 3rd layer is a 4000m verticle drop down a circular shaft, Riko and Reg set out to try to reach the fourth layer of the abyss. The decent is full of a bunch of tunnels they need to go through. Riko and Reg end up being attacked by a Madokajack, and Reg ends up having to use his incinerator, shortly after the same crimson redchin that reg hurt before finds them and seeks revenge, I dont remember how much they manage escaping and then Reg passes out, leaving Riko alone and hungry trying to find food for herself. Dragging Reg along with her,  she ends up in the stomach of an Amakagame that baited her with the smell of Baracocha fruit. This smell is used to mainly bait the small Neritantan creatures, but Riko was hungry and well, you know how that goes. She ends up cutting herself out of the creature’s stomach, which explodes with the smell of fruit. Hundreds of Neritantan start to surround her and ultimately chase her because they think she’s the fruit. 

They chase her into a ditch, and eventually a tunnel that she needs to get out of, but unfortunately... the only way out is an upwards incline.. I’ll lay it out for you here. She’s on the 3rd layer. She goes for it, like the strong willed 12 year old she is. Not 5 steps upwards and she already feels the weight of the curse. She starts to hallucinate severely and pictures herself with her mother, saying the curse doesnt affect them and they can go home now. But, Reg is gone. When Riko realizes Reg is not in her hallucination is where she REALIZES it is a hallucination, saying that “Without reg this was pointless, without Reg, I’ll die!” She then perserveres to the top of the incline, Reg in tow, and falls, when all of a sudden, the crimson red chin that Reg hurt before found them, and Reg uses Lyzas pickaxe thing that i forgot to mention to clobber it.

Okay. From here on out almost A LOT OF THE STORY will be triggering and I’m going to go into gruesome detail. Images, Story points. Everything. This is literally the part I’ve been waiting to talk about. And even I’m going to have to go through watching it again to make sure my facts are accurate.  THE LAST BIT of this will be ENTIRELY Triggering material. 

Reg and Riko have finally gone down far enough to reach the Fourth Layer, the Goblets of Giants. Riko and Reg start walking through the Goblts of warm steamy water, unable to see much. While descending and exploring the fourth layer, Reg sees a figure in the fog. Obviously startled, Riko comes in to see what’s the matter. 

Riko’s demeanor immediately turns scared as she says “Don’t go near it. We need to run for it. That thing is an Orb Piercer! Their quills can penetrate even steel and they’re laced with poison. More than 100 cave raiders have already been killed by these things.” Reg grabs onto riko and attempts to evade the creature but the creature essentially predicted his path and struck an attack. They were unharmed, but their backpack was broken and items flew out onto the ground. 

They still have (this random umbrella i literally dont remember them  receiving AT ALL) and they use it to try scare the Orb Pierver, since it recoils from anything bigger than itself. Reg then screams, opens the umbrella, and it turns out to be small as hell. The agutated creature IMMEDIATELY ATTACKS THEM with its quills, and when Reg turns around to tell Riko they need to try to run, he sees that RIko has been pierced. 

Reg pulls out the quill, obviously causing Riko a lot of pain, as he tries to find a way out. He ties her arm with rope to slow the poison from getting to the rest of her body. Reg realizes that the only way out is up.. But they’re on the fourth layer, and that would cause Riko intense pain and bleeding. He shows reluctance until Riko says “You gotta do it, we have to Reg.” When they get up to a higher Goblet, Reg sets Riko down only to see that for some reason she isn’t bleeding, but her hand is oozing. They then come to the conclusion that maybe the curse is spilling the poison out of her body instead of her blood..Nope. 

Bamboozled. 

Riko is having terrible hallucinations at this point but Reg has no idea what to do to save her from the poison thats going to course through her body any minute. He looks over and sees that her hand is completely swollen and bloated. He tried to take off her glove but she screams in agony. Reg apologizes profusely and asks her what to do, and for her help asking how he can save her becasue he has no idea. 

Riko: Cut it.. Reg: Huh?! Riko: Please.. Cut it.. cut it off... Reg: you don’t know what you’re saying. If I do that you’ll never be able t- Riko: Reg, please, just do it. If you can’t do it, I’ll die. Please Reg, I’m really scared. I’m so scared. 

Reg pulls out his knife as Riko instructs him further on what to do.  Struggling to breathe and stuttering as she talks.  Riko: Listen to me, Reg. You’re gonna have to break the bone first.. A black whistle who had this happen, he said cutting it was tough.  He grabs a rock and preps her arm. 

And gives her something to bite down on.  (I’m cringing as I write this becase I have to watch it again. I thought he smashed her arm with the rock but I’ve never watched the scene to see what he actually does.) He puts her arm over the rock and cracks her bone in two over each side of the rock. 

Literally causing her to writhe in agony.  (its blurry in Reg’s vision. 

He starts to cut her arm but suddnely bugs swarm them and he needs to fend them away. After he does that he realizes Riko isn’t breathing, at all. 

He starts screaming out and crying about not leaving him behind. For a good 2 and a half minutes he’s screaming and crying. And then all of a sudden you hear a voice say “You are very noisy...” (which absolutely cracked me up for SOME REASON, even though I was crying my eyes out) The person tells him that Riko’s heart is still beating, but weakly, and he needs to get her breathing.  

The person then instructs Riko on how to do mouth to mouth ressusitation, and he ends up getting Riko to breathe again. Mysterious Person-Thing then takes Reg and Riko to their hide out where they reveal they’re a Hollow named Nanachi. And on the way to the hideout they say “The curse isn’t present here” Reg looks confused and Nanachu says “Oh.. I guess you can’t see it..” This is important later. 

Nanachi then explains that many cave raiders have had this issue, but they don’t know how to treat it. She has a medicine to give Riko, buuuutttt since they cant give it orally “We have to use the other end”  (I honestly just like Reg’s face here xD)

Nanachi proceeds to remove the broken bone fragments, and stitch up the blood vessels and flesh, and sees that Riko has severely damaged nerves, while neatly stitching her up. 

Nanachu asks why Reg didn’t just cut it off at the elbow joint instead of breaking her arm, and he says he was just following Riko’s orders. Nanachi admits their admiration for Riko, as they explain that if the part past the elbow is left in tact then it totally changes what one can do when cave raiding. She was still determined to press on, even though she went through everything she just went through. They also explain that literally everything they’ve done since the 4th layer, Nanachi was watching them. Nanachi explains that they didn’t help the 2 because its dangerous for her to show themselves, but she started to pity Reg, and she couldn’t stand it anymore. They hear a little “Waaaaah?” In the distance and Reg asks if Nanachi lives with anyone. “Just my roommate, come meet her. This is my cute little Mitty”

Reg: What.... is that?? Nanachi: This child is also a hollow. R: What? N: Have you heard the perils of ascending from the 6th layer? R: I was told that it causes the loss of humanity. Or even death at times N: right. If someone survives, this is what becomes of them. Their personality and intelect vanish. The person becomes a holow husk of who they once were. No matter how hard they’ve tried, no one’s ever gone back to how they were. That trick you did with your extending arm.. just thinking about what would happen if you did that on the sixth layer is pretty thrilling.  R: But Nanachi, you don’t look anything like that! N: well yeah, there’s a reason for that, but I’m an exception among exceptions, so dont get your hopes up too much. That reminds me. If a cave raider ever becomes a hollow, their fellow cave raiders kil them and collect their belongings. Given the alternative, I suppose its better to tell people they died. Imagine what would happen if I went like this out in the open. I’m living proof that its possible to return from the 6th layer while still retaining some sense of humanity. Naturally, people would come capture me if they could. Revealing myself to a group of cave raiders is a big risk for me. even if its just out of pity, saving someone is a good thing, right?

After this conversation, Nanachi sends Reg to get a bunch of stuff intended for saving Riko. Except.. it wasn’t. One thing was. The rest was literally just to make dinner. The Ingredient to save Riko: Shroombears. They are bears that have a fungi called Watermushrooms. They’re parasidic. When it looks like their host is going to die, they share their nutrients to revive their host. Nanachi stitches some WaterMushrooms to her wound, to help with the bone healing, and help prevent her flesh from rotting, but they hurt like crazy to pull off. 

Mitty, for some reason, decided to crawl up on Riko and lay on her. And Reg dislikes this, and Mitty seems to be yelling at him for yelling at her. Nanachi explains that Mitty has never grown this fond of any visitors before, that Riko and Mitty are close in age and Mitty was a little girl before this happened to her. After Reg asks mitty not to eat the mushrooms Nanachi had this to say N: Shes not one to ever treat other so cruelly. It was thanks to her that we got the poison out so soon R: whaddaya mean? N: that medicine was made by injecting Mitty with an orb Piercers poison. She has the ability to neutralize poison all on her own. So naturally i decided to use her blood to produce the medicine. 

Riko remembers what Nanachi said about the curse not being present, and asks them to tell him how to evade the curse. Nanachi explains that they feel its useless to tell someone who can’t even see it. Reg immediately gets up in their face and begs them.So the nature of the curse is as follows: (Nanachi uses a clear cloth to explain) The curse is flowy and natural like an invisible blanket, piled on layer by layer. Even if you poke it, you won’t feel it. Even breathing is enough to alter its flow. When you touch it, it warps. 

They explain that as you go up, once you finally break through, the symptoms hit you all at once. If its something like your finger you’ll hardly be effected but if its your head or chest or a vital part.. well.. not good.  (this was hard for me to understand so I’m gonna try to explain as best I can with almost word for word from Nanachi’s explanation)

Reg asks why You can descend and nanachi explains like this It has a flow similar to inverted thorns which wont allow you to leave. And they draw a picture explaining their meaning. Its just like a trap for its prey. 

The curse was inactive around Nanachi’s hideout because the curse gets weakened the father you get from the verticle shaft. Its a forcefield. It will even alter its flow to someones consiousness. Orb Piercers aren’t intuitive, they can preduct the future because the forcefiels allows it. Which is why as you go further down the abyss the creatures become more difficult of a fight. Nanachi then has an idea to help Reg experience it, even though he can’t see it. nanachi places a microphone/speaker thing inside his helmet and instructs him to do EXACTLY what they say no matter what.  The scene changs to Riko and Mitty, and gets closer to Mitty’s eye. You then se a depiction of a creature, that slightly resembles Riko, crying We then see this

We then see this, and I’m confused as to how this doesn’t scare the child more. But from that eyeball, is even more, Louder crying than the skin girl was.  

These are the next few scenes, and they’re not explained, but they’re important for later.  A new scene shows reg walking through one of the Goblets with nanachi talking to him in his ear. From a distance, Reg hears a whistle beoing blown, and against Nanachi’s ordes, he ran to see who it was. It was a black whistle, fighting the same orb piercer. He advises Reg not to get any closer. 

Nanachi gives him specific instructions that no matter what happens do what he says, and dispose of the Orb Piercer. She had him look up, and commit to the act. Then  jump hard, to the right. 

With that jump, reg had the piercer by the nose. This is the organ it uses to sense the forcefield. After he confuses it, he ties it with his stretchy arms, and then blasts it with his incinerator. 

WHile Nanachi is amazed by his incinerator, Reg approached the black whistle, again, against the command of Nanachi. He asked the cave raider to bring a message up to someone at the Belchero Orphanage. “we’re continuing our adventure” The black whistle agrees. After Nana and Reg meet back up, Reg asks nanachi if they’d like to come with him and Riko. To which Nanachi had their own question for Reg. “I want you to... kill Mittty for me.” Then the scene jumps to a flashback of Mitty on nanachi’s back in the cold winter as Nanachi speaks to Mitty.  “I’m sorry for running away like thisbut I just cant let him do it anymore. Not as he pleases.  I promise I’ll figure something out for us.”

This is the end of episode 12. The finale of the show, episode 13, Is based around Mitty and Nanachi’s story. 

Nanachi, as a child came from a very unweathy place. She is sleeping on the floor saying to herself that they’d like to go to the bottom of the abyss. There is a commotion outside and a bunch of children are running to see what’s up. A boy Yells at nanachi, and pushes them saying “you stink get away from me” When they reach where the commotion is coming from, the white whistle bondrewd is standing in a door way with all the children clammoring “What’s he doing all the way out here” He asked for volunteers that are suitable for forging a path to the next era. Basically asking who wanted to go into the abyss with him. Nanachi, along with many other children took the offer. Out of the corner of her eye she saw a girl standing there, being bullied by a young boy. The same boy that was being mean to nanachi telling the girl “I dont hang out with idiots!”

After this, they show the children descending into the abyss, into the 5th layer, having barely anything to eat, but all supplied with blankets and bland food. Finally, Mitty approaches Nanachi and asks what they wants to be when they grow up, and explains that she, herself wants to become a white whistle. Nanachi said that she was fine with anything. All the other kids in her village would steal for food or neg for money, but that was never their thing. Saying “if you’re fine with whatever then we should be partners! My name is Mitty, a future white whistle! Who’re you?” I’m not sure how long it took them to descend but it seemed like quite a while. 

After this, they stayed up late at night reading and learning new things about the abyss, studying while all the children are sleeping. The two are inseperable from this point on. Bondrewd advises them to please not climb more than 10 meters, because they’ll be hit with the curse if they do. Nanachi and Mitty obviously in awe seeing the 5th layer.

All of the children seem to be put in a singular room to hang out with each other for their time there. (one of these kids looks like Gasai Yuno) Nanachi and Mitty spend their time drawing and researching more about the abyss, but as you get a look around the room there are significantly less children than before. One by one a child will leave and for some reason, never return. 

nanachi and Mitty hope they’re allowed to go out together. Then, while they’re asleep, Bondrewd calls Mitty out to go with him. Nanachi asks to go with her but Bondrewd says “you’ll get your turn Nanachi”

But nanachi being impatient and worried about her new-found best friend leaves the room anyway. She overhears A black whistle and Bondrewd talking.  Whistle: Sovereign of Dawn, I dont understand your reasoning. Bringing this many people down to the fifth layer? Even children from overseas?? Bondrewd: Why are you bringing this up now? it is for this purpose that I advocated to have black whistles enter the fifth layer W:its just.. it’d be different if they were cave raiders. But taking children who will never be able to return? its unhumane. B: ah. then there is no reason to worry. I am not making use of them as humans. I’m sure you understand. Care to have a look?

Nanachi then makes the dumb decision to start running to try to find Mitty. When she does, Mitty is trapped in a glass cylander  From here will be significantly shorter between pictures. 

Bondrewd comes up behind Nanachi.  B: Well, what have we here? What perfect timing you have Nanachi. Come, its your turn now. 

“That elevator is capable of going quickly down to the depths of the 6th layer, although its destination is no more than a dead end

Its the perfect depth for testing out many-a-things. Its my own miniature garden. 

The 6th layer’s curse is death, or loss of one’s humanity. And I’d like to do something about that

The chambers you’re situated in are capable of switching the curse all to one side. Attempts were made at pairing a person with a non-human, but those attempts were unsuccesful. However, Nanachi has decided to join us.  Mitty, You will be on the side to which the curse is driven. Please do your best to endure it. If you die halfway through, your partner will be hit with the curse. 

The pure terror in their eyes breaks my heart. 

And then. He pulls the lever. 

It was then clearly depicted what Bondrewd meant by his “garden”

“nanachi! Its alright. I promise! I’ll get through this. But if. If for some reason I end up not being Human anymore”

PLease let my soul return to you. Nanachi promise me!

Right after this, nanachi yells out for mitty, then the elevator starts heading back upwards. I don’t even want to explain. Just have pictures. 

At this point you hear Mitty plead for Nanachi to kill her. 

After this happens Nanachi basically becomes Bondrewd’s pet. Helping him with certain things, and research.

He explains that he now understands the curse Mitty received. He reveals that it did more than just cause her to lose her humanity. IT also made her incapable of dying.   The picture below was the 9th time she’s been resurrected. The only change is that her form becomes slightly more distorted. 

This, among obvious other things, is what caused Nanachi to run away. 

But no matter what Nanachi tried, Mitty just suffered. She promised that she would find a way to kill mitty without making her suffer through life anymore. 

The scene then goes back to when Mitty promted Reg with this question 

Reg asks to think about it a little bit. nanachi explains that Mitty answering when she’s called and other reactions are just reflexed. Real interaction has proved impossible for her. And that by looking at her eye, she has a strong feeling mitty’s soul is imprisoned in that body. 

Mitty still continues to obsess over Riko 

After they make something terrible to eat, Reg decides that he will go along with killing Mitty, and tells Nanachi the next day.  Reg just asks how Nanachi is sure that Mitty isn’t happy. “Well, when I die, which of course I will, Mitty will be alone forever. Can you imagine? Mitty never eats and she still doesnt die, but if she gets stabbed it hurts and she still sheds tears of pain. even if those are just mere reflexes she’d still be forced to endure her endless suffering forever. She’s not even capable of screaming out. Her soul would just remain imprisoned for all eternity. Reg this is my last chance to end her pain. You have the power to set her free. Please. I’m afraid an opportunity wont present itself like this.”

He says he will on one condition: That Nanachi does not commit suicide once Mitty is gone. She agrees, and promises. They set up a really pretty deathbed for her. 

But just as Reg starts to power up his incinerator, a hysterical nanachi can be heard screaming “STOP IT!”

“Mitty I’m so sorry, I was wrong I should have tried more. I’m so so sorry.

Listen to me. We’ll always be together,okay?

My sweet Mitty, you feel so warm. 

Thank you 

SHe heads back over to Reg and says “okay I’m ready now.”

And a very sad, and hesitant Reg then blasts her with the incinerator. 

And then there you see mitty, being basically ripped to shreds, but with no painful tears in her eyes, and still making the same, non painful sounds, she normally did. 

Nanachi turns around to look at whats happening, with tears in her eyes 

Honestly this is one of the most heartbreaking cries I’ve ever heard in an anime. Most of them are like, you try to stifle a laugh but this made me bawl my eyes out and I’m crying as I’m writing this because I’m listening to it for the screenshots. 

Nanachi yells at Reg to leave her alone, but he keeps hugging them and cries with them. 

After this, reg ended up passing out from using his incinerator and wakes up to RIko finally being awake, and helping teach Nanachi how to cook.  Some comic relief strikes up as riko praises nanachi telling them they’re doing such a good job while snuggling up to her fur. 

Riko, then randomly asks if someone else lived here. When prompted with why she’s asking. She goes on to explain that she was having a nightmare, where she was closed in a bolder like thing. And it wouldn’t budge. There was a cavity that was the same size as her that kept getting smaller and smaller. She was lost. (and then the depictions from before came back up again)  “I didn’t know who or what I was anymore. KI even forgot how to speak. I was so scared I just kept crying. 

and I heard more crying. But not from me. It was coming from someone else

At first it kind of scared me, but then i realized it was another girl. and she was scared too. It helped ease my mind if even a little. 

So we just stayed like that for quite a while. 

Whevener I got scared, there was that girl who was even more frightened that I was. I couldn’t speak.. but with my eyes I kept on telling her that it was going to be alright. Then I smelled something like smoke, and the crying finally stopped. 

And well, that girl left without ever looking back

But when I looked at her, she was just like all of the other cave raiders I’ve seen, her eye had an insatiable longing and just like that i remembered what I always wanted to be one day.” 

And then she had a feeling, that she would some day see that girl again, and then she woke up. 

Then Riko and Reg take a bath in some waters, while Nanachi teases them about Reg having a boner, and how they feel about each other. 

After this peaceful scene comes more painful when they have to take the mushrooms off of Riko.

I’m guessing a few days or weeks later, Riko is attempting to move her hand at all, but cant. And ends up getting her thumb to wiggle. 

Reg comes over completely upset, and apologizes to Riko for mangling her arm. RIko explains that Nanachi told her how uoset he was when he though she was dying and how seeing her like that reminded Nanachi of her with Mitty, which i why she helped them. Riko is thankful for the scar because its proof that Reg protected her. 

When Nanachi comes back out Riko asks her to go with them. And Nanachi says yes, Saying that Mitty would be mad if they abandoned the two.  and then Reg tackle hugs them. 

They all send up a package in a hot air balloon that goes through multiple layers and probably months of time to get there. It even gets caught on the second layer, and marulk and the cave raiders sew it together and send it back up. 

The entire credit scene is based on the air balloon message and Reg, Riko, and Nanachi getting ready to leave to continue their journey.  Unfortunately. The last few scenes show Bondrewd, and a bunch of lights. One, I believe to be Mitty’s not lit up. 

“congratulatiuons Nanachi, you finally managed to do it. I would like to express the extent of my gratitude. I hope very soon I’ll get to see you once again. 

AND THEN IT FADES TO BLACK. AND I AM DONE WITH THIS.  This story is so messed up. I love it. (because its wholesome and I wat some damn justice for Nanachi and Mitty) And I can’t wait to see Bondrewd get kis ass handed to him. I hope the movie comes out soon and i understand it. I rate this anime 10/10 to be honest. I’ll put more about how I feel in another post but its 2AM and I’m goin to bed. If you read this far, Thank you! <3
