Taking Shay's invitation, Capital takes a seat besides it. "Such a lovely place this is, no?" they ask, taking a glance around. "Though there does not seem to be a lot to do here." They gesture towards the green pool and the rainbow rift. "Perhaps you could "shed some light" on what you do here...?"
"Haha, nice bit of wordplay there..." Shay smiles and thinks on Capital's words. Truthfully, there wasn't all that much to its job, at least to its own perspective on everything. But then again, it has been doing this since... well, the entirety of eternity, it had to assume.
"Most of my days are spent right where we're sitting... Though, 'days' is in quotations, since the rules of time don't apply here..."
"While it had to take a backseat to keep an eye out for the warning signs of the Hollow, my job is usually watch over the inhabitants of the world, as well as their dreams..." Shay's glowing pupils, both the ones on its face and its flowers, take on a noticeably greenish color as it gazes into the pool. A few stray embers in the same hue surround its body, swirling into a small wreath of green flame just below the collar helping contain its power, in a shade not too unlike that of a Lunar Wing.
Slowly, an image of Eris sharing a nice dinner with an older Alolan Ninetales and a Typhlosion fades into view within the pool. A reunion that can never be, but one she still dreams of, despite her insistence to the contrary... As quickly as its shown, the image fades back into the normal glowing green hue, and the flames surrounding Shay's neck peter out.
"Of course, there are a few cases where I simply must intervene in your world, either to help avert its devastation, or to rein in my counterpart..." Shay's pupils return to normal as it looks away from the pool. ... Towards the massive rift in the sky, leading into a white space, a blank canvas. "As you can see from the giant hole in the sky leading to the rest of the multiverse, I failed in the latter part... Failed horribly in fact."

Pokémon Crossover AU
Been working on some Pokémon crossover AU ideas for all my stories lately, mostly starting out as just team ideas for my characters before I thought about how they would fit into the world of Pokémon. Since the Hue Shifters characters here come from a more “fantasy” setting(though it is modern/contemporary fantasy), it has been an interesting challenge trying to translate them into the world, but the biggest challenge was because they are all supernatural creatures/monsters themselves. I tried looking up to see if they exist in the Pokémon world but I couldn't really find anything, so I just omitted that information for the moment and tried my best to still make them fit in the world. If that all makes sense! One extra detail about this AU in particular, but I decided to give Coral, Saffron, and Primrose all one bat Pokémon each, since they are all vampires and it was just fitting.
But yeah, I hope you enjoy! :3
=============================================================
- Hyacinth
Tumblr media
. Works primarily with grass types
. On his team he has Sawsbuck, Stantler, Bellossom, Shiftry, Lilligant, and Gogoat
. One day when he was a kid he followed his sisters into the woods on a search for new Pokémon, but soon an accident happens that causes him to not only get separated from them, but have him eventually wake up in a new location with little memories of the event
. He has spent the rest of his life since then scouring the depths of each region, hoping to find his sisters again
- Azure
Tumblr media
. Works primarily with psychic types, but does work with some water types due to growing up near the ocean
. On his team he has Primarina, Bruxish, Malamar, Espeon, Medicham, and Overqwil
. Grew up in a very big and dysfunctional family that made him all the eager to get out and travel as soon as he could
. Starts off battling and making many rivals, before eventually becoming a successful coordinator and model, seemingly doing a lot better in life now(though he still feels like something is missing in his life)
- Coral
Tumblr media
. Works with a few types, but primarily enjoys dark and flying types
. On her team she has Gliscor, Raticate, Murkrow, Mandibuzz, Grimmsnarl, and Hitmonchan
. Second-born daughter to a powerful crime syndicate, growing up she always felt overshadowed by her older sister
. Due to feeling like she doesn’t quite fit in with her family and being seen as an ‘outcast’ by her peers in the community she grew up in, when she was old enough she abdicated her role in her family’s organization to instead focus on battling and becoming a champion
- Maris
Tumblr media
. Works primarily with water types
. On her team she has Wartortle, Golduck, Omastar, Cloyster, Kingler, and Milotic
. Started off as a researcher before getting interested in journalism
. Often goes undercover to investigate the larger crime teams of the world, planning to use her findings to not only alert the public, but hopefully get the more powerful ones taken down
- Saffron
Tumblr media
. Works primarily with fire/fighting types
. On his team he has Golbat, Emboar, Infernape, Skeledirge, Ninetales, and Scrafty
. Doesn’t have any super big aspirations in life, mostly just plays video games and do fun and cute internet things with his ‘mons
. Cousin to Coral, becomes more interested in participating in actual battles thanks to her influence
- Marigold
Tumblr media
. Works primarily with fairy types
. On her team she has Florges, Dedenne, Ribombee, Hattrem, Beautifly, and Vespiquen
. Comes from a very rich and powerful family, had a lot of pressure put on her to succeed which caused her to run away one day, where she then bumps into some older kids with “scary” Pokémon that thought it would be funny to rough her up a bit(this is where she gets her scar)
. After that she wanted to build up her physical combat and Pokémon battling skills to ensure it wouldn’t happen again, but her true interests lie with modelling
- Gracen
Tumblr media
. Works primarily with rock types
. On his team he has Onix, Golem, Rhyperior, Marowak, Excadrill, and Golurk
. Second-born son of a rich but humble family, he never stood out much compared to his ‘flashier’ and more successful brother, but doesn’t mind as he prefers staying out of the spotlight
. Had a close relationship/crush situation with his childhood best friend Amethyst, but after she goes missing one day he becomes a lot more withdrawn as he feels a part of him is now missing
- Primrose
Tumblr media
. Works primarily with poison types
. On her team she has Swoobat, Venomoth, Seviper, Sneasler, Salazzle, and Drapion
. Eldest daughter to a powerful crime syndicate, has been chosen since she was young to become the next leader someday
. Always charismatic and well-liked, she has won numerous contests and showcases but she is also a strong trainer in her own right too, as she was expected to become strong at Pokémon battles to help ensure no one can threaten her family’s business

Shiny fix - What would you do? (Share your ideas)
Vulpix - Im not 100% happy with it but I wanted it to resemble shiny ninetales, I used a lilac-gray but it can also be brown-gray. Or a nicer hues for the gold shiny, more like a gold statue less like it has a weird overlay filter.
Eevee - Ditched the yellow and explored the blue undertones of the mane from the og shiny. Or a nicer shade of pale brown instead of yellow-green
Nickit - A thief works better at night, a dark gray-brown coat would fit
Alolan Vulpix - Not much changed aside from taking a bit of inspiration on cotton candy and adding a more saturated pink and some blue parts
Cant fix what is not broken
Zorua & Fennekin
Shiny guess
Hisuian Zorua - Zorua’s blue-red palette is gorgeous I hope they keep it

DWC2021-2 Wander/Blame
- [Music] -
“I found the coordinates, we can do this. We can go home.”
Kou stood there, mapping out through the stars in his study deep within the Ebon Tower. Pacing back and forth a moment, the coattails of the fox-eared humanoid flared behind him with every dramatic turn as his eyes remained on the chart before him.
‘Are you sure about this?’
“It’s fine, Kallie. Ready to move the Tower.”
‘Last time you did this, you were VERY wrong, you know. AND, it almost killed you. Do I need to remind you that if YOU die, this entire--’
“Will you shut up for like, ten seconds today? We’ll be FINE. I found the desert and the star system. Ready to move the Tower.”
The voice fell silent but soon the runes on the building ignited, glowing into a bright systematic wave of energy, every stone etched with a spell carved deep into it. The ground trembled, vibrating the sand off of the blackened architecture and just as Kou raised his arms slowly, he drew in his own power to connect himself to the runes surrounding him. Tails unfurled to reveal all eight that swayed, glowing their own particular aura of innate magic, even revealing a stump of what was once a ninth, the remnants of fire barely flicking from it. Eyes snapped open, revealing the blind hues that lit up with a feverish, golden glow.
Tumblr media
Each rumbling shift of his Tower echoed through the building, all doors sealed, every portal safely closed to assure his students remained in their quarters during the transfer. The very energy poured from his form, streams of Kou’s own essence seeped into the floor under him.
Next to him, the spirit of the Tower formed, Kalypso in all of her glory stood next to her owner, the blue robe-clad woman took a moment to flick a few strands of snowy hair from her face. She looked tired, irritated, and clearly not happy about the next shift, yet… If they made it home…
‘Everyone is in place, Headmaster.’ She teased just to rile the fox a moment, a small smirk formed on her face. Though it was a serious moment, Kallie did try to lighten the mood.
Kou huffed lightly but he did outstretch his fingers while his gaze narrowed, feeling his own life being leeched away. “Here we go…” Muttering under his breath, wanderers of The Ebon Tower felt the sudden jarring pull of time itself. It was simple to vanish from their previously parked spot but the torment within the Tower was suddenly thrust through a ping-pong of worlds. Gravity shifted, time altered, every thread of fate plucked at in order to get home… He had hoped, at least. The golden runes that protected Kalypso and the Tower itself faded, darkening into a deep purple as if becoming corrupted by another source.
Tumblr media
‘Kou… Something’s wrong.’
When the Kitsune didn’t answer, Kallie turned to look where he was supposed to be and instead of the calm pose he had, his form was writhing around, shifting and twisting into various versions of himself… Otherworldly versions of a Ninetales, a Kitsune, a normal fox, and then...
‘KOU!’
The world was crashing down.
Everything shook violently as the fox-like figure was trying his hardest to keep the monster of a Mage Tower under control. The entire powerhouse of energy had been violently torn into another world and landing in a new time, a new unknown place, it was all a mess. Books, shelving, everything crashed to the floor, shattering to pieces as screams of the inhabitants of the tower echoed all through the fox’s ears when they broke into an atmosphere, hurling straight towards a desert below. And then...
Darkness.
Nothing.
Just a painful, high-pitched ringing in his ears. Oh, gods, how badly his head hurt.
‘Kou..!’
The voice sounded so far away. Muffled.
Kallie…
‘KOU!’
I hear you...
‘Wake up… Kou wake up. Kou I’m not fucking kidding, I will end your heartbeat if you don’t wake up!’
The displaced voice echoed in the fox’s head as his eyes fluttered open to look around, his entire study was destroyed. He had collapsed on the floor, every bone in his body ached, begging for death. It was always this way. He felt weak, displaced, and further away from home than he had ever been.
Hands pushed hard at the floor to try and pull his sore body up, the very essence of moving the Ebon Tower drew nearly all of the life force from his toned form. Stumbling to his feet, the Illusionist limped towards the window to look out the cracked glass, nothing in sight but desert.
For a moment, he thought… Maybe… Maybe this was Anhkere again.
‘Well, that was a GREAT landing.’
Inhaling deeply, a hand waved off the echoing voice pestering him, the thick growl in the fox’s voice sounded. “Go check on the students…” He hadn’t even noticed he was bleeding from his head, staining the snowy white locks of hair that framed the darkened face. The fading gold from his eyes flickered back to the blind, milky hues once more.
Taking his time to limp to the exit, The Ebon Tower had landed crookedly into the sand dunes below and once the door opened, Kou was able to assess the dire situation. Sure, they were in a desert, but there was no Ankhere, there was no Drachenkrone. Kou had begun to wonder if this desert was even the correct homeworld.
There was only one way to find out.
Sticking a foot out, Kou left the safety of his Tower just to see if he would stay the same shape he was able to keep. When feet hit the sands, a swirl of golden energy overtook his form, shortening the already semi-short male even further until he blinked, furrowing at the oddity of his body. Paws trailed down his now furred physique, feeling over what his eyes could not see, the very feeling of sand between pads on his feet… He wasn’t a gijinka, he wasn’t even a feral… Kou had been transformed into something else entirely.
There, in the middle of the desert, now stood a blind, snowy Vulpera who raised his useless vision to look around, large ears atop his head swiveled and swirled to listen for anything familiar. There truly was nothing.
Tumblr media
Frustration boiled over, the blame on nothing and no one but himself, and yet as his head hung a moment, Kallie approached, remaining in the door to watch her successor silently. She could feel the wandering fox’s frustrations and yet somehow it actually hurt her to watch Kou tilt his head back and scream, the bellowing vocals shook the male’s entire body until he collapsed to his knees.
The bickering stopped.
Kalypso approached to kneel by Kou to see that he had covered his face with his hands, his vocal cords strained from every frustrated snarl and painful sound he belted out. A hand had reached for him only to retract when Kou started to violently punch at the sand below him.
“I HAD IT! I FUCKING HAD IT! THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE HOME!”
‘Kou…’
“THIS..! This was supposed to be home…”

Huevember 14, inspired by suggestions from people in my Discord server as I streamed this. One suggested I attempt to design a ghost-type fakemon with today’s hue, and another suggested more specifically a ghost-type Ninetales variant.

.:The Time In-between:. (AU2)
Characters: Hokusai Ashikaga (kitsune heritage/human)
Rating: Blood and scary things. Alternate universe warning!
Origin Date: 19 March 2019
As He-Lin is away to culminate his final bits of cultivation training in China, Hokusai is left on his own in the prison that is the Hanakaze temple. He does his best to wait for his dear one but the abuse at the hands of the radical priests drives the young man to the breaking point.
(Just wanted to get something out of my system for one of the alternate universe RP settings @ninetales-carbuncle and I came up with a few months ago. Modern day with some cultivation ties inspired by Mo Dao Zu Shi.)

---------
The markets were busy as expected over the hot summer weekend. Not only did the things that were not quite human come forth, those that were quite human flocked to the yokai markets to peruse the wares that appeared. They was much more of a variety over obon as some of the spiritual world residents that normally could not claw their way into the human plane managed to leak through for three days of insanity.
Insanity as in shopping. This yokai market was the largest within Japan, even connected via spiritual ways to a sister venue in China. Perhaps that’s why he picked it despite his loathing of crowded places. For all accounts he appeared and gave off a sense of a human. Only the more perceptive could sense otherwise.
Rusted golden eyes peered under the brim of the ajirogasa. Why he’d stopped at this particular booth, he didn’t know. The merchant, something with demon blood by its distorted appearance, was busy with another customer and paid no heed to those simply perusing the counter. The rows were crowded within the mountain market but somehow no one bumped into the tall figure, as if unconsciously avoiding him.
Worn fingers reached out to pick up a small hairpin. It was delicate, a near-translucent pink jade with hanging blossom accents. It was feminine...but somehow he thought it would fit the soul he had in mind.
Hokusai smiled but the expression didn’t last for more than a breath, the motion seeming strained. It was a face that didn’t do such a thing often nowadays. No, he shouldn’t have stopped.
It didn’t matter. He-Lin was gone. Likely forgotten him. Who wouldn’t? They had been young, it had been a tryst. Something from a novel. Heh, like of those yaoi manga he’d hidden in the floorboards of his small room while growing up.
He shouldn’t have stopped here.
The red of his haori’s long sleeves brushed the edge of the booth as he placed the pin back. His attire was very traditional, layers of Japanese cloth of muted rust reds and cream. His hair remained unruly over the years, falling to his hips in wavy layers. At least the weight of its length now kept it somewhat in check. Tied back in a low tail to account for the ajirogasa, he could blend into such places easily enough.
And so he stood there, looking at the pin. There was a tightness to his chest that swept through occasionally nowadays. But no, it was pushed aside as his eyes closed and the sound of the vendor turning his attention to him.
“Oi oi, you! You like this, right? Straight from--hey!” the thing squawked.
But Hokusai had already started walking away, the crowds still parting away from him whether they realized it or not.
Tumblr media
--------------------
There had been rumor of evil roaming about Japan. Even more compounding the rumors were the fact that something evil out there was attacking both rogue spirits and the mortals that hunted /them./ It seemed only certain types of priests, exorcists, cultivators, whatever they may be had been targeted. Individuals of a radical Shinto exorcism sect rumored to experiment, enslave, and slay spirits they deemed malevolent.
The priests would be found in their hunting grounds in various gruesome manners. Blood flowing from the ears. Eyes wide in horror. Scratches over their skin, as if they had tried to claw something from their very flesh. Some were burned alive with no fire source in sight. Some even looked as if they’d been torn apart by beast, yokai, or something else.
Despite these horrifying accounts, some of the same twisted deaths had been found upon spiritual beings that had decided to threaten innocent human populations.
This duality had the cultivation world talking.
Only one survivor had been found, stumbling from his hunting grounds screaming about the fire, the ghosts, the beasts, and the MUSIC.
STOP THE MUSIC.
To this day, he remained in confinement with his mind splintered.
What existed out there that slayed yokai and human alike? Was it friend or foe? And to whom?
----------
This one wouldn’t escape. No, not this one. He knew this one. Eyes were alight from their rusted hue, glowing brightly in the night. Rakka-kyoki sung beneath his fingers, the moonlight shining off the red-lacquered wood. The notes danced, sharp, shrill, as if they themselves were weapons thrown at his enemy.
This was a chase now, not a battle. And Hokusai watched it all from his cliff-view point. Sharp eyes watched the white robes of the priest running in the forest. Occasionally he could feel that slight spiritual energy in the air as the man tried to fight back.
No. He stood no chance. Not alone.
Tumblr media
Shadows danced from tree to tree after the priest, avoiding the panicked attacks with ease. They were vulpine-like, writhing in dark flame. Their yips rang shrill with the kagurabue’s song, its command.
It was a hunt.
This unfortunate soul of the Hanakaze sect of exorcism was far from home and it had made him vulnerable. What had made him even more so was being a disciple of Takane, the venerated exorcist that led such teachings at the northern-based temple.
A disciple of the man that had torn apart yokai for fun.
Okazake was experienced in both teaching and field tactics but he had been caught off-guard. This was not to be a night hunt, he had simply been traveling to a neglected shrine within the forest. It had been a mistake.
The music never faded no matter how far he ran, it was always ringing in his ears.
The first spirit finally reached him, teeth digging into his arm. White cloth tore and the priest yelled in pain. Desperate he put a talisman to the thing’s face. It dissolved into black flame, unaffected. And then the second was upon him.
And he was pinned but not devoured. The level-headed man gasped for breath.
Had the flute stopped?
“O-ka-za-ke-haaaaaaaaaan,” came a singsong tone.
Boots came into view, worn black leather. The toe came under his chin, forcing him to look up.
“Is that all ya have? That wasn’t a fun hunt at all.” The osaka-ben accent was strong in the teasing tone. What was not teasing was, despite the smile on the man’s face, was the dead look in those glowing eyes.
Gritting his teeth, Okazake tried to size up his opponent. What was he up against? And how did he know his name? A kitsune, no...not with those tails. He counted.
Nine.
He was face to face with a kyuubi. No. Not quite. The presence was strong but not that of a rampaging fox.
Tumblr media
A hand reached down to seize the priest by his dark hair, forcing him up this knees. “Y...you will die once word gets back that you’ve done this,” the human boldly stated, composure in place despite his injury.
“Oh, I’m soooo scared.” The fox smirked, ears flicking boredly at the threat. “Here’s the deal. Yer gonna die here in a few minutes. Naw, it’s not gonna be slow. Not one bit.” He knelt, the red and cream robes folding about his form perfectly, the nine rust-colored tails rustling about. “Ya don’t remember me, do ya? Well, yer gonna.”
The boot rose up to kick Okazake back. Grinning widely, the kagurabue was raised to his lips again. The first note was shrill and the once-still spirits growled back to life. And then the fell on the Hanakaze exorcist.
And his screams rose with the song.
And Hokusai smiled as it all blended together in the night.
He enjoyed these hunts.
What else did he have? There was no one in this world for him anymore.
There was only the hunt.
There was only revenge.

Upon Our Sea -- Pokeshipping -- Chapter 5
Sorry this took me a while, but here’s chapter five!
  Chapter Five – Double Trouble
The black boat was Brock’s first hint that Gladion was nothing like his sister.
While most of the boats near the dock they were waiting on were a glistening white, the older ones taking on a more gray hue– Gladion’s stood out like a shiny in a herd of Stantler. It was definitely nice boat, the way it zipped through the water towards the dock, engine next to silent. Brock stared up at it as it pulled up next to the wooden dock, black paint gleaming in the sun.
Brock honestly wasn’t sure if it was a boat if it had some fancy name– sea terms were more of Misty’s thing– but it didn’t take an expert to see that the boat was top quality. A golden symbol was painted down its sides, a shape that took Brock a moment to recognize.
It was the symbol of the Aether Foundation– Brock had remembered reading about them in the pamphlet of Alola that the plane had. The small article had caught his eye when they had mentioned their Pokemon rehabilitation program.
“Hi Gladion!” Lillie called, waving a hand over her head up towards the boat as a metal ramp came down, connecting the boat to the dock. Brock’s gaze lingered on Lillie for a moment, before flickering up towards the person coming down the ramp.
Well, they most certainly looked alike for sure– with the light blonde hair, ivory skin, and meadow-green eyes.
   The similarities ended though however.
Sweeping bangs fell across the man’s face, covering one eye. His visible eye was narrowed and sharp, unlike Lillie’s soft ones, scanning the whole dock as he decended. He had several piercings in one ear, his arms crossed over his chest. Practically everything about him screamed ‘punk’– and Brock was honestly surprised that his clothes weren’t ripped and shredded.
He was wearing black however– slim black pants that swept down to his gleaming dress shoes. He wore a white shirt, which was mostly covered by a leather jacket, despite the warm day. His gaze was hard and expressionless as he looked over them. There was an Umbreon by his side– the Eeveelution racing forward as soon as his eyes fell on Lillie.
“Bre!” The Umbreon cried, leaping into Lillie’s outstretched arms.
“Hi Umbreon!” Lillie said happily, a huge smile on her face as Umbreon gave her a lick on the nose. She lifted her gaze up to her brother. “Hey Gladion!”
Gladion’s expression softened in the slightest. “Hello, Lillie.”
“Vul…” Vulpix, who had been resting in Brock’s arms, quickly pressed his head against his chest– clearly not happy with this new stranger.
Umbreon jumped out of Lillie’s arms, swiftly returning to his trainer’s side as Lillie ran up to her brother. She threw her arms around him, while he simply placed a hand on her shoulder. Gladion looked down at her, a smile flickering over his face.
“It’s been forever since I’ve last seen you,” Lillie said, pulling back to get a better look at her brother. “Is everything going alright at the Foundation?”
Gladion shrugged. “Same as usual, I swear nothing gets done unless you’re right on their heels about it.”
Lillie grinned, as if this were an inside joke of some kind. She then turned to face Brock. “Gladion, this is me and Ash’s friend, Brock. He’s a Pokemon doctor! And Brock, this is my older brother, Gladion– he’s currently the head of the Aether Foundation!”
A smile inched its way up onto Brock’s face as he realized that Lillie had called him her friend– though it quickly vanished as a green-eyed glare was thrown his way. Shivers ran through Brock as he made eye contact, Gladion’s eyes colder than ever. Even though Brock was taller than the blond, his mouth still went dry as they stared at each other.
Lillie was silent, clearly waiting for some greeting to happen between them. Brock quickly shifted his gaze to Lillie, finding that it was easier to speak when he was looking at her.
“The Aether Foundation?” Brock asked, and his surprise was unfeigned– it seemed to be a big organization here in Alola, and he hadn’t just expected to run into the head of it– especially someone that was related to Lillie. But that did explain the nice boat and the symbol on it.
“Yes,” Gladion said stiffly. “Our mother was the founder.”
Lillie looked at him as if she thought Gladion was going to say more, but no further explanation was given.
“Well!” Lillie clasped her hands together excitedly. “Brock came all the way here from Kanto to find Ash– do you think you could give us a lift to his island? You know the way there, right?”
“I wouldn’t be here if I wasn’t going to,” Gladion replied, gesturing to the boat. “And I’ve been there to see Ash many times– always with more young birds for me to take to the foundation.”
   Birds?
Brock bit his lip, honestly wondering at this point if they were all talking about the same Ash. Isolated training and baby birds? Ash loved training and he did have a lot of flying types, but still…
“And occasionally there’s just a legendary sitting there with him,” Gladion muttered. “As if that was normal.”
Lillie giggled. “The Tapus have always liked him.”
Legendaries? Yep– this was definitely his Ash.
“Is there anything else you need to grab?” Gladion asked Lillie. “Or can we leave now?”
“We’re all ready!” Lillie said, shifting the backpack on her shoulder.
“Did you pack your Clefairy doll?” Gladion asked with a slight smirk, earning a glower from Lillie. Brock’s heart skipped a beat– even when upset she still was beautiful!
“Oh, shut up,” Lillie grumbled, and she turned her gaze towards the Pokemon. “Come on Umbreon, Vulpix– race you onboard!”
Lillie took off up the ramp, Gladion’s Umbreon charging after her. To Brock’s surprise Vulpix, who hadn’t moved an inch since Gladion had come on shore, struggled in his grip until he broke free. The Vulpix landed on the dock, then ran after Lillie with an excited cry. Brock smiled at the young Pokemon, wondering if he’d be doing better or worse if Shiron was out. But since the Alolan Ninetales was known to get motion sick, Lillie had decided to keep her in a Pokeball for the trip.
Gladion didn’t move an inch, staring at Brock. The Kantonian shifted, before taking a hesitant step forward, not sure of what else to do but board the boat. Gladion simply remained glaring at Brock as he came forward, completely still until Brock’s foot touched the ramp. Suddenly Gladion’s hand shot out– seizing Brock’s arm like an Arbok waiting to strike.
Brock couldn’t even let out a call of surprise, his arm being twisted as Gladion yanked him down so they were at eye level. Brock caught a few second glimpse of sharp green eyes, and then a voice whispered in his ear.
“Ten feet away from Lillie at all times,” Gladion’s voice was deadly quiet. “And then we’ll have no issues.”
Then Gladion’s iron grasp suddenly released him, Brock stumbling back a few steps as he tried to regain his balance. Gladion strolled on the ramp without looking back, his steps stiff yet fluid.
Brock blinked, and then quickly boarded the boat after them.
Lillie was up on deck, kneeling down next to two more Pokemon that had to be Gladion’s. The first one was one of the few Alolan Pokemon Brock recognized– one of the three forms of Lycanroc. This one was bright red, and was the only form Brock had yet to see in person. And while this Lycanroc did capture his interest, his eyes were quickly pulled to the Pokemon Lillie was currently stroking– a creature that Brock had never seen.
It radiated strength, Brock could feel its powerful aura before he even laid eyes on it. Goosebumps rose on Brock’s arms, the creature’s silver eyes narrowed suspiciously. The Pokemon was mostly white, with a canine head, a huge wing-like crest rising from the top of its head. It’s front legs were a dark green, with raptor talons. The Pokemon tossed its head as Brock studied it, it’s body black with hind legs that resembled a Persian’s legs, while it’s tail looked like it should belong to a water type.
As chaotic as the Pokemon looked, Brock couldn’t deny that there was a beauty to the creature, and he took a step forward.
The Pokemon let out a deep snarl, claws digging into the deck of the boat, and Brock tensed.
“No, Silvally!” Lillie quickly cried, placing her hands on the head of the Pokemon and turning him to face her. “He’s a friend– Brock is a friend, it’s okay…”
She stroked the ‘Silvally’, fingers running through his silvery fur, her voice making the beast relax all at once. Vulpix, who had been near Lillie, tensed up– and bolted straight towards Brock. The fire type took shelter behind Brock’s legs, shaking.
“What Pokemon is that…?” Brock muttered in awe.
“This is Silvally,” Lillie said, looking at the Pokemon in admiration. She scratched him under the chin, the Pokemon nuzzling her as if it were a Growlithe. “He’s a sweetheart, just a bit wary of strangers,” Lillie patted the ground next to her. “Come over here Brock, I’ll introduce you.”
“Um…” Brock began, not liking the way the Silvally was eyeing him.
“I’d rather if we didn’t pressure Silvally,” Gladion’s voice was quiet, yet his words were still recognizable even as he retracted the metal ramp from the dock. “Why don’t you stay near him, Lillie to keep him calm. And Ash’s friend here can just give Silvally a wide berth.”
Brock understood what it meant to be an overprotective brother– he had nine younger siblings after all– but this was getting ridiculous. Even though he had only known Gladion for about two minutes, Brock couldn’t help but grit his teeth. He hadn’t even done anything that said he looked at Lillie as anymore than a friend!
Even if she was the most beautiful girl he had seen in all of Alola.
Lillie flashed Brock an apologetic smile. “Gladion may be right, Silvally is pretty strong, we don’t want to risk anything.”
Brock glanced towards Gladion– who was heading inside of the cabin to where the controls surely laid. Windows surrounded all sides of the small room, not offering much privacy.
“It’s fine,” Brock said smoothly, reaching down to scoop up the shivering Vulpix at his heels. “I think Vulpix wants some space anyways.”
—————————
“…Nicer than I expected,” Brock muttered.
As Lillie had promised, the boat trip to the island that Ash was staying at was an hour long. Despite the occasional glares from Gladion and Silvally, and Toxicroak suddenly bursting out of his Pokeball after Brock made a pun about Chanseys, the trip had been quite enjoyable.
He and Lillie had talked mostly about Pokemon– everything from their jobs, to raising Vulpixes, and comparing how they prepared Pokemon food. Lillie had clearly been carried away in the conversation, stroking Gladion’s Pokemon around her as she chattered away. Brock watched her as she spoke, almost hypnotized by her movements: the way her eyes lit up whenever something caught her interest, how her hands would move about as she described something– only for the Pokemon to whine as she stopped petting them.
Then she’s laugh, her head thrown back, the sun shining in her hair as her melodic laugh echoed across the boat.
“What were you expecting?” Lillie asked, pulling up next to him at the edge of the boat as he looked out on the island. “A sandbar?”
Brock gave an uncertain grin. “Well, maybe not something that bare.”
Brock noticed Toxicroak standing behind him, the poison type watching him with emotionless eyes. Brock felt his palms starting to sweat, and he swiftly turned his attention back to the island that Ash was said to be on.
It was much larger than Brock had been expecting– lush paradise with the center of the island covered in foliage. Large palm trees grew near the sandy shore, the beach stretching out in both directions. While he didn’t see any Pokemon, he could hear the calls of bird Pokemon echoing through the small forest.
The boat was slowly coming to a stop, clearly not able to come directly up to the beach due to the shallowness of the water. Brock glanced back to see Gladion exiting the cabin, and Brock swiftly looked down the side of the boat. Water lapped up the side, but Brock couldn’t make out how deep it was due to the way the water distorted the images below the waves.
He did have his Swampert on him if they needed a Pokemon to swim them to shore, but Swampert did better in more still waters. Brock did his best to remain still as Gladion came and stood next to him– right between him and Lillie. He held a small whistle in his hand, which he brought to his lips and blew. Brock flinched, prepared for a sharp trill– but the whistle gave no sound that he could hear. Gladion regarded him with cold eyes, before tucking the whistle away.
“Our ride to the shore will be here in a moment,” He said simply. He snapped his fingers, and suddenly a rolled up ladder was levitated into his hands. Brock glanced back, discovering Gladion’s Umbreon using a Psychic attack to move it into Gladion’s arms. Gladion secured the ladder to the edge of the boat, before throwing the rest over the side.
“The island is really pretty,” Lillie said, leaning around Gladion so she could talk to Brock. “Especially when you get up close. I know you’re going to love it.”
“I just hope Ash will be willing to come back to Kanto for a bit…” Brock muttered, still staring out on the island. Vulpix pressed against Brock’s cheek, giving him a small lick.
“Laaaa!” A voice called out, and all heads turned towards the water. Drifting through the calm waves was a light blue creature, a long neck craned up towards them.
“Hi Lapras!” Lillie called, waving down to the water type as it pulled up to the base of the ladder.
“You can go first, Lillie,” Gladion, stepping away from the ladder for his sister. She nodded, climbing over the side of the boat, while Gladion turned to look at his three Pokemon, who were sitting where Lillie had left them. “You three stay here and keep an eye on things, okay?”
   “Umbre!”
   “Roc!”
His Umbreon and Lycanroc gave cries of agreement, while the Silvally merely nodding, stretching out its front legs.
Lillie was down the ladder in seconds, landing on the large shell of the Lapras. The beautiful water type craned her neck back so she was facing Lillie, who was stroking the Larpas’ face. Brock smiled down at her, utterly enchanted how Pokemon just seemed to be drawn to her. She tickled the Lapras under the chin, who laughed, splashing the water with her flippers.
It wasn’t until Gladion joined her on the Larpas’ back that Brock realized that they were waiting for him. Two pair of green eyes looked up at him, one soft and the other sharp. Brock quickly looked back at Toxicroak who returned himself to his Pokeball before Brock even could reach for the sphere.
Brock glanced at the Vulpix who was now on his shoulder, a glare from the fire type making clear it wasn’t going into a Pokeball. Brock made sure that the Vulpix’s claws were digging deep into his shoulder, then he hooked one leg over the side of the boat, climbing down to join them.
The Lapras let out a happy call once all of her riders were on board, pressing forward into the water. Brock swiftly grabbed one of the spikes on the water type’s back to keep him from falling off the edge and into the water, and his other arm was around Vulpix. Lillie was sitting up front, right where the neck of the Lapras reached the shell, talking softly to the Pokemon. Gladion somehow managed to maintain his balance while standing, gaze fixated straight ahead.
The ride to shore was short, the longest part merely being the Lapras dragging itself up onto the beach so they wouldn’t have to get their shoes wet. The Lapras held her head high upon coming on shore, looking extremely proud of herself. Gladion was the first to hop off of Lapras, staring off at the tree line.
“Thank you Lapras,” Lillie said softly as she dismounted. “I’m sorry, I don’t have any Pokebeans on me this time, but I promise I’ll bring some next time, okay?”
The Lapras’ eyes lit up at this promise, the Pokemon giving Lillie an affectionate nibble on the head. Brock carefully dismounted, Vulpix’s claws feeling painful at this point. He was staring at the water, fur puffed up in horror as if he just realized that they were near the ocean. Brock tried to pull the young Pokemon off his shoulder, but the Vulpix refused to budge.
“So…” Brock said slowly, glancing across the island. As Lillie said it was a beautiful place– but in no way did it look like humans had been here, let alone live here. “Where will we find Ash?”
“His camp is at the center of the island,” Lillie supplied as she waved goodbye to the Lapras as it pulled itself back into the ocean. “Gladion will lead us there, he’s been here a lot!”
Suddenly a sound Pokeball opening reached their ears– and Brock wasn’t even surprised to see Toxicroak releasing himself as he usually did.
Brock sighed. “Couldn’t even wait two minutes, huh?”
However Toxicroak wasn’t glaring at Brock, nor looking at Lillie. The poison type’s eyes were narrowed, glaring off at the treeline in front of them. Brock recognized right away Toxicroak’s Anticipation ability activating, and followed the frog’s gaze to the trees, knowing that he sensed something.
Then two unfortunately familiar figures leapt out of the trees, striking poses as they declared at the top of their lungs:
   “Prepare for trouble!”
   “And make it double!”
Brock rubbed his temple, realizing that wherever Ash was, that a certain trio wouldn’t be far behind.

nickie-ninetales replied to your post “Thoughts at 6pm”
Hey man, I know that. I'm praying to whatever football gods allowed this to happen to us and beg they fire Hue Jackson immediately upon season close. Here's betting we go 0-16, so I can attend one Cleveland football parade in my lifetime!
@nickie-ninetales can you imagine being cut from that team? Can you imagine NOT being GOOD ENOUGH to lose ... every .... single .... fucking game?????
I really do hope you get your parade! You deserve it for being a browns fan, I mean, yeah y’all have Lebron and stuff, and @queenofthefatbabes loves Cleveland as much as you, so it can’t be too bad... just... y’all got shafted on the football team in a major way.

@tornadoofstupidity
Charmander: Who was your first Pokemon ? Unless you count spinoffs in, Piplup ! My first main game was Pearl, but my mom accidentally (or not ?) ordered pokemon ranger before, the first one. Since I chose the female avatar, I got Plusle.
Ninetales: Which Pokemon do you think is the most beautiful?Depends. In terms of harmony of the design, I like Dragonair because it looks simple yet elegant. But if you talk about color choice, I appreciate that Chatot’s colors are varied yet still don’t feel too painful to look at despite the fact that the designers didn’t choose the original lovebird greenish hues.
Pikachu:Who is your favourite Pokemon?    Tough one. My first favourite was Fearow because of the pokemon ranger games, but now I tend to love cuddly-looking ones, like Togekiss, Altaria and Furret. Blue and white hues hit a soft spot though. I relate to Venonat because it’s the vermin pokemon and I love trash.
