Naruto AU where Sarutobi loses it just a bit and names thirteen year old prodigy Itachi as Hokage.

Look. Itachi is smart, strong, mature. He has proven to be willing to put the needs of the many over the needs of the few, putting the safety of the village as a whole over his clan even.

He is willing to do what's necessary for the good of the village, however difficult or unsavory. He doesn't shy away from tough decisions and he doesn't pick sides.

And most of all, Itachi is a pacifist. He has no higher ambitions, no thirst for power or glory...

Itachi would be a fantastic Hokage—and that's not even mentioning how it would undoubtedly solve the whole coup issue...

Sarutobi of course gives Itachi no opportunity to refuse the promotion. Instead, he gives him an ultimatum: If he wants to stop the coup d'état he has two options before him...

The first is the original plan to execute everyone in the clan besides himself and Sasuke.

The second? Become Godaime Hokage and give his people, the Uchiha, hope.

(Sure, he won't be able to spend much time with his precious otouto... But, if he went through with the massacre plan he wouldn't be able to spend time with his brother at all.)

In the end, there's really only one option...

Itachi accepts.

I need more fics and au where Kakashi is the fifth hokage. I've only seen one and it's 1/? and there are no chapters for a long time.

Let's be honest, the arc with Tsunade returning to the village is cool and important to the plot, but. Tsunade hasn't been to the village in 30 years, she hasn't been an active shinobi for the same amount of time and here she is returning as hokage. It's not like that. I'd like to see an au where Tsunade agrees to return to the village, but only as the head of the hospital. For the role of hokage, look for someone else.

Imagine a council of Konoha jonin, clan heads and so on. They're all thinking about who to make the hokage (just not Danzo). There are heated arguments, discussions that they should force Jiraiya or someone else. Shikaku's gaze falls on Kakashi, who is sitting quietly in a corner, trying to keep quiet so he won't be noticed.

Shikaku's eyes lighten up. A very strong shinobi, a genius even. A student of the fourth hokage, already a sensei and not the head of the clan (not like Inoichi, Shikaku and the others). Basically, a free guy.

Kakashi feels goosebumps and raises his head, meeting Shikaku's gaze. And that's it. A very heated discussion begins, Kakashi vehemently refuses and gives a dozen arguments. They give him two dozen in opposition. It's settled.

Kakashi is officially appointed the fifth Hokage.

Naruto is happy, Sakura is moderately happy too, everyone is relatively happy about it (except Danzo of course). After a while, the news reaches the Akatsuki hideout. Itachi is happy for his sempai, but Obito? Good question, it's his perennial sore subject - Kakashi is better at everything and gets what Obito would have wanted. Now he's fulfilled his childhood dream as well. What will Obito do next? Good question.

The story will take a different turn, huh. Kakashi won't go on missions to rescue Gaara and Sasuke with Naruto and won't have many moments I guess? Paine's attack arc will go differently too, maybe Obito will officially join the party. What about Madara's battle against the five kage? Ugh, so much to think about.

Toris Shisui opinions are so funny. Her refusal to even say she was on Itachi's genin team makes it make a lot more sense how people just... don't know how they could be connected.

genin teams are public information most ninja could easily access. however they just..... don't. like he graduated when he was like 6; why would be randomly have a genin team at age 13?

plus all their really cool missions are "need to know only." it is tori's special talent

So Kisame's often considered the fourth most powerful Akatsuki member, but the top three are pretty unanimously Obito, Pain and Itachi. And with Kisame's motto being survival of the fittest and MO being taking out the weakest links, it’s fascinating to see him end up as one of the most well connected members of the Akatsuki. And since the top three never openly get to clash, technically speaking, he stays loyal to all of them. He's;

- Working broadly for Pain, Akatsuki's open leader, who wants to create peace through traumatising the world through a cycle of war

- Working secretly for Obito, Akatsuki's real leader (and by proxy, Madara and Zetsu, Akatsuki's real-real leaders), who wants to create peace through trapping the world in a dream realm

- Working day-to-day for/with Itachi, the Akatsuki's biggest name, most powerful field member, and a secret double agent, who wants to create peace through becoming the most powerful shinobi that's ever lived, and through using that power 'as much as he wants', 'lead the world to subjugation'

So either Kisame is the ninja equivalent of the minions, or the dojutsu wielding top three of the Akatsuki all looked to him and went 'yup, he's Henchman Shaped'
