your first impression of them: i'm getting masculine energy that may seem like they are in a job or position of high power. for example, you might look at them and immediately assume they are involved in jobs related to law, military, police etc. it's possible that these may be their professions, however, for some it may just be a first impression. their aura as a whole is penetrative; they seem to have intellectual power, they have an authoritative demeanour. very boss-like. they seem cool and confident. not entirely lacking of emotions but you may immediately think "oh, this person is totally emotionally constipated." but i don't think this is entirely the case. they do have emotions and perhaps i picked up those professions earlier because this person has strong feelings when it comes to justice. but like the profession itself, they require their emotions to be strained because life is too difficult for emotions to rule their life. it's possible that for some of you, you may assume they are married at a first glance. for some, they may have children or during your first meetings, they may mention children or show you them. so naturally, you would assume they are married. let's not be homewreckers here, for the small number of you which this applies to. this is just a first impression, not an absolute truth and by no means does this suggest you should break apart a marriage or family. it could also be that they are someone who seems desperate to marry. you see them as lonely, needing of a true and passionate companion. and it could also suggest that when you first meet your person, you know from the very beginning that you will marry them. you know, one of those people that you can't help crushing on when you barely know them, and before you know it, you have a whole wedding and family planned out with them in your imagination. be careful not to fall in love too quickly, because this person might bring about a lot of delay. a delay of emotions, of love, of work. whatever it is, adventures end just as quickly as they start. you understand this from your first impressions of them, but it may be something you choose to ignore.

their first impression of you: firstly, they get a mix of both masculine and feminine energy from you. you seem to be someone who has control, someone who is active and knows what to do with their life. but they also see from the first impression that you have control over other things, like emotions. you may seem uptight at first. you come off as a total perfectionist. perhaps a workaholic, too. you seem to have mastered a lot of skill, but you come off to them as a person that is too engrossed in self-development. don't get me wrong, self-development is good. but their first impression tells me they think you are all "me, me, me!", putting all the work into yourself and never giving any effort to anyone else unless it allows you to achieve your own goals by doing so. they might also think you are too delusional about your financial state. at the time they meet you, you could have the "i manifested this!" mindset, but they may not believe in things like manifestation, and so, they assume you are delusional. they also have the first impression that you are a reckless spender. they'd rather you see and understand how you became into your position by your own efforts, and not what the universe has manifested for you. they might also see you initially as someone who moves too fast. they'll get to know you and won't be able to keep up. they think you should slow down, "hold your horses!" - especially in regards to career and money.

your first impression of them: i believe you will have a hard time deciding on what your first impression of them is. you could typically be the type of person who categorises people as "good or bad" and use your judgements to decide whether they are worthy of being in your life. but it will be hard for you to decide with this person. you don't know whether you should avoid them or keep seeing them. this could also suggest that you initially find this person indecisive. though overall, i think despite the confusion, they are a person that seems balanced and brings you balance. they might seem quite fiery, perhaps a fire sign or fire energy. they may come off as clumsy, but they are a person with fantastical thoughts and ideas. you might also think they are an "ace". good at everything, excels in anything they try. despite their clumsiness, they seem to always find success. you may perhaps meet them in a work environment, so you see more than one side of them. this is why it is hard for me to say you have a clear and concise first impression. they seem to know themselves, never wavering in fear. they believe in themselves above anything and you would admire this about them. they may initially seem too loud, too energetic. but they are deeply passionate and courageous.

their first impression of you: i immediately see that for some of you, when you and your person meet or make first impressions, you will be celebrating a personal achievement. perhaps a new job, new home, you quit smoking, or even something small and related to self-care. whatever this goal is, it is special to you and it will likely be one of the very first things they get to know about you. so initially, they will be proud, despite not knowing you well, or at all. they might also think your small goal is cute, and that you are cute for being so proud and excited for achieving it. go you! hard work definitely pays off and they get that vibe from you. you work hard to achieve something and you take time to admire all the results of your efforts. like a gardener who can't stop staring at their garden - this is the image they have of you. they think that you are the type of person who goes by the motto "no matter what life brings, it is a learning experience." however, they may also wonder if you are judgemental, or quick to judge. i don't see this in a negative way, but rather in an innocent way. you make quick judgement and speak or act in certain ways without realising how judgemental it could be until afterwards. they will notice this early on. and for some of you, they may think you are too high up in your head. it's good to be intuitive, to have compassion and empathy. but sometimes, they think you need to escape your mind and have a taste of the real world. lastly, for some of you, they may think you are so mysterious.

your first impression of them: you think they are a total loner. i'll try to be nice about it but the loner energy is way too strong. i think you will think negatively of them at first, someone who lacks friends and perhaps even family. it could be a red flag to you - there must be a reason they have no one close in their lives, no? i think they have a very lonely and sorrowful look and demeanour about them that makes you want to stay away. alternatively, it may mean you will meet them at a time when either you or them (or both) are going through a period of loneliness and social withdrawal, and for some of you, a breakup. you may think this person needs to reflect on their self-worth. i'm sorry if it may not be ideal for you to hear, but it's likely your person is going through it and you simply do not want to deal with it. yet, at the same time, you have these impressions of them but you can't stop thinking about them, worrying about them. the thoughts that keep you up at night, "i don't even know this person, i don't want to know this person but why can't i sleep? why am i so worried if they are doing okay or not?" there is still a good part of you that wants to reach out and i hope it will. keep in mind, these are just first impressions. their attitude can change at anytime so be aware that they may believe "if you don't love me at my worst, you don't deserve me at my best." i'm not attempting to intimidate you into checking on them and forcing yourself to be in their life, but keep it in mind. because you will realise later on that they are not the person you had thought they were.

their first impression of you: they may look at you and think "wow, you come from a really good family." this is in terms of abundance, wealth, finance, success. they immediately assume you are someone who has been materialistically provided for. for some, they may tease you about "mommy's/daddy's money" and whether this is the case or not is none of their business at all. if i were you, pile three, i'd tell them straight away that you will not tolerate teasing about your financial position, because it's most likely they said it due to their own insecurities being triggered from the sight of you. don't let words like this dismay you. it could also be the case that someone else says this to you, or about you, and they will defend you. for some, a friend or colleague may say demeaning comments about your wealth and they will say "well, where is your money? stop being jealous." they may not know you well, but their first impressions at least make them want to defend you. however, it is no use in denying that they also had these fleeting thoughts too. that you are power hungry, the money got to your head. however, they will soon realise you are like a double-edged sword. money is good, and money is bad. success is good, and success is bad. "heavy is the head that wears the crown." you may also tease them, and that is why they think you are quite boastful and tyrannical, but as i've said throughout. this is not a bad thing because genuine, long-lasting impressions are very rarely the same as first impressions. and for a number of you, they may think you are generous, or would like to know how generous you are. not in a "buying them things" kind of way, but how you choose to help others, and how much of your resources (financial, emotional, time) you are willing to give to others.

hmm i was scrolling through Twitter earlier and as the designated leafs blog in my mind, what are your thoughts on fraser minten? like he’s so interesting to me because in the narrative i’ve created of him he was tavares’ fifth child but then was our balanced by knies being better, but then wjc happened and he still couldn’t crack it. now he’s on the blades (one of the best whl teams i think??) very interesting

NARRATIVELY he's definitely The Tavares Child -- okayyyy so. Sew. this New Generation of leafs (imho starting at Knies and including Easton Cowan as well as minten) kind of... each parallel a member of the Core: Knies is Auston's child (Arizona boy, big strong forward), Cowan is Mitch's child (London Knight, small winger with endless energy) and Minten is JT's child (Captain anywhere he goes, known for maturity and intelligence)... william child + morgan child ->

anyHWAY the real life scouting report under the cut (not too long i don't think)

Minten's a high second-rounder, which is the type of player that's generally designated as an "upper maybe" NHLer -- by which I mean odds-on he'll get NHL games (as Mints has) but it's less likely he'll become a serious full-time player (although many a second-rounder can and does do so!) The most interesting thing about his draft position was that the Leafs, under Kyle Dubas, traded DOWN to get him -- we had a low first-rounder, then traded it to Chicago to get rid of the Mrazek contract and got the pick that would become Mints in return. Many a source says that Kyle wanted Mints anyway and would have taken him with the first-round pick.

The general consensus is that Mints tops out as a middle-six centre, a 3C on a good team or a 2C on a worse one (or a 1C on the Boston Bruins.) His ceiling is probably about 40 or 50 points, maybe more depending on how much power-play usage he gets.

However, it's also noted (and was pretty obvious to me, even watching him at the WJC -- which I'll get to in a second!) that his real value is not and will likely never be in point production. He's a natural centre, good-to-great at faceoffs (a skill that he learned in part from JT!!) and very good defensively. Because he's still a kid, plays a bit physically and tends to be involved in the play at both ends, he probably takes a few too many undisciplined stick infractions, but these things of course can be straightened out with time and wisdom. Also, he's a touch of a personality hire: he was the youngest A on the all-timer Kamloops Blazers last year and was pretty much immediately named C after the Leafs sent him home this year; he was named captain of the CANADIAN WORLD JUNIORS team with zero other experience playing for Canada on the national level. He plays the piano! He's smart, polite, doesn't cause a fuss, wise beyond his years. Takes a guy far.

Anyway, the WJC: just an absolute hackjob by the coach and one of those years that really demonstrates that Hockey Canada still thinks it can get ahead by being Canada (the ol' throw bodies at the wall shtick) and not, like, because of its actual quality of development. I think bowing out when they did was a bit unlucky, but they absolutely were NOT primed to win it all -- especially because the coach basically seemed to have no concept of... line construction? or anything of the sort? Like he just tossed players together from a hat once (1) and decided they were just going to play out the tourney like that -- no real concept of "x is the playmaker, y is the shooter, z is the forechecker" or "these three are the transition line that take d-zone draws and use their speed to create rush chances/o-zone draws" or even something so simple as "this defensively-minded, slower centre is perhaps not the best match for the winger notorious for being opportunistic and shooty." Also, not to put too fine a point on it but a player can have a bad WJC and it doesn't mean anything, or a good WJC and it also doesn't mean anything -- Jesse Puljujarvi rose his draft stock by a good chunk in 2016 by having a FANTASTIC WJC, and he's currently on an AHL tryout. It's a small sample size, mostly played with teammates they barely know and against competition about a half-step up from what they're used to. Weird statlines happen.

Back to MINTS because we're still talking about him. Yess currently he's on the Blades -- traded from the Blazers because the Blazers are garbage and they want to Do Right By The Player and put him on a competitive team (done for two reasons: one, because it can be demoralizing to be the best player on a bad team, and two, because being on a good team in juniors often means you get actually good-for-your-development linemates and usage). He was generally not expected to make the Leafs at ALL this season (I mean, 20-year-old second-rounder, right?) and cracking the roster out of camp, even though he only got three games and has a rather blank statline is SUPER impressive. I'm pretty sure this is his last year of CHL eligibility, after which he'll probably either get put on the Marlies for a year to keep cooking or he'll make the Leafs again and stick around. Either way, he's slid twice I think so we burn a year of his ELC.

and my opinion of the boy? I love him. Let's go baby leafs baby leafs forevar

The happiny line

Caring for the caretakers

General notes: This line is famous and nearly ubiquitous in our hospitals and pokemon centres, a caring and nurturing pokemon with high maternal instincts and excellent retention skills. But they aren't machines, and like all pokemon, deserve top notch care.

General care: This entire line are strict herbivores, living off fruits, vegetables, and other plant matter. They thrive off vegetarian kibble with a platter of chopped fruit and veg every day. Though as large pokemon, they have high calorie requirements, and do need large portions.

The early stage, happiny, is small and sweet natured, though very clumsy. The entire line, despite having dainty little paws, do possess a working opposable thumb, and can carry and hold things well, but happiny must develop their hand eye co-ordination with practice.

You need to be VERY patient with them. Like toddlers, they love to mimic what they see, but lack the knowledge and co-ordination to pull it off. They will break a lot of crockery. They will spill a lot of drinks. Shouting at her will only distress and panic her, and may lead to anxiety issues later down the line. Be patient, be kind and show her how to tidy up. Think of her at this stage like a very young toddler and treat her accordingly.

Though it may be lovely to imagine replacing the smooth rock she treasures with an actual doll, I do not recommend this. She doesn't just carry it around. She plays with it. She'll drop it in puddles to simulate washing a patient. She'll spit chewed up berries on it and wrap them in rags to practice applying berries to wounds. She'll drag it around. By the end of a week that cute little substitute doll is going to be noxious. And she'll panic and tantrum while it's washing and drying. Cleaning a rock meanwhile, is ten seconds with a wet wipe.

Happiny in general are just kind of grubs. Their affinity for attracting dirt and grime in the middle of a clean room is a meme in the chansey breeding community. Luckily, they tend to enjoy water and their downy fluff dries quickly.

Check her pouch every night before tucking her into bed, as happiny often store food in their pouch for later and forget it, which can cause health issues if it goes bad.

Chansey are more independent and fussy with their hygiene, and by this stage are far more dextrous. Though not the smartest pokemon in the world, they make up for this with some of the most incredible memory retention of any pokemon. Though she'll dither in unfamiliar circumstances, when shown what to do she won't forget it.

Chansey lay anywhere from 1 to 3 large eggs per day. These eggs are often infertile, and if you've built up a bond, she'll happily share them. They are tasty, nutritious and easy to digest. Though wild caught chansey lay like troopers, the large captive bred population that makes up the majority of care takers has an issue. Taken and bred out from a small population, at least 5-10% of these domestic chansey have a mild deformation in their oviducts, inherited from one of the original few chansey. Though this usually manifests as slightly odd shaped but otherwise fine eggs, domestic chansey are at higher risk of egg binding. A chansey who is straining, shivering and vocalising in distress should be taken to emergency care, as egg binding can kill in as little as 24 hours. If this happens repeatedly, a hormone implant can be prescribed, which will stop her egg laying entirely.

Though it's unknown what prompts this, chansey breed by what is known as parthenogenic reproduction. Her daughter is a near perfect genetic copy, though some slight and random genetic reshuffling has been recorded. A chansey or blissey who has laid a fertile egg will suddenly turn aggressive, hissing violently and fluffing up. Though she has little maternal instinct to an infertile egg, when she senses an egg is viable all those instincts hit full force. Though she doesn't have the strongest bite, this line of pokemon is big and heavy, and can bowl you over quite forcibly. Provide a safe space for her to retreat to and give her privacy, her instincts will settle after a few days.

Blissey tends to evolve from older and more experienced chansey, and are quite reliable. She's seen it all and can deal handily. Her care needs are much the same as a chansey. An older and experienced blissey can run a ward of humans patients with barely any assistance required.

On a quick note, though caring and nurturing by nature, chansey do get fed up when exploited. They are often tasked as cleaners and maids as well as caretakers, but in any job, if made to work long hours while their human co-workers slack off and leave them the lions share of work, they get resentful. And strike. Large, heavy and bulky, a single chansey can shut down an entire office by parking her fluffy kiester in a hallway and not moving. And if there's more than one, she'll unionize. Her needs however, aren't all that hard to provide. She wants to feel useful without being overworked, and with time to have a peaceful meal break and to enjoy the sunshine. Frankly, if a chansey feels hard done by enough to strike, it's well deserved. Care rating: Green

Training: Young chansey need a lot of guidance, as she'll panic in strange circumstances. When trained as nurses and caretakers, she'll often be assigned a nurse to follow around. Young happiny are often given (unused and safe) medical equipment as toys to get them used to it from an early age, and it's quite sweet to watch a happiny carefully tape an IV line with the needle removed to her rock.

If you're disabled and want a chansey to act as home care, its recommended to contact a registered nurse, who can come and show your chansey what you need to be healthy and cared for. If a chansey learns incorrect information and procedures, it can be hard to her to correct this, which can be dangerous, so make sure she's well trained.

Though some chansey do enjoy battling, I don't recommend pokebattling for care chanseys, as if she's injured, you could be left without aid.

Otherwise, it's rare to encounter a mean or surly chansey, and they're not hard to teach and train. Training rating: Green

Safety: A chansey holds very few risks. Even a broody one with an egg lacks bite power, and even if she breaks the skin, her saliva contains antibacterial properties anyway.

however, she is a big pokemon with a lot of strength, and could potentially bowl someone over if they get in her way before she can react.

Otherwise. Well. It's the chansey line. They aren't exactly dangerous. Safety rating: Green

Overall ranking. A safe and reliable pokemon who's been a partner to humans for centuries.

Oh, the Sawamura siblings. Better than anyone, they have trained Daichi to become a great captain and to just zen-mode in order to enjoy his food.

Daichi's notes on the four:

• Ayame (彩芽) is barely a year younger than Daichi and she seems to have been born with all the emotional perception he lacks, having always been his crutch to "undense", as she says. She got very comfortable on the middle sibling role and to an unknown can appear to be lazy and distant, repeating "not my problem" and minding her own business, usually accidentally napping where she shouldn't. She is actually the most perceptive of the five, even if she uses her powers to bribe and blackmail the others into doing her chores ("oh, mom wouldn't like to know you got into another fight, Fuu", "Dai will be so upset if he discovers your cats destroyed his socks, Nao", "DAIKI WHERE IS MY BAGPACK", "Ok, I'll make your bento today, Dai, but you'll make my bento for the entire next week, take it or starve") and to make snarky comments on the others. As amazingly as it might sound, Ayame is an excellent listener and at the cost of some favour she can even give incredibly touching insights to anyone's problems. She usually calls Daichi "Dai", or "Daichi" when it follows a disappointed note, or "Dainii" when she's using her most sarcastic superiority jokes. Though she rarely oversteps on those, Daichi is sure she does it more for the humour than to hurt anyone. She used to be in the pingpong club during Junior school and Daichi remembers she was really good at it. She changed into being part of her student's council when she entered high school, where she could sharpen even more her entrepreneur skills, never loosing an opportunity to make a good business out of anything. Probably better than any of the youngers, Daichi knows how hard working she is, choosing a competitive school, very driven by all that ambitious Sawamura soul inside of her, and even if she tries to deny it he knows she also does it to help their family and friends out. As a fact that she started to learn how taxes work right at the start of her high school to help their mother business, which both scares the hell out of him and makes him swell with pride. That being said, never let Ayame in possession of any of your secrets or you'll end up being her slave forever.

• Daiki (大輝) is the elder twin, even if everyone thinks he's the younger giving his very cheerful nature. He loves being the centre of attention and in general can be perceived as, well, a bit too much. Perfectly dramatic for the drama club he's part of since forever, with an incredible capacity to never shut up no matter how early or late, his theatre years helped him to develop a very charismatic and joyous personality, sweet words that lets him get away with almost anything, if you're not his family. Because at home everyone knows better than to fall for the smiles that try to cover his little sense of consequences. Daichi knows he's a good kid and is proud of him, even if he has to listen to him talking about all the newest school gossip. He might have given up to remember al his friends names because Daiki seems to know everyone and their mothers on his school, though opposite of Ayame, he just likes to know and passing the information forward. Daiki usually calls Daichi as just "Dai", and Daichi narrows his eyes when is called "Dainii" as it proceeds a headache. Typical human hurricane, usually gets in trouble for being impulsive and always ends up getting into bickering, specially with Ayame who has the most energy to spat back. Daichi learned to just zone out and let him talk, only bothering to do the older brother voice when he discovers Daiki overstepped himself (again). Too distractive, he can't be trusted around fire and knives, so he ends up having more laundry and cleaning chores to compensate his inability to contribute to everyone's bento. At the end of the day he just wants to connect to people, crack some funny jokes and entertain everyone. And 1k likes on his videos.

• Naoki (直樹) is the younger twin and the complete opposite of Daiki. Daichi actually thinks Naoki stands out for being very opposite of everyone in the house. Poor Naoki craves time alone and a bit of silence, doesn't have the Sawamura brand stamina, is very bad at being awake before lunch, stresses far to easily (to Daichi's worry) and actually finds joy in the slowness. Daichi thinks Naoki has the soul of those old Edo poets that spent the day admiring gardens and writing haikus about flowers. Even Daichi knows that's partially from having to be constantly besides his sun-storm twin, not finding the space to put his thoughts out and introspecting everything. Ayame keeps reminding him to spend some time alone with Naoki so he can feel cared about, she also does it but apparently the quiet Sawamura has Daichi as a role figure. The only sibling who calls him "Dainii" without second intentions, Naoki is the main reason why Daichi knows so much about fish. When younger used to read a lot about the ocean and constantly asked to go to the aquarium. Because of the intense contrast between him and the other four, people mistakenly assume Naoki is shy and helpless, and if Daichi knows something about him is that he's neither of those. The Sawamura in him hardly needs any protection, usually not caring for provocations nor being intimidated by brutality, Naoki has a low social battery but also has good friends. Is capable of mastering any skills his curious mind gets interest for, specially things that take their time and dedication like cooking or tea brewing. He can, nevertheless, get easily overwhelmed by time sensitive things and stresses when things go out of his control. He used to be part of the nap club on the school he attends with his twin, but lately he has decided to sacrifice his energy for the cooking activities, which Daichi selfishly always volunteer to try out his efforts. Needless to say that's a sibling competition and none of them hold back on compliments for the chef.

• Fuyumi (不由美) is Daichi's incognita. If Daiki is a sun storm, Fuyumi is a supernova. If Naoki has Daichi as his model, Fuyumi seems to have made Daichi her nemesis and he can't figure why or how. She just seems to be contrary to anything he does or try to do to get closer to her. Once he tried to give her all those colourful hair things her classmates all wear and he remembers Ayame also used to love, but Fuyumi just hated them and Daichi can't figure what he has done wrong. The youngest Sawamura is like a wild cat, a bakeneko herself. She has all those cute new clothes but she prefers to wear the twin's old rags, refuse to let her hair to be controlled by elastics, is in constant need of band-aids, seems to enjoy being called "little monster" by Daiki (which lets Daichi exasperated, why would she like that??) and is rarely found clean or not stinking something ominous. How can a child be so intensely against any sort of domestication? The provocations seems to be very directed at Daichi. She is actually capable of socialize (in a way too aggressive manner to Daichi's taste) and live with the other siblings, but the moment Daichi tries anything it's like a bomb explodes. Ayame says it's because Daichi has a dense and authoritative aura and that frustrates Daichi even more, neither of those are things he can turn on and off, he just is like that! The youngest has even managed to make their sibling dinner time silent for an entire awkward minute by announcing she thinks volleyball is stupid. Daichi buried his face on his hands, Naoki covered his mouth in exasperation, Daiki got miraculously wordless, Ayame simply raised an eyebrow but neither couldn't find words to fill the silence. Fuyumi looked self satisfied. She isn't a complete lost case, even tough the others have to remind him more than the other way around. Fuyumi helps taking very good care of Naoki's cats and even Kintaro. She doesn't neglect her house chores and doesn't let anyone take easy on her either, unless she is tasked to do anything near Daichi, a lesson they all already learned to avoid. She gets constant complaints from school about her aggressive behaviour, yes, but her fights are always good intended and coming from a very well adjusted moral compass considering her age. She learned all the low words reading Daiki's manga and isn't shy at all to use her arsenal of cocky offenses, but where her words fail, her actions always proves she's willing to help everyone and not let any unfairness pass by her. Moments after he first met Dale Hunter, the longtime Knights head coach gave Easton Cowan a nickname that stuck.

“Cowboy.”

Born in Strathroy, Ont., Cowan comes from a farm in nearby Mount Brydges where his family farms cash crops like wheat, corn and soybeans. When the pandemic hit in 2020 and Cowan’s time in high school classes became limited, he began working on the farm from 6:30 in the morning till 9 at night during the busy farming seasons of spring and fall, driving a tractor beside the massive combine his father Chris uses to transfer crops.

“It’s the time you have to put in to succeed in the cash crop business of farming,” Chris told The Athletic.

That time on the farm helped instill a work ethic, as well as good ol’ farm strength, that Cowan has made his hallmark as a Knight. Ahead of the draft, Clark was clear: The Leafs wanted players who had intelligence, competitiveness and who could “influence winning hockey.”

Clark and the team’s scouting staff appear to have found a player who ticks those boxes.

“It’s a great picture of what (Cowan) could be in the NHL,” Knights associate general manager Rob Simpson said. “His motor and his engine on the ice, he is relentless and never stops working. And he’s the type of player that if you want him to play higher in your lineup with skilled guys and bring competitiveness and forechecking and skill, he can do that. If you want him to play a defensive game and play the penalty kill, he can do those things.”

That versatility was evident as the Knights went to the OHL final this season. During that playoff run that Simpson called “impactful,” Cowan’s game shone. The Leafs valued how he played in the playoffs, lapping up the spotlight and the pressure while leading all OHL rookies in playoff scoring with 21 points in 20 games.

It was his hockey sense, which shined with quick passing in the offensive zone, that popped in the playoffs. That hints at his potential for producing offence as he continues to develop.

Even though his smallish frame may remind some of past Leafs picks, it’s the fact that he’s become known as a “puck hound” according to Simpson that might well separate him from those picks. His competitiveness is well-established.

Cowan grew up a Leafs fan and said he models his game after Nazem Kadri.

Simpsons remembers games this year where Cowan would pinball from one defenceman to the other on the forecheck. He wouldn’t stop there. He chased after the puck wherever it went.

“He’s just relentless all over the ice at trying to get the puck and when he has it, he doesn’t want to give it up,” Simpson said.

He also appears pretty comfortable in his own skin.

“How’s it goin’?” Cowan, wearing black suede shoes with no socks, said as he took a seat in front of more cameras and reporters he’s likely ever faced.

Cowan beamed when he described FaceTiming with Mitch Marner.

“Happy you’re part of the Buds,” was what Cowan remembered hearing from Marner.

“That was pretty cool,” Cowan said. “(Marner) competes all over the ice. He’s a great player and a great guy. You look up to that.”

Cowan listed Knights equipment managers and trainers as people who helped propel him being an unlikely first-round pick.

Before leaving a table at the end of his media availability, he asked politely if he could take a box of Biosteel sitting in front of him.

“He’s so kind to everyone around him,” Cowan’s father said. “Not a lot of people know that about him.”

The long-term projection:

Cowan can play both centre and the wing but the Leafs likely see him more as a wing in the pros. While it’s remarkably early to start forecasting where Cowan might fit in an NHL lineup, it is fair to say the Leafs valued his sharp progression this past season and believe that he may just be scratching the surface of what type of player he can be.

His standout playoff performance especially, fueled by that tenacity, may have really struck a chord.

“The biggest thing that’s going to translate the best is his motor, his engine and competitiveness,” Simpson said. “You look at the NHL playoffs, you have to have players like that to be able to win these days.”

Cowan, who just turned 18 in May, will likely begin his time in the Leafs organization at the team’s development camp, set to begin July 3. It feels likely that Cowan will return to the Knights, not just next season, but for multiple seasons. He’s already intent on adding the kind of strength to his frame that will be necessary for him to one day join the Leafs in the NHL. That and improving his shot.

The Leafs appear comfortable making Cowan a long-term play for the organization.

“We’re trying to take the best player available, not today or tomorrow, we’re looking at the long run,” Clark said ahead of the draft.

But what Cowan could become in the long run is intriguing enough for the Leafs to have made perhaps the most surprising pick on day one of the draft.

distinguishing and elegant, the off-shoulder elongated the neck and the low neckline was lined with small almost-transluscent pearls and silver threads to capture the light and make their skin radiates under the fine diamond necklaces.

corsets obviously but we are far from the killing corsets Cordelia could wear to have one hell of a waist. In comparison, they were comfortable (again, their tailors were that good)

silk opera gloves, sometimes lacy ones to match the men's stupid shirts 🙄

layered skirts but not the bulky type (not the Empress Sissi style). Founder women didn't like the ballooning silhouette and found it unattractive as it didn't do them any favour.

preferred drawing attention to their waist and cleavage but also to their height.

skirts had to compliment and accentuate the length of the body as the First Blood women were taller than most female demons. (well see Cordelia. She's the tallest among the three wives and I suspect her to be actually quite 'short' for a founder woman.)

their silhouette is almost fae-like: lithe, lean and strong despite being overprotected and confined to that castle 😔

so the skirts were long, organza or taffeta draped the main skirt to give some dimension to the dress - no crinoline. maybe a bustle to add a little to their hips and bums

because the Founders can only be killed by decapitation, they provocatively exposed their necks a lot in their clothing style.

open ruffs (like a smaller Medici collar), off-shoulder, v-neck or sweetheart necklines...

Fate being a cruel mistress, this small game of silent provocation was definitely not what caused their ruin.

But you know what happened.

Now most of these lavish gowns and sumptuous coats are just crumbs of inspiration from an old system, left to be pecked.

9th february 1999, born and raised in seoul

father teacher at an elementary school, mother working at a supermarket only fair to say that jaewon has lived an average life, sitting on the lower scale of the middle class. has a sister younger than him by few years. always was the type who was drawing; there's so many childhood drawings back at their home done by him alone that one could probably make a whole new house out of it. however, he played football mostly, since kindergarten all throughout the start of high-school, due to his parents' wish. decided to quit at the start of high-school, under the excuse that he wants to focus on studies.

in reality, he's spent his free time returning to his true passion... which quickly spirals into him drawing all the time, filling one too many sketchbooks all too fast; studies of value, anatomy, charcoal, graphite, cheap (dry) pastels. he develops a liking for a flowy touch of charcoal, alike breathy strokes of ink, quickly gaining a personal style. it's all done through naver and whichever book he can dig up from the local library, though, because his parents aren't really supportive of him following the path of an artist. after all, they are all struggling to put bread on the table and they don't want their son to be like that too.

semi-decently liked in high school, hits puberty early and has that boy crush vibes to him; with him being generally nice to everyone there are a few dates here and there but nothing serious ever happens. he had a lot of acquaintances and a few good friends though.

during this time, alongside a somewhat unlimited access to the internet and its wonders while his parents work, he finds a liking to tattoos in a way that's more complex than saying oh that looks pretty on their skin. he starts copying work done on skin of western celebrities at first, then starts coming up with his own design. gets stick and poke material from a friend of a friend of a friend and starts doing stuff on his legs mostly, thankfully most of which is now covered up

in a way, his parents have been right. his hyper-focus on it, mixed with the rebellious "i'll do what i want to do with my life" phase leads jaewon into not really studying when he's meant to be studying, so throughout high-school, his grades tank a lot. unfortunately, it's not enough to be hardworking re: drawing and talented to enter university and in spite of the evident talent, jaewon fails to enroll.

his parents aren't happy with it obviously soo he almost goes for his mandatory service right away instead, but in that same rebellious manner he says no (for now) and spends next two years... working night shifts at one of those 24-hour convenience shops while also doing an apprenticeship, attending conventions, pestering and listening to whoever wants to speak to him of the work. safe to assume he did in fact look like a zombie 18-20 and he's been barely-contact with his parents during that time

dedication, time, skill, tears, suffering have him landing a job in seoul straight out of apprenticeship, at a rather smaller place where he spends a little over a year, still looking up to his seniors; though he doesn't stay there long.

a friend of a friend (plot!?) recommends him barracuda, even if it's a city away. it's better in every way, with it being at a mall rather than some side alleyway on outskirts of seoul's city centre, and apparently the pay is better. he travels to daegu to check it out, carrying his portfolio, and it's like both ends have hit a jackpot at that moment. it's also a change of environment that he thinks would suit him well mentally so...

he becomes a full time artist @ the place. really enjoys his work and the shop, earning himself a respected name in the span of next two years (and ongoing) that he's there. (if my timeline is wrong ignore that)

gone complete no-contact with his parents due to all of this (distance also helps) but his sister thinks he's cool and that's all that matters to him in the end. tends to sleep over inside barracuda often after staying in late, which doesn't bother him much in the end because he lives in a really small studio apt anyway

his work can be seen on ig (@bbiwon) as it stands as a online-portfolio (sketches, flashes, healed tats; persona is anonymous). without going into detail describing his style, i will simply say that his work is similar to work of moku (a forewarning that he tattoos butterflies in case anyone is icked by them); with that flowy, almost freehand looking strokes. i envision his "signature tattoo" being variations on koi fishes, done in that same 'brushy' stroke/airy style. one day when i'm not lazy i'll draw an example of this

personality wise, jaewon is very soft spoken and thoughtful of others, the type that is comforting even if he doesn't say anything. calm, scarcely angry (but really spiteful and grudge holding if you manage to piss him off), the type who starts conversation about anything and everything without being embarrassed about it. carefree to an extent, holding the belief that everything will work out well in the end; though often prone to making spur of the moment decisions in his personal life. compassionate, casual & easy-going, sociable, very much caring even in moments when he should be putting himself first. the type to notice if someone isn't talking in a group of people and try to involve them. tries and isnt opposed to small talk during sessions but also reads people easily and their comfort levels

some other tidbits: — plays league of legends, maintaining a masters rank for past several seasons — the type to have "loves long walks on the beach/by the river/lake and watching sunset" on tinder but still can't make it past the second date (he actually doesn't know what he wants out of a relationship) — likes to drink, friends know how physically affectionate he actually gets when drunk — vapes... strawberry flavour... i'm sorry — dresses baggy, streetwear, comfortable — his first personal instagram kind of blew up which made him uncomfortable, so he deleted that one and made a new one. now, it is actually private and really small selection of people — trying really hard to learn how to play the guitar but also not really successful at it. will play it however to everyone's misfortune — drives a motorcycle, skateboards — lover of alt music, fan of cigarettes after sex and collects their vinyl releases despite not owning a turntable — his hair is crying but he keeps bleaching it — carries his ipad with him 24/7, always sketching something in free time — aquarius sun scorpio moon scorpio rising but you see idk what any of it means — mitski - i bet on losing dogs.mp3

The edge is a start of a new mountain to climb...

I have conquered mountain by mountain to reach the edge. I’m not Nirmal Purja, the world's greatest mountaineer, but I have conquered the edge that accompanies professional growth as an OT, evoking a personal shift that gravitates toward the urge to consume more knowledge, skill, and experience. I close my eyes as I feel my legs start to tremble, giving in to the extensity of mental and physical demands of the degree, to the burning chest with little air to breathe, and my sight failing on me as I see the end so near but yet far.

All aboard! OT enthusiasts, the train is in motion; let the journey take you where you long to be, free your thoughts of the world you once knew, and as destiny unfolds, rising above the heavy storms, flooding derails the route to the top of the mountain.

The edge is calling as I jump into the uncertainties of a young and perplexed student the chaos shouts and fights for its existence. When I started in occupational therapy, I was introduced to the framework of being, belonging, and doing. I have seen the wilderness soon become my home, identifying the commonalities and the installation of hope as I mature and learn in the journey of OT. Why did I jump? Well, the darkness engulfed me whole, fear developing into confidence. Raising the white flag was not in my rucksack as I embarked on the hike toward becoming the therapist I envision becoming. When I encountered a difficult, culturally centred, unwilling, and egocentric client, I saw the anxiety and poor self-esteem protruding through the façade displaying my personal shortfalls became a great wall in achieving therapeutic goals. Moreover, poor cultural humility due to the lack of knowledge of the core principles in Nazareth Baptist Church contributed to the noncompliance and poor initiation, and cooperation.

The demands of OT motivate professional development and highlight the importance of cultural aspects of what we do and how they affect the quality of care, treatment outcomes and planning. We reside in a culturally rich country that enforces continuous learning, ensuring client-centeredness and a stepping stone to achieving cultural humility without our prejudices clouding our decisions, clinical judgment, and duty.

Belonging entails the prospect of self-actualization, which is comprised of three components: becoming, being competent, and becoming a social being. To effectively participate in active occupational roles, positive interpersonal relationships, and sustainability, you must indulge in introspection and reflection on your own performance, advocate for change, or redefine values. My greatest shortfall was the detachment process becoming a bumpy uphill switchback ride permeated by the power imbalances creating seas of high tides engaging at initial contact. When faced with adversity in an attempt to build a positive rapport I began to redefine the core values and detach from my moral compass to comprehend my client’s choices by not only hearing but listening to respect their right of choice to refuse therapy, and not equating it to my inadequacies.

To connect the dots and comprehend what we do, we developed the understanding of being evidence-based practitioners, rooting out what makes us therapeutic through clinical reasoning. World English is broadly categorised into three varieties: English as a Native Language (ENL), English as a Second Language (ESL) and English as a Foreign Language (EFL). India is considered as an ESL territory.

Realising this problem and the uses of English language, the system is gradually being transformed by K-12 digital content service providers. v curious to know which job questlines you consider canon for maty & why (doh/l included) 👀

nonny I love this question and I love you for asking about my girl 💖

first, a confession: despite having all my crafting jobs at 80+ and two of my three gathering jobs at 89/90, i’ve probably completed like half of the questlines?

otherwise! pretty much all of them are canon for maty except for two. the first is the dragoon questline which is unique imo because it feels so very dated after a certain point in the msq (basically, post-heavensward).

considering maty only learns the job after endwalker (and after being enough of a shit to estinien that he challenges her to actually learn the job), the estinien-centred storyline is a) a HUGE time warp and character regression for estinien and b) doesn’t fit the friendship estinien and maty have by that point. i’m also not a huge fan of the ‘two azure dragoons’ thing tbh. I prefer to let estinien have that as his own thing (I love that, canonly, estinien is still a better dragoon than the wol).

the second job questline I consider non-canon for maty is the dancer one. part of this is because I connect her skills to her background (her parents taught her and her sister to ‘entertain’, including dancing, to attract a wealthy husband) and because I don’t see maty as willing to indulge gegeruju and randomly joining a dance troupe. instead, she asks lyna to show her how to turn her ‘useless’ dancing training into something more lethal.

another job questline that I kind of smudge a bit for maty is the paladin one... because it sucks. it’s so so bad and it makes zero sense and I kind of just block it out and pretend that maty’s paladin abilities come from her merging her magic with her new defensive skills (gained through the gladiator training).

some of the others that seem a bit... weird (warrior, white mage) I just see her as grudgingly persevering through (post-endwalker maty in the background of curious gorge’s romcom: remember two months ago when I was doing shit like saving the fucking universe).

but all of the others fit maty and her journey quite well (with some occasional tweaks), especially in the order I did them. the black mage and summoner storylines are fairly integral to her ARR development, with red mage a natural progression in her post-ARR journey and machinist following once she reaches ishgard (because she’s developed an interest in engineering from cid). she learns paladin and white mage after heavensward (so she can defend/heal/never feel so helpless as she did watching haurchefant die). I see her learning samurai during stormblood, though I do alter the story somewhat so it starts through her getting some training from hien and then seeking out a mentor to improve herself. she picks up dark knight after stormblood, when she’s at her lowest, and it absolutely SLAPPED at that point (an actual physical manifestation of all her rage, grief, and self-loathing she feels at that point and HOLY SHIT did I time that well).

she picks up dancer and gunbreaker during quiet moments in shadowbringers in an effort to add to her combat capacity, the weight of her task (and the exarch/g’raha’s expectations) bearing on her, learning initially from lyna and thancred respectively (before completing her gunbreaker training through the questline). all the others kind of fit in after shadowbringers or after endwalker (maty deciding to use her time productively). notably, she picks up reaper after endwalker as a way of working through her weird feelings regarding zenos’ death. it also feels like a way of returning to her black mage roots, messing about with the void again. it’s also these periods in which she really dives into her crafting and gathering, working through the little guild (and guildmaster) crises in these periods where the world’s not ending (fave one of these is still alchemist btw). sometimes, it’s a way to refocus herself and do something simple and productive after such high stress and traumatising events. for instance, she starts mining as a way to finally address her survivors guilt and feel connected with minfilia after shadowbringers.

The Imperial States (1 of 2)

"42 years ago, the great Leonid Empire, last nation on Ittoril, collapsed, and since then, the many provinces which once made it up have never had good relations. They fought each other in what is considered the latter half of the Turf Wars. The fighting was bitter and ruinous, lasting 33 years, however, in 227 LE, they agreed to a treaty, and for the past 9 years we have been living in relative peace. This treaty, the Treaty of Leona, also solidified those fractured provinces into sovereign nations; they are the Imperial States, and there are seven of them; seven last strongholds of civilization in the otherwise ruined world.

The Junta. The rocky wasteland in which the Junta resides is incredibly hostile. Not only is it so sucked of moisture and sunburnt that one can barely stand, but it is also home to the Rolling Storm. Twice yearly, a seasonal sandstorm passes across the desert, and brings with it not just huge vortexes of dust and sand, but also swarms of strange creatures — "ramilqeeda" they are called — scavengers that prey on the unlucky souls whom the storm didn't quite finish off.

As a nation, the Junta is ruled by a military dictatorship, which seized power as the Junta rebelled against the empire — but the Junta was highly militaristic even when it was part of the empire, and it was often the centre of its military development. Its invention of the steam engine allowed it to power all kinds of war machinery, from the powerful Steamcannons to the terrifying Ironsides — but what Junta engineers deem their masterpieces are the Warforged; steam-powered soldiers made of metal and wheels, who still wander the desert to this day.

The Reseggian Confederacy. During the battles of the Turf Wars, several of the kingdoms in the south formed an alliance which, at the end of the Turf Wars, was solidified into the Reseggian Confederacy (although it is more commonly known as "Reseggia" or "the Five Kingdoms").

In the centre-west is Milfordshire, a poor kingdom ruled by the venerable Queen Elizabeth Gilbridge. She is rather disliked by her people; Milfordshire is rather poor, not due to a lack of resources, but to the exorbitant consumption and vanity of the royal family. Elizabeth claims she has a "divine right" to her rulership and luxuries; she is one of the few rulers in Reseggia who still believes in Consulate Orthodoxy.

In the north-east is Lernaea, a grimy kingdom ruled by House Lernaean. The Lernaean Family are incredibly secretive, so much so that nobody in Lernaea, besides the palace staff, know the faces of any of them besides King Leon; Leon and Queen Arianna are the only ones ever seen in public, and Arianna is always wearing an opaque, black veil. The family rules in a similarly secretive fashion; people of Lernaea aren't told anything — they never know what the Lernaeans are doing behind their backs.

In the north-west is Hornland, a jungled kingdom ruled by Commander Dahlia of House Hearn. Dahlia is a highly militant leader, and is one of the best military tacticians in Ittoril. She is also disliked by her people, in part because she lacks skill in every part of rulership other than war, and in part because she is a tiefling.

In the south-east is Weyland. Unlike the other kingdoms, Weyland has a majority dwarven population; it is home to the beach dwarves on the south coast and to the hill dwarves further north in the Weyland Hills. It is ruled by Omarkis Jeilsen, a beach dwarf who would rather be clawed by crabs than do anything involving the governing of his own kingdom (so long as the crabs clawed him on a sunny day). He insists on being called "Mark".

Finally, there is Rellica in the south-west, which could be said to be the best place to live in Reseggia (though that is not a high bar to clear). Its ruler is Veronica Reed, who is often given the title "the Songsmith". She is seen as a more down-to-earth ruler than others, for she is a master orator — able to inspire her people to great things. More cynical people would prefer to call her a master propagandist.

The kingdoms of Reseggia still act largely autonomously, each ruled by their own noble houses, but the heads of those five houses (along with other, influential "trade houses") do form the Council of Reseggia, which presides over matters which span the whole confederacy.

The Golden Hills. Upon the hills of the north shores of the Meridán ride fields of bountiful grain which are known as "the Golden Hills". Its people are a modest and peaceful race of farmers, whose society is most defined by the monastic order which runs through it. The Monks of Gilding believe in the concept of "Ichor" — lifeblood. They believe that through all people (and even through all objects) circulates a golden blood which gives them life, and through which connects them to the world. When they die, they believe their Ichor is returned to Ittoril to fertilise its land and be circulated again into future generations of life.

The people of the Golden Hills, through spiritual practices, seek to find a connection to their Ichor — a connection to the world — a process known as "gilding". The leader of the Monks of Gilding (and thus, of the Golden Hills) is said to have achieved this connection to the world — to have become fully one with it. They are known only as "the Gilded One". The Gilded One is a kind individual, described as amiable, humorous, and largely carefree. When the imperial troops of the Leonid Empire arrived on the doorstep of the Great Monastery, it's said that the Gilded One greeted them with a joke, and then signed away the Golden Hills on the spot, saying "to fight back; it is no use!".

Since then, the Golden Hills had remained a part of the empire, allowed to keep their way of life on the condition that they provided the empire access to their plentiful grain. When the empire fractured, the Golden Hills still didn't resist the further occupations of the Turf Wars, at least, not until those occupations sought to attack their way of life, in which cases the Golden Hills wouldn’t hesitate to defend themselves with their full power."
