heres the normal golbaby designs for melinoe, melopia and relle. not canon to the revived timeline yet, idk if they will be. but theres a reason they look so different from morri (they along with oberon were a). not conceived through a speck of cosmic energy and b). conceived between two entities rather than GOLBetty and a human.

so I might be having a blast playing Rebirth, but I'm still thinking Octo2 stuff, and just realized bc of the Dolcinaea fight I could see the weaknesses for every character (except Agnea) and since I can turn just about any random detail into a "hmm, does this mean anything" thought exercise, here's some observations (minor story spoilers):
Throne, Osvald, and Partitio have the fewest weaknesses at 3. This makes sense for Throne and Osvald (professional thief/assassin raised to be a thief/assassin, Throne can't have any openings if she hopes to survive; Osvald relied on his keen observation to Shawshank Redemption himself out of prison, so of course he'd have fewer openings bc he's always keeping an eye on things around him). But Partitio surprised me--although it does make some sense, he had to keep his wits about him to become the best merchant in Oresrush, and he's wicked smart (honestly, Ori's the only one who ever seems able to genuinely sneak up on him, and that makes sense given that she's, y'know, Ori).
Hikari has no weaknesses to weapons of any sort, and only has elemental weaknesses as a result. He is not weak to light or dark though (a reference to Shadow's Hold/Light's Radiance or else his bloodlines perhaps?). On the flipside Osvald has no weaknesses to elements and only weaknesses to weapons (all the weapons he's weak to--polearms, daggers, and bows--are "ranged" in some sense, suggesting his magic maybe makes it impossible to get close enough to attack him).
Throne and Temenos continue to act as foils to each other, with Throne having only one elemental weakness to light, and Temenos having only one elemental weakness to dark. Throne's only two weapon weaknesses are axes and bows, which sort of makes sense (either someone has to get close enough to strike her quickly or they have to attack from a very far distance to get the drop on her; there are also interestingly the hunter's base weapon set, so the only way to stop a thief is to hunt them; also there's a ranged bow counter to her close-range sword and a close-range axe counter to her ranged dagger). Temenos's weapon weaknesses include swords, daggers, and axes, which are interestingly all "close range" weapons to some degree (Temenos never lets anyone get too close to him emotionally, so it makes sense the only way to actually harm him would be to "get close" to him; swords and daggers are also the thief's base weapon set, and given how much assassination goes on in his story, it makes sense he too would be vulnerable to Throne's trade weapons).
Partitio's only elemental weakness is ice (makes sense given how arid his hometown is). He has a weakness to swords and staves, both close range weapons to contrast the longer-ranged polearm and bow weapons he uses.
Castti's only weapon weakness are bows (a long-range contrast to her shorter-ranged axe), but her elemental weaknesses are what's really interesting. She has a weakness to fire (this makes sense, given that she has an ice-based skill, and a lot of water symbolism in her story arc), but also wind and dark--the two key elements needed to create and spread the purple rain that nearly killed her.
Ochette's the only character with a balance of two weapon weaknesses and two elemental weaknesses: polearms and staves (a longer-ranged weapon to counter her short-ranged axe, and a close-ranged weapon to counter her long-ranged bow); and fire and wind (wind makes sense given that it's the usual weakness to thunder, which is the only elemental attack she has access to in her base skillset, but her weakness to fire is more interesting--is it because she lives in a forest, which are historically susceptible to fires? or because she lives surrounded by water, and fire is the natural opposite?)
Hikari is the only character weak the thunder, just as Throne and Temenos are the only characters weak to light and dark respectively. The other major elements all have two travelers weak to them: Ochette and Castti to fire, Partitio and Hikari to ice, and Castti and Hikari to wind.
Likewise, every weapon is strong against at least two characters, with the exception of bows which are strong against three characters. Swords: Partitio and Temenos, Polearms: Ochette and Osvald, Daggers: Osvald and Temenos, Axes: Throne and Temenos, Bows: Castti, Throne, and Osvald, Staves: Ochette and Partitio.
I dunno if there's any significance to the pattern of: every weapon is strong against two characters except one is strong against three, and every element is strong against two characters except for three elements that are only strong against one character each. But it is some fancy balancing for as far as numbers go.
Anyhow I wasn't going anywhere with this, these were just some interesting observations I wanted to jot down instead of going to bed like I should have half an hour ago.

Okay, here are my current notes on the Markarth Incident. This is more of an evolution of thought rather than a final product, 'kay? 'kay. XOXO
4E 174 – The Empire recalls all Legions from the far corners of the Empire to participate in the final assault against the Aldmeri-held Imperial City. Every town and city not on the frontlines is left with a skeleton garrison.
The Reachmen of Western Skyrim chooses to capitalize on this movement. The Reachmen populate an area of Western Skyrim, Eastern High Rock, and Northern Hammerfell. Although they appear similar to the Bretons of High Rock, they are wholly distinct, worshipping gods completely detached from those of Breton culture. During the Second Era, they once ruled Cyrodiil as the Longhouse Emperors; in recent history, they have lived subject to other races, primarily the Nords, who rule much of the Reach. More often than not, Reachmen are second-class citizens, though very rarely have they received decent though not preferential treatment from a Nordic Jarl.
When the Empire recalls their Legions, the capital of the Reach, Markarth, is left functionally undefended. A Reachman leader, Madanach, takes this opportunity to seize the city and install a Reachmen government in place of the Nords. Madanach declares himself King of the Reach and succeeds the Reach from Skyrim. Contemporary Imperial documents show that Madanach sent emissaries to Emperor Titus Mede II in an attempt to have the Reach recognized as its own Imperial Province wholly separate from Skyrim. Titus Mede appeared to have taken this into serious consideration, though he was unable to give it his full attention as the Empire was planning their attack on the Imperial City.
Conflicting reports on the time frame of the Reachman takeover exist. Reports vary between the takeover beginning in Fourth Era 174 and 177 when the conflict was over. Contemporary Imperial and Forsworn documentation claim that Madanach’s rule was relatively stable, saying he was fair to the Nords, his people ousted from power, and allowed them to remain in the city so long as they recognized his government. It is said that live around Markarth continued in the same way as before, though under the Reachmen rather than the Nords. It may be important to note that Nord landholders who “mistreated” their Reachmen servants were put to death.
The Nordic perspective (as shared by Jarl Igmund in Fourth Era 201) claims that the Reachmen takeover was violent, leading to a chaotic period in which Nords were heavily discriminated against and no civil cooperation between races.
[Madanach’s version of events MAY be closer to the truth. N.B: During his rule, he seems willing to help a group of dissident Blades in exchange for a favor.]
The White-Gold Concordat is signed 11th of Sun’s Dusk, Fourth Era 175; Surviving veterans of the Battle of the Red Ring return to their homes, including large populations of Nordic legionnaires. Talos worship is outlawed. Talos temples are closed, though many continue to worship him in private. Ulfric Stormcloak takes offense to the banning of Talos worship, viewing it as a central aspect of Nord culture. His father, Hoag, the Jarl of Windhelm and Bear of Eastmarch, does not legalize Talos worship despite Ulfric’s religiosity. It may be that he wishes to avoid a conflict with the Empire. Jarl Hrolfdir of Markath, in exile by Madanach’s government, promises Ulfric and his supporters religious freedom should they take back the Reach from the Reachmen. This is in blatant disregard of the White-Gold Concordat.
Ulfric leads a militia across Skyrim to the Reach where they took back Markarth. A few Reachmen leaders were imprisoned, though others were killed, along with most of their warriors, though some were driven off into the surrounding wilds. The survivors in exile began to call themselves the Forsworn. They attack Nords and the Empire indiscriminately due to anger and feelings of betrayal.
Most of the Reachmen leaders are killed. However, allegedly at the request of the Silver-Blood family, Madanach is taken prisoner and held in the depths of Cidhna Mine. The Forsworn claim that the Nords, under Jarl Hrolfdir and Ulfric Stormcloak, took back the city through an excess of unnecessary violence, putting to death or imprisoning anyone who had even spoken to Madanach or said his name. It is also said that the family members of those who were deemed to be against the Nords’ rule were imprisoned or killed, even down to young children. Purported Imperial propaganda puts forth that Ulfric himself killed everyone in Markarth who would not join his cause.
It is true that there was bloodshed and death of innocents during the retaking of Markarth. The factuality of this claim can be traced to those Reachmen who survived the incident, sharing their experiences twenty-five years afterward.
Jarl Hrolfdir was assassinated during attempted peace talks with the Forsworn after the retaking of Markarth. It may be that the incident only grew violent after this point due to Nordic retaliation.
Why would Ulfric and Jarl Hrolfdir use that much unnecessary violence and brutality against the Reachmen if they intended to negotiate with them afterward?
Perhaps Igmund instigates the brunt of the violence against the Reachmen following his father’s death.
Jarl Hrolfdir was marked for death by the Dark Brotherhood. It is unknown who performed the Black Sacrament on the Jarl. It is possible someone from outside the conflict placed the contract on Jarl Hrolfdir’s head as a means of sewing chaos between the opposing sides (it could have been Igmund or Raerek [crack theory; maybe the brother was trying to Lion King his way into power and failed miserably? Or one of them opposed making peace with the Reachmen], or perhaps it was the Aldmeri Dominion?). Regardless, the Jarl’s death is the probable instigator for the deaths of many of the Reachman remaining in Markarth.
The Imperial Legion shows up not long after the city is retaken. They are seemingly thankful that Ulfric’s militia took back the Reach. When Ulfric lets them into the city, he asks that they recognize the free worship of Talos that Jarl Hrolfdir had legalized in the Reach; otherwise, the Legion would be fought off. The Imperial Legate (or general?) present at the time okays Ulfric’s request, effectively breaking the White-Gold Concordat. Again. Not long after, the Thalmor discovered this and took issue with this breach of treaty. They give the Empire an ultimatum: disband Talos worship in the Reach or prepare for the Great War to be renewed.
Ulfric and his followers are arrested and imprisoned by the Empire as Talos worship is again banned. The Empire must crack down on cases of Talos worship across the province. In consequence of the incident, the Thalmor gain access to Skyrim for their Justiciars through an Embassy. This is allegedly to enforce the terms of the White-Gold Concordat after it had been broken by the Nords in Fourth Era 176/7, but on an underground level, this allows the Thalmor to hunt, capture, and torture suspected Talos worshippers. The coming of the Thalmor Justiciars to Skyrim is technically a domino effect caused by Ulfric’s demand for free and open Talos worship.
Jarl Hrolfdir’s assassination happens during Ulfric and his supporters imprisonment. It may be possible that it was Ulfric OR one of his men who performed the Black Sacrament (though how could they do this while in an Imperial prison? Ulfric had to smuggle out his eulogy for his father’s funeral – what is the Imperial prison smuggling system like? Could any of them have had access to a dead body? Smuggled in or that of a fellow prisoner?). Whoever performed the Black Sacrament on Jarl Hrolfdir is the root cause for the retribution killings of the Reachmen. (Perhaps it was Thonar Silver-Blood?)
Ulfric is an uncooperative asset to the Thalmor, not because he ever cooperated with them in the first place, but because he is the (unintended) reason they have such a strong foothold in Skyrim now.

Thinking about the fact that A.B.A's creator (I wanna call him Dr. Paracelsus to differentiate him from key Paracelsus) could very well still be alive out there somewhere, cause he wasn't said to have been killed, he was just taken by a military organization (?!) for his skills-
And while I don't think they ever confirmed a connection, it feels like almost too obvious that he'd be in some way tied to the creation of Frasco II, given that it's called Frasco II

-ˋˏ✄┈ summary: after the talk that ellie and joel have, where ellie decides to try to forgive joel, she can't stop thinking about wanting to solve their problems, so she's going to watch a movie with him
-ˋˏ✄┈ word count: 1.4k
-ˋˏ✄┈ warnings: none, it's a cute story that happens before that moment of joel in the last of us part ii. cute moments of father/daughter relationship
The streets of Jackson stretch out before me, too silent and icy for my liking. With each step, I feel the weight of my thoughts, a mixture of nervousness and hope propelling me forward. I had argued with Joel again earlier, and it was something I hated, but I couldn't stop the anger from blinding me.
I walked the familiar streets, but this time my mind was somewhere else. I remembered every word, every look, every difficult moment since I found out the truth about what he had done. I felt like he had taken away an essential part of me. Shouldn't it have been my decision? What had I fought so hard for if in the end I couldn't save anyone?
The sun began to set on the horizon, I can see the shadows of the trees lengthening and the tingle of anticipation rising in my chest in record time. Deep down, deep down, and behind all my negative feelings, I longed for everything to work out. I'm willing to try for him. As stubborn as I'm, I know that Joel is worth a try. I know he didn't mean any harm, he just cared about me.
I walked aimlessly, lost in thought, but at the same time longing for the moment when I would be reunited with Joel. Yes, despite everything, I promised him that I would make an effort to forgive him. I would try to bury my impulses deep in my thoughts. That night, we were going to watch a movie together, a small attempt to reconnect, to remind each other that, despite everything, we still had each other… Fuck, I can't say otherwise, he's the only person I've ever been able to trust.
I have nightmares of his watery eyes on a daily basis. Other days it's dead people, begging for help. But again it's his eyes. Guilt kept me awake on other nights. I'm a mess.
I'm early, too early, but I can't help but feel nervous and excited at the same time. I know tonight is important, a time to try to rebuild what we once had.
I finally make it to his porch, without even thinking about it. Through the window I can see that Joel is looking at some DVDs. I'm sure he's nervous too. Even though I'm already at the door, I prefer to take a deep breath before I hit the door. With every beat of my heart, I feel the weight of the decision I'm about to make. But the weight melts on the spark of hope, a small light in the darkness that reminded me that, even in the hardest of times, he had been with me.
With a little uncertainty, I raise my hand and knock gently on the door. I wait, holding my breath, wondering what Joel will think of seeing me here sooner than expected. My thoughts swirl through my mind, wondering if I should have waited a little longer, if I'm being too impulsive once again.
The door slowly opens and I meet Joel's surprised gaze. His eyes widen a little wider than usual, marking the wrinkles in his eyes. For a moment, neither of us says anything, we just stare at each other, as if trying to find the right words to break the silence. I'm scratching my head without realising it, like a reflex action.
I shrug, trying to look nonchalant when I'm actually shaking inside. "I just wanted to make sure I was here on time," I reply, trying to ignore the knot in my stomach.
Then a slow smile spreads across his face, breaking the tension in the air. "Ellie," he says in a soft voice, as if he can't believe I'm here. "What are you doing here so early?
The surprise on Joel's face slowly fades, replaced by a warm smile. "Well, that's unusual coming from you," he jokes, but there's something else in his tone, something that makes me feel like he appreciates my effort to be here.
I feel a little more relaxed at his reaction. Maybe I'm not as out of place as I thought. With a nervous smile, I step through the door and into his house, ready to face whatever might happen.
My eyes fill with tears and I have to make an effort to hold them back. The tenderness and love I see in the photograph overwhelms me, and for a moment, I just want to run to Joel and hug him tightly, to cling to him as if my life depended on it, as if I were a child. But I restrain myself, keeping my emotions in check as I listen to him speak.
As I enter Joel's house, my eyes sweep around the room, and what I see takes my breath away. It is spotlessly clean, tidy in a way I haven't seen in a long time. The clothes that used to cover the furniture are gone, it even smells good. My eyes stop on an old television set in a corner, next to which is a DVD ready to play. But what really makes me stop is the framed photograph that adorns his desk. It's a picture of the two of us, taken a long time ago, when things were simpler, before the world became so dark and complicated, more than usual. The photo seems to radiate warmth and happiness, and I feel a lump in my throat as I think of all we've been through since then.
"I hope you feel comfortable," Joel says, his voice soft and emotionally charged. "I picked a movie I thought you might like. Well…I don't know, but it's a classic."
I nod, unable to find the words to express what I'm feeling right now. But that gesture, the way he's set this up for us, says more to me than words ever could. Silently, I settle into the sofa, feeling the warmth of his presence beside me.
"The Searchers, starring John Wayne. One of the best cowboy movies ever made. You know, shootings, revenge…fun stuff."
"Is it a cowboy movie?" I smirk, it was always cowboy movies.
That laugh that comes out of his mouth proves me right without me needing to say anything else.
I can't help but laugh when I hear that. "I don't know who this John Wayne guy is, but he sure knew how to have fun."
The film starts playing on the screen, but I barely pay attention to what's going on. Instead, I find myself lost in my thoughts, in my memories. And as Joel sits beside me, sharing this moment with me, I know that we are taking a step in the right direction, in a way.
The vast, barren landscapes slowly captured my attention. I had to make the joke about how it wasn't that easy to ride a horse, otherwise I was going to explode.
The film is over and part of me wants to keep the fact that I loved it, but I end up blurting out "Brutal" as the end credits roll and Joel laughs.
Joel and I shared comments on the most interesting scenes and got excited about every plot twist, we also laughed quite a bit at certain points. As the film progresses, I feel the tension slowly fade, replaced by a sense of wonder and fascination. The vivid imagery and captivating narrative keep us glued to the screen, totally immersed in the story. John Wayne sure did it well.
The room is now bathed in the dim light of night, and my stomach emits a loud growl, reminding me that I'm hungry. Joel gestures and says knowingly, "What if we go out for dinner?"
Tumblr media
I nod enthusiastically, grateful that he's the one to say so. For a moment, as we're leaving his house and discussing the film, I feel like I'm fourteen again. That I feel again that maybe I'm not as alone as I think I am and that maybe I can still consider him my family, despite everything. Maybe in a while everything can go back to the way it was before.
