MINSAN MAY ISANG PUTA
by : Mike Fortes
In this short story titled "Minsan May Isang Puta" Written by Mike Fortes, it focuses on the problems women face in their lives and often resort to desperate measures to fulfill their needs. The title has a nuanced meaning and symbolizes the changing and turbulent lives of women involved in prostitution. Beyond its literal interpretation, the title suggests that anyone can navigate situations that can be stigmatizing. The story uses metaphorical language that invites readers to delve into the word "puta" reveals a deeper layer of meaning that deserves to be explored.
On the other hand, there is a relationship with the author and the main character. The relationship between them is the author tells about the main character, who is Pilipinas. Pilipinas is the main character here, she is the center of attention because the author gives her attention while telling her story. From this short story, we can see that the environment of the story or the environment where the story took place was a messy and not healthy environment and the atmosphere of the story seems to be a hot or messy atmosphere. The plot of this Novel is that it will finally be revealed that the children of this woman who is Pilipinas were the ones who ruined her life. And finally he revealed himself as the main character because I thought the main character was the author. After telling her story, she was finally able to say her name.
Conflicts were mentioned in this short story. This short story presented the problems of how Pilipinas sees her relationship with a foreigner and his children. Also, it was her debt, she is struggling with how to pay her debt. Pilipinas and every character in this novel has a problem. They can't solve their problems because they keep adding and adding one problem at a time instead of a solution. Here it is obvious that the conflicts are human versus society, human versus human, human versus consciousness, and human versus self. However, this short story was fictional but often happened in real life. This short story introduced the characters. They give color to the story. The main character is Pilipinas, she has children and had a relationship with 3 foreigners, of course the neighbors who gossip about her life. The main character stood out by telling his story in great detail, while the secondary character was already inside the main character's story.
This short story leads or brings us to reality. It shows how reality is so cruel and confusing. For me the theme used here is tragedy and the author wanted to tell us that no matter how hard life is, don't do anything stupid. Don't try to do bad things and don't be a bitch for once. Don't waste your life, think about the solution to your problems, not the problem.

MINSAN MAY ISANG P*TA
The story “Minsan may isang P*ta” by Mike Portes is about a prostitute mother  who’s willing to do everything for her children just to give a better life, even if she will lose her dignity and respect from others. And it symbolizes how the woman changed her self and her life after she become prostitute. This literal is about the story of a prostitute mother. Pilipinas is like a bird inside a cage, because she is trying to get outside the cage but she still choose to stay for her children. Many people are making gossip about her but she didn’t listen to them and continue being a prostitute. The main character in this story is the mother who sacrifice her body just to give a better life for her children. The plot of the story is there’s a woman who named Pilipinas and her work is being a prostitute, and unexpectedly she fell in love with a foreigner but treated her like a slave, and they become a family but they broke up immediately. She chose this work to pay all the debt that she has. So the author wants to tell us that no matter how hard life is our mother still wants the best to make us happy and healthy, even if it can ruin their image as a human they will still do it for their children.

MINSAN MAY ISANG PUTA
In this short story, the title of it is "Minsan May Isang Puta". The author of this short story is Mike Fortes. "Minsan May Isang Puta" talks about how women struggle in life and sometimes they got into trouble just to provide their needs. The title of this short story has a different meaning, the title symbolizes the life of every woman on how their lives change and become a mess because of being a prostitute. The literal meaning of the title is sometimes we can become or turn into a slut. Also, the story used a metaphor as a figure of speech. It means there's a meaning behind this word "puta" that we need to identify.
On the other hand, there is a relationship with the author and the main character. The relationship between them is the author narrates the story of the main character which is Pilipinas. Pilipinas is the main character here, she's the center of attention here because the author gives an attention to her when he narrates her story. We can seen in this short story that the environment or surrounding where the story happened was messy and not healthy environment and the atmosphere on that story seems like hot or mixed atmosphere.
The plot of this short story is it turns out in the end that the children of this woman which is Pilipinas were the one who destroyed her life. And in the end, she revealed herself as the main character because I thought the main character was the author. In the end, she was able to tell her name after narrating her story.
In this short story, the action who have done by the characters were in maximum limit because some actions in the story were not suitable for a young child if they're going to read this story.
Of course, in this short story there were conflicts mentioned. This short story presented the problems about how Pilipinas struggles with her relationships with the foreigner and with her children. Addition of this was her debt, she struggles on how to pay off with her debt.
Pilipinas and every character here in this short story has a problem. They can't solve their problems because they add and add a problem at a time instead of solution. It's obvious here that the conflicts are man v.s society, man v.s man, man v.s conscious, and man v.s himself.
However, this short story was fictious but often happened in real life. In this short story, the characters were presented. They're the one who gives the story a color. The main character is Pilipinas, she has children and had a relationship with 3 foreigners, of course her neighbors who gossip about her life. The main character distinguished through telling her story very detailed while the secondary character was already included in the story of the main character.
This short story takes us or leads us into reality. It shows how reality so cruel and messy. For me, the theme applied here is tragedy and the author wanted to tell us that no matter how hard life is, don't do anything stupid. Don't try to do bad things, don't be a slut even if it just once. Don't waste your life, think a solution to your problems not another problem.

2 months before this year ends...
Tumblr media
Wow, times flies really fast and without any notice. Well, the bottom line of my year was that I loss a lot of things. Like it's a kind of a loss for some reasons. I can't decipher this as a negative connotation because I see these losses as a lesson and an opportunity to be more. Yes, it upsets you at times, but adversity is always there. I always look into it that "kung hindi ka natatalo, hindi ka na gumagalaw." as one the quotes from the movie "Bar Boys". I came to realize as well that even though you had already constructed a plan on your mind for your future, you can't really predict what could happen along the way while you're executing your plans. I really believe that life is uncertain.
These past few months, as I had mentioned on my previous blog, I cut out someone important to me, I had to undergo surgery because of the frequent pain I was feeling on my abdomen, and the lastly, I just lost my dream job.
I'm currently on rest and unexpectedly had a new job coming up. I was planning to take rest until next year because I felt like I pushed myself too hard to a point that I couldn't anymore focus, and I felt so blessed to have my mother that was so understanding on my situation. Sometimes, my mother would notice how devastated I was from what was happening to me lately. She always brushes my head and then indirectly saying that everything will be okay. At the end of the day, yun din talaga ang kailangan mo.
Going back, those losses that I had are like a blessing in disguise. I never knew cutting off people can also give you peace of mind, I may have remnants of despair but it's better not to bring back people in your life that made you feel worthless. You can live without them. Now that as well I am learning to prioritize myself first. I'm also cutting out my medication for my mental health gradually and trying other ways to overcome my condition. Bukod kasi sa ang mahal magpagamot dito sa Pilipinas, nagiging dependent na ako sa gamot and I hate taking pills everyday, feeling ko masisira yung internal organs ko. Well, there is always a consequence on your every decision though. I read books about positivity, psychology, and understanding yourself, then going out with friends, going to coffee shops, taking a walk in the park, going to church, and of course, writing journals just like this. I must say that it's a good alternative for me. I don't want to be drawn by the pills since I also want to live healthy now that my gallbladder was removed. Man, that was one of the most unforgettable experiences of my life. I just thought that a tablet of laxative could help me get through the frequent stomach pains I was getting. Now, I am having a hard time losing weight again. I got back to my highest point again. I realized that my way of losing weight was wrong. I want to do my workout routines before pero nahihirapan pa ako because of my scar. Medyo masakit pa. I feel so unhealthy lately and I need to get back on track little by little.
Now talking about losing a job, at first I took the loss so badly that I isolated myself after I left the office. I thought about coming back and re-apply kasi gusto kong bumawi at para bang itama yung mga pagkakamali ko noon. But lately, I've been getting signs and realizations na hindi na dapat. As I dug through and thought about the days I spent on my previous job, I sort of burned out myself. The company was all good and had amazing benefits but the standards that the company needs from their employees was so high. So, while getting to the finish line (regularization), there were a lot of signs that this was not meant for me. Para bang every week may anxiety ka na baka matanggal ka na and kahit week off mo, iniisip mo parin ang metrics mo. I'm thankful to have an experience being part of this company and being with my amazing colleagues and mentors because I was able to maximize all the benefits and ang dami ko talagang natutunan when it comes to handling stressful situations. Being on customer service role needs a lot of patience and willingness to adapt because this is one of the most mentally and physically draining jobs you can be in even if the pay is quite good.
Though at times I felt in every waking moment my purpose and plans are getting out of hand. It's really hard to resist being lonely and having existential crisis. As a child, I always look forward to becoming an adult to have this sense of freedom. But now that I'm an adult, you can afford to have freedom, but you also have the pressure because as they all say, with great power comes with great responsibility.
I just don't want to thrive to survive all the time, I also wanted to live. But you must still have to work on the freedom you're aiming for, and that's the reality. I still believe na I will meet the successful me that I am always manifesting.

my future.
Lord, I have asked you for signs for a number of times. There were times where my wishes went according to my will, and there were also times where confusion met my thoughts. I cannot recall if this is the first time that I am doing this because of a guy, but I am sure that I like him with all that he is, because finally, a guy who has met my standard is within my proximity.
Lord, my past is full of settling for the guys who were available in the moment. My dating history says that they were the ones who liked me first. I have never experienced being liked back and being dated by that person. Now that I am wiser, I want a better love life. I want to stick by what I want in a guy and not be distracted by temporary pleasure caused by flings or by any boy that I meet at a bar or any gathering that requires alcohol. I am not saying that I do not enjoy kissing a guy casually, but I am afraid that continuing to do so would prevent me from meeting the guy of my dreams. Would I want to be in a relationship with someone who kisses different guys at bars? I bet not. So, I have to change. I also have to be a woman that fits the guy who has the standard that I set for myself.
Lord, you know the guy that I like more than I do, but I still want to emphasize the qualities that my guy should have and what he should be once we are in a relationship. These are the following:
1. Smart. He should be intelligent in all aspects. Of course, I like a guy who is academically smart, but I like him even more if he is emotionally intelligent. I also want him to be street-smart. 2. Kind. The world is already cruel, I do not want another guy to add more to that cruelty. He has to be kind because I want a relationship that embodies a safe space for him and I. 3. Soft-spoken. I do not want an obnoxious guy. 4. Family-oriented. I love my family more than anything, and I am planning to have a healthy family of my own someday. I don't think a guy who does not give importance to his family would be able to give me the family of my dreams. 5. Foodie. I like food a lot and am willing spend money on food. I hope he is as adventurous as I am, because I do not want to stop trying restaurants and coffee shops just because someone does not enjoy it as much as I do. 6. Loves to travel. I may not be able to travel right now, but I want to see the world. I do not want a guy who would hinder me from that. 7. Loves me more than I love him. 8. Respect me so much. 9. Shows the 5 love languages. 10. Tall. Please lang, gusto ko talaga ng matangkad. Iba talaga ang dating basta matangkad. 11. Handsome. Gusto ko rin ng gwapo. Please, please, please. 12. Inspires me to become better. 13. Gives me peace of mind. I have experienced being with someone who made me overthink and I did not like it. I will never like it. 14. Has a good hygiene. 15. Accepts me for who I am, especially my imperfections in all aspects. 16. Loves my family like his own. 17. His family loves me like I am their own. 18. Gives me assurance that he loves me. 19. Will never cheat on me. 20. Loyal and faithful. 21. Smells good. 22. Neat and organized. 23. VERY AFFECTIONATE. 24. Not scared of showing his emotions. 25. Will hold my hands in public. Kiss din. No to guys na takot sa public display of affection. 26. Willing to live abroad with me. Basta yang he's ready for geographical changes. 27. WILL SAY THE PASSWORD THAT I HAVE MADE.
(date added: 4/15/23) 28. His friends will accept me wholeheartedly.
(date added: 4/23/23) 29. He DOES NOT HAVE any feeling towards his ex girlfriends, ex flings and ex crushes. Dapat naka-move on na sya completely, kasi ayaw ko na gipili ako just because I was the one who was available. I do not deserve being treated like that.
Will probably edit this, but for now, ito muna.
Lord, please, give this guy to me. Please, Lord. I know there is someone out there, Lord.
For now, Lord, you know I like someone. If he is not for me, then please, help me get over him. Please don't let me get my hopes up. Please let me see him as a friend. I don't want to romanticize him anymore, Lord. Please, just let him see him as a friend if he really is not for me.

KWENTO SA LIKOD NG KATHA'T LAYA PILIPINAS (Youth organization)
"Gusto naming sa amin magsimula ang pagbabago dahil naniniwala pa rin kaming Kabataan ang pagasa ng Bayan, at naniniwala kami na sa pagabante ng adbokasiya ay ang paglaya gamit ang sining at literatura"
For the Youth and by the Youth.
Their mission is to provides an avenue to raise awareness on the relevant issues in the Philippines and all around the globe, while also striving for a better tomorrow. The organization aims to empower the youth in raising advocacies that help in achieving sustainable development towards the future. Katha't Laya pushes to encourage the people to uphold justice, have integrity, and seek positive changes for the good of all.
And their vision is to strive for positive changes that will nurture the world and empower the youth to aim for sustainable development towards the future by promoting advocacies through arts and literature, imbued with justice, compassion, and benevolence.
According to the National Executive Council, nagkakilala silang lahat dahil sa ibang organization na parte sila. They are really open sa changes, at willing silang i-embrace yon for their growth.
"Naging litmus test ang KL sa akin towards a step to national youth leadership. In addition, may impact rin due to establishing connections and fostering friendships." According to Von Rojohn Rubio ang VP for Internal affairs.
Ayon naman kay James Wilbert Froilan ang VP for Multimedia "sa Leadership marami, sa pag organized ng papers and all. Ang laking tulong kasi collaborative yung learnings from one to another. Walang lamangan. Then sa Friendship naman mas lalong na strengthen kasi same vibe, determination, ipinaglalaban at same path kung ano ang goal."
From Macel Naomi Negrido the National Executuve President 'I learned a lot from Katha't Laya Pilipinas. KL became a platform for me to boost my leadership and collaborative skills and has given me a chance to lead the youth on a national level. In terms of friendship, KL's enviornment is healthy for both its leaders and members. We share ideas and exchange healthy discourses. We can talk about anything, even about personal life. It does not limit us in expressing our opinions and sentiments. And I hope it'll stay that way."
And last according to Princess Romo the VP for Education and Research "I've been in many orgs or clubs and I've heard of the line "we are family" many times, but tell you what, KL was the one that really showed me that. In here, I see people treat each other with care and respect, with kindness and understanding, with love, warmth, and compassion. People here showed me how to uplift your own self without stepping on other people, and pulling others up instead. In terms of leadership, through the compassionate and considerate way our leaders are handling us, I learned and developed competence that uplifts other instead of wearying other people out; excellence and leadership that bring out the best in each one of us."
Sabi nga nila "It is great to be back serving an organization with a heart"

Marcos Promises to Promote 'Free Media Environment'
Tumblr media
As it marks the 30th World Press Freedom Day, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) on Thursday reaffirmed the government's commitment to promoting a free media environment where journalists can work safely without fear of reprisals. In a statement, the PCO acknowledged that journalists and media organizations face threats, intimidation, harassment, violence and other challenges in fulfilling their essential role to provide the public with relevant information. The Presidential Communications Office said: "On this World Press Freedom Day, the Presidential Communications Office recognizes the vital role of a free and independent press in fostering democracy, promoting transparency, and upholding the principles of human rights." "We honor the brave journalists who risk their lives every day to bring us the news and the stories that shape our world."   The Presidential Communications Office condemned all attacks on press freedom and called for the protection of journalists and media workers worldwide. They then said: "We believe that a vibrant and independent press is crucial for a healthy democracy, and we will continue to work towards ensuring the freedom of the press is protected and respected in our country,"   Last week at the 50th anniversary of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP), President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. vowed to continue working “hand-in-hand” with the media to strengthen press freedom, assuring media practitioners of the state’s continued commitment to protecting them and their rights in the practice of their profession. He also committed to “work hard” to “climb our way up” in the global press freedom rankings. In his speech, the President cited the media’s “instrumental role” in informing the citizenry, shaping public opinion, and “even triggering social mobilization and change.” The chief executive then urged the press to “lead and foster public discussion, truth and credibility, the rule of law, especially in the practice of broadcasting, news reporting and information-dissemination.”   Marcos also credited KBP for fully establishing itself as an “institution of national significance” and for being an “efficient instrument of public service in Philippine society.”   Sources: THX News & Philippine News Agency.
