(130. “If this is what love is, then I don’t want it.”)
Gosalyn cried into her pillow as she heard the soft knock on the door. Fenton slowly came in and sat on the end of the bed.
"How are we doing?" he asked softly.
She sniffed. "I just want it to go away. All of it."
Fenton nodded. "Yeah. I'm sure."
Gosalyn sat up, wiping her eyes.
"You're not gonna tell me you 'understand' or that I'll 'move on' or whatever," she said.
"Nah, you chewed your mom and Drake out pretty good for that strategy," Fenton said. "No, I... I think I'm not gonna get this one. I can't figure out a way that this doesn't suck."
She blinked. "It sucks so much."
"But Drake is gonna go through this too," Fenton said. "And your mother lost your father. They're telling you this because... because they want to believe that they can move on. And I don't know if they will, I don't know if you will. But we're not saying this stuff because we want you to stop feeling what you're feeling. We're just trying to help you through the hurt."
Gosalyn shook her head. "If this is what love is, then I don't want it."
"Yeah, you do," Fenton said. "It only hurts this much because you really, really do."
She teared up again and collapsed into Fenton's side, crying again. He put his arm around her and held her tight.
"Acuéstate, niña azul," he sung softly. "Tus sueños son como cuadros. Estaré aquí, no tengas miedo. Sueña hasta la mañana..."
He repeated the song until she fell asleep.
