2020 Creator Tag Meme

rules: it’s time to love yourselves! choose your 5 (or so) favorite works you created in the past year (fics, art, edits, etc.) and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you brought into the world in 2020. tag as many writers/artists/etc. as you want (fan or original) so we can spread the love and link each other to awesome works!

my answers: i’ve somehow written almost 100K since joining the schitt’s creek fandom in september 2020 (92K, to be exact), but here are my 5 favorites!

1) bought matching diamonds for six of my bitches (G, Alexis/Twyla, 3.4K) this came to me in a fever pitch, because of course alexis would buy matching diamonds for six of her bitches, and of course she would buy her own engagement ring, and of course twyla would have no choice but to go along with her girlfriend’s crazy schemes. this was so much fun to write, and it’s my favorite thing i’ve written all year.

2) I’ve Only Ever Wanted Fire (M, Alexis/Twyla, 26K) my magical realism bebe, featuring witchy witch alexis and medium, exorcist, and house flipper twyla! i put in a ton of work into this because i unknowingly picked up the prompt of someone who would become a dear friend, so once i made the connection i wanted it to be the best possible thing – and writing it led me to deepen a friendship with someone i’d just met. i tried to actually write prose for this one and plotted it out to detail, and even though it doesn’t get a lot of attention due to its niche and its length, i’m really proud of this one.

3) i’m your moonlight, you’re my star (M, Alexis/Twyla, 14.7K) “wouldn’t it be cute if we did some cute holiday drabbles?” we said to each other, but then we realized just how many feelings would be at play in a post-canon new relationship for alexis & twyla. i loved exploring these characters, how they’d fare at a long distance relationship, and the ghost of alexis’ last long distance relationship, and setting all of that among hanukkah, christmas, and new year’s was a lot of fun. i really enjoyed writing this one, and it made the season special in a way that was hard to come by in 2020.

4) you and i and nobody else (E, Alexis/Twyla, 28.4K – WIP) “lol, what if alexis and twyla met on mutt’s season of the bachelor?” i said, and we thought it was a clever joke, and then.... we started writing it. this is another thing that seemed light-hearted at first, but it’s evolving to contain role-reversals between the two ladies, insecurities, a queer coming out journey, multi-media, flashbacks/flash-forwards, and, yknow. a ton of yearning. but it’s also, hopefully, fun to read (since it’s still based on the bachelor!) i’m really proud of this one and how it’s shaping up so far. i’m gonna have a ton of post-fic sadness when this one’s done.

5) everybody digs a swinging cat (G, Ted/Alexis, 3.8K) apparently my brand is fun, cracky fics? i’m not mad about it. ted and alexis get a cat named boop, and alexis grows to love it over the course of a 5+1. this was a lot of fun to write, and now i want boop to be in everything. this is also, in my mind, the eventual sequel to my first schitt’s creek fic ever, Fighting Dragons With You, so i’m glad to think about those versions of ted and alexis getting their happy ending here.
