the one thing I'll always love about mormon masculinity is that we will not be having any of that "haha I hate my wife" shit. the male general authorities set the example every single conference of saying "I love my wife, she's the best person I know, I'm the most lucky man who ever lived, every time we disagree I'm usually wrong because she's wiser and I've learned so much from her," etc. oaks was like "I'm releasing these men. give them and their wives a vote of thanks." the message to every man is to celebrate and appreciate the women he knows, not put them down.

Elder Kearon’s talk really summarizes why I’m still a believer, because our theology is so forgiving, so open, so universalist, so tender. The God of our theology is constantly giving us chances to come back, to come to Him, to learn, to improve. He doesn’t turn anyone away. He wants us back so much that he even has plans in place for us to grow and learn and join the right path after we die! We get so many chances to mess up and pick ourselves up and try again! It’s such a hopeful, welcoming message.

UNHINGED GENERAL CONFERENCE PREDICTIONS
The reason we bought the Kirtland Temple was because it can, with any 4 other temples, become a giant fighting robot (Kirtland forms the head, obviously)
The Community of Christ didn't need it anymore because their Spiral temple is now ready to launch as a fully operational space lazer.
We're gonna start doing Monks now. Kung Fu Monks, Illuminated Manuscripts Monks, Singing Monks, the whole thing.
We're also doing Nuns now, but only lesbian cowboy nuns. Gotta ease into that.
The resurrection starts halfway through the Saturday evening session, but it starts with J. Golden Kimball who hops up to the podium and just stars cussing people out.

Bro why does mormons talking about “marriage between a man and a woman” and “gender is ordained of god” and “god never changes his policies” hurt more than someone calling me slurs on a discord server

The kayak story "He didn't say to me, you wouldn't be in this situation if you were more physically fit." Reminds me of those who react to a member needing help with remarks like "are you praying enough?" "Are you watching porn?" "What do you need to repent for?"
Passing misinformed judgment and assuming that the other person is struggling because they're not doing enough, or have done something wrong to deserve it.
Hopefully those who needed to hear it have taken that message to heart.

Oaks: some people discard the rules of society but for millenia we have seen that to be in a society we must follow rules (paraphrasing I don’t remember what he said)
Me: is he trying to talk about queer people or anarchists?
My boyfriend: I thought he meant HOAs

oh this is so beautiful. "some people feel happiest without religion, and I respect these feelings. God has filled this earth with delightful things so that all his children may have as much happiness as possible. BUT there could be something more by following Jesus Christ. try it out" it's so lovely and respectful I love him

okay, but I love this subtle callout. People are watching the way we act, and the world WILL notice if actions don’t line up with our professed standards. I love that he couched it as an embarrassment to the church broadly when members act in hypocrisy. I often feel like I’m apologizing for the visible church members who act in hatred, as if I’m saying “I’m not affiliated with them!” even though they claim the same religious label as me.

“Good members who for some reason have found a way away from the church” is probably the most respectful way I’ve ever heard that worded in a conference talk.
People who leave the church are good people. They have reasons for leaving the church. Please be kind to them.
