I MET A REDACTED FAN IRL?!?!

and like this is someone who is my “sibling” in a club so it was basically fate.

literally all started by our club fam hanging out after eating together and we were saying hot takes and she was like “bf asmr is good”

nobody else really agreed (we’re all very non judgmental so it was good) but i was like “…YUP”

#history is awesome #presidential talk #part of the reason i'm pausing the podcast to dig further into lincoln #is because i intended to look deeper into lincoln after this trip and never did #it's fun going back through the pictures with more context #though it would have been even more fun to have that context when i was there #the main reason i included that banner picture is because i got a nice surprise #when i saw hannibal hamlin's name and realized 'oh now i know that guy!'#it's fun to learn about history of a place you've actually been to #nice to be able picture lincoln's house and the state legislature whenever they mention them #though it is a struggle to roll back my imagination and remember the city doesn't look like the one i saw #pretty sure there was no museum across the street from lincoln's house #lincoln didn't have car traffic outside his office #lincoln probably did not go to the krispy kreme #which makes me very sad because that was one of the most profound culinary experiences of my life #(new item for the time travel bucket list: take lincoln to the krispy kreme)#there are other cool and useful pictures i wanted to show but unfortunately i had to avoid the ones with people in them #there's a great shot of the front of lincoln's office but my sister is standing right in front of it #and most of the useful lincoln's house photos have other tourists there #suddenly i'm worried that i wasn't supposed to take pictures inside the lincoln museum #if any angry museum workers see this i'm sorry #i only had an hour which meant we were sprinting through that place and i needed to be able to look closer later

My favorite thing about him - he's Nice, sort of, when it benefits him, but he's definitely not A Good Person. he's just like me in that he's got that baby-faced Charm combined with a polite disposition that enamors people to him, but he's ruthless. he's just sweet about it. only this bitch can give up almost everything in his life in pursuit of pure selfishness and then struggle to accept that there's consequences ♥

My least favorite thing about him - mans has got to stop Leaving For Good For Realsies This Time at least once a season (twice in season two!!), he's gonna be the boy who cried Gone For Ever ('whale eyes at the coming finale but pretending i don't see it' voice)

so, my first dnd experience yesterday! woohoo!

it was really so fun, both my friend and i have always wanted to play a dnd game but none of us had experience, but thankfully one of her friends has played a lot and dm'd too (tho i think this was his first time not online? he did so good!) so he ended up setting up a cool one-shot for us, and invited another friend of his who also has a lot of experience.

they were so kind to help us out throughout the whole thing. dm friend let us create our characters during the week, then brought us half-written character sheets (which was SO helpful cause a lot of that would have been incomprehensible for us at first), taught us what everything meant and how it worked, helped us fill out the rest of our things, and obviously explained how a game usually runs. having another experienced player with us was also super helpful because at first we were really kind of shy and not sure of how to act and such, but with him with us we quickly got into it!

but yeah, it was so fun! my character was a half-elf bard and my friend's was an elf rogue, and i loved that the dm was like 'ok you two want to go rescue the mayor's daughter from the evil vampire, but the mayor doesn't want you to go alone so here's a dragonbord paladin to join you in your quest' lmao we got a chaperone.

but yeah, it was super chaotic and fun, and we got to fight the vampire's lackey because the paladin failed a spell to command him so he just went 'well i punch him in the face then', which was so fucking funny (this is the battle where i was like 'i wanna use hideous laughter' and the guys were like 'ok you have to tell a joke to him' and i was like BET so i panicked for some seconds then told the worst joke and somehow the dice were on my side cause it WORKED).

i also made a cat friend at some point (player guy was like 'congrats on your first dnd milestone: making an animal friend'), we solved a puzzle (SHOCKER tbh, but we're escape room experts after all), and of course my favorite part was when i got to disguise myself as the evil vampire to go get info from the lackey, but the dm was like 'the spell doesn't change your voice, though', so i got to impersonate an evil villain AND do a voice, which got everyone laughing, so i consider that an epic win.

yeah it was super fun, i def wanna do it again another time!
