It’s certainly a big year for Eiichiro Oda and the One Piece Fandom, recently we had a chance to get a look at the Big Mom Pirates. And now, it has been announced that Crunchyroll and Toei Animation announced plans to distribute the film outside of Japan, with both subtitled and dubbed versions to screen in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand this fall. One Piece will take…

(person whose tags you reblogged on that ask about the anime here lol) I think what a lot of Bones defenders don't seem to realize is that this isn't just a case of us whining because we don't get what we want, like us complaining about like "they didn't draw this panel Exactly How It is In The Manga, how dare they!!!", we're not being nitpicking for the sake of nitpicking; these kinds of supposedly minor complaints probably wouldn't bother me in another show, because no adaptation is perfect and there will always be differences in how the panels are adapted, but in specifically BSD it bothers me because of the bigger picture, which is the fact that all of these tiny blunders are a direct result of them not understanding what kind of series BSD is and the tone and feelings each scene in the manga is meant to convey -- they see it as a shounen and adapt it as such, like you said. It's not about these moments in of themselves that are the problem, but because there's SO MANY of them, and they all add up, and they speak to the aforementioned much larger problem. I also just think that's kind of ignorant to just act like a season(s) with a downgrade in art quality, so many reused frames and animations, and disturbingly long static frames sometimes is in any way acceptable as a finished product??? This isn't about me and what I want, this is about the fact that they CLEARLY suffered to get this out and that is NOT OKAY. THERE ARE SO MANY GLARING PRODUCTION ISSUES (have been since season 3) AND THAT IS NOT OKAY. Not for the people who were forced to work on it, not for BSD as a story, and not for Asagiri and Harukawa! And not for the fans either, of course, but I emphasize the first three the most. It's just pure laziness and greed on the part of the Bones higher-ups who wanted it to be like this, and that will never be acceptable, for anyone. The quality of the anime has been significantly better the last few episodes (literally the instant Akutagawa kicked the bucket...) — by which I mean, they're doing the bare minimum for an adaptation, which is better than they usually do! — but I sure couldn't tell you why...! It's left me ecstatic, happy, and excited to watch lately, which is such a relief from constant sadness, outrage, and feeling insulted, but that still doesn't change the fact that it should have been this good THIS WHOLE TIME, and that there's absolutely NO REASON other episodes had to be sacrificed for the better ones: they should have been given enough time to do all of it justice (again, as much justice as Bones can ever do with BSD lol, but still. Season 2 is still so dear to me for a reason, and it's not just because of the nostalgia I have from watching it in 2016). Sorry for rambling more about this in your inbox asldjgflds, but tl;dr I just feel like our complaining comes across as bitching about scenes not being a perfect 1-to-1 panel recreation to a lot of people, when it's so much more than that — it's about BSD as a whole not getting the treatment it really, truly deserves, and how heartbreaking that is to see. It is heartbreaking to me to see how much Asagiri apparently loves the anime, from what he said at Anime Expo, when his story deserves so, so much better than he seemingly is even aware of. And I will always give Bones due credit when they've earned it, like I have the last few weeks, so I'm not even always constantly ragging on them, but even that praise comes with the caveat of "there's no explanation for why the quality is suddenly better now, or why it's so inconsistent in general, and I shouldn't even have to praise it so much, because this level of quality should be a given."
Yeah I agree that Bones has repeatedly demostred a very faulty understanding of the manga tone and even of the themes it carries on– even though there's also a chance that the shift in tone was intentional. They saw that undemanding shonen sold better than seinen (which may now seem easy to disprove, but the same probably wasn't as evident back in 2015 when the bsd anime was announced), so they made the marketing choice to declinate bsd so that it could cater to a shonen audience too, and stuck with that decision. That would make sense although in the end, as you said, it resulted in a series that feels deeply disconnected in tone and themes to its original, all while the narrated events stay the same.
I do wholeheartedly agree that if you need so many reused frames and to resort to static frames that drag on for several dozens of seconds, then your season simply isn't ready for release. C'mon, seriously, an original op and ending are the bare MINIMUM. The only reason why they didn't postpone the season release is greed. Not to mention (very much needed to mention), it's harmful for the animators twice: on one hand, because it necessarily puts them under a lot of stress and overworking conditions in order to churn out an entire season in such a short timespan; but I also feel like we shouldn't overlook the other aspect that is just... How extremely saddening and disheartening it is to not be able to dedicate the time you'd want to your art product, and seeing it published in a way that looks rushed and unfinished. I think it's important to acknowledge the frustration animators are likely to experience when that happens, especially because most times it's people who love their job of artist and of course work hard so that the result is the best it can be. But yeah the thing is: it's important - no matter how unpleasant - to say, it's not okay, because otherwise a low quality product is only going to become the norm.
I agree there was a noticeable quality improvement in the last three episodes (4-6), and I may be wrong, but I think it's reasonable to believe it's because the first three episodes had to be prepared in advance in order to be ready for the pre-screening that took place on the 8th of July in Japan. That may explain why the later episodes have been so much better compared to the first three: they simply had more time to work on them, and it's possible they're keeping working on the episodes even as they're airing. But I do agree... It's very saddening to see. Like of course, I agree, I *AM* happy the last episodes have been good (the last one was especially enjoyable!), but there really is that big ache given by thinking about what the Fukuchi vs. sskk fight could have been if only it was given the time and care it deserved. Sigh. It was just a very unfortunate coincidence for everyone, because, bias aside, it was really a pivotal moment in the whole manga... I mean. C'mon. Atsushi is the protagonist, but is yet again not treated as one because of, once again, marketing choices. It's a bit saddening. With season 4, I was dreading for when the season would have ended; with season 5 I regretfully must admit that I found myself again and again just hoping it would end already. Because even now that the animation has improved significantly, I can't stop thinking of what episode three should have been - what it had the right to be, as no less important than any other episode -, and I feel like my enjoyment of the season is just ruined.
One last note, and I know it's not what you meant when referring to panel-by-panel adaptations, and feel free to consider this my own pet peeve, but. Studios should be able to notice when they're working with the most iconic panel of the entire manga and should treat it accordingly. I'm cool and chill but what they did to the chapter 88 Akutagawa panel is unforgivable and I will resent them forever because of it.

Today was the first day of the French Con "Japan Party". I had never been before but tbh it reminded me of Japan Expo back when it was still good.
Here's my haul for today part 2 (I'll try to link to their social medias when I can, their cards are in the pictures if there was one). In the order of them coming out of my bag u.u
Day one: Part 1 / Part 2
Day two: Part 1 / part 2

Elonan Comics and Yamraj comics take old heroes that fell into the public domain (as well as characters that were very much proto super heroes) and try to follow up on these. They try to portray diversity notably through working with people who come from the countries of those heroes (Brazil, Australia, Switzerland) and try to diversify their content (including handicaps).
There are ebooks available in English if you want to try them, I haven't read them yet but I really enjoyed talking with the writers and artists present!
Here are their socials: elonan comics.blogspot.com and

This is a Shonen type of comic book called The Last Kamit but while "Comics" are a window on American culture, Mangas and webtoon are windows on east Asian cultures (specifically Japan and Korean ones), their goal is to develop understanding of various African cultures with "the spirit of a Manga but the comic book format". In this story we follow a Kamit who will have to go on adventures throughout the whole continent for his classic Shonen comic of age journey.
The art is beautiful, I'm not far into it yet, they haven't mastered the mise en scène yet but it's still good and works fairly well (despite some confusion here and there).
Very good for a first book and I'm curious on how they'll go about it. So far we've had at least Egyptian references so my former Egyptology student self is just happy to see it XD.
Here's their website : thelastkamit.com

Coven Tales is an association of Writers and artists whose art ranges from webtoon to Manga to creatures design. I also got my ticket thanks to their giveaway so shout out to them u.u. I decided not to buy much today because I know I'm gonna buy more after and long term anyway (I've already got Mémoires d'un Orgue plus it's Spanish translation : Memorias de un Órgano which I still highly recommend if you can get it at lartdelafugue.org or herissondecheminee.com).
I did buy their art book because I saw it at a friend's and it's a great intro to all the artists. The picture I bought is from Oyanxa.

Day 23: Back At Class, They Never Taught A Thing
@arcvmonth
This feels weird and will probably never happen again but whatever.
Headcanon/Fabrication dump time because I’m procrastinating on Sleep. Blame Kubera.
Now you hear headcanon/fabrications and I bet that you think “ooooh character headcanons, right?” Wrong! These are logistical headcanons! And now I’ve lost you! (There are character headcanons woven in but this is mostly just boring).
...Ok you can all have (1) free character headcanon each.
Yuri is not inherently obsessed with gardening. He actually started because he assumed, given The Professor named him ‘Yuri’, it was expected of him. Nowadays, he uses gardening to vent.
Serena is a closet fan of Shonen. Her taste is, unfortunately, not very discerning. She’s heard of Sailor Moon, but cannot watch without wanting to strangle Usagi.
Since rations normally don’t include candy, Sora had to win a 32 child battle royale to take his candy into Xyz. The other students find the noises he makes insufferable.
Dennis...I got nothing lol.
Anywa, back to logistics, this is all Real in Dramaturgy. To the degree that it may as well be a Dramaturgy expos dump. There’s even some small spoilers in strikethrough! But most of it isn’t spoilery.
Political Status.
Academia is an Independent City State encompassing both Port City on the mainland and the island of Academia. (Synchro’s City is also a City State, while Heartland and Maiami are normal cities). Academia has full sovereignty, but is still beholden to international law.
Appearance.
The Volcano has been repurposed for geothermal energy.
Unlike Duel Academy, Academia has 9 dorms. 3 Obelisk Blue dorms, 3 Slifer Red dorms, and 3 Ra Yellow dorms. This is because of Academia’s three tracks: the Leadership Track, Duellist Track, and Disciplinary Track.
Tracks.
The Leadership Track is for training commanding officers. Students in the leadership track are ranked based on team survival rate, grades, anonymous review, and military achievement. Those in the Leadership Track are often promoted out of the Duellist Track, but not all leaders are duellists. Edo is ranked Obelisk in both Leadership and Duelling. Meanwhile, both Sora and Yuri were blacklisted from the leadership track, Sora for having poor emotional control and Yuri for having an antisocial personality.
Those who rank highly in the Leadership Track (colonel and above) can travel through the dimensions without restriction. However, they do not have their own Archetypes.
In the Duellist Track, students are ranked based on grades, carding rate, victory rate and physical ability. The duelling track is also mandatory, so even leaders and disciplinary officers will have a duelling rank.
Obviously, not all good duellists are good leaders and not all good leaders are good duellists, but since promotions often entail leadership responsibilities, promoting based on pure strength could be disastrous. On the other hand, Academia had to reward strength, if not, their students wouldn’t apply themselves. Their solution was to rank duelling separately.
The highest rank of duellist is ‘Special Agent’, which is Yuri, Dennis and Sora’s rank. Uniquely, while every duellist ranked below Special Agent must use the standardised Ancient Gear deck, Special Agents may develop, request and print their own Archetypes.
Many Academia classes focus on Ancient Gear decks. Since these classes are useless for Special Agents, they can be dropped.
The Disciplinary Track trains students to investigate, apprehend and reeducate deserters, traitors, and troublemakers. Members of the Disciplinary Team are handpicked by The Professor. As a result, among Academia students, becoming a disciplinary officer is considered tantamount to earning The Professor’s trust and respect. Sora’s dream is to become a disciplinary officer. Ryo is the top ranker in this track.
Dennis is a genius who ranked high in all 3 tracks. Hypercompetent. Sora and Yuri are only ranked highly in Duellist. Serena would be a Special Agent as well, but she’s not ranked.
Expulsion.
Academia students who underperform have two fates. If they’re orphans or factory children, they can be confined, disciplined or carded. If they have family, however, Academia will instead expel them. Expelled children are considered stupid and challenged.
Biopolitics.
Wars take bodies, so how does Academia get them?
Firstly, all children in Port City are legally required to attend Academia, so most duel soldiers are essentially conscripted. Only a small percentage of students are international students whose parents just don’t care.
Yuri wasn’t known by Port City conscripts, so he can’t be from there. He also arrived by boat, so he isn’t an Academia native. Thus, Yuri is rumoured to actually be an international student. No one has asked.
This begs another question! How does (1) city have enough bodies to take on All of Xyz!?
Aggressive pronatalism. I’m so sorry.
Basically, give one child to Academia, and they’ll offer low interest loans. Offer two and they’ll give you free healthcare. Offer three and they’ll give you lifetime employment. Offer 4 and you get a house. Et cetera.
Academia will take any ‘child’ between 2-16, but the vast majority of students are 7 or 13. This is because their parents want to, like, raise them. Orphanages, however, send the children at 6 per Academia policy (Academia wants them potty trained and literate). Serena is an orphan.
Finally, some parents view their children primarily as bargaining chips. Consequently, they have children purely for the sake of handing them off. Although they’re regarded as abhorrent, Academia nonetheless rewards their behaviour. They make bodies, after all, and due to their parent’s open inhumanity, their children are often highly loyal to Academia. To such rejected children, there are only two options: 1.live in Academia or 2.go back to the parents who threw them away. It’s easy to see which option they’ll pick. For one, the children literally only know Academia. For another, they’re highly ranked and respected due to their early start.
Economics
Third question! How do they fund this insane pronatalism?
In Academia, only 80% of students are deployed in Xyz. 20% are deployed in Fusion, where they work as independent mercenaries for other nations. Academia maintains a stranglehold on Real Solid Vision and, as the OG dimension proved, Real Solid Vision is canonically better than tanks and fighter jets. As a result, competition for Academia’s services is fierce and lucrative.
Timeline
Final question, how did the The Professor set this up in 3 years? The answer: In Dramaturgy, he didn’t.
The Professor has been visiting Fusion for 15 years, but only left permanently 3 years ago. At first, he’d only visit for a few days, then a few weeks, then a few months. To be frank, Reiji expected his disappearance. Still, he wanted to believe he was wrong.
“But Team Frightfur, the universe is canonically only 14 years old!”
Yeah, that’s another thing I decided to ignore. In Dramaturgy, all the dimensions   have complete histories. The reason Leo, the Yuboys, and the Bracelet Girls were all born at this specific juncture is because the date coincides with Zarc and Ray’s births in the OG dimension.

My bad.
And that's the end of the first GSCFanWeek!
Day 1, Collection Showcase:
I separated templates by Nendoroid, Figma,Pop Up Parade, and Swacchao. Still a few to unbox. Some back row Nendos got hidden in a couple double layer display boxes. I should make more figure risers.
Day 2, The One That Got Away:
Some of these got away because I got into a series late, they weren't being sold thru GSC US, I took too long to decide, or I just needed to skip to save my budget. But now these haunt me! I actually have a MUCH LONGER list of figures I wish I could have gotten or had to let get away. These are just a few.
Day 3, The One That Started It All:
Figma Miyuki Takara was my first high-end figure. Before her, I only bought gachapon and Play Arts. But I was wandering around Comic Con, and as often happens at non-anime cons, there wasn't much I was interested in buying and I felt kind of bad for not buying loot. But I ran into a booth selling Lucky Star Figma. So I tried buying high-end figures for the first time. (I don't count Play Arts, because they're not like the $45+ Play Arts Kai line. I got a lot of my Play Arts around $20.) Then I got into Sengoku Basara and found they had Nendoroids. I LOVE "tough shonen characters" being turned into cute chibi!🤣💖I originally only wanted Sanada Yukimura but the store also had Date Masamune. So I got them both at the same time💙❤️
Day 4, GSCfiguresIRL:
I always wanted to share this pic of the time I took my Nendoroid Date Masamune to Los Angeles Tanabata, and there was a kazari from Sendai with Date Masamune on it! Also I just love sharing my Tanabata nendography🎋💖I don't often get to share it on GSC contests or features, because I often mix parts/accessories, especially for Tanabata when I take Nendoroids off of their usual bodies to put them into the Nendoroid More Yukata set. These tanabata photos are from multiple years of LA Tanabata, spanning from 2016-2019.
Day 5, Good Smile Spirit Day:
Cheers! Here's to more figures from Good Smile Company!🎊🎊🎊 Originally, I wasn't sure what concept to use for a photo of "your figures celebrating GSC and another year of exciting figures". But I thought Miku is the closest Nendoroid I have to a mascot for GSC. So I used my latest Miku. And of course, I wanted to use the GSC acrylic standee that they gave me for being one of the winner of the figure photo contest to get our pics exhibited in GSC's Anime Expo booth. Honestly, when I saw that acrylic standee of their logo on an event's menu, it was one of the things I reeeeeeeeeeeally wanted, enough to make me feel bad I was still quarantining and not attending conventions. So I was so very happy when they just included it in the package of my photo, printed on the canvas that they displayed at their Anime Expo booth. I was so happy! So this photo is just a big party, a toast to Good Smile figures.
Post GSCFanWeek:
I'm sorry that I wasn't able to post something on each day of this past week's events. But real life and other commitments took priority. I know that decreased the exposure that my photos would get, so I do feel kind of bad for spending as much time/effort on them as I did. But the new photoshoots I did this past week, I think came out well. And I love answering these type of collecting questions, making me nostalgic about my collecting journey, and giving me an opportunity to record some memories. <3
