Fluorite is the mineral form of calcium fluoride, CaF2. Fluorite is used in the glass for telescopes and microscopes as it reduces chromatic aberration. It's also a source of Fluorine which has many varied uses, but in Senku's case he may be using it for polymers or surfactants.

I'm wondering if the hole-punched sections of this film (does the KoS have film now?) are a code… Maybe I'm thinking too hard haha

Thank you for the answer! Yeah at the moment I'm much more comfortable writing in third person and the fact that it fits the kind of story that I want to tell is a huge bonus. But I do want to challenge myself to write more first person stories, and I've been rereading Stephen King novels to kind of dissect how he writes that way.

I'm sorry to further impose but can you elaborate a bit more on the differences between voice and perspective using The Case Files of Jeweler Richard as an example? That's the book that I know we both have on hand.

Well, perspective is just the fact that Seigi's telling the story from first person, in his own head, his own thoughts, without a single interruption for other's observations or thoughts.

Voice is the way Seigi talks. I just finished re-reading volume three in English, and it has a first-person chapter at the very end, Fluorite, which is also first person, but from an entirely different narrator. And she speaks different, she describes Richard differently than Seigi ever has, she thinks differently about things, uses different words...that kind of thing.

In Part Two, Richard has a few first-person prologues himself. The perspective is things like the way we finally get to see how he felt about meeting Seigi. Voice is the way he describes meeting Seigi, in similar ways comparing Seigi to a gemstone as Seigi has him, and yet very differently than Seigi describes Richard as a gemstone.

Voice is the way Seigi recognizes Saul and Richard know each other because they have incredibly similar speech patterns. They have the same accent and emphasis, they put words in a similar order, they choose similar words to describe things. Voice is the reason Seigi uses "ore" and Richard uses "watashi" and Seigi is seen as casual and straightforward and Richard as mild-mannered and polite, just from their words. Voice is the way Richard sends ten text messages in a row,

Folktale Week Day 4: Rebel

This comes from the English folktale, Three Valiant Lads. Set in the Peak District in Derbyshire, it's a clever origin story for the Blue John mines. When their village is under threat from a huge dragon, three lads rally the townsfolk to rebel against the dragon and chase it away. Once it retreated underground, it turned into the rare Blue John fluorite. Unusually, this particular fluorite formed with bands of purple and blueish purple and the mined crystals been made into striking jewelry, goblets, vases, etc.

You equip your enchanted dice set, the fabled FLUORITE OCTET. It consists of eight D8, plundered from a ghost ship during a particularly challenging campaign. In ancient times such weapons were employed by roving bands of GAMBLIGNANTS, deadly marauders with a passion for chance. They all died off though. Took too many crazy risks. Rolling the dice will execute a wide range of highly unpredictable attacks. Very high rolls can be devastating to even the most powerful opponents. Of course with the luck you've had lately, you couldn't make a good roll to save your life. Got to do something about this awful luck. Gotta catch a br8k!!!!!!!! When you get worked up about stuff you put 8's in places that don't really make a lot of sense phonetically.

Author commentary: Because Vriska is so special, and is basically my wife, she gets to have a really cool and unique weapon. This set of dice is a genuinely nice and well-designed group of objects, particularly from the POV of an RPG nerd, which is what Vriska is. This must have been a hell of a find for her in that ghost ship. 8 dice, with 8 sides each. 8^8 makes for almost 17 million possible rolls. 8 obviously is Vriska's magic number, but 8-8 pairs have some ominous significance. In this story the 8-ball has grim associations with the destruction of a universe (see: Snowman). Two 8s is therefore associated with the destruction of two universes, which is a cosmically synchronous event with the summoning of Lord English. English is often shown with his pool ball eyes frozen in the grim 8-8 state, and this is in fact the state they lock to when confronted with Vriska moments before his presumable defeat. In that sense, it's a shorthand for "game over." 88 is also associated with Hitler. The bad news for this number just keeps piling up. Also I have the same initials as Hitler. Okay, I'm getting a signal in this earpiece from my producer to stop talking about Hitler. But you get the idea. 8 is a cursed number, and double 8 is octuply bad.
