I am quite talented at organizing things. I think this talent might be why I am so good at Tetris. (Being good at Tetris is the one thing I will confidently brag about. I refuse to be humble about my Tetris skills.) I just intuitively know how to arrange things efficiently in 3D space.

The irony is that I hate the act of organizing and I suck at maintaining organization. So you'd never know I had this skill unless you happened upon my work directly after I had organized. But if you need to fit a hundred items in a tiny freezer while still being able to access them, I'm your guy. I just have this weird ability to make random objects fit together like puzzle pieces.

I was reminded of this skill while I was at Sam's yesterday. I have been pushing myself to go out of my comfort zone and I think I have nearly mastered the self-checkout. While I was waiting in line, I quickly arranged all of my items so the barcodes were exposed and I could easily zap them and be on my way. I hit all of them in rapid succession, getting a confirming beep with each scan, and then I looked over at the screen and it had only processed two things by the time I was done. It was all, "Jesus dude, I'm a lowest-bidder piece of tech, not a quantum computer. Let's see... green peppers?"

Sam's has a person double-check your cart before you exit the store. They scan your receipt and then hit the barcodes of your items. When she went to scan my stuff she exclaimed, "Wow, you made that so easy for me! How did you do that?"

In case you missed it : there’s apps you can download to help you boycott “israel”

If you’re trying to be more efficient in your boycotting of “israel” you can download an app called “No Thanks” in the USA that allows you to directly scan barcodes at stores and it then tells you if the company supports “israel”.

If you’re in Canada and can’t download “No Thanks” there is another app called “Belzamesh” created by Mohmoud Fareed that functions in the same way. It also tells you how exactly the company is associated with “israel”, provides alternative brands that you can support, and gives you information on how you can get involved and help the Palestinian cause.

i recommend the boycat app and the no! thanks app for boycotting brands! i usually scan barcodes with both of the apps just to be sure especially if one says it doesn't have information on the product. you can also search the brand with the search functions. make sure when doing so that you know what the parent company for the brand is in case it's not under the name of the product.

while the lists of brands can be helpful i find these two resources so much more helpful for making sure you can boycott things more efficiently, because the lists that are spread around can be very overwhelming, hard to follow, inconsistent, etc

Pt. 1

You heard rumours about HIS ship. Apparently, the corridors were lined with gold. Apparently, incense was pumped through the air recirc system constantly, causing feelings of elation and joy. Apparently, everyone on HIS ship was beautiful, ugliness was not tolerated.

Fumiko was immediately confused when her shuttle arrived on the main hangar deck. It looked like any other hanger deck she’d ever seen, scuffed bare metal, spaces so vast that they’d never feel anything but cold and empty. Troops, both human and transhuman, moved through the hanger in squads, their uniforms crisp and clean, but nothing unusual about that.

Disembarking the shuttle, Fumiko was directed with curt efficiency to processing, along with all of the staff being transferred from other ships of the fleet. Through hours checking and cross checking, barcode scans and equipment searches, Fumiko endured with calm patience.

“Ah ma’am, we’ve been told to expect you,” said the good-looking guard checking transfer documents, “Lord Fulgrim has been looking forward to meeting you.”

Fumiko was slightly taken aback. While this was Fulgrim’s flagship, The Pride of the Emperor, she had never even considered seeing the primarch, let alone having his know her name.

“Orders have been received that Lord Fulgrim has asked to see you immediately”

Her stomach dropped. She’d never seen a primarch in the flesh, only the propaganda images that were circulated through all the crusade fleets. Even those were intimidating. Noble Guilliman, his countenance a stern but caring one, radiating command and control. Pale Corax with his contrasting raven hair, a small humble smile conveying an intimate confidence with the viewer. The onyx skinned Vulkan with the beaming grin, like a friendly big brother. But all of them paled into insignificance next to the picts of Fulgrim. The Phoenician, Most Perfect of his brothers. The dynamism of his character evident even in still images, his face symmetrical and utterly flawless. Images of Fulgrim showed a transcendent being, one so completely representative of the Emperor’s vision for the future. Not just physically flawless, but his martial prowess was well known. A planner, a statesman, a negotiator. Rumour had it his games of regicide were the only ones of all his brothers that could approach taxing Malcador the Sigilite’s extraordinary mind. Fulgrim could do it all and look effortless in execution.

Why does he want to see me?? She thought, her mind racing. She was NOT perfect, and she knew it. She was flawed, broken. Ugly. Since childhood she had been looked at this way. And if you hear something enough, you start to believe it. Now, she wore a mask, its pure white face covering the burns she’d suffered as a child. The right side of her face and neck had been scalded by hot water. Just an accident, but one that had shaped her life ever since. The mask allowed her to excel, without the stigma of her ugliness showing on the faces of her patrons.

She was led from the embarkation deck to a huge elevator, which raised her slowly from the very bottom of the ship. Deck after deck passed, the attractive guard accompanied her. She knew of course that the ship would be large, one of the largest. But she didn’t quite understand HOW large. Hundreds of decks, hundreds of thousands of souls aboard, all to service HIM. The Pride of the Emperor was legendary, its performance matching that of Horus’ Vengeful Spirit, the savagery of its offensive capability akin to several lesser vessels.

Eventually, the lift came to a halt, and the guard gestured politely for her to alight. He smiled at her as the doors closed, leaving her. The hallway in which she found herself could barely be called such. The space was almost impossibly large, its ceiling lost amongst the shadows above. The deck was plated with black veined white marble, huge sheets of it from bulkhead to bulkhead. The walls themselves were polished metal, covered in fabric drapes of every colour, a rainbow kaleidoscope. Far from looking gaudy, the riot of colour emphasised the effect of being in a huge tent or pavilion. Every few metres, life sized statues of Space Marine Heroes stood on plinths. These Marines weren’t just of the Emperor’s Children as one might expect, but of every Legion. Fulgrim clearly lauded the efforts of his brother’s sons as much as his own, here the First Captain of the Imperial Fists wielded a huge sword, its blade carved from a single piece of obsidian. There, a Knight of the Dark Angels looking resolutely into middle-distance. Another, a World Eater captain looking noble but savage, his head turned to the side and down, as if heeding one of the human crew milling around his base. The artistry in the carving was extraordinary, as if the great stone men could simply step off their plinths and move around.

Waiting for her was a palanquin, its fabric awning pure brilliant white, matching the featureless mask she wore. It was born on the shoulders of six men, not servitors, their nude oiled bodies rippling with muscle, only small loincloths preserving their modesty. Each wore bands of gold on their arms and had kohl around their eyes. Each bowed to her in turn, deeply and with a respect she’d never truly experienced before. Climbing into the palanquin, they lifted her above the other crew members and set off at a steady pace, careful not to rock too much or cause her discomfort. She sat demurely as her training dictated, gloved hands folded in her lap, back straight, aided by the starched obi belt of her kimono. She felt bewildered. She hadn’t ever been treated this way and wasn’t sure how to react. Her heart was still racing from learning Fulgrim wished to meet her, she tried to calm it with deep breathing exercises and was moderately successful, but still flooded with adrenaline.

The route the bearers travelled through the deck took her past a bazaar, where imperial civilians showed artistic wears of all kinds. The most exquisitely dyed silks, pottery and glass wear of unparalleled quality. An artist was hard at work, the oils of his current painting glistening in the light, deep reds and greens and yellows almost luminous.

She stared unashamedly at the beauty around her, the smells of food vendors reminding her that she hadn’t eaten in hours, their culinary constructions looking delicately intricate, the sort of thing a highborn lord of the Imperium would kill for, here they were being consumed by ordinary crew members with relish.

Eventually the bazaar gave way to further heroic statuary, some even human in proportion. Admirals of the fleet, even common soldiers rendered in uncanny detail. These sculptures lead to a set of gold-plated doors, easily twenty metres tall and oddly devoid of ornamentation except for an enormous two-headed eagle, the very symbol of Imperial might. The doors swung open on her approach, silently. It seemed impossible to her that something on such a scale could move without any noise at all. Inside, the bearers placed the palanquin on the deck of what turned out to be another elevator, though smaller than the last, and bowed deeply to her again, before leaving her. They said nothing, but smiled encouragingly as they departed, moving backwards three steps before turning as one and exiting the elevator. It began moving immediately, swift and silently upwards. Stepping out of the palanquin, Fumiko set her shoulders, smoothed the skirts of her kimono, and waited.

Better suited to repetitive environments – obviously, robots and automated systems can’t do everything! If you work in an environment with unpredictable days and tasks, then automated vehicles and software might not work for you. Constantly having to change presets may cause you more hassle.

Expensive repairs – warehouse automation requires a lot of modern and up-to-date technology, which can be very expensive if they break or need repairs.

I would say warehouse automation is a very innovative and effective solution to create a productive working environment. Yes, it can be expensive, but I do believe it will benefit you greatly in the long run! ....So, my day at work on December 29th, 2022

I don't usually post about my day at work unless it is shitty. Well, I just had a shitty day at work. For context, I work in the Stock Room. Like a mini-warehouse for my company. Parts come in different parts of the plant. I hold them in stock until they are ready to be kitted to jobs to further complete assembly and then ship out. I kind of fell into being in charge of almost 600 stock parts worth almost $5.5 million dollars. And that isn't even including the materials, which I am in charge of hundreds of.

Every month, I do end of month inventory. Do a count of everything. I have ways to make the actually counting quick with almost every part having labels with barcodes, allowing me to just scan the part number and than the quantity on the box. The program adds up all of the parts together and tells me which part I am off on. Sometimes it is because I forget to scan a box. Other times, the label wasn't updated and has the wrong quantity on it. But the part that takes the longest is going into the system and figuring out why I scan or count us having 2437 of one part when the system says we have only 1402. Some parts only cost a dollar because it is just adhesive and it is made in-house. Other parts are $200 each because they are LCDs we get from Sharp.

Very often, I am off on a lot of things. I wish I had the time to figure out the discrepancies for each end of month inventory. But because a number of factors, like Hot List jobs, poor time-mangament on my part, my usual duties in the Stock Room, I almost never have time to find the disrepancies or resolve them. It also gets complexed because one of the departments at my company cannot count parts as they are on the production floor. The leads refuse to so in the past. So if it is the case that I have given them more than I should of, I can't tell. So, often, I just said, "Yes, we have 1402 of so and so part. Like the system says we have." And I will just figure it out later.

Well, later has come because this time, it is Year end inventory. We need 100% accurate counts. We are having an outside auditor counts things with us. This one matters. And, I haven't really begin the Year end inventory process. Since I have to ask to be able to come in on Saturday and the weekend, that is what I did.... I was denied I can't come in on Monday (it is a holiday) or Saturday. I have to do the whole Year end inventory tomorrow. With 100% accuracy. "If you need help counting, we can give you some personal to help you with that."......The counting part is not the what takes a long time. Its the figuring out where we got 1000 more of these expsensive LCDs. But, the corporations that bought the company I work for wants to 'trim the fat.' "Cut down your non-billable hours. Cut down your non-billable hours." The last two meetings with my manager and supervisor, who I am now convinced has no idea about my job or what I do, but yet our now my bosses, was all about my "excessive hours" or my "efficiency." And if I do better on both, I will 'maybe' finally get that pay raise I have been demanding. Because my company is still "running a business."

But also today, I still had a hot list to do. Which I didn't complete all of the it. There were two huge jobs on it. I spend most of the day on one. And I still didn't finished it. But yet, my supervisor says my hot list is "manageable." "But if you are struggling to keep up, you can say so and so to help you with it." Yes, there is someone in Assembly that is trained some what on kitting jobs. But she isn't as experienced with the other huge job on the hot list. Which also usually takes a whole day to do as well. And she couldn't help anyway because she was busy with her task.

And this is on top of my supervisor wanting me to 'fix' the allocations with four different John Deere jobs. (There is a five ticket he also wants me to do that with as well but the ticket number doesn't exist in our system. So I don't know what that is about.) Because it is thousands of dollars in over allocations. But I just did a quick count of those parts in my stock. And if I did "fix" the "over allocations," it will throw off the counts of those parts even more. So, my Supervisor wants to fix a couple thousands of dollars of over allocations, but add to the hundreds of hundreds of thousands of dollars of way off inventory count. Which I won't have the time to fix let alone figure out as I can't come in on the weekend to do the inventory.

My Supervisor even wanted me to send an email on my "game plan" for year end inventory and how long it would take. So I spend an hour writing that email, over 5000 characters or more, I am sure, exhausting myself emotionally and stressing myself because they want me do the whole Year End in just one day. "It is just counting. It shouldn't take that long." Again, today's hot list was also "manageable."

On top of all of this, I am still only paid $18.28 for my job. With all of my responsibilities. And yet, they want me to "work less" because of the mandate from the top brass of "Cut down non-billable hours." THE CORPORATION PROFITED 1.13 BILLION OF DOLLARS LAST YEAR ALONE. IT CAN SURELY AFFORD TO PAY ME FOR WHAT I AM WORTH AND AT LEAST ONE DAY OF OVERTIME FOR ME! FUCKING DAMN IT!!!! But no, a supervisor and manager who doesn't know what my job intales is telling me to produce more work in half the time. And doesn't care about my inventory count because, "this one job is too expensive with over allocations." Maybe Assembly requested those parts to replace rejects. Happens all the fucking time.

And I am afraid that after the audit and I turn in my sheets, later in the week, I will be in a meeting with the chairman and I have to explain why we are over $500,000 of "missing" parts from our year-end inventory counts. I am just now praying that my supervisor and manager with be in that meeting too so that I am not only in facing the music.
