I Came By (2022) Review
I Came By (2022) Review
When young graffiti artists break into rich people’s homes and paint “I Came By” on the wall, it felt a risk but the fact that it would uncover a dangerous secret that would be life threatening was never really thought about! ⭐️⭐️ (more…)

HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO PAY?
Debt collectors always call at the most inopportune times! Filled with tension, unease, and dread, this simple phone conversation between a man and an anonymous bill caller, culminates to a shocking end that you most certainly won’t see coming. Kudos to the filmmakers behind this effective thriller.

The Assassins as Muse songs
Why not combine my two biggest loves in the world? The Assassins (and Templars) and the band Muse!!
Here I have given the major characters a song, and an explanation as to why I think this song suits them.
Muse is the first band I got into, and although I've moved onto different genres now I still hold them close in my heart.
Please enjoy, my friends, I worked hard on this one :)
◇▪◇
Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad:
Uno, from the album Showbiz.
Altaïr is the first Assassin Ubisoft showed us, and Uno is the first single Muse released. I think the overall calmness of the song with fewer angry parts reflect Altaïr personality.
"You could have been number one, if you'd only found the time,"
◇▪◇
Ezio Auditore da Firenze:
Assassin, from the album Black Holes and Revelations.
Ezio's life was turned upside down with the execution of his family and his discovery of the Assassins. The song Assassin to me embodies Ezio's anger towards the Templars, and his eagerness to take them down.
"Oppose and disagree, destroy demonocracy,"
◇▪◇
Connor Kenway/Ratonhaké:ton
Showbiz, from the album Showbiz.
Connor controls his feelings all throughout his life, mostly channeling them into the rage that fueled his Templar hunt. Showbiz begins slow and quiet enough that it perfectly demonstrates the young Ratonhaké:ton we see at the start of ACIII, but eventually rises into a cacophanus finale that is a mirror image of the game's ending.
"Controlling my feelings for too long, forcing our darkest souls to unfold...pushing us into self destruction,"
◇▪◇
Edward Kenway:
The Defector, from the album Drones.
The Defector is all about non conformity and straying away from the norm, and I think this represents Edward beautifully. From the word go Edward was never a run of the mill Assassin, and proved himself to be good at working alone, without a country or a king to serve.
"You can't control me, yeah I'm a defector,"
◇▪◇
Arno Dorian:
Dead Star, from Dead Star/In Your World EP.
Dead Star captures the upset and rage Arno held at Elise's death. It's raging beat and muted guitars bring the struggle of Arno's battles into a beautiful audio.
"You used to mean everything to me, now you're tired of fighting,"
◇▪◇
Evie Frye:
MK Ultra, from the album The Resistance.
Although MK Ultra is about mind control, I feel it encapsulates Evie's intelligence and will to fight wonderfully. It shows her struggle in stopping the Templars, who ultimately want to manipulate pieces of Eden to control and contain.
"How much deception can you take? How many lies will you create? How much longer till you break? Your minds about to fall,"
◇▪◇
Jacob Frye:
Thoughts of a Dying Atheist, from the album Absolution.
It's the chorus here that I really think represents Jacob. Although he comes across as brash and bold, there's a deeper meaning to Mr Frye. The chorus reflects Jacob's unrest at the future, and how he truly feels about Evie leaving him alone in London.
"And it scares the hell out of me, that the end is all I can see,"
◇▪◇
Bayek of Siwa:
City of Delusion, from the album Black Holes and Revelations.
City of Delusion illustrates Bayek's suspicion against the Egyptian State, and his mistrust for the Order. I think the serenity of the song also reflects a little on his waning relationship with Aya.
"Stay, wait for me, build a fortress and shield your beliefs, touch the divide as we fall in the ravine,"
◇▪◇
Aya of Alexandria:
Eternally Missed, a B-Side of the Hysteria single.
Eternally Missed is a deep cut song, and on one side, shows how she and Bayek miss each other when they are apart. On the other hand, I think the lyrics and the lullaby-like tune hark back to her past as a mother, and bring flashbacks of Khemu to her mind.
"Chase your dreams away, glass needles in they hay, the sun forgives the clouds, you are my holy shroud,"
◇▪◇
Haytham Kenway:
Time is Running Out, from the album Absolution.
TIRO is one of Muse's most famous songs, and I think it really reflects Haytham's attitude at the start of ACIII, when he is looking for the Temple with Ziio, and during Forsaken, where he is chasing Pointy Ears. I think it also links with his ending, and how he cant 'bury' the past.
"Our time is running out, our time is running out, you can't push it underground, you can't stop it screaming out, how did it come to this?"
◇▪◇
Shay Cormac:
Take A Bow, from the album Black Holes and Revelations.
Shay's transition from carefree Assassin to Master Templar was a bloody one, and he was forced to do things, to kill people, that he didn't want to. I think this song is perfect for this transition, and is Shay calling out the Brotherhood on their mistakes.
"And our freedom's consuming itself, what we've become, is contrary to what we want,"

Idea for a third season of Netflix’s ‘The Haunting of...” series.
The Haunting of Blackwater Chase - adapted from the short ghost stories of 19th century English novelist, traveller and Egyptologist, Amelia B. Edwards, specifically “Was It An Illusion?” and “The Phantom Coach” .
Unassuming school inspector, Frazer Parson (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) is sent to evaluate a small rural school in the isolated fictional village of Pit End, located on the edge of a coal mining region in northern Montana. After his car breaks down in the neighboring town of Drumley, and none of the locals seem to know where Pit End is exactly, let alone are willing to take him, he catches a coach the rest of the way, and must cut through a field on foot to get there.
He becomes lost in a thick fog and is still out after dark wandering the woods in search of the village, when he spots the figures of a young boy, and later, a man with a limp walking past, but neither of them seem to hear or acknowledge him when he calls out for help.
Eventually Frazer stumbles upon a lake next to a gloomy mansion in the middle of a deer park. Serendipitously, by bizarre coincidence, he discovers that the mansion, ‘Blackwater Chase’, is inhabited by an old friend of his from England named Philip Wolstenholme (Rahul Kohli), who he studied with at Oxford. Once an exuberant globetrotter, Philip appears to have filled the house to the rafters with a myriad of creepy artifacts, presumably hoarded from his various expeditions to Egypt and Italy, but has since become an eccentric recluse, shut off from the outside world and secretly afraid to leave the grounds.
The next day, Frazer visits Pit End School, where he recognises the schoolmaster, Mr Skelton (Henry Thomas) as the man he saw with a limp. Skelton, who is a rather timid and sycophantic wretch that jumps at shadows, denies seeing Frazer the night before, but is clearly alarmed by his arrival. The mansion’s groundskeeper, Ms Jacobi, who was a bus driver before coming to Blackwater Chase, warns Frazer against leaving by coach, as the local roads are treacherous and a crash killed a group of passengers a few years back. As the school is in rough shape, Frazer decides to stay in Pit End with Philip instead and together they rekindle their old relationship.
While hunting deer, Frazer occasionally sees the young boy from the first night, fishing in the murky black lake on the property and tries to talk with him to no avail. Frazer also meets a group of miners who work in the coal mine under Blackwater Chase, and attempts to face his own fears by descending into the depths of one of the mineshafts.
Strangely enough, another associate of theirs, Jane Murray (Kate Siegel) appears, having discovered the mansion by chance while wandering disorientated in the woods at night. Fascinated by Philip’s expansive collection, she too decides to stay for her own reasons, instead of catching the coach back in the morning, and Frazer later discovers that Ms Jacobi, also first arrived years ago in a similar fashion, as if Blackwater Chase was drawing the lost towards it and keeping them there.
That night, a cave-in causes the mine tunnels to flood, draining the lake above, which reveals, submerged in the thick mud at the bottom, the long dead body of the young boy, fishing rod in hand, with a pickaxe in the back of his head. Much to Frazer’s confusion, Philip denies ever having seen the boy on the property before and says that the coal mine has been empty and abandoned ever since the last time it flooded and drowned the mining crew inside, several decades ago. When Frazer asks how Blackwater Chase and the mine came to belong to his family in the first place, Philip becomes confused by the question and admits that it doesn’t, and realises he can’t remember how he got there.

A must-see for any fan. A good capture overall. There is one head that blocks the actors from the waist down in the center of the stage. There is a three-minute blackout during The Schuyler Puppets and a three minute blackout during the finale, as well as a couple other quick dropouts. Hannah's is also respected locally for gambling proper music. The Magnet, on Hardman Street, notwithstanding additionally having a New York experience to it, offers a special kind of venue. Spread over two floors, downstairs there are diner fashion ingesting booths with crimson leather upholstery and a dance-floor, even as upstairs the bar has a fab and chilled-out ambience. For a actually one of a kind ingesting enjoy that is full of favor and grace, go to the Philharmonic on Hope Street. Occupying a Grade I listed building contrary the Philharmonic Hall, it was designed by the organisation that built the Lusitania and the authentic Queen Elizabeth ocean liners. It still contains many original internal capabilities which includes its marble toilets, which might be listed as a national historical past treasure. Trendy bars in Liverpool include; the Blue Boar which is at the Edward pavilion in Albert Dock. This used to be the favorite area for Liverpool and Everton footballers to loosen up in. It is said that these days they opt for the non-public individuals bar - Baby Blue - that's downstairs. Baby Cream, on the Atlantic Pavilion, is also favoured through the trendy 'in-crowd' and is each gorgeous, yet pretentious, in identical measures.

A new film on the Soviet-era tragedy resonates powerfully in an age of political deceit.
s a child in California, the journalist Andrea Chalupa heard from her Ukrainian grandfather the story of Walter Duranty. As the New York Times’ man in Moscow, Duranty dismissed reports of Stalin’s man-made famine in Ukraine between 1932 and 1933 as a “big scare story” and licensed the west to ignore an atrocity that was killing around 10,000 Ukrainians a day. (Credible estimates of the total death toll range from three to seven million.) Chalupa’s grandfather was a survivor of the famine that Duranty smoothly euphemised as “widespread mortality from diseases due to malnutrition”: the Holodomor.
While studying Soviet history in 2005, Chalupa learned about another dimension to the story. In March 1933, it was a young Welsh journalist called Gareth Jones who first exposed the extent of the catastrophe. “Everywhere was the cry, ‘There is no bread. We are dying,’” he told a press conference in Berlin. This was the report that Duranty denounced, and the man whose reputation he ruined. Chalupa began thinking that this “David-and-Goliath story” would make a good movie but it was hard to sell a screenplay about an event that no movie had covered before. “The initial reaction [from producers] was: why haven’t I heard of this before?” she remembers. “Even if they rejected the project they still wanted to meet with me, just to learn more about the history.”
Years went by. During the “Euromaidan” revolution against the Russia-backed Ukrainian president Vikor Yanukovych in 2014, Chalupa and her sister Alexandra organised the Digital Maidan, a social media campaign to rebut Kremlin propaganda against the uprising. The assassination of liberal Russian politician Boris Nemtsov in 2015 enraged her that she rewrote the whole screenplay in a furious rush, “grabbing the reader by the throat and saying: How dare you not care about this?”
That new version impressed the Polish director Agnieszka Holland. Like HBO’s TV series Chernobyl, Mr Jones addresses the vast human cost of a system whose survival depended on industrial-scale deceit. “I’m really glad that popular art has started to be interested in communist crimes,” says Holland, 71, whose long career includes three acclaimed films about the Holocaust. “They are practically forgotten. A few years ago some survey [in Russia] asked, ‘Who was the greatest Russian leader?’ and Joseph Stalin came first place. What would we be thinking if a similar survey in Germany gave Adolf Hitler first place?” The self-described pessimist gives a chilly laugh. “We’d feel like we’re in deep trouble, right?”
The film, with James Norton as Jones and Peter Sarsgaard as Duranty, operates in two contrasting modes. Jones’ journey through Ukraine is characterised by a haunting absence. “Famine is dying alone and in silence,” says Holland. “You disappear, you know? It’s like a terrible dream.” The scenes among the Moscow press corps have a sickly decadence that in the move the United Press correspondent Eugene Lyons (Edward Wolstenholme) compares to Edgar Allan Poe’s 1842 short story The Masque of the Red Death. Apart from Malcom Muggeridge, who covered the famine for the Manchester Guardian, the Moscow correspondents conspired with Duranty and the Kremlin to shut down Jones’ story. Chalupa calls it gaslighting. (…)
Under the name The Price of Truth, Holland’s film has been a cause célèbre in Ukraine, where Kiev city council voted to name a street after Jones. (There is currently no prospect of its release in Russia.) It is an inspiring tale, yet fundamentally tragic. In a movie such as All the President’s Men (1976) or Spotlight (2016), the work of brave, tenacious reporters shocks the world, but in Jones’ case the whitewash succeeded. He was smeared by his peers, ostracised by Lloyd George, and murdered by Chinese guerrillas while reporting from Mongolia in 1935. Duranty, meanwhile, was feted as “one of the great foreign correspondents of modern times” for his role in President Roosevelt’s official recognition of the USSR, and lived to the age of 73. His Pulitzer has never been revoked. Perhaps that makes Mr Jones a more representative story. (…)

Elizabeth Wolstenholme Elmy was described by Emmeline Pankhurst as the ‘brains behind the suffragette movement’, writes Susan Munro. Plus Sylvia Edwards on the new statue of Emmeline Pankhurst
I was on the Pankhurst March in Manchester on Friday and it was truly “joyous” (Letters, 17 December). I too was surprised there was no coverage in Saturday’s Guardian. You can redeem yourself, perhaps, by giving some column inches to another wonderful suffragist, Elizabeth Wolstenholme Elmy, a friend of the Pankhursts despite being an atheist and socialist, who is in danger of being lost to history. Elizabeth was described by Emmeline Pankhurst as the “brains behind the suffragette movement” and she spent over half a century in the women’s movement addressing some of the major social issues of her day, including girls’ education, women’s property rights and domestic violence, as well as playing a major part in the suffrage success in 1918, the year she died. Throughout her life she remained well-connected with most of the prominent social reformers of her time, but who has heard of her today?
As a committed pacifist she did not support the violent activities advocated by the Pankhursts and, consequently, her amazing contribution to the advancement of women’s causes has been overshadowed. She was thought important enough, however, to secure a place as one of the most influential suffragistson the plinth of the recently unveiled Millicent Fawcett statue in Parliament Square.

Dealing with data that is missing not at random
What happens when you have missing data?  Many people recommend using multiple imputation (see Briggs et al. 2003; Faria et al. 2014; Gomes et al. 2013; Hunter et al., 2015; Hughes et al., 2016).  This approach, however, generally assumes that data are missing at random. Missing at random could be interpreted as the probability that health outcomes that are observed in the data are independent of their true value, conditional on the fully observed data (selection perspective); an alternative perspective would be that “given the fully observed data, the distribution of potentially missing data does not depend on whether those data are observed (pattern‐mixture perspective).”
But what happens if missing data points are not random, but rather provide some information on the censoring process?  For instance, if you measure changes in patient quality of life from baseline, it could be the case that the patients whose quality of life declines the most are least likely to respond to a survey.  A paper by Mason et al. (2018) proposes a Bayesian approach for dealing with data that are missing not at random.  Their approach relies on 6 steps:
Use previous studies and expert opinion to assess the extent and causes of missing data.  Identify variables that predict of missing data.
Formulate flexible Bayesian statistical model, such as a pattern-mixture model.
In the protocol, specify plausible assumption about the missing data for the base case analysis.
Specify the scope of sensitivity analyses for the missing data, and collect prior information from experts to inform these.
When the data are available, perform the base case and sensitivity analysis.
Report the results of the base case analysis, and discuss the extent to which they are robust under the sensitivity scenarios.
The authors provide a formal derivation of the math underlying these steps.  They also provide an example from the IMPROVE trial, a multicenter randomized controlled trial that compared outcomes for patients ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm who used emergency endovascular strategy (eEVAR) against an open repair.  Both treatment strategies were evaluted for clinical efficacy and cost effectiveness.
Quality of life was measured at 3 and 12 months after randomization.  The statistical model is outlined below where quality of life follows a bivariate normal distribution and depends whether individual i was in treatment arm k, the patient’s age, sex, and the Hardman index, a disease‐specific morbidity score.
Using this model, the authors then define a base case that assumed that quality of life and cost outcomes were missing at random.  The authors then implement their sensitivity analysis approach where:
μij = xiTβjk + (1-Rij)Δjk
νic = γkc + (1-Si)Γ
where Rij=1 if quality of life is observed and 0 otherwise, Si=1 is similarly defined to equal 1 if the patient’s costs is observed and 0 otherwise.  The xi is a vector of covariates.
Each of the Δijk parameters represents the average (marginal) difference between the observed and missing values of QoLijk. However, the distribution implied for any individual missing value will also be influenced by the observed QoLs for that individual, through the covariance matrix Σk.
The authors create a vector of the Δijk terms and assume it is distributed multivariate normal with a variance-covariance matrix of Σk.
The question is, where do these Δijk come from? The authors claim that asking expert opinion is best. Other papers propose using the Delta Method. The delta method assumes all the Δijk are equal to zero, which is equivalent to missing at random. The sensitivity analysis then increases the vector of Δijk until the treatment is no longer cost effective. Then a research could determine the plausibility of such a missing not at random result that would cause this CEA tipping point to occur.
In short, the Mason approach is fairly flexible to be able to model missing not at random observations, but largely hinges on experts being able to determine the nature of any missing not at random result to inform the model’s priors.
