Why the Akuma Class Doesn’t Trusts Lila Rossi

This dude is a loyal friend

Like, he’s also a loyal boyfriend, so it’s hard when his girlfriend is siding with Lila

But he’s the one who’s like

“Dudes, we’ve known Mari for years there’s no way she would do the stuff this new girl we’ve known for five minutes says she did.”

He and Kim and Mari were besties since preschool, I think we all know that.

I hate it when people say he tries to defend her with the high road crap

When he sees her hurting people, especially Marinette

Because lets be honest, he cares about her alot

He’s less forgiven

So he’s not going to try and make her life miserable

But he is going to try to get her to stop

Chloé

Let’s be honest, she never liked Lila in the first place.

So Imma give y’all bonus “how she figured out everyone’s identities”

So once she became friends with Marinette

Cause they formed a “we hate Lie-la” alliance

(tho since Mari’s still friends with the others its kinda awkward)

Chloe’s pretty smart.

Like, she totally could have figured it out before they became friends

But she would never have believed back then that Mari-trash was Ladybug, her idol (and lesbian awakening, lesbihonest)

But now that she’s friends with her, it’s way too obvious

And she definitely already knew about Adrien because these guys are besties

And, dudes, she never had a crush on him, she was just an overprotective best friend

And a very touchy one

To her, it’s all pretty obvious.

She thinks that its just whatever magic thats blinding everyone of the obvious, its immune to (like low-key Rachel Dare here)

But Sabine, Tom, and Jagged probably know to because they’re all Kings and Queens.

So Chloe figures everyone out pretty quickly.

Sabrina

She trust Chloe more than anyone.

But I’m not just gonna use that because its kinda boring.

Tho Chloe is her bi crush so that definitely helps secure loyalties

Its only when Marinette becomes MDC that she realizes

and yes, Sabrina probably knows because Chloe and she also recognizes the designs from some stuff she has in her own closet.

So anyway, she realizes Mari is MDC and she’s some famous designer and Lila is not

And Mari also knows Jagged and Clara and a whole bunch of other famous people

And she never brags about it but there’s proof that she knows them

while Lila always brags about it but she’s never been mentioned and no one knows her.

Alya

I hate it when people say she totally sides with Lila.

This girl knows that her bestie never lies(or at least thinks)

and some things with Lila don’t add up.

Like she doesn’t check directly if what Lila says is true

But she’ll be doing research for something else and see’s that it contradicts something that Lila said.

So she’ll do more research and try to figure more stuff out

And she’s like holy f*ck nothing Lila says is true.

Or, alternatively, for those of you who have watched season 4

She immediately realizes Lila’s a liar right after Marinette tells her she’s Ladybug.

Marinette

No explanation needed.

Mylène

Mylene notices when Lila insults one of her classmates one day.

Even if its subtle, or just piping on the edge of her blaming Marinette for something, she notices it.

And a good person wouldn’t say something like that,

Like Chloe, they all expect something like that from

No one every really liked Chloe in the first place

And Mari never says anything rude

Sure, she gets angry at Chloe and Lila sometimes, and she tries to prove what they say is wrong, but she never directly attacks someone.

I don’t know who Lila was being a bitch to this time, but it cost her a follower.

Alix

This girl is probably one of the most Gen Z kids in the Akuma Class, which is pretty sad because they’re all supposed to be Gen Z.

She can smell bullcrap from a mile away

Not to mention the little hints older Bunnyx drops whenever she visits.

With the mix of her being the future miraculous holder of time and being the daughter of a historian, she’s very aware of history and timelines and cause and effects and chain reactions

So when Marinette starts ‘acting up’ she tries to find when her personality switched over

And even if she seems more like a background character, this aro/ace queen always seems to know your secrets.

So even before she knew Lila was a phony, she knew that Mari was MDC and that Jagged Stone was Juleka and Luka’s dad

So she definitely figured some stuff out that way

Honestly, next to Chloe, Alix was probably one of the first people to figgure out Mari’s identity.

She’s a detective to rival batman

Ivan

I think Lila would make some sort of rift between him and Mylene.

He loves her so much and it would be so hard

And mari and her friends would help him out

and he would see the truth

They wouldn’t like break up or anything

But he can just tell immediately when someone’s being a bad person.

Kim

Probably something similar to Nino

But I think it’d be a bit more like he’s totally a die-hard fan of some of Marinette’s connections or some of Marinette’s work itself

And when he puts the pieces together its like everything makes sense in the world.

He really feels super stupid afterwards.

Ondine probably slaps him for not trusting his childhood best friend before some bitchy new girl.

Max

This is the smartest dude in class

He made a f*cking robot with emotions you can’t tell me he doesn’t figure Lila out.

A part of me believes that in the first episode with Lila when they were all waiting on her hand and foot they were probably aware that she was kind of delusional, but were giving into it the way you give into the tales of a six year old.

Like ‘yeah, okay sweetie. Sure’.

I mean, at least that’s why Max went along with the napkin thing, because there’s no other excuse for that whole incident.

Nathaniel

I don’t totally know how he figured her out, but I love the idea of her saying that she can introduce him to the creator of the Ladybug Comics.

They actually sit next to each other in class, so he definitely is more aware of her weird behavior than others.

And since he’s an artist he’s very observant, always noticing things like her facial expressions and what seems more exaggerated than real.

And we all know how kwami-damned done Nathaniel is with the class, so he probably knew all along.

Not to mention that since the rest of the school is less submissive to Lila’s lies, Marc probably pointed it out to him at some point.

There’s also the idea that since Nathaniel is pretty much never mentioned anymore, the class forgets about him and he ends up having to spend some time with Marinette and the other outcasts

In which he realizes that they are actually good people.

Honestly, Nathaniel probably knew all along but he’s just not a drama queen about it so Lila never bothered him.

Rose

Girls besties with Prince Ali, one of the key components of Lila’s lies

She definitely does not want to believe that someone is capable of so much evil, and she definitely gets Akumatized when she figures it out

She goes through a lot of denial but is eventually convinced.

Juleka

Her dad is Jagged Stone, also another key component of Lila’s lies.

After becoming Tigris Pourpre, the holder of the tiger miraculous (that’s canon in the future), she gets a little bit more invested in cat culture

And omfg I just realized that both of our models are kittens and I just wanna DIE because that’s so cute.

And honestly now that I’m thinking about it if she was a celebrity she would totally take after Jagged and have an emotional support tiger like Princess Jasmine.

ANYWAY, I’m kinda getting off topic here.

So she asks Jagged about his cat, and he’s like

“wtf I’ve never had a cat why would I have a cat I have FANG my CROCODILE”

And she’s like but your cat...

And he’s like “Jules, darling, I wrote a song about how I replaced my family with a guitar and I have three instagrams for Fang, why would I have a feline animal?”

And she’s just like

....

And honestly she probably already knew some sh*t was up before that

Because Luka obviously, despite only having met Lila, like, once, probably, dislikes Lila severely

And also Juleka is more of an observer than a do-er so she probably saw that some stuff was up.

Hii. Can i share an irrelevant yet interesting thing i observed? On twitter, mcu stans and writers & artists are segregated bc they mostly clash. Anyway, lots of stans see steve as bottom sometimes to the point of feminization, while for writers its the other way around-they do it w/ bucky. I have no problem either way but I'm just wondering why that is. Any thots? Feel free to ignore this hahaha its stupid but im really curious

Shit. Just realized how my ask abt the twitter stans + writers sounded. The clash has nothing to do w/ sex positions btw. Mostly mcu twt criticizes the "problematic content" & "fetishization". The most recent one I can think of is bucky being drawn in feminine clothes. Which is weird bc the way they talk about steve isnt different? Im just confused why theyre against bucky being seen that way. Sorry for bothering u!! Just wanted to clear that up. Pls ignore 😭

Hi, anon! It’s not a stupid question at all, I understand the confusion about some fandom behaviors. Gods know I’ve got it too. I do have thoughts (and also thots but the pandemic has separated me from them).

So disclaimer: I avoid twitter like the plague, so I’m going by only what you've described, which is that there are two groups who don’t get along and both display the same behavior but one thinks the other is problematic for that behavior.

Now, this specific instance might be alien to me but the general gist of it is sadly very familiar.

(Also, I’m gonna be using ‘you’ in the general sense a lot in this. I’m not accusing you of anything described here, nonnie)

First of all, whenever fandom discussions segue into accusations of "problematic content" and "fetishization", you can stop unpacking and throw away the whole damn suitcase. In this particular case, if one side is saying that feminizing Bucky is fetishizing (how the fuckst even) while they themselves feminize Steve, then they’re hypocrites who’re clearly far less subtle about their double standards than most people who engage in this sort of wank.

As for why they act this way - from what I’ve generally observed, there’s a trend in fandom where it’s no longer enough to simply like or dislike something. You have to do it for woke reasons and moreover, you have to go out of your way to convince other people to also like/dislike it. This is baffling to me. I understand finding fandom friends who share your tastes. Common ground is fun, even - especially - for venting/bitching purposes. But those who go “my way or the highway” for all of fandom make zero sense. Not everyone will agree with your character interpretations and your ships and your likes and your dislikes. We’re all different people looking for different things from fandom.

For the most part, this is an implicit understanding in fan interactions, but for a while, things have been changing. There’s a lot of performative vitriol from certain sects of fans. Quite a few people act like your tastes in fiction define you as a person.

No. It doesn’t. If you hate Natasha, you’re not a misogynist. If you think Stucky is boring, you’re not a homophobe.

And to use the example you cited, drawing Bucky in feminine clothes doesn’t make you a fetishizer or a transphobe or whatever hot-button word people like to throw around when men are drawn in feminine ways. Drawing Steve that way also doesn’t make you any of these things.

But for a lot of folks, it’s not enough to simply say “yeah, I hate Bucky in a dress but I love Steve in one.” You have to do mental gymnastics to show why Bucky in a dress is fetishizing (once again, fetishizing what) while Steve in a dress is a-okay. It doesn’t make much sense, as evidenced by your confusion, anon.

I got a little sidetracked but yeah, sounds like that's why what you’re describing happens. Basically, individual tastes are complex and can’t always be easily explained, but toxic fandom pockets have it made it so that these tastes can’t be expressed unless they’re accompanied by the ‘right reasons.’

Description

Maika Sakuranomiya is one of the main characters of the manga and anime, Blend S. Maika is a high school girl whose dream is to travel to foreign countries in the near future. To achieve this dream, she tries to find a part-time job...but has no success due to her face becoming unintentionally scary. That is, until, she is given a job at a character cafe called: Stile. However, there is a catch: She has to play a sadistic character...much to her dismay. Despite that, however, she befriends the employees of the cafe and meets many, interesting people who come into the cafe.

Personality

Maika is a very sweet, kind and caring girl who is also a bit innocent and naive. Growing up, she lived in a traditional-Japanese home with her parents and older brother and sister. Maika has a very kind heart and is willing to help others. When she feels as though she has hurt or offended anyone, she will apologize profusely. Because of her innocence and kindness, she does not like playing a sadistic character for work. However, she will practice being sadistic due to her dedication to her job.

Maika hates how her face becomes sadistic whenever she smiles or frowns, as it makes people and animals afraid of her. When in her sadistic character, Maika sounds harsh and gives the customer mean glares...much to their delight. Because of her natural-sadistic look, Maika had little confidence in herself and believed that no one would ever hire her because of her face. But after being hired to play a sadistic waitress at the cafe, ‘Stile’, Maika has grown more confident and is happy to have met people who love her sadistic appearance.

Maika is a bit oblivious to certain, modern day things such as video games, cosplaying, and manga. But after spending time with her co-workers, Maika becomes more knowledgeable about these things and enjoys going to arcades with her friends. Maika does become flustered when one of her friends has her cosplay as a Magical Girl character, or as a dominatrix when undergoing training to become more sadistic. Maika also becomes flustered when she sees something sexual, and can even go into shock from it.

Ever since she was 5 years old, she has been fascinated with foreign cultures, especially American and European ones. She loves anything non-Japanese to the point that she wished she had been born with blonde hair and blue eyes. She even wanted to place a chimney in her house so she could capture Santa Clause, and had her first crush on the mascot of an American chicken restaurant. Though she appears to have a wealthy family, she wants to earn her own money so that she can travel to other countries in the future.

Relationships

Parents: Not much is known about Maika’s parents, though they appear to be strict but loving parents towards Maika. They both dress and act in a traditional, Japanese manner. When Maika was a child, she would often cause them stress and worry with her growing obsession for foreign countries. For example: She wanted to dye her hair blond to look like a cute foreigner...but her parents thought that she wanted to become a delinquent and talked her out of it. Her father is the reason for Maika’s love for foreign countries, as he brought a foreign associate to his home when Maika was 5 years old, and she would not stop staring at him until she was thrown out of the room. It is unknown what her family does for work...though they appear to be quite wealthy and even have bodyguards for their children. It is likely that they know about Maika’s job and her friendship with her coworkers, as they gave her a giant tuna to give to them during their bbq. They do not seem against Maika wanting to travel to foreign countries, likely meaning that they grew used to her love for foreigners over time.

Aika and Koichi Sakuranomiya: Aika is Maika’s older sister and Koichi is her older brother. Like their parents, the two of them dress and act in a traditional, Japanese manner. The two of them love Maika very much, as they were both very happy when they learned that she had friends (It’s likely that Maika did not have many friends growing up). Like Maika, they also have natural-sadistic expressions and tendencies...though they are more afraid Maika’s sadistic look, especially when she is mad. Because Maika is their ‘little sister’, they are quite protective of her. For example: When Aika visited Maika at work and saw her cry, she pulled out a sword towards Dino, whom she thought the reason that Maika was crying. But after the misunderstanding had been cleared up, she quickly apologized for her actions. Aika and Koichi believe that Dino is Maika’s boyfriend, and try to make him feel welcomed by giving him Japanese hard cookies...which are way too hard to eat. Though they both appear elegant and mature, they can become quite emotional when it’s about Maika.

Dino: Dino is the chef and manager of the cafe, Stile. Dino is a 26 year old, Italian man who fell in love with Maika the moment he first laid eyes on her. Unlike other people who saw Maika’s sadistic face, Dino fell in love with her and hired her to play a sadistic waitress at his cafe. Dino is a very positive man who can become hysterical when it comes to Maika. Dino loves Japanese culture and often stays up late watching anime after work. Despite being the owner of Stile, Dino is often bossed around by two of his employees, Koyo Akizuki and Mafuyu Hoshikawa, due to him often falling asleep during the day and having a bit of childish behavior as well. Dino and Maika are very close friends, though Maika is oblivious to Dino’s crush on her...even though he is terrible at hiding his feelings for her. Maika is grateful towards Dino for hiring her at his cafe, though wishes that she didn’t have to play a sadistic character as part of her job. Dino loves both Maika’s kind and sadistic side, and often has fantasies about them being a couple. Dino often fails at confessing his love to Maika, but does not give-up and will still try to tell her how he feels. Unlike Koro and Mafuyu, Maika does not mind Dino falling asleep and will try to comfort him whenever he is upset. Their friends want them to become a couple and find their interactions entertaining to watch.

Kaho Hinata: Kaho is a 17 year old girl who works at Stile, where she plays a tsundere character. Though Kaho plays a tsundere while working, she is actually an energetic girl who loves to play video games, is a champion at arcade games, and is very kind towards others. Kaho is one of Maika’s best friends and is the one who introduces Maika to arcade and video games. Kaho often helps Maika with work and enjoys hanging out with her and Mafuyu outside of work. Whenever customers are playing games at the cafe, Kaho will play with them while acting like a tsundere...which is the only time she acts like an actual tsundere. Maika sees her as a good friend and acts like a sister towards her. Like their coworkers, Kaho is not afraid of Maika’s sadistic look and thinks that she is a natural at her job. Whenever Maika is in shock or remembering something bad, Kaho will try to snap her out of it. It is likely that Kaho has a crush on her coworker, Koyo, who is an actual tsundere that she based her character off of.

Mafuyu Hoshikawa: Mafuyu is a 20 year old college student who works at Stile. Mafuyu plays a ‘little sister’ character at work, calling the male customers ‘big brother’ and acting like a doting sister. However...she is actually a straight faced, sharp-tongued and strict girl who is the more dominant one at Stile. Despite her small size, she is quite strong and is able to make Dino crumble in fear before her. When Maika first saw her, she thought that Mafuyu was a child...but was flicked in the head by Mafuyu who knew what she was thinking. Maika and Mafuyu get along well as both coworkers and friends. Maika has a lot of respect for Mafuyu, and treats her like an adult instead of a child. Despite being very serious and hardworking, she is also a bit of an otaku like Dino and Kaho. Mafuyu likes to dress-up Maika as a character from a Magical Girl anime, whom Maika slightly resembles. Mafuyu takes great pride in how popular her character at work is, but does wish to be seen as an adult outside of work. Mafuyu lives with her parents and younger brother (who is taller than her), and has always wanted a little sister. She has thought about having a boyfriend...but would rather that the man liked her true persona instead of her fake one.

Miu Amano: Miu is a 22 year old doujinshi artist. Miu had accidentally left a magazine featuring adult rated content at the cafe, and then applied for a part-time job there the next day. She revealed herself to be the creator of that magazine, which made Maika go into shock for quite a while. She decided to work at Stile to find inspiration for her next, original work. After being hired, she took on a ‘big sister’ persona. She is very kind, but also has a wild imagination when it comes to ideas for romance doujinshi...which are quite perverted and sadistic. Maika sees her as a positive role model and tries to be more like a sister figure while working...but still ends up being sadistic without meaning to. Maika’s relationship with Dino inspired Miu to create an original series about a cute but sadistic maid (based off of Maika), and a handsome but cowardly butler (based off of Dino). Miu sees Maika and Dino as her greatest inspirations, and even gets inspiration from her coworkers as well. Miu will often start drawing when she gets an idea for an original doujinshi.

Hideri Kanzaki: Hideri is a 16 year old boy who becomes the newest employee at Stile. At first, everyone believed that Hideri was a girl who had a boyish personality. That is, until, Dino revealed that Hideri was actually a cross-dressing boy. Hideri’s work persona is that of a female idol, as his reason for working at Stile is so he can practice being one. Hideri originally worked at his family’s farm, and was supposed to take over the family farm when he was older. However, he hated working on the farm and wanted to become an idol instead. Hideri decided to move to the city and dressed as a girl as part of his journey to becoming an idol. Hideri knows about Dino’s feelings for Maika and will tease him about it, but Hideri does want Maika to know about Dino’s feelings for her. Hideri and Maika get along well and become good friends. Despite acting and dressing feminine, there are some moments that imply that Hideri may have a crush on Maika...but does not act upon them and still tries to help Dino confess to her. Hideri’s real, boyish voice only comes out when he is upset about something. The customers are unaware that he is really a boy and believe that he is a girl.

Koyo Akizuki: Koyo is a 21 year old chef who works as a chef at Stile. Koyo is a male tsundere who is often working alongside Dino in the kitchen. Like his coworkers, Koyo is not afraid of Maika’s sadistic face and even praises her for her work performance. Koyo can become both easily angered and flustered, and will act like a tsundere. He wishes that more women would come to the cafe, since all of their customers are usually men. He is a bit of an otaku who likes Yuri (lesbian manga), and wishes to see Yuri scenarios in real life. Maika tried to help make Koyo’s fantasy come true by sharing parfaits with Kaho in order to make him happy. He takes his job seriously and will yell when no one is doing their work...though he mostly does this with Dino. Koyo wants Maika to know how Dino feels about her, and is willing to help him. He is a fan of Miu’s work...but she often imagines him in Boy’s Love scenarios. There are many hints that Koyo has a crush on Kaho, and that he tries to hide that he does care about her.

Owner: Owner is a stray dog whom Maika found while her way to work. He is a large dog who appears to be a husky mixed. Maika feels a strong connection to Owner, as they both have the same kind of eyes...which made Maika believe that that was why he was abandoned. Maika was unable to take Owner home due to her siblings not liking dogs, and no one else could take him in due to their homes not allowing pets. However, it was soon decided that Owner would stay with Dino, as his apartment was located above the cafe. Despite Dino not wanting to have Owner live with him, he could not resist Maika’s plead and agreed to take him in. Since then, Owner has live with Dino and has actually helped improve his lifestyle. Owner is quite intelligent and is able to understand the people around him. Like Maika, Owner’s face becomes sadistic when he smiles. Dino and Owner bond when Owner develops a one-sided love for a female dog. Maika comments that she, Dino and Owner look like a couple or a family when the three of them are all out together.

HEADCANON: THE MATCHMAKER

WARNING: This post is bound to containt SPOILERS & what’s more will be long. I will place it under a read more. I apologies in advance, because it might seem a bit scattered brained & its something i can gladly talk about in detail if anyone wishes to ask me questions on the matter.

Now to fully explain about the reasons for this HC, you have to understand that Mulan has an EXTREME dislike towards the matchmaker in general & will go out of her way to avoid one if possible.

To begin with, her dislike of one began when she was a small child. she had seen the village girls, while growing up, get dressed up all trying to impress this one woman who seemed to never once show any form of kindness to them. she would watch them be chosen, ALL OF THEM fearful that they would be rejected & ruin their families honor by not appeasing this one person who had a LARGE amount of control over their lives. over the years, especially when she had been told by her parents that she had been MATCHED, this feeling of dread and disliked continued to expand, but she knew that she had no choice but to uphold the tradition & agree to go meet with her.

Considering her culture & how everyone, including her parents are traditional, she had been taught that a woman could only bring honor by marrying & baring male heirs into the world. & since Mulan is a girl, she would have been forced to learn from a young age to act more ladylike ( learning to make clothing or sow dresses, flower arraignments, cooking, dancing etc ), instead of following her passions ( such as martial arts, reading and writing, & basically all the things her father taught her, despite the fact that he had told her to hide it ).

To further look into this, let me quote the actual film for 2020 because it really does give good insight to the attitude of how & the way that most woman had been forced to think:

LETS BREAK THIS DOWN EVEN FURTHER because boy oh boy do i have a lot to say about it ( i promise to keep my opinions on the matter minimum ), due to the fact that its a huge part of why Mulan dislikes one & because it helps shape her personality.

First of all, as we all know, Mulan is the eldest child. She has a younger sister which of whom she is extremely protective over & though she does not have a brother, you see her step into the roll of a son at a early age. Why? her father, a former war general ( i have it HC that he stepped down when she was 15, bc his injury became to much & because he somehow offended the emperor aka a fact based off the legends ) & because he is the only male on the farm, she felt the need to help him & so stepped up to the plate to take over as much chores as possible & to learn from him the ways that a male heir would. In truth, she is lucky, for her father, raised her to not only learn to read & write as a male would have, but so too did he teach her martial arts ( not as much as she had learned in the army, but enough to realize her talent ).

You have to understand, Martial Arts in of itself, is a VERY DISPLINED practice. it requires structure & the ability to completely focus on the task at hand until it becomes second nature to the person who is practicing it. This is something one would practice for hours on end & each martial artist, actually incorporates their skills into their every day life routine. aka how you see her jumping off of roofs so easily.

Something to explain further on why i am saying why her QUIET NATURE is extremely relative is the fact that, in Martial Arts, you do not want to be loud. the more quiet you are, the more highly regarded you are because you can be used for stealth missions & no one would see or hear you coming if you are well trained. each step they take, they are trained to take quietly. their breaths, must remain even & their stamina building skills are essential to this, because it would do a warrior no good if you are heavy breathing all of the time.

Another thing to remember too, Mulan was raised to remain quiet in general. In fact, its a huge part of her personality. When she is angry, she grows even more quiet ( considered to be a scary quiet bc of the fact that her features turn icy & that she could easily take you down without even blinking an eye ), when she is happy, YES she gets joyful and child like sometimes, but her tone always remains that of an inside voice. very rarely does it go loud into what one would consider “yelling” because she does not like to raise her voice in such a manner & if she does happen to do so, it bothers her to the point where she will walk away.

Part of the reasoning for this, is because a woman should look soft, feminine & should not complain. They must take care of the chores, and are expected to remain composed, so that they do not disturb the household. Another reason for this too as far as she is concerned is that she finds it unnecessary to be loud in order to get her point across.

As far as Graceful & Elegant is concerned, hell even Poised. Take a look at any C-drama, and watch how the girls act in it. The way they flutter their fans. Move within their Hanfu. True, some girls are louder then others, but in reality, they are trained to move the way they do, so that way they can look attractive & appear delicate. This makes the “man” want to protect his woman & as they joked in the animated version of mulan “Want to go to war for you”. In the animated version, it came off as a joke, but in reality, it was anything but.

Men were expected to go to war, to fight for their country & are considered to be the providers, who must be obeyed. they are taught from a young age to prove themselves both mind & body, thus their training with martial arts & why they are chosen to go to some of the best schools. It is the women who were expected to raise their sons, & to take care of the household & the parents on the husbands side of the family, because as a woman, once married, she is sent off to live with them. & should the husband die??? she’s expected to stay there ( & if she never gave birth to a son, is considered a shame upon their name ). something else, as a FUN fact for you if her parents want her to remarry, bc her husband died & she is still young enough to bare heirs, they would have to BUY her back & pay the husbands family off so they would release their claim on her.

TO GET BACK ON TRACK HERE, during the scene where mulan is with the matchmaker, you can see the nervous behavior of all of the family involved. she is dressed within fine silk, her hair put in a perfect way. her waist needing to be “small” & her features pale with makeup on. this is not only discomforting, but for someone who hates makeup in general, she did not feel like herself.

What’s more, take a look at her family. her mother would not let her eat, moved her along quickly, & sat there with the perfect poise, despite the fact that in her eyes, you can see the nervous nature. her sister, who is younger then her, is present, why? because she will eventually have to do this too & she is a female within the family. she does not move, simply must sit there and stare, watching mulan despite knowing her sister does not want to be her. Her father? outside, waiting nervously as he is hoping for good news.

I won’t go into to much detail, such as the spider & the fact that mulan showed her skill within martial arts ( & it had been ruined because of her stupid hair ), but instead focus on what happened afterwards. As she is leaving with her family, trying to preserve what dignity they had left, the woman calls out:

❝ Dishonor to the Hua family. They have failed to raise a good daughter! ❞ - 𝐌𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐫 2020

THIS IS THE WORST THING SHE CAN POSSIBLY SAY. no man, upon hearing she had failed the matchmaker, would want her. what’s more, to bring shame upon her family name, especially as the oldest, could do damaging effects to her younger sister in the future & hurt her father’s reputation further.

Honor is a huge thing & the fact that hers had been stripped away so publicly, is not something she will ever get over. Nor forgive. In the movie, when Commander Tung expresses to Mulan, while she was still under disguise, that he wanted to bring her to meet his daughter and his own VILLIAGE MATCHMAKER -- - it should further show you just how big of a deal their words are within their culture. to not use one is almost unheard of.

I am going to skip ahead a little. At the end of the film, the reason why the matchmaker fainted, btw, is not because she was overwhelmed by emotions at seeing Mulan winning back her honor in a completely unique way -- - but because she is now UNTOUCHABLE by her words. her claim upon her honor means nothing. her sentence to her failure no longer matters. Not only that but Mulan now as a WAR HERO & future agent for the emperor himself, would no longer meet the requirements to be matched by her.

Why? because no village boy would meet the expectations of matching with a war hero like her. Especially when the emperor himself wants her to join so badly, he sent his best men, a new weapon & spread the words in front of the entire village, instead of just having them ask her in private.

Because i legit made this so lengthy, allow me to add one more thing into the mix. Mulan with her husband Hanzo ( @koeii ) did not ask the matchmakers permission or approval. In fact, she out right skipped that step in general, not because their marriage in the main verse was a secret, but because she refused to value the opinion of her.

For the record as well, when it comes to her marrying Jesse ( @huckleberrytm ) & Vanitas ( @kukyc ), she too will not use one regardless if her parents ask her to or not. for in her opinion, she has chosen to marry for love & not for the sake of tradition.

I am going to end my little rant or tirade. Long story short, Mulan has a deep dislike for a matchmaker & will not usually like to deal with one OR even suggest to others that they find one. she will avoid it at all costs & if brought up in a conversation, aka with family, she will try to change the topic so that she can avoid being asked when it is she will choose to get married, considering that she is passed the traditional age.

This is something I should have edited together.

So here it is: (a lot of!) the sweet messages I’ve received in the last month or so that are in direct response to my anonymous hate mail.

I don’t know how true it is, but I’ve heard it said that humans are remarkably negative creatures, and it takes so many more positive experiences to balance out just one negative experience. And maybe it’s not that universal a thing, but I can say that it sure feels relevant to my own life.

So, I think it’s important to remind myself that, no matter how much it seems like it’s so easy to attack me but so difficult to support me, I’ve actually received far more kind messages than cruel messages throughout this whole mess. And the kind messages are so much more thoughtful, too—and often attached to real names!

And... I think that says something when I’m as cringey and humiliating as I am. These folks aren’t too ashamed to say that they’re here for me and what I do.

(But that said, I have removed names from anything that wasn’t a reblog or reply because I don’t want to embarrass anyone. Please let me know if you don’t want your words here at all, and I’ll blur them out. I don’t want to make anyone uncomfortable.)

There’s some stuff I want to address under the cut—along with a transcript if anyone is interested in reading these words but has trouble with the screenshots—but more important than any of my ramblings to follow, I want to thank everyone who took the time to write out these supportive sentiments and who continues to support me. I know these meltdowns are a drag, and I know I’ve been a nuisance. Thank you for sticking with me. I aim to be better and live up to what these messages say.

First things first, I want to clarify why I posted the collage of all the hate the other day. I didn’t approach that well, and I’m sorry. I realized too late that it was a bad decision.

Really, that collage was more meant just for me. Maybe it’s sad, but I’ve been actively writing on this site for a good half decade now, and for a lot of that time, I’ve almost craved anon hate. I was disappointed that I never got any. I wondered what the heck I was doing wrong.

After all, I have so many unpopular opinions. I realized that a lot of the community disliked me—or if that’s too strong a word, I knew they didn’t want anything to do with me—because of what I think and how I feel. But they never wanted to voice anything to my face. I wasn’t worth the effort to be attacked. I was nothing. Nobody.

There’s this quote from Tibor Kalman that I think about a lot: “[W]hen you make something no one hates, no one loves it.” If no one hated me enough to hate me right to my face, I thought, then I wasn’t good enough. I was boring. Easily forgotten. Not worth the effort.

So, getting all that anon hate for the first time? God, it hurt. It hurt so bad. Getting everything I’d always feared the community hated about me—as well as things I didn’t even consider them hating about me—right in my inbox? Ow. I cried a lot. I wanted to burn everything I ever wrote a lot. I wanted to quit making stuff for this community a lot.

What’s the use? I thought—selfishly, of course, keeping in mind all the support up above. Why do I try? It was cruel and unfair, but I kept thinking these things. I kept thinking, What’s the use when nobody wants me here?

But I also thought about the implications of getting all that stuff thrown at me. And I knew it meant one thing: I’m not boring anymore.

There is at least one person out there who frequently checks my blog for more things to rail on me for. There is at least one person going out of their way to write nasty, awful, mean-spirited messages. There is at least one person eagerly waiting for me to respond, to say something, anything, so that they can hurt me and drag me and push me down.

After all these years, to at least one person, I’m worth the effort. No matter how much the messages have stung and destroyed me, I wanted to keep a record of them to remind myself, hey. Someone or someones out there hate(s) me this much for having a different opinion on a cartoon. Maybe that says that my opinions on this cartoon are worth something.

I mean, they’re worth this level of mocking and ridicule, right?

But... I could have just kept the collage to myself. It’s a personal motivation. Nobody else needs to see these terrible things. That just encourages the cruelty even more. Why did I publicize it?

Well, it’s not too uncommon for Internet content creators to make something out of their hate comments. I like the trend of turning the comments into songs, like here, for example:

At the end of the video, Madilyn Bailey, the artist, says that the purpose of the song is to mock Internet troll culture and make something positive from the negativity.

But I wouldn’t say that that was really my motivation for posting my collage. Call me silly and naive, but I wanted to draw attention to these Internet fandom issues. Everything in that collage is what I was having to deal with... on top of my normal life struggles.

While all of this was happening, I was tapering off my anxiety and depression medication because I felt it wasn’t as effective as it could be and because I feared it was making me lose my hair—something that I am extremely self-conscious about. I cut my hair short nearly a decade ago, and it’s never grown back to the same length.

So, needless to say, while all of this was happening, I was horrified about the big clumps of hair lost in the shower. I was dealing with lightheadedness and dizziness from the withdrawal of my meds (which I’m still dealing with, btw), and I was also dealing with stresses at work. My department has changed management within the last year, and there’s been the concern that people will lose their jobs. There’s been the concern that this occupation won’t be enough to support me anymore.

While all of this was happening, I was stressed about my career, about money, about growing older—the beginning of the anon hate assault was just days before my birthday. I couldn’t see my therapist as much as I wanted because there ain’t enough therapists out there for all this world’s issues.

And while I know that I shouldn’t compare, I also know well that my struggles are nothing compared to the struggles of others. So, how must it feel to deal with all the crap that life just normally throws at you, that’s probably a lot worse for most people than it is for me... and then come home to messages that treat you like a disgusting, horrible, awful human being for your feelings on a cartoon? For work you offer to a community for free and fun?

For answers to questions that you only answered because you were asked to?!

Well, it felt pretty bad to me.

When I posted my collage, I meant to send a message about how this is not okay. I don’t want to see this kind of behavior, and I’m bothered that I don’t know how normal or common what happened to me is. Is this an everyday occurrence for online content creators? Have I just been shielded all these years because I wasn’t interesting enough?

I hoped that by sharing what I was going through, it’d draw attention to the problem. We shouldn’t be treating our fandom content creators like this. It’s not fair. It’s sick.

Of course, I don’t want to guilt anyone into supporting me. I don’t want anyone to feel like they can’t criticize me. I don’t want anyone to feel that, just because I was dealing with a Lot in life, any poor behavior on my part is somehow okay. It isn’t.

The comments that probably hurt me the most in that collage aren’t even the “hate” ones. They’re the ones that express that I messed up. That I hurt them. I can’t say I agree with how these feelings were expressed, but more than any nasty, personally insulting message, those probably hit hardest. I hate the feeling that I’m disappointing my followers. In fact, in taking screenshots for this post, I saw that at least one of the people who had sent me a sweet message has since unfollowed. And that—the sense that I should just stop, that my work really is as horrible as the cruel anons say, that I’m no longer someone they want to support because I’m a disaster and a failure—that... really, really stung.

But as I’ve said before, I can’t blame anyone for leaving me after all this drama. It stinks. It sucks. I messed up. I try to be kind, respectful, considerate, but I’m not perfect, and there are gonna be mistakes along the way.

So I want to encourage—but only if you’re comfortable doing so, of course—more feedback about how to be better. How could I make my content more appealing? How could I handle these situations in ways that are less awful? Could I improve my post-tagging system? My therapist is helping me, but I’d like to hear from all y’all, too. I want to know how to make stuff that people actually enjoy. Anon hate doesn’t exactly help me make better content, but actual constructive feedback will. That’s what I want to see.

It’s a lot, I know ^^; And that’s not even close to all of it. But where should I start? Don’t worry; I intend to finish everything here—especially because a lot of these are old, old requests!—but I’m easily overwhelmed, so an idea of where to begin would be really helpful for me!

tl;dr, I shouldn’t have posted that thing the other day, and maybe this long vomit dump about my intentions doesn’t even come close to making up for it. But I want folks to know that I appreciate their support and would love any feedback about how to better serve the community and live up to these kind messages.

You don’t know if it needs you? At times like these I’d say the fandom doesn’t deserve you. It’s always mind-boggling – and yeah, saddening – to recognize how readily people forget how to be civil and begin to hold the meaning they see in fiction as more important than the feelings and experiences of others. I’d say it’s reflective of the cancerous state of fandom environments that it’s so much easier to win support with sweeping, neat and tidy divisiveness – that is, by resorting to discouraging, dismissing, or ridiculing differences in opinion – than it is to garner support as a thoughtful proponent of discussion.

Those who would argue “This fandom would be perfect if only those people who have other opinions/ships would just *stop* already” are those who would rather reign over a wasteland than accept that their views aren’t threatened/invalidated by the existence of differing views. And they almost certainly don’t appreciate the irony in that the perfect victory they envision is one in which what remains of the fandom is all cut from the same cloth. Never stop being you, goop.

I love your analysis. I tend to agree with the stuff about Ryuko and Senketsu and think it’s a big part of what makes the show beautiful. If there were PhDs in Kill la Kill, you would deserve one.

MUN QUESTIONS. Q1 : if you could write your character your way in their own movie , what would it be called , what style would it be filmed in , and what would it be about ? A1 : I actually REALLY enjoy the game’s story line, much as I feel the redemption through death is overplayed and not as deep as people make it out to be. I’d find a way to subvert that or some alternative, but idk. I like the game’s story. lol

Q2 : what would their soundtrack / score sound like ? A2 : Western-y. IDK? The game’s soundtrack is actually really good too so. Q3 : why did you start writing this character ? A3 : I love his development and progression as a character, and even with the trailers where he seemed no more than an angry outlaw there was a part of me that was still “hmm” about writing him. Ultimately, he’s grown to mean a lot to me and I really enjoy writing for him on this blog. Q4 : what first attracted you to this character ? A4: As mentioned above, Arthur probably has one of the best character progressions I’ve seen in a while imo. Even in the beginning, I went in under the impression that I’d be playing as this outlaw so the violence and gruffness wasn’t too much of a surprise, much as I wasn’t too attached until later chapters in the game because of this. However, as I spent more time playing as him and reading his journal, seeing how he interacts with strangers and people he loves, he has some depth to him and some deep rooted flaws and insecurities that are played very well in the game. He’s probably one of the few character deaths I’ve cried over. lol Q5 : describe the biggest thing you dislike about your muse. A5 : I have to be truthful, Arthur’s an asshole. lol I didn’t like and still don’t like him from Colter into Horseshoe in behavior and personality, much as it’s lessened from my first play of the game because I know what happens to him and how he grows. However, while he’s not blind to himself and how he acts, he doesn’t think for himself really. Even if he hates debt collecting, he does it for the gang and even tells Strauss he does it for pleasure at a point (sarcastic or not, considering they are talking about Thomas, a man trying to raise money for charity while suffering poverty himself on top of having TB), he does whatever Dutch tells him, among many other things. It’s not until later in the game that the theme of grasping redemption comes into play, and he starts to act and think for himself a little more once things start to spiral. As much as I love him with all my heart, Arthur’s got some deep flaws that are hard to ignore. Q6 : what do you have in common with your muse ? A6 : HHHhh. I’d say we suffer from similar self-esteem issues, not just in body image but morality of character (much as his are way more complicated than mine jaksfha), we also have a similar sense of humor...Yeah, idk. I’m attached to him as a character and I can relate to him in certain ways, but it’s hard to pinpoint. Q7 : how does your muse feel about you ? A7 : Idk, he’s pixels? Though, for the sake of a fun answer, I genuinely don’t know? We can be fairly similar in mannerisms and thought process (at points), but I have no idea if we’d actually get along if by some universe rip we were able to meet. Q8 : what characters does your muse have interesting interactions with ? A8: I don’t want to get specific, I interact with a lot of interesting characters. Anybody who’s put me out of a comfort zone or forced me to look at Arthur in the different way has definitely stood out. Q9 : what gives you inspiration to write your muse ? A9 : The game itself is a good source, I enjoy putting up lets plays of it in the background sometimes if I’m struggling or just need something that isn’t music. I get more muse putting together blog playlists than playing them, but there’s that, too. Also generally plotting or talking about him can pull some to the forefront. Q10 : how long did this take you to complete ? A10 : An hour or so, I think?

Opposite Talent S/O! (V3 Boys)

I just had another random thought. How would the v3 boys be with a fem s/o that has the opposite talent of them. ( example shuichi with ultimate criminal. Or gonta with a s/o that is a exterminator *poor gonta*) might have to do this myself aswell. Please and thank you.

Thinking of... opposite talents took a while, especially for Kiibo, let me tell you I tried to not sound robophobic I swear... but there’s not a way to make most of these completely opposite so I just did my best ideas I had...

Actually... how do you get the opposite of an Astronaut? Or Antropologist? What I did? Well ehe... I literally gave Kaito a underground (opposite of up up above) S/O while making Korekiyo’s S/O study future trends, considering he studies culture.

(Gives each talent an opposite personality straight in return, oh shucks.)

Kiibo (Ultimate Lucky Student)

Your talent? Easy. You had nothing about you that had been interesting at all, you had gained an letter nothing more... such an average person like you had somehow gained the heart of the most abnormal student in your class somehow... “The Ultimate Robot”.

It was... weird, you both hadn’t any “real” talents to discuss anything over, yet he stood above you because of how he was born, while you only gained an advantage recently because... because of pure luck...

Kiibo was... gentle though, even if you were untalented, he had no restounsing features besides the ones built into him, so it was almost impossible to feel beneath him, it helped that Kiibo was a sweetheart who was new to romance just like you...

You made a perfect couple despite that one difference between the two of you, talking about whatever came to mind, no need to worry about who you were or what you currently are...

Kiibo especially enjoyed not feeling rushed with your relationship, despite Kaede’s optimism, Shuichi’s empathy towards him, Miu’s close bond with him with sharing such a closeness to him talent-wise...

As the Ultimate Miner you dig deep underground, all there is to it you really don’t care about your talent. It’s tiresome as it is but somehow the “Ultimate Astronaut” thought it be a good idea to boast to you about his talent to you, “both of you were explorerers of different frontiers!”

Yeah right. He got too close, it was stupid. You somehow fell for an idiot who say’d he travel new brand new heights, including you.

He doesn’t know anything about being a miner but it’s not like you ever get to gaze at the stars often yourself, so he usually tells you about how “amazing” it is, thousands of glittering speckles up in the sky that one day he’ll be able to cup thousands of those stars in his fuckin’ fist.

You used to think it was stupid, yet looking at the passion in his eyes, brighter- more beautiful than striking gold...

Rantaro Amami (Ultimate NEET)

As the Ultimate NEET you’ve... gained your talent from Hope’s Peak really wanting to complete it’s set of Ultimate’s, you hated it too considering your parental figure made you go but you never hated anything more than a blasted “Ultimate” who didn’t remember his own talent who insisted you become his buddy and open up.

As if, until he actually, made you open up, fuck- why did he have to be so suave and cool- wahhh- as Tsumugi would say- damned normie step on a landmind and die!!

He needed a gentle push in the right direction! Despite how he told you how his attire was quite “fine” you told him that couldn’t be the case, darling- weird mysterious vibes are sooo last month!

Appearance

Whisper is a slight girl of average height with fair skin and flat chest which is sometimes a target of mockery. She has dreamy, faraway hazel eyes and a winsome, mysterious smile; the combination of these traits lends her a slightly otherworldly, uncanny appearance. Apart from her face, her most prominent feature is her fair hair tied into long dreadlocks.

Whisper's style of clothing is as eccentric as her hairstyle and personality. She usually dresses in loose-fitting clothes of bright colors and floral patterns including long skirts, sundresses and airy blouses. She feels the best walking barefoot.

Whisper also wears excessive, flashy jewelry and plentiful of talismans, magical amulets and lucky charms. She has also several tattoos, the most prominent being a large dreamcatcher on her upper back. Due to her eccentric appearance and style of dressing, she's nicknamed "the hippie girl" by her friends and she doesn't mind it

Personality

Whisper is a difficult person to understand. Even though she's generally kind, caring and positive person, it takes a careful, delicate approach to reach into her comfort zone and gain her trust. She is whimsical, even erratic, and nobody knows what's going on in her mind at the moment. That makes her difficult to lead and control, even though her spontaneous and impulsive behavior can offer a solution to many challenging situations.

She is generally an extroverted person who enjoys company, but like most aspects of her personality, her temperament is a subject of frequent changes. She enjoys time alone, spent by relaxing, meditation or long walks. She is the happiest when she's at peace with herself and the world and values all kinds of harmony.

She abstains from alcohol, but rather frequently smokes marijuana which helps her unwind and focus. She claims it also enhances her ability of astral traveling. She is open to experimentation of all kinds, but she's also rational enough to not let it go too far.

Skills, talents and weaknesses

While Sienna is the team's most valuable member when it comes to logical thinking and far-sighted decisions, Whisper is appreciated for her intuition and creative approach to problems. She always follows the voice of her feelings rather than cold logic which can end up with various results.

Whisper is artistically gifted - she is able to paint, compose poems and play several musical instruments, which takes a toll on her practical abilities such as the knowledge of technology or the ability to do manual work. Since she is usually lost in her thoughts, she's also forgetful and scatterbrained.

Another of Whisper's strengths is her empathy and ability to understand people. She can see the person's true nature and intentions just by spending a few minutes with them. She's extremely sensitive to body language and can perceive the person's aura to some degree, making her an efficient lie detector.

Whisper's greatest weakness is the lack of physical strength. She's not proficient in any kind of martial art and neither can she handle a firearm or a weapon. This is partially caused by her strictly pacifistic nature and also by her slight, delicate frame not suited for physical combat. Moreover, in stressful situations, she often tends to panic and rushes into stupid decisions. That's why she usually counts on her battle-skilled teammates when it's going tough.

Special powers

Whisper's special power is astral traveling, an ability to detach her soul from her body and travel through the astral realm. This allows her to travel unseen to dangerous or restricted areas without the risk of getting hurt. During the detach, the body and soul are connected by a silver astral rope called a "Lifeline" by the travelers.

Her ability requires years of training in the form of meditation and relaxation techniques and has several levels of mastery:

Out of Body - the traveler can detach their soul from their body and roam the astral realm;

Out of Space - the traveler's soul isn't affected by space, allowing them to immediately transfer the soul to any place in the world;

Out of Time - while traveling, the traveler's soul is unaffected by time, able to change the subjective perception of it.

The ability also has several drawbacks. The most obvious one is that Whisper's physical body is unconscious when her astral body is detached. That requires her to either perform the detach on a safe, isolated place or to have someone to look after the senseless body and protect it from harm. Also, to perform the detach, Whisper has to remain relaxed and focused for a while, making it hard to detach in the middle of the fray. Another danger are the immaterial astral beings known as "Hunters" which possess a potential threat to the detached soul.

Her abilities allow Whisper to serve as an efficient spy since physical boundaries don't affect the detached soul. Also, while on the Out of Space level, she can immediately contact any other person able to tap into the astral realm anywhere in the world.

Reflections

February-March 2020

After being given our module brief I wasn’t quite sure where to begin, my first instinct is to make, create, explore and experiment with materials to discover my 3D outcomes and context often corresponds to the work retrospectively, however I had to change this way of thinking, and bring myself out of this comfort zone. I started asking myself questions about artwork in general. What am I interested in? What do I want to know more about?

One of the best galleries we visited in Lisbon has stuck in my mind. For days of looking in galleries I was repeatedly thinking how within a gallery space it’s sometimes difficult for me to connect to intangible art in this sort of setting, there is a separation between you and the artwork. Installations are different, due to the sensory nature of some installations, I feel like it’s sometimes easier to connect to this sort of art. I often find interactive and playful art more engaging as it removes this distance between the viewer and the artwork and is easier to connect with due to it often having a multi sensory appeal. One of the best galleries we visited in Lisbon (in my opinion) was Modo De Uso. You are handed a playful ‘handbook’ guide to each artwork where Claire de Santa Coloma has written a suggestion guide to how to approach and respond to the artwork with her drawings used as reference “If you made it this far, thank you. The artist is now responsible for your level of satisfaction”. Rather than being a passive onlooker the artist encourages you to connect to the artwork discovering it’s sensory appeal. As humans we like to look at art because it simultaneously affects our senses, our thoughts, and our emotions and ___’s encouragement to embrace the sensory-tactile element of his artwork certainly heightened the overall experience for me and my friends. I’m also intrigued by the ability of this installation to be able to transmit the same message to diverse groups of people through the tangibility of the work.

To better understand my personal position my research has begun by asking general straightforward questions like :

Is art about beauty? - Connection to the natural world/ connection of a visual stimulus with an inner emotional state - argued that this comes from evolution- and the attraction .

Appreciation also comes from knowledge and experience that is common between the artist and the audience. Art capitalizes on specific stored memories and associations in the brain of the observer. Further still, the ability to make and use tools, a skill that began in apes and exploded in hominids, requires a great deal of visual and tactile memory.

Some scientists have suggested that art helps us to bond as groups; and that the brain is programmed to notice and enjoy simple patterns PATTERN RECOGNITION. The human brain is constantly looking for familiar patterns, to impose meaning on a complex world.

Where does this leave contemporary or abstract art? Ability to use visual representations to induce memory recall or visual understanding.

Art invites us to contemplate outside the box, and explore and better understand ideas we weren’t conscious of before? (Salvador Dali) to i.e through depicting bizarre worlds, subconscious states/ unreal and illusory depictions.

The value of art !? "Traditional art is about what is in the world; more modern works are about the very process of representation," he writes. I also fully expect that artistic talent would have eventually been transferred from our culture to our genes. After all, during a million or two years of natural selection, artistic ability was likely to confer some advantage on those that had it. This advantage could have come in the form of increased social standing as a leader in the hunt, a prolific teacher of skills, and so on.

think of a project and an idea for the theory and context as opposed to a 3D outcome, my initial urges are to create, make and explore materials and see what comes of this, instead I began by asking myself some questions about the artworks that interest me, specifically the type of artwork. Firstly I wanted to create a series of videos using this little plastic toy children’s pottery wheel to throw functional pots in unusual places, like the underground or on the top of a mountain. I liked the idea of a playful performance piece then began thinking about participatory artwork and how members of the public could take part in this piece. I also liked the idea of filming in the wilderness, responding to ‘site and place’ by throwing vessels using clay collected from a specific place, filming this vessel being created in this specific place, drawing attention to this direct connectivity between the land and the artwork and the maker. (in a dream land I also imagined it being wood fired at this location and eating food from this vessel that was gathered/found/ foraged. To go full cycle.

How to Accept Your Partner’s Flaws

Once the heady chemicals of new love — which transform one’s sweetheart into the very picture of human perfection — wear off, each partner discovers that no matter how compatible they are, there is a least one thing, and sometimes several, that each dislikes in the other. Each possesses some habit, behavior, or personality quirk that annoys, infuriates, and/or disappoints the other person. As the relationship goes on, the pair may remain very much in love, but their respective idiosyncrasies can become a source of perennial conflict. Each partner wants the other to change X behavior, and each partner, even if they try to make the requested change, frequently fails at doing so. And the conflict continues. Such failures can often cause one partner to feel great disappointment, and even contempt for the other. “If she really loved me,” he thinks, “she would change.” Yet changing a deeply ingrained behavior can be almost impossible; the disappointed party should ask how successfully he himself has been at changing one of his deeply set personality traits. Probably not very. Indeed, research shows that nearly 70% of marital conflicts are perpetual and unresolvable — they last a couple’s whole life through. The only alternative to the typically fruitless hope of getting one’s partner to change, is to simply accept that they’re never going to. To accept their idiosyncrasies as a part of their, and your, life. Yet this can seem like its own quixotic quest; someone can desire to accept their significant other’s flaws, and yet truly struggle to move this sense of acceptance from their head to their heart. Let me suggest a paradigm that I think is most helpful in making this mindset shift. Through it, you can come to not only accept your partner’s “flaws,” but even appreciate them. We typically think of the things we love about our partner, and the things we dislike, as being sorted into two very separate categories. The reality, however, is that they’re often inextricably linked. They’re two sides of the same pole of energy — one a “light” side, the other a “shadow” side. A wife loves that her husband is a man’s man, who’s rugged and stoic and makes her feel safe, but she dislikes that he isn’t more empathetic and emotionally expressive. The energy that fuels his very masculine side, however, is the same that inhibits his tenderness. A husband loves that his wife is artistic and creative, but he dislikes how flaky she is about keeping plans. The energy that gives her that more esoteric side, however, is the same one that makes her mind a little more spontaneous and scattered. The same energy that creates the side of someone that you love, is frequently also responsible for the side that drives you crazy. You thus shouldn’t pine for an impossible scenario where you can retain that which you adore, and excise the part you do not; you can’t pick up one end of the stick, without picking up the other! Once you recognize that someone’s flaws are just a different manifestation of the same energy in them that you love, these faults become easier to accept. For example, Kate really struggles with being on time — she’s perennially late for most everything. She likes the rush of cutting it close — of trying to beat the clock. I’m someone who likes to be punctual, however, so this tendency of hers can bug me — especially when it comes to catching a flight! She wants to get to the airport without a minute to spare, while I’m 100% what we affectionately call “Nervous Travel Dad.” Yet, I don’t let Kate’s lack of punctuality bother me too much, because I recognize that it’s driven by the same excitement-seeking aspect of her personality that adds a great dash of fun and adventure to our lives, and which I love. I recognize they’re just two sides of the same coin, and I treasure that coin. On the other hand, my struggle with depression and having a melancholy, mercurial disposition can be difficult on Kate. It would be easier on our relationship if I was consistently in a good mood every day. But, Kate recognizes that without this serious streak in my personality, I wouldn’t be the person she loves. She sees my melancholic and pessimistic disposition as just the other end of a pole that also makes me more conscientious and empathetic, and less flighty and shallow. And she thinks it’s ultimately been good for AoM, setting a steady tone and keeping it from falling into the traps of effervescent, hype-driven promises, rah-rah platitudes, and goofy Instagram influencer posturing that so readily plague many “lifestyle brands.” This isn’t to say that you must accept a person’s flaws 100%. Sometimes they’re not tied to anything really positive, or the negative effect a certain energy can have on the relationship can outweigh its positive impact. While it’s generally unreasonable to expect anyone to fundamentally change their essential personality traits — a task which is nearly impossible to do — you can reasonably expect your partner to mitigate their downsides a bit. To rub off their sharper edges. So for example, Kate really tries to be on time (or at least only a tiny bit late) for something that’s important to me/us. And I do my best to keep a leash on the black dog of my depression. Ultimately, once you realize that the parts of a person you dislike simply come along with the parts you adore, and that you wouldn’t cut out the energy that drives the latter in order to resolve the former, it’s much easier to accept and even celebrate one’s romantic partner (and friends for that matter) for who they are. When you pick up one end of the stick, you pick up the other, and if it’s a good one, you hold onto it and don’t let it go. As the son of a Lieutenant Colonel and a retired professional ballerina, with an almost 15 year age gap, Jae’s childhood was an interesting one. He was constantly moving from one place to another which made it hard to make friends and setting down roots. Added with his natural restlessness, Jae would act out and became a disruptive class clown type; to gained positive rapport with his classmates and the kids around the bases. His mother was over how much trouble and embarrassment her son caused that she came up with an idea. With some coaxing and promises of extra dessert, she convinced Jae to participate in her dance classes that she held at clients home. Immediately, the troublesome young boy got hooked. With help from his mother’s strict instruction, young Jae became devoted to learning classical ballet and tap dancing. His father ,at first, was reluctant by this new development but warmed up to the idea as he saw improvement of Jae’s behavior. ✧ Dancing was the perfect outlet for Jae to express himself while using to burn up his energy. Over time he reach out to learn other types of dancing on his own, loving how each one have its own personality and history. He toned down his past mischievous ways for a more goofy sense of humor but the urge for a good prank still comes up deep inside of him.

Despite beginning reservations, Jae’s father was one of his biggest fans. Even going out of his way to see rehearsals if he knew he would miss a showcase. Unfortunately due to his old age, he died from cardiac arrest little over a year ago. In honor of him, Jae would wear his father’s dog tags, so he can all be with him, especially during performances (Either tucked under his shirt or in his pocket).

Jae is studying at San Myshuno University of Arts for a Choreography degree. After learning so many dances, Jae has already start choreographing his own sets but wanting to learn more to raise them to an unimaginable level. While at Uni, his roommates have gotten him into adding a vocal element to his dance sets: Rapping. His rhythms are still on the raw side but still delivers them with a level of wit and confidence that fits him.

Touhou Fandom To-Avoid: c0lb0h, a.k.a. Joseph

a little over two years ago, I made this account to warn others of an individual named Joseph, better known as c0lb0h or Kirboh. at the time this callout was made about him, he among other things stalked LGBTA+ artists within the Touhou fandom in hopes of receiving yuri art of Touhou characters, and has acted out like a child upon being reasonably told to keep his distance by said perturbed artists.

after some guilt-tripping on his blog about how mean those Evil Social Justice Warriors were to him, including a death threat towards yours truly for daring to catalog receipts of his behavior, he seemed to simmer down for the time being, and we’d assumed it’d be the last of him. unfortunately, according to a friend from the grapevine, this wasn’t the case.

what began as a textbook case of stalking and harassment for the sake of Touhou porn turned into a full-on campaign to shame at least one of his prior victims in particular, as well as a none-too-surprising demonstration of how shameless /jp/ gets about their thirst for yuri pics. this post contains depictions of transphobia and sapphobia in particular, overall bigotry and shitty behavior from Very Angry Male Touhou Fans that want things strictly their way.

and in the midst of it all, the dude responsible still sees it fit to play his dime-a-dozen woe-is-me card, wonder how on this green earth he could possibly be disliked as much as he is.

This is really not a big deal, but it got me going on one of my favorite topics so I'm going to post it.

This is a reply on a one-paragraph review I wrote of THE PERFECTION on my other blog. This review wasn't reblogged, so the person must have found it through the tags. You can probably guess that I found this movie really pretentious and condescending (and also ripped off of some other better movies). So, this person decides to give me a piece of their mind.

This isn't the first time this has happened me, of course, although it's often when I least expect it. I got a really, really angry reply from somebody about how I didn't understand THE ROOM *or* THE DISASTER ARTIST. Once somebody told me I was "poisoning people's minds" by saying the reasons why I hated MOTHER!. (I thought everybody hated MOTHER! ?) Then one time on this blog, I posted about some movie I don't even remember anymore, but I was very specific about what I thought didn't work about it, and I suddenly had a string of anonymous messages about how "me and the wife loved it! It was well-written and exciting, and the acting was great!" I didn't know what the fuck I was supposed to do with that, because this was in response to a really detailed dissection I had just made of how the script broke down, and the movie was uneventful and overlong, and the acting was like a cold reading. I couldn't have even engaged with this guy without copying and pasting the exact thing he was responding to. I was so baffled that I posted the messages with a caption like "This individual has a different opinion from me." It was meant to be sarcastic, but it was also meant to point out to him the total mootness of what he was doing. Naturally, he flew into a rage and yelled at me about how if I post things on the internet, then people have the right to say whatever they want and I have to accept that. He didn't get the irony that he was missing that exact same point.

There are patterns to this behavior of trying to correct someone else's feelings:

- It's always strangers.

- It's always a response to me disliking something. (I know people do attack others for *liking* things all the time, that just seems to be less provocative in my case for some reason)

- It's never a reasoned response, ie I give really specific reasons why something didn't work for me, and the response is just, IT WAS GOOD!!😠

- Sometimes (but not always), the person specifically objects to the very fact that I reasoned out my analysis. First, they don't like my opinion, and then they don't like the fact that I have reasons for my opinion, which they think is an artificial and unnatural manipulation of the facts. They boil it down to something like, "The movie is good because it's good," meaning "It's good because I like it," which points to the essential problem of opinions being mistaken for objective reality.

I realize that in talking (again and again) about this behavior, I'm revealing just as much about myself as I am about the derangements of the internet. I mean, this is a really ordinary social media experience, and I don't have to care about it if I don't want to. I think this is pretty autistic of me, by which I mean that things Have to Make Sense to me or else I lose my mind. This applies especially to people, and the idea of having to express or even enforce an opinion ABOUT someone else's opinion--especially an inconsequential stranger like me--really does not compute for me at all. First of all, it is seldom possible to change someone else's emotional responses, especially when the only reason is FUCK YOU. Secondly, what's the risk of someone having a different feeling from you? Hating your favorite movie or favorite actor for their own personal reasons? Why is it important to scrounge around the internet making sure that never happens? This isn't even politics, where mounting public emotion can affect the safety of some groups of people. Anyway, it should be easy enough for me to just say, "Well, people are reactionary and kind of dumb a lot," but instead I obsess over finding logic where there probably isn't any.

That's the ironic thing about this: She wants to attack my opinion, and I want to attack her attack of my opinion. I would never do this, because I know intellectually that there's absolutely no point, but I fantasize about asking her:

"Why did you tell me this? When you sent me your reply, did you imagine different possible outcomes, or just one? What did you think the odds were, that there would be an outcome you prefer? Why was it important to you that I, a stranger, know how you feel about a movie I did not enjoy? Is it that you want this stranger to change her opinion to match yours? Let's complete this sentence: 'I have to tell this stranger that I have different feelings from her, because of X.' What's the X?"

(actually I should probably literally copy and paste this back to every such reply I ever get from now on, and collect my survey results, but I usually just block people)

I have an elaborate fantasy life that revolves around conducting conclusive investigations into what the fuck people's problems are. Actually, I'm writing two different stories right now about varyingly autistic characters who basically act out all my most autistic fantasies. Most of it consists of them just being eccentrically frank about the apparent internal logic of other people's behavior and how it's not really functional. (In one of them, that behavior is actually a utility that helps unravel a mystery, and in the other it's just really combative and I worry that I'm not personally "autistic enough" to have the right to fictionalize autism as a serious noticable challenge) I love the idea of sticking like a TV news microphone in somebody's face and interrogating them about why they stopped dead in the middle of a public staircase to start doing shit on their phones, or why they sat right in the middle of a row of subway seats instead of on the end where people aren't necessarily forced to sit next to them, and why they act like the movie opinions of distant strangers are a deliberate attempt to break their hearts. I might actually do this, but, as you can tell, I am so thin-skinned that every subsequent answer I get might send me spiraling into mania. Actually, I can't even remember how I wanted to conclude this post, because while I was in the middle of it, somebody ELSE said something to me on Facebook that I didn't understand and now I'm mad about it, as if that isn't the main thing that ever happens to anyone on Facebook. I guess I'm just going to stop writing this now, find something else to worry about, and suddenly explosively remember what point I was trying to make in the middle of the night later on. I really need to care about less stuff!
