All eyes on foreign hostages while the dual citizens in Gaza are ignored and trapped.
Blinken met with Netanyahu in the first week and enquired about extracting Palestinian-Americans, also asked for water to be turned back on.
Blinken left, the 600 or so American-Palestinians had a vague command to go to Rafah, they were not extracted, the water wasn't turned back on.
Then the second week, Biden shows up, all about Hamas and the hostages. Not a word about his citizens trapped in the strip, and still nothing. Entirely hostage and Hamas focused, to the point he ignored the bomb threat on Al-Quds Hospital
Dual citizens or not, it seems like no one with power actually gives a shit about the Palestinians in any way

Books Read April 2024
White Cat, Black Dog by Kelly Link
I've been told to read Link for years, and, well she lived up to the hype. These are some gorgeous re-interpretations of classic fairy tales and folklore which is exactly what I love. I would say I only loved about half the stories and found the rest meh but Link is clearly a gifted writer and this was an easy read.
Intimacies by Katie Kitamura
This felt weirdly like a really good companion novel to Study in Obedience. Both feature an unnamed narrator living in Europe which is not their homeland. Yet while SiO examines the eeriness of the countryside Intimacies is about the eeriness of the city. Loved this one better than SiO though. Will definitely be retuning to Kitamura though I admit that I read this early in the month and despite enjoying it it has faded a LOT. I guess that's what happens with plotless novels.
Dragonwyck by Anya Seton
Historical romance fiction. IDK this was okay but never got as weird as I wanted it to. A solid read though.
The Great State of West Florida by Kent Wascom
Made a bit of a mistake in picking this up as an ARC based on the cover only to later realize it was the last in a 4 book series. Still an enjoyable read that stands on its own. A weird modern western about a family trying to establish West Florida as an independent state and an alternate white supremacy movement trying to do the same. It's weird but interesting.
The Adults by Alison Espach
Went into this blind after hearing this raved by several people and just absolutely loved it. It's hard to describe but it's basically about a snarky, wealthy white 14 year old and how her life is jutted off course by decades. Don't want to share more than that but I love Espach's voice and will be reading more of her in the future.
The Yiddish Policemen's Union by Michael Chabon
A wonderful, alternate history crime novel. The ending didn't stick for me but this is still a full five stars. Gorgeous writing, a lived in world. I will be returning to this one.
Dual Citizens by Alix Ohlin
I love books about sisterhood but I found this entire book underdeveloped and kind of boring. Colour me baffled by another Giller choice.

SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT HAMAS. YOURE OUT OF YOUR GODDAMN FUCKING MIND IF YOU THINK ANYTHING HAMAS HAS EVER DONE EVEN COMES CLOSE TO THE ATROCITIES THE STATE OF ISRAEL HAS COMMITTED AGAINST PALESTINIANS AND THE REST OF THE MIDDLE EAST FOR 75 YEARS. FUCK YOU.

[Being Japanese], documentary in 2 parts by Greg Lam from Life where I am from, tackling the subject of identity in Japanese so called “homogeneous” society (spoiler: it’s not as homogeneous as far right would like to believe). In Greg’s own words:
What makes a Japanese person Japanese? Is it the blood that runs through their veins? A parent they were born to? The country they grew up in? Is it how they look? How they act? How they speak? Their citizenship? A documentary exploring what it means to be Japanese.
Greg, father of 2 hâfu kids himself, went around interviewing several people about what they think about their identities and relation with Japan. Profils includes Ainu, “Okinawan”/Ryukyuan, but also Korean-descendants, nikkei/Japanese descendants, hâfu/biracial Japanese or kikokushijo/returnees. Second part of the documentary also covers refugees and naturalised/dual citizens (including a disabled person).
I can’t recommend you enough to watch this documentary! Be aware that some parts are difficult as they cover traumatic events/issues (racism, assault, etc) encountered by the interviewees. However, Greg Lam never falls prone to tearjerking, and many passages are amazingly covered!

People from all across the world being able to freely travel to Israel, join the IDF, and participate in a genocide with no repercussions is such a difficult concept for me to wrap my mind around

Okay but I'm feeling deprived of certain subs now that I'm Tumblr exclusive. Can anyone give me blogs or tags to follow that are like r/simpleliving (that are NOT tradwives, something i appreciated about that sub was that it didn't seem like a right wing cestpit), r/zerowaste (followed the tag already), r/anticonsumption, and r/shoppingaddiction

from now on everyone who boops me is a citizen of claudrien nation. unfortunately as a small country our security division is underfunded so each boops counts as an individual citizen. i hope to grow the nation to 2 billion by the end of the night.
