So so good 10/10 once again. I want to make an analysis so badly but school has made me exhausted so I’m not sure I can get around to doing it. One thing that I love so much was the sound design & voice acting, it elevated an already incredible couple of chapters to something thoroughly enjoyable to watch. I’ve read the manga, I know what happens but oh my god I felt *stressed* with everything that transpired, it felt a lot more brutal hearing the sound effects and incredible voice acting (I listen to jp, I wonder what the dub sounded like).
Anyway. It was very very good. I felt goosebumps multiple times and was nearly moved to tears at a couple of points too. Also this will sound dumb. But. I really really love Falin’s chimera form. Now that it was animated, it feels even more like a dinosaur than I had imagined, especially the tail whip (diplodocuses can easily break basically any theropod’s rip cage with their tails, do not underestimate the power of smacking something with a tail).
I 100% get Laios’ feelings towards it, as horrible as the situation is. It’s really really cool. I kinda wish I could look like it…

I've always loved the concept of being stuffed full by a dragon. Not with eggs, perish the thought, but with its gold.
You become its hoard.
Being spread wider and heavier with coin and jewels and so much more. Perhaps a few Faberge eggs, if your dragon has a sense of humor. Your skin, or maybe scales, developing a golden sheen, your eyes like emeralds. Sighing contently, and hearing a few loose coins jingle as they fall down some stone stairs, somewhere deep in the lair.

i've been re-reading the wof books and... as much as i like humans and dragons finally connecting i know that's an unpopular opinion but interspecies communication has always been fascinating to me- i am honestly not as fond of arc 3 as i am with the other two arcs. mainly because of the removal of animus magic.
removing animus magic makes the third arc feel so disconnected from the other two. animus dragons played big parts in the first two arcs- so much so that if they were removed from the first two arcs at this stage all ten books would have to be re-written in some parts.
animus dragons made the series much more interesting, in all honesty. without the magic or mind-reading or any other powers the series would just... be human politics in dragon form. which is the exact opposite of what the majority of readers seem to want. we want to read fantasy- we want to escape from the world with cool dragons and cool powers! not read about dragon politics that seem recycled from our own world
honestly i'm disappointed with where the series has gone. it's been warriors-ified, and is now too convoluted, and lacks less charm than the first books. don't get me wrong, i adore the series and the characters. but i feel like this is one of the sad instances where the fandom has to give the characters and world personality and meaning.
tl;dr, the removal of animus magic was a silly (derogatory) decision and it makes me sad

You all couldn't leave well enough alone, could you? I gave you a maneless aberration, and what did you all choose to say about it?
YOU GUYS COULD HAVE CHOSEN ANY OTHER WORD! ‘Bald’ and ‘Shaved’ were right there, but you all decided on ‘PEELED’!
Oh yeah? Well... you know what? YOU KNOW WHAT?
MANELESS MALE POSE
what do you all have to say about that!?

It's been many, many years since I read the Narnia books, but lately I've been remembering the scene from Voyage of the Dawn Treader, where Eustace finds a cave full of gold, goes bananas rolling in it, falls asleep, and wakes up having transformed into a dragon.
And yes, the sequence is supposed to be a cautionary tale about greed and all that... but really, when it comes down to it, what a clean and simple way to become a dragon. I personally would have found it just as happy an ending for Eustace's character if he stayed a dragon- with how much of a little turd he'd been leading up to that scene, he's clearly not cut out for humanity.
That's the dream right there, becoming a dragon, even in such an easy way.
